LD21 — Escape

Escape from Planet 21 by whiletruefork 2011-08-23T06:45:00

Being written by a guy who calls himself "whiletruefork", how could this NOT be awesome? Surprisingly though, it did not cause excessive lag or crash my computer - very misleading and disappointing ;-)

I noticed one option at one point that I couldn't click (I don't remember what it was/where it was). But I still managed to complete it. That was a wonderful game, and proves that a game doesn't need good graphics, sound, or effects to be fun and engaging.

The Power of Escape by BurnZeZ 2011-08-23T17:18:00

I figured it out right away :D
That's some pretty good music too!

Forever Running by Fenmar 2011-08-24T18:15:00

A bit too repetitive, and the collision detection seemed off a little (I couldn't jump up and over a wall if I was already pressed against the side of it, not to mention everything seemed to just use strict bounding-box based collisions). But for 48 hours, it's decent.

Who let the robots out? by wallacoloo 2011-08-22T06:44:00

Haha, I just discovered a bug. When 1 robot is trying to deliver materials to another robot that is far away, the materials just get teleported. The robots don't bother to find a way to meet up. This is partially due to the pathfinding algorithm I wrote - I limited it to only calculating paths that were within 40 tiles for performance reasons.
Oh well, you can consider this a feature :P

Who let the robots out? by wallacoloo 2011-08-23T19:41:00

Yeah, I was rushed with the tutorial. I started it about 15 minutes before the entry deadline. I accidentally made the container too small, and fixed it by just shrinking the text instead since I was in such a hurry.

Run Escape by none 2011-08-21T18:54:00

This idea is really cool. I love how when you lose you press *escape* to restart - very clever. But when I try to run it on 64bit Windows 7, it crashes before it even loads a ui :-(

Death Boulder Jones by demonpants 2011-08-23T01:23:00

Yeah, it definitely needs checkpoints or lives or something to make it a bit easier. I also found the walls obstructing my view at times, which was annoying. But the concept is great!

Scriptblock's Escape LD48 by scriptblocks 2011-08-24T03:00:00

I feel that I didn't really have any control over the outcome. It was pure trial-and-error with no skill involved. If you were to add something that required skill (avoiding cameras, shooting baddies, etc), I think this would be more fun to play.

This is wonderful! I love the environment/mood of the game. I was a bit surprised by the abrupt ending, but that is to be expected for a game in a competition like this. I see potential for a very deep storyline here too. If you were to further develop this, I think it could be a hit!

Help! I'm trapped in a compact 2D Riemannian manifold! by mikolalysenko 2011-08-23T05:17:00

Haha, I can tell what theme you voted for! ;-) I really liked the originality of this game. It was fun to play mostly because it was just so different from most other games on the 'net. I think some subtle background music could help set a good mood for this.

Boingo's Escape by G4JC 2011-08-22T21:15:00

Very impressive graphics. The controls are a bit buggy; it seems that whenever you land on something that isn't ground, you stop moving horizontally. However, using music that was not created by you during the competition - even though it's public domain - is a violation of the rules. You might be able to remove it to avoid being disqualified, but modifying your game after the submission deadline gets you disqualified too, so I would consult someone who knows the rules better than I to find out what to do.

ESCAPE by TerryDiF 2011-08-24T18:04:00

Usually I end up getting stuck on these kinds of games for 10 minutes and then quitting out of boredom. But that wasn't the case with this one. I find storylines help tremendously to make these kinds of games more interesting, but there was none in your game. Also, if you beat it and play it again, your inventory is not cleared. But overall, good graphics and it fit the theme.
