I'm also not much a fan of rythem (or beat 'em up), so-so with cooking, but this is pretty awesome! Nice work!
Awesome game! I really like the combination. My only complaint is that the game doesn't seem to line up with the beat - but it's still fun! Good work!
It should 100% line up with the beat though. Programming wise there shouldnt be any room for error. Even when lagging the game adjusts itself so the beats still hit on the beats. :P
4,5/5 from me, my friend. This is a textbook LD high quality entry. Simple, but fun. I'm not a fan of rhytm games at all, but this one was realy nice. The artyle is outstanding :)
It's not perfect, but man is it fun! Super well executed! So well done for just a weekend of work. I'm very impressed, and I had fun playing.
My only complaints are that it lagged a bit every now-and-then (what can you do!) and the beat wasn't super synchronized with the actual song

Nice game, pretty polished !! It's a shame though that you didn't really integrated the theme to the gameplay, like choosing the ingredient for instance to compose a recipe while keeping up with the rythme. It would have definitly added to your game. Really good work anyway !
Had some performance issues running in browser, but the visuals and audio are really polished! Nice job! :D
The graphics are awesome ! The flow is really good, with the adjustement of diffuclty choose by the player, it is overall a pretty nice entry !

Music, graphics and gameplay are all really well done, couple of adjustments, make the menu system a bit more clear, make the hit sound a bit less loud and obvious (so that the song flows better) and maybe add some flavour text that the fruits/veggies say when they lose a heart(or turnips/radishes haha). Last one is just some polish, but otherwise great job.
Being a fan of rythm games, i made my way to the end (77k score, is it good?). Would like and harder version. Music's really good. keep the good work!!!

Absolutely loved this idea! You blended these genres perfectly.
The aesthetic of the game is super coherent and impressive for a jam game and it looks brilliant.
My only real piece of feedback is that it didn't feel like the beats always matched the music in the background which made me naturally slip up if trying to follow the beat, otherwise a fantastic game, great work! :-)
The concept and visual style are great. But i think the sound effect's volume could be lower? Sometimes it's too noisy for me to catch the rhythm.
Yeah it seems like there is an issue with the syncing, I am currently working on it and will send a fix as soon as I figured it out! =D

It might just be me, but I feel like the notes aren't synced up very well to the music. Other than that, great game! Just needs some more polishing.
the notes come in randomized, but they always hit on the beat, is that it? Or are they not hitting the circle on beat?

I'm not good at rhythm games but I love them and this one is great. I think it's my first 5/5 in Fun category. Also reconfigurable controls would be cool addition, I have small arrow keys so it was a bit harder to play.
will keep that in mind for future updates =)

Really polished! I always love a great rhythm game and this delivered. The art and animations were excellent, the music fit wonderfully, the combo system is clever, I enjoyed cooking for a change! Really great game!

Well executed rhythm game in the sense that I felt the input/indications of how I did are fair. The graphics are fun to look at and the music has a nice easy beat to follow. One thing I did not understand is what the arrows bellow the enemy's health was for. Also, the start of the attack animation was a little distracting making me want to stop to see what just happened since there's like a moment of a flash of black. Other than that now I don't have to play Theatrhythm. :D Nicely done
haha, the arrows below the enemies health indicate a combo. If you hit the inputs in that order, you do more damage and get more points =)
This was a great game in every way! Definitely a highlight of LD41! Amazing graphics, catchy music, great gameplay.
I didn't really notice the fighting game element in it, though. I know what it was: the inputs under the enemy were the combo you needed pull off. The problem was, either I wasn't pulling them off when I know I did it properly, or I was doing them properly but the game didn't tell me.
Loved the art and music. I wasn't sure what was going on until I realised I was using the WASD keys rather than the arrow keys... :P Super polished overall though, really solid entry.

I love the art and how squishy everything is with the beat! I'm normally really bad at rythm games, so I liked that this wasn't too strict on the timing of button presses.

I had a blast playing this, the combo system was a brilliant, lightweight design that allows more skilled players to try to pull off combos but can also be ignored if you're already sufficiently challenged by a level. It also goes without saying the level of audio+visual+gamefeel polish is very impressive, my only critique is I wish there were more track/recipe variety! Awesome game and deserving of a full title. Could also be a good mobile port using swiping instead of button input.

Rhythm game, a cooking game and a fighting game all in one... It sounds so dumb, but the result is so awesome! Presentation wise one of my favourite games I have tested so far. Also love the music, really spot on and makes the game, very impressive for the time.
Great game! I really enjoyed it (made me play it multiple times.) I really like the aesthetics with cute characters and visuals to match the gameplay. The music is catchy too although I wish the beat and buttons match with the music.

@akusan they should match the music, they are just randomized. Whenever they hit the circle though, they should be on beat.

I wish it had a harder difficulty setting though. It felt a little easy for me (but that's most rhythm games in my opinion).

Top notch entry! Solid graphics/music/gameplay. It did feel a bit off-beat somewhat and some of the earlier levels were quite long. But besides that, this is 1 of the most polished I've seen! :)

I ran into a bug when playing the game where it wasn't registering my keyboard presses. I would recognize I pressed the space bar, but not up or down.
I restarted the game and it registered the arrow keyboard input, but I found it really odd that feature wasn't working initially.
I am not sure I understand the purpose of the space bar. At first I thought it was letting me complete moves, but after reading the description it lets you skip a movement. Why would I want to skip a movement?
The music was good, and the graphics were pulsing with the beat of the music which made it easier to play.

It's easy to get into if you're a rhythm game fan. Hope you can make this into a full game in the future.
@saoi-games you can use the spacebar to execute combos and that bug is pretty weird, havent seen it before.
It works really well if you sway while playing! Brilliant soundtrack, love the sprites (the veggies are so *cute*), really interesting concept. I didn't understand whether it was better to do a meal with a shorter or longer time though, so I just picked the shortest ones with the highest difficulty. I really enjoyed this highly polished experience!
Really nice and polished. The levels (?) were way too long though, so it made this feel only like a rhythm game, leaving the time management and cooking parts out.
Yeah I agree, I should have added more variety, but I was running out of time =/ I'll probably change it up a bit in the post LD version =)

OMG I FREAKIN LOVE THIS. I accidentally stumbled across this while reviewing another game on itch.io and loved the art. The feel of the game, the music, and the theme are on point. For a gamejam, I'm super impressed by how much was able to be polished into this game. Thanks for a fun experience, and great work!

Really great pixel art and I do love the music! The color palette used was also a nice touch. It also looks really polished.
I also encountered the bug where pressing the arrow keys didn't seem to work. I was pressing the right keys but somehow they didn't register and made me miss those few presses. After a while, they worked again.
All in all, I think this is a solid entry. Good job!
Pretty nice! The music feels pretty right and we can feel the beat! My only complain would be that it feels almot solely like a rythm game (the rythm part being way more prominent)

Great art and music, lots of polish and juicy animations! Although I found it got a little monotonous after a while. Would be nice to have some more variety in note types (e.g. throw some 1/16th notes in there as well, or notes you have to hold down for x beats). Also the notes weren't always synced with the music.

I'm not good at these games, so I got 5475, but it was really fun. I did seem to be experiencing some lag from time to time though in the browser version that made it frustrating because it would change up when the beat was supposed to hit. I'll try again on the downloadable version. Love the mashup, and the songs didn't get too repetitive, I just wish the "you hit the beat" sound was more melodic with the music.
The style is really good! the art and music is well made and works well together!
Had a couple problems though. Idk if it's just the web player, but sometimes it wouldn't pick up my input. Also the sound that plays when you hit a note is waaaay too long; for a rhythm game, you want a short, sharp sound to play when you hit a note, so the player gets perfectly timed feedback for their hit. A longer sound without a very evident transient at the start makes the feedback less accurate.
Those are some more minor problems though and I really like the concept though, interesting mix of genres and well polished.
My final score was 49975! This game was really cool. The difficulty picked up quickly, but the art, sound, and music kept me dialed in. I appreciate that each arrow had its own color, so I could still know which arrow to press even when the notes got too fast to see. A frustrating thing was when the level ended, and there was another note on its way I was ready to press, but the level ended before I could.
Amazing graphics and overall polish on the animations! It really elevates the rhythm gameplay.
I would probably have liked a music sound instead of the attack sound, and while the hits you were supposed to do were kinda on beat they didn't really correspond to anything that was happening in the music otherwise - would be very cool if it followed some melody and had Up being higher notes and Down lower etc.
This is a really well polished and fun to play game! The music is insanely good and doesn't get old while playing, the sound effects work very well, (although i would consider shortening or softening the sound when hitting a note and also adding a small sound to make hitting a note perfect apparent), the art is REALLY good to look at (especially the cute girl), and it is easy to play without prior experience. Really nice game!
The game is really well executed, the genres mashed up well. I did not understand the UI very well, if there was some kind of levels, or some arcade stuff, i dont know :D besides from that, one of the better entries!
This turned out really cool. I'm sure other people have mentioned that the beat doesn't seem to line up with the song, but that adds a bit of extra difficulty, whether intentional or not :p A little variation in the SFX would be welcome, but overall the art style & music are great. Good job!

I really dig rhythm games, and you've done a marvelous job there ;) The music is great, gameplay is neat, visuals are quite cute, congrats! Only issue I've had could be some input lag from time to time, which is probably only from my side ;)
AY NICE, that was really good!The graphics and the nice beat made for a really groovy experience. I will say though with the higher difficulty orders, its a little lack luster. Mostly because it just takes a looong time rather than be more difficult beat map to follow.
Aside from that critique, this is a dope entry!

Nicely done. This was super cute, fun and well polished. I didn't fully understand the choices at first, but the core game play was easy enough to understand. If you continue with this, I'd recommend controller support and mirroring keys, so WASD act the same as the arrow keys. Great game though :smile:
I'm looking forward to saying I played this back when it was a Ludum Dare entry after it comes out on Switch.

This was funny. Great concept and I love the art. We are using GM and Aseprite :) And it is great to see what all can be done with this tool set. Really nice entry, can still feel the beat in my head :) Good job
The end was unexpectedly difficult Haha good work overall, could be really cool full game with some more contents and new features to make it a bit less repetitive, the idea to mix fighting and rythme game is pretty inspiring, nice work !
