Yep, both very fair. Time defeated me on the polish front I'm afraid!
SwfCabin seems to struggle sometimes, maybe too many connections. If you try again it should work, it's definitely still there.
I got an Entry Point Not Found exception in msvcrt.dll launching this (Windows XP), but not sure if it's just that the dll on this PC is a bit borked.
Aww, thanks kylerhoades, glad you had some fun with it!
I definitely hear the UI suggestions, if I return to it I think ripping out the input stuff and making it mouse-driven and more clear would definitely be the way I'd go.
Also didn't realise it was quite that hard, didn't really have time to balance it. And I obviously didn't want it to be easy!
Interesting idea (and very melodramatic title!) - I found I got stuck quite quickly and never really got a handle on what "pull" was going to do at any given time.
Most people are telling me it's too hard so that's good to hear :)
Was indeed quite difficult - but a really tight little game, good work!
It did feel like each level was either easy or impossible. But nice idea!
I found this extremely difficult but I absolutely love the retro sci-fi thing, the wires are a lovely touch.
Short and simple but pretty fun while it lasted - despite the basic graphics managed to have some character to it.
Looks and sounds very nice! Bit more elaboration on gameplay would be good. I wasn't sure about having the character towards the right of the screen when the danger appears from that edge.
Fantastic little game. Looks gorgeous, controls as well as I'd expect a ball to control, nice little bit of level design, cute ending. Great job!
Nice idea. Not sure the thinking behind using WASD and the number keys - got a little bit cramped up there! But it's a nice simple concept executed quite well.
Liked the music. Otherwise there's not all that much to it, I guess!
This is the best game featuring Burnley I have ever played! xD Liked it, but yes I turned the music off pretty quickly, sorry :) Congrats on a good effort!
Hmm, well I crashed in the inn trying to get a rest. No rest in Hell I suppose!
Once I worked out I could move around it became more playable xD Could use work on control and general polish.
Quite rough and buggy, but there's the core of a fun game in there. Theme is a bit of an afterthought but I very much liked the chat log/instruction screen!
Nice mechanic, does make for a tense take on what would otherwise be a predictable game. Not sure it really says "escape" to me.
Yeah I just got the unclose-able black window (Windows XP).
The functional audio supports the simple gameplay effectively but it's not pleasant. Game looks pretty neat.
Well, this is a little bit beautiful, isn't it! Great visual and audio work. However I was totally stumped on that first puzzle until I chanced the solution, wasn't really obvious. But yeah, great entry!
You're a madman! Good use of theme... I guess...?
Well that was all a bit surreal. Some nice work on the graphics, although the flickering was a bit unsightly and the dark areas didn't really scream "obstacle" until I was looking for it.
Great use of the theme! The games themselves were very basic but not bad (although took me a minute to figure out what I was doing in 4).
I quite liked this! A bit thin on gameplay but it was surprisingly pleasing to wander around the island looking for supplies :)
Mostly agree with the other comments - could do with more gameplay going on.
I get a crash about 3 seconds in.
Yeha, cute. Not a great deal to it but it was nice with appealing presentation.
Cursing myself for not adding some sort of level checkpointing now, this is clearly a bit of an oversight. Thanks for the comments!
Nice work. Liked the audio and it definitely carried the theme. Shame there wasn't a little more gameplay! :)
That is one philosophical kitten! Climbing those blocks does begin to feel like work after the first 5 times or so. Liked the music and 2-colour visuals.
Nice :) The graphics are cute and I quite like your use of the theme. Gets hard to dodge all the bullets!
Nice :) I also noticed the second play-through didn't allow me to vaporize. But absolutely, smashing stuff is cool. And it looks great - could just do with some satisfying sounds.
Couldn't open it either
68MB! But yeah pretty cool, though it soon got pretty tricky avoiding those rocks. Liked the music, of course!
Maddeningly clever. Also, maddening. Great job :)
Exactly what the others said on the Windows version: "buffer.h:129 GL_INVALID_OPERATION - glVertexAttribPointer"
Pretty good! The colour change caught me out on many occasions (made more tricky by having my finger over the information), but it was fun. And fair play for going for an Android game!
Yeah that was quite fun. I lost track of where I was a bunch of times and after the initial ramp-up of enemies it just sorta carried on until things slowed down a lot then I died. Also wasn't entirely sure what was going on with shooting recharge. But yeah, had fun!
Neat little game - looks good, sounds good. Unfortunately I don't have the patience/reflexes to see this one through, it's very difficult.
Cool, the shrinking was a nice mechanic and there's some good level design to go along with it. Not the prettiest but enjoyable - good work!
AWESOME. Space Harrier-esque fun times. Unfortunately incredibly difficult to play on keyboard (don't have a gamepad to hand). Also don't think there was a graceful way to quit the game. But great job - looks/sounds great!
Great! Looks great, clever, funny. Real shame there's no mood-setting music, and I did need the walkthrough a few times (but then again I'm a bit stupid at these kind of games).
Certainly frantic, controls were quite tricky. But a fun little game, did quite like that it was itself tiny.
Great job man, that was a fun game!
How... meta.
Nice graphics, good effort. Gameplay was very simplistic - it improved later on as you added more elements but that ramp-up should have happened a lot faster I feel.
Wow, pretty trippy. If it was meant to incite some sort of disorientation it worked! Nice atmosphere.
Fun :) Nice mechanic balance of having to keep the world stable while shooting at the ships.
Pretty good! Good work on getting that much level design done, was a good length. And music always helps.
Neat idea! Damn those helicopters. Found the bottle bit very difficult unfortunately. Nice art.
It ran fine for me and looks good, but man I had no idea what to do and failed to make any sort of progress. But good effort, keep at it :)
Cool game! Liked the quivering environment, looked and sounded great. I did struggle to get my head around the upgrades and got lost going back on myself a bit.
Took me a good while to work out what was going on with the movement: the dark walls are almost invisible on my screen. After that I struggled around a bit, got some parts off greys but it was all a bit of a struggle I'm afraid. With some touching up it could be pretty cool!
Nice - short and simple but really liked the clean art style.
Heh - nice idea but I'm not sure how to do good: each time the numbers eventually careered off into oblivion as did my hurricane into the abyss!
Quite fun going round hitting things and evolving, but the game did suffer visually with slowdown when there were large numbers of enemies, and screen scrolling. Bit rough looking. But nice music, and a good job on your first time for sure!
Interesting use of the theme! It was oddly satisfying splatting whole groups of eyeball things.
Enjoyed the general concept though I don't see much connection to the theme. I ran out of time manoeuvring to fit the parts onto my junk (hur hur), almost felt the time limit was a bit harsh. But good work!
Amusing and certainly bizarre little text adventure! A large suspension of disbelief required to get into this cheesey world. Cool :)
Finally finished by a Moose Warrior thing! Really like the evolving difficulty, though for me the curve is indeed a bit too slow. Had a nice look and atmosphere to it. Fun game!
Nice! Felt a bit repetitive, especially with the walk speed being slow, but much dodging did help. Enjoyed the boss fight, your AI was pretty good with the shooting and rushing. Audio ambience was nice.
Oh nice idea... well once I got past the idea of robots breeding... hehe. Interface is really nice just lacking a bit of sound. Progress in improving the bots was very slow but overall nice effort!
Ha, well that got out of control quickly! Nice simple idea :)
Random, but the burst mutation is twice as rare as the other two. Yeah I should have probably given the player a bit more to play with sooner I think!
Slippery movement was a bit frustrating, wasn't really obvious when I was getting hurt and how I was to be punished. But looks quite good and quirky :)
Some great work on audio and humour here - love the Indian cop-in-space theme! Unfortunately the gameplay was rather repetitive and unsatisfying to control, although the enemy immunities were a good idea. Oh and the soundtrack Rick Roll was quite exquisite :)
Don't know if it's just me but I can't seem to download the exe from Dropbox it just shows a page with the filename and no download option?
Twist ending! Very cute, like the graphics and gradual introduction of mechanics. Found dashing and jumping a bit frustrating at times.
Definitely adorable presentation. I didn't find the game that rewarding as I only managed barely noticeable changes between generations but yeah, totally loving the cute looks.
This is pretty cool! Must admit I missed the shape-shifting altogether at first, and when I tried using it I soon reverted to again hitting people in the face (with the odd heal). Nice chunky 3D graphics. Good job!
Interesting one! I found it nigh-on impossible to keep on top of the rotten mountains but the visual style was very cool. Could have done with some camera rotation maybe.
Fun game, those little enemies move fast! I didn't really master the usage of the different forms. But fun.
Really solid, polished entry for sure; your pixel art is great as ever. The gameplay was solid but the difficulty in timing the bombs and such was pretty frustrating!
Oh wow - as soon as the music started playing I was a kid again, you absolutely nailed the retro nostalgia with the audio. The game itself was simple but pretty difficult with the character feeling heavy. Still enjoyable. Great job!
Pretty fun shmup. The variety of bullets coming in worked well at times although the difficulty spiked around from almost nothing to pretty damn intense. Controls and visuals might benefit from some polish but it's a solid effort.
Very difficult to progress with only one fireball possible at a time, it soon becomes too much. But I liked it up to then, the sprites are nice.
Interesting idea! Was difficult to determine how to deal with people: some accepted crazy loans but some didn't seem to accept anything. But props for doing something different, and I like the shark!
Nice idea for the theme, unfortunately it's just not that fun to play: it doesn't feel like your upgrades are having a very meaningful effect. Maybe finite upgrade choices with a major visible effect would be more satisfying. But good concept!
Just want to say thanks to everyone on here that voted, so pleased with the results! And yes I had many more ideas for this I didn't fit in, relating to his wife, possibly children and more...
Neat idea, though if the village and mine spawn quite close it's very tricky to make progress.
Hmm ok well I managed to run away from goat-riders for a while, certainly had a sense of hopelessness to proceedings.
Nice game! Looks great, fun to play, all important satisfying item pickup noise... I had a few little issues with it but this is a very good effort. Well done guys!
Very interesting concept, great to see some different thinking in an entry. Strategy was difficult to decipher. In fact I'm still not sure. But it looks and sounds great in its neon world of words.
That guy is way efficient at removing clothes... Solid, entertaining entry that looks nice. Gets repetitive eventually but what can you do.
Just a note: the compo would require you to do the music yourself rather than lift it from someone else. So I've basically ignored the music in my appraisal.
Feels like the start of a fun little game here! Just wish it had a little more gameplay fleshed out, but it's promising. And looks great!
Intersting concept, and it looks great! Was definitely tricky wrestling with the two activities. Could do with some feedback, and indeed the timer seemed to run out with no effect.
Great concept! Like the idea of being the unseen villain deploying those minions against the classic platforming hero. I would say the game itself was however quite limited with no great strategy to it. Definite potential here.
Great work! It is just a matter of time till you win but I enjoyed the gradual progression, nice touch seeing your little vehicles appear around the globe.
Also got stuck at the code arranging bit: I think you had a bug where blocks got stuck under eachother so they moved together and became inaccessible (so it seemed). But I liked the idea!
Pretty good, stomping about was kinda fun. Liked the little named minions and their various emotional states. I did just seem to be stomping for the sake of stomping as it went on, some variety or extra purpose may have helped.
Nice! Liked the addition of collecting the coins to the more standard defence game. Found it very difficult though, suddenly lose a few knight guys and I'm screwed. But it feels complete, and I like the colour palette.
Heh, well that was an amusing little adventure. Bit slow with the walking along the same grey space repeatedly but it was all about the quirky narrative here.
This is really well done but the combat is very difficult! Hard to shoot in the direction you want to at times and the enemies harass you relentlessly. But looks and sounds great and I was intrigued by the story, a lot of effort on show.
Hmm, seems I got caught very suddenly, didn't really see it coming. Some nice effort has gone into this with art and the extensive voiced intro, and it felt menacing creeping up on the village and picking out nasty spells.
Nice entry! But I didn't feel villainous, I'm protecting my lunch! Heh. Burning effect was quite nice. Yeah, good job.
Got to give you credit for a very cool concept here! I can't say I got very far or especially enjoyed it but there is a sort of magic to the looking up messages by colour code and such. Great interpretation of the theme :)
Level 27 is a great effort! It gets incredibly treacherous into the 20s. Orange squares will ruin your day.
To clarify on item drops: a weapon is generated and auto-equipped IF it is superior to your current one, otherwise you get the equivalent attack power as health. So they're always good to get.
Thanks for playing!
1 - True, it just gives a bit of flavour; perhaps someone might remember the strength of a given named enemy.
2 - Weapons only equip if they're superior. I know this is unclear, I didn't get to messaging that to the player really. Items are always beneficial.
3 - Yeah that's a bug I never killed, and why the reset function was added.
Cheers!
What a brilliant concept. Haha. Just completely different, so massive respect for that. Innovation all day long right here.
Nice! It felt very tense playing this, charging through the dark hoping I wouldn't fall to my death... It did feel a bit too much like trial-and-error once the paths involved changes of direction in the dark. And I thought the music didn't need to restart every level (I couldn't really get into it!)
Good effort!
Gorgeous little game! Enjoyed the simple but effective shooting part... and then the car happened :P After the forgiving nature of the previous section the jumping car death-trap was a bit of a shock!
I suppose I should not kill things to progress there, certainly added quite a twist... Okay adding an extra innovation point for that.
Well yeah that was all sorts of moody and depressing! Pong and Gobbler were a nightmare to play together O_O
Also like the screen filter effect and the concept. Great job!
I've been had!
It's a basic game but nicely done, I enjoyed the hard difficulty 'cause I'm hardcore like that. Also only found you could move in comments. Bit more polish and variety and you could have something nice!
Terrifying. Maybe I'm a wuss but I could hardly persuade myself to go downstairs, ha. I don't really know where I was meant to be going - there seemed to be a lot of interactive things without purpose... which is fine but I felt like I might be missing something. The atmosphere was fantastic.
Nice idea! I always liked particle physics. I also found it incredibly difficult to make anything other than hydrogen, but I like the minimalistic look of it.
Really like the mechanic and presentation! I played with your balls and it was good. Music is very pleasant.
Great atmosphere, tight mechanics (but took me a little while to figure "jump" as latching onto the climby stuff). Nice coherent piece again. Bit repetitive retreading the early stages so much but that's part of what it is. Great job!
Interesting concept! Wish there was a bit more to it, and audio would help the mood lots, but I like that you're trying something with a message!
Cool little stacking game! I liked the title screen being the first level. Fun!
Wow, this is pretty incredible polish for a weekend's work! I think I didn't get that there were upgrades at first, otherwise an enjoyable little tower defence effort. Great work on the whole presentation of it, very nice.
Looks nice. Neat idea but I found it difficult to avoid my turrets all dying a pretty early death.
Solid little game but pretty unforgiving. Really would appreciate a bit of tolerance on the spikes considering they end you instantly. But nice effort, just a bit too tough for me to really get into.
Firstly: thanks for playing guys! Good points made I think. It is a bit slow to get going as an incentive not to stop running, despite how dangerous that approach is :)
@Jayjay Ha, yes maybe I got a little caught between moody/dark and sci-fi silliness.
@avh4 Yeah cover is not totally safe; there is a bit of your head sticking out still. Probably a bit harsh on the player.
@CustomPhase Teleporting can get you onto a higher/lower platform, escape a place you might be a bit stuck in or even dodge missiles.
Wow, this is really good. Presentation is fantastic. I was desperate for a slightly better weapon as my pea-shooter chipped away at an ever-swelling horde, maybe I just didn't get the right pick-up. Great job on this.
It looks great and nice sounds too, just feel the game is a bit too slight. There's not much challenge and it's all over very quickly. But the presentation is top notch.
Hehe, very fun entry. Loved the cat names, a much appreciated bit of character. Cute cats, pleasant music. Another good job :)
Cool, I am partial to a word game. Finding words in 10 seconds is pretty damn tough! Intense.
Nice clean look to it. Bit more feedback/sound would be nice.
Yay I won! This was a nice little entry, with a good level of difficulty. Especially for a first time! Enjoyed it. Improve the graphics and we're really talking.
Interesting, reminiscent of ChuChu Rocket mechanically. Found it was very sedate to start with then quite sharply the number of enemies became overwhelming. I would have enjoyed a faster pace to the early stages and a smoother transition to the harder stages. Quite basic in appearance but a solid effort :)
I really wanted to like this as I can just about see what it's trying to do but man... I feel like that dog at a computer ("I have no idea what I'm doing").
Coherent aesthetic, good sense of tension but I just found it incredibly difficult to achieve anything meaningful. Nice idea tho.
Very pretty! Was fun running some trees down. Would love to see more game here as there's just not much to it at the moment. A nice starting point, perhaps.
Like the mechanics, looks and sounds good too - the chunky pixels doing a nice job. Don't quite see how the theme fits in unfortunately. But good job.
Very very good. You packed a lot into this and it was well polished, impressive stuff. Some nice level design tho' certain bits got a bit tiresome having to go back through many times due to a small slip-up.
Thanks for playing all! (and I watched your video Jupiter - nice :)
Interesting choice of spinning the ship around for bonus effects - the bonuses actually felt too powerful, I was charging around like a wrecking ball in there. But it feels coherent and well presented. I like that sometimes the sound effects during constant fire sounded like some sort of rhythmic beat music :P
Nice idea! An elegant implementation of the theme. Short, but understandably so. I enjoyed it!
First impression is very good with the nice sprite art but the game is rather difficult to play. Walk speed very slow, going through exits was awkward and the attack range is very small. Certainly stuff to build on though, a few tweaks away from being rather good I think!
Nicely done! It was pretty tough meeting the orders quickly but I found I did get better at it as I progressed.
Love this! I genuinely wondered if that was it when I grabbed the first coin a couple of times before realising the real game led beyond... Jumping was very floaty but I guess I accepted it eventually. Good idea, well executed, really nice little bit of music too.
