LD42 — Running out of space

Prime Planets by bazld 2018-08-14T22:36:51Z

We both did educational games this time, yours is a lot more educational and more of a game.. dang! This is fun and I have some other nerd friends I need to show it to.

Battle Billiard Galactic Edition by Anudin 2018-08-14T22:13:26Z

This was a lot of fun. I played it 4 times and got a score of 64! Also the music was great, really pumps you up! Watching your gif again after playing, I now understand what I should have been doing with the space bar, I'll have to go play it again and see what me new score is!

Battle Billiard Galactic Edition by Anudin 2018-08-14T22:17:01Z

118, knowing what to do with the space bar helped :)

Battle Billiard Galactic Edition by Anudin 2018-08-14T22:41:31Z

I think i'll play this again later but for now this is my high score

Battle Billiard Galactic Edition by Anudin 2018-08-17T06:55:23Z

Came back for more and got to 209!

You Shoot Walls by Kodiqi 2018-08-15T18:36:40Z

Very fun game, I love you run out of space by shooting. Since only you are affected the cost is high, meaning that you need to take risks and let the enemy get really close before shooting. I got a high score of 15 but could easily see myself playing more if I had the time to. Thanks for making such a novel idea into a game!

Stop Climate Change! by ditzel 2018-08-13T16:39:50Z

This was a fun time, I had to play twice to win, and even then it felt like I got lucky a few times. I think this would be a super fun party game, please consider adding local multiplayer. (Bundle it with your RAD soccer game and I would definitely pay some $$ to play that with my pals)

Finish RAM by Diego Manarim 2018-08-15T19:05:08Z

I got 1350 points! I love when people make games out of mundane tasks! This was a real treat, thank you!

MondrianCraft by kromeboy 2018-08-13T16:28:02Z

I love puzzle games like this, and haven't ever played one quite like this before. Thanks for giving me another way to waste my super limited time :)

Honest Dan's Clutteral Damage by Honest Dan 2018-08-15T18:59:54Z

I really dig the easy and open relationship choices!

Recycling frenzy by Sharks 2018-08-13T17:10:51Z

I got pushed to the ceiling while trying to pick up a pink box then I ran out of space :) 10/10 would play again!

The legend of the looter and the incredible backpack that never runs out of spac by agar3s 2018-08-21T02:16:36Z

Its a great take on the theme and the graphics are fantastic!

No Vacancy by Arbosis 2018-08-14T21:12:01Z

This was great fun! I killed so many guests! I like that its very easy to understand what to do, what your objective is, and how to play.

Kazoete by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-08-14T21:21:28Z

@ditzel @sharks No matter how bad you did the game will tell you you did a good job :)

I wanted to be encouraging.

Kazoete by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-08-15T18:20:07Z

@trevor-hayes Thanks for the heads up on that bug! Also I'm thinking of really re-working the game and having it use keyboard input, show you the number in Japanese, and you have to enter it in Arabic numerals. I'll probably just do tha kanji for that at first since it is easier to code.

Kazoete by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-08-15T18:20:09Z

Whoops posted 3 times in a row....

Kazoete by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-08-15T18:20:11Z

I'm bad at interneting

Kazoete by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-08-16T20:42:24Z

@tero-pulkkinen If you play in kanji the first 3 are really easy, its 1 line for 1, 2 lines for 2 3 lines for 3, at four it gets weird because it turns into a box, 5 kind of looks like a 5 and a 3 mashed together, after that its rote memorization until 10 which looks like the roman numeral 10 tilted 90 degrees.

@raccoon-js Nice! I hope you played in Kanji so you didn't see my shame of not handling the exceptions in hiragana/romanji

@diego-manarim If you really want to learn Japanese I have some advice I can send your way as far as how to start.

Kazoete by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-08-16T22:00:31Z

@matt-tuttle Its Royalty free, no attribution music from Bad Snacks found on https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music?feature=blog

@divinenephron I think when I come back to this im going to start at random numbers only and treat it as a practice tool.

Kazoete by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-08-17T06:39:22Z

@simba I use yon for よん for the 10's and up, like よんじゅうし for 44, but I didn't use なな even though its the more fun way to read 7 :(

Kazoete by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-08-21T02:14:54Z

@agar3s your half way to being able to count to 100! after 10 they do 10-1 (juuichi/じゅういち/十一) then 10-2, ect. at 20 and higher its 2-10-1, 2-10-2 ect..

Crash·Data by Jkabuto 2018-08-14T22:05:51Z

This was a lot of fun, I thought I was doing really good but I got 45th place.. Also the music is tops!

Bandwidth:Zero by Trevor Hayes 2018-08-15T18:42:57Z

Love the art, and the enemy's are my router!

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Magneto De Liquidus by Ajayajayaj 2018-05-04T03:20:48Z

This can be a very fun puzzle mechanic. Thanks for making this RAD game :)

Stealth Racer by Predominant 2018-05-03T04:40:22Z

I had a lot of fun with this, played it 3 times. At one point I had 4 sirens going off and it started to sound like the game was saying "Go right, Go right, Go right" lol.

Goal and Crossbones by SkullPixel 2018-04-25T14:55:57Z

I really like how the field of view is centered on the 'ball'. This was a lot of fun.

Bullet Hell Breakout by schizoid2k 2018-04-23T22:02:33Z

@that-guy already covered all of my complaints about this game. I had fun playing it and would like to see it updated with better control.

Sneaky Drifty Race by Mike Cullingham 2018-05-03T15:41:12Z

I like the simple controls and concept a lot! Music would have been a nice addition- something chiptune-y maybe? Great work!

Guerrilla Gardening by randomhuman 2018-05-04T16:55:55Z

Played this a few too many times and am now behind on my schedule for today, very addictive game play :)

PataPata (Survival Rhythm) by seurimas 2018-04-24T23:53:24Z

I really like the artistic choice of altering the shadows on the characters to match the beat. If you were to implement this into a full game you could easily implement the beat into a 4 frame walk cycle with clothes or items moving uniquely for each character!

Flowdrive by Dustyroom 2018-04-25T16:49:56Z

I like the controls, reminded me of the micro machine racing games. The concept of not crossing lines was fun, good game!

Sure You Can! by sidewalksleeper 2018-04-30T16:35:21Z

I couldn't stop laughing and constantly falling into pits. I cant tell if I would prefer the music to not start over with my deaths, I kind of think that made it more funny but also more frustrating. Love the art, Love the music, and this whole concept is hilarious.

Fighter Flight Sim by chunkybrewster 2018-04-25T23:54:54Z

I wasn't super motivated to punch people at first but then i realized i was on a plane and i hate other passengers so I went to town. I feel like the humor could be fine tuned into something really snarky and appealing but also you should know that I cracked up when I caught sight of the copilot. Great job!

Player Alone BattleGrounds (Early Access) by ghust1995 2018-04-26T00:10:53Z

Really funny take on the theme, it was super fun to explore and also smash into the earth at terminal velocity cause the chute wouldn't open ;) My only real complaint is that the camera blur + movement sensitivity is quite nauseating but I freely admit I'm a little sensitive to that. Nice job!

TBFTWorLD41 by joemid 2018-05-01T16:29:54Z

The aesthetic is great! I think *any* guidance at all would have made this game much more accessible, however. Nothing was explained in game and it just kind of left me in the dark and disconnected. I feel like there's tons of potential here though! Nice work

ShardReign - A love Story by Flatgub 2018-05-02T04:19:43Z

The different sound for each character talking is great. Its amazing how much Big Snake sounded like Solid Snake while not being a voice. I love the graphics for this one as well. Great job!

RootNote by djfariel 2018-04-29T19:22:09Z

Rad, fits the theme very well. I am terrible at rhythm games so I'm kind of glad you don't have to hit the keys to a beat for this one. Trying to go as fast as I could to get more damage output was fun. I should try this again some time with a controller.

Space Bobble by japes 2018-04-30T16:03:48Z

It was an interesting idea. It took me a min to get the hang of it but once I realized I can just shoot colors I don't want into space I got a lot better at it. The faster speed makes it pretty hectic in a good way :)

Ok Tactics! by sorlok 2018-05-04T03:00:37Z

Fun game, I like how you have to stop the date to deal with fans then suffer the consequence of using your phone while on a date :)

FAST CRASH by tweedle 2018-04-26T00:31:02Z

I am here for this A E S T H E T I C omg

Rocket Punch by piscythe 2018-04-24T15:50:58Z

I survived for 71 seconds!

Black Jack Racing by tgiant 2018-05-09T00:28:03Z

I had a lot of fun with this. If you get behind the computer you want to deal fast and make quick decisions. Once I was ahead of the computer I would wait until the timer was at 1 before hitting or standing to get that much further ahead of the opponent. It was a very enjoyable positive feedback loop.

Harvest Rune by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2018-04-28T20:00:10Z

This game was a lot of fun, I think having more of a delay between planting and monsters being ready to 'harvest' would be best but otherwise I've played a lot of farming games in my day but none where you have to fight the crops. Its a lot of fun and worthy of continued development.

Snowy by broken-matrix 2018-05-03T04:26:34Z

The grappling felt very fun and intuitive. If you don't continue on this game you should keep that mechanic in mind for whatever else you work on, its solid. :)

Prom GOblin by Cameron Taylor 2018-04-25T00:12:14Z

The art is so cute, the visuals look really polished.

Shoot 'em Up & Slap 'em Down by Justin 2018-04-25T23:15:17Z

Fun game, I was getting into it then when paying to much attention to what cards I had I fell off the edge of the map lol, guess I should be more careful.

Excessive 2: Excessively Incompatible by moonlightbomber 2018-05-05T20:45:46Z

Good use of repetition, and your choice to not wipe the screen when using repetition was poignant. Very interesting way to deliver this story.

Joe Chef by Aumbra 2018-04-30T17:34:59Z

Very funny, I love the posing before the tomato fight. I'm actually really terrible at these kind of games and couldn't beat the tomato :sob:

A Type Of Rhythm by Space_man 2018-04-25T00:18:02Z

I love this game. The rhythm matching was challenging but not impossible and the music was catchy without being hard to anticipate. Great work!

Roulette Knight by Finlal 2018-05-07T16:52:08Z

Its the prettiest Skinner Box I've ever played. Very addictive game play keeps you wanting to try one more time. The level up skill tree was a great addition!

Don't Shoot (Visual Novel / Tac Shooter by tigerrenko 2018-04-30T02:39:52Z

Neat idea, I think a visual indicator that the countdown is happening during a decision would be helpful- so that i know the game's gonna pick for me if I don't hurry up. Also I think the general text could use a little more editing, there were some confusing sentences and typos. Cool concept overall, it fits the theme well!

Soccer for Strategy by jondalnas 2018-05-10T04:33:50Z

I want to see more turn based strategy sports games!

BEAT KILLER by Dragojt 2018-04-27T02:10:33Z

Whoah that's a neat concept. Super hard for my old person brain to parse out the controls a little though, I definitely experienced a bit of a learning curve.

Puttsy by morrilet 2018-04-27T04:50:58Z

Who knew a tower defense golf game would make such a good puzzle game! I was confused at first but once I realized what was I was supposed to do with the towers I startled my cat by laughing out loud. This was a lot of fun!

Armagedunk by videodog 2018-04-26T01:25:18Z

Love the story, when I got caught I was expecting Sneak.. Sneeeak!!

Snack & Slash by Gumboot 2018-05-06T17:21:26Z

The art direction in this is amazing. Everything meshes together so nicely and each room feels unique and vibrant. Great job!

Infinite Typer by theamazingb 2018-04-25T00:30:35Z

Super hard but a great concept.

Rythmer by TheWGBbroz 2018-05-09T00:38:31Z

I'm no good at rhythm games so I killed myself pretty quick. I love platformers though and I thought the jumping and movement was very intuitive and felt good.

Alien Holes by bazld 2018-04-27T21:20:09Z

I found it pretty easy to control the force applied to the ball, but difficult to move the camera around. On my first attempt had to decide to stop playing because I kept increasing time, if you add more holes maybe limit the number of balls players get per hole, or have a set goal and a timer they are trying to beat..

Regardless this was very fun, one of my favorites from this jam, and believe it or not I don't actually like golf games or shooter games..

Alien Holes by bazld 2018-04-29T19:41:15Z

@bazld Its good to get out of your comfort zone and learn new things but making a game you like and sharing it is what makes game dev so fun. I really dig this game, I'll have to check out your pool game.

Do you think it would be OK if I reach out to you in the future with some unity questions? I'm in the middle of making a weird physics based bowling game and would love if you could point me in the direction of how you added force to the ball in this game (how it hits harder if you shoot the laser closer to the ball).

Alien Holes by bazld 2018-04-30T04:15:28Z

@bazld Thank you, Also your pool game is fun, I found myself keeping track of how many shots it took to sink all the balls and trying to beat my own record, gotta stop playing that so I can play more LD41 games. Seriously thanks again your really cool!

Crazy Cube by YANIV 2018-05-05T20:24:39Z

Very fun, very intuitive design. I would love to see this on a controller with a twin stick shooter layout. I think you did a particularly good job building up the difficulty by starting with basically harmless enemy's the player can learn the core concept of the game in relative safety. Excellent tutorial design!

A Tale of Two Towers by Articulated9 2018-04-27T02:12:51Z

Dialog and humorous artwork really made this an interesting play.

Breacard by Mr ChocolateSalmon 2018-05-02T22:48:27Z

Simple and clean! Clever concept!

MNSWPR by Anne Ogborn 2018-04-23T21:07:29Z

Neat idea, I like the flickering screen/terminal emulation, it really brought me back to those chunky text games of the 80s. Also, the narrative tone of minesweeper is just so ludicrous. I love it.

Dog Care Center by Fran Segura 2018-04-29T18:39:54Z

Its so hectic and fun!

Woodsy by ghodan 2018-05-06T16:41:50Z

I absolutely adore the character designs. Peter is perfect in every way! The cat, just WOW! The art in this game blew me away!

土星の台頭 - Saturn Rising by p-r 2018-04-29T18:03:28Z

すごい。。。ゲームは面白いですよ!

I love how the big robot is playing a platformer and you can jump on the support characters to move further into the level. I really like how each character has its own specialty. If you sink some more time into this I think it can become a cult classic!

TOBY GAWK PRO WALKER (🔥NOW WITH HTML🔥) by N8M8 2018-04-25T00:40:26Z

Great concept, I love the audio and thought it was a perfect fit.

Oni Hunter by pataya 2018-05-07T16:29:13Z

Very solid game, great job on the difficulty progression and the pacing for adding new challenges.

Bully squares by kpded 2018-04-25T23:37:03Z

Nice implementation of the theme! Like a few others have mentioned: the controls weren't super intuitive, ingame highlights or text would be helpful. Looks great tho!

Tristakto by ghostmaple 2018-05-10T04:04:29Z

This is a lot of fun, played it with my spouse 5 times, she won so I have to write the review ;)

Blitztris by ThatFrankGuy 2018-04-30T17:04:42Z

I like the concept/music/graphics but I dont see a way to download a version of the game that was uploaded before the deadline.

Also the bubble wrap was a fun extra.

Fightwriter by Anudin 2018-05-02T03:57:19Z

Excellent tutorial level. Didn't feel to hand holdey while ensuring we knew the basics of the game before presenting us with danger. Very good level design!

Fightwriter by Anudin 2018-05-02T21:25:37Z

@Anudin Running out of time is what LD is all about :) The tutorial was very good though surprising that hasn't been called out more. I strongly prefer tutorials that let the player learn how to play on their own rather than telling them (of course my game has big text explaining a weird button choice...) I'll try harder next time to practice what I preach. Keep up the good work.

Interdenominational BROwS by Ratherjolly 2018-04-28T18:56:19Z

I'm not sure what happened but player 2 suddenly got thrown way off the map and I had to run around and try to pick flowers by myself with half the screen solid white. The narration was jarring at first but endearing and kind of reminded me of playing The Beginners Guide or Icey. More developers should play with that idea.

Card Racer by madxmd 2018-04-29T19:33:39Z

This felt like it could be a lot of fun, I wish there was sound and that hitting a wall did not mean turning to face the wall head on. Also don't sell yourself short that art is really impressive for a 12 hour project!

Bloom by LuckyFeathers 2018-05-04T17:39:54Z

This is the turn based strategy game I've always wanted. I don't have to fight, i'm just trying to make a cool civilization and get along with my neighboring clans! I love this!

We left you a silly review if you want to check it out: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/modern-fairway-4-spec-ops-in-the-rough/$96351

League of Adventure by Draklaw 2018-05-04T21:18:53Z

I like the concept a lot, the turn-based movement really makes it super strategic. That being said, i feel like the complexity and information density of the ingame instructions kind of work against jumping right into this. Some icons or color coding in the UI might go a long way. Great basis for something really intricate though.

🌸 Vernal 🌼 by kyyninen 2018-05-05T18:11:34Z

I like the relaxing feel to this a lot! Interesting sfx.

Dungeon Solitaire by Scrumplesplunge 2018-04-27T21:35:05Z

Its like if the games I played as a kid got mixed with the games my parents played as a kid. Loved the graphics and the music, very retro!

Beat The Narrator! by CursedEmbassy 2018-05-04T17:07:42Z

The hand drawn art style was really fun, I also love the gun SFX. Thank you for making this.

Extreme Tower Fishing 2018 by Roka Josh 2018-05-04T17:23:32Z

Switching between defending and fishing was a lot of fun. I like that you cant see the tower side while fishing so you just have to trust that the defenses you placed are working. This is a game I can see myself playing many more times.

Iocus Navis by Ranzor 2018-04-23T22:24:42Z

The basic mechanics of this were a lot of fun, if you add more cards and telegraph what enemy are likely to do (maybe just let the player see their hand) it can be a really great game. I would also like a game like this that is multiplayer but with a lot of players at once.

HomicIDLE by Luke Brown 2018-04-25T23:03:10Z

Its my birthday today, your skeletons disappointing birthday party made me crack up :)

BBall by carlosvVk 2018-05-05T20:55:26Z

This is such a unique idea, I've played ~150 games from this jam so far but have not come across a platform breakout game, and its surprisingly easy to control. I would like to see this idea fleshed out more. It was a lot of fun, thank you for making it.

Final Football Tactics by clue 2018-04-28T22:35:31Z

This is a fun concept that could easily be polished into a full game. ✌️

Grid Gunner by SuperTibbles 2018-04-25T03:55:04Z

Great game, I love SHMUPS and Bullet Hell games, I like the turn based aspect, makes it a kind of puzzle game. Really well done!

Soccer Battle Royale by ditzel 2018-04-26T03:07:14Z

I saw this one on my Google news feed and knew I had to play it! Very fun, Please PLEASE make a multiplayer version of this.

YOU LEFT ME. by Angela He 2018-04-25T15:25:10Z

The art, and music were amazing. The clinic worker with the mouth full of secrets 👌

Pinplat by svyatozar 2018-04-23T21:16:03Z

The genre mix up is genius. We came up with some weird platformer concepts but I love the pinball execution + vertical stage design.

The Long Walk by kromeboy 2018-04-24T15:39:20Z

@saoi-games I agree, putting in real info from victims of gun violence (then wiring up some kind of donate feature to an appropriate charity) would probably get this game a LOT of press and make people confront their own opinions/beliefs, this game would be capital A art.

The Long Walk by kromeboy 2018-05-10T23:25:04Z

Hey! I wrote a silly review for your game here if you'd like to take a look! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/modern-fairway-4-spec-ops-in-the-rough/$96464

Cropping Up by AugusteTheClown 2018-04-25T22:24:18Z

This was a lot of fun, I like that you have to harvest the weapons that you are using to defend in order to grow more.

Farm of Duty by Jima 2018-04-25T22:53:18Z

I really like the low poly look, and mixing an FPS with a farming sim is a fun idea. I got board of having to pick up each berry and coin, would be nice to auto collect.

Golf Slayer by sanjeev 2018-04-25T04:33:59Z

I really like when you leave the normal battle system to put in the top down mini golf course. I went over par and got a bad result but I thought it was really fun!

Billard Dungeon by DoctorAlpaca 2018-05-10T03:50:20Z

Cracked up at this game over screen. This is a very unique idea, and it was a lot of fun! Thanks for making this :) Capture.PNG

Check, Please! by swav_gav 2018-04-25T16:33:54Z

I absolutely love having the title card and controls on the menu, and the credits on the bill, great polish!

Stirfry's Rhythm Rave by joltjab 2018-04-27T23:14:01Z

I think the timing might be just slightly off but this is a great looking game for a weekend job!

Zombie Golf by RahmKota3 2018-05-05T18:03:55Z

Man, maybe I'm biased but weird, subversive golf games are SO FUNNY.

Barbarian Invasion by BobbyTables 2018-05-02T04:41:59Z

I was only able to survive 4 waves after playing twice.

Stealth Trucking by Crabman 2018-05-04T03:13:14Z

Its so stressful when you are spotted and the music changes :scream: I would like to see a version of this with some creepy trucker lore. Great job on the atmosphere!

Solid Chef by ObusWolf 2018-04-25T04:30:15Z

Best stealth cooking game I've ever played.

Type Hero Adventures by Adriano Verissimo 2018-05-02T22:32:17Z

Love the text graphics/kao face! I apparently have a very noisy keyboard and didn't know until just now because of how violently I was trying to smash the word JUMP. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The adventure of Fire elemental by maoap 2018-04-23T22:49:01Z

This was a lot of fun, I've never considered a tower defense game where everything is placed and you have to make the best path. 2nd level was real challenging. Thank you for making this.

The not-so Correct Platformer by notpresident35 2018-04-27T05:01:19Z

The music is so good! I want to listen to this while I study!

The not-so Correct Platformer by notpresident35 2018-04-27T18:32:34Z

@notpresident35 I study fast ;)

Shoot 'N Hockey by Adam Trzeszczak 2018-04-26T00:24:02Z

Nice concept! We did a sports + shooter derivative game too, wanna see? https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/modern-fairway-4-spec-ops-in-the-rough

Tennis Hero by JeffChen 2018-04-25T15:32:50Z

Very clean looking, great polish!

Honest Dan's Trout by Honest Dan 2018-05-05T20:12:24Z

This game is absolutely amazing. So well polished, such simple gameplay that takes real skill to master. Gotta go show this to my non dev friends now.

Modern Bowlfare by Derek Wilson 2018-05-06T17:09:53Z

Hilarious combination, this is my kind of game! We made a FPS Golf game for the jam and we are currently working on a bowling game. The camera transitions from frame to frame were a really nice touch, and the way the pins break into rubble was very satisfying.

Music Make Me Shoot My Gun by AHS 2018-04-25T16:04:24Z

I'm terrible at rhythm games but I really appreciate that this is a rhythm game and not a rhythm themed game like the other 'rhythm' games i've played from this jam. You actually have to hit the keys in time with the music, so I died :)

Don't look at Greg by hankworx 2018-04-24T23:46:43Z

Love the graphic style, it's cute but also like, really creepy and unsettling at the same time.

Run Away the Simulation by CapitanRetraso 2018-04-27T21:00:14Z

Its surprising how much clicking to keep the health up adds to the feeling of urgency to rush through the level.

Super Slime Slasher Ultra by sebastianscaini 2018-05-01T16:10:37Z

Love the art!

Rockin' Horse by niterich 2018-04-26T02:59:52Z

I tried playing the game before reading how to play and kept getting stuck on the stairs, tried it again after reading how to play and made progress. Fun and creative idea.

Putt Putt Boom by AndrewW 2018-04-27T02:04:03Z

Neat concept, but as a few people have said, the waves are a bit long. :)

Dirty Pink by Carpin 2018-04-24T23:59:47Z

yoooo these visuals are SICK!

Dungeon Solitaire by Lex 2018-05-03T04:01:42Z

This game is amazing! Put this out with controller support and I would play it for hours!

Dungeon Solitaire by Lex 2018-05-15T21:54:42Z

Congratulations this was one of my absolute favorite games and I NEED you to make it even better. This is a real gem and should be pursued further.

omg no dog, i just want a pizza. Love the genre mix up and the retro aesthetic.

Capture.PNG

This was a lot of fun in the early game but in the late game it felt like the enemy was not getting stronger. I really enjoyed the beginning though and think with a little tuning this would be a game I play for days.

Haiti Kitty by Beebo Studios 2018-04-25T13:41:26Z

I LOVE the concept and the artwork + bonus points for combining 3 themes! Some ingame control prompts would have been highly appreciated as I found myself scrolling down to check the controls constantly. I feel like my Palico from Monster Hunter World would be super into these pastimes.

TAP by MosesG 2018-05-03T15:48:48Z

I've played a few text-based platformers this dare but I like how all the movement is tied to the input and there aren't enemies moving real-time while you frantically try to type. That said, having enemies move but maybe only when you do might be neat. Great job on the audio/visual component as well!

Hit the Green! by Azathothep 2018-05-07T15:46:44Z

LOL we had the same idea, FPS + Golf, low poly environments, cheerful music to make an absurd and funny golf experience. You have a much more polished version. I really like your course design and the arrow that points players to where the hole is. If you want to see another teams take on the same idea check out our game. Some 'features' ours has that yours did not:

1. Broken menu's (the mouse is hidden when going from game to menu's so you cant click anything 2. Floating plants 3. Hide and seek to find the hole

Bomb In Rhythm by finalspace 2018-05-03T04:17:42Z

This game is beautiful, the color shift when taking damage was a fantastic idea.

BeatDown by Cody Foster 2018-04-28T22:25:52Z

This is an awesome concept! Also it was super cool of you to add keyboard support as a post-dare thing but I kind of think that without its own set of indicators, using a keyboard is quite difficult. I know I had a hard time remembering the key-conversions and then looking at the button letters on screen just sort of threw me off more lol. I can totally understand developing this game without that support initially, but if you're going to add it you may want to consider adjusting the visuals as well. ✌️

Racing Defender by nicksmaddog 2018-04-27T04:19:27Z

I like how this gives more incentive to want to go fast.

BIRKANOID by MateCziner 2018-04-23T21:48:59Z

I loved this game, took 2 game types I already love and made a very RAD experience. I saved it to my itch.io collection so I can get some Breakout card game action again later!

Dodobrawl by RustyMonky 2018-04-23T21:21:19Z

First of all the art is a very strange but likeable mix of very weird and cute. The pacing of the card game is fast enough to make me feel a bit frantic but not so much that it's all frustrated button mashing. I liked it a lot!

Roguelike Shmup by SocialRobot 2018-04-28T21:58:59Z

Wow, challenging! The textbox describing the actions off to the side made me chuckle. Great themeing.

Dog Lawyer by David Wallett 2018-04-28T19:38:56Z

I've always been a fan of games like Phoenix write and Danganronpa. It was a real treat to play this, thanks.

rtsClicker by Beelzeboss 2018-04-25T23:42:41Z

Nice concept, a lot of people implemented clicker mechanics but this was really quite fun. A few people above mentioned but some GUI polishing would be very helpful here. Otherwise, I like the minimalist style and neon lights, it matched the music well!

Skate'n'Snipe by Jonathan Lorenz 2018-04-30T15:46:02Z

Super fun, the music was great and the game was easy to pick up and start playing.

Fishing Asteroids by Arbosis 2018-04-27T02:16:56Z

Frankly, I think this might be one of my favorite entries so far. Its relaxing and has good visuals. With a slightly crunchier soundtrack, this game would be amazing.

Fishing Asteroids by Arbosis 2018-05-03T16:19:34Z

fyi i made a silly little review for your game, you can check it here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/modern-fairway-4-spec-ops-in-the-rough/$95928

Cruise & Co. by Blinkenlights 2018-05-11T04:10:52Z

The voice acting is top! Super funny game and it taught me how quickly I'll die if I have to talk to children while driving. VERY QUICKLY.

Unidungeon by Centauri 2018-04-25T00:26:09Z

Concept is neat! I think this could really benefit from some fonts that aren't Arial and more creepy, ambient music for the title screen and possibly no music for the game scen. :)

The Mad King's Tournament by ZaneDD 2018-04-26T02:49:56Z

This would be really cool with multiplayer!

Zombigwa Machine by IExSpecter 2018-04-30T02:29:27Z

Really liked the music and pixel art, it looks great especially considering it was a 1 person team.

Racket Road by DownVoteGames 2018-04-25T23:31:22Z

Really neat concept that fits the theme! I freely admit I might just be terrible at it but the difficulty curve seems a bit steep. Maybe some vague indication of where the enemy's aiming would help. Otherwise it was super fun and looks great considering how much time was put into it!

Click for Speed by Borodar 2018-04-23T21:01:10Z

Wow! I love the environment assets and the music choice was tops! I found it a little difficult to hit the left/right while frantically clicking but I can accept that as a legit difficulty curve!

Pinball Gardener by KianaMosser 2018-04-25T15:56:07Z

Very cute game, I would love to see an updated version of it.

Change of Pace by DoctorMozart 2018-05-07T16:55:44Z

I love the 70's sounding music and the hipster character design. Its funny and cute.

Mecha Dress Up by Yuri Simoes Arce 2018-04-25T13:19:00Z

This would make a great mobile game that I would definitely play! Especially with more dress up items! Super cute robot squee animation and I love the music transition.

Conquering Magic by Outfoxed 2018-04-27T23:09:54Z

I feel like the tutorial is way to text-dense and long to be effective at holding the player's attention but the system isn't as complicated as it seems and the art is very cute!

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-23T22:07:25Z

@piscythe Thanks! We forgot to apply colliders to the rock and tree/cactus models before placing them :) It would have taken to long to fix. I've always been terrible at FPS games and thought the difficulty hitting the ball was just me lol. Anyway if you play again the game randomly drops you into one of 2 scenes a mostly featureless desert and a mostly featureless grassy area. The Grassy area is where we learned we needed a function to find the ball. It gets lost in the rough and even once you find it if its moving at all its soo hard to track.

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-23T22:49:57Z

@piscythe lol, sorry. Thanks for playing it though.

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-25T01:26:21Z

@Listonos Thank you! We actually were able to come up with a couple fun ideas for this theme but we thought this one sounded the funniest. (I cackled the whole time i was making the menu images)

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-25T01:27:33Z

@Joe Zabriskie Thanks, man! As far as the gun sensitivity goes- we're actually really, really bad at shooters (like, unforgivably terrible) and had minimal frame of reference when we were trying to refine it! Several people have mentioned it though, so I will file that away for later!

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-25T01:30:47Z

@noumenus We noticed the cursor thing too but it was too late to fix! (Foolishly we had a tabletop rpg scheduled with some friends for immediately after the submission deadline oops. We'll definitely keep that day clear for polish/bug fixes on the next dare)

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-25T01:37:24Z

@Beebo-Studios Unfortunately we had many floating cacti/trees because we placed them all by hand. Why did we place them all by hand? We forgot about rigidbodies and colliders and stuff and then it was too late cause Ludum Dare waits for no dev. Especially sleep deprived ones subsisting on frozen pizza. Thank you very much for the fish!

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-25T16:20:05Z

@Yozamu Thanks, if people like the game enough we might re-visit it and make all the trees/cacti be stuck into the ground, I think I would stick with the low poly look, probably get the ground and guns ect.. to fit that art style as well.

@kpded I'm really happy with how absurd the mechanics turned out to be.

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-25T21:35:37Z

@kpded I am making a note of this right now.

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-25T21:39:19Z

@Beelzeboss Thank you! Most of the music was from Kevin MacLeod- a free use composer who does a lot of different genres. He's a godsend!

@chunkybrewster Not gonna lie, we had to research both guns and clubs to come up with those names but we were laughing while we typed them out and figured that was a good sign.

@ghust1995 Thank you very much! We loved the theme and were so excited to get a concept down after it was released. We had some other funny ideas but golf + FPS seemed the most outlandish and that's how Modern Fairway 4 was born.

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-26T00:01:14Z

@hankworx yeah we weren't sure about the stamina bar either but of course we had very little time to play test lol

@fitz13 Thank YOU for playing it!! Depending on a bunch of factors- including the overall interest here on Ludum Dare- we might continue with development to full release. We REALLY enjoyed working on this so fingers crossed!

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-26T15:07:54Z

@Karai17 Thank you! Time management and scope were our biggest hurdles in this Dare (which was our first). Going through this again, we'd definitely place those things on a higher priority.

@Nannah Thank you very much! We had a couple minor crises with the models and placed many of them by hand which is why some of them are mysteriously floating haha.

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-27T12:45:02Z

@Phil-Busuttil Ball movement is definitely on our list of improvements if we ultimately decide to go forward with this. Thanks for playing!

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-27T23:03:28Z

@notpresident35 @Dovakla @Sharks @Amour-Du-Pain Thank you so much!

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-29T01:33:17Z

@niterich thanks for playing and commenting! While we only had a few hours to really conceptualize MF4, we both decided that keeping the genres more disparate in menus and level design was funnier than playing a full FPS with a golf ball for a target. Personally, i think keeping things a little jarring like that adds to the humor but I can absolutely see the appeal in a full FPS style get up with a golf mechanic (it's just as outlandish, really).

Also thanks for the feedback on the other points as well! If we decide to push MF4 to a full release we'll definitely work on refining those things!

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-29T17:02:34Z

@wildcard No option for the sensitivity, nether of us actually play FPS games so we didn't know that was an issue. We both had trouble hitting the ball while play testing but we thought that was just because we sucked at FPS games :)

After the judging is over I plan to fix that.

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-30T23:31:20Z

@Anudin Thank you for playing and for the feedback, After the judging is over we will be making a few improvements, and if the game is popular enough we may re-visit the idea and make it into a full game.

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-05-02T03:16:09Z

@joemid You became the ball to overcome the ball!

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-05-04T02:27:53Z

@Diego-Manarim I hate golf but I really like a few mini golf games. Been playing a lot of Desert Golf lately and Kirby's Dreamcourse is one of my favorite games. We left you a review on itch.io

@TheMonsterFromTheDeep I thought the guns were always assigned the same number but it is based on the order in which they are picked up. I'll make sure to change the wording on those. Thanks for catching that.

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-05-08T15:36:59Z

@mr-chocolatesalmon it was either Tchaikovsky or that really famous refrain from non piu andrai and it was a REALLY tough choice!

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-05-10T03:32:23Z

@kpded Flame Thrower has been added to post Jam version, its in the giant skull behind the player starting position on the desert location. We named it after you

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-05-10T23:33:42Z

@LuckyFeathers Thank you for playing! You made an awesome 4X game in this time frame so saying we ran out of time sounds lame but well, we did. Thank you for the advice about screen size scaling, we will definitely be doing that in our other games.

I will say that the ball always moving was a conscious decision. I accidentally forgot to add drag and while play testing thought it was fun/funny that the ball was basically avoiding me, especially in the rough where it is like your trying to hit a spy ball in the grass. I added drag and though the game felt boring, its too easy to hit a stationary ball and the force applied to the ball is straight so its not hard to get t to go where you want. In the post jam version I left the lack of drag so the ball continues to be evasive.

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-05-12T19:32:31Z

@Blinkenlights lol I should probably put some kind of invisible wall around the hole to keep players from falling in. Or make the hole smaller but then it would be way to hard to get the ball in it. Glad you enjoyed our game :)

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-05-15T16:05:20Z

@Sokuaisushi Thanks, we didn't make the art assets so I opted out of Graphics. We did place them all in the terrain by hand which is why the jam version has do many floating plants, and unseen by players but many subterranean flowers ;)

I'm glad you liked the look of it.

Tower Defense Paradise! by Sokuaisushi 2018-05-15T16:02:39Z

Your post on the front of site hooked me, I had to play this! Its a surprising combination and I had blast playing it.

Crane Quandary by Strato 2018-04-25T16:42:21Z

Great puzzle platformer, I really like the mechanics or using the crane game to change the level and get places, I would buy it!

On The Fly by qkjosh 2018-04-25T02:16:25Z

This is easily one of the best looking entries i've seen so far! Its charming and relaxing and the sound design is SO well done!

Gun Appetit! by Nyunesu 2018-04-28T19:25:49Z

Very cool idea, and I love the design of the main character! I really like how you keep the pressure up by not pausing time in the menu. Reminded me of The Last Of Us, and ZombieU. Keep up the great work :)

Soccer Fight by mic_matrix91 2018-05-02T04:02:26Z

Had to go back to your itch.io page to figure out how to play but once I knew the controls this was a lot of fun. Also the SFX were 100% on point!

Math Blast! by Joe Zabriskie 2018-04-25T13:28:15Z

Neat concept- I think the visual style could use a little refinement, like someone above said the projectiles are a bit hard to differentiate from the background but that could be as simple as a color adjustment and like a metallic or lighting effect or even making the projectiles diamond shaped instead of round. I really liked the 'organic' sfx, they were quirky and added a fun touch.

Tactical Hydra by MacDoom 2018-04-28T22:46:31Z

Neat idea, I found it quite challenging but the concept/theme of it is super rad (also the graphic/sound combo is noice)

Cosmic Potato Trader Simulator by Delta Key 2018-05-05T21:21:26Z

I really like the idea of mixing an economy game and a shmup. Also making the ammunition the thing you are trading makes for interesting choices, do I want to clear the enemy to make it easier to not take hits or try to just dodge to get more cash!

Pet Food by thebreakfast 2018-05-03T03:48:08Z

I got 5200 points! Good music choice it really fits well with how silly the game play is.

Tank Elevated by Subhajit Nath 2018-04-25T13:23:44Z

The particle effects and tank sprites look great, the jumping was definitely difficult and I felt like if the thrust was extended just a little the difficulty curve wouldn't be quite so steep. Overall fun game, though, and like I said the visual stile and audio are great!

Tour de Arizona by honey 2018-04-29T17:47:27Z

Really digging the Arizona olde-timey theme.

Birbo the Game! by yeoldecoot 2018-04-27T04:39:10Z

It feels really solid when my notes hit enemy's.

Date Night by Darby Costello 2018-05-11T04:51:04Z

Really cool art style. Also loved the "Whoever created these clearly ran out of time during a game jam" line. I screen shot it and everything only to see someone beat me to it.

Amass a Fleet by Isle 3 Studios 2018-04-30T02:33:09Z

Considering this is a Jam game, it looks great. I think the movement could use some polish, mostly, but the animation and overall aesthetic are tops.

Snakes and Ladders: A Texted Based Adventure Game by argowen 2018-04-28T19:09:38Z

Raucous Raccard by noumenus 2018-04-25T00:35:30Z

I love the concept but like many people said, there's a bit of a difficulty curve. With a little refinement though, I think this could be an awesome full release.

Rhythm Wheels by Llopis 2018-04-30T17:42:03Z

How to Train your Cat by Team Orange Pop 2018-04-25T22:44:05Z

Witch's Escape by cristiano.m.garcia 2018-04-29T02:27:52Z

Art assets look really good! I think some more driving music might up the intensity a little but the piece you picked isn't bad!
