Wow. Graphics and sound really work great with this game. The sudden change of scenery and playstayle is a neat idea.
I like the depressing atmoshpere but got stcuk very soon.
That was fun.
Impressive. I played some similar game back in the old dos days ('Nebulus').
I had some trouble with the double jump for soft landing so I got stuck in level 2. Liked the story.
I don't have an XBox controller but with keyboard the game seems to be quite difficult. Especially the cling and jump mechanism requires some planning. Nevertheless a fun game. The soundtrack is great.
Nice old school adventure game. For me the reaction based fighting felt quite difficult so I didn't get that far.
That was ... strange. Annoying music, good ideas.
Seems you are creating to many new image object in some cases, which fills the memory. (Haven't checked the code, just the errors wally posted)
I like the concept of this game. But the level generation should be improved. I got stucked once right after the start.
Good use of ascii. The game itself lacks some additional features. Gets boring quite fast.
Your source is amazingly well structured.
Great idea and soundtrack. but the controls are to fiddly.
Nice game. I like the basic game idea. +1 for spoken manual. Too short.
Short but very good. Took me some time to figure out that I can jump and walk on walls. The jumping was quite tricky eith the tile-based movement. I like the lo-fi black, white and red look of the game.
I'm a little bit confused atm. I played this game shortly after the compo and it was a different experience (easy, few levels, as the first few commenters mentioned). Is this a different post-compo version?
Will hold my rating until a clarification.
That would make a very good postcompo game. Add some nice sprites and check the jump controls. They somehow seemed quite unprecise. But the basic idea is fun even now.
A pity I haven't figured out to start it yet. Have to check the pyopengl lib again.
Have you tried building a windows exe with py2exe or similar?
The basic idea (as far as I got it) looks nice. But there are so many graphical bugs and no goal, it seems.
Btw: Highend on Win7 64 with Radeon 5670 worked fine.
This would be quite tough if the bullet collision were implemented.
Great soundtrack. I like the style of your sprites. But the gameplay gets a little boring quite fast.
At first I thought I would control one of the cars and the controls were totally wrong.
Anyway, like the music but gameplay needs improvent to be more interesting.
It seems to get easier in the later levels.
Figured out the solutin, but it was too buggy. At some point I was just floating around. after jumping below the rope.
The basic idea is very good.
Simple but very likeable. Especially liked graphics style.
The narrow ways in which you can't see anyone make it unnecessary difficult.
Interesting control of the player.
Great atmosphere and soundtrack. The running around was tedious sometimes. I liked the end, so it was worth it.
I really enjoyed this game. Graphic style and sound is great as is level and enemy design. I hope for more levels to come.
Looks great. I was really shocked at my first contact with a poltergeist. The game is very hard. You have to be so cautious to avoid the ghosts.
Quiet difficult to avoid getting beaten. Great idea and concept.
Somehow I am unable to kill one of the guards or to flee.
Great game. But to short. Would like to play more of this.
Great idea. Somehow the controls were a little bit difficult (picking up blocks while just wanting to walk/jump).
Interesting idea. I liked the story and the randomized levels.
The controls were a little slaggy.
Failed the first level. Couldn't figure out what to do. Controls are quite unforgiving and falling into a pit didn't kill me. I had to restart the game.
Very difficult controls and unnerving music. I like the retro look of the game and the basic idea is good, too.
Happy End.
I would have like a more zoomed out view. Aside from that, a great game.
Control precision is good for this type of game. Good soundtrack.
Impressive game. I like the overall look. But what is the raising fuel supposed to mean?
In my first play I got stuck on top of an enemy tank which I couldn't should but was shooting my bottom side.
Nice take on tower defense. I wasn't sure about the winning condition. In the first level the win came fast. In the second level I played for some time and then quit.
Bulett Hell! I really sucked at this. The music is nice, the weapon sound rather annoying.
Yay for random levels.
I got stuck once and couldn'r open the door. The controls are a bit difficult especially if confronted with enemies.
Impressive. Worked very well and is a nice take on the escape theme.
I really suck at this game, which is a pity cause the impression is great.
Great idea, unfortunately quite buggy. I had one guard stuck in an reopened door and one other ignoring closed doors.
The command system seems quite authentic but could be more streamlined to make it more convenient to use for the player.
Nevertheless a lot of potential.
Pressing keys once and in game restart would have been great. But the basic game works okay.
Maybe I'll fix it in the source by myself ;). Yay for pygame!
(+1 Humor for the exe-file's name)
Very solid platformer but the controls felt quite imprecise. I played it till the end so ther was some fun.
Great idea, but quite difficult in higher levels. I like the graphical presentation.
That soundtrack! Great! Everything else: solid platformer. The occtopy part on the moon was tricky.
Great approach. It's a pity that it's becoming sort of a zombie shooter quite soon. Would have made such a good suspense game.
@Kvisle: Escape.py is an old version from saturday of LD (if I remember correctly). Thanks for pointing out. I will add some hint on this page.
Mouse doesn't really work.
Quite buggy, especially the hit collision is really unforgiving.
Funny fact: I made a very similar game for two players in QuickBasic about 15 years ago ;).
Simple, yet a lot fun.
Could need some thrilling soundtrack. The maze generator works great.
Too short. Would like to have played more of it.
Great game! The controls with only 8 directions are working surprisingly well. I really could steer the small ship between swarms of moving enemies without collision.
There is a lot potential to make some bigger game with this postcompo - especially with the focus on flying.
Really mature game. This should get some postcompo improvement love.
Very minimalistic, easy and short. Basic concept works.
I'm impressed. Quite a deep game for being made in 48 hours.
Unfortunately the interface and choice of colors isn't that good (pathfinding also an issue). With improvements in that part, this could made a great game.
+1 for voiceover. Liked this game.
That was fun. Solid gameplay.
Quite repititive. With some variation, decisions that make a bigger difference and sound it would be a far better game.
Solid plattformer. Extremly difficult in the second level. Lacks sound and the graphics should be improved.
That's a neat puzzle.
I know, time constraints, but the drawn scenery could have needed a lot more details to have something for the eye to catch.
That was fun. Missing sound.
Great idea and graphics style, but I couldn't make any recipe.
Great soundtrack and story, but having to restart the level with every dead, inability to skip dialogues and the tricky mid-air control kills a lot of the fun.
I totally lost. Very fun approach but the interface should be much improved.
Wow the music continued after closing the window. Which isn't that bad cause I like the mouth made music, even with coughing.
The starting screens art is... you know. But in the game it's okay. I really like the unusual concept of the hame mechanics.
Neat idea. And it even is 3D, which I didn't notice at first try. I was wondering about the strange parallax scrolling of the rectangles ;).
With some fitting music and sound this would be very thrilling.
Great sound and graphics but tricky and imprecise controls. I couldn't even get past the first platform jumoing part.
It's a pity you couldn't make a "real" game out of this. The basic idea looks promising. The controls, especially turning, of the car should become improved.
Nice little game. An by little I mean: Small screen! Glad I didn't play it on my 24' desk screen.
I like the mechanics of the game and felt quite lost in the maze. So the atmosphere was right.
Interesting idea. Quite hard to solve and the sound is too quiet.
I like the oldschool look of this game.
Such impressive graphics but I really don't like the gameplay that much. You should make this a proper more complex game.
Yeah, escaped! It was very close.
I like the mouthmade sounds. Got stuck once in a wall after changing the screen.
Great graphics. But the controls and the enemies' bullets behaviour should be much improved.
Also it seems like the player is invincible with his unlimited rewinds.
Nice take on tetris. The sound was somewhat delayed and the game is quite difficult.
Couldn't start. Just some cryptic error on win7 64.
Nice take on the stereotypic room escape games. (I really don't like em)
Nice idea, but most of the time I weren't sure how the tilt angle influenced ball movement. That makes the game very difficult.
A more consistent batch of colors would be more likeable.
Meh. .NET Framework error. "Requested GraphicsMode not available. SetPixelFormat error: 87."
On Win7 64, C2D E7600, AMD HD5670, Native screen res: 1920x1200
Great sound and graphics. It's a pity that it's kinda "wasted" to such a simple gameplay.
It's a pity. My browser just froze (Firefox 6, Flash 10 on Win7 64 w/ AMD HD5670)
Took some tiem to figure out I control the bridges (haven't read beforehand). At first try I thought there is some crude buggy delay in my jumping. Anyways, nice and unusual idea.
Nice puzzle game. I like the look and sounds. Controls were annoying because you could get stuck on open doorways quite easily.
I really like this one. Very unique look and feel and the game mechanics work well. This concept could grow into a great combat system for a party based rpg.
Like the visuals. It's kinda hard to control with the water physics. Using an analog stick of a gamepad would be great.
What the did I just play?
Solid tower defense game. A little rough but well done for 48 hrs. The third wave feels quite tough.
I really like the look of this game. Unfortunately you can get stuck with elevators and the death collisions are quite unforgiving.
Nice graphics. Took me a while to figure out to jump while falling.
Great visual aesthetics. Where is the sound? And why last LD's theme :P.
There's something annoying about the controls.
I like the look of the game. The altering colors for the floor tiles work quite well.
Works. The physics make this more difficult to control tha necessary. The sound effects are a little "extreme" imo.
What a great idea!
Wow! Great sound and graphics. I found the kitten btw :D.
Superb stereo voice acting. I liked the end and also the epilogue.
Level design inside the mothership was quite annoying.
What is the goal of this game? I found the red guy and tried to follow him but he got lost.
Fixed the link. Should work now. Thanks for the hint.
Nice little game with one flaw. There is no collision detection for end of the world.
Good idea for a puzzle game.
Great puzzle concept. But why to click every puppy at the end of the level. Seems to be an unnecessary mechanic.
Great soundtrack, lovely graphics, but the game mechanic is quite tedious.
Innovative idea, but quite unintuitive to control.
This game has an interesting m.c. escher like look. I like that minimalistic style.
The introductory texts are displayed to short to read completely.
Great platformer. Is there no real ending? This has a lot potential for a longer and more complex game.
A pity that it's not finished. Looks good so far.
Good entry for you first ld. Unfortunately gets quiet boring after a short while.
I like the music.
Key layout is quite bad. Pressing shift multiple times causes windows to suggest key-locking.
The graphics are nice. It ran quite laggy on my machine. Without the bugs this qould make a good game as the jumping works quite fine.
The art looks good but it's sometimes hard to recognize zombies on ground tiles. Are you really supposed to kill 250 zombies in the game? Seems quite tedious.
As a prototype, it's okay.
But there are quite a lot flaws. Interaction player/walls (should they kill?), player/lava (doesn't kill but hurt) and what about the potions?
Great music. The jumping mechanic isn't that good.
Yeah, found the end. Great game, great use of 2d physics. Not much to complain except missing sound and that the ga,e is quite short.
I like the basic idea, but why do you get money for destroying a wall?
What's the goal of this game? The concept is nevertheless quite interesting but the presentation is rather poor.
Great retro look and also retro difficulty ;).
Lovely little game. Sometimes the field of view was buggy (already collected coins were shown). Full points for humor with this story.
Simple but great fun. The presentation is great.
Quite unforgiving. I like this kind of concept for a space game.
Not very innovative but everything else is fine to great.
Nice. Quite cheap execution but I had to smile reading the texts.
Really interesting take on the theme. Lacks one or two more features to the game mechanic to make it really fun to play.
I liked it. Very classic platformer. Some of the background/foreground contrast could be improved.
Very atmospheric. The game totally transports the mood of being alone with its look and music.
I liked this game. Quite difficult but a nice basic idea. Putting the oil on fire was fun.
What to do about the zombies?
Could make a good game with additional work. So far it's more like a tech demo.
Great idea, quite difficult. Like the minimalistic look.
Great mood. Unfortunately I got stuck quite soon.
Good first try.
Whoa, newtonian spacecraft physics. I don't know what's the goal of this game. Looks nice.
The mood totally fits the theme (by music and story). Why didn't you implemet "enter" as submit and auto cursor in the command line? Would have made the game more convenient to play.
I got trapped in an error loop after some time.
I really like the basic idea, the graphics and sound. but I couldn't see how the different blocks had a real influence on the game.
Being on a a slice of toast is one of the more creative ideas around here. Well done.
Very interesting idea. I really like this kind of game.
The graphics look totally blurred on my computer which make it kinda hard to play.
Great idea! The game mechanics are great. This makes an awesome puzzle game. I liked the retro tune. The graphics could be a little more compelling.
Funny. Nice water physics but how to control shoot direction?
Ah, I'm quite bad at text adventures. But this is great. I love the visual style and soundtrack.
Great idea is the Programmer at work mode.
This looks really promising, but I totally didn't know what I was doing. That's a pity.
Haha. "Gnome Over"
I had a bug where I was forced to run right regardless which key I pressed. It ended with the next powerup I collected.
The graphics are great.
This game was real fun. The minimalistic look works great and the game mechanics are awesome. Very addictive. It only lacks some catchy background tune.
The graphics style is awesome. Unfortunately the masking of rocks isn't that great so at some areas this breaks the mood.
Some atmospheric sound would totally help.
** spoiler **
I just saw a tiny alien once but couldN't found it again.
This rather "simple" idea works pretty well. I liked the controls and the progressing difficulty. The visuals are also pretty great.
Some sound would have been good.
The concept of this game works well. Balancing could be better. It's quiet difficult at the moment. Sound, music and graphics are very good. The particle effects are great.
Funny idea but the controls feel somewhat sluggish. The graphics and sound are nice.
Something is wrong with the controls (got stuck regularly on corners). And I couldn't open the doors.
It's a pity, cause the game looks nice.
And while I scan the comments... what the hell did I do wrong?
This is an awesome game.
I found just one flaw. You could run out of ressources forever. If you wasted all your iron, you got stuck cause building iron mines needs iron again. This is something a game like this has to avoid.
I really liked the tile shifting at earthquakes.
I really love games like that. I was able to keep the system stable for quite some time. Pity that there is no sound (some environment sound for the mood or shy music would be nice).
Funny that I had a very similar basic idea with my game (tiny bottle world).
I really liked this game. The physics work great and the whole idea is fun. The music is very good.
The background somehow didn't fit the mood.
This game is pure genious!
The controls are such an interesting game mechanic that even the simple graphics and sound doesn't matter. Great!
> Pity you can't move a foot again once it's back without tapping the other foot first though, but the controls aren't too bad once you get used to it :D Good job!
Imo that makes the game mechanics especially interesting.
Great and very polished game. The gameplay mechanics are quite unique. It takes some practice to coordinate Big Bill and Tiny Timmy but after that it works very well.
Walking backwards if you missed a moustache is quite annoying.
Couldn't start it. "vector expression out of range"
Tried on Win7 64, i5, Intel HD3000
It's a pity cause it looks so great.
Been on another computer and it worked (the original version).
Pretty interesting but also a little pointless. Engine works well.
Very good idea. The controls seem to be a little unintuitive first but work fine after some time. But they are still a tad too sensitive for my taste.
The '#' key bug is really a game killer. Out of curiosity, Why did you choose such an exotic key?
Interesting idea but it lacks a clear goal and user feedback on what to achieve.
Good basic idea but too much glitches to be really playable. I got stuck in the solid envorinment (walls/floors) more than once. The re-entry point after a dead seemd quite random.
With some bugfixing this has a lot potential.
Actually this was more frustating than fun. The basic idea is pretty interesting but the level generator gives some rather unsolvable levels too often.
The basic idea is great. Took my some time to figure out what's this about but after that it was fun. I felt like being in a nuclear reactor or something. Unfortunately I had no sound in Firefox. Don't know if there is none or if this a technical issue.
Pretty atmospheric. But is there anything supposed to happen?
Good graphics and basic idea. But please keep in mind to at least pack all the files into an archive at your link. Also it's really important to make a version for windows users that rund without python/pygame.
And, as the others mentioned, there are some crude glitches. But don't despair, it's all about practice.
Great visual style and concept and very good level design. Pity there is no sound here (Firefox).
Well done for a first LD. The controls feel too slow and clunky but I like the basic exploration concept.
What an awesome game. The graphics are great and the whole game feels very consistent. Awesome work. One of the best games I played so far.
Personally I found the flying monster too difficult.
That was funny!
The overall appearance totally fits the mood of this game. The graphics are a little inconsistent at parts but the simple visual style totally works. Great sound and music.
The movement of godziall could've been a little slower imo.
The basic concept works well and looks good. It's a pity you couldn't achievae more of a game with this.
Very well made. I like the music and graphics. Gameplay is rather simple though.
Wow! What a beautiful game. It took me some time to figure out the mechanics. The comments of the robot definitelly helped but could have been said a tad earlier for the impatient.
All in all, if you have some patience, it's just a great small game.
What an awesome idea. I really like games with this "passive" concept of influence on the game world. The graphics and sounds are great even if the soundtrack doesn't totally fit the mood.
Another level of decisions to make would be great and more content/room-types obviously.
Unfortunately after delving about six floors I got stuck in a bug where the player character tried to kill a dead slime over and over again.
Wow, it's amazing how such a simple idea can make such a challenging game if it's mad as good as this one. Impressive that this is your first game ever.
Only negative is that playing this game after some beer is really annoying at the higher levels ;).
I like the basic idea but the controls are not what I excepted. Some accelerate/decelerate/turnleft/turnright controls would probably work better.
As it is this game is far to difficult to play. The graphics are nice.
A tripod bretzle! That's strange.
A little too hectic for my taste. The graphics of the city look pretty nifty.
Wow, what a great concept. I really would like to see this game polished and extended.
Graphics are quite simple but all in all very consistent. Sound is good but becomes annoying after some time. The mechanics work great.
Wow. Awesome idea. This game feels very consistent. I like the retro concept and the mechanics work pretty well.
This game looks great visually and idea-wise but it seems quite unfinished. I didn't know what impact my decisions had.
So as it is now it's unfortunately quiet pointless but has potential for something bigger and better.
Nice idea and great mood. But the mixed cursor/text input control isn't my thing. I'm just not good at this.
The graphics and music are great.
It's a pity this game lacks a goal. The basic idea is very nice. So there is potential to make this a real game. The music is great.
I liked it. Very good graphics and a well made ending.
I like it. Nice use of physics.
Great idea. The controls really take some practice and probably could be best realized with an anlogue controller stick. The music ist awesome.
I personally don't like games like this but it's very well executed. The soundtrack is great.
How did you manage to record some music like this within 48 hours?
No,the link definitely doesn't work. A pity, cause the name got me interested.
I'm totally for a well made squares/rects graphical concept and this is one. The soundtrack is great and complements the visual style. Unfortunately the controls and physics aren't that great.
Great idea and concept. At first it felt a little too hectic but after some time the gameplay was fine. Very depressing parallels to real life.
Overall a brilliant game.
Great idea.
Some sound would massively increase the gaming experience. I like the graphics.
Hooray for pygame!
Btw, what did you use to build the exe?
That was hilarious. The whole mood is great even with this simple mechanics. Level design was okay, too.
Have to find me someone to try it out. This looks pretty interesting.
Kudos to you for making a board/cardgame.
This is a pretty great idea. A pity there is no sound.
I love the concept of planet combat and space flight and the graphics are pretty good.
Great idea. I suck at the more "dangerous" levels so only finished the first three. The game feels very consistent. For a computer screen a 2x scale option for the graphics would be great.
Neat idea, works pretty well. The increasing difficulty doesn't seem as consistent as it should. I like the sound atmosphere.
What did I just play?
Neat game mechanic and lovely retro style. Quiet short.
Very cute little game and great basic idea. Unfrotunately I had to look into the walkthrough to find out what to do.
It lacks some more content but well done for a 48 hours entry.
Great idea but way too difficult. Often one bad jump at the end of the level kills.
The graphics and music are nice.
It looks very good on first sight and it's a pity that the game is quite unfinished. I spot some potential.
Very good game. Neat idea which works great with the pretty good level design.
The sounds are too minimalistic for my taste.
This looks so pretty. I love the concept and overall mood.
Unfortunately I couldn't manage to progress ingame.
Lovely little game, especially the music. But what am I supposed to do on the planets except shooting stuff?
Very good work. Fits the theme very well and has an interesting mood. The game mechanic is great for a puzzle game.
The only negative is the shadowy spot to select pieces which kinda obscures them.
Great idea. Unfortunately the controls and physics feel quite rough and there are some glitches. The visuals and music are pretty good.
Awesome you made this with python and pygame.
Nice. Quite challenging but would be better with more meaningful death penalty, I like the look and music of this. The ending was... well... surprising.
A great prototype for a level editor and game, but not a game in a strict sense at all. I really like the visual look of it.
I think I killed my space bar... just kidding. I killed a keyboard some 15 years ago playing Tekken or something on PC. This game wasn't that bad in button mahsing ;).
Unfortunately there isn't that much to do. I guess there is some subtext with the Hangul and the red rocket...
Wow, that's impressive for a first LD. the game feels quite complete and consistent in its style.
I could be more challenging with earlier puzzle elements using the free-fly curves caused by gravity.
A pity, doesn't work so far in Firefox on Win7 64. (Both links)
Nice. I like the mouthmade sounds and the writing but the graphics aren't that great imo.
It reminds me of Tiny Hawk with enemies and without the nice skateboard pysics.
The gameplay is just too simple for such a great art style and sound mood. I like the drawings and surreal story.
Thanks a lot for the comments and ratings so far. Actually I'm working on a post-compo version which fixes some of the issues stated here. There will be:
- a marker where you'll actually build
- additional music track(s)
@ 4urentertainment:
Thanks for this in depth review. I'll try to add some of your suggestion to the post-compo version. Especially the idea with a tile that gives a bonus only for having all four colours adjacent sounds great.
@ kasarun:
Yes, it was all drawn on real paper with artist pens and coloured pencils.
@ Jesper Oskarsso:
I really appreciate your detailled comment. Helps me to improve the post-compo version. I thought the mechanic to keep in mind that the bigger tiles have to be placed in the end, hence the dicard button, quite essential. Will think about it again. I'm already working on additional levels with some twist in the map layout.
After finishing the guitar track I was also reminded of the Dwarf Fortress soundtrack. Wasn't intended in first place but I think it fits great here.
Now I'm off to play and rate the games of you who commented here. Thanks again.
@dr. pingu
Probably caused by the filename '...exe.zip'.
Noted too late that this could cause problems with antivirus software. In case you have python and pygame installed you could try the source/linux zip.
Hm something's wrong here. Display.py wants to import some screen module which isn't existent.
It's really important, if you make a game with python/pygame, to make some sort of reasonable packaging.
I was running quite a while without finding anything. A sign on the map where the player is would help to make it less tedious. I liked the music.
Whoa! I think those explosions will give me bad dreams tonight. Neat effects and good idea for the game mechanics.
Funny story. Finding the stars via the distance works well but flying around becomes tedious after a while.
I really like the game mechanics and basic idea of this. With some better graphics and a decent AI this has a lot potential.
The game looks nice graphically, but it seems not to work properly.
If pressing w, the level switches to some cloud area where I just fall to nothingness. Otherwise I got stuck in the first level.
It's tiny The Sims. There are still some graphical glitches and it's a pity 2 of the 6 sides are unused.
I liked the player character's animation. First two world were too easy after that it was too difficult.
That's a pretty clever idea. I really like it. The graphics fell very oldschool in a good way.
I like the basic idea, the physics work, the graphics are good and the sounds fit. But the controls make it really unplayable to me.
This has great potential. Unfortunately the genre classic mechanism of gravitational switching jumps is countered by the controls.
I like the graphics.
This game is hell a lot of fun!
It feels quite polished even for a jam game. Only Thing I would critizise is that the graphics from intro to game aren't that consistent. Everything else is just awesome. And omg/s is just a great measurement unit.
I like the stat based rpg-like approach. Could be quite an interesting game with some additional work. At the moment it's quite difficult.
Well done for first time LD and first finished game.
Great take with a twist on Space Invaders. Quite diificult with the jumping but good fun.
Nice idea. But this feels more like a playable comment on game design than a real game. Nevertheless well made and polished.
What an awesome game. This has great potential to become a real big and complex game. The graohics and sound are great. The controls work well.
Simple but classic gameplay. Solid work. The sound effects form some sort of strange soundtrack while you play. The graphics could be a tad more consistent.
Well done for first LD.
Interesting idea. I like the visual concept. Becomes quite difficult once you start building stuff.
Pretty clever puzzler. Challenging, well done for a first LD. Why did you choose left hand controls as a default?
The music became a little annoying after some while.
Very funny idea. Somehow the camera has some glitches which makes the game unnecessary difficult. The graphics are okay.
Yeah. Another tiny bottles idea. Very well made platformer. I liked it, especially the soundtrack and the attacking mechanics. I found a bug where I got thrown into the solid terrain after I've been hit by an enemy.
Very good idea. I like the graphical style with the canvas effect. Took me a short while to get used to the controls but then it worked fine.
This is great. I like the whole concept but the controls are a little clumsy.
Interesting take on Tower Defense. I foound it quite hard to beat. Maybe the big enemies should award more than just one point per kill. (I just read that they do, probably mislooked during play)
Nevertheless quite fund to play with very nice music.
Nice idea but it seems to be quite buggy at the moment. The controls are a little confusing at first.
Very simple gameplay but it works well. Adding the data of other players is a nice idea.
After seeing the start menu I expected something 3-dimensional on a sphere :(.
Took me a while to figure out what's this about. Very interesting ideam but what's the point in capturing and moving around those planets?
Interesting concept. But the controls make it very difficult to play. Mouselook would have been more intuitive.
Pretty good game. Played it to the end. I liked the idea of shrinking your ship.
The graphics could be a tad more consistent, the music is good.
First java game I couldn't run. Windows archive, after unpacking, doesn't even start.
This game looks interesting and quite good visually. I wasn't sure what the goal could be. No matter what I've done I couldn't lose or win. The controls work pretty well.
Pretty little game. The mood is great with this graphics and sound. The slow movement makes it quite tedious to run along.
This is an awesome idea!
Besides of that I like the graphics of plants and aliens and the music. Some movement animation would have been great.
Glad to see more Ludum Dare output from our city. :)
Unfortunately doesn't work in my browser. Any chance for a downloadable standalone to fix thi issue?
I like this game. it reminds me of a quiet unknown game I played about 15 to 20 years ago.
Unfortunately I couldn't figure out when the money refills. It happened one time but not again.
The sounds end graphics are above average. Well done.
Very good idea. Even if the graphics are simple they work quite good.
The mechanics need some adjustment. To me it felt a little pointless as it is.
I am win!
I really like this concept. Some atmospheric music would be great and additional levels, for sure.
Really a lot content for a ld48 game. The music gets annoying quite fast (the hint by the bunnie on the second map seems visionary ;) ).
The game mechanic works well and the game is quite challenging. The overall execution is very good.
Great game. Quite difficult but the whole game (graphics, sound, mechanics) create a consistent mood. Unfortunately my browser crashed while collecting the upper right crumb in level 1.
It's a pity this is so unfinished cause the basic idea is great. The game's concept feels quite oldschool, in a good way.
What a great game. Double plus for the hand- or rather mouthmade sound effects and music. This creates a real unique mood. The hiding mechanic also is great.
Interesting basic worms-like idea. But the controls are quite counter-intuitive.
Funny dialogues and great visual concept and good level design. One of the better platformers around here.
Both versions didn't start on my computer in Firefox :(.
There was just the rules explanation and nothing else to see.
Took me a way to figure out a working strategy. Quiet difficult. But I really loke the basic idea and the whole game feels very consistent.
Very interesting idea but this is really difficult. I tried to make pixels as fast as possible but the enemies got me pretty fast.
Great zelda-like game. The enemies are challenging visuals and sound are good and the level design is solid.
I liked the pixel art of the world map more than the sprites and tiles.
This is a great game mechanic. The shifting scales of world and movement work very good.
I like the minimalistic look as well. Unfortunately there are some minor issues with collision detection.
This game feels so oldschool and reminds me of my old quickbasic development days.
The ascii look and keyboard control works surprisingly well. The path of the enemies felt quiet random so it took three waves until my towers got something to shoot at.
How did you put all the stuff into one exe file?
Nice idea for the theme. The car physics are quite unrealistic which makes steering really difficult. I like the music.
It feels like inverse "space invaders". Quiet difficult to stay alive.
This is a really interesting concept. The controls and camera takes some time to get used to. I like the idea of controling a swarm.
I couldn't figure out what the mutations were.
Interesting idea to let the world evolve by player creation. Gameplay and physics is not that good.
I really liked the soundtrack and sprites.
I really like games like this. The effects of the different buildings could need better explanations. The graphics are a little blurry on my system (Firefox/Win). Nevertheless it was fun to play.
Very interesting puzzle concept. Getting the right timing is pretty dificult.
A pity, it doesn't start here in Firefox on Win7/64.
Pretty impressive presentation. I liked the whole concept. Feels quite complete.
Awesome mood, great game. I really liked the voiceover and the game mechanics that evolve during the game.
Another great game. Very atmospheric.
Interesting physics and funny story. Just lacks some nice music. The sound effects are good.
Awesome concept and a somehow disturbing game. I liked it.
Awesome intro. Great humor. The controls are a little quirky.
Funny take on the theme and the LD meta. With much better graphics this could be a great flash game.
This really is a great idea. But with the current implementation it's quite easy to get stuck. Did I miss it or do the levels lack any goal? I didn't reach a new stage without refreshing the page.
Well done with the style and humor. Gets frustrating after some time trying around to combine stuf.
Very simple gameplay but looks nice. The music is okay.
I really like the visuals. Got stuck in the third level dying at the first flower without seeing any chance to pass.
Nice idea. A little confusing.
Will definitely give it a try on my android phone.
Great game idea for the theme. I liked the sound and graphics. Pretty great mood with this consistent style.
Awesome idea. It was pretty luck dependent. On the first play I weren't able to hide completely in any level. On the second play I immediately found a suitable place to hide in each level.
I like the graphics and sound a lot.
Interesting concept and executed very well. The whole interface feels very win95 retro-like which is not bad (I still remember good games with similar user interface).
Pretty great atmosphere with the audio and stuff the player should do.
But it gets boring fast with that many cats to kill to proceed.
Great idea for a puzzle platformer and interesting take on the theme. I got stuck pretty fast.
Nice concept. I really like the art style. Seems to become quite difficult at the end and the controls feel a little clunky.
Very interesting aesthetics. I liked it.
Nice little game. Mechanics work well.
Controls were quite clunky. Pressing space seemed to didn't do much. I liked the look of the game and the basic idea.
Funny meta game. What's the song playing? And btw, congrats getting this on indiegames.com.
Great arcade game. Somehow the shop didn't open consistently for me.
Sountrack is great.
This game looks great with the drawn map style.
The mechanics work bt could need some more depth of gameplay. This has some potential for a bigger and more complex game.
The graphics does its job. Nice start for 10 hours. Curious how it would play and look if finished.
Pretty decent platrformer with a well done evolution puzzle mechanics. The controls were a bit slow reacting in my case (Firefox/Win).
Funny dialogues.
Looks pretty great. Very steep difficulty curve. Amazingly complex for a LD game.
Radioactive boxcats with laser eyes. Awesome!
The level design rather looks like being insied a building than outside. Some sound effects would be great. Pretty solid gameplay.
This looks and sounds great. Awesome voice-acting. Somehow the shooting in stage 3 broke the game on my computer. It became pretty laggy.
Had to make a bugfix (within bugfixing rule #1). The original version will eventually crash when reaching generation 10. If you have downloaded the original version, please redownload.
@marudziik:
There is a windows version available already (the 'Windows' link) made with py2exe.
@Kayelgee:
The "special award" issue is something I noticed to late. Would enhance the gameplay alot, I guess.
@Guardian_Bob:
Do you mean stop shrinking at contact or from generation to generation? Was the movement in the second stage slower after absorbing a lot of brown/black stuff? If that's the case, that is intended by gamedesign but probably not communicated clear enough.
So, in the instruction the '5' looks like an 'S' which confused me with the controls on the first try. But after rereading and trying again I still couldn't figure out how to play this game. Some of the red ones disappeared after hacking the number keys on my keyboard.
Great visuals and fluid controls. But what were I supposed to do except from dying?
This has some potential but totally lacks some challenge or goal.
Whoa, the music is still playing after quiting the game. Anyway, nice, but annoying, soundtrack to write this comment.
I liked the idea to pick the right scheme to finish the levels. Got stuck in one of the selection screens, unable to choose the next form.
Great idea. Somehow there is some feedback missing about the mutations. They feel quite random at the moment.
Liked the music and sounds.
That's pretty tough. I like the soundtrack. 1000 kittens were killing me every time after falling down the tower.
Nice retro-styled game. Had fun.
Pretty interesting visual concept. I like that.
The game itself seems a little to hard and progress to the next stage took too long.
Funny take on the theme. The sound effects are great.
Awesome idea for the visuals. The gameplay is also pretty nice but get's a little boring quite fast.
Great take on a classic with a very good implementation of the theme. I really liked the graphical retro-like vector style. Good job.
'The colour went out of me' while I am filled with green? Strange.
I really like the basic idea, but there are too few grey stuff to collect to make it work. The enlarged pixelated look is really nice.
Awesome game! That was so much fun to play.
Wow. Great concept and idea. Makes a nice game. Fits the theme. Well done.
Hu, no graphics? Interesting concept. I'm too slow in reacting. Very minimal game.
That's a true minimalistic game. Great idea and fun to play.
Ouch, I blinked. Intense green eyes.
Interesting concept, but those colors!
I so missed the music in digger ;).
Sad but with a nice ending.
The mood transported through sound, stroy and graphics is great.
Fun little game. Did I get stuck in an endless winning screen?
Great sound and graphics. Controls copuld be improved (jumping was not so intuitive and zxc is bad for German keyboard layout where y is the z)
Funny game. Good work and fun to play (even if it's not my kind of game.) Looks pretty polished.
Truly a minimal rpg. The fights seems a little random. I like the humor in it.
Bullethell!
Nice soundtrack. And only boss enemies. Great!
This game was pretty fun to play. Great idea and well done. Fits the theme perfectly.
I love experimental simulation games like this one. Even if it is quite a lot trial and error in some of the levels. The background track totally fits the game. Almost gave up in level 8. Played all 12 levels.
Very difficult to control even though it's an interesting concept. Wasn't sure what to do. Liked the music.
Great idea. The inversed Tetris mechanic works pretty well. The story is also pretty funny. Sound totally fits the game.
Good mechanic and level design. Fits the theme pretty well. I liked the music. The game feels very complete.
Interesting take on asteroid to add gravity (and potatoes). The controls are too sensitive.
Pretty neat game. Quite simple, well executed and totally fits the theme. The sound is great.
Great puzzle concept. Was fun to play. Sound was okay. I liked the misguiding pieces.
GET THE POTATO!!
And I cannot reach it in time :(.
Nice idea, well executed.
I really like the basic idea, but the controls are pretty tough to get inot.
Great game. Core mechanics work very well. Totally fits the theme.
Ultimate is funny :D.
Btw, yeah HaxePunk ;). (Made also my first game in Haxe/HaxePunk, worked pretty well).
What a great combination of game mechanics. Fun to play. The color controls took me a while to get right.
Pretty confusing first, but simple after one figured out what's going on. Very solid presentation and sound.
So diificult eith that collision detection. I liked the basic idea. Heads up.
Not a game yet, but interesting start for a level generator.
The ship has some strange behaviour.
Game looks great. Had to laugh. Kills my 'E' key ;).
Fun little game. Quite difficult after some rooms running out of ammo. Guess that's supposed to be.
Btw, yeah HaxePunk ;).
That's an humorous one. I had to smile alot. Nice parody on 3 classics. I liked the third one the most. That doesn't have to hide behind the new SC, mechanics-wise ;).
Great idea. Physics and control could need some refinement. I didn't realized the glass wall in the first room, took me some time. Jumping was pretty difficult.
What an awesome and minimalism like idea. The drag and drop was a little off. Everything else is great (and quite mind-boggling ;) )
Waah!?
Guess I killed my spacebar. Nice minimalistic reaction game. I liked it. Too difficult for me.
Too much quick reaction for me. Sounds very interestong, but I didn't get it :(.
Really unique game. Great mood and concept. Maybe the player's square (or the whole presentation) is a tad too small. Everything else is great.
Great idea. The text about what's next could be in the middle of the screen.
Separating means not to place the two different ones close to each other.
@Gremlin Delay is probably caused by triggering on mouse release.
It is quite an easy mechanism. Each three clicks will seed the same plant. The seedlings are similar but have differently shaped leaves.
Thanks for the comments so far. I will try to make some of the proposed improvements for a post-compo version.
Interesting game mechanic. The introductory text ended to soon, but I yould figure it out anyway.
O, those colors.
The subtle change in details after some time is a great idea. Game works pretty well.
Btw, yeah HaxePunk ;).
Ha. I had a very similar idea at the start of this LD. Wasn't sure how minimal a 4x game can be made. Your's is pretty minimal. Good job.
I really like this idea and it was fun to play.
Great game!. This is sooo retro, which is awesome. I had some trouble to get used to the controls and wished for my joystick back from the 90s ;). Game feels very complete in style, gameplay and appearence. Good job (again).
Fun game but the level seems quite dependent of luck.
Collision feels a little imprecise. I liked the music.
Good game. The graphics and text create a very unique mood. Platforming was chalenging, sometimes the shots seemed to get initialized before the platforms.
What a sudden start. I like the basic concept and the music. Player feedback could be improved.
Beautiful game, nice mechanics. The level design could be streamlined a bit. Didn't like the end.
Great game. A lot of trial and error but also a lot of fun to play.
