Ten Second Sketch Racer by mollymus 2013-08-27T01:50:00
Visual style and music were excellent! I'm really quite impressed by it.

Visual style and music were excellent! I'm really quite impressed by it.
I loved the concept. I thought about using that alternate version of "second" as well. Also made me laugh quite a bit, well done.
I really liked the design of the main character, but other artwork was hit or miss. Had some difficulty managing the controls (felt jump was a bit weird, but that may have just been the lack of animation for it?) but maybe it's just me!
Really love the visual style. The controls felt great and responsive (especially jumping, which I appreciate!)
Some of the art was nice (especially the player character) but I found the buttons a bit unresponsive and so it was difficult to get anywhere!
Trying to access the site tells me it odes not exist!
Love the visual style and humor! Also love the take on the theme, very unique. Impressed that you even added voice overs!
I really liked the visual design! The music was simple but nice. Jumping did not feel as responsive as I normally like, though.
I liked the music a lot! It was catchy. I also really liked the concept, interesting to have a speed puzzler.
Amazing visual style you have! Even though the take on the theme was nothing extraordinary, the destroying mechanic itself was simple but addictive.
I like the visual style, it felt very clean. Only issue I had was I didn't feel the timer added anything to the gameplay!
nSun - There is a solution, but it requires some exploration and experimentation! I had worried that it might be difficult to find, but my testers did not seem to run into an issue. I actually have AGS, but I am not too familiar with it. Didn't want to spend most of the weekend trying to learn the ins and outs of a new program.
mtrc - Thanks! Not sure what you mean about a paperclip, as there isn't one. You might mean the brush, which has a special trigger that requires exploration. But I understand that with so many games, people aren't going to have the patience to play the game multiple times! Thanks for playing, though!
Easily my favorite game that I've played in the Jam so far! I love the graphics, the take on the theme, and the puzzles. Only issue was that it would have been really nice to have some sort of instruction. Went through some frustration before I realized what it was I was supposed to do.
This is a game I'm going to keep going back to, I love it. Though I may have to do so with the sound turned down, the noises made me a bit ill.
Even though the visual style is simple, I rather liked it! The music helped set a good tone. Even though the whole cursed by Time Witch thing is a silly contrivance for the mechanic, I actually really liked it. Only big issue is somethings the character wouldn't move at all, requiring me to jump before anything would happen. It made completing some rooms difficult.
Fire seemed to move a bit more slowly than one might expect!
Great visual style and humor! Interesting take on the theme. A bit too much clicking though.
Great game! Lots of fun to play, and I love the light ball mechanic.
Very interesting concept, and I love the way the game looks. Being a lone cell against encroaching disease did not make me feel like I had a hope of winning, however.
I had quite a lot of fun with this one! Definitely saving it to play later. I actually want to survive to the end this time.
Oh no, this game told me I suck! :<
Nice Zelda-like with appropriately retro graphics that I quite enjoyed!
Great take on the theme! I really enjoy this. Nice music too.
Ha, didn't expect to find a clicker game! I love the horror aesthetic of it and the unique take on the theme.
Gorgeous backgrounds and animation! Would be nice to have the controls listed in game.
Lovely graphics! Laughed when FF music came up during the car scene (even though my laughing may have been inappropriate!?). I had the same bug as SerialVelocity, however. I believe I had taken the 5th avenue road?
I had to click on this since the cover image reminded me of the 90s! The only issue I had was that moving uphill was somewhat painfully slow.
Ha, actually jumped a bit when that thing suddenly showed up!
Gorgeous game! I love in game languages, so I thought this was really fun. Could have used an editor though!
I thought the concept was really interesting. I enjoyed how the level built itself and then showed it to you at the end. I didn't feel a sense of progression, however, which could really be improved. I would like to see this idea fleshed out more!
The fact that a zombie can kick a rock until it's dead makes this a winner in my book.
Really cute game! I love the concept.
Fantastic graphics. You have a great style! Jumping was a bit awkward and movement slow, but it was enjoyable.
Was a little confused about what to do at first, could have used a bit more direction!
From what I could see of the graphics, I liked the style, wish I could have seen more of them! I liked the concept too. It was too difficult to control, though. Oh well, going mad is a fitting fate.
I loved the art style you have here, and I thought the dirty sock mechanic was an interesting way to create a potential fail state without making it an instant fail state.
I died! Hooray!
I demand online co-op!
I really enjoyed the extra bits of writing you could look at that gave the text extra flavor.
Great atmosphere!
I knew someone would make a pun on Juan!
The concept is funny, but only being able to select a duck and then watch what happens didn't feel engaging.
I'm going on an adventure into white space! Tell my mom I love her if I don't return.
I wanted to enjoy this game, but the first word I got was "buss"! Apparently this is an archaic word. Which, while fascinating! is a bit frustrating in this kind of game.
Gorgeous game! Though I'll admit what I really wanted to do was just explore the island.
Loved the style of the game! Great job.
Apparently I'd be a terrible waiter!
Good to see you get your kids involved! Future game designers? The sounds were adorable.
Perhaps in the future I will include a darker bar on the bottom when moused over to indicate you can go back.
Thank you for the comments everyone!
One ending is called "Betrayal", the other is "Betrayed"! (I just checked the code so I know I didn't accidentally make an error). And thanks, I put that in there as a placeholder to fix a bug that occurred when speciestype is not defined, and forgot to change it!
Really? It shouldn't be like that! I'll have to fix that. Thanks for letting me know!
Fixed the issue and uploaded a new version!
Turns out there was another error causing people to get the final ending too easily. But I fixed THAT one now. I guess this is my fault for not knowing the quirks of Ren'Py and not being about to thoroughly test the final product before submission!
Ugh, thank you so much for figuring that out! I wish I hadn't done variable punctuation in that manner, but I hadn't used Ren'Py before and didn't have time to figure out if there was a better way to handle capitalization (like for example in Ruby). At least I'm getting this stuff figured out for the when I release the polished version next year. You're all beta testers now!
Thanks for the feedback! A lot of those things I will be changing in a later version, though it would be too many changes to make on the jam release. I didn't spend any time changing the default Ren'Py UI, which is why it is so frustrating for many, I think. It wasn't built for this sort of game in mind.
But I wanted to choose the crazy girl!
Cute graphics, jump felt a little weird though!
Visuals look quite polished and I love the teleportation mechanic. Game was a little difficult for me though, and I'm usually good at this sort of thing!
Great game! The artwork is especially nice. I'd love to see this expanded on.
Remind me not to jump again.
I enjoyed this! I thought the floating mechanic was quite unique (though that old man must sure be strong to generate that kind of lift). I do recommend rewriting it as "Tap Space" rather than "Press Space". "Press Space" makes me think you only need to do it once.
In my defense, I stabbed him because I was in a video game.
Rather terrifying, to be honest. That can be good, of course! Wasn't quite sure of your intention, though. I liked the take on the theme and thought it was unique, unfortunately not very fun to play.
Interesting but simple concept! I bet that fork is disgusting, though.
I liked this use of the theme! Controls felt a bit stiff.
Great art style and atmosphere! Though I think I enjoyed floating around as a ghost more than anything else.
Yikes! That was a scary experience.
This was a hard read, but good. I enjoyed the subtle use of music.
Great concept. I thought the walking animation could have been a little speedier though.
Great style. It's a good thing these processes are automatic as I'd probably be dead by now.
I think I wouldn't last very long in this job!
I enjoyed the screaming of the civilians. Er, I mean the sound made me laugh! Wait... Anyway, a lot of them died.
Lovely exploration game! (My favorite kind of game). The music felt a bit at odds with the rest of the game though. It was a bit too hectic when I think something more atmospheric would have worked better.
This was certainly an experience.
Nice story! Bit of a silly twist end but it was enjoyable. The flow of the game was a tad confusing and at all times I felt like I was just choosing at random until things happened. I didn't feel much like I had a reason for making choices. Still, overall I enjoyed myself quite a bit!
Good to see other visual novels entered in the jam. I made one as well!
Best graphics ever! Ball is impressively bouncy.
Glad to finally run across more adventure games. I really loved the look of this game. My only complaint is movement tends to be a bit difficult with pointing in 3D adventures, WASD would have been better, I think!
At first I didn't know what I was doing and didn't get very far. So many sheep!
Gorgeous game! Best looking one I've seen, I think. Gameplay was interesting, but ultimately a little frustrating.
Cute little game! Wish there were more levels.
Apparently having floating ships isn't all that useful in the end!
I always appreciate voiced sound effects!
Wow, I'm TOTALLY in love with the visual style. It builds up such an amazing mood, and the short length works great.
I quite like the idea for this game, and I enjoyed the low poly style. Only problem was that looking around with the mouse was too heavy. I'm guess this is supposed to be simulating low gravity perhaps? But it didn't feel like it worked well.
I particularly loved the graphics and music, I thought they were quite cute. A little too difficult for me though, sadly!
This concept is really neat! Such a unique take on the theme.
I really loved the mood that was built up and the ending was great. Wish it had been longer. Experienced quite a bit of freezing.
I quite liked this game! The gameplay was quite unique, it controlled well and was just fun to play. The visual style was also cute!
Loved the visuals. I thought the voice overs were a nice touch.
I quite liked the munching noises! Oh, and I'm not sure a link to the itch.io page for downloading the Windows version counts as a "web" version. I was quite confused at first!
Hello! When I downloaded the game it said that there was nothing in the archive.
Great visual style! The concept was interesting too.
Quite creepy! I loved the mood.
Cute style! Though it felt a little strange to have this type of game without free movement.
Super adorable game! I loved all their little expressions/animations.
Absolutely adored the main character and her facial expressions! Her voice was cute too.
Interesting take on the theme! Also, very relaxing.
Lovely style and exploration!
What a unique idea! Well done.
Haha, what a bizarre concept! I enjoyed it just for that.
I would love to see this concept expanded on! Controls felt a bit floaty, though. 3D platforming is hard!
Cute looking game! Pretty difficult though.
This felt pretty polished!
Cute game! The music was catchy. Would have been nice to increase the pixel size a bit, it's so small!
Pretty creepy! Especially the wall posters.
I liked the atmosphere of the two worlds, though ultimately switching between them like that just felt a little frustrating!
Loved the low poly style!
Super cute game! It felt really polished.
Pretty fun game, actually! Loved the visual style.
I love this concept, it's adorable! Game seemed a tad difficult to me, though.
Vinhuman - Yes, that was something I noticed and had planned to look into but it got lost in the shuffle of a million other things I had to attend to. Perhaps I'll look into it in a few days when I try to make my updated non-LD build!
HellBlazer - Yeah, I had planned on having dialogue choices and that would determine what items you get for the endings, unfortunately I ended up having to cut that as I lacked time!
AdventureIslands - I've heard about this bug, but haven't been able to reproduce it myself! That and people ending up with a blank ending. Not sure what's up with it, I'll have to continue looking into it.
LaFleur - Thank you! I absolutely ADORE Kentucky Route Zero. That's the best praise I've gotten this whole jam.
Sweet story. Glad to see someone else using Ren'Py!
Pretty much perfect, except for the length. But since you polished this bit up so nicely, I'll forgive.
I just wanted to say that I'm suffering from depression too, and sometimes it's really difficult. It nearly kept me from finishing my game, but somehow I made it through anyway. I'm hoping life will be like that, even when it gets hard that I'll make it through in the end. I hope that for you, too.
That was pretty fun! Could be a cute puzzle game with more polish.
Gorgeous visual style! Oddly enough it made me feel like I wanted to know more about the world.
Definitely... unique!
First dating game I've been creeped out by!
Interesting concept, though shooting could have been better executed!
Well that turned grim. I think I preferred making a potato salad!
The Katamari Damacy of noodle games.
Beautiful art style! Some weirdness in character layering which made it difficult to see where the enemy was in relation to me.
I... don't even know what to say. Bravo.
Took me awhile to figure out what was going on at first! Many dodos were slaughtered.
Beautiful graphics, I love how the music really builds an atmosphere!
I loved the look of this game, but it was so difficult to play!
I really liked the idea of combining colors! I found it a little frustrating to control, though.
I always enjoying seeing overtly feminine things in action games. Music was catchy too!
The drawings for each of the worlds were cute!
I'd love to see this concept expanded on!
The train was really difficult to control! Audio was fairly pleasant, though.
Really stylish artwork and music!
I really loved this one! My favorite that I've played so far. Didn't expect someone could make me enjoy what's essentially a clicker.
Ha! This was a great use of the theme.
"The Entire Game is on Your One Computer Screen." I played it in the middle of my dual monitor set up. What now!?
Bravo on actually singing a song for it.
That background noise sure made it feel intense!
I actually teared up a bit at the end! And I didn't really have anything to confess. (I tried thinking of something personal I could write, but there was nothing, alas.)
That was pretty neat! The music sure made it intense.
Loved the style of this game! It felt really polished.
This is undoubtedly a pixel platformer. Little hard to see the character though! Made it a bit too difficult for me.
I really liked this concept but I think I probably spent entirely too long searching for the character! Came back here to find your map.
This was pretty unique! I've never seen anything like it. Super confusing though.
It's an interesting concept although I found it a little annoying to play! Maybe that was the point?
I really enjoyed the mood of this one. Felt very gloomy and depressing!
It was a little hard to get a feel for the action, difficult to tell if attacks were connecting. Loved the fractals though!
Wow! This was pretty great. I love how you've used the theme here. I really want to see something more complex use this same concept.
Rather difficult to control and I was confused about what was going on!
Interesting! I never considered making games in PDF before.
I love it! My weapon http://i1.minus.com/iQBuePkBKwbid.png
Create atmosphere and visual style! I love it! The controls were just impossible for me though. I really wanted to see more of it.
Well now I just feel bad for that robot. It's so cruel to make him do such work!
I really liked some of the visual ideas you had here, though they're a little rough around the edges!
Actually pretty cute! Didn't realize at first that I could grow trees, though.
I really enjoyed the mood here! Suitably creepy.
Unfortunately, no one was into me! No monster love.
I enjoyed the mystery solving, not so much the fighting! That took me by surprise.
DrPrettyPatty - I had planned on doing this whole death/revival scene but it slipped my mind in my rush to finish! Thank you for reminding me.
avultima - Thank you, I had thought I'd fixed the problem with the flying ones, but apparently I was mistaken! I'll have to take a look at it again later.
Oddly enough, this is the first one I've seen about cars! Good job on the art.
Love the visual style and atmosphere you have going on here!
This was not okay! Now I'm sad. :<
I loved the visual style. I never managed to scare anyone though, despite my best efforts! I guess I don't have it in me.
