TWIRL - THE HAIRY HEIST by mtrc 2012-12-17T13:05:00
Thanks! I only had 3 hours on Saturday about about six on Sunday. I should've got further! But I had a lot of fun.

Thanks! I only had 3 hours on Saturday about about six on Sunday. I should've got further! But I had a lot of fun.
Wait does getting spotted teleport you? Dammit I thought I remade the jar so that wouldn't happen. I'll reupload sometime - I meant to disable it because I couldn't get it working right.
Thanks for playing all the way there! That was a real boost to know you enjoyed it that far. :) I'll definitely try and fix this up, and make sure that bit works too.
Utterly brilliant. Best entry I've seen so far, enjoyed every second of it.
I loved the idea but I couldn't get much out of it, unfortunately. I thought it was innovative but the controls weren't quite intuitive enough, and it seemed like it was possible to get yourself into an unwinnable state (by filling in the top-level holes and consuming the sugar). I might be wrong.
nice work though. Looked quite nice and novel idea!
Yes! This has so much potential. That last level was GREAT. Please extend this with more levels and complete it. Wonderful.
Thanks a lot! The ending comes a bit abruptly, I don't really explore the mechanics much, but thank you so much for playing. There certainly was a bit of personal code frustration in there (some of the code is lifted right out, and "possible bug" is an actual comment!)
Oh dangit, I forgot to add the reminder of pressing R to restart the level. I meant to put some on-screen text for it. I'm so sorry!
Thank you, everyone! I'm so glad you all enjoyed playing. I need to work on tuning my character control generally, almost every game I've made I get told things move too quickly :P
All your lovely comments really cheered me up. Thank you!
:D Haha, well done for finding them and thanks for checking the code out :) They were originally part of an extended endgame where the player fell out of the game and into the game engine. Me, the coder, attempted to delete the player out of memory and you ran to escape. I realised it would take too long to code, so I ditched it.
Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. :)
Thanks for the comments everyone! Feeling very special that you're taking the time to play :)
Thanks everyone for still plugging away at this! I'm having a great time reading these comments.
KEFIR, is this the "Possible bug" level? Try touching the blocks on the far left and right first, and then just chase the Grey and touch the blocks as quickly as possible before he can stop you! :)
Also I like the "Backstage at a play" idea, napalm :)
Sylvain.p - can you give me some more info? Are you on a modern mac by any chance?
Okay, cheers. If you can get any terminal output (say, running the java -jar command in CMD) that would be ace. Otherwise I'll try and find a fix - I know there are some problems higher up in LibGDX but I'm not sure how they affect 64bit machines.
Thanks for sticking with it and getting it working, Sylvain! I really, really appreciate it :)
Another Mondrian game! I love it. Love this style so much, am glad to see it featuring in Ludum Dare. This has similar mechanics to another game I played but I think (not wishing to be harsh on the other one) that I prefer this implementation. Tighter, brighter, and the output feels more Mondrian-like. Very nice.
Really cute game. Took some thinking to work out and I didn't finish it (got stuck on the level that looped top to bottom). I also cheated on one of the levels because there's a bug - if you press restart, your first jump is a double jump. I felt bad but I really couldn't work out the solution! :)
Lovely idea with the variables and ending.
Enjoyed this very much! Very cute, smooth controls too. :) Music was quite a shock though!
I really liked this! It was a little too hard for me (I gave up on the last level, the Gauntlet) but I liked some of the ideas and you had some cool stuff going on with the messages/narration. Some thoughts:
1. Some of the tests are a little too tight (the second level is very hard even though it's the first one you can die on.
2. If you die with the red powerup, you still have it when you respawn, don't know if that's a bug.
Nice game! Well done.
I really love Mondrian, and these divide-the-space games. A few things were odd - the division logic seemed weird, sometimes it would divide another area than I seemed to be marking out. Second, it was interest (but also initially confusing) that the area marked out wasn't related to the score like this genre of games normally. Still loved it though. Here's one of my masterpieces: http://imgur.com/i8a3OHE
Loved it! Great idea, a bit fiddly to play but I enjoyed reading the descriptions of the items so much.
Incidentally, at the end I just sold everything, bought a coffee machine, and sat back waiting for eviction. Art imitating life. Thanks for playing my game!
This was pretty fun! I wasn't sure why there was a minimum elements to be destroyed - why not let us be creative and reach solutions faster? But I enjoyed the aesthetic a lot and the ideas in there.
Non-XNA link is broken at the moment. :(
Loved it. Great concept, well executed.
Absolutely brilliant. Really zen feel to it, loved the writing, the music arrangement and zoning, the weird complexity of the mechanics that seem simple at first. Can't wait to go back to this and get stuck into it.
It tells me i'm "missing required files", not sure if that's me or XNA?
Cute game, nice simple concept. Wasn't entirely clear what was losing me health at some points, but okay nonetheless!
The game is still 404'ing! :(
Any chance of a compiled executable?
Totally fun! I agree with Jarcas. Great effort, loved the jumping and wireframe art.
Very cute little entry. Needs some additional structure, maybe sticking to the track space or something, and a score system, but a nice starter. Well done!
The theme is beautiful, although the gameplay was a bit tricky. Would like to see it developed further though!
Yeah, I think you need separate hosting. If you don't have hosting, I'd be happy to host it for you - email me mike @ gamesbyangelina.org
Lovely! Very simple, delightful graphics.
Hey, can you tag your Application link as Windows, not application? Looking forward to trying this when I get home to my windows pc!
For some reason I had a grin on my face the whole time - I was awful at it but I really loved the craziness of the concept, the physicality of it, and the falling blocks destroying everything I attempted! Good work, really nice toygamething.
Loved it. Really loved it. Superb audio - excellent use of sound effects for jumping. I loved the mechanic, and I noticed myself really becoming patient and focusing on each jump. Played it to completion, a few jumps felt a bit unfair but please take this mechanic and work with it in future! I'd love a more rhythm-based thing with it, perhaps an endless runner where you charge and time jumps or something. Excellent aesthetics, really enjoyed it.
Liked this a lot - runs lovely on my Macbook by the way - I enjoyed the musical beats from bisecting the world a lot, too. I wish it didn't close when you died! I wanted to reattempt it right away. Played it a few times though, really enjoyed it. Well done!
Eesh, how big is the download? 60mb and still going! If you cna get a smaller download working too (maybe a 'minimal' version with fewer music files etc.) maybe that would help? Looking forward to playing it though.
Okay having started playing it I see it's very dependent on audio. Consider doing a really low-bitrate release though - otherwise not many people will download it I think :(
Playing now! :)
Hoooo boy. Ok. Um. :P I think I'll avoid leaving a rating this time, but I did enjoy the surrealism. I ahven't played bioshock infinite so I think I might be missing a joke or two. Either way, well done for entering! :P
Really loved this. Very relaxing and pretty.
This is a nice twist on the endless runner schtick - I liked balancing killing with not killing. My only suggestion, to make it a bit more challenging, would be to make it so you can't move left and right while holding up or down. That way you have to position yourself to avoid the vertical enemies. Great idea, though!
This now works on 10.8 MacOS, for me anyway. I enjoyed it! Not sure how I feel about it overall, I think a delay at the end of each stage would help me know whether I'd done well or found the shape, etc. I really like the idea though. Nice work!
Link is currently broken for the web version!
Oh, and the windows version.
Really liked it! Glad you got it all working in the end. Very soothing, lovely graphics and general aesthetic. You nailed the theme too, I think. Well done!
I really like the mood, and the endings (I went back and explored it further). The prose is really nice in places too.
I guess part of me would have liked more exploration, but this is me thinking like it's parser-based IF, which is not the only thing Twine can do. So ignore me! I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the mood. Lovely piece.
Thanks for letting me know it was back up :)
Thought the graphics were quite nice (love the colouring) and the blend of RPG combat and typing test is cool! The battles went on for a bit too long for my taste, but it was fun nonetheless.
Also, frying pan.
Pretty cool! I liked the mechanics, both the scope of the game and the graphics really set well with the theme. I think the random generation needs tweaking to ensure that all runs are at least feasible (but I realise this is impossible to do in 48hrs, and also I guess it might be part of the appeal/aesthetic for you).
It started off quite fun, I like the graphics, but overall it felt a little too hard for me - reminiscent of games from my childhood! Would love to see a balanced/tweaked version that's easier to play :)
Wonderful. Great graphics and audio, nice core mechanic. I think for a fuller game you'd need to rethink the dependencies. I would also love me some co-op.
Nice! Very simple, but really well put together.
Nice! I loved this a bunch, even on PC. 1794 my highest score ;)
I liked the mechanic of having to return to the red button. I can see this being quite interesting to play for high scores.
Great idea! I was really charmed by it. I don't think I understood how the scoring worked but the game itself (and the concept of sharing hints) was really cool.
Thanks for sticking with it, Toadpud! :)
ZeDutch: Yes! I hadn't intended for the party swapping mechanic initially, but I didn't have time to write a third party member so I wondered if there were puzzles to be made by combining the two characters. It turned out alright-ish :P Thanks for playing!
Thank you all! I'll reply in turn :)
Zelos - You're very kind! I started really trying hard with my pixelling this year. The Knight is my best sprite yet I think! I'm glad the tutorial was okay.
Kevlanche - I'm honoured! Thanks a lot :) I might try and extend it, I kinda like the idea and it would be good to spend longer working on the level design.
Gaspard - You're right about the theme. The original idea was based off how turn-based roleplaying games sometimes say a turn takes X seconds. I wanted to do a 'Complete the level in 10 seconds' kinda thing, but I also wanted the player to have time to think carefully. This was the tradeoff!
Fractal - Hey! Everyone gets stuck on that level. I designed the levels really quickly and if I could complete them I just moved on. Also you weren't the only person to tell me that the order of actions was confusing. I've been playing and makings lots of roguelikes this year, and I kinda took their mechanics for granted. I should've included something in the tutorial.
Thanks for the compliment about the music! I love Terry's tool so much. Can't wait to practice more.
Thanks to both of you! I wrote a little bit about the theme above, here it is pasted again:
Gaspard - You're right about the theme. The original idea was based off how turn-based roleplaying games sometimes say a turn takes X seconds. I wanted to do a 'Complete the level in 10 seconds' kinda thing, but I also wanted the player to have time to think carefully. This was the tradeoff!
So I didn't ignore the theme entirely, but I didn't want to force the player into too arbitrary a time limit. Thanks for playing. :)
Fireblend - Thank you! That's really kind :) I'm hoping to expand on it but keep in the 10 steps. Maybe have a variable step target or something, but definitely keep the player focused and thinking about each decision :)
gritfish - Ooh, I've not heard of that game. going to look it up now. Thanks so much!
Hi Taiters - I'll have a think as to why this might be and try to fix it.
Zeppellin - Was it with the eight lava squares in a ring? Everyone gets stuck there, don't worry! Sorry I made it a bit hard, i didn't have time to balance the levels...
Thank you to everyone! Your kind words really made the weekend worthwhile :) Apologies to those who have crashes - if you can run it through a command line (java -jar amulet-in-ten.jar) and let me know what it says I'll try and fix it.
Some tips for puzzles:
"Don't Get Surrounded" - The Thief dies if he ends a turn next to a creature. So try to draw the monsters away so they get picked off one by one. Monsters can't attack or move diagonally!
"The level with the ring of lava" - The tip I've been giving people is the order in which I kill the monsters on this level. Beholder, Troll, Beholder, in that order. Then see if you can solve the rest ;)
Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! Especially suggestions for where to take it next :) I hope I get time to do this. Really appreciate you taking the time to play and rate.
Moving one tile is okay - as the Thief, you have 1 HP which means you'll die if you're attacked. But you get to move first, so if you move up or down, you'll kill the Beholder there and not be attacked by the others.
And thanks for playing!
Utterly great. Perfect ending.
Stellar audio and art work. Really loved the setting and the idea of cycling stages. 10 seconds made it hard to gauge hat was going on, but that's not your fault! Loved it.
Very cute. Wonderful graphics and mood, really well done!
Love the idea! Short and simple, I love photography games.
Wonderful! Made me chuckle, really sharp idea and polished really well.
Superb graphical style and mood. Really atmospheric, a joy to play! I found it pretty hard as it went on, but yeah - develop this further!
Haha. The funniest game I've played so far! The setup is just brilliant. Enjoyed jumping and sliding a bunch.
Hey! There's no play link for this :( Check that your links have http:// at the start, or they don't show otherwise.
Brilliant! So packed with visual detail, and the concept was pretty funny. I really enjoyed playing it.
Really great, very moody. I found the second level a little tricky, I liked the mechanic. A little difficult at first but the atmosphere really won me over.
Okay so I loved the mood, and I think the control systems are a good idea! It does need some tweaking to avoid being incredibly hard though - I thought fall damage maybe made it a bit too difficult. Did you try giving the player the ability to control normal movement? Was that too easy?
I liked the idea though. Would like to see this control scheme panned out in another game!
Just downloaded it, no joy yet. Here's what I see when I launch (plus cmd output):
http://imgur.com/pDUiKfh
Very innovative idea, loved the control system and a great use of the theme!
Very fun idea! You can sort of get stuck on one of the levels (I got out by jumping and then moving the box) so perhaps being able to press R at any time would be good?
I finished it! Cute ending, I liked the cryptic message at the start ;)
A little tricky to play - I wasn't entirely clear on how to save people. but it's a very beautiful and slick game. I'd love to play this with a bit more work on a tutorial or something, because it was relaxing just to fly around in.
Is there a Windows version? I really want to play this!
Yeah, I just downloaded the OS X version, I was expecting a binary! I'll try and see if I can get it compiled later but a binary upload would really help people play your game :)
I really liked the graphics and the mechanics (reminded me a lot of N+!) and I'm impressed by how many levels you included. I guess you can add more as time goes on, if they're loaded via the Internet?
Really liked the visual style!
Great concept! This would be amazing on a touchscreen I think.
I couldn't get the character to move no matter what I tried! Is the idea that you press cursor keys, then after 10 seconds he moves?
Wonderful! Very clever, responsive controls, unusual setting, great audio and advancement system. I think if anything the LD theme held you back, the 10 seconds stopped you from developing the mechanics as much as you wanted, but even then you still threw in stuff like the dogs. Great work!
Lovely graphics! Hope you get to develop it further.
This is a really superb idea for a game. You absolutely should develop this further. Holy crap this was so fun.
Wonderful! Enjoyed it so much, great idea and, a-heh, execution.
I really liked where this was going! It wasn't clear to me that hitting the tree hurt me at first, but after that I enjoyed controlling the player.
The opening text could do with being skippable as it's quite slow. Other than that, keep working on it :)
Nice premise! I like the idea of the game. I think you need something more than clicks to assess how good the player was - maybe different types of zombie that can't be clicked on or something? Check out other puzzle games for inspiration! I think this has promise though :)
I like the idea, and the graphics! Your execution is pretty good, although I couldn't pick up the clocks (no idea why) and if you run out of time to pause, the screen stays slightly greyed which is misleading (because you can be caught! :P)
The intro text is a bit long and wordy too. Maybe spread it out a bit or make it shorter?
Good start though! I really liked the theming.
Lovely little game! Kudos for taking on the Tower Defence challenge, and I thought you did great on the art and music. It was first-time music-making for me too, so I feel your pain! You did a great job though.
I liked the theme addition. It was a bit easy to simply reset the same few towers over and over, but I still think it worked out well!
Haha, I really loved this. The humour and art are pretty great, and the slowly stacking disguises made me chuckle.
When I play this, most of the content doesn't fit on screen for my aspect ratio. Does this need to be played in widescreen?
Ah, got it - it needs to run in a widescreen resolution.
Nice idea! I liked memorising the layouts, although you can see at night quite well too. A cool idea for a platformer though, fitted with the theme well too.
Liked the art, found it a bit difficult to interact with things (I wanted to get the paperclip but couldn't seem to reach it?) a mouse interface would've been perfect. Still, lovely atmosphere and looks!
Really great idea! I love the art so much, the gameplay is pretty solid and cleverly tied in with the theme. Very nice!
Wonderful! Great idea, dug the art style. Some of the games are instant-fail (I think there's a platformer? I die within one second) but other than that, this was very fun.
Nice idea! The jumping is smooth and the graphics were nice. It's a little hard to collect more than a few coins - maybe spawn 5 at a time or something. My best was 4!
Gorgeous art and a wonderful idea for a game. Well done!
The graphics and animation are really slick! Makes the game feel very polished, and really made it fun to dash around the mazes. The death animation made me grin :P
I finished it! I really liked the control scheme, very simple idea and well-executed! Great job.
Great idea! I loved the mechanic of running back to upgrade stuff. Very tense and the management aspect was a new twist. Really well done.
Thanks both of you! Very kind words :)
Hey NikinCZ! Did you extract the zip file into a folder? Running the jar from within the zip can cause errors.
Thanks for playing everyone! Apologies to those who had issues - hope it wasn't too much trouble. Thanks for playing and replying Steve! :)
Thanks for playing, both of you!
@bttf - You Only Get One chance to send each instruction to the robot ;)
Thanks to everyone who has played, rated and commented! I'm sorry I didn't reply to the comments sooner. I really appreciate it, and the comments always spur me on with the next game :)
@anvoz: Being able to send instructions while moving (except down) is totally intended. It's the only thing that makes the later levels work really, it was hard to design interesting puzzles otherwise :)
@mortus: Thanks for bearing with it and I'm sorry about the repair noise - I think it got corrupted in export from CFXR and became awful. What you've found isn't technically a bug I guess, but rather a feature I didn't make clear - you can't dash downwards. Although it does sound like you managed to do more actions than should be legal in that level. I'll check it out, thanks :)
If you want a tip to try the level again:
Down - Left - Down was right. Try going Left again at this point :)
Nice! Lovely idea, great graphics too. I think adding the unlocked version was a really smart addition - well done on a great game!
Nice work! You packed a lot into this game. Really fun platforming, loved it to bits.
Hey! I pressed "up" at the start, and the game crashed. :)
Very very hard. Love the idea and looked cool, but could barely get past the first screen! :)
Really good work! I'd have liked a visible health meter and maybe a faster movespeed? The core idea is really clever and well implemented given the 48 hours! Well done on all counts :)
Lovely graphics and the concept is great, although a little confusing! Toss in a tutorial and I'm definitely interested in more :)
Loved the graphical style and the audio! Really knocked it out of the park in design terms :)
Great work! I love the art style too. Very fun.
Love the idea - you don't see stuff like this in Ludum Dare often! It was a bit overwhelming with the limited tutorial, but I liked the graphics, the procedural generation, and the general tone of the game. Theme works really well too.
Lovely concept! The intro is a bit slow and I'd love a fast retry to keep playing and experimenting, but the core game is very well-made!
Haha, I really love this concept! I think it fit the theme perfectly, really like the permanence. I was terrible >_>
Very atmospheric! The music was so beautiful. Well done on putting it all together. I enjoyed it a whole bunch.
Love the graphics and audio here! The concept is really nice too - is the level procedural? I didn't opt to retry!
Wow! Fantastic entry. Utterly incredible art, great music, I really loved the gameplay. Well done!
Really like this concept. Nice work.
Oh god this is fantastic. So funny. Such a cute and simple idea, but you executed it really well and it's a really fantastic take on the theme. Really well done!
Really great work on art and animations, and I love the procedural aspect as well as the end-level decisions. Modifying jump height makes the game unwinnable at some point, but up until then I really liked the concept!
Yeah same here - looks lovely but I can't figure out how to control the fella?
Oh man, so good. The graphics are incredible, and it animates so beautifully too. Great work. I like the game concept - definitely flesh it out into a fuller game like you were talking about on Twitter!
Peer pressure: it's not for everyone. Enjoyed the humour! Also the somersaulting was pretty good fun.
Wonderful stuff! Really atmospheric and much more than it appears. Enjoyed it a bunch. 4 rubies, 48 coins, 1 key. :)
Good fun! I think I marginally preferred the shield because in theory it can take more asteroids out? But yeah - lovely graphics, really liked it.
Beautiful graphics! Really consistent style, loved it. Also a really ambitious style of game for Ludum Dare. Well done on pulling it off.
Wow, I really enjoyed that. Like you say, it was a weird little thing but the atmosphere was terrific.
I liked this a surprising amount! I didn't finish it as it's a little too hard for me but the combat was really satisfying. Nice thwunks and movement. I think if you took a look at the combat system and tweaked it with playtesters this would be really awesome.
Thanks everyone! Everyone's comments are really kind.
Shire: You're right, move-counting was not ideal. I didn't want to do straight timing because I felt that was weird to do in the context of a turn-based game, but move counting isn't great either (back and forth waiting sucks).
zara: You're right. Someone mentioned this on Newgrounds too. I had some issues with things moving while tweens were completing, and to simplify it I just had the controls take single inputs and have things stop between turns. The game's a bit slower as a result unfortunately.
Thanks for the feedback both of you! The levels were a bit easy in my opinion as well. It was tough to work out mechanics that synergised in such a short timescale, but I am getting better at it (I think). This is a problem I had in previous Ludum Dare's too!
Thanks everyone for playing it and taking the time to comment!
raulincze: Yeah, the sprites were the one thing I wanted to go back to and didn't quite manage. I was worried if I updated some of the sets it might look even less consistent. It's a shame, I've just started doing autotiling in my other projects!
Fantastic game. Just the right length.
Great idea! The graphics and details were really lovely, there's so much stuff to look at and peek at.
Great atmosphere and graphics. I really loved walking around! A really nice little game.
Great idea! Needs some balancing but this is a really really solid idea. I had a lot of fun looking at all the cards and seeing their effects.
Obviously it inherits a lot from Portal etc. but I like the idea. I think the left-click is pretty clear from the off, but right-click is less obvious. I eventually got it (and then got myself stuck in a level without a restart) but I think you need to make it clearer what's going on. Maybe a shadow of yourself in the other level that you can see with left-click?
+1 on the Mac version if possible
Very, very dark! Was quite hard to see. But I really like the setting and the music was great too. Brighten it up a little bit maybe - I also would've loved mouse aim but maybe that makes it too easy/arcadelike for you?
Nice work!
So beautiful.
Haha. What a great idea. It's not a bad implementation either. I sold my tail though and I couldn't add one back on! A cautionary tale.
The graphics are awesome! I also liked exploring the level and trying to shortcut it - was that intentional? Nice stuff. I think maybe some kinder restarts/checkpoints would've been good.
Wall jump was just a bit too fiddly for me to do reliably. I liked the core mechanic idea though.
I was really enjoying this! Some maybe spoilers I guess:
How does the game end? I climbed up a pile of rocks some of which were invisible, and then I managed to get over the rock wall and outside the level I think.
I really liked the game. It's impossible pretty and the game mechanic is really cool.
Haha! Okay so the fish controls are kinda hard but I did get the hang of it eventually! It's a shame it didn't work out - I really like the atmosphere and the graphics. Maybe add a bit more today and submit to the jam?
Hey! Your web link just goes to your Twitter. Is there a direct link available?
Wow, this is a nice piece! The gameplay's quite different to most Ludum Dare stuff, and the graphics are fab. Good work!
Fantastic! I love this kind of game. Enjoyed finding the secrets too - can't believe you did this all in two days.
Really hard! I got killed almost instantly. But lovely graphics :)
Nice idea! Making the ship a bit speedier/manoeuvrable would be great, but the basic idea is a lot of fun and you did a hell of a lot in just a few days. Well done!
Nice game! A little hard but I liked the premise. I think the away team mechanics needs work - there's no real reason not to send them down since there's not much indication of what's safe and what isn't. The binary decisions - Meet Them/Ignore - were more interesting because I had to judge whether a situation was safe.
Really cool nonetheless. Very different kind of LD game.
Eventually got stuck. Thought it was a pretty polished game - good ideas, solid mechanic, good level design mostly. I thought sometimes the story was a bit inconsistent, and punching the girl wasn't very nice to encounter - perhaps there was another way to make your point, like arguing with her? Good stuff though!
Nice! The mac version works perfectly, btw. I was a bit unsure of what to do at first but the controls you've got are really nice, lovely effects too.
Really lovely. Gorgeous presentation, nice simple mechanic.
Really great concept. I like the ideas behind this a lot.
Nice idea! A little tricky with the controls (I was playing on a trackpad though) but I didn't rate it down for that - a really good little game.
Really great, and I love the fact that you bounce around like a pinball as the ship ineptly crashes into stuff. Great idea.
Fantastic entry. Loved the idea, the mechanics balance each other nicely, even level generation. Super stuff!
Quite a cute idea! I enjoyed playing around with it, the teleporting was a fun twist as well. I wish people made more golf games :)
Nice concept. I found it a little tricky to control - I wanted to keep control of the larger world after connecting two together. But I still think the idea is great and the art style is very lovely.
Really nice art! The water level trick was neat, this would make a fun game if you expanded it I think!
A really astonishingly complete thing. The script and voices were adorable, the mechanics were really clever and opened up quite a bit. One of the best LD entries I've ever seen, I think.
I could only play it out singleplayer, but I like the concept a lot. The art is really nice, and making a local co-op game for LD is a really cool idea, well done!
So good - it's such a complete thing, I liked the difficulty too, has that really good PICO-8 vibe. I was not expecting the boss, but I loved it, and the ending screen was so sweet. Such a lot of charm crammed into a tiny package. ^_^
So good! The slapstick comedy of the boxes piling up is hilarious, and I love the design of the space and attention to detail. Really impressive entry!
This looks/sounds super cool, but I can't run it! I think you need to distribute extra files in your download.
Ah this is pretty neat! I like the idea, it has the simplicity and humour of a WarioWare kind of game, almost? I feel like this would be great on mobile or something. Very complete too, nice job!
Short, sweet and fun! I love the art and general style so much. Lovely work! :)
Thank you all for playing and for the nice comments!
@retrospecter - That's very kind! The difficult varies a lot based on the randomness of the drops. I think if I were to rework it, that'd be the first thing I tried to rebalance.
@kevinworkman - Thanks you! I also felt the same thing actually while testing, sometimes I'd just keep playing the game out. Always a good sign :)
@maximiliancroissant - Maxi! Thank you for all these kind words. I wanted there to be a tension between kicking and not kicking - do you need to do it to survive? Or should you save them? I didn't really have time to make it a proper strategic decision though so you can kind of play it any way you feel is right. Thanks for checking it out :)
@yizhao-jin Thanks for playing! Sorry it was a bit too tough, it's always hard to balance during a game jam!
I love the setting you establish here, and the little asides of preparing tea, selecting brews, and seeing dreams. There's so much potential here! Incredibly polished presentation, too, every screen is really beautiful.
Such a good game. The writing and systems just go together perfectly. I love this entry a lot, it's smart and satisfying and innovative. I'd love to see this expanded into a fuller post-jam experience!
Aww, lovely. Great animation and sprite work! Well done for making something so polished. You can always add levels for the post-jam :)
