LD19 — Discovery

Impatient Archaeologist by Hellfang 2011-01-09T16:43:00

The way real archaeology should be done. Simple concept but surprisingly fun, got 109 bones and 410.6 meters down before owning myself.

What's really pretty fun is moving your cursor to a point on the screen, and then mashing left-click there, seeing how far down you can get. I've gotten 48.6 meters.

Zoobedoo by Hamumu 2010-12-20T19:06:00

Very nice concept/graphics. My only complaint is that besides the mechanic, everything else feels very corporate, depending on polish rather than uniqueness.

Quest for the Four Altars! by Staggy 2010-12-20T18:15:00

Skiing on grass. Wee.

Platform engine was a bit buggy (shoved me into a wall once; forced me to restart) but I actually think that's a plus as it lets you fly across the map rather fluidly and quickly.

I didn't realize that those things were altars; was looking for a collectible item or something. Didn't realize I'd already won. Might have been better to have some visual signifier for that, but in 14 hours I understand that's not very practical.

Lastly, is that Ronald McDonald?

Volatile by True Valhalla 2010-12-20T04:40:00

Amazing. Love strategy games. AI is a bit dumb though; I took the middle and ended up wrecking all three at once.

Great presentation, music (<-- THIS), and graphics. Don't understand how you do this so fast.

Circus Peanuts by NMcCoy 2011-01-09T17:07:00

Nominations for best music anyone?

Played until I got 233 peanuts; found a dungeon and killed them bats and stuff. Great game, the minimalism was a big plus.

LD19 Planets by mjau 2010-12-20T17:38:00

Hm. Really can't be called a game. Works very well as a generator though, haven't seen any messed up triangles.

Spacebrick and the Window to the Stars by Toeofdoom 2010-12-21T20:27:00

Still laughing a little.

Great game.

Colony Tycoon by Andrew Marsh 2010-12-20T17:34:00

Acceleration seems extremely slow to me, and there's not much gameplay going for it. Sorry :( interesting concept though, I could see this being developed further.

Pass it! v1.1.5 by Folis 2010-12-21T19:15:00

Stopped at the v1.1 level (couldn't find a way to get up). Concept is rather unoriginal, but somewhat enjoyable nonetheless. The theme seems sort of just thrown on there, but that's not too much of a problem (given that "Discovery" pretty much fits every game in existence). Nice work regardless, good luck.

Audio_Chef by DeathBySnail 2010-12-21T23:21:00

Hey there's where that snail is from.

Neat concept and execution. Graphics could use a touch-up, though.

Where can I go now? by Mirroar 2011-01-09T20:11:00

Left my laptop on with this for a few hours and came back with 168826 rock, 168095 energy, and 172262 plant stuff.

Really like this game. Desperately needs some form of healing though, and I think infinite upgrades would work very nicely. Music and graphics were good, and the upgrades system sort of tied it together. Nice work.

Btw, this only happened once, but one time I purchased an upgrade (the middle-bottom one I think) and ended up with negative energy. Like -76 or something. Can't seem to recreate the bug though.

Discoveries by whitetigle 2010-12-21T20:56:00

Sorry, this just goes way too slow for me to be able to play. I found my mind screaming "TELEPORT ALREADY!" at the unnecessarily long parts. I tend to like games like this, where it goes however you interpret it, but the questions asked ("Who am I really?") were a bit dry and uninteresting.

I see where you're going though, and I think if you were to ask some more thoughtful ("interpret-friendly") questions it'd turn out really well.

Attack of the time travelling pygmy from outer paleolithic (aka Time Pygmy) by deepnight 2010-12-21T21:22:00

Rabbits don't like microwave.

No no no no.

Trip (n.) - an exciting or unusual experience (source: Merriam-Webster) by ThatSnail 2010-12-20T16:59:00

@Epskampie:
Thanks, glad you liked it. Haven't had the rocketjump bug yet but I'm sure it's there somewhere; didn't really have time to bugtest.

@Moops:
Sigh, yes. The difficulty curve is steep as hell, it's one of my main quirks about the game. Thanks for the feedback though.

To everyone else: my best time so far has been 169 seconds. See if you can beat that :)

Trip (n.) - an exciting or unusual experience (source: Merriam-Webster) by ThatSnail 2011-01-03T06:07:00

Wow Jeebus I am sorry for being so late to reply.

@Sos: Tell your brain I am sorry, I wish it a fast recovery.

@DeathBySnail: BROTHER! Danke.

@toadfrogs: Thanks, controls take a bit of getting used to but I have to agree, they're pretty annoying.

@ranklar: Thanks, although I think the flashes are what make the game. The ending is crap though; really sort of disappointed that I had to wreck it like that. Ran out of time. 48 hours is a toughie.

@Endurion: Thanks, and again yeah, controls are pretty sucky.

@ryantouk: Took me a while to find the rocketjump bug but found it; it's just on the rightmost wall I forgot to put solid objects. I'll fix after the compo; thanks.

@tonic: The biggest mess-up I have with platformers, I think, is I always trade off controllability for freedom of motion. You don't have to deal with that airy, sticky walljump done in most other platformers, but in turn it takes forever to get the guy to jump without looking like a seizurefest. I'll try balancing the two next time, thanks for the feedback.

@Meep: Same as above really. Was actually hoping it'd scare someone a bit :)

@badlydrawnrod: One of my major failures of this game, besides the controls, was keeping the storyline tense throughout. The flashing images ended up looking a bit disconnected, more like screamers than tense points in the story. Thanks for the comment.

@ACodeGerm: Thanks :) and after the compo I was literally trying to pry my eyes awake, completely forgot about music.

@k_wright: I wish.

Thanks again everyone for the feedback, and good luck! Typed this on an iTouch, my fingers are all cramped and disjointed now :P

Fate of Mankind by LegacyCrono 2010-12-20T17:56:00

Really liked this. Ending drove it home. Seriously this is the best ending I've seen in a very, very long time.
..."discovered hearing" scared the crap out of me though ._.

Quick by Moops 2010-12-21T19:42:00

Don't really feel like getting the XNA to run this game, but what's that about dead snails?

Disco Five by JohnColburn 2010-12-20T18:49:00

Discoverometer!

Very well done but can get monotonous, if not impossible (eventually took me 4000 of my fuel just to get to a mining site and back).

BoxMiner by Club559 2010-12-21T19:49:00

Not bad but nothing special. Gets rather boring quickly. And frankly I also went to 1000 for the same reason ranklar did (before reading his comment). Go figure. Again, not bad though. Good luck.

.WormFood. by Epskampie 2010-12-20T19:33:00

Man I really suck at this game. Can't pass the first level, though I'm pretty sure I get close.

Can't really say anything on behalf of my suckiness. I like the intro.

It's A Frickin' CAVE by Hempuli 2010-12-21T19:39:00

Lololol is that a creeper?? :D

Very good presentation, graphics, and gameplay. Impressive how you did this after starting over once.

Dinosaur Dance-Off by Draknek 2010-12-21T22:55:00

REINDEER FOOLS!
http://www.draknek.org/dance/?dino=310q
SUCK IT.

This is so neat I love it.

Eureka! Vaults of Knowledge by badlydrawnrod 2011-01-09T17:14:00

Neat game, I like the mushroom idea. Why are there so many diseases?

Oh, and I got "humpy" as a word. Huh.

Search&Bump by Balooga03 2010-12-21T19:04:00

Simple, innovative concept. Not much actual gameplay though. Anyhow, nice job. Get well soon.

Corpse Runner by mklee 2010-12-21T23:03:00

Thought this was a necro-cannibal game for a second. Then I realized the corpses reappear after you die. Phew.

"61 people have died so you could escape." Ending makes me think, it's good. And I agree, bigger halo. Otherwise it's very unique, good work.

Explosive Transcendental Circulatory System by NiallM 2010-12-21T19:21:00

Okay props to innovation for sure, this is incredible. One of the coolest games I've seen so far. I honestly think this should be used for therapy.

1958 BNL by ExciteMike 2010-12-20T19:25:00

Such a neat concept. Found the secret room but didn't know what to do with it.

And lulz at the ending. Portal throwback anyone?

Very nice job.

LD20 — It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This!

Phantom Keeper by the31 2011-05-05T00:58:00

Heh, love the intro dialogue. Rather fun, although disappointed at the short length. Looked like you had the whole setup done too.

Diagnosis by ThatSnail 2011-05-02T19:15:00

Thanks for the comments!

@DrPetter, you're supposed to go into the circle to shoot. The shield doesn't kill you.

Got a ton of inspiration from cactus, was hoping I didn't rip him off too much to be noticeable, heh.

Overcoming danger with trees by Desmont 2011-05-05T01:06:00

Ohh cake. Took me a second to figure out the controls. I like the time-traveling mechanic.

Dangerous II by SMSadventure 2011-04-30T04:24:00

Ahah! Very clever.

LD22 — Alone

Leave Me Alone by strega 2012-01-10T05:27:00

Whoa, you placed! Congrats! :D

LD23 — Tiny World

My Kid Dropped The Planet by MadGnomeGamer 2012-04-25T02:47:00

Hey SkullSoft! :D

Enjoyed this game, played it through to the end. Graphics are a bit lackluster but the gameplay makes up for it. Pretty satisfying to launch the earth into a circular fan.

Playing "evil" was definitely a whole lot more fun than "good."

Nice job overall. Also, GM games tend to get false positives from antiviruses, so it's probably clean, but nothing wrong with being too careful.

Block Bros by HeuGamer 2012-04-25T23:38:00

Big plus on graphics and innovation but the gameplay was rather slow, like others have said. Very cool idea.

Skully's Microscopic World by Skully 2012-04-23T23:05:00

Booyah!

Was disappointed there weren't more quotes.

Too Big For This World by Hallway 2012-04-24T01:22:00

Bouncing on tanks feels amazing. Not sure I quite figured out how to effectively use the allies though.

A little limited but enjoyable nonetheless.

Lord Deadrock's Adventures by abstroke 2012-04-24T02:01:00

Need to drag your file to the Public folder and right-click -> Dropbox -> Get Public Link from there. Looks pretty cool though.

Tiny Galaxy by devince 2012-04-24T01:18:00

WOW that is a neat concept. Props.

Thinking the game would be nice with some enemies that actively chase you and also more meteors and also more enemies, yeah.

Music is catchy.

Giant Wizards from the Outer Rim! by tompudding 2012-04-23T22:55:00

Controls didn't always feel too responsive and the game closed out when I was one move away from killing the wizard, hmm.

Rather nice but it's also way too easy to watch the AI duke it out and pick off the scraps afterwards.

Lots of potential though, nice work.

CAPSULE [web] by True Valhalla 2012-04-25T00:53:00

"Want to hear a joke? A seal walks into a club..."

Hilarious and unique. Just short of full points across the board from me. Excellent work.

This Town (ABEFTTOU) by ThatSnail 2012-04-24T00:31:00

Augh it wasn't packaged right, why didn't anyone tell me?!

Fixed version is up. I promise there are no changes except the packaging.

Sorry guys.

This Town (ABEFTTOU) by ThatSnail 2012-04-24T01:00:00

...aand the working version now has a bug that pretty much breaks the game.

There's a postjam update that fixes it but I recommend you rate the game based on the un-updated one.

This Town (ABEFTTOU) by ThatSnail 2012-04-24T02:43:00

Augh. Same happened to my friend. Sorry.
Also XNA is just the Windows framework used with C# to make games. I'd have a standalone but there's no other way to package XNA games which is sort of retarded.

Sorry again :<

This Town (ABEFTTOU) by ThatSnail 2012-04-25T00:02:00

VDOgamez:
Yeah, sorry. Only way to package XNA. Included a little disclaimer in the description.

Jungorend:
The computer's harvesters are twice as strong as yours too, but that's to compensate for the fact that you can use items. The original plan was for the AI to have the same abilities as you but that got canned due to time.

Thanks both of you for playing and giving feedback!

Also for everyone who couldn't play due to graphics card problems, the postcompo version is now built in Reach mode which fixes that. It should work now.

Drop of Life by MrTwister 2012-04-24T01:55:00

Absolutely one of the greatest implementations of Conway's Game of Life ever. Was disappointed that the space was limited though but that's probably a whole lot better for balancing (R-Pentomino etc).

Orbiter by thatshelby 2012-04-24T01:59:00

Neat game. Bit slow starting and going and it isn't exactly too challenging but the style of the game meshes really well.

Super Fun Crushy Time! by Darkfrost 2012-04-24T01:47:00

Interesting game. Bit too much like Katamari but it's still one of the games I enjoyed the most so far.

Wonder what your chances are of getting PETA'd for eating the cat. :D

A Tiny New World by Gameko 2012-04-23T22:40:00

Has potential but like others have said, more enemies and some effects would be nice. Killing enemies didn't feel very satisfying due to the lack of response. But it's understandably unfinished so that's alright I guess.

Green Invasion by Kableado 2012-04-23T22:45:00

Not sure why but killing the Mike Wazowski things is so satisfying.

Some disco music would've been great here, I think. Also a death-worm-esque combo system would've been nice.
