I liked the music an the light effects and the fact that it works on linux (thx to sdl + wine).

I liked the music an the light effects and the fact that it works on linux (thx to sdl + wine).
I liked the efficient gfx, i liked the smooth paralax scrolling and the concept of the game and the fact that it runs smoothly on my linux netbook ! When I died, I just wanted to play another game ! It's a simple but working concept, I just want to discover other planets :)
I went through the game to the end. I liked the gfx, but after spending 20 minutes playing, I found it frustrating to get such a reward...
I think I would like the concept if it was easier to grasp. However it sounds quite original. I will try it again later.
Dslayer27 : Did you save your progression ( S key ). So if a bug happens, you can always go back to last save :)
Increpare : I coded it on a AthlonXP64 (quite old) but it worked. On my eeepc it is slow though
stevejonhnson: I agree about the input system. It is quite bad... :( Text before game over should indicate why you lost.
Thanks to everybody for trying the game :)
Well, It's a kind of "Fighting fantasy book"-like game. But withouth the dice. ;)
There are several paths to follow and different endings. So I admit it's more an interactive story than a game...
Anyway thanks for your comment : I had a great time creating the content !! I'm happy you liked it :)
Thanks for your comment. I understand your point. I think with more time and more sleep I can make something better and more balanced. However, one question : did you went through the whole game ?
I agree on the fact that it is still a young technology and quite webkit related.
But I would recommend this article : http://www.themaninblue.com/writing/perspective/2010/03/22/
which gives interesting data.
However it was still interesting to try to see if I could come with a game. And I believe in a few years it may render faster in every browser.
Timelapse next time (need to see how i can do that on ubuntu though).
Anyway, I understand that I completely failed at making people understand how to play the game. I should have changed my priorities. It's a good lesson though. My friends told me the whole Week End that I should make the player know how to play.
As for the game concept, well it was a true experimentation of ideas I've had in my head for a long time.
Next time, I will try to make things clearer and funnier :)
Thanks for your comment :)
@devenger : well, most of the time your choices mattered in the sense that they brought you a different vision of the same event.
They also mattered because, there are different endings.
Eventually, each time you play you can discover a new hint about igor's life. Especially childhood and relation to women...
Thanks for having played the game. I've got a few ideas to make the concept become something nearer to a game...
@endurion : your point is agreed but maybe in a few months games such as : http://www.chromeexperiments.com/detail/onslaught-arena/?f=
will be available on ffox, ie and opera ?
register ? Why not using just a login ? With more than 200 games to test, it seems a huge wall ! So if I have time I will try your game but I put it on my "later-list". Sorry about hat. I understand your point; It's not difficult to do but I d'ont have much time and wnat to go straight to the game.
BTW, the same rule applies to games posted on low perf web sites. I just don't want to load zillion flash ads before actually testing the game.
Way too slow on my netbook. I'll try it later :)
Sorry I couldn't play the game because it didn't load at all.
Not playable on my netbook (screen resolution too small...).
And WASD keys are not funny for non qwerty keyboards...
So It will be hard for me to rate the game. Sorry about this.
Well done for a first game :)
Too slow on my eeepc 1000HE, I will try it on a more powerful machine and rate it later :)
fine music but how does it work ?
I did not like the goal of the game. But the sounds were fine.
The game fits the theme and the graphics were ok :)
well done ! It's a good shooter :)
I like the way these tiny worker take energy and transform it into matter : I liked your game :)
Well done ! I liked th music and the concept was very interesting and original. (and I admit I rushed it and got crushed a few times before understanding the block color logic ) :)
I liked the game, and the "world moves with you" concept which I I have also kind of used in my game.
The gfx were great and the story funny. Bravo :)
I could not test your game : Opengl2 crash on my netbook :(
(java.lang.UnsupportedOperationException: GLSL and OpenGL2 is required for the LWJGL renderer!)
WASD made it diffucult to play on my AZERTY keyboard. So I am sorry I prefer not rate your game :)
I don't know what level I reached (10-15?) but I sure enjoyed playing that far :)
just great ! I didn't make it yet, but it's just great ! bravo !
Fun little game :)
It was fun but a little difficult to handle at first try :) Well done !
is it possible to zoom ? So that I can see the wonderful tiny anims ?
I wish I could handle logs and carry stones like them ! Great game !
thanks !
I am sorry though that the tutorial for this version is kind of stuck so you have to go through it each time you play. A problem which arose because I did it just before submissions.
I will make both OSX + linux versions this week as well as a post compo release which will be a little bit more optimized :) Don't hesitate to give me more thoughts / feedback about the gameplay. :)
Ah, before I forget : the tutorial problem ( which is mainly waiting for tips to appear and disappear, which takes about 10 seconds before you get started ) happens just the first time you play so that after you can play without any problem. I thought I needed to explain so that no one gets frightened ;)
@deepnight : Thanks !!
@devwill : linux has been added today, osx is planned this week and maybe a web version as well :)
@arkazon : tutorial : agreed, I added it just before I submitted the game... For the crash I don't know since I did not encounter one.
@Jhelle : agreed for the keys :) Thanx !
Many thanks to all of you !
Thanks for all your kind comments !!
I am planning to make an improved version with different game modes, better story, better tutorial, and of course the missing sounds and music !
Since the game was made for the ludum dare, I will use the ludum dare web site to give updates :)
BTW, a macosx version is under way !
Thanks for all these comments, I am going to take time to incorporate all your ideas :)
Beautiful, light and darkness mixed together, a good story served by beautiful visuals. I love it :) Me Appy !
Before reading the comments I wonder what I had to do. But after that I agree that the idea is cool and could easily be enhanced :) Your visuals are good an the game works like a charme. Congratulations :)
WASD... When you have an AZERTY keyboard is not playable without losing much fun. Sorry. I loved the gfx though...
Huge ! Well done !
Fun game, but I needed to read the comments to understand why I was dying. Well done :)
Like ishisoft, I killed the boss though I had crushed all my tiny human friends... It was fun to play :)
I really liked the concept and the visuals ! It was fun to play !
Please....... no more WASD ! We're not all using qwerty kb layouts :)
I found it difficult to play (and slow on my netbook). But the gfx were cool as well as the sfx :)
I like the lovely tiny pixel gfx. The game is a little bit hard for me. It really fits the theme ! bravo :)
Just great. Good story. Good quests. Easy and fun to play. And it does fit the theme. So... bravo!
Just found the window way too small on my huge 4K screen ;)
My first impression : WTF??!! And then enlightenment came to me and then I just remembered how lucky I am to particate to Ludum Dare and test real innovative games. Thanks for this game. It's good (once you figure what you're supposed to do that is ;) )
Sorry like all the games made with LOVE I tried to rate, I could not test it on windows. It just crashes at startup. :(
Nice game. A little bit short though.
Just a thought : even if the physics engine works well, like in many games using physics nowadays, I fail to see what it really adds to the gameplay :)
Anyway, well done :)
This is a truely good game. Nice concept, nice music, nice audio, good mood and fits well the theme. Congratulations :)
Fun dialogs and interesting puzzles :)
Very original. I enjoyed the choices and the outcomes.
I really enjoyed your game. It was neat. Clear. Precise. Worked well and did fit the theme. Too sad it was so short though.
nice work :)
Ok the code is clearly minimalist :)
But I have to rate a game ;)
Well done! Easy to grasp yet sometimes frustrating... And I would agree with the slow dialogs. But I am speaking about the 'official release' here.
Anyway that's a good Job team! bravo les gars :)
Good concept, good game, well executed except maybe the tune which was annoying after 2 seconds ;)
I cannot rate your game since it's WASD. Could you add a ZQSD option or other key binding please?
Great. I really enjoyed the concept!
Also fails for me :)
It's an ok shmup but it slows down too much for a this limited number of particles (you certainly may have room for optimisations). Also an energy bar would be great for both the foes and the boss. Still it works and it's a nice try before your upcoming hellish shmup. Because now you have tried you have to come up with a great bullet hell!
Very addictive. Very well done. Fits very well the theme. Just Bravo!
I like the concept although I didn't really have fun playing. But it is good
Oh I just came over a switch and the game crashed...
After the second door :)
Great concept. Entertaining although I am not fond of the overly minimalistic bips ;) But nice fit.
Well done. Easy to play. Nice looking. Minimalist. So I guees that's cool :)
Controls are very responsive and the game is very cool and just fits the theme. Nice work.
Sooo Retrooooo.
By the way I think your spaceships look like cow heads. Once you see cow heads your game take another very special/weird dimension. ;)
This is the game! So hilarious! And fits well the theme :)
It's a neat game with a good concept. Easy to grasp yet not that easy to play. I love the visuals and there's an unique atmosphere.
However, I did not have much fun. But that's because this is just not my type of game :) Still, this a very good work! Congratulations!
Well made, fits the theme, gfx and sfx were great and for your information my brain just blew up. But it's ok. So that's a very nice game you made there. Congratulations!
Same here : Crash at startup :(
Double click on WindowsGame1.exe does not launch it? windows7 64
Way tooooo hard :)
Good game. A little bit tough though. I liked the gfx and it fits pretty well the theme.
Somehow I find it creepy. All these strange dark windy woods end these pale colors, and you just trying to find some human to eat. With some music it could be so strange. The atmosphere is very refreshing. Good mood :)
I really enjoyed the concept. It is very addictive and very original. Moreover the use of sounds is very interesting. Great idea :)
It was actually fun to play and quite challenging and I do not like these reds when they're eating me alive!! ;)
oups.. Can't download...
I can't start it. It crashes at startup :( (got the zip from github)
Yes. Just completed the game. It fits 100% the theme and it is very interesting. The color Theory thing is just cool :) Good Game!
First I definitely hate blue blobs and poisonous snakes.
Ok so I really enjoyed the way you move ( pv ;) ), the different abilities of the 4 characters. And I really enjoyed finding the scepter and then dying.
The game is very easy to play, it seems simple, it is but very rich nonetheless. And it very innovative. Bravo!
thanks for playing :)
A few more tips for those who want to raise their score :
when seeds grow enough they free a flower. So you can see a little dot at the base of the plant. But if the plant grows too much it just disappear and leave room.
Also note that seeds do not live well one with another. So sending a seed on another seed will remove the planted seed.
Water, when sent right next to a seed will make it disappear because water is better in a seed that outside ( don't ask me why ).
Thanks for all these comments!
arkeus>well it *can* be a good thing because you need room to be able to grow new seeds. I mean the new kind of seed you get after having grown a flower. But *it is dangerous* because you have a weak spot for water bubbles which could then damage other plants around.
nintendoeats> yeah I agree with you about the loop. Too short and too repetitive. But I went short of time.
NemoStein>the loading sequence is... (no I just can't say that here). Well it's *kind* of loading...
thanks for all these nice comments :) I am really happy that you enjoy my game. I really enjoyed making it so that's very cool.
Thanks for these comments!!
First of all thanks for your critics and comments. You guys rock!
>deepnight: well it depends whether you want to destroy your plant, to make room for another plant for instance. In the same way, throwing water next to a plant destroys it. So when you begin to get seeds of other colors it can be interesting to plants not fully grown up to get more points.
Axcho, Dir3kt > Totally agree, the game lacks scoring feedback. But if you take risks, I mean if you grow flowers and pass new levels then you'll begin to see the challenge. Because the points lie there, both in passing levels and growing flowers from new kind of seeds.
Thanks for your comments! You really are cool :)
Tozy > this is a bug I wrote about in my post-mortem. Statics are not reset so the second game will be harder.
Ok, just like I did with some other games so I gave the game a second try.
What I have to say is : the graphics are great as usual. The music and sfx are also great. The game is polished and well designed and it is just 'complete'. I mean it is a complete game like you could actually buy.
The game mechanics are interesting and work well. So this is a work of great quality. To conclude this is maybe one of the most polished entry of the Ludum Dare contest.
Now I've said that, there are a few things that keep bugging me. First of all I think somehow the game does not fit the theme so well. Or I fail to see how. But that's a very subjective thought.
Secondly, frankly I just didn't have so much fun playing to it. While I just kept playing to Strike of Rage and Atomic Creep Spawner, this one is a little bit slow. I mean it is a colorful universe but I find it misses something. Something that was at the core of your last LD entries something that made your entries so fun to play. Is it rhythm? Is it the lack of goals? I don't know.
But like I said all this is highly subjective and Budget Squad is still a very very good entry. Keep doing awesome stuff, mate :)
Escape key is your friend :)
I miss some goals... But hey we're talking about meditation So I guess that's ok...So I agree with the minimalist not-game concept ;)
A lot of depth. A rich universe maybe a litle bit 'classic' but still cool. I like the fact that there's actualy a story plot and 'non nteractive' scenes. Then since the gfx is ASCII it forces me to imagine just like when reading a book. The only drawback for me though was the use of WASD which on ZQSD keyboard is just a nightmare. But since it is not real-time that's 'ok'. (but if you would have courage to bind cursor keys or zqsd that would be just great.
It's difficult and slightly repetitive but original nonetheless.
On the windows version it seems I cannot pass a level. I kil the opponent and then it restarts.
Great game. I loved the gfx and the music was ok. But playing inverted would be so great. I mean it is hard to go up when you think you're going down. So when things get complicated it is difficult - well at least for me - not to go out the tunnels. But overall it's great for a 48 hours work. Bravo :)
Although the title was appealing to me I actually had little fun playing to the game.
I was kind of feeling deceived by the title which was pretty 'sexy'
Maybe it's because I found it too repetitive and random or too fast for me.
Colossal review: after having struggled to find what I had to do - mainly because I tend to avoid reading game rules - I just had fun with my now job as a "THING THROWER". Yes your entry is one of the funniest I've played too. And everything is very polished although I feel the music is a little bit repetitive.
A little "bug" : the stairs can still appear when the countdown has reached zero. Of course you can't go up. But I just wanted to report it :)
So overall this is one of the best entries I have rated so far. Hope you'll release an 'official version' :)
Hard to control but nice concept :)
