This has a good feel to it. It also fits the theme quite well.

mortar 2012-04-23 04:16

I thoroughly enjoyed this. I don't really have much else to say. Great job!

paste120 2012-04-23 04:33

That was fun. I really enjoyed that. Love the music too.

fireblend 2012-04-23 04:46

Very enjoyable, although I was a bit overwhelmed at first :P great job!

saint11 2012-04-23 05:35

Really cool! And the pixel art is very beautiful. I was a little overwhelmed with all the info too, maybe it would be interesting if the mechanics were adding slowly one after another.

matthias_zarzecki 2012-04-23 09:50

Wonderful graphics and idea. It might be a little too complicated to immediately understand, though. Even after 5min I'm not really sure what I'm suppoed to do and how I actually performed.

pythong 2012-04-23 10:46

great job.... i am amazed and speechless at the same time...
...
WHOAAAA!

stromchin 2012-04-23 12:24

Very nice, but I was a bit overwhelmed by all the resources, and the disasters!

netmute 2012-04-23 13:54

Great graphics, fun gameplay. Maybe a bit too easy. Really enjoyed it!

mikesoylu 2012-04-23 15:38

Great game! I love how the earth crust animates :D

smvilar 2012-04-23 17:21

Interesting concept.

polar 2012-04-23 17:25

Really good game, and it fits the theme well... Only problem is that it's too easy, not that it would stop me from playing more!

lacutis 2012-04-23 17:32

Great game, a tutorial might have been useful. The first time I played I ran myself out of iron before I had all the building types I needed.
Other than that I think its a solid entry.

johanp 2012-04-23 17:51

Nice simulation with fun effects. A bit too much going on for my own taste.

the8donut 2012-04-23 19:19

Beautiful art, engaging gameplay. Although it's based too much on random events, this is one of my favorites so far! Great job!

tyruspeace 2012-04-23 19:43

I liked this quite a bit! The sounds were great and the gameplay was fun. It was hard to figure out what was going on, though. It took me a little while to figure out that buildings do different things depending on where you put them, for example.

In hindsight it was an obvious thing to try, but by the time I thought to in my first game I was out of a resource necessary to do so. Nice work, though! I really like this.

karnak 2012-04-23 22:09

Theme and graphics: 5/5!

robbiehunt 2012-04-23 22:11

Searched for "mouse only" and found this. REALLY glad I did. I want to play this regularly!

Slap a tutorial on this and upload to Kongregate or something!!!

gelatindesign 2012-04-23 22:20

Really fun :) Easy to get and really enjoyable

volute 2012-04-23 23:19

Hello

Wow thanks a lot for the nice comments :)

I've just publish a post-mortem of the game :
http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2012/04/23/tinysasters-post-mortem/

papayajuice 2012-04-23 23:24

Really great game! The graphics were lush and well done. I'd like to see this idea expanded outside of LD.

de10ter 2012-04-23 23:30

Very cool.
Simple mechanics but a challenging game.
I love the changing terrain as a reaction to disasters.
And as if that wasn't enough it looks great!

hazematman 2012-04-23 23:32

I very, very much like this game! It is very enjoyable and fun!!

cadin 2012-04-23 23:44

I like this a lot. Beautiful art and music. It took me a few tries to figure out what I was supposed to be doing, but I finally got the hang of it. Great work. Really impressive.

josefnpat 2012-04-23 23:46

This is very cool! The "win" condition makes me feel a bit unsuccessful.

artefon 2012-04-24 00:05

Very fun game, nice graphics and fits the theme nicely. The best game I played so far. Congratulations for the great entry.

mach60kas 2012-04-24 00:27

Wow, I really enjoyed this game! It's certainly a very unique game mechanic in play here.

mimshwright 2012-04-24 00:28

Great work. Seems very complex even with fairly simple rules. That's a lot to pull off in 48 hours. I'm looking forward to trying it in more depth.

rhy3756547 2012-04-24 00:29

Sweet!

hazard 2012-04-24 00:34

Amazing work!

eburn184 2012-04-24 01:23

Very nice game. It is definitely the most unique game I have played so far for the compo

touch 2012-04-24 02:40

love the feel of this game!

vigrid 2012-04-24 10:45

Fun, simple but solid game, and perfect interpretation of the theme.

benjamin-soule 2012-04-24 12:20

Great game !! But the disasters effects are too small to my taste. Infact the worth disaster seems to stop playing for thinking a bit or look at your ressources. So you can just avoid the core mechanic ( avoiding disasters ) by just building very fast.

madflame991 2012-04-24 14:39

This has A LOT of potential. I've played the enhanced version too and won them both (at easy) by placing random stuff here and there and upgrading a shrine.

jaj 2012-04-24 17:13

Once I knew what I was doing this was a lot of fun.

sonnybone 2012-04-24 18:13

Hey... this is rad. It seems super complicated at first, but it really isn't. The music is PERFECT and the way the tiles jump around... OH MAN! So much charm in this little game. AMAZING JOB!

qaterknan 2012-04-24 18:51

Great game but it is too easy :)

sodaware 2012-04-25 01:02

This is a really polished entry. Great graphics, and the gameplay is innovative and quite challenging on the harder difficulties. Great work, and I'd love to see the concept taken further.

transmit 2012-04-25 01:42

Really enjoyed!

benw 2012-04-25 03:51

I didn't really feel like it was necessary to use the generate option much and as such I didn't like building a lot of shrines. I feel like if it we're balanced a bit more it would be great.

skelethulu 2012-04-25 04:48

very pretty! I felt compulsion loops hooking into my brain. Really liked the disaster effects!

keely 2012-04-25 05:08

It was hard to get into the actual gameplay, but the aesthetics are absolutely wonderful and theme is well applied.

cakencode 2012-04-25 05:23

LOVE IT. I can't even begin to describe the gushiness I felt while playing. It was so addictive trying to balance my resources and deal with all of the natural disasters that ensued. I do wish you could click on the names of the disasters and see what happens, just so you can plan accordingly. The graphics were great, the sound was nice, and it fit the theme perfectly. Awesome job!

tcstyle 2012-04-25 05:57

This is an awesome game.
I found just one flaw. You could run out of ressources forever. If you wasted all your iron, you got stuck cause building iron mines needs iron again. This is something a game like this has to avoid.
I really liked the tile shifting at earthquakes.

schattenkind-net 2012-04-25 07:09

Consistent Artdesign! I don't like the menus but the game is well done! keep up good work

dx0ne 2012-04-25 09:07

There are only good things to say about that one. Since I'm sucker for board games I loved it from the start. It was little hard to get what's going on and what should I do, but once I got it I was like "Damn you earthquakes!" "wait waint VolcaNooooo". Definitely a 5/5

tifu 2012-04-25 09:28

This is a really great idea. After a few plays I realised that I didn't really need mana at all though, so long as your important buildings are protected, its not really a necessary resource. I suppose you could play with different tactic than mine though. Great art, catchy tune too :)

omarshehta 2012-04-25 11:49

Okay now this is the first game so far that I have given it an overall score of 5/5.

Let me start off by saying that, I usually *hate* games where you have to build stuff, resources and blah blah (like age of empires and all that) and I was skeptical about enjoying this game but the game is so awesome I think it made me start to love this genre!

This is my favourite game of the jam so far! I really loved how everything accelerated and it all fell into place once I got my resources handled well. And the concept of fighting against nature and not some tribe or war is incredible!

I also really loved how intuitive it all was. While it was actually rather complex with a lot of stuff to know, you could easily pick up all of that in a few seconds as you play.

Overall I really really loved this game, and you simply HAVE to make a full game out of this adding whatever else you intended and release it to the world!

rvmook 2012-04-25 11:50

Really enjoyed playing it. Would like to play an extended version of this

blackdogg 2012-04-25 19:36

Great game even if I think there is too much resources, which are not linked or makes really sense. Maybe it would have been better with a bit of simplification. But there is still a great result on graphics, music, mood, etc. Congrats !

castor 2012-04-25 22:00

Excellent game. Isometric view reminds me of Populous. Bravo.

po8rewq 2012-04-25 22:39

Really fun, great concept.

thotor 2012-04-26 00:03

Great game. Enjoyed it very much

strega 2012-04-26 00:15

Very polished! The art and music were fantastic. I wasn't really sure if there was something I should have been working towards or just surviving for as long as possible.

jigxor 2012-04-26 01:29

Very polished, great graphics. It was always funny to see what would be destroyed next by a disaster. I enjoyed this one :)

alwaysgeeky 2012-04-26 04:26

Nice graphics style, I like it :)

omaha 2012-04-26 04:42

Wonderful transitions, and the hover effect is just so satisfying. Love it.

zamando 2012-04-26 06:46

Really good, just a bit too easy. :)

jeroenimooo 2012-04-26 08:00

Love the graphics. real clean game. Really fun. easy difficulty was easy, and hard was hard. Well done!

marudziik 2012-04-26 09:04

Played it on all of the difficulties. The game's too easy - but other than that, there are no flaws. Looks beautiful, the idea is great, music is okay... Wow.

onehandclap 2012-04-26 10:22

A real wonder, can't even understand how you did this in such a short time. =)

derdragon 2012-04-26 12:50

Wow.

oddgoo 2012-04-26 12:52

Insane amount of polish for this short time! 5/5

shigor 2012-04-26 12:54

I'm amazed! All around one of the best games so far. Hope you'll be enhancing it more.

danvil 2012-04-26 13:22

One of the best LD entries I played so far! Found it a bit difficult to visually distinguish shrines and workplaces.

thotep 2012-04-26 14:26

Very well done!

unicornpooping 2012-04-26 15:24

Wow. Cool beans. Great job!

kimau 2012-04-26 19:06

Wow just wow massive hearts!

gabriel 2012-04-26 22:12

Love it! The board game visual is very charming, and it is a very well polished and well balanced entry! :)

sestren 2012-04-26 22:41

I really enjoyed the way generated tiles would shove out existing tiles at the edges. It added a layer of puzzle-solving to the game. :)

gritfish 2012-04-27 14:01

Really nice. Would have liked tooltips for the resources in the top-left. Also, I read "menu" to mean "open up an in-game menu or help", rather than "return to main menu".
The combination of pixel art and smooth animation looks really good. I could myself buying this on a touch device.

gornova 2012-04-27 14:43

I rate your game only 2 for fun and 4 for overall, because as you said in post-mortem you should left some time in playing it a little more, now enhance :D

kharza 2012-04-27 15:28

Very clean and fluid and pro for a 48 hour!

johannhat 2012-04-27 17:40

I really dug this! A bit confusing at first, but once I got in the groove, it was smooth sailing. The presentation was very nice and I was really glad to see descriptions of everything when they came up so I could see what was happening in a disaster. I would definitely love to see this expanded.

wyzfen 2012-04-27 19:44

Very polished. Would play well on a phone.

jeffz 2012-04-28 00:40

I think you've nailed it.

shackhal 2012-04-28 00:58

Cool game. I like it xD

jwolf 2012-04-28 00:59

Very solid and unique strategy / sim game.

vaelzan 2012-04-28 06:35

[Comments and ratings from this account come from various team members]
Amazing game, especially for the 48! Could do with a little tiny bit more gameplay and a little bit less random but other than that very well made and polished.

lidfrid 2012-04-28 08:38

Solid entry, i didn't enjoy the gameplay, but everything else!
And well done with the post-mortem idea!

mesene 2012-04-28 10:49

I love the way the tiles move, very nice game, can't belive its a 48h compo, good job.

ncannasse 2012-04-28 14:11

Nicely done, but would have love a different ending / scoring

zkenshin 2012-04-28 14:27

Loved it :)

01101101 2012-04-28 14:48

Great entry! The concept is really original and the execution is near perfect :)
Just two things: when you start the game, a screen explaining your goal (build the lvl3 city and lvl4 shrine) would be appreciated. It would avoid players having to read the help to figure out how to win. And a tooltip on the resources icons would be great too, just to know wich is wich.
Anyway, it's definitely one of the best entry I've played so far, great work! :)

angrygeometry 2012-04-28 16:08

this was wonderful, took a minute or two to understand but you've created an extremely polished and addictive game here. nice job!

whilefun 2012-04-28 19:03

this is great! :D

cyboot 2012-04-28 20:30

great graphics, good audio, fun game
very good Job! :)

pixelulsar 2012-04-28 20:53

Cool concept of natural disasters changing tiles. I also loved how the tile would rise up if you upgraded it. I would love to see what this could be if you continued to work on it.

miltage 2012-04-28 22:25

I loved the concept and the graphics, especially the tile roll over effect. Great job!

lukerissacher 2012-04-29 05:29

Nice! Really impressive for 48 hours, a fair bit of strategy there. Liked the graphics, music, etc. Would love to see it expanded with new missions.

kendja 2012-04-29 09:06

Great job! And I have saved the world!
The only one comment about resources - it's would be good, if "wood workplace" doesn't cost wood, the iron workplace does not required iron and i.e.

jonathang 2012-04-29 18:13

Cute little game! Couldn't figure out how to use manna to terraform until we'd already completed the game on hard mode; could have been better explained at the start. Not always easy to see where your buildings are either. But really good fun, and would definitely play again!

robcozzens 2012-04-29 18:47

Wow! That is really great!

christinaneofotistou 2012-04-30 01:02

Amazing game! Kept me busy for a good hour first time I played! Reminds me fondly of populous. Cute graphics too!

angelk 2012-04-30 04:16

This game has everything, a great idea with fantastic amount of polish, solid gameplay and lovely graphics with a nice soundtrack. Simply the best game I've seen yet.

23 2012-04-30 05:09

That was fun! I never would have guessed the graphics were made in a hurry - it looks good and plays smooth.

bubuiic 2012-04-30 15:42

Pretty much perfect! Incredible work for 48 hours!

matheus23 2012-04-30 16:42

Amazing graphics. Really good, you created that in 48h!!!

Strange end of the game for me:

I just built a shrine on top of a wood tile, upgraded it, and suddenly I won...

graytest 2012-04-30 17:10

This is well made and quite fun for a while. I didn't really feel challenged though and it lost a bit of the fun as I kept playing. Good game though!

triplevisiongames 2012-04-30 20:19

argh I got too excited and made a terrible world! Better on the 2nd go. Really good game and well realised for such a short time

blob 2012-04-30 20:25

Interesting and fun concept. I dont like however that once you run out of ressource you re pretty much stuck forever. A very very low income on any ressource, maybe from a cheap or free building would have been better IMO.

someguy22 2012-04-30 21:31

Cool! Like the ambiance and feel, but I think you should be able to build more things on the blocks, like factories or power sources. With some additions, this could be a really cool web game!

frederickk 2012-05-01 01:24

Incredible!

mildmojo 2012-05-01 05:28

I had to restart a couple of times when I ran out of a resource (without which I couldn't build a workplace to get more of that resource). Once I figured everything out, the hard difficulty was the most interesting and still completely winnable.

I really like the 2.5D tiles and the terraforming-through-sliding mechanism. It was like a distilled version of plate tectonics.

It was a little hard to see the workplaces and shrines in denser areas, forests particularly. It was also a little difficult to tell the levels of workplaces and shrines apart.

By chance, was this inspired by the board game Taluva? Very similar concepts. You're forming a landscape by placing mountain, desert, lake, forest, and grass tiles, building huts (cities) and placing shrines, and there are occasional volcanic eruptions...

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/24508/taluva

vilborg 2012-05-01 06:42

Awesome game! I don't have any specific criticism.

volute 2012-05-01 12:16

Thank you everyone for the nice comments ! I'm very happy so many of you enjoyed the game :D

@mildmojo : No, Tinysasters wasn't inspired by Taluva. To be honest, that's the first time I hear about this game ! The idea behind Tinysasters was to make something between the boardgames Settlers of Catan and Labyrinth.

mrdanh 2012-05-01 12:49

A cool little puzzle game, although I didn't need to use the terraforming abilities much (even on hard) which was a shame (how they shift tiles around could lead to some interesting strategies). A turn-based version of this game might be interesting so player's can plan their strategy at a more relaxed pace

tentontoon 2012-05-01 15:30

Very nice strategy game! It feels a little bit overwhelming at first, with all the structures and resources at your disposal. But after playing for a couple minutes, everything falls into place. That's probably its strongest feature, but also its main weakness, as you end up worrying about a small subset of it all after a couple play-throughs.
Kudos for the movement of the tiles and the briliant effects of the disasters.

Congratulations! :)

datamosh 2012-05-02 00:02

Wow! Awesome game, stunning pixelart! A solid, complete, good and entertaining game. A tutorial at first, or progressive learning about the different elements would've been perfect, since at first glance they look like a lot of information all of the sudden :)

chambers 2012-05-02 01:47

Though I loved the overall looks and polish, I found the gameplay hard to understand, since there's a lot of information and a lot of pressure to make decisions quickly.

deejorg 2012-05-02 02:14

Awsome Game! All of the aspects work really well together.
Congrats!

oye-beto 2012-05-02 07:36

Very good game.
Once I understood it I enjoyed it and played every difficulty :)

- I didn't get it at first glance but then I slowly started to understand it. After the 1st time I won, my actions became systematic, which makes me think it's not a game to play for a long time.

- Art is pretty good. I like how the cubes slide when the mouse is over and when there's a natural disaster. Also the glow on the selected cube is a nice detail.

- Music is very well done, it's perfect for a relaxed mood and I enjoyed listening to it.

ratboy2713 2012-05-02 15:20

Got stuck because I accidentally spent all my iron, and there is no way to get iron without spending some. Balance issue?

amodo 2012-05-02 16:17

Amazing how complex a game you made in 48h! At first I thought, this is too complex, but then I understood it in 20 seconds. Victory came too soon :( Really great entry!

ratking 2012-05-02 22:30

Wow, this is highliy polished! It's just fun to place all the stuff and see the random disasters.Like the game very much!

vdogamez 2012-05-03 03:44

Oh, wow, I really like this. It's a really original idea, and the game has a lot of polish. The only criticism I have is that it's a bit too easy if you start off placing enough workplaces, which led to me finishing hard mode far faster than easy mode. The game's very pretty, and a lot of fun.

adventureislands 2012-05-03 17:41

Really nice game, it took some time to really understand what was going on, but I really enjoyed this, nice graphics, music and gameplay. Excellent job!

madball 2012-05-04 11:05

Those tile-shifting effects were super cool! My favourite entry so far!

pierrec 2012-05-04 15:20

One of the greatest entries!

nornagon 2012-05-05 08:08

Gorgeous :)

lanoiadimuu 2012-05-05 15:50

Really polished for a 48h entry. :)
The only bad point i noticed: The volume difference between audio clips and background music was way too high.

make-a-game 2012-05-05 23:11

This is one of the most impressive and polished entries I've seen so far! Cool game and good feedback!

mrho 2012-05-06 10:23

Very enjoyable. Your art is also very nice.

pinothefrog 2012-05-06 15:13

Great, short. Can screw yourself with your first few choices. Glad a gave it a second chance and read the instructions more carefully. Maybe there should be an option to destroy and rebuild structures.

hume 2012-05-06 16:50

Definitely fun. There's an art to replacing desert tiles that I didn't quite master, but I beat the game anyway.

Possible improvements: more feedback on radius of protection for shrines; spreading disasters.

I rated this pretty highly, FYI.

badlydrawnrod 2012-05-06 17:09

Liked it.

ghribacki 2012-05-06 19:41

Took me a while to get the hang of things, but then it was all love! Won at easy and tried the hard, but ran out of water and lost my only water workplace... I wonder if there is any way to get past that in game or I should start all over.

Good work! Amongst my LD favorites already. =)

pixel_3 2012-05-06 23:58

One of the best games I've played thus far. A little overwhelming at first but once I got the hang of it, it was quit enjoyable.

-AlucardX60

thegreystudios 2012-05-07 05:09

Really well done! :)
In the first run of the game I was a little bit confused what to do but still won :D
Maybe a better help text would solve this. Anyway after the second round I really started to like it alot. :)
I hope this gets a follow up after LD. :) (different settings for example -> lava world, desert world etc)

dr-pingu 2012-05-07 15:36

This game is really good.
Graphics are very nice and clean. The overall is coherent and the game mechanism are well executed : thank you for this game :D

justinmullin 2012-05-07 18:05

Awesome. I love the well thought out, consistent (but still a bit unpredictable) disasters - there's randomness, but it's randomness you can plan for a bit. Beautiful art, fun to play.

My only complaint is there are a lot of clicks to do most things...I'm not sure if the answer is hotkeys, or a more streamlined UI, but it felt a bit clunky to build workplaces, etc.

Overall, though, very very nicely done!

bombom 2012-05-08 09:36

Awesome GUI! You are definitly talented artist!

julianspillane 2012-05-08 18:27

A really fun game that took me back to the Bullfrog-era of god games. Wonderful job!

jimmypaulin 2012-05-08 19:18

Really amazing to put this together in the timeframe, nice one ;) Superbly executed game, really coherent and with a clear direction. I found it a bit difficult to get into but I liked the way the disasters described what they were going to do so you didn't feel the game was cheating you. I couldn't work out how to generate the grey material (steel/rock?) so I had to give up after a while. Perhaps a tooltip if you hover the mouse over the resource "steel, created by XXX" would help? Or perhaps serendipitous events like a mineral-rich meteor strike? Really good work, thank you

mrbarnslig 2012-05-09 05:11

Great music, great looks and animations, good design, high marks all around! I really like it - I think that the long term goals and progression could use a bit of work, but it's really fun. Nice job!

ddrkirbyisq 2012-05-09 13:36

Nice job! Needs a tutorial or something else to ramp up the difficulty, but this is LD so I'll certainly let that slide. :)

gremlin 2012-05-09 17:51

Clever little puzzle game. A little on the easy side once you figure out the basic mechanics: there's not a lot of important decision making in the late game.

character 2012-05-10 03:50

Wowie! Fun game! Another 5 star game =)

I like this sort of square corner worldview. It's really cute and the idea of knowing what disaster is coming when is something I've not seen before. Good submission!

Le concept peut paraitre difficile mais on saisit le truc vite fait. Le jeu et les graphismes sont tres sympa, ça manque peut-etre d'un objectif plus motivant.

Really fun game. Unique gameplay, visuals and sounds fit together well. Great job.

Awesome puzzle game, really innovative! I won at normal at the first try and had lot of fun! :)

Cool game! I played on hard but it didn't seem that hard to get a level 4 shrine though. Good job!

Very nice, very polished. Lovely art, great mechanics. Thumbs up!

I like resource management games generally, this was right up my street.

I felt like the shrine mana/generate aspect was not quite as intuitive as I'd hoped. (Eg. I turned a desert into a grassland and 4 deserts appeared around the grassland.) I wasn't quite sure what (benefit) it added to the game.

Overall though, a very solid game experience. Great job!

cool concept, fluid gameplay, sometimes a little hard to tell what was going to happen. A little easy though if you just constantly cover the map in workplaces then put in a few cities quickly at the end.

This was really fun! I'm trying to come up with something nobody else said yet, but you did a great job. It would be cool to see bigger levels and different kinds of natural disaster, but this is a perfect start. Great job.

Awesome game. Feels very polished - specially details such as raising the action tile. The gameplay idea is also really original.

The only thing that feels a bit weird is that when you spend mana to create a certain kind of tile, you are actually creating more of the original tile instead - so you can spend "mountain" mana to create lakes by creating a mountain at a lake.

Awesome game!

A-W-E-SO-M-E. Nothing else to say.

Very good all around! The graphics and event animations are great. The music is just right. The gameplay is reasonably fun, though I felt like it ended too early on my playthrough. Maybe just because I was on Easy mode. :) Though it wasn't too hard to figure out, more cues in-game to help you understand what buildings produce what resources would have improved my experience.

I would have cut down on some of the complexity of the game mechanics. There is a fairly large option tree which made it hard to initially make gameplay decisions. Mana in particular seemed fairly useless and often counterproductive. Overall though it is a solidly crafted experience.

This is a lot of fun! Will this be extended into a fuller game later still?
