A game is a game. ;)
Nice! My crew members are all going insane, but it's cute. :D
Wow, this is incrabbable! Amazing work!
Nice, that's a cool kinda retro. :) Just a heads up, one time I got stuck after crashing the chopper into a wall. I was respawned inside the "stairs" and could then only move within the walls, basically caught on the wrong side of the barrier.
The collision acted a bit strange here and there, but overall, not bad. :)
Aw. :)
Really nice, love it! The soundtrack is fantastic, too.
Woohoo, I got FOUR! Only took a million tries! Btw, for a game this mean, a couple of different, randomly played failure messages would be cool. You just hear them so much. :D
I have died by stupidness, and deservedly so. :D
Well, that was weirdly addictive... Made my first 1,3 million in just under 10 years :D
That would be good, I too had a bit of trouble figuring out how it works, and I don't wanna vote without actually having played. :)
Yeah, I jumped a bit when the dark blob came threw that door. :D Looks pretty so far. Too bad you can't really do much, but it sounds like you're happy with how far you got. :)
LOL "Romeo is the bomb." That killed me. xD Just brilliant.
Very Slender and very terrifying. :D Didn't have too much of an issue with the controls, something about them was a bit odd, but it didn't bother me too much.
Whoa. :O Dude, that is amazing!
I must admit that I still kinda like this. I guess that's charming graphics for ya. :)
Same here. :/
Pretty damn cool, love it! And re: the theme, it's her, right? She's the one, alone and on her own, the only person around (for the most part)
I don't get the complaint about the difficult, I thought it was fine, made it through with 3-5 tries each. :) At least until I got stuch after the 4. or 5. level, there it just went back to where I left off in the same level. I checked the levels in the menu at the beginning, and the two following were actually the same, but there seemed to be more after that. Anyway, the retro flair is wonderful, and it's pretty fun. Would love to see of this!
Jeez, I just lost miserably against myself. As in, the guy I had shoot just anywhere either got me all the time, or the well-aimed one backfired and hit himself. :D Cool stuff!
A bit more audiovisual feedback would be nice, but I suppose that's due to the time constraints. :) Worked fine for me in FF 26 btw.
Damn, that was fun! :D With the second guy I stepped on a mine and had to basically go the whole level on the last life. Thankfully the enemies rather run into walls than find a way around corners, that saved me. :D
Big thumbs up for the pun. :D
GTFO :O That looks AMAZING! I mean, the level design is a bit too linear for my taste, but still... Wow.
Nicely done!
That might've been the wrong code, but the one I thought was the right one had a zero in it. How do I zero? :D
Wow, that looks amazing. Found 3 endings so far, will have to keep an eye out for the rest. :)
Now that was a cool idea, love it! :)
I feel like I should've seen it coming when I had that dynamite for breakfast... Oh well.
Nice! That controls pretty well, and I like how the bird's heart is broken if you mess up. :D Idealized you a bit there, huh? ;)
What I personally find confusing about the jumping, is that there's no indication how high it goes until you start falling again. What I mean is, usually there's a bit of a curve, you get slower while you jump up and pick up speed when falling down. That would make it a lot easier to work with, as you'd have a clear indication at which point in the jump he is, and when you see, ok he's getting slower already, you can tell whether he'll make it to where you wanna go.
I read that as "an aging programmer" first. :D But this is really fun, love it! As cbear_wallis said, the music is a bit repetitive and the graphics could use some work, but you really have something there!
Wonderful! That is so Game Boy. :D Love it hard!
Funny idea. :)
NICE! Extremely cool idea!
Sweet! Just earlier I was thinking how there aren't enough ninja games. :D
Nah, it's all written from scratch. Can't deny being inspired by it though. ;)
@Shigor: No, you only get to play once. Unless you figure out how it saves and how to delete it at least. :) But it's part of the point that you don't get another chance. It happened and now you gotta live with it, so to say.
@Kayelgee: The point of that is that you have no control over a situation like this. You don't end up there because of what you did, it happens because you have been targeted by a predator and he makes it happen, no matter what. There are no right choices and no wrong choices, because it's not your fault. That's the point, it's not your fault.
The later choices that literally don't work are about wanting to do something and not being able to. If you want to know more about why I did this and why I chose to present it this way, you can read about it here:
http://hypnoticowl.com/the-day-the-laughter-stopped/
@Rest of y'all: Thank you so much. I can't put into words how much your feedback means to me. It's been a very weird, overwhelming coupla days, so yeah, "thanks" is all the eloquence I can muster. :D
I still don't know what to say... Thank you all! :)
@mmickyman: If you're still around, can you tell me more about the slow scrolling? It's not supposed to take more than half a second or so, just a smooth slide down. Did it take longer than that? What device/browser were you using? And did you play the web version?
Ok, thank you, I'll look into it. Probably messed something up determining the speed. ;)
Huh, weird, Chrome and Firefox handle the scrolling differently. My attempt to fix the weird jumps it sometimes does only worked for FF and kinda broke Chrome. That certainly wasn't supposed to look like that. ;)
Ok, it's fixed. I detected the scroll position by using $("html, body"), which returns the right value in FF but returned 0 in Chrome (and yet, it worked for animating the scroll position.) That set you back to the top of the page and had you scroll through the entire document in an adapting pixel/sec speed. Sorry about that, didn't even think to test everywhere since it's so basic. But $(document) did the trick, and except for some weird but manageable glitches in Opera, it works fine in all major browsers now.
Thanks for letting me know!
Well, point nicely made! Though I'd say that there can never be enough games about ninjas. :D
I don't know why I chose lose. I guess there's something wrong with me. :D
Not bad! Would be cool to see which cards you have collected, I got a bit confused wether I had just picked up a yellow or an orange one, I was too focused on not being detected. ;)
Ooh, pretty! Was a bit confused about the controls at first, especially after I spawned directly next to an enemy and was killed immediately, but then it's pretty fun. :D
Really nice! Could see pretty well without the light though. :)
Interesting, even the trees are on Twitter. :D
The font is a bit hard to read, but that's a pretty interesting idea. :) Also interesting how we both used the theme the same way. :D
Wow, that looked and handled really nice. :)
Very interesting way to up the difficulty. :)
Looks great! Was a little confused at first though, I tried to control him and when pressing right, he stopped and didn't move again.
Now that's a lotta monsters... Interesting idea! :)
Oh noes, stuck with two cards! But the sounds made me giggle quite a bit. :D
Nice! Doesn't waste any time getting challenging either. :D Love it!
NOOOO, not on Christmas!
Hooray for text adventures!
Awesome, love it!
Daaaaaaaaaaaamn, that is awesome. O_O
Awesome. :D
Awesome. Just awesome.
Wow, that was great! I think I played that for an hour just now, and I'll probably do it again. :D
Oooh, that's pretty. And puzzly! Love it! :D
Oh no, not the Loudham Dire! xD Restart worked for me btw.
Wow, that is beautiful!
Yesssssssss! http://imgur.com/xrylD01
Oh yeah, 149924 points! I have no idea if that's good or bad! :D
Hitting all the right noiry notes. My only complaint is that it's too short, I WANT MOAR!! :D Nice work!
Oops. That was supposed to say "Argh, forgot the case when you bang the flashlight against the lid first." Anyway, thanks, NOW it's fixed (I hope.)
And I guess it getting easier to figure out how to escape means you learned what to do and are now well-prepared for when they accidentally bury you alive! You're welcome. :D Oh, and calming down has a small effect even when you didn't panic first, it slows the timer to 90%, but not more. ;)
Nice, love it!
Just say the levels are underground, that's all the justification you need. ;D
The jumping feels great! Had a little problem though, the nurse talks about bullets and doesn't actually heal me.
Man, that soundtrack is fantastic. Could be a bit louder though, or the jump sounds quieter. But nice work!
Damn, that's tough. :D
Aw yeah, BOXES!
Gorgeous.
You had me at Sword & Shovelry.
Wow, that was annoyingly good. Love the mechanics (the window jumping in particular), music, writing... Amazing how polished this is. Respect!
Damn, that was great. One hell of a tough boss, though ;)
I have just one word for you: LOL :D
Oh no, already over! Would also have liked to keep playing a little longer, but that was fun :)
Same fore me, very Vlambeer feel to it. And I didn't mind the camera shakes. Very energetic gameplay, I liked it!
Wow, the visuals are amazing! And quite funny too, great entry :)
My best was just over 60s. Pretty cool stuff!
I agree with @pjchardtthesecond, being able to see the screens while pressing the buttons would definitely be a big help in figuring them out. Otherwise, interesting idea!
As others have said, the visuals are impressive and I like the investigative gameplay, though it's currently a bit too unforgiving and too hard to figure out what keywords work. If you found a way to make that easier, so that the player doesn't have to "fight" the parser and can focus more on the investigation itself, that could be really cool.
That said, I'm honestly really uncomfortable with the story. I'm not sure if this is different when you play other endings, but the one I found had some pretty ugly implications. Not intentionally, I'm sure, but it still leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth.
Huh, that was a lot more complex than I expected. As others mentioned, timing it just right is quite the challenge, so kudos for that! One issue though, anytime a sound is played, it seems to stop all the others, so I only just noticed there's music after I stopped clicking anything.
Very nice!
The title is hilarious :D And the game itself is pretty good, I only wished for more to do toward the end. Of course, the options are somewhat limited for a peace bomb, but maybe the ability to deflect some of the bullets through the power of love or something?
Love it!
The controls felt a bit cumbersome to me and sadly I didn't manage to make it very far either. The unforgiving precision required and the platforms not carrying you made it really frustrating, which is too bad, because I'm kinda curious about the ending and would've loved to see it. Maybe I'll give it another shot later, but yeah, it has some ragequit potential ;)
Not sure if I missed something obvious, but it seemed like there was only one way to finish it, by going after the key straight away before the minions pile up. Once they start, it looked like it was actually impossible to advance, since they keep piling on and you're just busy taking them out with no time or room for going after the key left. Still, it was an interesting twist on the old Mario Bros Classic, so it was fun, though sadly a bit short.
Agree on the aiming thing, it was sometimes a little hard to catch planets and eat the pieces, especially when you're close to them but looking in the wrong direction. Then again, that might just be part of the challenge, so it didn't bother me too much. All in all, pretty cool!
Yeah, that was great, tremendous fun and bigly cool idea :D
@hgcummings Yes, your strength affects your speed, that's why the patrol catches up with you if you don't stay strong. I tried reflecting that in the speed of the walking animation at first, but it kept glitching out when you replenished your strength, so sadly, it had to go ;)
@coauctor The difference is in the amount of strength it replenishes. Eating gives you back a little more than drinking.
Lovely idea, looks great and lots of fun to play. Cool stuff!
Great combination and idea! I got a bit lost toward the end on what to do, perhaps marking tasks as completed would help with what's left to do? Also something about the movement feels slightly off, but otherwise, great entry!
Very nice! I find it weirdly difficult to brace myself and wait to execute the jump with the final letter, but it's fun :D
Very cool, one of the better typing games I've seen this jam!
Dance battles between the leaders, that's how wars should be fought :D
Really cool, good looking game. Suffice it to say, I did not manage to beat in 3 minutes ;)
I couldn't quite figure out the right recipe, but it's a cool idea! Only suggestion I would have is to change the car model to a harvesting machine, that I think would tie the whole thing together a bit more than a sports car does.
Lol that's an awesome idea :D Love it, only suggestion would be to put a little delay between completing the fishing part and the race, it's quick a sudden transition where I was still focused on hitting the right spot and suddenly it's racing along. Otherwise, really really cool, please develop this further!
Your game doesn't seem to be on your itch page. Did you remove/forget to make public?
This is actually a really nice idea! I was a little bit confused about what the die does at first and the chess system seems to have a couple of small quirks, but I really like this! I hope you'll find time to play and rate other games, so you can get a few more eyes on this!
Same here, controllers would be great, as it's a little hard to aim like this and actually hit the ball. Still, it is a pretty cool idea, well done!
Wow, that is actually a great combination. Fascinating how a change from real-time to planning ahead makes such a massive difference, I love it! Might be my favorite approach to the theme so far.
Gorgeous as always. I'm gonna play it again a few more times to see all the endings, but so far I really love it. Your style's perfect for dreamscapes. The other games of yours I've played all had that dreamy quality, so this seems like just the logical next step. Very well done. Very you, also.
In terms of complaints, I only have two minor ones, namely that while the character can't read the notes on the fridge, they're plainly visible to me, which is kind of odd and might benefit from a blur or something to align what we see with what the character sees, and while the first room had a bunch of interactions, they seemed to get less as the game progressed. I did get to the end fairly quickly though, because I got the location I needed to go to from the note. Still, the train felt a little empty compared to the previous room, so maybe it was just missing one or two more things to look at.
But anyway, great work, I really enjoyed this.
It looks great and I like the idea, but yeah, bodily functions a bit too frequent and I was confused by the movement, because it feels like it's turn-based but then it's not. I actually think I might've enjoyed turn-based more, this seems like a game that would go really well with.
There's something really nice about this. Maybe it's the style, but it made want to try and figure it out even when I had problems running it :) (There's an issue when you quit the game, the window closes but the process is still active, blocking the server and crashing any new instance of the game you start. Played on Windows 7)
@bobismijnnaam That's actually something I started building but had to take out due to time, but I definitely wanna explore noise as another mechanic, rolling past quietly in the shadow (another thing which I didn't quite get around to building, hiding in the shadows while sunset-lit areas will make you more discoverable)
Anyway, thanks everyone!
@mrspeaker Oh, thanks for the heads up! And the goal is to make it to the end of the road, where there is a sort of checkpoint, but you're right, it's not very clear. Will add to the description, thanks!
@lost-dutchman-software I actually scared myself a little when I implemented it :D
Wow, that freaked me out some. Very nicely done!
Wow. That is amazing. Such a good idea, trippy visuals and nice music, I'm beyond jealous.
Cool idea, but could use with some balancing. I positioned a bunch of towers around the start and haven't seen an enemy in minutes ;)
It's a great idea and well executed. My only complaint is that the turning is extremely confusing, I get completely lost as to where I am and what part I'm looking at. But I see that's down to time, so still, well done!
This is really, really nice. Love the style and puzzles. It is hard at times, but the kind that makes me wanna keep trying, so pretty much exactly right.
Lol I love that he likes his outfit :D Great idea, it's quite fun!
That's really good! Great sounds and visuals, but also a really innovative concept! Nice work, hope you'll find time to play and rate other's games, so more people will see yours!
Good game, here's mine: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/stealth-trucking
Yeah no, I did enjoy this a lot, the art kind of reminds me of Super Mario Land 2 and it's surprisingly challenging. Tiniest bit frustrating at times, but good enough that I wanted to come back and try again until I made it :D
I agree with previous comments though, it did take me a moment to figure out the controls as well, so perhaps a small indicator the first time you do use a coin would be helpful, I tried pressing A for a while and also didn't realize the level had become unbeatable when I messed up. But otherwise, this is wonderfully polished and fun, like it a lot.
Yup, same issue. What did you make your game with?
That's strange, can't imagine what Google might find fishy about your build then. But as @Autumnotopia suggested, try uploading to itch.io
Yes, it works. Well then, congrats on your first LD!
In terms of feedback, it is as you say quite basic, but what mostly made it a bit confusing to me was for one, that the compass didn't have a clear indicator which end is the pointer, and secondly, the camera. I don't know if I missed anything there, but not being able to turn it was a bit of a hindrance, especially since the object was always to the direction I couldn't look in, so I would come up against mountain walls that the camera then went behind, making the terrain I wanted to climb invisible. The ball rotating on collision with the terrain also messed with the controls quite a bit. Oh, and having the time count down instead of up might make the time limit clearer.
But these are simple fixes. Still, well done on finishing your first jam!
Congrats on your first jam! I found it a little bit hard to tell where the lanes are, the way the characters are positioned confused me a bit about when they might hit me and when I was safe. Perhaps using slightly different greens for every other lane would help with that? Otherwise, well done!
Damn, this is a really good entry. I had to read the comments to understand the E was an instruction, not just scorched ground, but that was really fun and great puzzles. Love it!
Quite rough around the edges, but still a fun game. Motivated me to keep going till the end. Nicely done!
