Weird game, but it has funny sound effects
pretty confusing at first. But kinda zen and peaceful. I like it. ld41vernal.PNG
I... think I achieved the end state? Or Nirvana, I'm not sure which. I noticed the beeping and chirping noises before realizing the rain wasn't letting up. Guessing that's the end. I sorta got what the game was about after a bit (I think), though I'm not even sure what genre this is supposed to be, let alone what combination! Still, for a game made on a train, that's pretty impressive~
bmmmmmmmm, bmmmmmmmmm, bmmmmmmm!
This was a weirdly enjoyable experience. I never quite knew where I was going with it but, as others mentioned, it was a relaxing experience. Interesting sound effects as well, they started off annoying but then transitioned to being relaxing over time. I didn't find a way to get to the end state, but I might give it another go later.
Bonus points for the game's nomadic development! Cool and relaxing. Artistic. Weird in a good way. I didn't have a touchscreen to play with, so I'm not sure if anything was lost in the process. Simple but appealing graphics, and fun mellow audio. Not so much connected with the theme as far as I could tell, but a nice break from all of the "game games" here. Thanks for creating this experience @kyyninen.
I'm not sure what I played, but I can definitely say that I enjoyed the experience!
This was a lot of fun to play around with, and figure out how the different objects behaved. I also reached the point where it didn't seem to stop raining, which I figured was the end, and I liked how the sound effects built up to that point.
I like the relaxing feel to this a lot! Interesting sfx.
Cool game! It's kind of weird, but I got a little bit addictive to it. I think I reached the end state, because the rain didn't end. Sometimes all my sounds went off, I don't know why, maybe that's because of my tablet. But anyway, good job, great game!
An interesting aesthetic! I always enjoy games with the mouth made sounds as well!
Super wacky game! Congratulations on creating it just on a tablet!
I liked the atmosphere in this, and with how little it is being achieved! peaceful, except for the fact that you are killing small creatures who just want to pass by :d
my only problem was that the player moves to a shorter distance in the same duration, which makes me feel weird when I move around.
development circumstances sound interesting, maybe this could be an intentional focus of some jam (you could only participate if you are on travel or something)
I streamed myself playing your game. You can watch the vod of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeVofreh9pA

Thank you everybody for wonderful comments! As rating draws to a close, I thinks it's time to answer some questions.
@joe40001 This was extremely helpful! Certain amount of obtuseness and leaving player to discover game mechanics was intended, but I didn't realize that the only piece of advice I decided to give was so misleading! I added gameplay video and more (accurate) guidance, but I guess the damage is done at this point... _e: Also, "I didn't hate it" is a box quote for the ages_
@unless-games I've played this game now for hours and I think you are right. Especially since the endgame mostly involves manipulating other objects, moving the avatar feels really sluggish and unresponsive. I'll experiment with (near) instant transportation today and see how it feels.
@DerLasseHenrich Were you playing on Chrome? I've had time to test the game at this point and noticed this happening only on that browser. It might also have something to do with game engine itself, there's lots of audio stuff going on simultaneously and maybe it's just too much for Construct.
@justinooncx I talk about [The Genre Thing](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/vernal/vernal-now-on-itch-io-also-short-mortem) on my short mortem.
It's been a pleasure, as always. Again, thanks for playing and I hope you enjoyed your time as much as I did!
__EDIT: [Also, there's a post jam version on Itch.io...](https://kyyninja.itch.io/vernal)__
@kyyninen Yeah exactly, I was playing on Chrome. So that's the reason for it.
The aesthetics are definitely chill, and the game feel is captivating. I think the colliders are too big for the elements. But that's not big trouble. Very trippy game. Nicely done!! 🐸
The artstyle is unique and kind of relaxing. Had a good time playing it
@kyyninen yeah, just make the leg-dude move with the same speed/acceleration no matter the distance and it will feel more natural. for example if you are using some kind of animate function where you have to input the time it takes to animate, first calculate the distance between start and finish point, then multiply it with some constant and input the result instead of the fixed ~1500 milliseconds you are using now. good luck!
