LD18 — Enemies as Weapons

Purple by roBurky 2010-09-02T23:16:00

I liked the game although I was a bit confused at first because I kept trying to shoot the purple boxes. The camera needs a bit more acceleration to keep up with you but the player movement is smooth. What did you do for the enemy pathing? The swarming is cool.

You're right, the weakness comes from the lack of challenge but I think you should finish this one and post a link here with something that completes your vision because I think you're on a good path.

LD23 — Tiny World

Tiny's World by Topaz 2012-04-26T02:48:00

I'm on a mac, sorry

OSC: Dawn by crhallberg 2012-05-13T23:08:00

Fabulous concept and use of the theme. Nice to see someone use HTML 5 too. I really liked the set up and the mechanics (Use of the sun). I didn't get very far because when I get to the first goal of putting the planet in a zone performance drops significantly and I can't seem to move the planet at all.

(It seemed to malfunction in Chrome with colors painting everywhere)

Bombs World by minimicro 2012-05-13T23:15:00

Not sure if it really applies to the theme. That being said the game is much more fun when the brick spawning gets underway. I thought there was a bit of latency in the controls when you were just tapping keys. I could see you developing this into an early 90s arcade style game where you play repeatedly for higher score. The music was good too.

Jack Primus and the Adventure of Tiny Things by Wizered67 2012-04-26T02:46:00

Couldn't run it because I don't have a windows install right now.

GraviPlay by Cheesescape Ltd. 2012-05-13T23:01:00

I couldn't complete a level. I always seem to die without knowing exactly why. I love the concept though! What would it play like if the camera would pull back when a danger got close? Good job, it looks really good!

Alice and Bob's tiny cubic planet by kch42 2012-05-13T23:34:00

I haven't seen many "Adventure" games in the compo, it's nice to see one. Making the character 2 units tall makes it very confusing to navigate. I found the girl but was wondering about the key and what it means so I wanted to play it again after the first time to figure it out. As I moved around, I noticed that my movement on the map is upside down which made it a little hard to navigate and keep track of where I saw stuff. I think with a little work you could easily communicate to the player what's navigatable and what isn't. Toss in some obstacles, some RPG elements and maybe make a mini RPG? Good job and congrats on the entry!

Rally Mites by siasia 2012-04-26T02:52:00

I couldn't run it. On execution it crashed. Here's the TTY output:

Planet Protectors by TM13 2012-05-13T23:24:00

Very good entry. The ambient sounds really set the mood. My first request would be to somehow to see the health of the planet so I can make decisions on which targets I should go after. My second request would be gun upgrades and power ups! I enjoyed playing it. You menu is really cool too. My high score was 715.

Trash Sprite by CapnMorgan 2012-05-14T00:05:00

Awesome concept. Game looks great. You guys really leveraged Unity in this entry. I would love to play a full game where I play a trash sprite that hopefully moves a bit faster. I really enjoyed myself but I got stuck at a wall after entering the building. The sense of scale is great and you guys got a lot done in the time allocated. You should be proud! I recommend you finish this one, I'd buy a copy!

These Planets Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us! by RadthorDax 2012-04-26T02:54:00

I'm a mac. This is for PC. Do you see the issue? I've very sorry. :)

Spaceman Biff vs The Red Robots by ChainedLupine 2012-05-14T00:12:00

Very good entry. Congrats. The moving around from planet to planet is cool. The combat was on the very easy side but I can see what you were going for. I think you could have something cool on your hands if you developed it further. Graphics look great and good job on generating all the animation for a 48 hr compo.

Tiny World by spilth 2012-04-26T02:45:00

Wish there was more to play. You should put in the description what you were planning to do. Then go do it! :D

Bright Worlds by johnfn 2012-05-13T23:47:00

Good job and congrats on the entry!. The graphics and music are really good. The concept is presented in a very interesting way and with some polish it could be a very good platform/puzzle game. I didn't really seem the theme in it though. Moving lights was a little weird and there were a lot of bugs in moving stuff that prevented me from enjoying the game. (Light and box getting stuck on each other. Losing sanity, getting reset and the light was gone). You have the beginning of a good game though and I wonder if you plan on finishing it and releasing it?

Trees of Life by pragmascript 2012-05-13T23:53:00

Interesting concept. Took me a couple plays to realize that you had to pick up cones before you could plant again. I'd often get stuck between a building and a tree. The growing looked cool. Congrats on the entry. How much time did you get to spend on the entry? I wonder what it would look like if you had more time with it.

Primordial Smackdown: Bacteria with Badditude by Vilborg 2012-04-30T08:58:00

I had a hard time playing it. Nothing was smaller than me on the first play through. On the second game I seemed to be able to press space to hit some things but eventually the collision just stopped responding. Excellent music and graphics though

Planet Protector by Retroid 2012-05-13T23:27:00

I think you should fix the bugs about not being able to fix cracks since its your core mechanic. That being said I think the game will be very difficult. If you were to expand the main mechanic to be a sort of tower defense game where you have to maintain the planet so it could defend itself, that could be very cool.

Ant Onslaught by laremere 2012-04-30T08:42:00

Celluloid Combat! by Vertebro 2012-05-13T22:28:00

This reminds me of a shareware game I played a long time ago. Except you made it in 48 hours, congrats! Isn't technology great? I think the application of the theme was pretty good. When I played this game I thought it was a good start and would like to see more, like enemies coming out of the background and into your level instead of popping in. An adventure as you travel through the blood stream could be very cool.

Battle For 35 Leukothea by Rectifier 2012-04-30T08:53:00

Interesting presentation and ascii graphics. I wasn't clear on what the representation of the terrain means. I'm not a fan of these types of representations but it is definitely cool in that retro way.

LD30 — Connected Worlds

Interplanetary Harvester by Sestren 2014-09-16T00:31:00

I wasn't quite sure what I was doing... If I understand what you were going for this could be an interesting puzzle type. Something I don't think I've seen before.

LUDOPHAGIC TIMEWAVE SOUND HYPERWHISTLE by racarate 2014-09-16T00:47:00

I wasn't sure what exhale even meant. I thought it was cool that you set up AI to play a game though. I love systems.

Sun Saviors by HeuGamer 2014-09-16T00:52:00

I need 3 other people! Good entry! I like co-op games. I did sort of end up just holding down Q and W in loner mode :P Sorry, I can't help myself!

Hey Lucky Lucky by Deconstructeam 2014-09-16T00:15:00

Web version wouldn't run on Chrome OS X. Just went to a black screen. I let it "load" for a while and nothing happened. No windows version so I couldn't play :(

Tribe of the Giant by MerlijnVH 2014-08-25T09:39:00

An intimidatingly good looking game, excellent work. I like the idea of lots of units swarming about. Reminds me of Black and White. It took me a little bit to realize that by "noise" you meant the beat. Could be a very cool idea when you manage to put music with some tribal drums in it. I didn't quite understand if I was doing the right thing to "suck" up enemies and convert them but I enjoyed moving my giant around. The game is fairly hard, or after playing 3 times I couldn't win a match haha. Good work!

Isra & Miraj: "A Night Journey" by grillaface 2014-09-16T00:24:00

Interesting start. I wonder what you would do with it?

ServerSphereICE by drakfyre 2014-08-25T09:31:00

Good job Drakfyre! This is the first LD30 project that I've wanted to download to take a peek at how you accomplished that look and movement. It's sweet! Someone want to teach me how to use GIT? Hahaha.

Drempt by WetDesertRock 2014-09-15T22:58:00

Sorry, I TLDR the instructions. I jumped in and started to understand that there was a difference between my targets but I didn't understand. It didn't help that I can't right click on my trackpad. So I went back and read the instructions. Then I had my "Ah-ha" moment. Interesting idea, I like the music.

I agree that the different behaviors didn't really stand out and I had a hard time discerning what I was supposed to do.

BeatGarden by Pfeyffer 2014-08-25T09:44:00

I didn't get any audio on my end (Running Chrome under OS/X. I'm assuming that it's a bug because with a name like BeatGarden I feel like I'm missing out on a crucial part of the game. I like the idea. Puzzle 3 was where I started to really what the game could be. It looks fantastic. I hope you develop this into something playable on tablets!

Borl by wademcgillis 2014-09-15T23:04:00

I feel dumb because I didn't get it at first. Then when I got it, I loved it. I love the composition of the whole thing. I like the sound and art style. I would play something like this through just for the mind trip. Good work!

WithU by eatsleepindie 2014-09-04T06:53:00

Web build is a dead link. I'm on OS X and since the only build I could play is the web build.

Shadowland by Democritus 2014-08-25T08:41:00

I liked the idea. I liked the mood but some more lighting could do wonders for it. Lots of animation and AI done in a short time, good work!

Sol by pikkpoiss 2014-09-16T00:57:00

Grunedar. It ruled for millenia. 60k+ people... until one day... Keith Moon, which seemingly game out of no where, destabilized Grunedar and sent it on a journey to the stars....

I really like this concept! I wonder if you'd make it a full arcade style game or even a puzzle game where you have to play with how you put things in orbit to win.

Escape the World by bogdanmaier49 2014-08-25T09:24:00

I'm on OS/X. After the first game, clicking any main menu buttons causes the game to exit.

I played a few times. The idea is interesting but I find the game very difficult. Before I can explore even the moon for resources an astroid comes from a corner and annihilates Earth. The first turret doesn't give the player quite enough fire power to deal with threats while exploring what the game is about.

You did lots of work on the UI (I suppose coming from an ambitious idea!) but the game puts your under fire before you can explore it. Maybe auto targeting turrets will allow you to keep it relevant but allow you to explore the rest of the game you put together.

Mage's Tower by marudziik 2014-09-15T23:41:00

I wasn't expecting this. It's done very well. I enjoyed the little graphic pieces once in a while. The boy in the hut didn't say anything back to me, didn't know if that was a bug or intended. This could be a very cool little tablet app. I didn't get to the end but it seemed a bit random near the end about where you'd end up.

Star Smuggler by Chris_E 2014-09-15T23:16:00

I'm assuming this is an economy game so I made some assumptions going in. The buy interface doesn't seem to be set up to easily understand what's going on. I had to buy several times in small amounts just to understand what was going where. After that I couldn't figure out if I had to sell because I couldn't figure out HOW to sell. Good work, I love games like this. I poked at this one for a while trying to amass wealth!

Connection Chase by Nanofus 2014-08-25T09:05:00

A very complete game. Well planned and executed. It reminds me of a board game that happens in real time. 85% was a bit difficult to achieve as I chased the AI around. I wonder if it would be awesome at a table with 4 people on a bigger board. The proof of concept here could lead to something very cool!

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

The Mosquito Effect (mosquito simulator) by 01rafael 2014-12-10T08:23:00

Reminds me of Mr. Mosquito. Interesting idea, hope you had fun making it. I didn't make it to killing all the Unity Engineers.

I hit a fence and broke my mosquito.

SnowBomber by Mikel 2014-12-10T10:08:00

Excellent looking game. Hard to kill the enemies with the bombs. If they had patterns and not random movement it might be easier to play but I got killed when I got too close since it's one hit and dead. The Music is nice. It would have helped to not have all the bomb audio stack. It can get really annoying.

Snowbotron by Elrobo 2014-12-10T08:36:00

I like it, the animations were polished and worked well. Seems like you were bent on Snowman theme! I liked the idea of enemies picking up your presents! Arena could have been bigger and the action a bit more frantic to replicate that Robotron feel.

One screen Labyrinth by NaoisTheGuardian 2014-12-10T02:55:00

Worked on my MacBook Air running OS X 10.9.5

Simple and well done. Bums me out that I got to the green tower before time ran out but time expired before it scored. I played it a few times

Energy Supply by Daniel Debert 2014-12-08T11:17:00

I started with a Wind Turbine Selected and that confused me for a bit because I realized I didn't have enough money to play it.

I like the concept, I could imagine a game about an energy economy that you play against/with other players.

Sad Little War-Bot by sorlok 2014-12-10T07:06:00

The download link at the top of the page is 404. The app file otherwise is just a directory of files and a zip would be helpful.

Village Defender by Wilou1428 2014-12-10T08:57:00

The interface is a bit hard to use but I like the concept. It'd be cool if the enemies responded to the map somehow, so the position of your town and it's defenses took more of a role. I wasn't sure what was happening in the combat, what was effective or why I would lose. If you added some town management, I could see it easily being my kind of game!

The Screen Space by KickBack 2014-12-18T09:41:00

I really liked it. Some of the writing was a little on the nose. Just felt a little too self aware but I liked the theme you employed. The art is well done and the puzzles were well designed. Wish I didn't have to go back to the old man multiple times to figure out what to do with the bucket. Excellent job!

Swarmed by DonovanWu 2014-12-18T10:03:00

Good work getting this done during finals. (I hope your finals came first!) I like seeing people who have a passion for making games that's so big, they just can't help themselves and jump in and make something. I liked the cover moving. If you made a modular cover system that changed as the waves of enemies came in, it could be interesting. You could find cover to regen health or plot a course to go pick up some ammo. The whole time I played the game, I was sort of expecting to pick up better weapons but I got "swarmed" instead.

Straight Fighter by felix3456 2014-12-10T08:50:00

I've never seen a fighting game in an LD Compo. So congrats on that. I like the concept but the level could have been a little easier to get around since the wall jumping is kind of hard to do. I didn't have two people to play with so that part was lost on me.

Alien Harvesting Simulator by kmasiulis 2014-12-18T09:48:00

Well done on getting a tower defense game up and running in such a short amount of time! I liked the interface of just dragging what I wanted to buy onto the field. The enemy spawns could use more variety. All the weapons "fired" in the same way so I didn't actually know if my nuker or howitzer were actually firing. Just doing some on screen representation will bit huge in the feedback loop and player interaction. Plus everyone likes big booms!

Ludumoids by Zanaku 2014-12-18T10:13:00

I couldn't get the main menu resolution options to work. When I shot them they just floated away.

The concept reminds me of Ikaruga. I think three colors might be a bit hardcore if you upped the pace of the game. Maybe play with the idea of only having two? Kinda ruins the whole RGB thing.

Office Gaming Inception by AMS 2014-12-10T08:14:00

I couldn't figure out what to do in the adventure game. I found the hands hard to control (that may have been the point). I liked that I tried to exploit the squeeze toy (Snowman.... nice) and it popped hahaha. I like the concept and use of the theme!

Note, I almost didn't play your game because there's an ad in front of it. It's your game but I'm going to think a bit about whether that's in the spirit of LD.

fisheyeroids by H4ssi 2014-12-14T02:01:00

The fish eye approach to a shooter is pretty cool. The following things could help quite a bit:

-Reduce the scale of your ships so that your camera is "further" out so you can use the fish eye effect to show the ships coming. In other words, so you can widen the gradient of the refraction so you can see the ships coming
-The ships shoot at you from almost off screen and there's nothing you can do but take the hits. You could add some degree of innacuracy and range to the enemies
-A game title screen would help as would a game over screen and restart
-Now that I type this, maybe get rid of shooting enemies entirely, if there was asteroids and just kamikaze enemy ships, that could be fun.

The download version didn't seem to work for me. I'd execute it and nothing would happen. Might want to zip up your Mac version (Because a .app is just a folder).

Teeny Tiny Little Ball by FerraWare 2014-12-08T10:51:00

The simple concept is awesome when you extended it bit by bit. My space bar does not forgive you but if you took this forward it could be a fun game to play on a single screen touch device.

Also, I broke the ball out of the prison, did I win?

Game System by Catwheel 2014-12-10T08:06:00

I think it's cool that you put together a virtual system. a few people used the theme in this manner and it's cool. The games were hard. Couldn't figure out how to beat the dragon or what to do after the party room. It could be very cool if you made a collection of mini games and there was a meta game on top of that, like something in the world the console exists in that is the reason why you're playing all these games.

Capolla On Ice by UnionCorp 2014-12-14T01:34:00

Not that I had another person to play with, but I couldn't start your game. My Macbook Air nor my iMac have a right control key! So I couldn't lock in the second player's character selection to start the game!

FergusonTV by FergusonTV 2014-12-10T09:47:00

HehPal by chakitp 2014-12-10T07:11:00

Can you put your OS X .App file in a zip? It's just a folder and we'd have to download each file individually to get your game running.

Gray Goo by Arowx 2014-12-10T10:00:00

Excellent entry. I like the interpretation of the theme. It was somewhat easy, I didn't feel threatened at any point nor did I know what my goal was. The presentation using text probably isn't the best idea since I'm thrown into a dual stick shooter, I don't have time to read. You could have read it out loud. It could have been the patient you're in talking to you! That would have been cool.
