The game is fun and it got a nice look to it.
It is a bit hard ingame as the enemies can catch you pretty easily.

@the8donut: Good to know. I did not experience this on my computer.
@cacciatc: Thanks for letting me know. I've updated the link directly to the applet version.
@cadin: Yea, the hitbox is a tad annoying when it comes to the lava. I tried to make it even smaller, but just one pixel smaller on each side and it looked awkward when getting close to the walls.
@RHY3756547: Trust me, I wanted checkpoints to, but I were so short on time D:
@jeffreybiles: I'd wish to help, but I don't know anything about Linux.
I could not figure out what to do, but it was really REALLY beautiful!
It is a great game, reminds me of Impossible Game but with evolution added to it. I just have one thing to point out. The sounds. While it was great with the arcade-ish sounds, I noticed some delay in it. Eg the jump sound wouldn't play until I were at the top of the jump, not when I actually jumped. Maybe there is some upgrade later ingame for this (I did not survived very far ;P).
The game does nothing but showing two red circles, a blue rectangle and the text "Evolution, it simply works".
@Spaceoff: Thanks for the amazing critism. The reason for no sound, yupp, as I said in the description I just did not have time to add it properly so decided to get rid of it entirely. Same goes for good ballance between money and gameplay, not enough testing to find out the just perfect ballance.
@Cell: The evolution part goes in the genetic upgrades. All of my ludum dare entries so far shows the theme in the absolute final moment of the game. :3
@JaJ: I have the awesome explosion sound stored on my computer. I wanted it ingame so badly! ;-;
@bvanschooten: This was my absolute first try to create a platformer AI and the unpredictable moving of the zombies is kind of a glitch I couldn't get around.
@4urentertainment: I came to think of feedback too, a tad too late into the development. If I wanted to add the feedback properly at that stage I had to replace A LOT of int to double. Without that change the feedback would be either nothing or over the top powerful.
@dector: I usually had the cursor "locked" to the center of the screen before. But I found it to not to more comfortable after a while, so this is how I do it now.
@Kmad: I am planning to continue working on the game, just as soon as I am done procastinating. I know lots of things in this game could have some changes to make it more enjoyable.
@olav_st: I only have the most needed animation for each character: idle, walking and dead. The walking animation might be a bit hard to notice since it is simply the legs going up and down, and I did not want to spend too much time on the graphical part. And yes, the AI is really dumb. This is, as stated before, my first try on making a platformer AI.
@jarnik: Again, as stated above. I did not have much time to ballance stuff properly, and the evolution part is revealed at the end of the game.
The controlls were really annoying and did not feel good at all. If you keep working on those this could turn out to be a fun lil' arcade game.
Great game! I just love games like this!
Though, I have some complaints.
First; The credits income is way too fast. The last upgrades are afforable after a very short time.
Second; The split upgrade felt a bit excessive. One bullet could alone destroy an entire horde of green enemies.
Third; The number/level of enemies should probably increase slower. I know these games are supposed to be fast-paced, but this game is really REALLY fast-paced.
I think you might have missed out to end the thread in the game when it is closed. The music kept playing and the Java process was still running after closing the game.
Apart from that. Lovely graphics and solid concept. 5/5
Feels like a nice mix between Tetris and a bullet hell. Pretty hard though. I kept getting trapped and killed against the screen walls.
It is a good concept and had me occupied for a couple of games. The difficulty increases pretty quickly.
Not being able to see bellow the player felt dangerous when I was supposed to jump down to something.
Great game. The concept is pretty straight forward so the lack of instructions doesn't really matter. Although, you could have added some kind of info for the different items or at least have the player to know the prices of the items and upgrades.
It is executed very well. Although, it was a tad problematic to not have the alive aliens go all the way to the edge of the screen when I had a couple of dead ones hanging on my sides.
@manabreak: It sure would, but I lacked both time and composing skills.
@Mark Hildreth: The sound issue only happens sometimes for me, which is very weird since the code doesn't change between gameplay. What's more odd is that it has worked fine before.
@Xatulu: There are audio. Although, it seems to only work for some users sometimes. Randomness~
@the rest: Thank you all for the comments and feedback. I appreciate it.
*Feels bad for having a Radeon GPU*
Anywho!
The no-AA version worked fine and smoothly, up until I flew all the way to the sun and turned around. Rendering all asteroids in one screen had a bit of a hit on my frame rate. Not a lot, it was still very much playable. I don't believe it dropped more than 5-10 fps, ending up on ~50. So some kind of LOD depending on distance to the rocks could be nice.
The controls were smooth and dandy. Being able to "jump" and "crouch" were a nice touch.
Although, the added force on the lasers (going left made them go slightly left) made it really hard to aim.
I really liked the easy going graphics. Nice colours and shapes, all together.
The game looks pretty dull and OH MY GOD COLOURS AND MUSIC!
This game was amazing. Just amazing. The music was fitting well and the game paces really well. The fade out effect of the star power was a really nice touch.
I did find one issue though. The landing seemed a bit dodgy, visually. It did not affect the gameplay as far as I noticed.
This game was REALLY good. And hard, very hard.
The monotonic style looked really good. 5/5
The audio was suitable to the style. 5/5
Overall; The controls were nice, everything looked good. 5/5
The graphics are minimalistic, indeed. Each colour alone shows their function in the game. Good job there.
The overall look on the game is, again, minimalistic, following the theme of this Ludum Dare. Full score.
The gameplay is simple enough to learn without any tutorial. Twas a great idea to add one new colour at a time to let the player get the hang of it.
Overall. Purdy job.
The graphics are absolutely terrific. Love it! Strong 5 on that.
The sounds of the pyramids was very pleasant. The lack of music made it feel like this takes place in a vast place out in nowhere, as if it is a challenge of the mind. No complaint. Strong 5 on that, as well.
The overall feeling was kept to the theme.
Very good job! :D
The first windows link worked fine for me.
Graphics stay true to the theme, minimalism.
The twist of the good ol' classic Snake was fun and kept me playing for a time.
Although, I did found some issues.
1) If you turn around too quickly you turn into yourself and lose.
2) The stones(?) would appear in inconvenient places. Eg, under the tail and in the boxes.
Overall. Twas a good, fun game.
Oh lordy lord, this was a hard game.
The game stays true to the theme minimalism, and so does the graphics.
