LD28 — You Only Get One

A Weird Love Game by Dmitrix 2013-12-16T09:53:00

I really dig the art style although I'd loved to see some animations.
It is very short and you seemingly can't "win". A longer level, faster girl, maybe some obstacles, a "win screen" and some music and it could be a really fun game!

Lost In Transmission by mtrc 2013-12-16T16:21:00

My personal contest winner so far. Great job! Very polished!

You Only Get One Night by Red Mike 2013-12-16T17:20:00

Suffers from santa getting stuck everywhere and the fact that the room layout is always identical and the toys are not placed very strategically.
However I like the general idea. Could be quite good with some more time spent on randomizing rooms and "intelligent" toy placement. But thats the problem with ludum dare. So much to do, so little time.

Game Of Life by feizenbara 2013-12-16T16:53:00

Nice take on the game of life although I think in its current form its a little bit broken. The virae seem to have basically no influence on the game itself, for me it runs in auto mode up to several thousand points.

Idea:
Make the virae a lot more deadly, give the player the ability to set more than one cell per turn and disable hints.

The last Stand by grifdail 2013-12-16T18:39:00

The game is hard!!

I like they way the rocket behaves though, very quirky!

Exclamation Life by Punga 2013-12-16T20:08:00

One of the more unique games. It felt a little bit masochistic playing the game until the end. Liked your writing style and I actually planned to tell you about your typos but apparently the text is self aware and put these typos in there on purpose!

Dumb Treasures by GagaPete 2013-12-16T09:58:00

Quite nice for eight hours of work.

OneChance by Makdaam 2013-12-16T20:01:00

I forgot to save the game over message but I fell to death because I walked too far to the right sight and fell into a yellow sea. I don't know if it was a bug or a feature but in my game all buildings and NPCs were constantly bouncing, which made them look really happy.

I noticed too late that you can shoot your weapon (while falling down into the lava sea) and the game won't let me play again to test it out.

BUTTERSLIDE by Mnemusyne 2013-12-16T17:03:00

Solid puzzle/reaction game. Music gets really annoying though and at least on my system (slow netbook) the buggy collision detection got me stuck in walls several times. I got stuck at the level where you meet three knives the first time as it seems impossible for me to do (I suspect cpu timing problems). Poor toast got knived a couple of dozend times!

Atomic Fission! by Kotucz 2013-12-16T18:45:00

At first I thought that you went very far from the theme. But actually it's one of the games that come closest - only one user interaction for the whole game.

It's fun to watch the particles. I was immediately reminded of the movie Gravity. Nicely done!

You Only Get One Gift (for christmas) by Bw2801 2013-12-16T14:52:00

I am error guy was a nice touch (binding of isaac?)

Your game is finished, solid and obviously playtested. Maybe a little bit easy (although I got stuck once in a toilet). Well done!

One shot by Jod 2013-12-16T13:18:00

The interface feels unnecessarily complicated and a "skip intro" button would have been nice.

Otherwise I liked it! Sadly the emperor did not approve of my cardboard hiding abilities...

Dead Planet by Hypnohustla 2013-12-16T19:08:00

Great game and execution! Really hard on a slow system though as the rocket shields get slowed down a lot more than the enemies by lag

Byte's Socks by drkrunk 2013-12-18T09:33:00

Sadly wouldn't run for me on linux. Just opens up to a blank white screen.

My Champion by jacklehamster 2013-12-19T11:56:00

Haha the feeling of unfairness is strong with this one! Just had to play the game until I managed to get at least one goal in against these *****

Ex Nihilo by Walnoot 2013-12-16T10:24:00

Seems interesting, though it crashes when I try to build a road:

Exception in thread "LWJGL Application" java.lang.NullPointerException at walnoot.ld28.screens.GameScreen.update(GameScreen.java:234)

Would have liked to see where you go with the base building!

You Only Got One Shot by SleepyStudios 2013-12-18T09:43:00

Had problems when running two clients on the same linux machine. Only the selected client would update and the other one would queue every action until I switched over. After using two computers everything worked fine though.

Graphics are fine. Multiplayer is great (and I now from my own entry how much problems that can give you, nearly didn't make the deadline when I found out that the server wouldn't properly work on the intended windows machine).

Music is fun and the game is pretty good for what it does. Best one-shot-game so far. May try it later with a friend.

Lost in Space by loxo 2013-12-16T12:57:00

I like where the game is going but one can see that you didnt get as far with the gameplay as you hoped. With a more fleshed out trading and clue system (+ whatever you planned for the travel segments) this could be quite entertaining!

Didn't find the clue though.

Chatbox Galore by zorfmorf 2013-12-16T15:14:00

I added a tutorial after going through the server logs. Hope that clears things up!

One Hour, One Shot, One Way Out? by Eskoala 2013-12-16T20:27:00

I scored 11/11 points on my first run without actually seeing any zombies so I don't know if this was planned. Good for Sophie that she turned up on her own or I would have been forced to leave her behind.

Insane Techniques by canon 2013-12-16T10:19:00

The control layout is a bit confusing, maybe use buttons the next time?
Quite content heavy compared to most entries!

Hamlet by derdragon 2013-12-16T22:44:00

I'm impressed, great great art and animations and the game idea itself is creative as well (albeit very confusing at the beginning, your tips helped). Oh how I lamented...

Wedding Rush by olafsworld98 2013-12-16T18:32:00

I had several graphic glitches when running this game under a linux/chromium combination where it looked like the background wasn't drawn fully sometimes. Took me a while to get the car running. Oh and a "you win" screen would be nice!

The blue present by Ayte 2013-12-16T15:06:00

The music is really good although it felt a little out of place. The package deflection physics are great!

Last Minute Christmas Chopping by Notch 2013-12-16T13:21:00

Good game, good polish!

Mayor's Holiday by Corné Dorrestijn 2013-12-16T10:07:00

I liked it! The record seems to be buggy for me. After he puts the record on the player I don't get the newspaper, he is just standing there, moving his legs.

First really "finished" game I have tested!

Otzi's Last Journey by Rex Peppers 2013-12-16T21:52:00

If I had read the description properly, it wouldn't have taken me several tries to find out how to pick up the flowers...
Poor Ötzi, getting attacked by a whole battalion of archers.

record: 15 flowers

Maverick by Madball 2013-12-16T11:20:00

I really liked this one and tried to finish it. However I got stuck searching for the permit. I persuaded everyone and asked all the questions and there doesnt seem to be anything left to do.

I both liked the persuading and the asking mechanic, although both seemed a bit too random for my choice. And an option to rotate the tiles for persuasion would have made it a little bit more engaging.

Maverick by Madball 2013-12-16T16:28:00

I probably overlooked somebody as it prompted me to get a permit when trying to enter the castle. The city layout is a bit confusing. Great original game idea anyways!

LD29 — Beneath the Surface

Space to go by geekdrums 2014-04-28T14:26:00

The only I didn't like about the game ist that it's very hard to experience the music without small audio hops (if you know what I mean) as you have to press space slightly before you visually reach the next line. Maybe if there wasn't a line but a small bar and whenver you hit space anywhere inside the bar the music plays on without interruption? Aside from that though great, creative entry + I can hear the music on your soundcloud.

Not your Average Mining Emulator by Ace 2014-04-28T13:08:00

"Can you dig all the ores?" I don't know but I tried and only gave up after I cleared the first layer and realized how big the stone layer is :D

It's not possible to walk or fall out of the world, but if you build a ladder high enough, the game segfaults (at least under linux it does).

The controls for the menu took a little bit of getting used to and when jumping underground I sometimes bugged through the ceiling all the way up to the surface - which is very useful if you forgot to bring enough ladders (bulding a staircase takes very long). Was fun!

Was there some secret or ending if I had mined all the ores?

Electric Sieve by ohsqueezy 2014-05-07T17:04:00

I had problems with the controls, they seemed counter intuitive (I always moved the "grid" into the wrong direction. Interesting concept though

Shadows Below by HeroesGrave 2014-05-03T10:14:00

Ran the gflw version without a problem. Cool game! Played through until the end. Works very well and it's good to see a ludum dare entry with a little bit more content that still seems finished.

Mini Metro Subway Tycoon by ripatti 2014-05-15T16:25:00

One of my favourite entries so far! Too bad you didn't manage to put in some music/sounds and a tutorial to make it more accessible.

Now I'll check out the post-compo version.

Village By The Lake by KJScott 2014-05-03T09:35:00

The only thing I don't really like is that you named the evil/death part russia (at least that's written on the sign). This is way to loaded and I would usually refrain from bringing real world politics into games.

Beast Emerging by adcrusher 2014-04-28T15:26:00

Honestly a great entry. Loads of fun, great theme interpretation, great optics (Especially the evolve animation).

Only problem is that sometimes it feels like you couldn't have done anything to avoid damage:

- Depending on where a helicopter drops a bomb, it is impossible to dodge it.
- Dragons seem to have inconsistent fire speed and sometimes they fire so fast that you can't "fit between shots".
- Collision detection feels very unforgiving. Everything gives you full damage even if it seems to miss or just graze your legs.

The running bombs are great because whenever you eat one it was entirely your own fault.

Surface Defence by Aske 2014-04-28T17:52:00

Took me five tries to beat it and it was very close. Fun and good level of difficulty

Deep Descent by sirdorius 2014-05-03T08:42:00

I like the direction this is going (concept, art style and music) and would love to play the polished/finished version.

Things I noticed during my playthrough
- Very often random explosion sounds while playing even when no enemies are on the screen. Takes a little bit away from the otherwise good music
- The camera position when walking makes it hart to see where I am going and often I will run right into an enemy because I can't see them coming
- Jump seems to be not working more often than not and is not high enough to be of any use (to jump over a portal f.e)
- If you play on after the first death enemies often drop several portals at once and they lead all over the map (it doesn't seem to happen on the first run so I guess that's a bug?)

Hole by sapermysz 2014-04-28T14:15:00

What is that thing supposed to be that kills you when you reach the first corner? First I thought that it's an exploding chicken but it seems to be a box with two arms.

Had a hart time with this game as it seems very random if your pickaxe hits an enemy or not and ammunition is sparse (or I can't aim). Had to move a lot back and for for ever enemy.

Balancitos by NickZangus 2014-04-29T09:37:00

Great game! Only problem is the mouse-only control. Keyboard control would allow the player to actually watch what's going on on the island instead of having to concentrate on the weights.

Harpoon Explorer by zn01wr 2014-05-03T09:25:00

I got so far as seeing the title screen but when I press space, the game crashes:
http://aborium.com/public/images/python_error.png

It's a shame because what I've seen so far (visuals/audio) looks really great

Galaxy Universialis by Capitals 2014-05-15T15:40:00

It's sad that this is highly unfinished as I really love Europa Universalis. Will check back for a more advanced version though!

GameJammed by ShivanHunter 2014-04-28T17:15:00

Doesn't work on linux because of you reference lower case files in your code but you have upper case files in your folder structures (Death.png vs death.png).

Worked flawlessly after I renamed everything.

Looks great but is a tad too dark. Had to shoot constantly in order to orient myself. The player arrow moves a little wonkey and the collision detection seems inefficient/ is called too often (noticable slowdown with 10+ projectiles around).

Aside from that I really enjoyed slaughtering eclipse, git and box2d :D

Project Nether by TheOZone 2014-05-03T10:18:00

Worked fine on archlinux.

ResourceDivers by Rock48 2014-04-28T16:34:00

Hey rockdude, it's me!

Just wanted to give your game a quick spin. What I didn't know was how much content you put in there! °O°
Took me the better half of an hour to play it to the end.

Sadly, instead of the win screen in your screenshots, I got an error message when I tried to buy the escape boat. Here is a screenshot, so maybe you can fix it for other players:
http://aborium.com/public/images/resdiver_error.png

The game itself is very straightforward but it got me hooked trying to get all the funny upgrades. Whenver I thought THIS has to be the last one, there popped up another one! I'd change the end so that the last item you need for the rescue boat is a power crystal. I had a couple of them already but because I was short on uranium I had to do a couple of additional runs.

Good work!

ResourceDivers by Rock48 2014-04-28T21:57:00

I'm running the latest version (0.9.1) from the looks of it, it has something to do with your lighting library.

ResourceDivers by Rock48 2014-04-28T21:57:00

Maybe it has something to do with me using linux?

SkinDeep by Kitatus_Studios 2014-04-28T15:03:00

Is there any way to get a different game over screen than the "You killed me, you monster" screen? I climbed the tower-thingy at the end to the top and then jumped down both with full blood and and with missing blood samples, but got the same ending both times.

Short but with very good atmospheric audio!

Reflection by thebmxeur 2014-04-28T13:43:00

It took me reeeeeally long to finish this one, lot of swearing included. In fact, I'm so happy about it, that I provide proof http://aborium.com/public/misc/reflection_end.png

Really solid gameplay with just the right difficult curve.

You should create a post-ld version with sound, updated graphics and more levels!

Achluophobia by Divinorium 2014-04-28T14:02:00

Mhm, your Linux version seems to be the windows version it well and it doesn't run under wine (stays stuck in the loading screen)

Beneath the Surface: Monkeys story by dosER_42 2014-05-03T08:44:00

linux version 404's

Beneath the Surface: Monkeys story by dosER_42 2014-05-03T08:46:00

I just noticed that it's just two times the regular link in a row, so easily fixable

Beneath the Surface: Monkeys story by dosER_42 2014-05-03T09:08:00

Played it all the way to the end! Lots of dead monkeys (around 30 I think). I definitely like your take on the theme.

- It would be more fun if you could have any indication where the mines are. Maybe a small red dot so if you pay attention you can avoid a mine?
- The controls are quite difficult.
- What do the other two abilites on the left do? I can click them but they don't seem to have any effect. Oh and it would be useful it the cooldown for jump would reset on death.

Sword and Shovelry by tayl1r 2014-04-28T14:43:00

It took me until the fourth level until I realized that there are arrows indicating the possible positions. Should have read the description. It's actually quite a good mechanic as the first shell is more difficult to find than the last one. Sadly I haven't gotten any further than the first bird level on two tries as I keep getting stuck on trees.

Other than collision detection however the game is very polished! Good job!

LD31 — Entire Game on One Screen

Escape the Bug Screen by angela 2014-12-09T20:50:00

I love adventure games! Good to play an entry that seems finished for a change. While I have to admit that burning strange looking coffee was not something I immediately thought of, there were not too many combinations to try out if you're stuck AND you included a walkthrough. Nice game :)

Don't worry about your source. I think we all have written some code that we are not proud of this weekend :)

Doll house: q-Be or not q-Be by Liam :D 2014-12-08T15:07:00

Am I not getting something or is there no way to increase the curiousity stat?

Doll house: q-Be or not q-Be by Liam :D 2014-12-08T15:13:00

Forget it, I just found out that it means I should read a book. I thought it was about exploring and tried roaming the attic and the garage.

Mini Minotaur by ljdp 2014-12-08T14:08:00

Wow that was really fun! Simple yet engaging. Best one I've played so far. Interesting to see your sketches and how your initial idea has evolved.

CHANGE - A homeless roguelike survival simulator by DanHayesGamer 2014-12-08T13:04:00

Mood works really well, played two times (because I didn't get the dog the first time) and have to agree that it would have been even better if there was some sort of choice as to from which people I beg (or a day running a bit faster) or some other mechanic that makes begging a bit more interactive. Loved the choices with random consequences and how some comments affect your mood.

Gratification Crisis by zorfmorf 2014-12-08T14:38:00

@Tinimations: Damn I feared that it would not be obvious enough. You need to click on the brown application (supposed to be a text editor) and type something on your keyboard (your actual one, not the ingame one)

Gratification Crisis by zorfmorf 2014-12-12T09:59:00

@BoxedMeatRevolution Thank you for the detailed feedback! I totally agree with the repetitiveness, got really annoying on Sunday night when I playtested it for an hour :D

Theme Hacker by wdebowicz 2014-12-08T13:54:00

And gone is the theme ... which makes your game not fit the theme? ;)

Panoptes by vrld 2014-12-09T22:43:00

That's a lot of game on one screen! Feels really polished and is very fun (and stressful) to play. While not being very good at this I nearly beat the highscore when the snake ate a yellow blob and the whole tower came down in a multi-combo chain reaction :)

Defend the Earth! by Aglavra 2014-12-08T12:07:00

At first I was confused by the ball often being stuck in horizontal movement. After I re-read the instructions and noticed that you can push the ball with space, I made it through. After that it was a fun and quick game! Thank you for including a livebar :)

Snowmän! Factory by puppetmaster 2014-12-09T09:16:00

Nice puzzle game! Switching between levels and the level reset could be a little bit faster though. Credits came suprisingly soon, would have liked some more (and harder) levels!

Turtles World by Boehrsi 2014-12-08T12:31:00

129.67 seconds - My turtle is happy now :)

My left hand hurts like hell though, I had to play it two times as I forgot to write down the highscore the first time.

Shame that you couldn't get to all those planned features, they sound fun.

Mascarpone by Domicuc 2014-12-08T14:37:00

Doesn't look very good but it kept me playing quite some time! Very fun!

Free mode is problematic though, the openings where the enemies come in are so large, so it's very difficult to build a maze (I love building mazes) because you need to reinvest all money into upgrading your towers. Still it motivated me to try again and try to hold on one more wave!

Mascarpone by Domicuc 2014-12-08T15:41:00

@Domicuc I think the part about graphics came on more harsh than it should. I'm not a fan of the visuals them but that doesnt effect the gameplay which is fun!. I'm actually still playing!

Square by onilink_ 2014-12-08T11:42:00

First off, it's very well constructed and visuals are nice. I played every game mode once (including tutorial). Most players will start with the default mode on very easy and I feel like that mode is a bit too slow paced, yet new colors come in quiet often meaning that a new, untrained player will loose and it will take him quite a while to do so. Maybe you should ease beginners in a little. When I tried sprint mode this is where the game really became fun for me. Rounds are fast and you sometimes finish a block by accident, which is nice. Played way longer than I planned.

Red Repair by Red Sigma 2014-12-12T09:51:00

I couldn't get the audio to run under linux so I won't vote as apparently it really adds a lot to the game. Still loved it though, made ith through with one fighter :)

You requested some feedback, so here it is: This could be really made into something great if you added some more gameplay! Maybe add some managed repair ressources and give some more feedback as to what happened to the ship (Destroyed by laser fire after shields went offline, couldn't make it back due to engine failure, etc) and maybe even some rudimentary mission descriptions and results to get you more invested into the fighters. Different missions could have different requirements (Battle outside of hangar? -> Weapons and shields. Deep space reconnaisance? -> Life support and engines) coupled with the ability to target subsystem repair. And/or pilots could stand beside their ships and give some comments as to what is most important for that mission for them (or crack some jokes) so that you have more connections to them. But I'm sure you had plenty of ideas yourself already that didn't make it into the game due to time constraints. Really hoping for a post-ld version!

Error: 562 by rouflaquette 2014-12-08T10:57:00

Looks good and plays good. The first room can be challenging but easy once you realise, that the turrets can't hit you if you fly low to the ground. The long tunnel with all the poles is balanced well - if you fly too slow you get shot to pieces, if you you fly too fast you will crash into one of the pillars. Quick and good fun!

Grandpa's Grid by NoGrapes 2014-12-09T08:41:00

Yey I did it! Took me a few tries as it takes some look to get a good maze layout but that is part of the fun. What do you do with the password?

LD32 — An Unconventional Weapon

* Great visuals

* Fun story
* Fun puzzles (great learning curve)
* Good length
* Sooo polished!

Broadship Explorer by jhrrsn 2015-04-25T09:52:00

Thanks for including a linux version!

I don't seem to be able to light the first bulb as well. Tried everything I could think of, but I always run out of energy and the voice says I don't have charged it long enough. There is a gangway filled with boxes in the upper right starting area. I was able to clear the first five or so boxes by crashing into them in the right angles but the remaining ones seem to have physics disabled on them.

Can you maybe give a hint on how to activate the first bulb? Maybe it's a bug with the linux version? I really like the start of the game and will check back in a few days to retest.

I just wanna go to work! by Xatulu 2015-04-25T10:13:00

Made it to work and back home again. I had hoped for some kind of office romance between your guy and mary, but well what can you do.

Had some real lag issues at the beginning when jumping but I was able to fix that by making the browser window very very small. The sand mechanic is a little bit weird to be honest but it's definitely an usual weapon. The music really stood out!

@DracirTheThird That's actually a bug that I liked so mich that I turned it into feature :D

Battle Isle by zorfmorf 2015-04-25T10:52:00

@UrbanHelsing As soon as you build your first tower a panel should appear bottom left. It gets more visible once you have the second one! Hope you have fun :)

Battle Isle by zorfmorf 2015-04-25T11:05:00

Yeah I overdid it in the end when I steadily made the AI faster and better. I can't beat the ai everytime as well. Would have loved to fix that but it is not a gamebreaking-bug, just a balancing issue so I am not allowed to :/

Battle Isle by zorfmorf 2015-04-28T22:32:00

@Mono Buildings just produce one type of resource each, houses just spawn three villagers. Sometimes the ai players destroy each other so you win by default

You Can Shave the Baby by chikun Dev Team 2015-04-23T06:34:00

Really really fun game!

The Goatboy by Ouro17 2015-04-21T10:26:00

It actually was a lot of fun to play this. Some things I wrote down between tries:
* Sometimes you don't get health or ammunition for a long time (due to it being placed randomly) which can make it nearly impossible to win these runs
* The movement mechanics are a bit rough, especially around platform edges
* Sometimes the strange guy-like creatures attack the goat from below by glitching into the platform
* It's actually quite hard to make it to the end
* The cat weapon is hilarious
* It seems to be impossible to jump over the walls, believe me, I've tried

SFW by headchant 2015-04-20T17:17:00

Wow I'm really struggling with this. I can't count the number of tries I had and I only made it up to 73 seconds. It's hectic right from the start and it's a little bit trial and error how to survive the first rockets. I think some kind of breathing time (waves like in most TD's?) might have helped to make it a little bit easier if you are new to the game. Basically I fully agree with Madballs comment. However it's still a lot fun to survive as long as possible!

Very polished and was really fun!

By the way: Linux version works great.

A Trainer's Progress by JArcane 2015-04-27T16:49:00

My trainer seems to be a bit determined to trade away the best pokemon in the time from time to time so that makes things slower than they need to be.

Really liked all the pokemon references. Just got my first badge and apparently sobbed uncontrollably for a few hours after that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

SHAMPOO PLEASE by napedia 2015-04-20T06:57:00

Started really great but it feels like you sadly didn't get to finish the game. Is there any other way to play than just pressing the green bar and immediately loose?

Chemtrail Madness by zsoltbartok 2015-04-27T17:00:00

Nice idea and fun to play. Best part is when you finish a symbol and everyone on the ground looses their shit.

I really liked the music as well, simple but really works together with the game.

All in all a good polished entry!

Made it to 58 coins until I couldn't find a reachable one for several tries any more. Played quite a long time and it was really motivating to scrunge up the enough coins to see what the next upgrade would give me!

Only worked in chrome for me as well, in firefox 37.0.2 you see just a blue sky and the rocket (linux system)

I had fun playing it!

It takes a bit to figure out how to properly descend and where/why it is allowed or not allowed to fall. On a climbing game, the penalty for falling through a whole or falling in general is inherent, since you want to go up. So here it can be confusing.

Falling damage and save landing spots (cushions or something) could help, since it would also allow the player to gamble on taking a risky jump onto a pad several layers down if the opportunity presents itself.

Just-one-more-tile miner by zorfmorf 2021-04-27T17:38:56Z

@kel Thanks! Yeah, there is a (albeit small) chance that the game starts out in a no-move-possible situation. I don't know how the QA department didn't catch that!

Just-one-more-tile miner by zorfmorf 2021-04-28T13:39:57Z

@lumue You probably reached the end of the card stack (top left value went to zero), so the game couldn't draw any new cards. I agree that game doesn't really inform about that very well

That was short and fun! Really liked the outro and sentiment

Sometimes I fell for a very long time and still survived, a few times I got stock in the platforms and couldn't move left or right, but other than that it played fine. Especially the delayed stop worked well as a platform mechanic.

The really good music and sound effects give this game a very strong mood, especially combined with falling far and then anxiously waiting to see if it turns into a game over or if the light is slowly crawling back up again.

I couldn't really focus on the messages once I got further down because I was focusing on not dying (again) and the text boxes felt frustrating because they are in the way of me seeing the next platforms. Not sure if that is on purpose.

I personally liked this one a lot, even though I usually don't like clickers. Slowly accelerating and eventually breezing by the distant stars really helps reinforce the enormity of our universe.
