LD21 — Escape

Victory by refrag 2011-08-24T02:23:00

Very slick looking. It may have taken too long to show the player new gameplay after the opening bit. I did like playing it and the pills were a neat twist. I do wonder if there are multiple endings, but I didn't want to repeat it all in one go again. Maybe if there were a way to restart midway through, or even play per-level, I'd try again.

Nice work! Very complete feeling.

Reach For It by Noel Berry 2011-08-25T04:54:00

Very nice! Very polished gameplay and some excellent level design. I especially liked the forced run down a long hallway with the pink stomping block close behind. Music would definitely help, but I got through in 8 minutes and had a blast the whole time :).

Hotel Escape by pgil 2011-08-23T20:13:00

Frustrating but I kept playing to the end. It was pretty great to have spectators for. Thanks for this :).

Ceaseless by the31 2011-08-24T01:50:00

Really fun, but easy mode may be a little too easy. I had a blast in hard mode! I do wish that you'd just picked a control scheme for the player rather than asking them all of that up front. The mouse was my personal favorite because the feel meshed well with the radar-ish graphics. I like the clean look of the game, too :).

Escape by TimBeaudet 2011-08-25T04:15:00

The vector graphics would look a lot slicker if the lines were more similar in their fidelity and/or size, methinks. The blue lines end up looking very tiny compared to the level, and the red and green lines look fuzzy in comparison.

I feel like this would really benefit from a wide screen perspective. The physics make a big difference for this game compared to others of the genre, but things got moving fast quickly enough that the difference seemed nigh unnoticeable fairly quickly.

It's a good idea, though! Maybe just work on the level and player vision so it makes the user think about and use the unique physics rather than just hope that the next bend's randomly going to be big enough to survive.

Maze++ by RandomM00 2011-08-23T20:02:00

I agree with others, the lighting was really slick looking. I also liked the humor/honesty on the ending :). It could've used a less shrill beep noise, but nice work!

The great escape of Dr. Diabito! by klobb 2011-08-25T04:22:00

I like the Asteroids-style + mouse aim controls, but the game itself seems winnable by simply going slow and waiting for missiles to recharge. I had fun trying to go as fast as I could, but it would be nice if you could force the player to do that. A wall of fire, while generic, might do the trick. He is running from an exploding earth, after all.

BRITAIN:2027 by Sophie Houlden 2011-08-24T01:40:00

Nicely done! That's quite a bit of Unity work to crank out in three days, and it really fits the theme perfectly. The slippery water may be a liiittle too powerful, but I imagine that more enemies and more complicated levels could change that. I'll keep an eye out for future releases of this.

NO ESCAPE by jukimv1986 2011-08-25T04:28:00

Nice work for twelve hours! I did think it was cool how close/frustrated I felt when the beeping was fast and I couldn't find the exit sometimes. The warping of the player's version as he turned made things feel disturbingly non-euclidean and helped the general vibe.

That said, it was a frustrating experience and the beeping really got to me. I'm very impressed with the implementation and it does a good job of conveying what you were going for, though.

Escape by Mahtiti 2011-08-24T01:30:00

Well done, and nice music choice! The basic mechanic is cool and fits well with the theme. I did hope for it to get more frantic, though. It felt like a gradual encroachment by the lava got me in the end rather than anything especially threatening.

Boingo's Escape by G4JC 2011-08-25T05:05:00

The intro music was definitely way cooler than the music that played during the actual game. It's cool that you made all the different level graphics, but I doubt many people will get a chance to see it all. It may have been a little too leet to fit, but that made it pretty hilarious to me :).

Stopping entirely if you touch a rock from the side made it very hard to get anywhere with this game, especially when coupled with the very high and (as far as I could tell) non-variable jump height. It also felt a little slow, which may be accurate for a sheep, but made things seem all the more frustrating when you got stuck on a rock and died after floatily landing on it from a high jump.

Don't ESCape by Urfoex 2011-08-24T02:00:00

The first level was pretty frustrating for me. Moving my mouse out of the green box would immediately restart it for me so I left it there, but then the second I moved the ball I'd flash back, as well? I guessed that I was supposed to stay out of the green with the ball, but I don't feel like I figure out what was going on.

Perhaps more instruction for the player? I didn't want to just give up on your work here but I got frustrated and stuck almost immediately.

AWAYGET by mklee 2011-08-24T19:54:00

Cool idea for a game and neat gameplay, but I wasn't a fan of how the second level's super hard just because of enemies spawning out of the building at (so far as I can tell) unpredictable times.

I can see this concept being expanded on pretty effectively. More hazards/objects to shoot, reasons to jump, etc. Nice work.

LD22 — Alone

KITTENS the Great by splixel 2011-12-20T01:41:00

I laughed aloud at your writing about kittens being voted against. I was pretty sad that kittens didn't win.

Great pixel art and nice humor. I think some music and sounds really would've helped you out, especially with the board game format.

I wasn't too sure about the win conditions of the game. Getting in a few fights and winning them seemed to be all that was necessary, but it was definitely a surprise to me when I did win. A single player board game's kind of odd to play in general. The board branching as much as it does helps that to an extent.

Also: I was able to get 4 billion catnip by losing 1000. Some good ol' unsigned int wrapping seems to've happened.

A Lonely Moon by TyrusPeace 2011-12-19T07:03:00

There's an "end" that says "Teleporting home...", but then I respawn the player at the beginning of the level because I didn't have time for a proper ending cinematic and also because it seemed like it'd be fun to restart the level with dash.

Someone Was Here by bushmango 2011-12-22T06:20:00

I wrote "peeeee" in the snow. I do wish there was more to do. Neatly done, though. I like seeing an HTML-based game that's actually still mostly text :). I liked the naming joke.

Alone Creature by DSidhion 2011-12-22T06:03:00

The platforming was definitely rough when I was trying to climb up onto the tree; enough so that I only got three endings because I didn't want to keep clambering up there.

I do like the platforming + adventure gameplay, though. I wish the interactions with the characters were less binary (I hate you, thanks for helping me), but the platforming's a neat way to pull the player more into the game.

Metamorphosis by JulioMarcos 2011-12-20T01:54:00

Something telling the player that junk food = more time and healthy food = -time would make your game much less frustrating for first time players. I made it through easy, medium and hard once I figured that out, but I was pretty baffled until then.

The text quoting Kafka at the bottom doesn't seem to cover very much of Metamorphosis, and it seemed kind of strange in game. I do find it hilarious in your screenshot though :D.

LD23 — Tiny World

The Good Ship Higgs Boson by Jezzamon 2012-04-25T06:15:00

Really cool and well done gameplay mechanic! I only wish there were more of it. The puzzles you did have had a very good balance of requiring experimentation without being annoying/repetitive, though.

Very nice work!

Electron Cloud by Evilion 2012-05-09T20:00:00

It's tough to control given that the entire control scheme seems to be based on moving the cursor quickly and trying to click electrons before your character catches up with the cursor, but that does lend a nice feel to the whole electron stealing process.

Funny intro, and the gameplay's amusingly fast, if imprecise. Nice work :).

Too Big For This World by Hallway 2012-04-24T01:55:00

I had a lot of fun with this! It's admittedly a bit clunky and death seems like an eventuality rather than a failure, but at some point while I was kicking my 20th swordsman in a row I realized I was really enjoying myself :).

Nice work!

Nano Strike by Qaterknan 2012-04-24T02:40:00

The music definitely got to me a while and the camera was hard to deal with as it moved so much while I was trying to click on the menu. It was a cool idea and I kinda figured things out after a while, but I had a hard time with this. Maybe with more time you can introduce the player to the concepts more clearly :).

Tinysasters by Volute 2012-04-23T19:43:00

I liked this quite a bit! The sounds were great and the gameplay was fun. It was hard to figure out what was going on, though. It took me a little while to figure out that buildings do different things depending on where you put them, for example.

In hindsight it was an obvious thing to try, but by the time I thought to in my first game I was out of a resource necessary to do so. Nice work, though! I really like this.

Pocket Strife by josefnpat 2012-04-23T19:58:00

I think the controls might be easier to handle if you didn't hide the cursor; looking for the highlighted square proved awkward in the grid.

I like this concept a lot, it's really slick! The bot seems to own most of the map, and expanding is kind of awkward since it's mostly a click war to build more pyramids. That's part of the "casual" appeal so many reviewers are saying they like, though. It's definitely a unique and well done concept. Nice work!

Perhaps a more achievable victory scenario for the start would help me want to play this more, but as is I've played it longer than most games I reviewed today :).

Soul Searchin' by MaximSchoemaker 2012-05-13T23:11:00

Really slick, and a great implementation of the tiny world theme! I was a bit frustrated by touchy controls at times. I'm not sure if the intent was to switch sizes mid-jump to make landing on small things easier, but that was the strategy I settled on. It's a bit disorienting and difficult, but things got better for me once I was used to that.

Fun finish, too :).

Copulous by keely 2012-04-25T01:19:00

The music is pretty awesome, especially with only one synth.

I've been following rage pixel posts on reddit occasionally but will definitely have to check it out more seriously after seeing this; it's awesome :).

Fun, simple concept and great execution. It took me a while to get used to the "no diagonals" controls but it makes sense in the end. Nicely done!

World Panic! by pinkmonkeyhead 2012-04-25T06:07:00

Hey, that music was pretty boss. Venus was entrancing, and yes, very hard :).

The Sheep Are Sinking by Gremlin 2012-05-09T19:45:00

A neat game with good usage of terrain deformation, I just wish the sheep were a bit smarter. There were a good few times where I nudged all around and they'd stay stubbornly stuck on a particular bit of sand until I raised the terrain right under them. It was definitely a solvable problem, I just wish it wasn't one in the first place :).

Microscopia by azurenimbus 2012-05-13T04:26:00

I really like that the game ends with "Awesome." :P.

The central mechanic is cool and unique and the visuals and audio work really well with it, but I agree with other users that it can feel like a chore at times. I really like the music; hopefully garageband samples are allowed.

Space Dozer by desmarkie 2012-05-09T19:06:00

Slick and fun! Slimplistic sounds and some music would clearly help things, but it's very fun to play. I was very tempted to just zoom around the surface of the planet mashing the fire button as fast as possible, which would get me killed if I did it for the whole game but serves as a nice way to get big combo scores at first.

I was a little disoriented and things seemed ridiculously fast at times, but that's part of the fun, too. Having so much of the game be handling momentum and speed remind me of asteroids, although I'll admit aiming got awkward/difficult feeling at times.

Little World Adventure by firstrowgames 2012-04-25T05:14:00

I like the music quite a bit. Too bad you didn't have time to finish :).

On Another Scale by Christian S. 2012-05-09T19:54:00

Really impressive ambience! The music does a great job of setting the mood here, and I legitimately enjoyed it all the way through. Wandering across the narrow bridge felt a bit slow, but there was enough to look at that I enjoyed myself.

I really like the somewhat odd look of the world. Fading off into neon blue fog to the horizon really helps the alien feel of the world.

The twisters/player biggening powerups were a bit confusing to me at first as I thought they were launching me into the air. I really liked being up that high, though. Great world and great feeling under a time limit. Well done!

Delirium by Puccini 2012-05-09T19:28:00

Nice concept! The controls were a bit touchy, especially when turning around in narrow spaces, which made the second level a bit frustrating. Great work for 48 hours, though :). I'm interested to see where you can take this concept!

Cruel space by Stalker_23b 2012-05-11T02:10:00

Nice graphics! I'm a little unsure of how well the pixely texture works wrapped aroudn those trees, but the DOF and shadows look really nice with the pixelated grass. The walking animations on the characters can be pretty distracting, and I had difficulties shooting enemies until they were right next to me (even with the bullet speed upgrade).

Nice work, though! The level transitions are really nice looking and the sounds work well.

Tiny War by VDOgamez 2012-04-23T19:33:00

The simplicity of the graphics does you some favors with this concept, imo. Keeping things clean really helped me figure out what was going on.

It took me a while to get that you could click and drag across multiple planets to send troops from more than one planet at once. At that point it made a lot more sense to me as a game :). I like the concept but wish it was easier to predict what will happen when I mouse up. I've accidentally abandoned planets pretty often. That said, the simplicity of the controls is a big bonus so maybe it's a good tradeoff.

Does the game get harder as levels progress or just generate a new system each time? The challenge seems to be somewhat random, rather than progressing.

Atom Planet by NMcCoy 2012-04-25T05:32:00

It may be that I was unable to discern much of what was necessary to do the things you suggested in the description, but I did throw the moon into a volcano, so this is more or less the best thing ever.

Great sounds, too!

Memento XII by deepnight 2012-04-25T01:52:00

Very good! I struggled in a few spots with whether to use/pick up/open things, but such is the way of SCUMM :). You probably could have gotten away with less options for that kinda thing, though. Look at/Use/Remember were probably all you needed in most situations.

Adventure games aren't really my thing but I'm glad I made it through this. I'm very impressed to see something so emotive done with this kind of time limit.

This Town (ABEFTTOU) by ThatSnail 2012-04-24T02:11:00

I couldn't figure out a way to catch consistently up with my enemy as both energy and research seemed to slow me down. The doodly style was neat and I can see this working with some bug fixes. Keep trying :)!

My Little Planetoid by matthias_zarzecki 2012-05-10T19:08:00

The music certainly helps, but there's less game for the player here and more just watching the things you made build up to each other. That said, I enjoyed watching those things and I wanted to see what'd come next.

The bug where you can accidentally "fill" the moon with something besides a moonbase got me good my first time through, but this was a thoroughly pleasant experience, otherwise.

Head Trauma by drZool 2012-05-10T19:58:00

I agree with others that the lighting style for the levels was disorienting and somewhat nauseating. I really like the splodey-splash death for the enemies, though, and the zooming into the next level effect at the end was neat. I do wish that factored more into the gameplay, but it's a cool effect.

Tiny World Defense by egerlach 2012-05-11T01:30:00

Cool idea, but it did feel a bit clunk at times. It'd help if the ship rotated more smoothly. Besides that, I really wish that the powerups would say what they did in game so I didn't have to memorize them all up front, but that's the kinda thing that'd easily be fixed with more than 48 hours ;).

Aloft by Mark Ffrench 2012-05-11T01:58:00

I liked having to catch things and the poke-based controls were fun, but maybe having the cursor be a fatter point would work better. That'd work much better on a touch device, actually (I played on PC).

I like the clean polygonal style; it really pops with the smoke effects, those are nice :).

Subatomica by SFBTom 2012-04-24T02:34:00

Hard to handle but fun. Nice work! It's hard to think of a faster control solution that wouldn't just be binary with the inputs. Maybe making the controls take up less of the screen would keep people from mousing out entirely on accident?

Mostly my difficulties seemed to stem from how hard it is to handle the timing with these fast moving particles. Very pretty and fun to play with, though. It's the kind of thing I could do for a very long time with the right sort of music.

Cool concept, nice execution :).

Tiny World - God Mode Edition by Shackelford 2012-04-25T05:50:00

The achievements were really an amusing touch. I wish it was more obvious when I lost, though. I had 0 god power at some point and couldn't make anything happen. My fix was just to restart the game.

The music definitely grew on me and the humor's pretty great in parts. "You like UFOs? How about five??" It could use a little work to make some gameplay aspects more obvious but I really liked this :).

Pale Blue Dot by KevinWorkman 2012-04-24T01:45:00

Thanks for making me listen to A Pale Blue Dot again :).

The game's a bit frustrating because of how little you can see, but that's also the main gameplay hook. The sounds are kinda rough and I feel like I started ping ponging between different celestial bodies a little too easily sometimes. I think that having the "character" move around rather the scene rather than stay centered in the view the whole time would make things easier.

An Imperative Journey by RichMakeGame 2012-04-25T06:24:00

Very nice graphical style and pleasant music, but I do wish there was more to do than carry things from place to place. Regardless, this is nicely done and an impressive first product with Unity.

I've been meaning to check out Pineapple Smash Crew for a while now :).

Tiny Tim's Race World by pythong 2012-05-09T19:38:00

Seeing other people's data was cool, but a lot of times other players wouldn't even jump and they'd still survive some hearty dog contact. I imagine there's some kinda bug with it, but I'm still quite impressed that you got that feature in the game on such a time limit. This kinda asynchronous, cumulative multiplayer is a great idea for LD :).

Rocket Boat by RHY3756547 2012-04-23T19:49:00

The score/HUD might be a bit much, but the game looks great! The gameplay's pretty fun, but I don't feel very much in control during jumps, which makes getting stuck pretty frustrating. The fact that your movement affects your shots makes aiming pretty tough, too.

The music, sound and mood are also great fun. Well done, overall :).

shiprage by AirRider3 2012-05-09T19:23:00

I really like the clean look.

I unfortunately didn't get a very good feel for the gameplay; locking on proved awkward at first, as did shooting. I think your planned onscreen indicators for those things would definitely improve this.

I never got a very good feel for how to dodge bullets/effectively dogfight. It does seem like there are consistent rules and the simplicity will probably aid me in figuring that out eventually. The sounds are also pleasant and well done. This whole thing looks/feels very slick.

Mineral Cities by Gareth Jenkins 2012-05-10T19:48:00

I remember being intrigued by your dev posts. This is really good! The simple, clean graphics work very well with the fancy DOF/shadows, and the music works great with the gameplay. It gradually dawned on me that I was playing something pretty mindless, but I was VERY into it any way!

I have a suspicion the game balance won't hold up to scrutiny, and accidentally putting down hills instead of cities was enough of a tragedy that I realized I was really enjoying the game. It'd be nice to have less touchy/reversible controls + an easier way to tell where you can plant things.

Nice work!

Micro World by Oye Beto 2012-04-25T05:17:00

The music was unexpectedly rad. Clean and surprisingly fun given the simplicity. I was a bit surprised that the green lines didn't seem to matter for gameplay at all, but that didn't actually make the game any harder for me to play. Nice work.

A day in your Life by superstu 2012-04-24T02:21:00

The time limits put on the player make this a frustrating exercise in repetition rather than an exploration game. I couldn't consistently get the seeds to grow, either. I was a bit confused by that.

I almost made it to the top of the ice ladder at the end, but froze and then couldn't get my seeds to grow again, so I starved repeatedly after that :'(. You kept me wanting to play, but I couldn't quite make it to the end. Good atmosphere, and a solid execution of the theme.

Invasion Of Tiny World by gregdevice 2012-04-25T06:41:00

Solid concept and execution; I just wish I felt more in control of my own fate here. I saw numbers pop up when I got shot and more pop up when I stomped on things, but didn't have an idea of the total and what they affected.

I died after clicking to try and get my legs as far apart as possible. is that a possible way to die or did I just get shot to death? I'd be very amused if it was possible to stretch my bot to death :).

Macronauts, Go! by wgemigh 2012-05-09T19:17:00

Cool concept, I just wish the gameplay moved faster. Perhaps making it more obvious whose turn it was would also make it easier to allow the user to just click to skip ahead to their turn.

Trucking the Universe by FrozenCow 2012-04-24T02:02:00

It definitely took me a while to figure out that the jump went straight off the planet rather than following any angle, but once I got that it was pretty playable. The graphics could be modified a bit to make it more obvious, I suppose.

Running from the monster was definitely cool. There were times I felt like I was unavoidably stuck, but I kept playing until I beat it. Nice work :).

The Last Colony by Wyzfen 2012-05-10T19:52:00

It was a bit too hard to figure out the paths for the enemies, but I realized that didn't matter too much since they'd just start orbiting anyhow.

Nice work for 48 hours! This is definitely a good start for something if you're interested in taking it further; I'd just be a bit worried about the motion sickness issues some others have brought up in this case.

Panopticon by kakuremino 2012-04-24T01:50:00

Good visual style and atmosphere, but walking around waiting to turn into a question mark got a bit tiring for me. Maybe some kind of mouse control would have made things snappier?

Controlling by aeveis 2012-04-25T06:04:00

Very neat concept, but I agree that the clicking became a bit of a chore by the end, possibly aggravated by how small the game itself was to some extent :).

Well executed, unique game concept with a surprisingly intriguing story. Clapping! I am clapping.

LD25 — You are the Villain

Tinysoft 2 by wurstknifte 2012-12-31T00:23:00

The command line bit was kinda neat but I can see why people were confused.

I feel like this needed faster/controllable text and smoother movement controls to feel responsive enough to not frustrate the player.

The intense guilt-tripping in the dialog just made me feel sad, not villainous.

Keep making games :)!

Bad Puppy by csanyk 2012-12-22T07:14:00

Bahaha I liked this quite a bit. Running my puppy through the gauntlet of pettin's was surprisingly exciting and fun.

Doctor Spandex by Cássio Eduardo 2012-12-21T21:29:00

Wow, this is really high quality! Great work, guys!

This has very good gameplay! Sweet arcade stealth with an amusing number of moves that are all meaningfully different from each other.

I get the retro style, but it's kind of slow feeling to replay a level in a stealth game to get to the next level again after you lose.

Villainous! by gritfish 2012-12-22T07:22:00

The movement is a bit too slow, which makes the controls overall pretty frustrating, but I do really like how you made this concept into a speedy action puzzler :).

Nice graphics and style! Some sounds really would have helped, and perhaps making the spawn points of the start/end of the track non-random would have helped, too. You could start them near each other the first time and further apart for subsequent "levels".

Well done!

Misadventures of Dr. Bardo by PIXEL^3 2012-12-22T07:45:00

Bahaha, I've just realized that platformer-where-the-dungeon-master-insults-you is pretty much a staple of LD now. This is very well done. Good jokes, nice art. The music's a bit more repetitive than I'd like, though.

I agree with other reviews that the razor bots holding up the blocks were far more difficult than the things preceding them.

Cool ideas and good implementation, though!

You Are The Invader by juaxix 2012-12-21T19:33:00

The enemies fly by fast enough that it seems tough to do much against them, but the pace of the game itself is kinda slow, since there's rarely more than one enemy/planet on the screen at once and it takes a while to hit stuff.

Cool idea and very impressive for 48 hours, though!

Heist by 64Mega 2012-12-22T07:31:00

I've judged a good few stealth games for this theme, but this is my favorite by far! You pretty much nailed arcade stealth mechanics in a way that doesn't make the player too powerful but really makes you feel in control.

Very responsive, fun, and funny. Nicely done!

My Little Terrorist by tomc 2012-12-21T22:27:00

Surprisingly good "management sim" gameplay. Ran out of things to do rather quickly, but the last job was a pretty comical one!

Nicely done.

Dig for Me by Logan 2012-12-22T07:10:00

The controls are a bit clunky, but not so much so that it detracts from the game in a way that doesn't feel retro ;P.

It's a little too easy to permanently block yourself off from the rest of the excavation site by placing monsters in a spot where they can all wander down into the same pit. Perhaps if there were an obvious way to remove your monsters?

Still very cool and fun to watch, as well as play :).

Alien Cow Kidnapper 2 by michax 2012-12-22T08:09:00

Cownapping seems to be a pretty popular topic!

Nice graphics! I wish there was a way to dodge the gun-shooting enemies. As is it just seems to turn into a "take hits until it's too risky, go get some cows, come back and finish the job" pattern that takes a bit too little skill. That said, the missiles are fun to dodge!

Kill the Hero by rodrigomotta 2012-12-21T19:02:00

Very nice art and good execution on the theme, but I couldn't manage to drag/drop items most of the time and so I couldn't beat the first level... most of the time I dragged something out there it would either stay in my hand or return to the toolbar (Chrome, Win7).

Fetch Quest by sclark39 2012-12-22T08:36:00

I really like the treasure burying mechanic! Having the high score be directly in conflict with your survival is pretty amusing, too, and I appreciate businessgoat's investment advice.

I had a hard time getting used to the double-right-click-to-deselect controls and I still lose a lot of baddies inadvertently by running them into the hero.

Cool concept and pretty solid implementation, though!

Battleship Texas by Yngar 2012-12-21T21:49:00

This is pretty fabulous. It just kept on getting crazier, AND there were several different types of gameplay jammed in here somehow. Nice work :)! The gameplay was admittedly basic, but I had a disturbing amount of fun piloting Battleship Texas and a good laugh to top it off.

Bag a Bride by Wuhao 2012-12-31T00:14:00

I like the hilarity that the physics rollin' and bonkin' added to the concept. Nice work! It seemed a bit buggy at points as the rope connecting the player and the bag didn't render reliably and I had a couple bags being reeled in at once a few times.

That ended up looking even more hilarious :P.

Sicarius by TeamQuadratic 2012-12-22T04:24:00

The kill range on the weapon is very strange, and it's non-obvious that it results in the guards attacking you. My main issue was the collision detection with the level itself, though. There were a few spots that seemed to be invisible walls.

This is still a cool stealth game, though! With a bit more speed and more obvious mechanics (like a dashing stab so that there's a bigger range and more obvious reason to be noticed, for example) I can see it being a cool arcade experience.

Nice gameplay and art, overall!

The Launch by DTG 2012-12-20T19:52:00

Lounge music with evil muhahas as the hook: amazing.

I like the PIP of the hero's point of view, it's pretty sweet! It seems like my henchman got stuck after killing the hero, and I wasn't particularly effective with the other traps.

Very cool idea, though! Perhaps more obvious controls would help folks figure it out faster and have more fun with it.

SpaceGreed by lotusgame 2012-12-21T21:41:00

It's a little too easy to beat enemy levels, even when they have a lot of stuff in them, but this is a really cool idea!

I'll be sure to check out the post compo version. Well done!

Lord Evil's Daring Escape by Cryovat 2012-12-21T19:06:00

Like a few other folks here said, the movement, especially the jumping, feels a lot slower than it could be.

Good game, though! I really enjoyed the humor in the jumping hazards.

Defend Your Treasure by tobbez 2012-12-21T19:44:00

This is great fun! At first I was making money fast enough that I thought things cost a negative amount of money... but burning all of my gold on dozens of rolling rocks taught me better :)

Once I've got a ton of rolling rocks the game pretty much can't be lost until the gradually scaling flood of adventurers becomes entirely insurmountable. High marks any way! I really like this. Well executed, super fun. With some more game balance, or perhaps goals/waves/levels I can see this being a great game, not just a great jam game :)!

who wants to be a super villain by madpew 2012-12-21T20:49:00

The music was unexpectedly fantastic.

Evil kitten-kidnapping pirates - from SPACE by Tommislav 2012-12-21T21:17:00

I like the shop! Upgrading almost seems like a bad thing because of how easy it becomes to kill cats on accident when you shoot more bullets, though.

Nice art :)!

Goat Factory by nilstastic 2012-12-21T21:05:00

I do wish it was possible to spawn more goats without resetting all tiles... it makes finding the solution to each level less iterative than it could be, and slower, too.

Good music and a nice clean art style! Very nice work :)!

Hell Guy Hells It Up by TyrusPeace 2012-12-18T05:39:00

Oh dang! I didn't notice because I got too fast at it! I just wrapped up a bug fix that kept the the application from exiting when you hit the escape key (instead of just sitting there and laughing at you when you're in fullscreen), so I fixed the music loop bug, too, since it was a super simple mistake :).

Thanks for the heads up!

Drillizer by stigmawall 2012-12-20T19:45:00

I like how the drill shook people loose from the planet. It didn't end in me winning the game, unfortunately... some people stayed on the planet and the game continued at a much slower pace. That seems like a bit of a bug, perhaps?

Still, it was a fun take on the missile command formula!

The deathray by strong99 2012-12-20T19:15:00

Good job on the theme and evil genius base! I liked the little map and general idea, but the gameplay wasn't particularly fun, unfortunately. Running back and forth checking meters and clicking on drones never made me feel particularly in control of my fate.

Susie's Xmas Hit List by AdricZero 2012-12-31T00:27:00

Dying via falling reindeer was pretty hilarious to me :P.

A.F.M.K.R.O. by Homletmoo 2012-12-22T07:50:00

Nice! There were a couple different shmups I played so far that I initially hoped had this gameplay idea, but you're the first I've seen actually do it.

Good, simple implementation. A bit clunky to control, but it translates to something that's pretty close to the movement style of shmup enemies in the end. I like it!

Good graphics and music, too :).

Bad Ufo by dsoft20 2012-12-20T19:34:00

Great humor with the cow juice; I always wondered why aliens wanted cows so much.

I also like that the best strategy seems to be making crop circles :P.

It seems a little hard to keep your cow juice levels up if you actually bother to kill vehicles... I guess there's a bit of a balancing strategy there. Overall you just gradually accumulate a massive flock of missiles chasing you, so I'm not sure how much killing vehicles actually matters...

Indicators for whether or not you have enough cow juice to do stuff would be good, but this is pretty fun! Nice work :).

Earthmination by Dreauw 2012-12-22T08:02:00

Okay, the cow at the end of the third level was fabulous. I'm sad it killed me but happy it can now move on to the rest of its life, jetpackin' around light and fancy free.

The healing and upgrading added a surprising amount of depth to this. I do wish upgrades didn't max out so early, but the difficulty seemed to be pretty well balanced. I enjoyed all three levels I managed to get to. That's a lot of (fun!) gameplay for 48 hours!

LD28 — You Only Get One

One Path To Bliss by bensoto 2013-12-22T19:30:00

The animated faces are great! It's a bit too hard to figure out what'll happen when you drop a piece, though, which hurts the gameplay a fair bit.

Singularity by Cake_Catastrophe 2013-12-22T19:15:00

Good considering the time restrictions, but the enemy variation and lack of feedback on how damaged your enemies are and how many points you'll get for using your one bomb hurt the risk/reward that'd make the mechanics truly addictive.

Good idea, though!

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

From Below by muh_h 2014-05-05T05:04:00

Cool concept, but the speed of the movement and size of the platforms means I never felt like aiming/firing was super useful. I like the idea, but I think your idea'd have a better chance at shining if you made the shooting feel more productive and doable than it does now.

Ursa Miner by drstik 2014-04-30T03:13:00

That poor bear...

I felt really alone and floatin' in space playing this. Perhaps the disorientation from the controls helps that. I think easier-to-get gems woulda helped folks ease into it a bit; putting more valuable gems deeper in the asteroids would make it worthwhile for people to actually get good at it still.

Great atmosphere and cool controls!

A boy and his Hellworm by orangepascal 2014-04-30T04:19:00

Nice feel to it, fun to play, and it looks great! The low jump does make it very easy to accidentally hit enemies, especially with keyboard controls.

This is a great take on the theme. Everyone could use a hellworm.

Manliest Man : Manly Fishing by omgnoseat 2014-04-29T01:43:00

Nice work! It's a fun concept that's a little awkward using keyboard controls. Some sound really would've helped, and wish there were reasons to do tricks after your dive is over, besides being beautiful.

Dark Depths by jwin 2014-05-05T04:51:00

Very well done! Manning the sub on your own is a bit frustrating, but a very nice way of conveying the isolation of it all. It did end up being a bit odd to get the 10 million point cat and then feel like I didn't have much else to do but make the long trip home. It was cool to find it, though!

Submarine Playground by Yngar 2014-04-30T03:45:00

The jumping was my favorite part :P.

Stickleback by DustyStylus 2014-04-29T04:14:00

I like how the game encourages you to be stealthy, but I definitely had a tough time with the controls. I like the design of the player's ship! Very cool, especially with the low poly style you used for the game.

SubChase by theplotlessplot 2014-04-29T03:36:00

Cool game! I like how you have to manage obstacles, the monster, and oxygen. I was a little embarrassed when I finally found out how to recharge my oxygen.

Wireside by Solifuge 2014-04-29T05:46:00

Impressive! I like the concept and the art is pretty slick.

I feel like it would've controlled a lot more smoothly if it wasn't so happy to scroll when the mouse was near the edges, and it did crash on me once. Well done, though! The world and gameplay show promise, but making it faster to preview between worlds and making the action/controls more precise in general (make it easier to select characters rather than requiring so much clicking, for example) would go a long way.

denudation by zillix 2014-04-29T04:46:00

Wow, that's a great gameplay concept! It really works well; I love how your powers expend the fragments, too. It helps convey their worth/power in a way that the bar and z wouldn't have gotten across. I also found picking up all of the fragments after dropping them pretty hilarious.

Elder Sub by IndieKylo 2014-04-29T04:37:00

I enjoyed squinting at the sub to some extent but really this should be rendered at 2x :). The animations of the characters seemed pretty great. I'd love for there to be more to do in this, but it had some outstanding atmosphere.

Space Driller by floz 2014-04-30T04:00:00

Simple, with little required strategy, but still compelling, mostly because of the really nice ascii style. Nice!

Emerita by st33d 2014-04-30T03:52:00

Very cool concept! Being able to undo is a nice touch and makes the hook easier to learn.

SHOT H2O by hugamer 2014-04-30T03:32:00

It's a cool concept and I like the style, but like the other comment says, a giant bubble that you can't avoid is basically guaranteed after about a minute of play.

Crabathon by colludium 2014-04-30T02:59:00

The overflowing injuryometer was very motivating for me. Nice UI touch!

The starfish is definitely too dang hard to get ahold of, and I wish it was easier to play with the map open so it wasn't so easy to get stranded in the sun and croak. Nice work though!

From the Under by damrem 2014-04-30T03:39:00

Nice art, and I like the idea of upgrading your character after death repeatedly, but I couldn't find much of a groove in the combat. My weapon felt like it had pretty short range and the enemies could hit me from quite far away, which was especially hard to deal with when they were on platforms above me.

I liked the mood and setting!

Test Beneath the Surface by Lancelot Gao 2014-04-29T03:32:00

I like the gameplay concept; it seemed as though my movements affected all enemies somehow, but I couldn't figure out exactly how for every enemy type. Perhaps introducing them more gradually would help, but it's understandable that there's only one stage in this :).

Nice work, and a cool graphical style. Impressive work for 48 hours!

Kraken Unchained by jedeen 2014-04-30T04:13:00

Haha! I went the kraken route, too.

Nice work! I like the stealth mechanics with the boats, but I wish they came up more after starting combat. For the most part I was just dodging dots the whole time. The kraken animation's pretty great.

Sewer Rat Escape by Seraphic Media 2014-04-29T02:44:00

Very cool that you managed to make two games, but the first one was definitely pretty rough. As far as I could tell, chance makes riding on anything but the edges in that game a kinda foolish endeavor.

The ending music is fabulous.

NanoDog by mechabit 2014-04-29T02:51:00

I really dig the humor. The first time I clicked the mouse during gameplay... oh man, it was magical.

Good gameplay, too! I was a bit worried that the firing speed and/or bullet speed were too slow and was keeping an eye out for upgrades or something similar. I got to the end with no problems, though. Nice work.

Frack You by Candyhandy 2014-04-29T06:01:00

I had a hard time coming close to failure in this. Being easy is kinda nice for some games when you're judging a lot of 'em, but in this case I'd like some challenge so I can more easily see the game mechanics at play! Starting at the top and going down, I had very little difficulty.

Underground by Nnoel 2014-04-29T04:05:00

Very cool; I liked how ridiculous my weapon got as I applied every upgrade I could get my hands on. Some kinda hit effects would've helped the clarity of what was going on a bit but I had a lot of fun with this.

Das Freaking Fish Vs The Flying Octopus Army by MoArtis 2014-04-30T03:20:00

It's a cool play on "beneath the surface", since you can't see what's going on up there, and your controls are much less precise above water as you're a bit outta place then. It is indeed very hard because of that, but the dichotomy's a neat idea.

Too much of the difficulty felt like chance for this to work at a larger scale, but I like what you did here.

Ramen Master by RowdyGhosts 2014-04-29T04:20:00

I found placing things in the bowl to be more frustrating than not; likely because of the "below the surface of the broth" bit ;).

SEA MONSTER: ATTACKS HUNTER by Frump 2014-04-29T03:25:00

It was done with quickly, but man the graphics are well done in this! Some kind of indicator for hitting the enemy would've been helpful, but I got used to things pretty quickly.

The only real technical issue I ran into was that I had to run the game maximized because of how easy it was to have the cursor leave the window while aiming otherwise.

Cool world and style. Nice work.

Darkvision by vexille 2014-04-30T04:09:00

Great mix of music and setting/style. I've seen a lotta video game crypts in my day, but I was still into this.

The timing-based challenges were a bit repetitive, and more random feeling than challenging when in a rush.

Beneath the Surface by Milktoast 2014-04-29T03:18:00

This was really fun! The controls are a bit slippery but that just makes me spam missiles more, which is a big part of the fun and challenge. It feels pretty hard to recover from having your stations go down, but it had to end eventually and I suppose that extends the difficulty and strategy across multiple rounds of the game. Well done.

SkyManta by snickersnacks 2014-04-29T03:41:00

I think aiming would be a lot easier if your shots were aimed a bit lower on the screen; once the health bars load up it's very hard to actually see where you're aiming.

I lol'd hard the first time the octopus deathbeamed me.

sunken by pragmascript 2014-04-30T03:27:00

Letting the user move the player a little earlier before the camera stops moving would've helped me out a lot and this certainly would've benefited from some sound.

It's a neat use of the theme, though, and it's got a nice visual design. Memory games are few and far between. Not bad for only a few hours!

Check my micro: the game by kAlekki 2014-05-05T04:58:00

I like the unique genre choice, but the controls make for a click-heavy, tiring experience, especially when so much of the game relies on sudden dodging of incoming threats.

DRAANG by Magdev 2014-04-29T05:00:00

Great style, and I feel very accomplished, having gotten all of the foods. I was yearning for some sort of direction, or increasing numbers, after I had gotten all of the various types of food, but there was food, and it was good.

Sub Surface Rangers by eralpkaraduman 2014-05-05T05:07:00

Clearly unfinished, but you guys have some promising mechanics and graphics here!

Army of Gnone by cambrian_era 2014-04-29T03:07:00

Wow, very nicely done. This feels very complete and the level design is great use of a novel concept. I nearly gave up at parts but I'm glad I didn't. Excellent atmosphere, too!

From Below by TyrusPeace 2014-04-28T14:09:00

Hey guys, I just uploaded a quick bug fix for your best finishing times not showing on the title screen. I assume few folks will actually finish this, but I did bother to save it off so I figured I might as well spend a couple more minutes to make it actually display!

Declivity by bushmango 2014-04-29T05:17:00

There's a lot of gameplay here for what are ostensibly very simple controls; I like how much trying to not-shoot the cats adds to it, and you did a good job of conveying the feeling of going ever deeper, and being increasingly in danger.

Crystal Advance by flashkick 2014-04-30T03:05:00

It's got nice flow, and I ended up liking the somewhat floaty physics, but those same floaty physics made it pretty difficult to take on the projectile shooting enemies in a better manner than "run to the crystals and keep going down!"

More audio really would've helped. It's a good game!

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Cell 09 by 01010111 2014-12-24T20:33:00

Great music, and this submission is a very impressive thing for 24 hours of work. It looks and plays great.

I definitely had a hard time with this until I fullscreen'd to switch away from the self-murdering rocket launcher, and having the win state of the game hinging on a virtual slot machine is a bit rough on the player. It's a very cool premise and works well for a jam, though! Everything feels great. Nice kickback on the weapons, for both the player movement and screen shake. Well done!

Doktornix And The Fetch Quest by drnick 2014-12-12T01:48:00

Great use of the theme! I was a bit excited to see what that potion would do at the end, though :'(.

TapRPG by thenmal 2014-12-24T16:13:00

This interface works really well for quick RPG gameplay. Well done!

Weaponrise by GibTreaty 2014-12-14T17:56:00

Nice grenade countdown effect! The sounds were a bit harsh (thanks for the audio menu!) and the initial start is really difficult if you don't make a point of upgrading your gun first.

The player's introduction to the gameplay could be more obvious; perhaps mentioning upgrades when they happen in a more obvious/flashy way would help. Also, telling the user they can hold down on left mouse goes a long way to making this less difficult for weirdos like me who don't try that first.

I really like this game, and I played it all the way to the end. Watching the weapons and player art change every time I upgraded was fun. Nicely done!

Snowman or Astroman? by rhill 2014-12-14T18:00:00

Those were my top two themes going into the vote!

I totally was clicking on the blinking items, wondering why they were just disappearing at first... ashamed. I am ashamed.

I like great job tree.

Jenny's Cave Critters Collecting Caper by Skiddings 2014-12-24T17:21:00

Really cool effect and use of the theme, recycling the same components to make the next level. I especially liked how spikes worked.

Room 5 by Thingus 2014-12-24T16:45:00

Good idea for the theme! It's a pity you weren't able to get it done.

S̹̺̣̤a͏͚̤͙ͅt͡e̖̣̬̥lli̭̬̳͈̟͖t҉ȩ̩̬̰ by lun 2014-12-26T18:55:00

Cool concept, and *excellent* presentation/audio! I imagine it varies for each playthrough, but in my time with the game I didn't encounter the risk collision often at all, and then when I did, it was pretty slow to cycle through all of the satellites to get to the right one.

Waiting in the Sky by Ysty 2014-12-24T17:35:00

Loved the graphical style! Simple but cool feeling transmission decoding gameplay. Well done!

Egg Empire by maddogawl 2014-12-24T17:16:00

Impressively compelling!

Nice touch that the cheaper chickens are easier to maintain; I swamped myself with an army of clicks before I figured that out.

Ice Fishing Derby by dylanwolf 2014-12-24T16:29:00

Exceedingly pleasant! Nice graphics and happy, enjoyable music.

Santa's Seasonal Slayfest by GarethIW 2014-12-24T16:55:00

Very cool graphical style; it worked well with the collision physics to give things a unique feel and effective feel for this kinda pit brawler.

I was happy when I finally realized the snowmen were throwing carrots.

Galvatross by ShuddaHaddaLottaFun 2014-12-27T17:50:00

I really like the effect of the little red guy falling after you get hit by a tranglor. Great title screen music! You're right that more sound effects would help, but maybe just having music during the gameplay itself would be helpful as well.

The teleport move is a cool addition to this kind of game. Nice work!

Operation Barrage by sirdorius 2014-12-20T19:34:00

Hotseat mode switched back and forth so quickly that I had a tough time doing much in it, but real time mode seems really cool!

Nice concept, and well implemented gameplay. I do wonder about some UI choices, like putting the resources across the middle line and having the health of the commander specifically be kind of tiny and hard to see.

Well done! This seems like it'd be a blast on an actual touch device.

Super Death Grid Of Death (with deadly beats) by Stending 2014-12-27T20:35:00

Very cool! I wish there was some sort of way to continue from where you were last hit, because it gets so much cooler after the first 20% are beaten and playing through that first bit over and over is pretty slow in comparison. I get "perfecting" the level being an awesome goal to have, but checkpoints, or even allowing the user to get hit a couple times before forcing them to restart could help out a lot of the scrubs like me ;).

Excellent presentation, music, and gameplay! I really like this.

Black Market Empire by Neil 2014-12-20T19:27:00

Neat idea! Some sound would really help the feel of the thing, to make it feel like some illicit web console. Not that such things make noise in real life :).

I had fun getting the hang of this, but once I figured it out there wasn't much else to do besides accumulate bitcoins. I like it quite a bit!

Broken Turrets by Biliogadafr 2014-12-20T19:47:00

Charming concept made funnier by the great animation and artwork. Very tough, though. I wanted to try and figure out some sort of strategy to last more than 15 seconds, but never quite managed to. Well done!

Deep space infection by Tokw 2014-12-20T19:09:00

Very slippery player movement; it was kinda like I was an air hockey puck of death!

Rememba the Path by tedling 2014-12-24T20:17:00

The high score system helped keep me compelled to keep at it for a good while. The sound effects work really well for this, and I liked the miss visual/sound effects combo quite a bit, too. Nicely done!

Color Collider by williamehk 2014-12-26T18:50:00

Tough, especially when it loops from one color to the other. It'd help if there was a musical beat going along with the gameplay, to help the player remember when the color changes. It'd also help if the colors on the sides looped a bit (having one extra green at the bottom would go a long ways), but I get you'd lose a lot of the uber-difficulty then.

Cool concept, and it kept me busy for a while. Ended up being fun for spectators to watch, too.

Music by Wakka 2014-12-20T19:57:00

At first I thought this was going to just be a synth toy, but the desire to get a new piece by using all of the previous ones each time kept me amused and interested the whole time! I probably experimented with loops and other tricks more than I would have otherwise because of that, too. Nice :).

Space the Neverending Adventure of Killing in Epic-scale by muumeroinen 2014-12-20T19:41:00

Wow the space stuff is very distracting, even when I did my best to ignore it! Although, I did get the main screen flashing red at me so maybe those aliens really did get to me.

Very amusing take on the theme, and there's a lot of stuff in here, too! Nice work!

Oust Santa! by Delicious Code 2014-12-20T20:10:00

6100, Wave 15, 454.6 seconds
This game had me shouting "NOOOO!" when a house would triumphantly sprout Christmas decorations post-Santa. Just that is hilarious, but the charming art, premise, and gameplay really make this a standout entry for me.

Great work!

Owls Ever After by Mike Mezhenin 2014-12-09T06:51:00

I really like the idea, but I fear it took me too long to get the link between the colored lights at the bottom and the lighting of the lights up top to reveal more story; it took me a while scrolling around to go and light up the things I'd missed afterward!

A faster way to get to areas I could light with the available colors would help confusion a bit, too, especially for similar colors. It was kind of a slow experience near the end, scooting around, looking for darkness to click on.

Overall, good execution of a very nice idea, though! The time travel interface and seeing a home over the generations was pretty great. Wonderful art and I liked how things unfolded.

Screen Savers by VikingWarriors 2014-12-20T21:11:00

The controls are indeed quite floaty for this, but that's an amusing and thoroughly executed fake monitor you've got in here!

Swarm by stephenhaney 2014-12-27T20:57:00

The music really helped the mood of this one! Clean graphics and fun gameplay! Simple, short, and very enjoyable.

Spotlights in the Deep by SeriouslyCrunchy 2014-12-27T20:51:00

I like how the movement and firing are separate components of the game to some extent, since you can't move often enough for this to be like a dual stick shooter. It helps force the player into a fair amount of strategy, and increases the spookiness!

Impressive number of different monster designs, too! Nicely done.

Same Insane by hazzahazzam 2014-12-27T20:46:00

Great use of the theme! Definitely frustrating in parts, but replaying the same level over and over again highlighted the new challenges in a way that made them more amusing than upsetting :).

The Second Thought or Please, Don't Touch Anything by Four Quarters 2014-12-20T20:55:00

Very neat concept, and it looks great! It's a compelling machine to play with and try to explore all of the possibilities of.

Well done!

War On Cutetopia by flippicat 2014-12-12T02:14:00

Whoa, menus! Don't often see people bother with those in LD :D.

The bunny bombs are excellent: adorable and very well animated! I never really got tired of seeing that rainbow-drooling whale sitting on the lollipop island in front of me, either. The music was great in a funky, noisy vidya gamey sorta way.

The actual gameplay is very simple and could definitely use more work, but overall this was very nice. Well done!

Death Heap by madcapacity 2014-12-20T21:16:00

Very amusing concept! I did manage to bury myself in dead ninjas to lose once, though.

36 ninjas to get out in 54 seconds! I had fun and the music was great :).

ROCKROCKET by Backterria 2014-12-20T20:44:00

Wow, excellent graphics and music! The tough jumps in the compo version were pretty frustrating at times. That blue dot in the left side of the hill was *right there* and I was jumping at it like a fool until suddenly I managed to hit the right pixel ;).

I spent a heck of a lot of time rub-hopping against every wall I could think of to find the last S canister, but no such luck.

Well done! Excellent atmosphere, and an effort you should be proud of, regardless of it being your _first_game_ever_!

Snowman Critter Control 2 by andrs 2014-12-14T17:10:00

I liked this game quite a bit! Cool concept, nice looking illusion of pixel-snow, and fun gameplay. It's definitely on the hard side, which is fine, but then it makes me want a faster way to restart the game.

It's always there by Mr MadCat 2014-12-14T18:18:00

Cool rendering effects, especially at the end. Before that point I was thinking the graphics were a bit rough/glitchy, but when it actually became part of the game and its story I really appreciated it. The music helps accentuate when things hit the fan but I was happy for that "m" key at other times.

Moody and insightful. Well done.

Snow Buddy Loves You: A Snowoperative Adventure by Norgg 2014-12-24T01:59:00

Cool house building mechanic! I'm not sure what the point of shooting at the enemies was as they just get small enough that you don't seem to be able to kill them in a reliable fashion.

Still though, you've got a lot of different concepts that you managed to implement for one compo entry, and they all add appealingly to the final game. Nicely done!

SchneeMannschaft by Myyyvothrr 2014-12-14T17:35:00

I found the music kind of hilariously desolate. It definitely gave this game its own vibe. Really, though, these guys are kicking a ball of snow around! That's pretty grim for a snowman. The music choice makes sense.

Gameplay worked really well, and I'm pretty impressed with the AI. The rolling snowman bottoms were a nice touch. Very nice compo entry :)!

Space Fireworks 3000: The Shmup by Darkfrost 2014-12-24T20:40:00

Very solid shmup with some pretty cool enemy/bullet patterns. The colorful aesthetic works really well, too. Nicely done!

At first I only got hit by things that did 100% damage, but once I did manage to get hit by bullets, I definitely found it hard to notice. Some sort of effect would've helped that quite a bit.

I like the squoosh effect when you fire your weapon :).

LiliLight by Carduus 2014-12-20T21:04:00

Gorgeous art, and the effects work well with the gameplay. Sorry to see that this is notably less than you'd planned, but cutting everything you can to squeeze out the fun at the end is one of the more unique and valuable things about jams!

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

The Gun Keeper by hadesfury 2015-04-30T03:54:00

Had tons of problems with the controls. In fact, I couldn't even climb up the stairs to get to the upper floor sections. Beyond that, I wasn't even sure what I was supposed to be doing at all. :(

However, the graphics and the ingenuity of the setup were very solid (and much more solid in the post-jam version you submitted.)

Shield Maiden by bitslap 2015-04-30T02:52:00

Wow, this was great! I had a tough time with it at first, but it proved a really cool mechanic that was thoroughly engaging and fun. I'm not sure how well it'd scale up to a larger game, but for a short game like this entry it was more or less perfect.

Umbrella Defender by Almost 2015-04-21T07:10:00

I like how intuitive yet novel the umbrella mechanics were, but it did seem very hard to master handling such numerous and speedy mobs of enemies with a mere melee umbrella :).

Sugar Shot by Anakiro 2015-04-30T04:43:00

Good star. Super unfortunate weapon placement though. ;)

Banana Killer by syawqy 2015-04-30T05:58:00

Rad premise!

This is the kind of thing that could be made amazing with sound. I had quite a fun time with it.

Photophobia by NuSan 2015-04-30T02:13:00

Gorgeous, really nicely-atmospheric world! The sound is decent, but seems a little too high-keyed for my tastes.

Really nicely done. Add some puzzles and more complex quests and I would be completely happy playing this game for hours. :)

ICE CREAM by little_polygon 2015-04-30T02:05:00

Fun theme, and fun sound!

Star Driller Ultra by Omiya Games 2015-04-27T15:22:00

I get that you wish the player was more in control of the lock-on mechanics, but your super-simplified controls and UI here did give us all an interesting experiment in a fast-paced space shooter controlled only with wasd.

I think you did a good job making a fun experiment in 48 hours here.

Flying Carpet by Kalinka 2015-04-30T06:19:00

I like that there were a lot of spells here, but the lag in the controls/camera really were dizzying and nauseating.

The shear amount of what you did here is way impressive, but it could certainly be made more pleasant for the user!

Glide Bomb by Rahazan 2015-04-30T06:40:00

Good exploration of some pretty cool mechanics! Being unable to land on your back makes for some pretty tense moments.

Nicely done! Super pleasant music.

Loli Mechaslayer by theholychicken 2015-04-30T07:14:00

Great graphics, but the extremely high enemy health made it hard for me to get anywhere before I was at a fairly large negative health myself...

Fathom by Joe Williamson 2015-04-30T04:02:00

Gobsmacking art and concept. I wish there were more ways to explore the concept here, but this is still very impressive for 72 hours.

Your music was excellent, too!

Mass-X by hexagore 2015-04-30T04:57:00

Super-excellent for a Ludum Dare title. Really professionally done.

I didn't feel like it was too difficult, what with the insta-restart feature. I did definitely die a number of times, but I reached the end and I had a smile on my face the whole time I was playing it.

(as an aside, I don't understand why people keep complaining that these games are too short. Did they have an extra week too work on theirs or something...?)

Excellent: graphics, visual style, mechanics, animations, writing (for what it's worth) and pacing.

Love this game :D

Stick To Your Guns by arrenyu 2015-04-30T02:36:00

I had trouble remembering the spell codes within 30 seconds of learning them. The fireworks at the end were cool though. :)

Dimension Runner by Kraosu 2015-04-30T02:14:00

I really liked the atmosphere, especially in the prologue before the action got started.

Trouble Cliff by catchthefloaty 2015-04-21T07:32:00

It's cool that the approach here is to hit things the right number of times, but it's definitely frustrating sometimes with all of those random notes floating around, especially when their movement is so wavy.

The wavy notes are very cool looking, though. I often found myself just spamming notes because I enjoyed how they looked/moved.

I'm glad I made it to the boss fight! That was neat, although certainly pretty easy compared to the level right before it.

Disco of Thrones by Maxi and The Gang 2015-04-21T07:25:00

There's a ton of goofy awesome stuff goin' on here and I loved that, but the beat-based mechanics were tough to get a hang of. Mostly it felt like I was supposed to just watch for disco balls, rather than music-based beat matching.

Severely impressive graphics and amount of things! Nicely done.

Glatto Boy by hellforge 2015-04-21T07:14:00

Great mood and music :).

I unfortunately got stuck (as you noted in the description!) by failing a rocket jump and not having another enemy to launch afterward.

I squealed with glee when I did the first "flap your arms to glide" j j j j jump, though. Nicely done! This game is gorgeous and the green fella hanging off your shoulder is pretty strange and cool.

SNIFF by dyfer 2015-04-30T02:51:00

This game...rocks.

Loved the theme, graphics, and gameplay. I don't have any cons, really, just that I would love to see a more developed version of it1.

Hacked by Nate 2015-04-30T02:15:00

It was a cool concept and I like how the animations slowed down how fast I could possibly get rid of a falling item, but it wasn't actually very doable for me to strategize that fast once things really sped up.

Also, I found the firewall pretty hilarious when I hit the spacebar. It wasn't at all what I was expecting.

Brainzaxd "a stationary traveller adventure" by tughan 2015-04-30T02:23:00

The game moves so quickly that it's pretty hard to actually strategize when to use the different weapons. I like the idea, and it sounds like there's a good balance between them possible, but this proved super tough!

I felt pretty smart the few times I actually managed to use the muscle shot correctly, though. This kept me coming back for a while despite the difficulty!

Radisheriff by Ourson 2015-04-30T03:10:00

I dunno how well you tackled the theme....but I had fun with it regardless. Solid, cute graphics and good gameplay. I especially liked the "Duel" mechanic. :|)

That cat didn't know WHAT hit 'im.

Nightlight by djfariel 2015-04-30T05:35:00

I didn't understand why there was a little tutorial about being able to light fires? I couldn't actually do that at all, but maybe it was b/c I was playing the Web Player version, where if I right click with the mouse, it just brings up the options for the Web Player instead of the game..? The flashlight "blinky" gun worked well though.

Good solid side scrolling game, though! I had fun with it.

Explosive Chickens! by zeejfps 2015-04-30T04:10:00

Making a game about throwing explosive chickens at robots without sound is rough! Oh well. Next time.

Beautiful chickens.

I get the desire to force the player to make decisions about which chickens are thrown, but when the benefits and graphics depicting those differences are so minor, I'm not sure that's something most players will manage to do.

DAVE by danec020 2015-04-30T02:27:00

Solid puzzle concept and solid construction. I'm sure if you'd had more time to add additional levels, it could have a lot of really interesting, challenging iterations. Nicely done.

Chroma Watcher by Drauthius 2015-04-30T04:56:00

Excellent music choice!

I was _very_ intimidated by the title screen, but the gameplay wasn't all that complicated, and I had a good time. Cool idea! The jump was pretty brutally short, though. The game may have been more pleasing if the jumps were less tough. Then the player could concentrate on your cool color mechanics!

Belly Battle by FractalFox 2015-04-30T05:15:00

I almost missed the cake mechanic! It was very easy to just bum rush enemies off of the platform right at the bat. Cute art style, and lotsa happy.

The Towel Club by team_towel 2015-04-30T03:24:00

Best black use of swinging black squares award.

Excellent music, too!

There's not too much to the game: it's pretty hard to lose if you keep spamming the towel button and there seem to only be two options as far as combat goes. Still, points for humor and style!

Shark Farts by aeklad 2015-04-30T06:27:00

Excellent music! Amazing farts. Fart bubbles got stuck under my shark, and then I giggled.

I must admit that I didn't quite notice the losing condition. I imagine it's when the seagulls reach the surface of the water, but I didn't notice that happening when I lost.

Do the farts level up over time? I was pretty pumped when I was able to have several bubbles out at once.

Play Your Doom by Bendev 2015-04-30T06:52:00

I agree with some of the other reviews that making the amount of time each note "blocks" input for the next note smaller would vastly improve the playability of this game. Cool idea! I had a hard time seeing the "Q"s weren't Os or Ds at first.

Flash Escape by scottthoo 2015-04-30T07:20:00

I loved the feel of the dash, but jumping was so short without a dash, and the platforms were very narrow, so it ended up being very difficult to get anywhere. Great feel, but the level design could have worked with it a lot better than it did.

Time Speed by Scornz 2015-04-30T05:24:00

Some sort of hint that enemies are about to shoot would make a huge difference here! As was, I had a hard time predicting when my impending doom was coming.

Zeldish by spike.house.games 2015-04-30T03:07:00

I got ten orbs and broke the UI! Yesss!

The swap the item in front/behind you button didn't seem to work super consistently when moving sideways, maybe? I enjoyed spamming the "swap terrain" button to get away from skeletons, though. It was a cool mechanic. Nice work!

Pizza Panic by peecestudios 2015-04-30T04:21:00

Whoa, the music for this is pretty amazing.

The gameplay was pretty rhythm game-y, but I enjoyed it! Nice challenge level.

Lure by Ludomade 2015-04-30T06:10:00

Very pretty. Kind of like a 50/50 mix of Ecco the Dolphin and Flow. :) Nice music, really nice graphics.

Hoard Hearder by QuestionableQuality 2015-04-30T07:01:00

I was looking forward to this, but I couldn't really tell what caused me the game to reset much of the time. It may have been a bug, or it may have been that the camera was so zoomed out I couldn't see what took me out. In general I had no problems seeing zombies, though.

Great concept, and interesting controls!

Super Bye Bye Bot by GenericTeamName 2015-04-30T03:52:00

I love how annoying this game is. I only ever managed to beat one robot, but I laughed the whole time I was dying.

(John McBryan)

ScarKrow by Carduus 2015-04-30T04:46:00

Excellent character design, level design, and animations. Really nice side-scroller. With more levels and enemies, I could play this all night!

...What?

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Grab Your Nutz by Budaniel 2020-10-11T03:35:38Z

Really delightful sound and animations. I laughed at the yelping squirrel when I got grabbed by a bird. I do wish avoiding branches/birds felt less random. Maybe a taller aspect ratio would help that.

Prayer Circle Peril by jimmothysanchez 2020-10-25T01:46:50Z

That music! Very nice.

This is a well done and amusing take on the theme! I was unclear on the "bullet" obstacle's path. I was often surprised that my cultists made it and/or that they got hit. I suspect it was just hard to see the depth of the bullets since they were spread out across various heights and their targets were black clouds with no obvious ground spot.

I also suspect that being able to use a mouse button to move the camera would help the controls a lot.

I'm very, very impressed with this as a compo submission. Good work!

Tako Nom Nom by brittbrady 2020-10-07T02:56:33Z

Fun gameplay, very stylish visuals and I love the feeling of impact the audio and visuals give every bounce. Well done!

Sir Fishbottom and Also Head's TIME MOB by TyrusPeace 2020-10-09T17:38:39Z

@krapht thanks for the feedback, and agreed! That button was special in that it stayed down between loops. It had a different color to differentiate it but I agree that's far from enough to explain such an odd mechanic.

I ran out of time to complete the art for that! I was thinking some special magic-clock-lookin' button. But popup text that said MAGIC TIME BUTTON ACTIVATED would have probably been enough.

Sir Fishbottom and Also Head's TIME MOB by TyrusPeace 2020-10-27T02:34:56Z

@frank-gevaerts thanks for the kind words! The extra time and teamwork for the Jam really helped! Your compo submission is very good.

Kaiju Kountdown by Johnsensei 2020-10-11T18:59:47Z

RPG Maker?! Nice! You did a good job of making a stompy satisfying kaiju time. I wish there was a little more variation in the level/enemies; I get that it's looping, but even this one level would benefit from more stuff!

Bermuda Triangle by Humpert764 2020-10-11T02:10:04Z

Cool towers! They make this work pretty well for being a "defense" game from a single point in the center!

Some sort of marker for ships that are on the way out would help. I understand that it's fairly obvious if you know to watch for it, but it feels anticlimactic/weird to lose to a boat leaving the corner of the screen.

The Watchmaker by Frank Gevaerts 2020-10-25T02:14:35Z

Great mood and execution! Loops in loops, for a watchmaker! It really fits the theme. Good writing, too! I got invested in it.

Thanks for including the solution here. It was great to read the ending. I wish I'd figured it out myself, but I couldn't find that last item for my inventory on my own. It probably would have been simpler if I'd tried the updated revision first.

Pizza Parkour by Luther-1 2020-10-07T01:40:00Z

Really fun movement controls. Dashing into that pizza in midair feels goooood.

One Minute Army by Bob174 2020-10-15T03:22:57Z

Great game and mechanics! I do wonder if higher loop limits would help players solve things in more flexible/silly ways. I get that it wouldn't be as tight of a puzzle then, but it can take a while to set up all of those different loops. Some flexibility might be appreciated!

SPACE ORBIT by Guldfisk 2020-10-15T03:38:36Z

Very good! Movement felt great once I was used to it. I appreciate the randomized levels, but I also wish I had a chance to retry in the same system so I could really get used to the spacing of things and feel a bit more progression/mastery in my own abilities.

Group Chat by Meatball 2020-10-07T03:29:27Z

The music, aesthetic and strolling up to/calling happy faces are a big happy mood for me. Really pleasant!

Loopy Racing by WillyPa 2020-10-08T16:59:18Z

Scrolling the background would've gone a long ways to making this feel more like racing! Nice tunes.

walk. by tutoa 2020-10-15T03:14:50Z

Beautiful art! I love the painted style of the animation. The mood is there, especially in the audio, but also makes it hard to keep going through loops to find the ending.

Protogonus by RNGames 2020-10-09T05:30:13Z

Very good idea and execution! There were plenty of cards that I didn't see the point of at first and was delighted to see excellent uses for later.

Frying Donut by fachscahfttf 2020-10-07T03:23:35Z

I had a good laugh the first time I fired the shotgun. Nice.

Stuck in a Loop by Lena Taylor 2020-10-11T02:24:33Z

Nice graphics! It looks like they're actually 3D assets; tilting the camera down a little and turning on perspective could've made a big difference in presentation.

Good gameplay too! I like the different weapons. I'm sure more enemies would've let me experiment more but I appreciate having a big boss fight, too.

The weapon sounds are quite high pitched and much louder than the background music. I'd recommend a lower pitch in general. I've run into this issue myself when using synthesized sounds. Testing on a variety of speakers/headphones helps. Laptop speakers really make this sorta thing hard to notice!

Loop of Doubt by King_Cacti 2020-10-15T03:29:02Z

The quick movement really grew on me after a while. Auto-fire would be appreciated but I was really surprised at how good the movement felt after a couple loops.

It certainly does seem like a bug that the timer resets every 60 seconds directly over text that tells you to make it to 120 seconds.

Great work for a first jam though! It feels good.

Hammy's Modern Life by Waneck 2020-10-15T03:03:38Z

Beautiful art and music! You really nailed the mood you were going for.

I do wish there was more to do, and more ways to push at the loop and try new things. But I get that's not the goal of this! You set out to make this loop and you nailed it. Well done.

Unknown Factory by ShootingStaa 2020-10-15T03:47:18Z

Moving these tiles to move the robots is a fun mechanic! You implemented it well. But I do wish enemies spawned with more warning so the game involved more track/factory building and less reactionary tile dragging.

I get that it'd be hard to keep the challenge then without switching to a more stage-based design. I really like that you went for a score-based survival thing with this. It's a unique design challenge!
