LD18 — Enemies as Weapons

Dr. Destruction and the Weapon that Turns Enemies into More Weapons by jplur 2010-08-23T22:56:00

The intro was cool, that's where you lost me. The fact that it's completely unrelated to the theme is the least of its problems. Why are you even making 2 mini games when you only have 48 hours to make one game?

HOME by zdanielz 2010-08-23T22:44:00

Well done, nice idea too. Controls and physics in general are way to fast and feeling sort of weird, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Instead of just spawning in random warp cores I think it would make more sense if you need to destroy enemy ships to get their warp cores.

ARCANE by Neonlare 2010-08-25T18:34:00

The retro style works well here and feels really authentic.

Protractor by KilledByAPixel 2010-08-24T17:43:00

Thanks! I'm glad everyone is digging the visuals and understanding how to play. I agree about controls being an issue. I experimented with them somewhat during the comp but in the interest of time I decided to go with the simplest solution.

The tractor beam controls are something I want to work on. Right now it's just a simple spring system but I think I can improve that so it controls more tightly. I like idea of them gravitating in. Maybe you there's a new part that sucks other parts to it? I'm also thinking about allowing the player to select multiple objects at once with the tractor beam to speed up part placement.

I didn't have too much time for sound effects but I threw in a little love. There's five different bullet sounds it randomly picks from for each gun. The frequency is scaled by the damage so that weaker weapons sound higher pitched. Then there's a some extra randomness added to the frequency to make it feel a more organic. I used SFXR (which is fantastic) but there wasn't much time to do a real sound pass.

Odd Castle Wars by Vladp995 2010-08-24T17:59:00

Why doesn't it just end the round automatically when you finish placing stuff instead of having to press space? How do I control what I want to put down? It seems like I can only put down a few of the same thing down each time and other times nothing at all.

Hacking4Dummies by madpew 2010-08-25T17:21:00

Pretty cool idea. Those master mind puzzles were tough, I had to give up at the 5 digit one. Maybe whenever you get a new ~ or ! it gives you a little more time? I think that could add to the tension while also giving players more time.

Sun Attack by pants 2010-08-26T20:37:00

That was hilarious! I think you should tweak down the laser speed a little bit.

iceFIREice by Jhelle 2010-08-24T21:45:00

Nice! I didn't mind passing through walls, maybe you are a ghost or a spirit. I think a mouse based control scheme would help.

Man And Robot by quoj 2010-08-23T22:30:00

I love the retro gamboy style visuals. Gameplay is a little hard to grasp. I still haven't finished the first level but I did manage to collect all the money bags. Also I like the fact that it requires only mouse input but movement controls are a little cumbersome.

Camma The Huntress by Scramasax 2010-08-26T20:52:00

It crashed for me when I ran the exe, but running the bat file worked!

It's really good to see a 3d entry. You should highlight the character that you spent so much the time on! First move the camera in closer for now at least. I edited cameratune.cfg and moved it to (0, 140, -320), give that a go. Also the player and enemies aren't getting lit, you should try to throw some lights on them to give them more depth. Ideally match it up close to the terrain lights.

Enemies, (Such) as Weapons. by zlash 2010-08-25T18:51:00

You seriously need to edit your dialogue, I felt like I was playing Metal Gear Solid!

Grabman by jfarquhar 2010-08-24T18:13:00

That was pretty fun, I got the cake! I think you should just press left mouse button again to drop something instead of space.

Strongmen! by TomBom 2010-08-24T18:48:00

Nice work! It was fun trying to figure out a strategy but I couldn't come up with a good one. I almost beat level 3 after several tries but eventually had to throw in the towel.

Conquest by Covenant 2010-08-25T18:07:00

You got some really nice stuff here. Cut scene was awesome. Just up the speed and difficulty a bit.

LD20 — It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This!

Hangman by mattdev 2011-05-07T03:00:00

Nice rope physics and level design. You could have saved yourself some time and skipped doing a game over screen, it got annoying after a while. Instead just start him back at the beginning of the level. Also it's fine to double up on controls, both space and W should be jump. This way you cater to more people's desired layout.

WHALE of a TALE by moltanem2000 2011-05-02T14:48:00

I tried a few times and can never get enough money to build a mill. Some of the interactions are a little confusing. It took me a while to figure out how to summon a whale. Maybe it would be more intuitive if instead of clicking and releasing over water you just walk onto the dock.

Light The Way by KilledByAPixel 2011-05-06T19:14:00

Thanks! I agree with you about a check point system but I was extremely pressed for time. Hopefully it's a short enough game that it wont be too big an issue. I just put up an enhanced version with a bit more polish and some bug fixes including the multi jump bug. I'd like to get some ambient music in soon but still haven't decided on that yet.

Organs and Marriage by wademcgillis 2011-05-07T02:48:00

Pretty solid game, fun simple concept well executed. I don't see the purpose of doors if enemies can just go through them and they don't cost anything to open. Also since players can just continue for free you might as well refill their hearts when a new level starts. Also is there some secret way into that room with 4 hearts?

It's dangerous to be the King! by venzon 2011-05-07T03:29:00

Cool game. You should make the player move a bit slower on the grass then on the path.

Take It Take It Take This by Rikkard 2011-05-03T04:07:00

Good idea! Maybe instead of just being good or bad there could be more of gradient, like choices range from best to worst. Also it felt wrong to press space to send in an adventurer since otherwise it's fully mouse driven. Instead maybe the item box at the bottom could just say "Send in the next adventurer." and you click on it to send them in.

LD21 — Escape

Reach For It by Noel Berry 2011-08-27T14:04:00

Really nice visual style. I would have liked to aim/shoot with the mouse.

Escape from the Frame by vitae 2011-08-24T03:20:00

Having a different mini game every level kept me interested the whole way through. I think it would have been better without the music.

Mountain Break by ekun 2011-08-24T01:22:00

I liked it a lot, nice work on the lava.

Stuff From the Past by eralpkaraduman 2011-08-25T00:58:00

I really liked the moment when I grabbed the sword and all the cavemen went nuts trying to kill me.

I Think In A Minute Or So I Will Explode by Hangedman 2011-08-23T13:56:00

That was awesome, good gameplay balance and controls.

Your Pals Have Escaped! by Nanolotl 2011-08-24T01:42:00

Really nice level design, very devious. It was a little too challenging for me to put the time in required to finish but I enjoyed what I played. It seemed like the back story about hunting your friends didn't have much of a connection to the actual gameplay.

Tetts escape! by zoral 2011-08-27T13:43:00

Congrats on making your first game! One big and probably easily fixable thing I noticed was that you are applying a constant velocity rather then acceleration due to gravity. Also if you could also get the skeletons shooting back at the player I think this could be pretty fun.

Help! I'm trapped in a compact 2D Riemannian manifold! by mikolalysenko 2011-08-24T01:50:00

Cool, very interesting stuff! I liked how it only used the mouse to control but I have to admit I struggled a bit with the controls.

Goat Milk by stoz 2011-08-23T14:12:00

Nice polish on this one and funny story. I was scared as hell of the old man. I didn't get very far though, got stuck on Level 2 after trying several times.

Lightbulb Robot Escape by Jonatron 2011-08-27T14:16:00

I'm sorry but I seriously hated having to run an installer and how it didn't even uninstall properly. If I was you I would take down the install links and replace them with zip files asap if you want more people to try your game. Anyway I use Win7, and when I ran it I got the following error...

Unhandled exception: eng\graphics\shader.cpp(150): Throw in function void __cdecl eng::graphics::shader::compile_shader(class std::basic_istream<char,struct std::char_traits<char> > &,unsigned int,enum eng::graphics::shader::stages)

Incomplete Escape Racer! by fenn 2011-08-27T14:06:00

Mode 7 FTW!

Escape!! by kasper 2011-08-23T14:02:00

Interesting dressing for guess a number game but there didn't seem to be a difficulty ramp or penalty for guessing wrong. As the player progresses maybe mix it up with much higher numbers, negative numbers, decimals etc.

LD25 — You are the Villain

Intergalactic Oil Baron Simulator 2012 by Ragepyro 2012-12-17T05:07:00

I'm also on Windows 7 64 bit and it did work. I like the idea of an oil baron simulation. I had some trouble figuring out to play at first but eventually won!

Lord Of Corruption by HeroesGrave 2012-12-17T21:58:00

At first I didn't notice that health and orbs was shown in the title bar, but that's kind of a cool feature.

FActory Villain by metaldemon 2012-12-17T18:20:00

Runs very smoothly on my computer! For the jump sound effect, I have found that sfxr's default jump sound generator is too high pitched, usually I slide the pitch down a bit to compensate.

The last X-MAS by Patji 2012-12-17T15:24:00

Really nice work on the sprites, congrats on your first LD! I was not able to get very far because I cant seem to jump far enough to make it over the first big gap. The graphics are good, the main problem is feels like gravity is pulling down too fast and applying a constant velocity rather then acceleration, does that make sense? If you are already entering this as a jam, you should take a bit more time today and tweak the jump/gravity so it feels better.

Sammich-Napper by Noah Ratcliff 2012-12-17T22:05:00

Glass breaking is awesome! Please change your entry to a simple zip file rather then an installer, most people do not want to go through the trouble of installing a small game to judge it.

Target: Restaurant ! by illugion 2012-12-18T03:44:00

Really nice pixel art. I thought it was a fun idea, well executed, there just needs to be a little more gameplay.

Villain from Nooblord band by gwozdziu 2012-12-17T21:44:00

It ran for me. Cool idea, reminded me a bit of puzzle quest.

Dark World by KilledByAPixel 2012-12-17T17:12:00

Thanks guys! I put up a post-compo version with more solid platforming, bug fixes and overall improved gameplay. I also fixed some of the textures that were too dark. During the comp I had to prioritize and didn't have much time for polish.

For those having any weird control issues try the console command "gamepadEnable 0"

Dark World by KilledByAPixel 2012-12-18T00:12:00

I know exactly what you mean about the controls being a little sloppy, really it all just comes down to some tweaking. I think I have it feeling much better now with only minor changes.

If you get a missing dll message, that is usually because you need to update directx.

In Digito by jonnopon3000 2012-12-17T19:55:00

I like the simple graphic style, it really works well here. So if you are trying to stop your clone from unleashing a virus, how does that make you the villain? The voiceover was a good intro. I didn't beat it but I would have played more if there were save points and it didn't crash when I died.

Video Games Cause Mass Shootings by hydancer 2012-12-22T16:55:00

I like your idea of switching between the videogame world and the real world but I think the topic deserves more reverence then to attempt in a 48 competition. Aside from the story I found the gameplay too repetitive and lacking overall depth. I also thought the theme of you killing children unable to fight back in sub-videogame was unnecessary and confusing what I think your intended goal was with your entry. If you had the enemies in the sub-video game fight back it would have been more fun and I think gain depth. Maybe the sub-videogame is so hard that the player dies and feels like crap when they return to the real world. Also, there are superfluous game mechanics such as having a double jump plus you can use your bullets to propel you.

Green War by MDK_Marshal 2012-12-17T20:11:00

I like how it works like a cellular automata.

The Unseen Strangler by FrozenCow 2012-12-17T23:21:00

The mouse control worked well for me, I thought it was fun, good pacing.

LD26 — Minimalism

Midnight Inertia by Michcioperz 2013-04-30T07:31:00

Best use of the theme so far! Maybe unintentionally though because it seems like the controls don't work. Nice visuals though.

Stranded by vico87 2013-04-29T20:09:00

Really nice to see a text adventure, well done! You should include command synonyms like 'look' and 'get'. Also look into a way to enable better word wrapping that doesn't cut words in half. I made it all the way to the end, it was a nice little adventure, I hope you make another one next time!

Schrodinger by myachin 2013-05-19T23:11:00

That was amazing! My score ~27750. The controls were a little tricky to figure out at first, but after I got the hang of it I was flying through there. The gameplay is a bit repetitive but I think you could definitely expand on the formula to keep players interested, maybe add more particle types and random things that can happen.

Cube Colors by PabloAlexandre31 2013-05-03T19:29:00

Very interesting color mixing mechanic and graphics style. I think it will be hard for normal players to understand that red+green makes orange let alone all the subtle blending involved. My control kept getting stuck so I was constantly pushing to the right, I restarted and it happened again after I died. I got pretty far but I had to give up after that.

Buggers! by recursor 2013-05-03T19:56:00

Cool game, super hard though. I had to give up on the wasp level.

F*** This Job by Casino Jack 2013-05-02T22:23:00

Great style and tech! Good level design but still frustrating by it's nature, I had to give up before the end. Also I think you should change the blood so it's black to stay within the same pallet.

Twinimalism by TenTonToon 2013-05-01T00:10:00

Cool game concept! I like the visual style. I was a little confused at first but eventually figured it out. I think maybe you should show an arrow or something to remind the player which way the stationary dude is going to move when you press/release the button.

Illumbox by TylerC 2013-05-04T19:17:00

Looks and sounds great! Gameplay was fun but you need to ramp up the challenge.

Trapped in Minimalism by eShredder 2013-04-29T20:23:00

Really nice work. I think you could have made it more fun by reducing the amount of things you need to collect, because I feel like this is way too long of a time investment of repetition. I was able to destroy one of the space stations and collected 10 scrap, that was enough for me. I really liked the graphics style and the asteroids reminded me of potatoes. The gameplay felt solid and it ran really well on my computer.

WhiteSpace by argo15 2013-04-29T21:09:00

YouTube video looks cool but when I run the game I only see white. It shows my stats and says use WASD to move and when I click I hear a sound effect but nothing happens.

Triangle Force by HeiShun 2013-04-29T20:43:00

Interesting idea for a shooter. Spacebar should skip text, I didn't realise enter did it at first and sat there waiting like a noob. Using ESDF instead of WASD felt very wrong to me, making the arrow keys also work would have been nice. I wish there was a way to skip the tutorial and get back in the fight quickly after I died.

Guiding Light by cageinabird 2013-05-01T01:58:00

Great visual style and use of theme! Would be cool if the light actually helped you see!

Guru by BrothersT 2013-05-03T20:12:00

Awesome artwork! The fly one was the best, I beat the fish one, but I couldn't figure out what to with the dog.

Pretentious 'em Up! by ArkadyDracul 2013-05-03T17:10:00

Cool graphics, decent gameplay. Enemies get all bunched up on top of each other sometimes. G and R are really weird buttons to use, maybe just merge restart and shoot onto the same button and put it in a more predictable place like spacebar. With the gameplay as you currently have it you might as well just make it automatically shoot, there's no reason to every really stop shooting. Could use more contrast to the gameplay, instead of shooting everything maybe there is something to collect or avoid shooting. Also.. you really aren't supposed to use other people's art for Ludum Dare 48 Hour entries! I would have rather seen something you did yourself.

Newborn by Lowlet 2013-05-03T19:51:00

Very creepy but I couldn't figure out how to get past the falling part. I did notice something glowing way low on the tower after falling off many times but it would be a major pain to get there. Maybe if you allow the camera to turn all the way up/down so we can actually see where we are falling. Visuals were cool but a bit hard to see sometimes.

5 Days On 2 Days Off by BradleySmith 2013-05-01T23:19:00

Cool game, good design flow and visual style! I liked where it was going but it ended too soon.

Phase Shft by nickusername1 2013-04-30T16:49:00

Cool game concept! I made it to the end after being confused for a while because the controls were a bit difficult to grok, I think simplifying them would help greatly. Here's what I'd do...

Get rid of the Z/X select block buttons. Make it so the last block the player held is the selected block. Make the selected block much more obvious like totally change color, there is only a very thin outline. Put the phase shift button on spacebar and/or z instead of down so it isn't confused with movement controls. Make it so a block changes color when it phase shifts, you need to better communicate to the player what's going. After the player has finished a few levels you can introduce more gampeplay concepts like the ability to change which block is selected instead of starting them off with that ability. Generally it works best to start the player out with the minimal tools necessary and spoon feed them new abilities as they progress.

for science! by xandy 2013-05-02T03:08:00

Nice graphics! You should try increasing the angular dampening and the angular acceleration to make the controls better!

Simplification Quest by Adbook 2013-05-16T21:15:00

It's a nice little platformer but I think you overdid it on the jumping over moving blocks thing. You need to change things up so the player isn't repeatedly doing the same action, otherwise it gets really repetitive.

Fiyahfawl by skintkingle 2013-04-30T23:00:00

Nice graphic style, runs well. Very cool how you call down the thumper to collect resources. I think you should make the gun fire faster, even if it still ultimately does the same rate of damage. I also couldn't help but notice that his back arm is very... awkwardly placed. You would probably be better off not rendering the back arm at all.

Mini Epic Adventure by frogmaster 2013-05-16T21:30:00

Wow that is a really cool idea and looks awesome. Maybe there is a way you can include a beginner mode or tutorial section that has on screen text explaining what is going on? Also you might want to open it in windowed mode so players can switch back and forth to the manual easier! With such a simple display scheme maybe you could figure out a way to simplify the play mechanics also, it is a bit overwhelming.

Random Objects Smash by Moist 2013-04-29T16:22:00

Solid entry, controls feel great, clean visuals with some nice effects. I like how there is no shoot button. In practice I'm not sure having the player's aim turn slightly when you strafe is helping gameplay, but that's a minor point.

Lights by corrigan_sam 2013-05-03T16:53:00

Cool idea! There is not enough contrast when a color is lit up. Maybe make the colors go from darker (or even black) to the full color, rather making it more white.

Swimming Fool by blackmagic 2013-05-06T00:43:00

Great graphics and sound. It was hard to control, I couldn't predict which way I would go and got by mainly on trial and error. Maybe you can actually show the gravity wells somehow to better inform the player.

Dehumanizer by UltimateWalrus 2013-04-29T22:15:00

Awesome work and great interpretation of the theme! Looks and plays great and it's even got multiplayer support!

John and the Stairway to Zion by Dissing 2013-05-04T19:10:00

Level design was good but maybe too repetitive. Good visual style, maybe need a bit more contrast between solid tiles and background for some colors.

MNML by docix 2013-05-01T03:58:00

Cool little game concept, good style!

(Follow the) Line by Chman 2013-04-30T17:37:00

Great visuals and addictive as hell. I think you could turn this into a great rhythm music game if you hooked up a beat as your player is moving and trigger sound effects when you turn. This would also help the player get the timing correct.

Darkness by Liikeaturtle 2013-04-29T21:13:00

The game ran well for me and the gameplay was easy to understand. The controls were a bit frustrating because when I hold down a movement button it doesn't continue moving in that direction until after about a second. So I have to rapidly press the directions to move quickly. I survived for about a minute but couldn't find the door.

Block Disco by Jubjub. 2013-05-03T17:35:00

Cool load screen! Gameplay was super fun, good use of theme and physics. Really awesome that you have a global high score screen! Control of jump height height would be a welcome addition.

Inverted by karlin 2013-05-02T22:03:00

Nice deconstruction of platforming game mechanics and level design. Also the invert mechanic worked well and was very satisfying to use! You should try also inverting the player from black to white so he can be seen easier.

Ai'n Av Diortem by awppy 2013-05-02T03:19:00

Worked great with a 360 controller! Nice graphics, it seems like you have a cool little engine there.

A Game of Boxes by DarkX2 2013-05-03T19:42:00

Fun game idea, would be nice to see more. Controls felt a bit weird. Cool way to show the credits.

Rocky Flight Balloon by Smaxx 2013-04-30T22:50:00

Runs well, good controls, good balance, good visual style. Could use more gameplay depth or a more interesting primary mechanic. I know you are going for minimal but you still need to keep a player interested. Also music and better sound effects would help.

Forms LD48 by Prudiiarca 2013-05-03T16:27:00

Cool idea, felt like I was playing something different. Weird how the mouse controls menus but not the game. You need a way to speed up pacing and and increase fun. Like maybe there are enemies you also have to shoot, or colors to match, or some other kind of depth. I only got to the second level and spacebar is nearly worn out!

OggOrbis by Michael Hall 2013-04-29T21:07:00

Really nice work that fits the theme well. Nice level progression, I got to level 11 before I threw in the towel. You should try doing some things to help the player. For example showing trails from the balls would make it easier to judge how they traveled. Also showing the previous place the player touched and leaving the previous trajectories up would greatly help reduce trial and error and allow you to make the levels even more challenging.

Execute by ShinkiroCode 2013-04-29T21:21:00

Cool game concept! I was a little confuse about what to do but I really liked the idea of programming my fight. Nice graphics! I think it would have been more fun if it executed your actions more quickly and shows you more specifically why you failed.

Escape the Minimalism by klianc09 2013-05-03T17:01:00

Way trippy! Solid platforming mechanics, good level design. It seems like you give the star at the very beginning of most of these levels, maybe it would be better if there was more down time to experience the minimalism.

MiniJump by JayPC000 2013-05-01T23:41:00

Nice simple graphics style. Double jump feels good. I made it all the way through. There is a some rendering glitches causing pixel to show on the edges of some textures like the spikes. Maybe try using the wrap or border color render states. Frame rate seemed to drop when a lot of stuff was on screen. Might look more interesting if the background wasn't flat white.

I Dream Of Circles by SpaceStudios 2013-05-01T23:33:00

Cool graphics style. Double jump feels good. I made it all the way through. There is a some rendering glitches causing pixel to show on the edges of some textures like the spikes. Maybe try using the wrap or border color render states. Frame rate seemed to drop when a lot of stuff was on screen.

I Dream Of Circles by SpaceStudios 2013-05-01T23:38:00

Oops, disregard my previous comment that was meant for another game!

I really like your idea of evolving into a circle but I had to give up because the collision detection was too hard to deal with. Good music and I like the visuals but it's too hard to play. Also maybe the player could jump a bit higher.

TOO MANY DISTRACTIONS by kbm 2013-05-03T18:31:00

Awesome work! It's kind of like an OCD simulator. I think you should make the distraction meter go down a little faster when all distractions are clear. I eventually won after a few trys.

Drop it and RUN by Jackamikaz 2013-04-29T17:05:00

Hey, it looks like your dropbox account got disabled so I can't download the windows version. I tried the browser version but box2d was freaking out. Looks awesome though!

Nothing is Impossible by Zekyon 2013-04-29T22:08:00

Nice job, that game is really difficult! I like the concept but if both characters are doing exactingly the same actions then you might as well just show the obstacles on the same screen. In other words the core game mechanic of having 2 separate characters isn't adding anything to the actual gameplay. You need to make the characters do different things for this mechanic to make sense. For example maybe you could make it so when you jump on one screen the other character ducks and vice versa.

(R,G,B) by KilledByAPixel 2013-04-29T19:01:00

Thanks guys! When I was working on it I mostly played with an Xbox 360 controller. I tightened up the keyboard controls a bit in the enhanced version.

(R,G,B) by KilledByAPixel 2013-04-30T04:12:00

Thanks for all your feedback guys!
ataxkt: The zoom time is 4 seconds and you can start moving in after about half that. I feel your frustration though with the controls. In the enhanced version I increased the initial zoom time but decreased subsequent times to 3 seconds and controls are better.
pereubu: I thought the style was pretty consistent. I had it using only geometric shapes at first but I wanted to explore the look more. I get your point though.
vico87: I agree with you here, I tweaked the roll sound a bit post compo to reduce volume and frequency.
Nambew: The controls were a little too loose in the 48 hour entry. I originally had them too tight and over-loosened them. It controls better with an xbox 360 controller. The updated version has tighter keyboard controls.

(R,G,B) by KilledByAPixel 2013-05-01T01:51:00

@Chman - No doubt, I tried to put checkpoints before all the areas you could die but maybe I missed something.
@eBunny - Thanks! I found the controls to be pretty decent once you figure out how to how the spin works, so I'm glad you figured them out. That is a a funny story about the potato, I want to add more to the game so maybe I will include something like that.
@bernhard - Thanks, my engine is starting to get really nice. I've been working on it for years now. I'm glad you figured out how to mess around with the editor, I am continuing to make progress in making it more user friendly. There is also a debug console on ~ with a ton of commands.

(R,G,B) by KilledByAPixel 2013-05-02T02:17:00

@ilo - I think some maybe people are getting confused with how the controls feel "reversed" when you are on the ceiling. To me it just makes sense that right rolls clockwise and left rolls counterclockwise. It's a different way of thinking about things.

@ddionisio - That's weird, I've never heard about that issue with the screen going white before but I'm glad it worked in fullscreen mode at least.

@SuperDisk - Sorry to hear you had such a negative experience. I know the controls could use some tweaks but I played through many times without even dying so they must be at least functional. I think maybe what you mean is that you couldn't figure out how to use the controls properly which is a totally valid complaint I need to work on. I adjusted the roll loop sound, but what sound was the most atrocious? Yeah, it's all Frank engine.

(R,G,B) by KilledByAPixel 2013-05-03T04:25:00

Thanks for all the comments and feedback everyone!

@KEFIR - For anyoone having slow performance try pressing ~ and type lightEnable 0, it won't look nearly as awesome but it should still be playable!

@naufr4g0 - I have not played nightsky but I'm a fan of Nifflas. I will need to play it now for research!

@Jorjon - You need to update DirectX! The version I'm building with is already a few years old so most people are updated by now.

Rocket Boot Camp by Liam :D 2013-05-01T23:46:00

Nice work! That is a really cool visual idea. I think it would be more visually consistent if the player was just a circle rather then a 3D cylinder.

Barren Universe by Tom Gardiner 2013-04-29T16:59:00

Nice game, very well put together, great graphics. The core gameplay mechanic was very fun though there is not a strong connection to the theme. I didn't care for the music or sound effects but it was good that you have them. I like that you can stomp when you are larger, but it seems like a variable height jump would have solved the problem better. Also I think you could just remove the necessity to get to the exit door and end the level once the player reaches the right size or time runs out, this is supposed to be minimilism right? I could not complete the first level after several tries but I have gotten a bit better each time. I feel frustrated because sometimes there is way too much backtracking when you miss a jump, some of that could be fixed with level design tweaks.

The Simple Clicker Game by psc1997 2013-05-16T21:09:00

Cool idea man! I think you need to expand on it a bit to really make it fun but it's a good start.

Filler by TP2k 2013-04-29T16:34:00

Cool game, reminded me a bit of Chime. Maybe you can refine the rules a little so the player has more incentive to fill the holes. One thing that could immediately be fixed is how it gives you 5 points whenever you place a block, you need to remove that. It seems like a simple exploit to just placing blocks as rapidly as possible gaining 5 points each time. Maybe only award the bonus if they but the block down in a clear area. Or you are deducted points for placing a block that overlaps. Also I think it would be more fun and satisfying to the player if after you fill up the holes it keeps them filled up. Then when everything is full it ends the level and shows your your final time and score. Also you should make the mouse work in the opening menu since it's not a keyboard game.

Dehoarder by SmilingCat 2013-04-29T21:40:00

Really cool idea for a game! I think you should streamline the gameplay. Unless I'm not understanding I need to left mouse click then press spacebar for every item I want to get rid of. Maybe just remove the menu that pops up when you click on stuff and just automatically trash it or sell it. This would make things go way faster and also serve the minimalism theme better. Maybe even just simplify the controls even farther so it automatically aims the camera rather then needing to hold right mouse and you just aim the camera at stuff to remove it fps style. It seemed like no matter how much I cleaned more stuff would appear the next day. I think it would be much more satisfying if the goal is to get rid of all the garage until your apartment is totally clean. Those points aside I really enjoyed your take on the theme!

Color Police by ryuurei 2013-05-02T03:13:00

Really interesting concept! I liked the music too but I couldn't figure out how to play very well.

RYB - RedYellowBlue by xethm55 2013-05-02T03:40:00

Cool idea for a game, I like the Mondrian inspired visuals. I wasn't able to play multiplayer but it seems like it would be kind of fun. You should consider implementing an ai opponent so you can play single player.

Babel by Merkoth 2013-04-29T16:14:00

Excellent pallet choice and simple clean visuals fit the theme very well. I also noticed you released on many platforms which is awesome! Controls worked but had an issue where when you hold a key down it takes about a second before it starts moving in the direction, in the same way that holding a button works in this text box. Actually... it seems like controls stopped responding after I switched away and back to your game. I could not figure out the puzzles, it seemed like there was no correct answer. Also I think you need add some kind of "landmarks" to help players navigate. For example if these rune things were actually painted on the walls. After stumbling around I eventually found a blue cube and it disappeared, I will accept that as a victory.

Jet Pack Radio by SystemMenu 2013-05-16T21:20:00

That was fun little adventure! Good level design, good music, just the right length and difficulty.

omph by tikilittle 2013-05-05T18:49:00

Good style, I got stuck at the triangle thing that spins around to make letters, or maybe that was the end?

Be The Wind by dstozek 2013-04-30T00:12:00

Cool concept, fits the theme well and nice music. Reminded me a bit of Flower by thatgamecompany. It would be nice if there was more of a progression to the gameplay or some kind of goal. Also when you are moving in a direction against the edge of the screen it should adjust the camera so you can see farther ahead.

Sequence to Minimalism by ShawnFeatherly 2013-05-02T04:14:00

I'm not sure how to play but interesting concept. Is there a way you can show the equation we are working with?

You Must Escape by GertJohnny 2013-05-01T16:13:00

Cool idea, well executed, good use of theme! I think you could have just skipped the story as it is very cliche and unnecessary especially considering the theme is minimalism. The effect is nice and well used but visually it looks a bit sparse, it might stand out better if the lines were thicker and didn't fade out quite so fast. I felt the movement was a bit slow, maybe a run button would help. While I thought this was a solid entry but I didn't have that much fun playing it because really the only thing making the game difficult is the fact that you can't see well which isn't fun in and of itself. I ended up throwing in the towel after about 5 levels that seemed pretty similar with no change in gameplay so confess that I didn't make it all the way to the end.

BASHLAND - Breakout Mario Mashup by McFunkypants 2013-05-02T22:43:00

Looks and feels great, has lots of fun potential! Full screen mode worked awesome. Reminds me a bit of the game I made, don't blame me if I put breakable blocks in the next version. ;) I feel like I got stuck after I beat the level a few times so I had to stop playing. It would have been nice to see you explore your idea more, it seems like there's a lot more you could do with it.

Deja Vu by Celticraft49 2013-05-01T00:03:00

Cool little game. I think the visual look would be more effective with different color choices. Green and red go terribly together and are commonly associated with Christmas. Also many people have red/green color blindness. You should try to think of a way to add more progression to gameplay, to keep a player interested something needs to change.

Skater Sketcher by JohnBroadley 2013-05-02T03:58:00

Nice art style, needs an objective!

Slimy the slime by fizzics 2013-05-02T03:55:00

Good concept, it was pretty fun! The music was a bit harsh.

Simplyfy by comfycouchstudio 2013-04-30T23:43:00

Really nice visual style style and I like the music. It reminds me of super meat boy. Save points would make this game about 1 million times more fun and should only take a few minute to implement. The controls felt ok, but I think that if you are asking this degree of difficulty from the player then you need to hold the controls up to a higher standard. I can't control the height of my jump for example. As a player I felt overwhelmed by the controls. I get what you are trying to do by overloading the player with skills at first but it would make more sense from a game design perspective if you start the player with less abilities and give them more abilities as they progress, even if you take them away later.

The Minimalizer by johnfn 2013-04-29T17:12:00

Nice game, platforming mechanics were a little difficult to control, I think the player accelerats bit too fast. After getting the gun I eventually got stuck on the same screen as the screenshot here in the area at the bottom of the screen by jumping up from the screen below.

Pulcino by Vincenzo 2013-04-30T21:22:00

Good music, art and use of the theme!

Black vs. White by lathomas64 2013-05-02T04:04:00

Wow interesting twist! I think you should make it keep shooting when you hold fire rather then making so you need to repress it every time.

Flashpants by Egonor 2013-05-01T23:25:00

Funny! Good atmosphere. You should include a bat file to help people run your game easier.

Linemalism by Rubi 2013-04-29T21:57:00

Awesome visuals! Reminded me of Mondrian's painting: Sea and Dock. The gameplay was simple but interesting and unique. Better indicating the next line type is needed or maybe if it just alternated so you would always know. Also you need to increase the difficulty, there needs to be more ways a player can mess up and more rules about what you can do. For example maybe you always have to connect one line with another (you cant put it on empty space), maybe you aren't allowed to add to figures once they are made, maybe you aren't allowed to create closed off spaces, etc.

Context is Everything by mattperrin 2013-05-02T03:24:00

Really cool concept and interesting interpretation of the theme!

Reach the Moon by Nanolotl 2013-05-02T03:32:00

That was absolutely brilliant! I loved it, so imaginative and it made me feel awesome to win. I think one thing you should do is change the end so you actually get to fly away to the moon.

crush. by oatsbarley 2013-05-03T18:36:00

The music and visuals are tied together nicely and follow the theme well. I stopped playing after a few minutes because it didn't seem to be getting any herder. You should ramp up the difficulty!

Curiosity by geckojsc 2013-05-04T19:28:00

Great intro and music, really hard platforming mechanics with the grappling hook! I couldnt get the orange seed that was way up there. Maybe you could ease the player into the difficulty a little slower.

Forest for the Tree by iximeow 2013-05-06T01:48:00

Looks like a really cool idea for a game. I think you need a more visual way to represent the information rather then just numbers. I wasn't sure exactly how to play but it was fun expanding my empire.

Fearless by DragonSix 2013-05-03T19:07:00

Cool graphics! it ran well except some visual glitching on the shadows. You seriously need save points, I had the invisibility and had almost won and now I have to start all over? It needs some kind of indicator of where to go. Also B and A are not good button choices because you have to take your right thumb off the stick, you should put the main abilities on bumpers.

Minimalismism by tayl1r 2013-04-30T23:26:00

Wow that was awesome, I loved it! Really satisfying victory screen. It was perfect how you kept it simple to fit the theme but you should expand on it more now. This would work great as a cell phone game.

Mustache Armies by TurboDindon 2013-05-06T01:40:00

That was fantastic, great work! Does not fit the theme but it was still super fun. I made it through using 45 soldiers.

Super Rope Dungeon by Halfbus 2013-04-30T23:18:00

Good graphics, I don't really see how it fits the theme. Nice rope mechanics. The physics behaved a bit wonky at times like when you jump against a wall.

Hito by lucas_gaspar 2013-05-03T19:36:00

Good presentation. Game involves a bit too much trial and error and is a bit repetitive but otherwise fun. I played for a few screens but you really need to introduce new elements each level to keep players interested.

Web of Despair by J0hnjwj 2013-05-01T00:17:00

The intro was a bit long. Good spider and grass graphics. I couldn't figure out what to do, I crawled along until I got to a corner of the map without ever seeing anything.

More than bricks by Mesene 2013-05-02T15:54:00

Great idea and awesome work! Would be cool to see this continue. You didn't need the voiceovers. Also you should try applying a noise removal filter to your recordings to get rid of the hiss.

Little Planet of Doom by 2A1S 2013-05-02T03:49:00

Nice graphics, didn't seem to fit the theme though. Controls felt good but there wasn't much depth or progression to the gameplay. Also maybe the switches should just automatically get activated instead of requiring the player to push spacebar.

Noise by Diventurer 2013-05-05T19:00:00

I don't know if I'm missing something but I played for a few minutes and not very much seems to be happening. I wouldn't say it was frustrating more like boring, sorry. There was no sense of where to go or what to do. Cool visual style but maybe a little too dark. The music was good.

Orbfuscated by CaptainKraft 2013-05-07T15:11:00

Awesome intro and mood. I was stuck at first because I was using the arrow keys and up didn't jump but left and right worked so I assumed I couldn't jump. After I learned to jump I ran into other control issues. Player should be able to aim straight down. Maybe get rid of the reload mechanic or make it automatically reload if you try to shoot when out of ammo. Switching between bounce and stick seems like an unnecessary mechanic especially to start the player with. There is no indication of which you have selected. When the player is falling there is often no point of reference, you need something in the background, or maybe when he falls his hat goes flying off, anything to let you know you are falling. Aiming kind of sucks, maybe you could show the trajectory the ball will take. I had trouble figuring out how to get in the door as easy as it was. Platforming physics weren't bad but you need to make them super tight for a game like this where jumping on small hard to see platforms is commonplace.

Mad World by patrikspengler 2013-05-03T19:16:00

Cool graphics, gameplay implementation was a bit sloppy. Especially frustrating is how holding the jump button will cause you to jump less high then if you release. I made it to the end. I was annoyed because there was no way to quit, I had to ctrl-alt-delete to shut it down!

Declutter by De10ter 2013-05-05T19:07:00

Cool game idea, works out to be a bit to easy but you can add stuff to fix that. Maybe instead of 1 guy there are several scattered around. Or maybe instead of choosing any piece you have to pick one that matches a randomly chosen color.

Less is More by FacticiusVir 2013-04-29T19:43:00

Interesting game concept. I felt a bit overwhelmed by all the text and choices of what to buy, maybe it would have been better to focus on only a few things. I eventually sort of figured out how to play but the screen flickering and music were kind of distracting.

Line Surfer by FrozenCow 2013-04-30T23:07:00

Cool game concept and good use of the theme! I liked the minimal graphics. Controls felt awesome at times but mostly a bit clunky. There didn't seem to be much of a goal but it was somewhat fun playing around with it. It seems like maybe you could construct a level that the player journeys through or a better set of scoring rules.

Contact: Lost by William Bundy 2013-05-01T00:26:00

Cool graphics, movement controls feel good, has a lot of potential. It is kind of a lot of instructions to hit the player with right away. I'm not really sure what to do but it seems very complicated, maybe there's some way you could make it more... minimal? For example maybe combine collecting the things with killing enemies by making the enemies drop stuff when they die.

Minimalazor by Robotic 2013-04-30T23:57:00

Nice visuals! You should to open your window with the WS_OVERLAPPEDWINDOW style so that we can still move it around. I think the cursor icon was a bit large and distracting, blocking what I am trying to aim at. Really awesome start up sequence. Gameplay was pretty fun, would be cool if there was more of a goal.

Untitled by zaratustra 2013-05-05T18:35:00

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Toy House Attack by floorman 2014-12-10T19:56:00

Good graphics, gameplay is a bit slow.

Colony Planner by spirulence 2014-12-10T20:28:00

I like the intro and voice overs. Overall it seemed put together really solid. As a player though I didn't really understand what to do. There should be some way to lose, if I keep clicking next turn it just seems to keep going.

JumpBall by Stfan 2014-12-09T19:11:00

Nice idea to mix pong and platforming style gameplay. I found it a bit difficult to aim. Maybe the player should be a circle to simplify the physics predictions that players need to think about. Would be nice to have a single player mode. Also you could show the movement prediction vector whenever a player holds the left stick (before they press a), then make them move on press a rather then release a.

Mine Shaft Monsters by AxeTheory 2014-12-10T03:03:00

- solid high level game flow
- firing rate feels strangely slow
- have it fire faster and throw way more at the player.
- it needs to ramp up in difficulty faster and higher
- get rid of ammo component. let players auto fire, maybe add reload or overheat to prevent just holding shoot the entire time.
- vary enemies more. even if it is just making them different sizes or the direction the come in from.
- the main charater looks like a disabled vet in a wheelchair that is going on a killing spree from a nam flashback

Promenade by Gregory Avery-Weir 2014-12-10T01:28:00

I didn't understand how to play very well. I think the initial tutorial would be less necessary if it was more obvious what to do when you are actually playing. I was able to explore and trigger the dance events but couldn't dance for shit. I tried to follow instructions but it was very unclear what to do and fast when the square dance was happening. The square dancing overlay in the lower right is a cool idea but ultimately I have no idea how to play.

Scan Lines by KilledByAPixel 2014-12-09T02:45:00

Thanks guys! I hear you on the difficulty, I need to tighten the platforming mechanics and improve level design. I was really rushed especially with level design. I'm still kind of wrapping my head around how to make best use of the primary mechanic.

Scan Lines by KilledByAPixel 2014-12-09T07:30:00

I noticed a pretty major bug with keyboard controls that may be causing players to have a worse experience. I mostly tested with a gamepad. I put up a link to an enhanced version with hopefully somewhat better controls.

Supermarket Bagman by Pixelfan Games 2014-12-19T18:45:00

Nice work! The intro was great. I think this game could be really fun with just some tweaking of the core platforming mechanics. Wall climbing was a bit difficult. Maybe it would be easier if once a player is sliding down a wall they don't have to keep holding that direction. Also if I press jump while running towards a wall, it plays the jump sound but nothing happens. Also, I'm not sure what the connection was to the theme.

Untitled #31 by f7f5 2014-12-12T23:18:00

Cool aesthetic, also super hard, I died many times before I had to throw in the towel.

Moving Melody by ChuiGum 2014-12-10T03:12:00

- you dont need to release separate 32 and 64 bit executables. 64 machines can run 32 bit just fine for your game
- the game play, art and music are solid enough for a ludum dare game
- save points are essential because I keep dying then have to restart
- after about 10 tries I was able to make it to the part where the 3rd instrument comes in.

Play Area by Halleflux 2014-12-10T16:50:00

Cool idea! I found it somewhat annoying that the screen zooms in, but I guess that was to make it fit the theme better. Also I think you should show the connections between switches and objects automatically without requiring the player to push a button

Too Many Windows by Linkigi 2014-12-10T03:18:00

Great concept! I think the gameplay was a little frustrating. You need to more closely mimic the windows interface. Also maybe start the player with just 1 window and slowly popup more windows after a bit.

One minute & 60 seconds by chadiik 2014-12-09T19:06:00

Cool concept. I didn't realize I needed to click the mouse button to move at first. Some how my character ended up moving around though, possibly because I was working in another window as I played. Maybe just make the player always try to move towards the mouse cursor.

Dispense With Chaos by colludium 2014-12-12T23:25:00

Cool idea. I like how the level is changes while you play. I feel like the action moves a bit slow and I find myself clicking around randomly. Maybe just have the pieces automatically explode if 4 are touching without requiring the player to click.

Screen Saver by Vtor 2014-12-09T19:29:00

Cool concept. I feel there should be more of and effect when the player gets points from a matching coin. Like the coin should explode and then put down a new random coin somewhere else. Also, I think having a separate inner color on the coin just adds additional confusion.

Slidey Box by Arkrothe 2014-12-09T19:23:00

Fun little game, challenging and addictive. I like the extra touch of having the score text mapped to 3d surfaces.

Force Feedback by kumoi 2014-12-16T01:47:00

I like the twist of recreating car physics in the room objects. The driving physics could use some work, though it's easy enough to drive around the track. Would be nice to see better tweaked physics, multiple gears, e-brake that lets you drift easier, also bumping into walls needs to be more forgiving. Also adding lap time scoring that tracks the fastest lap would be a quick way to hook up more gameplay. Maybe even throw in some speed boosters or hazards on the track. It would also be cool to see more of the meta game elements, like maybe after you are playing for a while you have to eat, use the restroom, or answer the phone.

Bounds of Space by Thought Reactor 2014-12-10T19:08:00

I didn't get the "on steroids" part, it just felt like a pretty generic asteroids clone. I really think you need to screen wrapping to push the asteroids feel. I thought it was a solid game but I got bored after a few minutes and crashed my ship on purpose. Really nice having online leaderboards!

Tree and Fairy by twelveplusplus 2014-12-10T01:19:00

Good start, I feel like it could be several times faster and I wouldn't mind.

PigeonReproducer2000 by maybeimelias 2014-12-12T00:40:00

Cool idea, this is basically a racism simulator, not sure if that's what you intended but interesting.

Hockey Slash by metalchouchen 2014-12-11T23:20:00

Good concept and solid prototype, needs to difficulty faster, I got bored after having not been damaged at all by wave 4 and just killed myself. I only played by myself but maybe you should introduce some competitive elements rather then making it purely coop.

Don't Eat The Damsel by intersectiongames 2014-12-10T19:17:00

I liked the blue dragon. Would have been cool to see some art of the town burning when I lit it on fire. You could use the same village art but just add some flames and burnt stuff.

Tourney Knights by monkeedude1212 2014-12-11T23:39:00

Cool idea to make it about catching flowers instead of just clobbering your opponent! Controls were hard to use and AI wasn't very much of a challenge.

Escape The Abyss by Paperscraps 2014-12-13T17:39:00

Nice work, this is a solid prototype!
I liked how you tried out a different kind of control mechanic using the mouse, but in practice I'd rather just have direct control. Especially with stuff like ice where the character will slide past the target point, I end up just clicking rapidly. A lot of the difficulty ends up being caused the controls which can be frustrating.
Good to see different mechanics every few levels to keep things interesting.
I won! 60 deaths.

GTAlien by Pulsartronic 2014-12-16T06:18:00

Nice produced. Looks really good but animations blending is a bit jankey. Combat feels satisfying, both attacks feel kind of similar, maybe have a running attack. Maybe some of the pedestrians can choose to fight back when see you kill someone rather then run away.

Sheep enchanter by jsmtux 2014-12-16T22:59:00

That was really hard and I didn't save any sheep. I managed to get some gold sheep to the rainbow sheep but they wouldn't follow. It would be good if players could press space again to make sheep stop following.

rougish by kraln 2014-12-13T17:20:00

Nice idea to go old school!
Maybe you could simplify more. Remove S button, put status up at all times. Remove breadcrumbs. Maybe even auto attack.
Should this music be in the game, it was composed by Beethoven right?
Kind of a stretch to make this follow the theme. I would have rather seen a smaller rogue-like that fits everything onto one screen or something like that.

ERROR: Could not load graphics by Renaldo 2014-12-19T04:22:00

rendering system is pretty cool, i like the scan line effects
entering the first terminal felt really cool
rendering and game feels laggy, like you might be doing something wrong on the low level rendering.
let users press ~ to toggle the terminal on and off. and have it slide down like the half life debug console
needs to be more commands available, like as you progress you discover new commands by finding them in the sub-terminals
I won!
when you type exit from the highest level it should quit the game
i didn't hear any sound or music
cool concept, you should keep working on it!

Quiet Life by VDZ 2014-12-10T02:50:00

Hey, congrats on makign a ludum dare game! Some advice here...
- Be less verbose in your game description. Try to stick to a short description.
- In the tips section your are mentioning many very things that confuse me as a new player.
- When I use an axe next to a tree (or any object next to anything) if there is only one thing it can be used on then don't require the user to manually select the direction.
- Ultimately you need to streamline your player's controls, try to put yourself in a new player's shoes.
- After dying once from starvation I am starting to figure out what to do.
- I think having the relevant info on the right inst helping because I keep having to look over.
- Make Holding and Under You items more prominent. Like bottom middle of screen
- I am starving and trying to kill a sheep with an axe to make food and it won't let me.
- I would kill a sheep or light something on fire if I knew how, but I can't seem to figure it out.
- I bashed a sheep's brains out with a stone from desperate starvation, but can't seem to eat it and died.
- I managed to make a wooden wall before starving for a 4th time.
- I made a shovel. Made clay, I keep making kilns while starving.
- After way too much time I was able to chop up sheep meat with an axe to recover a tiny fraction of hunger. I will take that as a small victory.

LD33 — You are the Monster

Monster Typer by Jezzamon 2015-09-07T23:25:00

- funny idea
- needs more feedback when you succeed or fail each level
- music was catchy

Gorgon Zoƫ by berkano 2015-09-03T20:59:00

- like the idea of changing to/from a monster only when no one is looking
- good music
- as a monster i feel it should be easier to kill sheep
- why do people kill me in one hit?
- fights seem to go on for a long time, like a sheep is healing faster then i can kill it

Escape From Twump Tower by 01010111 2015-09-07T22:44:00

- opening is amazing
- great concept, good to see ludum dare used for political commentary ;)
- music is pretty good but gets a bit repetitive
- pixel art looks great, twump's sprite is awesome
- great nes nostalgia, reminded me a bit of chip and dale rescue rangers
- for some reason my 360 controller isn't working with it
- cool effect for screen transitions
- physics got a big glitch with boxes getting pushed into eachother, maybe you could turn up the physics iterations or something
- I feel like I'm stuck in the room with stars on the wall and a bunch of blocks, I can't seem to stack them more then 2 high

Terror-piesed by cacciatc 2015-08-26T20:15:00

loading took a long time, like 5 minutes or so?
awesome graphics look, reminds me of zelda on game boy
Would be nice if wasd also moved
gameplay wasn't very fun to be honest
i think it would be more satisfying if the pies didn't respawn, but instead you have a time limit to steal all the pies.
maybe humans can set bear traps or something

Earth Was a Bad Choice by zatyka 2015-08-27T02:53:00

Awesome work. I died a few times on the last couple levels but didn't give up. The gameplay was pretty addictive and well polished. Ending was great. Congrats!

Demons in Dungeons II by blay09 2015-08-26T18:54:00

-wall jumping is hard, I had trouble getting past the first area
-can't right click in unity web, eventually figured out that alt is kick
-you don't need to be near blocks to break them
-graphic styles dont mix, some is pixel art, some is like renders
-took me a while to figure out what to do on level 2
-was cool when hoards of enemies started attacking
-enemies had trouble getting to the dungeon heart
-i tried to let enemies kill me but they don't attack
-got really laggy towards the end and almost unplayble, my pc is pretty powerful so not sure whats causing it
-eventually figured out that im supposed to go down and destroy enemy crystals
- I didn't do anything to protect the heart other then place a few traps
- I destroyed the enemy crystals and won, success!

Rogue Like Keeper by paquinn 2015-09-01T02:59:00

- game started up and ran well
- art style looks great, i love how its all nicely arranged to fit one screen
- im not really sure what im doing, which rooms i should buy, or what to take from heros is better
- there is not much feedback after each hero if things are going well or not. after 10 minutes and killing 40 heroes i can't tell how well im doing. I'm still on the first dungeon so i guess thats good?
- maybe new heros should automatically keep spawning, and some times multiples at once.
- its hard to follow what is going on, needs some better icons, and seeing the health and stuff for each monster is like an overload of information
- the game seems a bit too complicated in general, which i appreciate is difficult to craft but needs to be simplifed so players can understand the space of what is happening

Squid Pro Quo by TijmenTio 2015-09-07T23:22:00

- great art style, feels really fun to look at, really nice water effects
- good re-use of stuff for different levels
- it was cool hearing the music change as level progressed
- i kept clicking off the window even though it was full screen, that made it difficult to play
- i could not figure out how to kill the blimps, but I didn't want to start from the beginning again after i died.
- an option to continue would be nice
- more precise control would help, i often couldn't predict how I was going to swing. after reading comments it seems like maybe the mouse cursor was supposed to be visible, but for me it wasn't

Adam by elemel 2015-08-29T18:36:00

- graphics look nice
- music is alright, not really fitting to the theme though
- i like how you can throw a villager at another villager
- Shift is probably not a good key for throwing, windows kept prompting me about turning on sticky keys
- i managed to escape by going to the right for a while until i fell offscreen

The Skullcatcher by CrownCity 2015-08-30T03:55:00

Graphic style looks awesome, great animation, really feels fun to look at. Music was good too and added to the gamboyesque style. The screen panning was a bit jittery in motion. Gameplay needs to ramp in difficulty it never got any harder and actually got kind of easy once i figured out what to do and how to game the ai. Could use a bit more variety also and could have been a bit shorter, but I stuck through till the end. Great work overall!

Monster Hotel by Levi D. Smith 2015-09-03T22:54:00

- fun concept
- graphics look good
- good that you had music but it doesn't seem to fit
- needs a button to speed up the game
- game was a bit short
- mechanics work well together, would like to see some more advanced puzzles

The (other) Thing by anjack 2015-09-09T19:04:00

- interesting idea
- i like being able to talk to the scientists
- sometimes text overlapped and i couldn't read it
- congrats on experimenting with a new idea, i hope you continue working on it

The Monster I Am by KilledByAPixel 2015-08-25T01:50:00

snakezito Thanks, I agree on that. Need to polish the platforming more.

The Monster I Am by KilledByAPixel 2015-08-27T02:31:00

Thanks for the comments so far, getting some good feedback. I guess I really screwed up the platforming mechanics. Thought maybe the lowered gravity would help with sense of scale, but needs better jump/air control. I combined the jump and grab button to try to simplify.

Dungeon Hunter by Tom Rijnbeek 2015-08-26T19:33:00

Nice job! Plays pretty well, but gameplay is a bit on the slow side.

They Dug Too Deep by GoudaGames 2015-08-27T18:16:00

- Worked ok at first but the couple times I played I got to a point where I couldn't jump high enough to reach the next ledge.
- Ah ok, after reading comments I discovered there is a wall jump.
- wall jump feels good, i like how it sticks there
- Framerate started getting really choppy after a while.
- Soild effort overall!

Angry face by Pat AfterMoon 2015-08-31T23:15:00

- took me a while to figure out that i need to avoid buildings. maybe have the player flash and shake when they take damage
- if you just let the game sit there it will go for a while just on it's own
- jumping felt really weird, like it is somehow animated rather then physical
- parallax background cityscape is a nice touch

Purple Monster Attack by KuGrou 2015-09-11T21:12:00

- controls were hard to get used to
- i feel like turn left and right are backwards
- good music
- the camera is a bit frustrating
- graphics look cool and i like the physics on his dreads
- not much there in terms of gameplay but seems like a good start for something

Clickacabra by foolmoron 2015-09-07T23:07:00

- good concept for clicker game, day night cycle works well to give player time to buy stuff
- better art would really help
- an ending would be nice, just to feel some kind of resolution
- it should say the name of things on each icon
- needs to show more stats, like how many days have i been playing, how many people died total, etc.
- i didn't find any diamonds :(

Hymn of the Sages by PowerSpark 2015-09-01T05:20:00

- intro is a little slow to get into the gameplay
- graphics are good
- having trouble figuring out what to do, i am on the stage that says "keep your body away from the light"
- can you put up some tips on how to play?

Shadow Fright by togie 2015-08-27T23:34:00

The game runs, I hear music and see a circle shaped character moving around and talking. There's a box at the bottom to enter text. But nothing I do seem to have any effect on the game, so I don't know what I missed but some instructions would help.

The Gold Eaters by OFF 2015-09-11T21:02:00

- good music and atmosphere
- graphics look good
- text goes away before i can finish reading it sometimes
- attacking needs work, i cant tell the range and really needs a sound
- i died and then nothing else happened

Grave by uheartbeast 2015-08-30T03:38:00

Pretty cool, I love the simplicity, art worked really nicely, music helped create the mood. I played about 4 times and got up to 48 kills before I gave up. I think the difficulty could ramp faster. Maybe I missed something but would be cool if coins did something. Amazing work overall!

Orphan by Rialgar 2015-09-11T20:55:00

- story seems interesting
- screen layout seems pretty well thought out
- a deer is quite a bit of food, that should last months right?
- gameplay is a bit repetitive

You are the Monster by pokepetter 2015-09-09T19:12:00

- music helps build atmosphere but is a bit repetitive
- art style looks cool
- i don't know what to do, I walked right and eventually got to my monster then I can't seem to do anything else. I tried every key. Maybe I missed something?

Minion Army by aucguy 2015-09-01T03:19:00

- seems like an interesting idea
- screen layout is a bit jankey,i like the color choices though
- instructions seems like a wall of text.
- i don't know what im doing, dang it, i just lost somehow.
- i can't figure out how to get more minions, i need food to summon them and feed them and they dont' seem to make any more
- i figured out how to move people to different areas, so that's something

Prince Charming! by kozun 2015-09-03T23:02:00

- good use of theme
- really nice graphics style
- good music
- frog sounds were kind of annoying
- i wanted to rip frogs limbs off, poke it's eyes out, etc
- cool that you can buy upgrades
- upgrades seems kind of pointless because there is not much to gameplay
- not all that fun because there's not really a way to fail
- frog seems invulnerable, how does it not die?
- maybe goal should be to see how long you an torture it without killing it so quickly. maybe have some upgrades like morphine, bandages and stuff so you can try to keep it alive longer.

Who's The Monster by wellingtonbecker 2015-08-27T02:41:00

Nice little game. I liked how the direction changed.

Sticky Pudding by Headmade 2015-09-04T21:48:00

- interesting gameplay concept
- i liked the music, reminded me of monkey island
- doesn't seem to have much to do with theme
- gameplay was really hard and a bit frustrating, but also kind of fun
- breaking it up into separate levels or checkpoints would help
- the furthest I got was pure luck, i did a flip and ended up going really fast but didn't make it to the end

You Have Killed Them by Boehrsi 2015-08-29T18:29:00

- graphics are simple but work well to show whats going on
- kind of fun, but was really easy to kill the target
- enemies don't seem to react to me at all
- killed myself without killing anyone else, would have been nice to get different ending
- gameplay needs more depth. like maybe enemy's that are moving along a path. random levels would be cool

Investigation of the Empty House by TrashLord 2015-08-29T17:59:00

- cool art style
- interesting idea
- story was creepy but I couldn't figure out what happened to the family
- maybe i missed something but seems like story could have used more depth and a conclusion

Bus Crush by Selzier 2015-09-11T19:15:00

- looks good
- physics are a bit wonkey, but that made it kind of funny
- good music
- bus looks weird, no shading, tiny tires
- buildings in the background look great
- very difficult to control and keep kids in the bus
- doesn't seem to fit the theme
- after several tries i can't get to the end, i feel through no fault of my own

Tentacle Blockade by mahalis 2015-08-27T03:07:00

Nice game. Style is good, nice take on theme. Grabbing and throwing ships was fun. Could use more variety and a win condition. Like maybe the meter is going up instead of down. When a ship gets there it goes down, but if it gets filled up then you win.

eight sins by upisfree 2015-08-31T17:54:00

- i got no clue what's going on here or how to play
- graphics are seizure inducing, but i appreciate that you tried something different
- i like the concept
- text was interesting, i wanted to know more about the story

Kill It With Fire by StabAlarash 2015-09-02T20:53:00

- good intro
- graphics look great
- music is good but loop is super short
- interesting take on the theme
- needs some abilities
- i tried following the river and ran into an invisible wall
- who is the real monster here?

Project Box by klbrazil 2015-09-05T14:54:00

- good concept
- gameplay and mechanics feel pretty fun
- checkpoint system would help
- you should keep working on it get an artist to help

Shadows and Cats by MoreRPG Team 2015-09-11T21:08:00

- graphics look kind of cool, i like the tilt shift effect
- hiding in the shadows is kind of fun
- feels like i need something to attack me
- it's a bit too easy, i feel like there's no threat from anything
- i ate like 80 people and now i can't find anymore

Hydro Carbon by bentglasstube 2015-09-01T03:31:00

- awesome concept
- music is good
- boat is a bit slow
- boats would be more fun to control if they weren't limited to grid based movement and had some momentum
- i like how the oil spreads
- ending was cool

Over The Course Of A Day by Blobo 2015-08-27T23:42:00

The character moves like insanely fast on my pc, almost unplayable. Like I acidentally press a direction for a split second too long and the character goes flying offscreen and won't come back. I like the concept though and how it mixes up a bunch of different mini game type ideas.

Guard-Master by sonelliot 2015-08-27T03:02:00

Fun idea. I had trouble finding the intruder. At first I didn't realize that I was supposed to search inside stuff. Then I think I had him trapped in a crate but he wouldn't come out, maybe it was a bug. Mostly I had trouble searching. Having 3 guards didn't help all that much, like I want to be able to triangulate or trap him somehow. I finally won just by shooting randomly a lot and got lucky. ;)

You came in peace by CADmiy 2015-09-11T05:27:00

- bullets need to be more visible, make them larger and brighter
- if you really want peace, why not just leave the planet when people get hostile?
- it's hard to tell if I'm doing anything when I shoot the hypno ray
- graphics are good enough but feels very stiff
- sound is a bit of an overload, not sure what is causing what
- needs some kind of score or win condition

Dudes in Space by TheOlinone 2015-08-26T23:25:00

at first i didn't realize my ability was working but then i figured out that i needed to hold space for a while
i don't see how this has anything to do with the theme
i got 6/7 keys, cant figure out how to get the one in the locked room in the lower left. It says the door can't be hacked, i tried every other ability on it
ah, figured it out after reading the comments here, I ran out of bombs. I don't think anyone would object if you put up a fixed version with unlimited bombs
i got all the keys, set the ardvarks free but don't know what to do to escape
i found what looks like an escape pod in the lower right area but don't know how to use it.

Dwarf stole my Gold! by Wakefield 2015-08-31T17:49:00

- graphics look good, dragon is cool, blood effects are a nice touch
- congrats on your first programming attempt, programming seems solid, it's mostly the design that needs work.
- needs more difficulty and difficulty needs to ramp up faster
- what's the downside to constantly firing as fast as possible?
- if a dwarf steals my gold and i kill him then why do I still lose gold?
- why don't any enemies try to attack me at all?
- i let it just sit without attacking to see what would happen and it took about a minute before I lost, that is a long time of doing nothing
- the fireball attack on z seems kind of pointelsss
- game froze up a few times when I click away and back in chrome

CYCLE by Dianouille 2015-08-31T18:06:00

- doesn't seem related to the theme
- graphics look good and i like the concept
- i have no clue what I'm doing or what the goal is
- i don't know why fire is necessary to make a garden
- would be more interesting if the garden just grew and evolved while I was playing instead of showing that part at the end where everything is growing.

I like brain by Artefale 2015-08-27T02:28:00

I tried to run Like+a+Monster.exe and an error popped up saying it cant run. If that is just the installer maybe you can try zipping it. This was the error:

The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

Trees That Kill by irwatts 2015-08-28T21:29:00

- Nice work! I just tried playing for multiplayer with the guy who sits next to me and it worked with out issues.
- Lighting looks pretty sweet when you get near one of those globes.
- Stipple graphics was an interesting style
- Looks pretty tripy.
- Music was nice and ambient.
- Running and jumping feels good.
- Actual gameplay needs some work, but is functional. I didn't get to play for very long though.

No More Mr. Nice God by Wekid 2015-08-31T23:04:00

- graphics look good, but some things are a bit blurry
- music is good but doesn't seem to fit
- don't understand the goal
- where are these people coming from and who are they fighting?
- i felt like it was impossible to kill people without taking damage

Hungry Dragon by cadaeibfe 2015-08-27T03:29:00

Good pace, sound effects worked well. Just needs more depth but the core gameplay you have here is solid.

Dark Lord by AlexSet 2015-08-29T18:13:00

- graphics look good, you should try attaching a point lights to the more stuff, like the orbs you shoot.
- movement feels good
- i cant seem to kill enemies
- it is hard to aim the laser
- i managed to win, by just avoiding enemies
- a few times i had problem where it let the mouse go off the screen and when i clicked it got minimized

RGBlob by 966623 2015-09-02T21:09:00

- i liked that it had music, but i found it to be slightly irritating
- got stuck a few times inside physics
- didn't seem to fit the theme
- interesting color mixing puzzles
- platforming mechanics are kind of rough
- i was confused about the rules for how to join together, sometimes it seemed like it didn't work

Drain Reaction by AtomicWasteInc 2015-09-02T22:56:00

- took a really long time to download and startup
- graphic style looks good
- controls feel good
- i got the first wave, but it's a bit repetitive
- needs more difficulty and more aggressive enemies

Suicide Bomber Simulator by switchu 2015-08-26T20:56:00

move speed was slow, try speeding up everything at least twice as fast, maybe more
didn't understand the point of cars.
why delay exploding?
could be more fun with additional gameplay mechanics

Blood, The Monster is You by mikethingsbetter 2015-09-11T05:21:00

- interesting story, I was riveted
- good take on the theme
- extremely linear, needs more branching to be called a proper game. even just one off things a player could examine for extra detail.
- multiple endings would help, at least a good and bad ending
- art was a good idea to help grab the player but doesn't match the story. maybe I missed it but I don't remember anything about a rose and it doesn't seem to make sense in the context

Be:ComeMonster by duduuzera 2015-09-01T03:10:00

- didn't run in chrome, worked find in firefox
- good intro, graphics look really good
- kind of hard to figure out how to play, you need to help players know what to do. so when player needs to be clicking high/med/low attack, higlight those buttons
- im just randomly clicking stuff, beat the first monster i think but im not sure
- feedback after clicking buttons seems too delayed
- music is a bit repetitive short loop
- im trying to lose on purpose now to stop playing but i can't even seem to do that
- ok... i guess i beat it? cool end music

Saturday Morning Destruction by roaringcatgames 2015-09-03T20:51:00

- looks awesome, i was really excited to play this one
- great concept
- nice to see game that supports 2 players
- key prompts didn't seem to match up with music very well, this is really crucial for this type of game.
- i had the same problem as others with the awsd keys, I kept pressing the wrong button, would be better if they were keys on the same row
- it was hard to tell how well i was doing

When the Stars are Right by LTyrosine 2015-09-04T21:37:00

- looks fantastic
- good use of theme
- movement was a bit slow, but pretty fun to control
- a bit difficult but i managed to bring some stars closer

Robot Rampage by Dietrich Epp 2015-08-29T18:21:00

- video intro was a fun idea
- music is awesome but sound effects are too loud to hear it
- gameplay felt kind of pointless without enemies, collision, physics, etc.

The Orator by PapyPilgrim 2015-09-11T19:08:00

- interesting concept
- i have no idea what I am doing
- i am basically clicking on icons randomly with no feedback
- can you explain better how to play?

LD34 — Two Button Controls / Growing

Get Sun by irwatts 2015-12-14T19:07:00

Sick graphics, reminiscent me of flower. Lots of nice touches like the fov effect on restart. Gameplay feels good. Needs a difficulty ramp, I got to 100,000 with no end in sight. I had some difficulty at first gauging my speed versus the sun drops, I think the problem may be that the camera is angled slightly down, try aiming the camera along the same vector as movement. Also, I think you should simplify the camera by removing the roll component so the planet is always down. Nice ambient music. Great work!

Growing Wings by Fadobo 2016-01-03T21:46:00

Art style was cool. Gameplay was a bit too slow and easy. The twist at the end of level 1 caught me by surprise but didn't change things enough. Fun idea though. Nice ambient music.

Rude Bear Recreation by Alex Rose 2015-12-30T01:16:00

Nice work! Great art and music, overall excellent presentation. Level design was good though I found the primary mechanic to be frustrating, landing precise jumps without air control. Still I pressed through and beat it after many save points. I think it would have been interesting to see a better use of the 2nd button.

The Temple of Horyuji by ZYXer 2015-12-30T00:33:00

Nice art style. Gameplay was well designed and fun. Felt a bit boring at time collecting resources. Controls could use some massaging, particularly pressing left & right at the same time needs to be more reliable. Could use a bit of story, the world seems interesting and I want to know more. Mood is great but music and sound would have made it even better. Still though after having my level 4 temple destroyed I'm tempted to give it another run. Awesome work overall.

Murphy's chaos garden by BooleanByte 2016-01-02T03:12:00

Looks trippy, I like cellular automata stuff. Having some trouble figuring out what to do. It looks like the arrow keys change temp and pollination values randomly and I don't understand the effects.

Sumo Twomo by foolmoron 2015-12-30T01:00:00

Nice to see you delivered a working unreal game! Seems like a solid concept. It's a bit difficult to control but I like the way you utilized 2 button input. I wasn't able to play 2 players, seems like that would be fun though, needs some ai.

Growvolution by pi_pi3 2015-12-30T00:48:00

Interesting art style. The fov is kind of weird, maybe try an orthogonal projection, that would also help with the billboard sprites when the pass directly below. Also, the player's color kind of blends in with the background, I think an outline would help. Gameplay was a bit slow, just chasing around helpless animals for a few minutes. Didn't notice a big difference from the level ups, I hoped it would make a big speed increase or give powers. I managed to kill 1 human before another one killed me.

Don't Burst The Blob by seurimas 2015-12-15T02:34:00

Awesome work. Control mechanics feel really good. I love the start menu, all the modes seem pretty much the same to me though. I like the graphical look, the blob looks great and the effects when he dies are nice. The spikes could stand out more, they kind of blend in with everything. Nice variation to levels with moving blocks and gravity reversals. Music and effects work well, reminds me like an old school dos game.

Evolve by fortytwo-studio 2016-01-03T22:05:00

Cool concept but very hard to play. You need to remove the roll component. Also lock mouse in center. And add collision to move in camera, and move the camera closer to the fly. My fly keeps getting stuck when i'm trying to eat the sugar cubes.

Runaway Rob by dkdwrek 2015-12-15T02:48:00

Game works well. Music is a bit repetitive. Difficulty could be higher. Nice to see you did a lot of graphics but they are a bit sloppy, maybe would have been better to focus on putting in less things of higher quality. Also, it's kind of random, like I'm a robot and I can fly but there are zombies and aliens. There is something kind of glitchy going on with the tile scrolling for me, not sure whats causing it.

Ninja Run by DarthThomas 2016-01-02T03:20:00

Solid game but needs work. Graphics and music are ok but Gameplay is kind of boring and doesn't make great use of the 2 button controls. A variable height jump is needed. Also would be cool if enemies attacked back or throw ninja stars.

The War of Japants by Blobo 2015-12-15T02:53:00

Nice graphics and concept. Camera got a bit glitch at times like when jumping up through the tunnel, which was really cool otherwise. Jump could be a little farther, some of the jumps seem impossible. Hitting enemies with the ninja star was really hard. Good music.

Space Beards by Gjarble 2016-01-02T03:25:00

Funny idea but execution needs work. Controls don't seem to fit the game at all. The green bar at the bottom is confusing. I am stuck on the second level for the second time after resetting and still don't know how to progress.

EyeGuy by zacerhy 2015-12-14T18:52:00

Works fine in firefox. Music is a bit harsh. Core mechanic feels good, could be a little faster to change size. Also would like to see more drastic variation in size. Solid game overall.

Scrap Yard Racing by lastnerd 2015-12-15T03:06:00

Nice game, good variation of levels with a few simple assets. Good difficulty, I played though all the levels only dying a few times.

Electric by Madsj 2015-12-15T03:11:00

Awesome music. Graphics were simple but work well. Gameplay feels good, could use a little more variety.

Aloft by synthsmitty 2015-12-15T02:40:00

Nice game, good presentation. I like the music. Kind of a stretch to fit the theme, you could have put in another button for something. I also agree it could be a little more difficult, maybe increase the speed over time like there is a faster wind, or a storm.

Sector 9 by alvaromartin 2015-12-15T03:00:00

Cool intro. Level design is good but really hard, you really need to add some checkpoints. Musics is good. I'd really like to see what else is here but I've tried level 2 like 30 times and it's just way too hard. I feel like I could struggle for 10 more minutes just to get past level 2.

Growth Control by Akhera 2016-01-03T21:38:00

Looks interesting but was difficult to figure out how to play. I like the concept, graphics look good. Having some kind of on screen display would help. Controls don't work the way I expect them to. Sometimes a turret won't shoot and I don't understand why.

Asteroid League by mlepage 2015-12-15T03:23:00

Nice to see a multiplayer game but needs ai. Controls were a bit difficult, I think maybe the turn speed is too high. Music was good but sound effects were annoying. Graphics look good, you need to make the scores bigger.

Skyway by Decentsauce 2015-12-15T02:25:00

Nice little game. Controls feel good, procedural level works well. I don't hear any sound, not sure whats up with that. The speed increases come on a bit fast and unexpectedly. Visuals work well enough but I think you could have just went fully abstract.

Shahid Kamal Ahmad by shahid 2015-12-30T00:09:00

Doesn't seem to run on my windows 7 lap top, I think everything is up to date.

Hallowhearth's Last Stand by RiOrius 2015-12-15T03:19:00

Kind of difficult to figure out how to play. Sometimes the game just seems to end. I got over a few 100,000 and it didn't save m score. I think the gameplay would be more fun if the player had more control over the characters.

Colonize by WeirdMind 2015-12-14T18:45:00

I am having some trouble selecting buildings, partially because I keep trying to drag them into the world. It would be cool if the world had some different types of terrain, like a river or mountains. I don't understand how to assign humans to stuff. Ok, after clicking on literally everything I figured out that I need to click on the + button next to building, really confused why it says 99 there and the plus button changes the number next to the -, but ok. You should prompt the player if they try to end turn with unassigned humans. It doesn't seem like placement of buildings has any effect on the game, you could have just simplfied and left that out. I played all 100 rounds, final score 6250. I couldn't figure out how to get more then 12 humans, not sure if that was a limit or i needed to build more. Good start for a strategy game here, I think you should try to simplify things and work on ui to better inform the player and make choices more understandable.

FlOBA (fixed server!!) by RHY3756547 2016-01-03T21:56:00

Good graphics and music. Gameplay seems overly complicated and laggy or something. Its better to keep things simple, as a player I'm very confused. It would be impossible to attempt to balance this many permutations during a compo. Also for theme, it's nice that it's a 2 button game, but in this case it doesn't add anything but instead makes it much more difficult to control.

LD44 — Your life is currency

The Tree of Bounty by gelisam 2019-04-30T00:14:53Z

Cool idea! I love combining tree growth with a strategy game. Nice art too. I wasn't sure how exactly to play but I managed to grow my tree about half way but I couldn't get it to grow further. The music loop was a bit too short.

The Akolythe and the Amulet of Andhor by zondarg 2019-04-29T22:19:10Z

That was cool. The graphics were good and movement felt fast. The combat was a bit bare bones, I don't know if there is any strategy to it. I beat it on my first try, feels good. Ok, I just read that I could have cast fireballs, I didn't know that I could but it didn't seem necessary.

Venture-Out! by 64mega 2019-04-29T21:46:04Z

I like the concept! Good pixel art, reminded me of playing arkanoid in dos long ago. It was fun breaking stuff. The ball control was a bit lacking, usually it is possible to control by paddle position or movement, but it always seems to bounce the same way here. The music was such a short loop, I had to turn it off after a few minutes. I liked that you could launch multiple balls, but don't understand why it would be useful. I unlocked one chest and threw in the towel.

GREED by mmason 2019-04-29T16:04:19Z

I liked the visual aesthetic, going gray-scale was good choice. The gameplay was a little bit dated but otherwise serviceable, platforming mechanics worked well enough. Something very odd is going on with the framerate of the game, it was very choppy for me.

I made it to the end! The grim reaper gave me a bunch of coins, I don't know why.

Slime, Blood and Pain by Steffo 2019-04-30T17:58:09Z

I like the sound and art! Instead of pressing A and Esc all the time to switch between attack mode, maybe just get rid of attack mode, and automatically attack enemies you move into?

SPENDOTRON: 2019 by KilledByAPixel 2019-04-30T18:42:32Z

Thanks for the awesome feedback everyone! I'm very interested in difficulty because one problem I have with most LD games I play is that they are too easy, so I really turned up the difficulty here. I think it is mostly fair and balanced. I spent a lot of time playtesting and tweaking values during the comp. Please post your high score after playing, that is the single best metric I can use to gauge difficulty.

SPENDOTRON: 2019 by KilledByAPixel 2019-05-10T16:07:05Z

@irwatts - Dang, I meent to tweak the hit boxes but I forgot, they are all square.

@gwinnell - No longer is that possible. I locked the res at 1080p ;)

@geckoo1337 - Thanks for the kind words! If you are interested in an even simpler & cleaner version, check out the code for Queens Gambit - https://js1k.com/2019-x/details/4211 This is what I built on top of for spendotron.

@poovi - Aside from the graphics, your life meter in the game is literally currency that you spend to fire your weapon and lose some of when you respawn.

Goodbye Limbs by irwatts 2019-04-29T15:52:03Z

Hey Ian! Nice work, and awesome low poly ass! Cool procedural animation system, it was fun and funny to use! Reminded me of qwop or gang beasts. The game ran great on my system, solid 60 fps. The world looks nice, great lighting and colors. I liked the font choices too. Congrats!

Instagram Boyfriend by ultrarat 2019-04-30T00:06:33Z

Cool art and music, I had absolutely no idea how to get a good score. I dont know what is off brand because i dont know what the brand is.

Value of Life by pokepetter 2019-04-29T15:37:46Z

Wow, beautiful work! I loved the world, in one image you've created a more interesting world then most games. I liked the music too! Great mood setting. One thing that could be improved is polishing the story and writing a bit more, though I enjoyed the vagueness of it. Also graphically, it would help to make the scene less static, like maybe break it out into a couple parallax layers with alpha.

Paynplayne by OrbitalBlueprint 2019-04-29T16:34:38Z

I love the graphics and art style and mood. Strong undertale vibe and it's awesome! I liked my character and the witch too.

Mechanically there is a problem evident early on. Health potions cost 8 and refill 20 health. So its easy to get infinite money by standing on the cactus to take damage, then walk in, buy health, heal, repeat. I'm honestly not sure if there was another intended way. I played all the way through though, it was a fun journey. The ending was a slight disappointment though, maybe you could have used some of the dialogue with the other stuff in the game and signs to build up to a more interesting conclusion?

Overall a great entry, thanks for making it!

Grim by Sanavesa 2019-04-30T01:36:22Z

Cool game, I beat Satan! Looks and plays really nice. The combat needs a little fine tuning. I didn't use the throw move at all, it didn't seem reliable, I mostly just hit the fireballs back at enemies or charged in and slashed at them. The upgrades were fun.

Lifeless Treasure by Grewoss 2019-04-29T16:06:41Z

Hi, the windows version doesn't seem to work. I download windows.rar but it can't extract it, the file is 17,780kb

Lifeless Treasure by Grewoss 2019-04-29T17:55:10Z

It worked! Lots of great stuff on this one. The start screen is awesome. Good music. The pixel art is solid, there are some simple things you could do to juice it. For example, I can barely see my own bullets because they are tiny and blend in with the background, make them bigger and brighter! Your bullet speed and fire rate is also slow even with the smg with the fire rate bonus. Turn everything up a few notches, always better to have too much then not enough.

Design wise I felt it needed some work. The choice at the beginning of a weapon was nice but the gameplay didn't evolve after that. My first run I grabbed the sniper rifle and beat the giant slime boss and a few more levels then I honestly got bored and let them kill me so I could try a different weapon. I didn't use the dodge mechanic at all.

The enemy ai and movement could be more interesting and reactive to the player. For example the slime and deeroach just move towards you in slightly different ways, you don't need both. For the slime boss I just shot him from a distance and it was underwhelming, the lizard things were more fun to fight. Another important thing that seems missing is I didn't know what round I got too or how well I did.

I had fun though, I love shoot em ups! I think with a tweaking pass you could make the gameplay super fun. Congrats!

Flash Dash Dungeon by Raymoclaus 2019-05-02T03:04:25Z

I think you have a really good start here! Good concept and art! You need to improve the combat though, and more importantly there needs to be a reason to fight, it seemed like my best option was to avoid it.

I think you can actually make it much more fun only changing a few tiny things, try this idea: Spawn way more enemies but make them only take 1 hit to kill. For every enemy player kills they get a few seconds added to their time. Also, don't stop the players movement when they attack, and speed up the level transition, if your game is about being quick, it should echo that everywhere.

Nexcidium by keanutah 2019-05-02T02:47:06Z

That was cool! Got to the heart on my first try, I wasn't sure what to do. I hadn't fired at all, I didn't know I could because there wasn't really a reason to. So after a few minutes I let myself die, I thought that was what I was supposed to do. I read the controls and tried again and beat the heart. There needs to be a reason to shoot early on, like a wall you must shoot in order to pass through. I like the concept a lot! You could ramp up the difficulty, especially towards the end, it felt easy, even on the last level you can pretty much just stay in the middle and hold shoot. Also, make the player's bullets bigger and brighter, they are super hard to see.

That was a fun story, I thought a lot about my choices and they always factored into the narrative.

Bank Burner by repine 2019-04-29T17:11:44Z

Awesome work! That was fun, I beat it! it felt really good, I love the retro graphics and aesthetic. I wish I could make it go fullscreen, that also made it difficult to play at times when I clicked outside the window. Great level design. It felt like a really good progression and adding level names helped give it some context. Gameplay was challenging but very beatable. One small complaint is that the ui overlaps the gameplay and confused me a bit at first. The game length was perfect. Congrats, thanks for making this one!

The Circle of Life-Defense by SilvervaleGames 2019-04-29T21:57:10Z

I like the art style! The game is a cool concept but needs balance. I got to wave 13 now and it doesn't seem to be getting much harder and I just keep buying more towers. Increasing difficulty would help. It would also be nice to have more options strategy wise.

Arena Of Wealth by GreenBoxGames 2019-04-30T01:17:11Z

Great pixel art graphics. The core gameplay was good, you could ramp up the challenge faster.

Social Lite by DoctorMozart 2019-05-02T03:12:48Z

Cute game, lots of good text content. I like art too. Looks like you set up a nice system. The gameplay is a bit random. Maybe it would help if you could have multiple things going at once, or balance resources a bit. Is there an end to the game? I just stopped cause it seemed to be repeating after a while.

Minus by DrSkort 2019-04-30T16:45:21Z

Nice mood! I had some trouble pressing C to jump, maybe spacebar would be a better choice. Great level design! The art is fine but there is a problem of being able to distinguish the solid areas since they are both nearly the same color brick, it would help to make the solid areas stand out more. The platforming physics could use a bit of tweaking, it is hard to land on those platforms!

Minus by DrSkort 2019-04-30T18:37:44Z

Try making the foreground objects brighter instead of making the background objects darker! What I mean about platforming physics is not the values you've set, those are fine. What I'm taking about is there are many small things you an add that would help the feel and make it easier to control. Try searching on youtube for something like "platforming physics" to learn more about it. There are few great talks I've seen that will make a huge difference for you.

Clock of Your Life by JestemStefan 2019-04-30T01:56:04Z

Cool game and makes you think about how we spend our time.

BulletLife by Temsei 2019-04-30T00:37:54Z

Cool game! I got to wave 7 after a few tries but i never manage to save up enough money for any upgrades. The movement was a bit wonky, I think I understand what you were going for but it makes it harder to control.

jon needs 10$ by schrunkin 2019-04-30T17:35:12Z

Awesome! I love the art and sounds, really great and consistent hand made feel.

Killbi by HEXIEZ123 2019-04-30T01:44:49Z

The player character looks awesome! The movement and aiming feel good. The camera could be a bit farther back. Why not focus more on just 1 mechanic? Like instead of the sucking, the sword and the gun, just pick one of those and polish it more.

The Colosseum by Benjamin123 2019-04-29T22:30:19Z

Great work on the art, the characters look awesome and have good animation. The first time i played the camera got backed into a wall and I could't see anything. The second time the guy i was supposed to fight didn't show up. Then i realized he was behind me slashing at the wall where i died last time. Wish I could turn around to hit him. I reloaded and was able to fight him and beat him but im not sure what the strategy is. It might be a good idea to start the player with some money so they can buy stuff right away, especially cause it's part of the theme. Maybe try to simplify next time. For example you could combine the buy screen the lobby and the stadium into one seemless experience which would also be easier to develop. Instead of multiple weapons, maybe just focus on the sword like getting new moves for it or upgrading it.

Curren¢ by SyncStelar 2019-04-30T00:55:14Z

I like the graphics and sound track but I couldn't figure out how to play. I did get up to 6.50 I think but I just don't understand what I'm supposed to do.

TimeForYourSouls by Suchista 2019-04-29T16:57:48Z

Cool game! 594.16 seconds on my first run. The mechanics were interesting but I'm still not sure I fully understand them. The whole time travel thing was really cool and well done. bit it did get a bit repetitive after a while. Good use of the theme!

Vampire Fish by DarkGuardsman 2019-04-30T22:00:59Z

Great artwork! I would love to see what this style looks like with animation applied.

Vampire Escape by Copito 2019-04-30T17:50:10Z

I like the art style and concept! Why not just let the player redraw cards when they run out? I keep ending up facing enemies with not enough weapons to beat them, it's a bit frustrating.

Charger by CraftLord 2019-04-30T17:14:03Z

That's great! Why not just allow the player to hold down the shoot button? My finger got tired after a while of rapidly pressing it.

Let me go... by sadzanenyama 2019-04-30T17:04:32Z

Nice start for a twin stick shooter. The difficulty I had is the enemy bullets are perfectly accurate and extremely fast. Try this as an experiment: slow down enemy bullets and rate of fire a lot, (so enemy bullets can be dodged easily), increase enemy bullet spread a lot (at least a 30 degree wide cone), and increase the amount of damage they do by a lot.

The Boxer's Pact: Fausts of Fury by ScalphaMission 2019-04-30T01:26:00Z

Cool game, it felt very complete with main screen, training mode, and 3d fighting. Looks better then some ps1 games! The core gameplay itself of fighting could use a bit more polish, maybe you could have cut some of the abilities?

InstaSoul by goldenxp 2019-04-29T17:20:51Z

It seems like a cool concept but I'm not sure what to do exactly. The art style is nice and consistent. I played a few times but always end up with the wrong crowd, just like real life.

Sour Business! by GabrielH 2019-04-29T22:09:27Z

That was really cool! The whole setting and imagery was really well done. It was fun when it worked but the controls didn't seem to respond sometimes, it won't spray the lemonade, now. it makes the sound but nothing comes out. I think there is something weird with the paralax scenery in the background, maybe you have the equation reversed?

The Money Hole by miu 2019-04-30T16:56:01Z

Wow, thats awesome, strong final fantasy vibes! I beat it on my second try. That was pretty cool, good length. My main advice is to simplify and focus on polishing the most important stuff like the story.

Blood Mage: Human Sacrifice by tdg_ 2019-04-29T15:26:54Z

Nice! I can see a lot of work went into this one! Lots of pixel art and it's pretty good! I liked the music at first but it started to wear on me, it would be good to mix it up more, or make it more ambient.

I figured out the basics of how to play right away, but not sure about advanced strategy. I'm a big fan of slay the spire and mtg but not sure how this translates.

Some thoughts. - Just use left mouse button for everything. I'm pressing enter, space, right mouse, but there's no need! - It would help if it showed what spells do when you mouse over them. Maybe even apply that to everything (enemies, bars, etc) - Cool idea to put the text sideways but it's hard to read!

A great first entry, congrats!

Next time my advice is to simplify! Think about how the game would be better if it had less stuff that was just better balanced and polished. For example instead of 6 spells maybe have 3. Instead of an upgrade system maybe don't have that at all or simplify it and make it more interesting choice. Like choosing a new card for your deck.

PayTime by aqws3 2019-04-29T22:02:28Z

It crashes immediately for me. I see screen with budget in the top left with a picture of a store and a car. Then it just crashes. I'm running windows 7 if that helps.
