LD20 — It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This!

I'm in a Tub!! by masterhyjinx 2011-05-04T12:19:00

Boy, this game is DIFFICULT!

It's Time by vrld 2011-05-03T17:42:00

Yeah, I did most of the "art" at night, so I didn't notice how dark it was until the next morning. :/

LD22 — Alone

Project Robert Sean by vrld 2011-12-21T13:27:00

@FrankieSmilieShow: Well, you can move around, use things and make new things... Barely ;)

@cakemonitor: Yeah, the crafting and searching for stuff was added literally in the last hours, so I had no time for balancing. The scope of this project was just too big for me. Will do better next time. Also thanks for the kind words about sound effects. This was one thing I put a lot of effort into. :)

@caranha: What OS are you on? OSX?

Unfinished World by markengley 2011-12-26T02:19:00

I really enjoyed those sound effects. This and the minimal music carried the mood very well. Good job!

LD23 — Tiny World

Disregard All Humans by Fireblend 2012-04-27T15:48:00

Somehow I cannot stop playing this. Great job!

TINY LIZARD SWELL WORLD by racarate 2012-04-27T16:06:00

It's certainly ... interesting. I noticed there is something happening when I bring two people together. Not sure what with the time at the bottom though. The music goes well with the graphics. As the others already said, it would be nice if the lizard was bigger. I often totally lost it on the screen.

Spaceship In The Sky With Colors by fysx 2012-04-24T11:59:00

Original gameplay and consistent art style. Very good entry!

The First Frontier by Nickardson 2012-04-27T15:43:00

Great fun! I liked the levels with multiple planets. Wish there had been more of them. Some simple sound effects would also have done wonders.

Pocket Strife by josefnpat 2012-04-23T15:23:00

Very well done. As said in a previous comment: We need more strategy games! This will stay on my disk for some time to come :)

a SMALL problem by sirGustav 2012-04-23T20:04:00

As said before: "Nice, could see lots of potential there for more levels." Reminds me of some DOS platformers that I used to play. Though I couldn't name your one - it's just the *feeling*.

Attention by Jail-By 2012-04-23T14:17:00

I don't get it. What's the goal? There seems to be no exit. And how can I predict where a wall is going to appear? Sorry if that sounds harsh, but right now your entry is not very playable.

Space Rescue! by schnerble 2012-04-23T14:34:00

I cannot get the game to run under Gentoo Linux (64 bit). Error message:

Is there some way to run the game from source? What are the dependencies?

Space Rescue! by schnerble 2012-04-25T12:36:00

Packaging for Linux is a bitch, isn't it? But now it works so I am happy :)
As for the game: It's fun, but the controls make it just a bit too hard in my opinion. Making the spaceship accelerate less when I push a button would be one option to fix this. The other way would be use the Asteroids control scheme, i.e. just acceleration and turn. This would get rid of having to coordinate 9 buttons and allow to maneuver at more than 9 angles.
Having camera that follows the spaceship when not in the planet or being bounced back when leaving the screen also would have been nice. In my first three attempts I accelerated too much and went of the screen unable to ever come back.

TL;DR: Simple and effective gameplay, but lacks in execution.

Tin World by TheSheep 2012-04-23T14:31:00

Suddenly: Lot's of robots!

Surprisingly fun game. Lovely graphics. Sound would have been nice though. Also, the game world *is* tiny, so I guess you got the theme right to some degree ;)

Escape from tiny world by jonsul 2012-04-23T15:02:00

Very short, but I can see where this game is headed. And I like it. The graphics are beautiful, especially the rocket particle effect.

Tiny the Adventurer by onehandclap 2012-05-09T22:52:00

"Fun" is not the right word. But the game captures you. I couldn't stop until I got that damn grail thing. Well done :)

Tiny World Corporation by Andrew Marsh 2012-04-23T20:08:00

Was this supposed to be a Theme Park like game? I couldn't quite figure it out yet.

Another Kind of World by daandruff 2012-04-23T16:53:00

Nice game! I really like the atmosphere.

Pull by maloki 2012-04-23T20:18:00

Not the most original game, but quite fun! Love the audio.

NaMa Tek by vrld 2012-04-25T11:09:00

Thanks for the comments! Being well rested now I agree with your comments: The game and the interface is too complicated. More tutorial and in game help would have been necessary. Also the difficulty curve is quite too steep. Even if you know about designing state machines using logic circuits. But I guess that's what you get when you don't plan enough time for level design. Lesson learned ;)

Wulcan by leafo 2012-04-24T11:49:00

The gameplay is straight to the point and very well delivered. Having to switch the weapons adds a lot to a regular shmup. Feels a bit slow though. The graphics are amazing and the music is nice. Very solid game, one of the best entries I've played so far.

Nano Spin by bitbof 2012-04-24T12:15:00

Simple, yet very effective. This is how a ludum dare game should be.

Galactic Taxi by remeh 2012-04-28T18:08:00

Overall a fun game, though a little too easy - I played to a score of about 5000 and then decided it was more fun killing the customers. Maybe a time limit for delivering the customers would have been good. Other than that: Solid entry. You should really try to provide a windows build so that more people can play it. It's worth it.

Tiny Worlds by mnem 2012-04-25T11:50:00

The game does not work for me. This is the error message I get:

Nom Nom Nom! Nice game!

LD25 — You are the Villain

ARM: Alien Research Mission by Hume 2012-12-17T07:27:00

Very entertaining. Reminds me of Kill all Humans - definitely a good thing!

Pong Inversion by ryebread761 2012-12-17T04:42:00

The game is too slow. Otherwise nice idea.

ALL EARTHLINGS MUST DIE!!!!!! by savethejets1 2013-01-03T10:03:00

Very well executed. And once you forget about moving left/right and use only <s> and <space> the controls are not so bad after all ;)

Lasers against Humanity by tcql 2012-12-17T04:41:00

Very interesting idea, but gets repetitive really quick. Just circling around the planet with the occasional shield gets you very far. With a little more polish (e.g. bigger, maybe different planets and building with health bar instead of one-hit-kills) this could be a real hit though. :)

Fetch Quest by sclark39 2012-12-17T04:49:00

Very cool. Also very difficult ;)

None Shall Pass by cardboard 2012-12-19T16:34:00

Pro: The graphics look wonderful and audio is above standard.
Con: The game is really easy: I got > 100 kils by just standing at the left corner of the screen hitting space.

Obliterate the City by Clavus 2012-12-20T23:58:00

Simple, but so much fun!

Steve vs the Internet by TopHattedCoder 2012-12-17T08:38:00

Could be more fun with reworked controls (allow going back, less moon-like jumps, slower acceleration, maximum speed).

Sealed Evil by Neonlare 2012-12-26T13:15:00

The best game I played so far! A bit slow at the beginning and ending, but the in between is so much fun!

Atomic Creep Spawner!! by deepnight 2012-12-18T00:43:00

Amazing as always.

The other side by vrld 2012-12-17T07:06:00

Thanks for the nice reviews!

SelectricSimian: Is the .app corrupted or can't you download the file? I can't test it because I don't have a mac :/

Scott McBee: Do you recall what the error said?

Graf_Grun: Not to spoiler you, but that's the point: You (or rather the computer) can only win PacMan if you don't kill him. And you have to follow the SpaceInvader pattern: Left until you reach the end, down one row, right until you reach the end, down one row, ... ;)

The other side by vrld 2012-12-17T07:08:00

Hume: Yeah, he does that from time to time. I really have no clue why though. But then again, it's easier to kill a paralyzed Pac Man...

Lovely Santa by joe 2012-12-17T04:24:00

Hint: The coder is the true villian ^^

Goat sacrifice 2012 (unfinished) by Raptor85 2012-12-23T23:06:00

Cannot (but would like to play), because of a missing libBox2D.so.2.1.0.

A Wheelie Good Time by df458 2012-12-23T23:15:00

Very addicting and fun game with superb audio. However it's a bit hard to coordinate the inputs - increasing the rockets hit-box size probably would add value to the experience.

City Sucker by Rose 2012-12-17T03:55:00

Very cool! Love the goat :D

LD26 — Minimalism

SoO by Proch 2013-04-30T15:50:00

God, this game is hard. Very fun though!

JOHN by LPGhatguy 2013-05-11T11:47:00

Wow.

QbQbQb by rezoner 2013-04-29T07:34:00

Cool idea and very well executed. The only criticism would be that the game is too easy: Only at a score of around 1900 the blocks became fast enough to mess with my stacking plan...

Platform Jumper by attagcatc 2013-05-18T17:25:00

I take my hat off to you, sir or madam.

Come No Closer by maloki 2013-05-10T18:37:00

I really love the athmosphere your game creates through simple graphics and sound. It really feels like a zombie/survival horror game. Only downside: The mechanic isn't too much fun, at least to me. Still one of the better entries I played so far :)

PuzzleBot by minism 2013-05-18T17:39:00

Cool idea, well executed and presented. I really enjoyed this game and plan to continue enjoying it!

LD27 — 10 Seconds

Dungen Dogan's Cursed Crew by Deconstructeam 2013-08-28T20:44:00

Easily one of my favorite games so far. Solid mechanics and level design, beautiful graphics with a lot of attention to detail and a catchy soundtrack. A++ would (and will) play again!

The Fall by Qaterknan 2013-08-27T10:05:00

Wouldn't load on Windows 7 with Chrome and a fast internet connection even though I gave it about 5 minutes.

Defense of Your Craft by josefnpat 2013-08-26T11:04:00

Took a while to get used to the controls, but then the game feels really great. Can't wait to play this with some friends.

It's also a shame we can only give 5 stars for audio. The music is great!

SecondsXsecondS by SaintHeiser 2013-08-27T15:31:00

Very great concept, graphics and sound are top notch. But restarting each level from the beginning when I failed because I didn't choose the right ability felt a little unfair.

Highway Hero by raincole 2013-08-29T19:48:00

Innovative take on the theme, with solid graphics and user interface, so it's a real bummer the game isn't too much fun :/

300000km At The Speed Of Light by Calahagus 2013-08-28T09:40:00

Very ambitious game for 48 hours.

Terminal 10 by alts 2013-08-28T20:55:00

Oh god, this is awesful! It's punishing as hell ("why would you do that", etc.), but in a very fun way. I can easily see this as a full game in the spirit of McPixel. Well done!

Woodman for President by lcarpentier 2013-08-26T13:20:00

A great idea and very well executed.

Woodman for president!

10 Second Robot by Linus Lindberg 2013-08-26T13:44:00

Fun game, great graphics and a cool soundtrack.

CatWalk: Final battle by Pixelfan Games 2013-08-27T10:11:00

Wonderful graphics, great music and loads of fun. Only drawback: It's too short ;)

Time Surge by Solifuge 2013-09-01T11:49:00

Interesting and fun concept. Combining the two layers of puzzles adds a lot to either "sub"-gerne. The only complaint is that it takes too long to try out if a solution works (i.e. doing something, going back to the reactor, seeing that it didn't work, go to the room again, ...). Especially in later rooms (mess hall, sciency room), a shortcut would have been nice. Nonetheless, great game!

Muovt!!! by superfrog 2013-08-27T13:50:00

The game crashes immediately when I open it on Windows 7 64 bit. Do I need some extra libraries?

Lurker by Plu 2013-08-26T13:27:00

Fun game once you get the hang of it. It really feels like I am controlling a sattelite. Though some sound effects would have improved the experience even further.

Still Charging! by xfxian 2013-08-26T13:33:00

Cool idea, but the game is a little too short. A neverending mode with an increasing number of asteroids could be fun.

Notes of a melody by Zerkruemler 2013-08-28T09:29:00

This is a really good idea, but the execution could be better, especially in player feedback, general "juiciness" and graphics. If you overcome these issues the game could indeed become something bigger!

removed by flamecow 2013-08-26T11:31:00

I won! Have no idea how, because I just randomly clicked syringes until the patient survived. I never read what the assitant said (until it was too late).

The graphics, sound and implementation of the theme are superb, but it's not too much fun since it's too hard to make out how to win the game.

With better visual feedback the game would be great, like this it is "only" very good. I think that's ok for a first ludum dare ;)

Way of the Gun by vrld 2013-08-26T10:47:00

@losinggeneration: well, you have to banter with 10 seconds. it's a bit of stretch, but i didn't want to make a game about time ;)

@josefnpat: the game breaking bug is fixed now (i was told this is ok). the overlapping "stop music" button thing is annoying (that's what you get when adding this feature literally on the last minute, i guess), but it's possible to win the game without it, so no fix there.

Way of the Gun by vrld 2013-08-26T13:10:00

@ lcarpentier, @xfxian, @Ciaran54, @BerdiNerdi: Repacked the game for windows and tested with Windows 7 64 bit. Not sure what went wrong before.

Way of the Gun by vrld 2013-08-26T14:43:00

@Omar_q8: I interpreted 'second' not as unit of time, but as the agent of participants in a duel. you face ten of them, hence: ten seconds ;)

@rfgpfeiffer: That... is very odd. I've never seen this error before. What OS (and Kernel version) are you running? Did you compile love yourself or did you use a binary release?

Triad by BlackBulletIV 2013-08-26T11:15:00

Really well executed game, but not mentioning the very similar "Ten Second War" (http://tensecondwar.wordpress.com/, also a LÖVE game) leaves a bitter aftertaste.
It's still very impressive what you managed to pull off in 48 hours. Kudos!

Grind by headchant 2013-08-26T11:26:00

Had to cheat and look at the map to know where to go (down and right [duh]), but I still did not manage to get there. The grind itself is fun, so I guess completing the game is optional ;)

Boyfriend Simulator: Feed My Boyfriend by leafo 2013-08-26T02:28:00

I am ERROROUS (broken link)

Boyfriend Simulator: Feed My Boyfriend by leafo 2013-08-26T10:50:00

What a great game. It's fun as hell, the graphics superb and the audio is really, really good. I'll go with the others: Fantastic job!

WorkItUp by RawBits 2013-09-01T17:56:00

Interesting concept. Having to manage both the puzzle and the platformer is fun, but gets too easy later on.

Combat Time!! by Sheepolution 2013-08-26T13:24:00

Cool concept, and very fun to play. More characters would have been interesting, but the three available are adequate for a 48 hour game (read: I would love to see an extended, post-ld version).

Time Rolls On by cappelnord 2013-08-28T09:33:00

The only winning move is (for all others) not to play?

BIOFUEL by Ciaran54 2013-08-26T13:38:00

That was surprisingly fun. Great entry!

LD28 — You Only Get One

Ursa Miner by Will Edwards 2013-12-17T09:49:00

Ursa miner gives a nice Descent feeling (good job on that), but it doesn't really feel like a finished game. Here are my main points (in case you want to develop this further - please do!):

1) Add an arrow to point to the airlock (like in Freespace). It's really hard to find it using the XYZ coordinates in the upper left corner alone.
2) Better feedback, e.g.screenshake when firing the vaporizer, particle effec when collecting gems, oxygen bar instead of a number, stuff like that.
3) Background - less black (dark greyish blue could work) and maybe add a few stars
4) Afterburner!

VOXELTRONIC by mungoman1 2013-12-16T03:06:00

Graphics and sounds are fantastic. The feeling reminds me of Virus 2000 somehow (though that is a totally different game). However, the controls are a little weird and make it hard to actually play the game (it took five tries to get to wave 2, highest I got before quitting was wave 5).
Still, good game overall!

Warrior by LPGhatguy 2013-12-17T11:20:00

Very neat idea, but very, very hard to master!

Hero of Tower by Threef 2013-12-19T13:23:00

Interesting concept, and the feeling reminds me of Prince of Persia. However, I always failed on the first or second floor, because the levels felt impossible to complete (gap too long to jump, enemy constantly guarding a ledge, ...)

The Battle of Infinite Birds by thegoofromspace 2013-12-17T09:39:00

I like the concept, but the controls (sluggish movement, shot direction) make it somewhat hard to enjoy your game :/

Fat the police by Zekyon 2013-12-18T10:57:00

Positive: Original concept and very nice graphics and sounds.
Negative: Non-intuitive controls (putting the control-guide in-game would have helped) and apparently no way to restart a level.

0RBITALIS by AlanZucconi 2013-12-16T03:23:00

Wow, this is an awesome game! Graphics are beautiful and the mechanics are fun! Only drawback: How is the game related to the theme?

You Only Get One Shot: Eminem Rapping Simulator by Afal 2013-12-17T12:41:00

Spaghetti!

Earth Prime by Satyre 2013-12-17T18:00:00

Tough one to judge: I really like the graphics and music, but due to the lack of feedback (even just graying out buttons would have helped) I don't really feel like I have an influence on whats happening.

Mead Greed by fleabit 2013-12-17T11:22:00

Nice graphics and a fun idea. Too many peasants though ;)

The blue present by Ayte 2013-12-16T15:06:00

Fun little game, but I think it could be more fun if either the presents would fall slower or the basket would move faster.

Lazyman Makes a Sub Sandwich by alexc 2013-12-17T11:28:00

Very nice McPixel vibe you got there :) Only negative point: The mono-/dialogue basically tells you what to do, but the riddles are easy enough to figure out yourself. So you basically missed a great opportunity for more jokes!

One Take by Sheepolution 2013-12-17T17:50:00

Really nice game idea, and well executed. As others have said: the "shot detection" was a little unfair at times, but that didn't hurt the experience too much!

Le Artilleur by sanojian 2013-12-17T18:07:00

Very fun game :)

clic only by nicso 2013-12-16T15:20:00

Interesting mechanic, very well presented (graphics and audio). Only two ill points: How does this game relate to the theme and: some of the later levels are Evil with a capital e ;)

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Rome's Little Step by Tuba 2014-12-08T14:09:00

Very nice, but hard game.

Heartbreak by elemel 2014-12-13T10:58:00

Interesting idea, but doesn't really work because the controls are way too "inert".

Life is not a Game by Gwilym 2014-12-08T19:53:00

Very cool game with an interesting mechanic. The audio is superb and graphics are appropriate. A+, will play again!

Worms by longloaf 2014-12-29T17:43:00

Next gen high def graphics, crisp audio, superb gameplay and a deep narrative. Highly recommended.

LArse by crazyrems 2014-12-09T22:08:00

I have no idea what the game is about, but the graphics and audio design are fascinating.

Gameplay wise it is a bit lacking, but I am not sure what you could add to change that.

Overall solid entry.

Snowman Beauty Shop by stvr 2014-12-12T17:24:00

Sweeeeeet. That is like totally fab!

Gratification Crisis by zorfmorf 2014-12-09T22:04:00

Work is good for me!

Audio is good, graphics are beautiful and surprisingly detailed and the use of the theme is pretty clever. However, a short tutorial would have been helpful.

Sprotzel by Waterman7 2014-12-08T13:45:00

Fun, but really difficult.
The graphics are pretty, but sometimes make it hard to see where the player is.

Math.Sin() by NickRock 2014-12-08T20:41:00

Pretty decent for your first game in LÖVE. Some sort of score (bullets doged) would have been a nice addition. Sound could also add a lot to the game.

Screened by hexagore 2014-12-08T14:04:00

Graphics are really good and the audio is great too, although the background music can get a little annoying. Almost as it was taunting me for failing so often :)

The way of using the level over and over again is very creative and fits the theme well. I like how seeing the things to come terrifies and motivates you at the same time. The only gripe I have are the controls.

Out of bounds! by lion123 2014-12-08T19:41:00

Solid and fun entry with a nice interpretation of the theme. The controls are ok, but could be snappier.

Outrun by Yarr 2014-12-09T22:13:00

Interesting concept, but feels very unfinished.

The Last Panda by Shimone 2014-12-08T13:53:00

Graphics and the background music are very good and overall the game is very polished. However, a slower start would be nice. As it is I was forced to camp at the treasure box the whole time just trying to fend off the ghosts.

Labyrinthian by BlackBulletIV 2014-12-08T14:55:00

Wow, creepy game. Very well executed. The mechanic fits the theme nicely.

Badius by leafo 2014-12-08T22:43:00

The idea is pretty cool, plus Gradius was one of my favourite games on the NES. The projection around the edges is a bit weird though. Bummer that you didn't have more time to work on this.

Wow, this is the best entry I have played so far. Simple and very addictive mechanic, very well presented. A+++ WILL play again. Now.

Cool concept, but feels very unfinished. In particular, I would have liked more feedback when I ate the blue/red rectangles.

Very creative way of using the theme!

Cannot run the entry:

X Error of failed request: GLXUnsupportedPrivateRequest
Major opcode of failed request: 154 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 16 (X_GLXVendorPrivate)
Serial number of failed request: 218
Current serial number in output stream: 220

Tried rebuilding (which works), but the error is still there :(

Overall very solid entry. I like the gameplay and the humor a lot, but the music is a bit annoying ;)

I have spent way too much time on this. Well done!

Good mechanic, very polished, catchy music. Unfortunately, the controls are a bit too unforgiving for my taste. It is almost impossible to properly position yourself on a lane to fit through a tight passage. I think the game could work much better if the player would automatically lock onto the nearest lane. Otherwise a very solid entry.

The mechanic has potential, but the execution is lacking:

- The game starts too slow, but then picks up pace too fast
- The ball moves too slowly
- The spikes are very hard to make out from the background
- The spikes appear with no warning, often when you collect the coin immediately above
- The hitbox of the spike is too big
