A nice entry in the well known stealth-truck genre ;-)

I loved the mood, but the game itself was very hard.

bobismijnnaam 2018-04-24 16:45

Nice entry! The ambient works very well, I really felt the need to be stealthy. I agree with the guy above me though, it is pretty unforgiving. It seemed almost impossible to get this right on your first playthrough. However if you know whats going to happen it's fun to figure out how to drive around it.

Maybe a nice addition would've been turning off the engine as well (making enemies aware of sound). Another idea would be maybe night vision that you could only use for a few second, i.e. needs time to recharge, or would blind you when headlights came into sight. I managed to play most of the game without the headlights as well, maybe something cna be done with that as well.

The steering mechanics were very solid and the music fit the game as well!

beelzeboss 2018-04-24 16:59

Great concept. The driving feels good and the lack of engine power really keeps the tension. Awesome game.

crabman 2018-04-24 17:05

@bobismijnnaam That's actually something I started building but had to take out due to time, but I definitely wanna explore noise as another mechanic, rolling past quietly in the shadow (another thing which I didn't quite get around to building, hiding in the shadows while sunset-lit areas will make you more discoverable)

Anyway, thanks everyone!

wert 2018-04-24 17:06

The mood was pretty neat. After I found out how these things work I got into a awesome chase sceen with a driver that detected me. While the music was playing I drove I drove through the night

mrspeaker 2018-04-24 17:08

I don't know what I was doing, but I had fun doing it! I'm not 100% sure of the goal... but I loved the mood, and it was suspenseful - I just wish there was a clear objective (like, some kind of checkpoint system - maybe there was, but I didn't make it - if I knew there was a checkpoint then I'd keep going).

I feel like there is something really cool in the core of this though - and it's worth exploring more. And theme, graphics, audio, and mood were all 5 stars!

(also - by the way, there is an extra unicode character in your web link so it 404s)

crabman 2018-04-24 17:53

@mrspeaker Oh, thanks for the heads up! And the goal is to make it to the end of the road, where there is a sort of checkpoint, but you're right, it's not very clear. Will add to the description, thanks!

strato 2018-04-24 22:32

Very suspenseful and atmospheric, more so than I would ever expect from a truck game. The music was excellent and really ramped up further in. The art wasn't amazing but didn't detract from the mood, nor did it really add anything to the experience. The concept is unique and the two genres complemented each other well. The lack of objective didn't bother me as I don't think it really needed one - you're on a straight road with one direction to go in, forward.

mobiusdisco 2018-04-24 22:36

My account is newer and won't let me vote despite being on a team, but I had a lot of fun playing. would be funny to build up into a larger game!

gonz0 2018-04-24 23:34

Wow Love the atmosphere, it just sucks you in from the get go. Lovely music too, You sir are an inspiration!

gregwlyons 2018-04-25 00:20

A stealth truck game, what a great addition to the theme this time. I didn't have issues with the driving or turning headlights on/off, but it was difficult to stealth through. Nice job. Cheers!

caldwellysr 2018-04-25 00:25

This was fun to play. Really difficult though holy crap. I felt like the driving was tough to get a feeling for but I did have fun :D

ryan-koning 2018-04-25 00:29

Wow, never would have thought there could be so much tension in driving a truck down a canyon.

Great Job!

beebo-studios 2018-04-25 00:32

Wow, amazing atmosphere! First thought: "Stealth Trucking... That's so absurd you can even use the bare genre denomination as a title." Second thought: "This is actually not that far off from reality. What's in that truck? Weapons? Drugs? Refugees?" Great idea, it would even work in a triple A game! Have a fish <3 🐟

blazen 2018-04-25 00:35

Great idea, It is very random and a surprising amount of fun. The audio and graphics are sweet.

gexalmighty 2018-04-25 17:09

I think the idea is pretty good but the start is real slow, it feels like it takes a good 20 seconds of holding down w to get any speed going and when you do get to top speed you can kind of just hold w all the way to the end without getting caught. I think if you really want to capture the stealth aspect of the game you want to increase the acceleration by a lot so that you can zip between cover fast, and decrease the max speed so that you cant just gun it all the way through like i was

notpresident35 2018-04-25 21:42

Good job! I love the music, and the genres are a great idea! I do wish you had done more on the truck model and not made the player restart the entire game every time they lose (because they will lose a LOT).

Good job, and good luck!

articulated9 2018-04-26 23:29

Ha! this game is so silly. I love it! The music, the lighting, the tactical stealth trucking action...it's got everything I want in a Ludum Dare game.

Great stuff!

ja-viera 2018-04-26 23:31

A slow start, but very atmospheric and nice blend of genres. I found it was kind of difficult, but it was a fun mechanic. The art is okay not particularly special but the art direction was solid enough to create a mood.

mrgago 2018-04-26 23:32

Pretty good concept and good driving physics given the time you had! I wish though that you could accelerate and brake a little bit faster. But anyway, you've done a great job! GG

stefenism 2018-04-26 23:38

This game is amazing.

eudes-franco 2018-04-27 00:19

Great job with this, driving felt very nice, i really like the mood and the music. Great Entry. i could not figure out why would I leave the lights on tho. :D

arbosis 2018-04-27 01:44

What a great ridiculous idea. It fun and it works! I would have included the controls on the game itself, I didn't realize I could turn off the lights until my third attempt.

david-boeger 2018-04-27 08:25

What a great game! I absolutely love this concept and think it could make for a great twist on the stealth and survival genres. Having to be a trucker in a post-apocalyptic wasteland filled with bandits? Can anybody say Mad Max? Really well done.

amour-du-pain 2018-04-27 22:19

Haha that's the best idea ever. It first made me laugh, and before I realized the concept actually works perfectly. Well done !

gerardb 2018-04-28 00:21

Cool game! The ambientation was awesome. And btw, I also did a car game. Glad to not be the only one who had to deal with the freaking wheel colliders XD

jonathan-lorenz 2018-04-28 14:22

The two genres were working pretty well together. Good idea to use the light from the trucks as a cone of vision. The way the truck was moving gave the game a "heavy" gamefeel wich is fitting the trucks theme but a bit detrimental to the fun imho. Good work overall!

ghust1995 2018-04-28 21:00

Very interesting idea, I would love to see this developing further, or maybe just polishing the thing you already have. Congrats!

sheila-ayala-heady 2018-05-01 02:39

This is so fun! I would totally play some sort of ridiculous multiplayer 18 wheeler hide and go seek based on this.

angela-he 2018-05-01 20:04

Amazing and atmospheric audio as usual! I could listen to your music forever. I also loved the subtle humming and crunching sound effects of the car driving. I did think it could've been a bit easier, or at least have a faster way of getting past places you've passed before (maybe a speed up button?) One bug - I got inside the rock once because I leaned too close to it lmao. Overall I really loved it and would totally constantly play a multiplayer version!!! :D

lost-dutchman-software 2018-05-04 03:13

Its so stressful when you are spotted and the music changes :scream: I would like to see a version of this with some creepy trucker lore. Great job on the atmosphere!

crabman 2018-05-05 17:05

@lost-dutchman-software I actually scared myself a little when I implemented it :D

ian1337 2018-05-08 14:55

Love it, great idea and a great atmosphere Brilliant work :) Although the controls for the truck are a bit stiff I loved everything else :)

If you can give my game a look :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/sam

terryg 2018-05-12 18:08

Wow. Great idea and well executed. I liked the truck physics and how it wasn't all about mashing W. You really had to trick the truck following you to crash. I was able to make it to the end. Nicely done. Would be nice to have a HUD or something but it wasn't necessary for game play. I really didn't need to use my headlights. Having part of the game that required you to use the headlights but then using them would cause problems would have also been nice. Great entry. Nice music.
