Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → Users → moonlightbomber
One character got stuck on a crate when the other pushed it all the way to the corner. That's a major glitch, but it did not ruin an other wise good game.
Good going. But I hope you can fix the save/load/options menu.
This VN is nice, but I'd wish you'd use a different BGM for the dramatic latter half.
Great philosophical writing, and I hope you can convert this into a text adventure some time in the future.
Overall, this VN is good, save for some nitpicks.
1. Event CGs are called event CGs for a reason. They signify an event that cannot be conveyed by ordinary character sprites alone. As an experienced VN connoisseur since 2005, please do not place character sprites when showing event CGs.
2. Some typos and grammatical errors remain, but they do not bother me a lot.
3. A credits sequence would be nice.
Last Man Standing: What OS are you running?
Love the ambient sounds that combine with the music.
Besides the aforementioned huge difficulty spike in the beginning, there's also a lack of an intro that details the hero's current circumstances.
Good writing, but if you gave one more day, you could have made this visual novel better with some background pics and music.
Very good take on the theme, but I'd wish the jumping controls are tighter.
Hope you can expand the game by adding more levels. This has potential.
It's a mind-screw game, to be honest.
Yup, it's Bomberman, but with the freedom to move anywhere and without the "one hit and you die" schtick.
Good game, but I'd wish you'd loop the music.
The game would be better if it had the ability to turn around and fire in that direction. Otherwise, good start.
Didn't expect another visual novel other than mine to pop up. The story is nice, and the graphics show generational change as advertised. Nice work.
If the controls were more responsive and the movements were less jerky, I'd rate this higher.
Fellow story writer, good job on your piece. You took a unique approach to growth.
Great going, fellow visual novel maker. My visual novel also anchors on the growth aspect of love.
I'd wish you add some music, and there are some typos I've spotted.
Better continue your game. This has so much potential.
This has the potential to become a full game. Keep it up.
This could have the potential to be a good rhythm game.
The 8-bit look is great, but did I hear the main melody of the Attack on Titan opening theme somewhere?
Got the same bug. Lil' fuzzy got stuck to the wall.
The controls are OK. The graphics and animation really need to get a lot more polish.
I concur with the others. This game was too easy, but still fun. Perhaps the blocks floating in the background are the hazards?
It would help if you polished up the graphics; and also disabled the menu, because there are no RPG mechanics to speak of.
As an RPG Maker XP game, this needs to have some battle animations and some more extra polish, but I understand those omissions with the development time limit.
Plus, the endgame was easy, considering I steamrolled all the enemies with the AOE attacks.
Otherwise, the theme implementation is nice. Two buttons vying to take control of the main character.
Are the delayed controls intentional?
The voice acting can make people chuckle. This is the strongest part of the game.
You should try improving the hitboxes on Santa's bag attack. Also, please implement weapon upgrades.
Lettuce is so cute.
A nice, cute story about a girl who must muster up courage and be determined. And that's as far as I will go without going into spoiler territory.
The basic gameplay mechanic reminds me of the mobile RPG, Fairune.
This can be a great start to a more-polished game. If you have stuff like power-ups or enhanced attacks, this can be more fun to play.
I've given high scores for the mere reason of "imprisonment in a room full of regrets".
Why does this game remind me of Splatoon?
I cannot find the executable, even with Visual Studio.
I really hope you can expand this.
I'd wish there was a tutorial stage for players to get up to snuff.
I really wish you can expand on this. You've stated that you had to cut a lot of stuff out, so an eventual version 2.0 will restore that cut content.
But still, you were able to crank out a nice visual novel.
You really need to place a cursor on the player character. It gets really confusing which red man is the one you're actually controlling.
Make the game less frustrating. The second room requires lots of button-mashing.
Is the middle finger logo intentional?
Please don't use URL shorteners next time, so that more people enjoy your game.
As someone who is used to RPGs and their implementation of elemental alignments, I still came out as having a "sub-par" performance.
This game has so much potential. The graphics and the music are easily the highest points of this game. But please fix those two issue first:
1. The stages are too difficult for beginners to rhythm games. Why not take a page from Dance Dance Revolution and include multiple difficulty levels for each stage?
2. Besides the earth, wind, fire, and air stages; aren't there any more of them?
Short, but sweet.
Please state how players can switch weapons.
404 error on the embed. Can't rate it.
I beat in in just 30 seconds.
Tip: On the link, right-click the "ArcadeWar" folder, and then click "Download" on the pop-up menu. Wait for the zip file to package itself.
I've made it through wave 16 with all weapons maxed out.
The Holocaust is a serious matter, and this game handled it the way it should be. Kudos.
@Xero560: I try as much as possible to make a complete and coherent game with Ren'Py. There's some character art, UI tweaking, gathering of royalty-free resources, and other fine details to do, but the story is the most important part. Try finishing it first before coding the rest of the game in.
@terryg: I have a system at home running Windows 7, and it's running fine. Most likely, you have a buggy graphics card driver. You can also consult this page for more help: https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/problems.html
The overall premise is fun, but as a fellow visual novel creator, I recommend that you polish your game in all aspects.
Now THIS is a literal use of the theme.
I guess you have a unique spin on Sokoban.
The controls are easy to comprehend, and you can decide which play style you want to have. Good job.
I really like how the music changes to adapt to the stage Emily is in.
This game is so French.
The room transitions are the most innovative part of the game.
It's a 3D first-person horror take on Pac-Man. Nothing more needs to be said.
The humor would get a 5 if you have inserted a Gordon Ramsay joke somewhere.
Not a fan of The Witcher series, but this is interesting fan-fiction.
It's something you can pick up and play.
Better yet, the title should be "I've Have Had It with These Motherf---ing Snakes on This Motherf---ing Castle!"
Please make the jumping mechanics more accurate. I've had some difficulty reaching the platforms.
A game where senility is an interpretation of running out of power? This is great.
Reminds me of that cold pipe game for Windows 3.1/95.
This has great potential as a full-fledged fighting game.
Pretty sums up my view of protesters in general, heh.
This game would've been better if it had music. I would've rated you higher on the mood department.
What is this, Action 24? (Yeah, AVGN reference.)
It's a glorified pinball + Arkanoid hybrid.
So, the weight affects the ability to jump. Nice touch.
The fact that the notes play as you shoot bullets is a nice touch.
It's basically Pac-Man, but you play as the Grim Reaper. And the "ghosts" don't actually kill you, but will hinder your goal.
So it's no another generic space shooter. The more you're trigger-happy with those shots, those bullets will always backfire at you.
So I have to go through this game blind... literally.
It's Flappy Bird on crack. Nuff said.
"Hey, instead of the typical spike traps, why not a typical vampire weakness?" Brilliant.
Glad I punched the crap out of the penguins and won.
Wish you could add the Humor category, since I got a laugh out of this.
I'd wish you'd make it into a full game, coming from a seasoned VN maker like me.
When the second level started, the railway starts to "glitch", but that doesn't affect the gameplay whatsoever. Guess it's a unique take on the "the worse it is" part.
Sucks that you didn't implement shooting in 8 directions instead of four. But that will wait in a future update, right?
Well, I thought this was related to the Mel Brooks film (but with the "s" at the end instead of "z"), but this involves invading planets, so...
Why does the title screen remind me of Kantai Collection?
It's another game with @DDRKirbyISQ on the OST. Insta-5.
So it's like Pac-Man, only that gobbling more pellets makes you slower.
Can be just sit back and remind ourselves that the BGM is highly reminiscent of Darude - Sandstorm?
OK, the game is in Portuguese, but that didn't stop me from playing it, with all the icons that explain that this should go there.
To think that one could make a multiplayer game inside an engine clearly meant for visual novels is nothing short of impressive.
I really like how the browser version blends seamlessly with the itch.io page, so this gets a 5 in the graphics department..
Please, for the love of God, separate the OS builds instead of compressing them into one file. This will make things easier.
Bonus point for making sounds out of your mouth.
Nice use of both the literal and metaphorical interpretations of the theme. The writing could receive a few touch-ups (like typos); but overall, this is fine.
A novel take on Asteroids, if I say so myself.
This games is rated M for Manly. Also, nice reference to the NES Silver Surfer game in the game over screen.
Spikes? In an inflatable castle? That earns a 5 in humor.
This takes me to a time when I was a gullible little fellow and unknowingly downloaded viruses. Now I steer clear of suspicious files and sites.
Beat the game! I can't resist those cute kitties!
Loved this short work as a visual novel fan. Guess there are some things that need to be sacrificed in order to have a good memory of a beloved one.
It's a refreshing take on Sokoban.
@royocup: Sorry, I forgot to make my itch.io page public. I've just done it now.
You nailed the OS part accurately. Plus, the gameplay is as simple as it should.
The audio sells the entire thing for me. About your concerns regarding the appropriateness to the theme, I personally say it's appropriate enough.
Reminds me of the days when I had to deal with the inventory in Diablo II.
I love the hand-drawn graphics, but I'd advise that you refine them because I can see black borders around them. Otherwise, good game.
This is a simple yet novel concept. Wish you can add more levels if you plan to expand upon your game.
As a retro game enthusiast and collector, I can relate to this game very much.
It's Crazy Taxi, but with a school bus.
Sorry, but I'm rating a 1 in Audio due to the inappropriate music.
Definitely the start of a more-polished game.
Visual novel fan here.
Tackling Alzheimer's and other forms of memory anomalies is a good take on the theme. Running out of space in the brain can have disastrous circumstances.
For a game that is really polished and weighs at 500 MB, I best it in less than 5 minutes. Regardless, I commend your efforts, and I hope you can expand on that.
Nice. A literal interpretation of the theme.
Tetris + a typical RPG inn, with a nice rendition of Korobeiniki.
Aw, them cute lil' suns.
Great. You tackled several situations where one can run out of space like I did.
The way "Climate Change Wins" is voiced makes me want to add a "Fatality" sound bit after that.
Another game that feeds on computing nostalgia. Glad I didn't fall for those pop-up ads.
It's interesting to see a visual novel where one is not just running out of space, but also of time. There's this sense of emergency that I can sense from the mood alone.
This game reminds me of Comix Zone for the Sega Genesis.
It's fun for what it currently is, so you need to add more levels and variety. Also, there needs to be more objectives than to harvest certain candies. There also needs to have a bonus time attack mode, where it's all-you-can-eat.
This game is almost automated. Just one press of the key or click of the mouse and watch as the chain reaction hopefully meets the goal. Nice job.
This is a great pick-up-and-play game; you just need to know how to fire those arrows. This is not Contra or Metal Slug.
Feels like a chaotic version of DDR.
@travh98, as indicated in the description, it's a kinetic (a.k.a. linear) visual novel for now. The completed Global Game Jam version might have a choice at the end.
@stephenwhoskins: Unfortunately, I am not an artist. I am more of a narrative designer.
This is a well-polished game. Expand on it.
While I am yet to get the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 remasters, this game will do for now. A good suggestion: Implement gamepad controls.
It's the classic whack-a-mole formula that gets me.
Good to see an NES game. Instantly downloaded the ROM for late play on actual hardware.
This can have potential as an arcade-type game.
The game becomes a breeze once you figure out things. And it's nice that you draw upon Ukrainian traditions.
In the words of the Angry Video Game Nerd, this game is definitely not buffalo diarrhea.
I gave the graphics a 5, since the hand-drawn cutout approach to the 2D graphics seems strangely appropriate for this game.
Good game, but I need to rate it.
The scythe's hitbox could be improved a bit more.
There are two things that can be improved here. One is the collision detection on the walls in the area where the mushrooms can be harvested, since more often than not, I am going against an invisible wall. The other is the walk cycle of the player character (though I understand you didn't want to add animation frames due to time constraints).
Furthermore, no matter the day, golden leaves always spawn at the lower-left. Maybe you intend them?
This game is fun. If you choose your powerups well and accumulate money from selling off crops, watch as the rest of the game becomes a joke.
It has potential as an arcade game. And like what @fallcresthero suggested, implement high scores.
Why does this game remind me of the flaming hoop minigame from Circus Charlie?
This is a fun sniping game. But due to how randomized some objective-based fruits are, I sometimes had difficulty sniping at some fruits, especially if they are further away and are small.
Though there is no way to rate this game, I would rate it 4/5.
Besides knowing what game this is clearly inspired from, this game is clearly well-polished.
It's a quick game, and thus you can master it in a few tries, unless the dreaded RNG is implemented here.
The weapon and armor drops are highly randomized; so in one playthrough, I had difficulty with the boss, but in another, I've whooped the boss with ease. Plus, I would advise ditching the tank controls and go with a more intuitive control scheme.
This game is too addicting that I gave it a 5.
A novel take on the theme... harvesting annoying pop-ups.
A narrative-driven organ harvesting game with Mr. Socko as the imaginary companion... I wonder how this got made in the first place. But still, it's great.
Nice, a Game Boy game. I'll download the ROM and enjoy it on real hardware.
This is the type of game you can leave on while doing your work, and you won't be penalized for anything.
Ah, another visual novel for LD 52. As an experienced visual novel creator who also made one for this jam, there needs to be more polish, but I still commend your efforts; and I really like the twist you did at the end.
I agree with the others here. The mechanics need to be clearer. Gameplay would be intuitive if I would drag and drop two crops.
While I didn't get to accomplish all the tasks, the general look and feel of this game is more than enough for me to score a 5.
I gave your graphics a 5 because of the usage of the desktop... and because the cat is adorable.
This has the look and feel of an arcade game, and I'm thankful I have a controller ready.
In the words of the Angry Video Game Nerd, this game is definitely not buffalo diarrhea.
Somehow, I can imagine the song "Mosquito" by DJ Aligator playing in the background.
The colors really enhanced the mood.
The thought of combining a racing game and a harvesting game is a novel idea.
I gave the graphics a 5 because it is entirely hand-drawn, as I see it.
A fun pick-up-and-play game.
What a novel take on the theme... using the game's window as a limited space. This is definitely leaning on the fourth wall territory.
@robobarbie: This was actually in the cards from the beginning. An LD entry whose story will be completed in another game jam is bound to have cameo appearances from the previous MC and heroine of another LD entry whose story is completed in another game jam.
@edearth: Thanks for writing that insightful comment. Because I was pressed for time, the ramifications of trauma-triggering spaces never crossed my mind. I'll take your critique to heart when I write the second half and give a much-deserved epic finale for our couple.
@aglou: I'm sure I'll address your concerns, like what @edearth expounded above.
Things sure take a darker turn, isn't it?
Since you've commented on my game, I checked yours, and I understood how psychologically dark it is. But your writing will help me improve mine, as I will finish my game, Occhiolism, this month.
Nice. Another NES game.
I love the fact that you took the theme and interpreted it as "limited disk space". Surely, with the hex code you gave, it can be ported to pretty much anything nowadays.
Another NES game in LD. I appreciate efforts like this.
Snake + shooter. Who would've thought?
Even if this game's difficult as balls, I'll still give it a 5.
Good that you're using Ren'Py as your engine. While the UI could use some polish, I appreciate your efforts in making this.
This game may be frustrating, but it still has simple instructions. A 5 for innovation.
Yes, I suck at this game. But I'll give the graphics a 5 because it's nicely hand-drawn.
A novel take on the theme, and is fun to play. Kudos.
I admit I'm too forward with my answers. But still, a great game.
Since this is an obvious MGS parody, I recommend some MGS music while playing.
A fun little space-shooter-type game. This has potential.
A more challenging take on Sokoban. Not only do you have to push boxes and get to the exit, you also have to go against the floodwater.
It's definitely Getting Over It but with a die instead of a man in a pot with a pickaxe.
A well-done bullet hell game. Will recommend this to a friend who likes these shooters.
A good beat-'em-up, with graphics straight out of a cartoon.
I thought it would be a visual novel, but then the Undertale-like mechanics appeared. Nice job.
When I approached this game, the first thing that came to mind is compatible geography. No one in their right mind would place a desert right next to a snowfield, for example. And I'm happy I passed all the levels in one sitting.
It's a clear mashup of two games. Polish the graphics and you're golden.
I scored your game a 5 in graphics, because it's adorable.
This game is ripe for expansion into a full-fledged fighting game, with the ring-out mechanic a la Soul Calibur.
You turned the "safe space box" into an essential platforming mechanic. Good job.
A novel take on Tetris. Hopefully, someone from The Tetris Company notices your talents.
Maybe, make an actual Game Boy ROM out of this?
Ah, a collection of minigames. A great concept.
I like how the game encourages you to manage your handheld inventory to expand that limited airspace. Good job.
It's quite charming for its short length.
A visual novel with some minigames. Pretty simplistic, but gets the message across, and it's clear that this game was made with honest feelings.
Nice. It's been a while since I've seen a game made with an early version of RPG Maker.
A really poignant story about interacting with otherworldly creatures. I don't consider this a horror story, it's more like a slice-of-life modern fantasy story.
A novel take on Sokoban.
It's still Pong. Everyone not living in a cave knows how to play it.
I really like the graphics on this one.
This is one of two games I've seen on LD so far that have the shrinking application windows as a gameplay mechanic. The other is...
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/54/windowkill
And both are excellent.
As someone who has played Time Crisis (yes, quite different from Virtua Cop), it was easy to get used to the gameplay. Just a little bit more polishing and you have an arcade-worthy game in your hands, complete with a light gun.
@ugly-robot:
Well, this game is the third and last of a series of games under the collective umbrella of "The Hizzokahpolis Chronicles", so if you want to, you can play Bittersweet Harvest (LD52) and Occhiolism (LD54) to understand much of the context (and also the cameos).
And regarding the core messages, you've nailed it re: acceptance and being supportive to others. There's also the core message of "no place on earth is a utopia/dystopia; it's what you make of it", which is pretty much associated with the villain (slight spoiler alert).
@zhennaperks: Basically, I first wrote and coded the first act during the length of NaNoRenO, then waited for LD55's theme so I could integrate it into the second act. If a different theme were selected, the story in the second act would be a little different (and the act title would also depend on the chosen theme), but the ending would be still positive.
A good, relaxing 3D game that doesn't take up too much storage space? That's not what I expected, but I commend your efforts.
This is especially heartwarming, especially to those who have lost their pets. And even those who have lost an actual loved one can feel this game's sincere feelings.
This seems like a polished game, ready for release on Steam etc. with just a few tweaks here and there.
Charming and humorous, just the way I like it.
The graphics are unique. I think I've never seen someone implement a 2D newspaper cutout style in an LD/game jam game before.
I got the JoJo reference at the end. That alone earned a 5 in humor for me.
Interesting premise, unique gameplay based on analysis of words. The thing I suck at is drawing the pride symbol.
A Game Boy game means it's an automatic 5 for me.
Convinced every crew member to not summon the Kraken. Nice job on the game.
It's a nice rhythm game. Too bad my mechanical keyboard couldn't keep up with the rhythm.
I rated this 5 across the board, not just because it has polished graphics and gameplay, but is also incredibly satiric of the whole gacha system that's been milked to death.
Rated it a 5 on all fronts, but why a crossdressing maid? Maybe it's a barely-disguised fetish?
Combining the mechanics of DDR and Elite Beat Agents was a stroke of genius.
I wish you can continue the story, since the story gets more delightfully absurd. An absurdist comedy visual novel needs to be finished. This comes from a fellow visual novel developer.
As a fellow visual novel developer, your game should have more polish. But still, nice job.
While this has the hallmark of a horror game, I can't complete it due to the really slow pace, especially when I'm fining the daughter's grave.
Translating the premise of the Pied Piper into a game makes the game all straightforward, even without the instructions.
If you have a drawing tablet lying around, this is the best way to play this game.
Everything about this game is cute.
The effort you took to make this game for a portable console that's not the Game Boy or PSP is nothing short of amazing. I gave this game 5s across the board.
@menacingmecha I did insert a gameplay aspect of the Critter Cubes in there. You will notice that besides enhanced stats, all characters have increased critical hit rates during the boss battle. I had to make do with RPG Maker 2000's limitation of no positive status effects.
@happytrollangus: Glad you liked this game. I already rolled out Episode 1 of Lily Adventuresses!, which is a fully fleshed-out game with 3-5 hours of play time and has some connections with this game (after all, both occur in the same world), so go check it out.
@wendel-scardua As I explained in one of my recent posts about this game, I cobbled together a list of names from various sources, making sure they would fit the settings of my games. Since this is a fantasy game, combining mostly European and native Filipino names is fine with me, as it draws from many Western and Eastern fantasy influences, as well as my native Filipino influences. Heck, the prologue's quest was inspired by a real-life incident, which you can read here: https://www.philstar.com/nation/2024/01/11/2324875/husband-destroys-ofws-travel-papers-cell-phone-naia
Looks like this is the only NES game for LD56, based from my itch.io search. Good effort.
I like the hand-drawn feel of the game, like a simple idle game like this is given this much artistic integrity.
This is definitely a fun take on the typing game, where your vocabulary knowledge is challenged. Hope you can get a full version on Steam or such, with more language packs than you can shake a stick at.
This is definitely a fun take on the typing game, where your vocabulary knowledge is challenged. Hope you can get a full version of Steam or such, with more language packs than you can shake a stick at.
Twisted, alright. With freaking cockroaches! I fear those insects, but this twist doesn't hamper my scoring.
Man, this is such a black comedy take on Frogger.
If you're used to action-platformers such as the Mega Man games, you'll obviously know the pattern of the hand attacks.
Graphics remind me of Mega Man Legends, and the character design really caught my attention.
Too bad you excluded it from voting. As a fellow appreciator of retro computing, I would give this 5s across the board.
This game really lives up to its title.
This seems to be a humorous jab at how more recent Pokemon games took a dip in quality. For that, I gave a 5 to Humor.
This is one of those "pick up and play" games I commend.
Never in my wildest dreams would I encounter a Miku-themed LD game. I hope that for the full release, you will receive Crypton's blessing.
I recommend that you opt out of Graphics and Music because, as a text-based game presumably made with QB64, this doesn't have both. Otherwise, good game.
Love the cute character design, though the mosquito hitting part takes a little bit getting used to.
Simple and accessible enough. I really get to feel like a giant monster wreking havoc.
This game's short, but it's nothing but heartwarming, coming from a fellow story-driven dev.
At first, I didn't spot the playable ant due to its tiny size, but fortunately, on the second try, I saw it. Thus I was able to make it that far.
Never thought that in my wildest dreams, a homebrew game for the Sega Master System would surface as an LD entry. Great job.
It's a well-polished game, to be honest. You might have to release it on Steam and other platforms, complete with more levels and stuff, down the line.
@kobato-games Yup, I already know of that fact. And because of EasyRPG Player's open-source nature, it won't be long before someone ports RM2K/2K3 games to modern consoles.
@binaryprinciple: I stated that you must download and run EasyRPG Player instead of the default executable, inside the game's folder.
A nice game, but I wish there are respawning creatures, because searching for them, especially in the final stage, is a pain in the rear.
I rated this 5s across the board because of the absurd premise... and of how klutzy the husband is.
This is a great puzzle game, though I did get stuck on the level with the candy cane.
Glad to see another Game Boy game for LD.
A novel take on the concept.
This game really gives off strong bullet-hell (think Touhou Project) vibes.
Being a text-only game, I had to judge the magnate being interviewed and not press him too much at the beginning. But at the end, I exposed his attitude, which isn't all that different from the IRL well-known billionaires.
Good game.
This game has a great sense of humor.
My score was 7717.
I admit, this was kinda creepy, but at least the narration is nice.
If only I would rate this game's Humor 6/5 due to the sheer absurdity.
Yes, this may be a joke game, but it's a joke game done right.
Given that this VN is not quite adherent to the theme, I guess I have to read to the end to find out the two incompatible story genres this story has.
This combination of genres lets players enhance their tactical thinking as opposed to mindless running and gunning.
It's easy to get into if you're a rhythm game fan. Hope you can make this into a full game in the future.
Had this been produced way back when graphics weren't still a thing, this game would have sold thousands of copies.
Combine 2 incompatible art genres. That's something novel.
It's kinda frustrating to complete the objectives due to the somewhat random nature of pinball, but props to you for innovation.
This game is fun. The only complaint I have is the knockback whenever the player character gets hit. Unless this is deliberately done as an homage to Castlevania, please remove it.
Compared to other shmups, this disallows spamming of bullets for a good reason: not destroying the rhythm.
Good game, but I encountered a bug. At some point in stage 6, I was moving up when suddenly, the character walks through the sky and cannot descend to the ground. A bug fix is in order.
Who would've thought someone would make a game with Braille.
This game screams professional quality. Optimize the graphics a bit and it's viable for an eventual Steam release.
I'm sure this game reminds me of Valkyrie Profile.
It's nice that bullet hell has been made more palatable, but I'm thrown off guard by the somewhat unpredictable enemy AI.
