Most heroic game of golf I've ever played! Great difficulty curve, new concepts introduced gradually, overall really fun game!
Ugh dps standing in the fire again. :p
As a healer main, this hurt in my everywhere :p Awesome!
Great little physics game, love the idea and execution! Congrats!
Thanks everyone for the kind comments! :D Looking back it might've been an idea to mix up the PICO-8 palette using the secret colors to allow a slightly clearer visual style! And obv not try cram too much stuff in each room! Have added a post-compo version which includes binary downloads and another web version, contains a few fixes, layout changes and tweaks that make things a _little_ bit easier, but still preeeettty difficult!
Cheers once again to everyone who played! :D
Awesome! Nice clean visuals, straightforward gameplay with a decent difficulty curve! Reminds me of agar.io a little.
Very atmospheric! Lovely bullet effects and nice concept!
Neat little mechanic, but quite short and surprisingly difficult. With a few more levels to gradually raise the difficulty it'd work pretty well. Like how the charge slowed down time, but it also seems to kill your jump momentum which felt a bit clunky. Pretty cool!
Pretty cool! Good base for a game, could see it adding more stuff happening to manage the ship (boarding parties, fires etc.). Liked how the systems all affected things (particularly the lights affecting status indicators). Only complaint was it did get a bit repetitive, but great work for a first LD game!
Nice! Mashup Works pretty well and was pretty easy to pick up once you get going! :D
This is soo annoying I love it :D Great mashup, love the fact you added a full story and everything. Surprisingly challenging but goals are fair
Fast paced, lot of quick tactical options too! Got to wave 7 before it all went wrong :D
Hah! Took me a solid minute to even get to the 1st checkpoint :p Controls felt a bit slidey, but once y'get the hang of it it's easy enough. Great idea and excellent visuals
This is fairly nuts :D
You're a monster for putting the default responses on decline/repeat :p You know that right? Fun little game!
Cute! Work's pretty well too
@GhostRunners25 - After you get all the fairies it tells you to visit the 'boss door', which is the room near the bottom of the map to the left of the room with two fairies in it. The door to the north should open and let you face the boss! I could've probably made this a bit clearer, and the door itself is obscured by the stat bar as well. Might fix this in a later release!
@AVAVT Yeah rhythm games really need input + audio lag calibration. I might try adding this in a post-jam version if I've time!
@evandowning Yeah I got that a few times - the knockback has a few bugs on it, and I might add a more generous invincibility timer to avoid that situation, as currently you're only invincible during the knockback, which is currently quite fast!
@caeonosphere ugh I'm terrible at level design! :p Hence the last room where I just jammed everything into one room as I ran out of time! There's still a huge chunk of potential map space I didn't use, but didn't want to make the game toooooo long without implementing checkpoints!
Thanks for all the great comments everyone! :D
Yeah there isn't any penalty to pressing the key outside of the hit timing, and I didn't code in a way of handling keyboard character repeat systems either, so it's quite easy to game :p Easy enough to fix in a future version if I've time, or do another pico8 Rhythm game
(Also as some folk have discovered, there's a debug cheat left in that teleports you to the boss door, which is mostly useless but handy for a couple of quick shortcuts!)
@impbox yep I found out about stat() only _after_ I'd finished so that's how it's getting done next time :p The synchronising only really works if there's no input/audio lag on your system and you're able to get it running at a consistent 60 (which was a _baaaad_ idea :p). The button issue is I presume btnp() doesn't handle OS repeat characters, so just needs to handle that via btn() + deltas.
Really cool! Took me a while to figure out what I was doing, but after that was a great set of puzzles!
Tasty words, would dine here again
Love it! Great mashup, visuals are excellent, found the initial map a bit awkward to get around in but once y'get the hang of it it's a neat idea!
Can attest: I went vroom :p
Cool! Gorgeous looking thing and I like the idea! Took a bit of time to get used to the controls but after a while it's fairly clear how it all works! :D
Great little idea, executed really well too! Love it :D
Had some performance issues running in browser, but the visuals and audio are really polished! Nice job! :D
Fantastic take on the theme :D Great wee toy, hilarious :p
Absolutely gorgeous little exploration game! Great level curve (And the final moving-block section is crazy :D). Would love to see more!
King of the sea! VERY polished little game. Big game level, excellent mechanics... Biggest complaints I have are it's not immediately obvious what some of the upgrades actually do (And I'm still not sure what gave me the ability to bypass the current - suspect it's the beard?) and a few annoying dead-ends-unless-you-have-the-ability here and there, but beautifully polished and fun little platformer. Top job all of ya! :D
Gorgeous little game, fantastic artwork, although didn't fully fit on my screen (Running Chrome at 1440x900) so had to fiddle a bit to actually even see the bottom chests. Simple and easy to play, could've done with a bit more difficulty though, never seemed to be in much danger. Music got a bit annoying after a while as well.
Oof! Difficulty ramps up at 14, but great simple mechanic, excellent learning curve, good variation of puzzles and a unique take on the theme. Congratulations on the win! :D
rosa89n20: Yeah, too many drills like that and you pretty much have to start again - Didn't have time to figure out a better way of handling it. Might update with a Reset button when I've time
Thanks for all the comments, hope ya'll enjoyed it! :D
mortus: That's pretty much how my runs end up as :p A barely moveable deathtrap that can no longer thrust enough to stop falling, blasting a path through everything below until I usually hit about 8 exploding rocks and it all ends horribly :p
popogames: The code is horrendous! :p As expected there's not a shortcut I didn't take code-wise, and there's some hilarious patches to stop things melting (There's a very good reason why exploding rocks don't trigger other ones causing chain reactions - The entire game basically explodes at that point and Unity starts weeping)
eldog: Oversight on my part! Fired up a Linux build that's now available, so if Unity's exporter's up to stuff it should be all good!
Thanks again everyone for the comments! :D
Mildmojo: Well you've beaten my record :p (1230 odd). Yeah heat increases the deeper you go, so you end up having to pretty much constantly fit coolant towards the end. Really wanted to get a boss in around 1000m or so, like you reach the core and have to battle the Devourer while staying above a lake of lava, but was never goin' to have time to fit all that in :p
Almost: Yeah, Unity's physics goes a bit mad when you suddenly add a new collider to a physics body. I pondered destroying part of the surrounding area when you level up as a last resort, but didn't get it in.
Ditto: I had various revisions of the controls, the last thing I wanted to increase is the effect more engines has on turn speed - As it stands the code is something like turnspeed = (engineCount - totalPartsCount) * someValue, so it can only get worse or remain as it is, which towards the end results in something which barely turns at all. Didn't get time to change this to something a bit more fair, alas
Caranha: Yeah. I left the game over/menu screens till the end (Hence why they're basically some text with a backdrop) so a high-score table was dropped. Also originally I'd planned to actually have an ending, but in the end it just became an endless-digger.
Thanks y'all for the ratings and the comments :D
ethankennerly: Yeah, I got a bit carried away with the glowing effects, and ore *can* spawn in the magma blocks, which results in a big glowing mess that could be money or could be a horrible explosion and is in fact both.
radmars: Bit of input state bleed I think, The Laser also stays on if you level up while firing it, but I believe I removed it overheating. Think I left the Devourer still moving when you're in the shop by accident too - Pretty much 80% of the bugs are the levelling system :p
200 Ratings! Thanks to everyone that voted and enjoyed the game! :D
Easily one of the most additive games this Jam. Excellent presentation & audio, fantastic selection of weapons (Even the laser doesn't feel too OP because it usually lands you in a pile of mines/dinosaurs). VICIOUSLY frustrating difficulty though :p But the quick restart time is spot on to get going again. 5/5
Nice! I've made 48hr rhythm games before and it's no easy task! Excellent music and great spin on the ol' Bit Trip Running idea. Congrats! :D
Bonkers little shooter, nice graphics & range of weapons too! Only main complaint is the controls're a bit slippery, but still managed a score of 30 odd :D
Nifty little game! Finished it but suspect I missed something on the last level :p Easy enough concept to grasp and room for lots more on top should you guys continue. Bonus points on the audio for blending between two tracks :D Could've maybe benefited from a few more obstacles, maybe a moving enemy, but as it stands great little package!
It certainly squeaked :p On the plus side, that's one of the nicest score counters I've seen so far :p
Played for 351 seconds, but by that point I was devouring cash! :D Nifty wee game, would like to see it taken further!
Massive environment and looks great too! Managed 10 totems before fell down a pit :p Camera & Ledge-grabbing a bit buggy, but loads 'o work's gone into this. :D
Fantastic example of the ol' light/mirror puzzle. Assets perfect and well polished for the time given, controls simple and well explained with good feedback and audio on the reflectors. Puzzles well implemented with the 2 different types of reflector. Overall style very good - Easily one of the best games of the competition. :D
Pretty cool! Environment's awesome and decent size of variation too. Made it to the boss before getting bullet-pwned :D
Wham! Finished it :D Actually quite a nifty little isometric game. Takes full advantage of the complete wonkiness of figuring out depth worthy of the classic filmation games! Controls're a bit fiddly, but not impossible, and letting the enemies restore energy was a massive help. Nice! :D
Surprisingly fun for such a simple concept.
713 kills! Lasted 418 seconds, after 400s things get a bit... crazy :p Nice little shooter with a good upgrade system!
Nice little game with a good learning curve. Even a little final boss (Nice touch at the end too!), overall? Pretty cool! :D
Nice little recreation! Oxygen spawn seems a bit unfair though, can never find any! :p
Shame there isn't more, what's there is really nice and well polished - The beginnings of a decent little platformer - Reminds me a bit of Konjak's work. Controls a bit funky, but then too used to WASD :p
644! Nice simple game, like the movement of the worms.
Competent little minin' game! Did somethin' quite similar! :D Decent progression, looks great and good sound 'n music too!
57 loot overall! Nifty idea, good memory mechanic. Would've been cool to see new obstacles in the other levels.
Lovely little minimalist game. Great twist on the theme too! Very well presented and all round pretty cool! :D
Managed it with not a Dwarf lost! Excellent work makin' an actual turn based strategy with 3 maps in such a time. A little more visual feedback and UI polish'd be awesome! Awesome music too! :D
Fairly promising Shmup, nice detail on the sub lighting as well and some nice abyssal graphics! Good place to keep going and add more to.
Like the idea! Only main complaint is I find the transition between the two's a bit too slow.
Darnit! I've never had this much trouble aiming a caterpillar's backside! :p Crazy little game and neat idea, decent visuals and audio too!
Nice! Love the sneaky red herring on B6 too :P Great little game.
Little twist on the ol' block-pusher. Had to do a bit of physics-nudging to get some blocks unstuck but managed. Not bad! :D
Gorgeously presented and wonderfully atmospheric, if a little short, sweet and linear.
Crazy difficult, specially once the blinking blocks show up, although I realised too late you can brake :P Pretty fun though!
Nifty little twist on the ol' laser/mirror puzzles. Puzzles a bit basic - Lot of waiting around waiting for blocks to be destroyed, but very well presented!
Love the look, decent little plate-spinner. Would've loved a bit more score feedback like a timer. Original idea too!
13938 (Accidentally threw like 4 eggs in)! Crazy difficult and a bit clunky but managed it once I got the hang of it. Decent go at the whole awkward-simulation concept though! :D
I... just fished up 'Call Me Maybe'. And my fishing is being impeded by some katakana. Bonkers concept, but looks cool and can't argue with a nice fishing game :D
Actually quite atmospheric & creepy, specially the music! Neat little idea.
I WIN! Dear god it's like sweet bro and hella jeff: The Experience.
Gorgeous little demake, seriously needs to be turned into a full-on adventure. Excellent implementation of stealth mechanics with Rogue-like movement. Bravo!
At least managed to kill a few Robo-sharks :D Nice little moody Roguelike! The lengthly intro did bug me a bit but only after the first death where I didn't know what I was doin'. Second attempt went a lot better :D
1:18! Gorgeous presentation, interesting take on the theme too. Gets pretty difficult but never felt unfair.
Good Lone Survivor vibe from this, and loving how detailed that walk animation is :p
147 seconds and 1343 points! Interesting dual-gameplay idea :D
Managed about 100 coins before dying. Pretty cool though! Missing a bit of polish but there's a decent amount of fun in here!
Nice simple one-button gameplay, nifty! :D
Making the things that kill you the same colour as the pickups, and the things that don't kill you red seems an odd choice, but the rest is really well put together. Simple and well polished!
Great idea and well presented, but have similar issues with the difficulty :p Quite fiddly to push the balls out.
Bonus points for a fully voiced tutorial :p Nifty little game, once you get the hang of it. Only main thing is I'd've liked the dot to move a bit faster :D
Madness :P Can only manage just over 30 seconds of hate-spew. Great twist on the theme! :D
49! Very flappy :D Looks gorgeous too!
*Nom* *Nom* *Nom* Crazy little game, love the animations :D
Bah! Best I managed was 82! Awesome little game, easy to play and very well presented! Nice one :D
Impressive to try and do a sort've classic survival horror and pull it off! Controls're a bit weird but got used to them quickly, nicely done! :D
Nifty little game, and who doesn't love jetpacks? Good base for something, worth keeping at to see where it goes!
Like a sped-up Postal :p Bizarre but well presented. Music's ace too!
17298 before I was violently eaten in what might be the most original concept I've played so far. Bravo! :D
Nice Atari-2600-esque minimalistic style. Thought the main character was a bit slow but the jetpack in level 2 helped speed things up a bit :D
Only managed 4800 alas. Fairly straightforward game, well presented. Pretty decent though!
Fantastic little game! Second level pumps up the difficulty a bit - They barely got passed the entrance in the first level :p Assets well polished, shooter mechanics solid. Only complaints are the cells can get lost in a mass of enemies and turret effects, and wasn't fully clear what the turrets actually did - Even after deploying them. Great final product overall!
*Hugs* *Pow*
Nice little drivin' shooter! Managed to find 20(+) bits and make it back, got completely lost tryin' to find the ship though :p Wouldn't say no to a compass/minimap!
Visuals and detail in the animation is gorgeous. Nice 'n simple - Would easily play more of this with a bit more depth to it! :D
Impressive, creating effectively a sort of Dungeon Keeper/Dwarf Fortress-esque idea in such a small time. Starts off a bit slow though with just the one poor guy digging everything :P, but looks gorgeous!
Found the bone! Fantastically dark and awesome visuals. Nice contained item puzzler. Just missing a bit of audio and it'd be perfect!
Awesome little game :D Looks gorgeous and easy to play!
Interesting idea, although kinda've wasted a few incarnations. Like the visual style too! The audio's good, although the walking noise sounds like a ticking clock which initially made me think there was a timer. Pretty cool overall!
Adorable little puzzle game. Neat spin on the mechanic too!
Ambitious idea, and decent enough. Collision seemed a bit off in places, specially trying to hit the Golem's eye? And a bit more feedback for when you successfully hit would be nice. Pretty lofty goal and reasonably well executed though, congrats!
Love the style of the cube, found moving stuff a bit awkward and might've preferred to turn the cube manually, but that's just me.
Graphics are excellent, but a few things let it down: The sound seemed out of sync a little which made it hard to control. Still managed to win though
Massive Hitman Go influence? But even still - astounding presentation, excellent camera & controls. Nice simple mechanic & some fiendish puzzle design. 5/5.
That was... absolutely excellent.
Not much to the game, but hilarious pixel-art & dialogue.
Couldn't help Wesley though... Poor Will Wheaton...
1349! Reminds me a bit of CastleStorm! Fairly straightforward gameplay & decent visuals!
Excellent.
The mechanic's been done, but the thematic presentation of it is great, and good matching the mechanics & level design to the narrative as well. Puzzle platforming bits are all great too, and visual style's cute to boot. A couple of tricky levels, but a quick reset button helps with that no problems.
Great job!
The cyberspace wireframe world was occasionally a bit tricky to navigate, but picked up the mechanics quick enough. Didn't manage to escape though, couldn't figure out what the switch did in the closed room. Nifty idea though, and interesting dual-gameplay mechanic.
Took a while to figure out what was going on, but after a few cycles I noticed how it worked. The shooting section is pretty tricky (Those turrets are mental :p) but actually quite a nifty take on the theme. Music's fun too.
Gorgeous little runner. Fairly simple but a good spin on the basic idea & implements the theme quite well. Some of the returns are a bit unfair in their spike placement, but the levels are short enough that it's not too much of a bother :D
Pretty cool! Seemed to have to keep remaining my units to attack bases, and got absolutely curb-stomped by about 3 different teams at once :p But very well presented & nifty little RTS idea!
250! Simple enough to grasp, took me a while to master the timing but got a reasonable score in the end. Had some lucky longshots too!
Great visuals, nifty idea, good difficulty, all good!
Nifty little twitch RTS. Have to react quickly for the best advantage, and gets ridiculous later on. Nice simple visuals & easy to understand concept. Nicely done!
2755 points & everyone's either dead or brainslug'd. Interesting little spin on Oregon Trail. Thank god I produced more crew :p Was down to like 1 non-slugged guy at the halfway point.
Bizarre but fun little platformer. Some fairly sadistic level design :p (Running along a set of exploding blocks to a dead end!) & nice particle effects!
Very simple little platformer, but nice visuals. Jumping did feel a bit sticky, but managed to reach the end after a few goes. Good job!
Nifty combat mechanics, good sense of weight to the hits. Nice!
Gameplay's fairly basic but easy enough to understand. Spritework & visuals are gorgeous :D
Pretty impressive little blitz-trading game. Struggles a bit in Pepperflash, but visually nice an impressive! Only thing was took a while to figure out exactly how to get the ships moving between ports - didn't realise you had to map it from node to node. Pretty cool job all round!
Simple enough puzzle platformer. Solved it quick enough. Manage to get the concept and decent level of puzzle design out in two levels, but yeah could've done with more & some better sounds. Nice overall though!
Art' 'n animation's gorgeous but gameplay's fairly repetitive. A bit more interesting enemies 'n levels would help considerably. Also, I take it it's procedural levels? The level select screen just went on forever :p Pretty impressive for 72 hours overall though, congrats!
Fairly basic gameplay, but outstanding presentation & graphics. Would easily play a much larger game of this.
Quite a neat little spin on the box pushing mechanic. Like how each level is connected too :D
Nifty little shooter, very moreish. Sneaky little mechanic for getting around too! Pretty decent little package that'd be worth carrying on with!
Bonkers. :p
Nifty little game, if a bit short. The fire power is a bit OP :p Obliterated the other guardians with it.
Not... entirely sure what's going on, but the graphics are excellent!
Hmm, was it me or was there a bug where the archer wasn't hitting the bats? Ended up dying because of it. Interesting little idea though, very fast paced & great art style & sound!
Love the idea - very unique, and the little pitch change in the sound is brilliant. Puzzles are fiendishly difficult though from the start! Would maybe recommend a slightly fairer difficulty curve to get used to the mechanics but still excellent.
Nifty little idea, and obv work well as a mobile game. Found it quite tricky to aim & click accurately enough while it's scrolling, particularly once it speeds up. Visuals & excellent and like the way the world fills up with detail as it goes.
Retrieve arms from bin.
Interesting, fairly straightforward. Wasn't fully sure how the drones were moving making difficulty a bit all over the place, but like the idea of the alternating difficulty depending on how you do!
Interesting fusion of a schmup and like, Nebulus :D Fairly simple Schump with a reasonable variation of enemies. Like the visual style
Ooof. The last level took a bit of thinkin' till I realised the obvious :p Nice little game & some good mechanics & graphics. Could easily see some more gimmicks to the game too. Good job!
My best score thus far is $3400. Plenty of room for improvement (I usually end up with negative score anyway!)
Re: Difficulty: yeah, I've had several attempts where I've ended up with negative score :p I think I should've introduced pirates over time so you get a minute of freedom first.
Right now the best strategy seems to be loading up on as much cargo as possible and trying to make at least one delivery to get the combo bonus :P
If I've time in the next few days, I might release a post-jam tweaked version for anyone interested. Main fixes would be:
- Removing speed limit when delivering cargo to its destination (i.e. Cargo no longer explodes if it hits its destination too fast) so you can just slam dunk it home.
- No pirates in first minute, then more pirates as time increases.
- Fix ship collisions with planets as it gets stuck sometimes too easily.
- Maybe reducing one-hit kills for Pirates shooting cargo/giving Cargo 'Health'.
- Maybe reducing penalty to $50.
Then at least you still get the challenge of moving stuff about & dropping it off before everything goes horribly wrong :p Will see what I can get in the coming week or so.
And thanks everyone so far for playing! :D
Ah well, not as good a result as Hot Diggity (Which was crazy well recieved) but I'm happy enough, and awesome that I got 5th in Audio too! :D
Hopefully next time I won't make something so ridiculously hard to play :p Thanks to everyone who played and voted! See ya'll next time!
Excellent. Fantastic use of colour, highly unique mechanic, simple input very well executed and an fair difficulty curve. Easily a 5/5! :D
Neat idea. Puzzles fairly simple but get the mechanic across well. Visuals nice 'n crisp too. Wasn't a massive fan of the music
Well it's aptly named :D Shot lots of things in space! Nice flocking AI too by the looks of it. As others have noted looks like your shield doesn't restore after respawning? But still, nifty base of a game here.
Simple 'n funky little mechanic, and well explained. Gets ridiculous pretty quickly though :p
Nifty visuals (love the hovercraft model), challenge was ok but could've done with health pickups! Overall pretty cool!
Mmmm!
Bonkers little game but fantasticly put together. Only complaint at all is the UI's a bit basic, but everything else is awesome. Congrats :D
Great background art & animation and the concept's excellent too! Seems to be a brief mercy period before the other clones affect you which could've been made a bit clearer? Either way managed about 8 loops before dying. Nifty! :D
Nifty little idea, seems a bit odd to make the obstacles in the sky/road ones asteroids too though. Nice work gettin' three games to work together essentially :D
Little confused at first but got it quick enough. Excellent art style too
Brave to try a full 3D World, so kudos on that. Gameplay a bit simple
Interesting little game. Good presentation around the main game, and the cubic cats are hilarious :p Fairly simple gameplay though, AI of the enemies seemed fairly basic.
Well that was certainly a thing.
Excellent visual & audio design. Very nice little runner, love the design of the ship. Wasn't sure what ramming the spiders did initially, but is very satisfying. Only complaint really is the difficulty curve could do with being a bit steeper - Managed quite a long distance fairly easily
Nifty! Thought it was fairly straightforward at first, then obviously things got ridiculous pretty quickly :D Interesting spin on a nice idea! Could see it workin' well with some smoother Mario Galaxy-esque physics too.
Could've done with a bit of polish on the effects? The blood splat's a bit too weak, and wasn't immediately obvious what the portals were. Like the trick of getting past the big spikey thing using the portals though!
Mm.
It's like Game of Life Inception here :p Tricky but interesting idea. Utterly forgot the rules of Game of Life but still managed to produce a good chunk of Bacteria before they all died :p
Great visual style. Managed to loosely figure out how to change things, but didn't get much further after that.
Need idea. Must've been fun to design the levels for :p Collision's a bit odd when you try and force something into a position it can't do, but overall controls pretty simple! Wasn't immediately obvious which bits to grab to see how to move the shape, but figured it out quick enough.
Fairly short as folk said - Guess it would be interesting to see how the puzzles & difficulty would increase as levels went on? Fairly polished result though!
Simple enough idea & nicely presented. Lots of levels too. With a bit of polish & maybe some more clever interaction between faces this could be quite nifty!
Fairly simple game, nice visuals (Although dunno why you went with Endermen instead of something unique :p). Difficulty could do with ramping up a bit faster, got a bit bored around the 200 mark. Also found the 1-5 key input kind of awkward.
Nifty little puzzle game. Enjoyed!
HACK THE SYSTEM ah pants, caught. Nice simple pixel art style, the guy moves hilariously slowly :P But the gameplay's simple enough and easy to understand once it gets going.
Love the visuals & animations & the audio - all top notch. Mechanic's interesting, but wish enemies did a bit more.
Neat! Has a very Ghost Trick feel to it & a nice take on stealth/puzzle games :P Art is fantastic, as is the audio.
Sneaky (and tricky) level design and an interesting idea, but the performance on Chrome for me seems to fluctuate between fine and horrendously slow? Made precision platforming extremely difficult. Managed the first two levels though. Also the harmful blocks could've been more obvious that they shouldn't be touched, but everything else fairly decent!
Visuals're gorgeous, and even' the simple character is charmingly wobbly. Excellent thematic mechanic that's simple enough to get and drives decent puzzles as it gets harder.
Only complaint is the platforming collisions - Occasionally a bit sticky on the walls. Other than that this is fantastic!
Impressive work! Lots of inspiration from Super Meat Boy by the looks of it, but excellent work managing to fit in a full tutorial & story along with frantically hard platforming. Good job!
Took me a while to realise why you had two 'till I clipped an edge - interesting take :p Best was only 40 though. Surprisingly difficult little runner!
Well that was certainly unconventional :p
40 inches!
Nifty little atmospheric platformer. Reminds me a little of Lone Survivor. Game closed itself when I was fighting the Boss though, wasn't sure if I'd won or it crashed. Nice job overall though!
Ducks could do with a bit of flocking AI to seperate them, they sort've all fuse together when attacking :p Interesting idea though
Lovely art 'n effects, good bit of polish. Got kind of stuck when one of the flying enemies hit me and just sort've wobbled about, but like the Cap 'Merica mechanic!
Phew did it. Awesome game. Visuals are spot on, excellent use of lighting effects and very satisfying to reflect tonnes of beams about the place trying to hit the reflective enemies. Lots of levels and some good puzzly waves, all in all an impressive quickfire little game.
My only niggle is playing on controller the aiming seemed really sensitive. Hardly enough to dull the experience though, excellent work all!
Nifty little idea, could do with the suction being a bit higher, specially when trying to grab enemies. Love the visuals too!
Bah, can't beat the one with loads of chair cannons :p Art's pretty simple but very nicely presented. Lots of polish, plays a like fast-based Tanks game with a good bit of bonkers humor too. Nice job!
Well that's just superb :D Lovely presentation, nice unique mechanics. Found the WASD + space + Mouse controls a bit tricky to handle when trying to wall jump, but overall really good compo entry!
Also cheers to the Button Masher Bros for pointin' me to this one :D
Well that was dark :p
Simple enough gameplay, but the parody presentation is spot on :p Nice one
It's like the Happy Tree Friends got stuck in a 90s console bonus stage!
Gorgeous presentation, controls and view are a little odd but y'get used to them. Gameplay's fairly simple and some of the enemy types add a good bit of variety. Nice work!
9.043.566! And not a cube lost :p
Interesting if simple shooter, the weapon upgrades get hilariously ridiculous but seem balanced enough. Interesting concept too!
Finished it! Controls a bit awkward for me, had to spam w a lot to stay afloat. Has quite some force behind the aiming too! Original idea and visuals decent enough!
26th :D Excellent little thing. Add a few more procedural elements, landscapes 'n music and I'd buy the full version of this :D Only qualm is I don't see how it fits the theme, but as a standalone game I reckon you should keep goin' with it. Music good, sync'd elements good, visual style 'n controls good, challenge good and bonus points for competitive high score!
Utterly impossible for me to land the gits :p Think I managed a record of 1 :p Bonkers idea and nicely presented though.
Controls are incredibly 'floaty', but managable. Crazy for you to try and do funny portal-esque dialogue for the thing too :p But decently done. The voice over could've benefited from some filtering. Well presented though, could do with a few more puzzles.
Nifty little typing game, made it to wave 10 with no hits :D Could do with a bit more words in the dictionary, felt odd typing 'burn' so many times, and the speech bubble covers up the names too :p Side from that, pretty cool!
28! Nice use of the dynamic lighting and interesting 'swapper' mechanic. Is there some procedural generation of the level going on too? Pretty nifty for 30hrs!
Saw this in progress, shame y'missed the compo deadline but still v. impressive!
The slowdown effect ground chrome's flash plugin to a halt but still playable. Music & Art were amazing and gameplay pretty decent too with some nice light puzzling. Excellent job!
Crazy for trying an adventure game-esque thing in 48hr :p Art's gorgeous as always, game's fairly simple but combat system's great, hearkening back to Flashback/Another World.
Also pretty funny :p As good adventure game should be.
Fair simple little coffee-shooter. If I had one main complaint, the point at which the screen scrolls is pretty close to the end, made me worried I was going to walk into the sheep :p
Simple presentation but interesting idea. WASD and Spacebar felt a bit awkward for aiming.
Man I've missed destructable terrain :p The mess I made in level 2 finding the flag was ridiculous. Excellently implemented little platformer.
Interesting mechanic, reminds me a little of that game where anything in darkness is incorporeal. Lovingly presented and plenty to play through as always, just wish the attack reached a bit further :p Walked into those blobs many times trying to hit 'em!
AlfalfaStudios: Should be sound and music? Check yer computer audio settings!
Luke Molnar: Yeah it wasn't 'till the end I remembered Unity has a quick 'n easy cursor replacement too. The mouse kinda fights with the controller input too.
Jeviny: Yep, I call out YHTWTG and J. Kyle Pittman in my special thanks above :D
Yeah I had a bit of a fight with Unity's input again trying to get something that worked. What happens if you use a controller is when you're not aiming with the right stick, it focuses on the mouse position. If there's no mouse, no idea what it focuses on :p (Probably just 0,0)
The menu was like the last thing to go in so it was *very* rushed :p I need to get better a things like menus and end screens because they're always pretty rubbish in my entries, a bit of nice transitions and presentation would go a long way.
As for the how the jam particles were done, I'll explain that in m'post mortem when I get that up. It's a fairly simple effect you can do in Flash or Unity or anything really.
Oh and good catch on the linux url :p Fixed that!
Yeah there's a few fun bugs like that. You can also be outside the ship but it thinks you're still inside so you'll slide along the ground with it :p
I left the Respawn button 'R' in for that reason in case you get stuck somewhere like under the airship or walk off the world since I didn't have time to work in blocking that off. I'm leaving the fixes for small things that aren't working properly (like mouse controls which should be better now!)
Ctrl is the main fire button (unless you change it in the launcher), so it selects menus too, so y'don't need to use the mouse. I'll agree the controls for the menu were a bit rushed, specially if you're using a controller :p
Yeah the hard level isn't really death friendly :P If you unlock the shortcut and are fast enough you're allowed maybe 1 death reasonably ok, but you'll be cutting it close.
Hey all, thanks to everyone who's played, enjoyed 'n rated the game! As always hope everyone had fun this LD and will return in future!
Re: The various physics bugs. Yeah, I actually had exactly this problem last time I did LD (29 I believe) where a multitude of physics and input nonsense made the game utterly unplayable for some people. Think I got it a bit better this time round, but there's a few obvious mistakes this time round (The most egregious being The jumping's totally not framerate independent so bit of a disaster there :p).
I meant to mention too: For anyone interested in how the game was made and whatnot, I did a post-mortem/devlog which you can read 'ere:
http://ludumdare.com/compo/2015/04/21/slam-jam-bakery-post-mortem-devlog/
PHew, made it to the spaceship! The bit after the cool shattering wall is crazy :D Pretty fun little game, decent gravity gun mechanics too!
Brutally tricky platforming :D I managed to get two of the items though, wasn't sure how to get to the Ghost one. Nice mechanic though, some fun little sections with each of the characters. Wish the spikes were a bit more visible, a few of the ceiling spikes caught me off guard :p
Interesting concept for a game, if a little dark :p Gameplay's very simple though.
Awesome visual style, decent (yet challenging) controls and a great little concept. Lateral force on the building explosion seems a bit nuts :p But excellent! Only thing I'd ask for is a bit of leeway in the speed you can safely hit stuff, but other than that top job!
Nice little platformer. Love the hat mechanic :D Controls a little floaty, and you seem to be able to wall jump too. Concept's nifty and visuals pretty cool too!
Nifty little Zelda-esque game. The slash distance is a bit short, tricky to hit things without getting hit yourself. Good variation of puzzles and enemies typical of the genre.
Interesting twist to a tricky little platformer.
Those bombers are really annoying :p Great visuals and nice depressing audio. Game's fairly tricky though, they *really* don't like this little girl :p
Came dead last as United Kingdom with barely any points. 100% accurate simulation :p
このゲームは非常に奇妙である. Fairly simple little side-scrollin' mop-em-up with an original concept. Love the effect of whappin' guys away.
Highest score was 30, but went down to 25 with a few mistakes. Gameplay's simple but tricky to master, think it needs some kind of difficulty where the traffic gets busier as time goes on, but as it stands pretty nifty idea.
Nifty! Don't see many spinning top type games. Love the visuals too. The physics seem a bit crazy fast when getting launched, found it difficult to recover if I made a mistake :p
Nifty little game, tricky though :p Some kind of trajectory helper would be nice. Love how the foxes dissolve too. Extra points in audio for the dizzying array of fart noises :p
Interesting (if bizarre) kind of dual-world mechanic with a spot of stealth on top. Simply presented and easy enough to play. Pretty good!
Nifty little arena shooter. Platforming controls a little odd, and the aiming indicator could be brighter, found it difficult to see where I was aiming. Good job though!
Call something "Rhythm Gunner" and I'm already all over that :p
Awesome idea, even if the game itself is very small. Love how the music changes and the beats change for each weapon. Would love to see this game expanded and turned into a full game. Excellent chiptunage too!
Pretty nifty idea, and nice detail on the ribs :D Those homing balls are incredibly annoying too :p
Love the asthetics of the level design :p And the little letter health pickups that drop. Game's like a simple Cannon-fodder-esque game, easy controls are fairly fun. Kept running out of ink though!
Also, no wonder he's havin' trouble writing. All his books are on pirates and ninjas :p
Awesome presentation, although some paths're obscured by buildings so you can't see if anyone's there :p Took a bit to figure out all the mechanics but they kind've naturally become obvious - How to convert, the penalty of retracing steps. Interesting little blend of concepts!
Absolutely excellent little sidescroller. Great presentation, simple controls, a good variety of enemies. Only complaint I had was the audio was a bit repetitive. Great job!
Got really far (past the button you shoot), then died :P Love the visual style. Gameplay was pretty tricky 'till I learned how to strafe. Pretty neat!
One man's struggle with depression, drugs and psychosis, presented through the medium of Super Mario Bros.
The jump was a bit speedy for comfort though :p
Another fantastic one, this time it's very Overlord/Pikmin-esque. Great presentation, simple gameplay, very fun to play. Only gripe is the difficulty in the later levels. Fantastic job :D
Nifty, like the lighting effects & the movement of the humans. Could *really* have benefited from some kind of Human Radar, often took me quite a while to track down the last guy :p
Excellent as always! Has a nice Necrodancer quality to it. Pretty tricky though. but never feels unfair :p
Near mechanic of eating your own cover. A few bugs in it though (The coin counter never reset so you could skip fetching coins and still get 3 stars, which made it trivial). Nice presentation too
Interesting idea, & bonkers looking vehicle :p Reminds me a bit of Desert Strike. Vehicle Controls were VERY slipperly for me though, made it pretty tough to steer accurately.
Cool! Pretty simple enough, but well presented and good sense of physicality to the animations. The big guys're annoyin' :p
Interesting idea, but a few things let it down. Didn't seem to need the sidescrolling view as y'don't get points and can just dodge the ships. Took me a while to realize you have to click on the humans too. City looks cool.
Excellent visuals & presentation, although the voice acting got annoying pretty fast. Loved the weapons. :P Excellent work for 72hrs!
Combat system's actually really cool & well presented. Graphics're great too! Could've done with a few more enemy varieties, the larger groups of slimes felt a little tedious. Nice twist at the end too :D
Impressive you tried to make a full on RPG in 48hr! Visuals're excellent, and it's an interest story concept. Those watchers're annoying to get around though :p
A simple game gorgeously realized. Animations top notch as always! Thing I most wanted was for each arm to have separate cooldown times.
41 coins! In around 2:40... Really like this, nifty movement mechanics and some good puzzles 'n bonus bits to access once you figure it all out. Sounds're funny too. Really great!
Great presentation and a lovely idea for a Rogue-ish thing. Gameplay's pretty simple and seems to be a lot of luck required, but nicely done!
Impressive visuals given everything's primitives :D Nice tutorial introduces the concepts, good selection of enemies too. Found the city level to be pretty easy just avoiding all the tanks. Nicely done!
Managed 970 before the shooting got ridiculous :P Nifty idea, simple controls & gameplay and some nice effects too. Platforming a bit sticky sometimes, but aside from that pretty cool!
Hah :D Could see it workin' with a timer ala Wario Ware. Loved some of 'em, although wasn't sure about the Salt 'n Pepper one - couldn't seem to manipulate the lid properly.
Pretty cool! Good atmosphere with the minimal style, nice mechanic with the extra lives too.
Always look forward to yer rhythm games :D This one's nice 'nm simple but loads of content for the 48hr time and some excellent steps synced up to the tracks. That last track's crazy hard too :D
46100! Fantastic theme, and well done for doin' a PICO-8 game too! Hilarious game & right smack on theme as well :p
Presentation's gorgeous as always, particularly the walker animations + details. :D Love the 'creep' as a Growing mechanic. Only little gripe is gameplay's a little simple. Love it though!
It's a nifty idea :P Hilariously obtuse and minimalist UI - Could work well as a sort've daft party game
Upload a fix that should make it exit to menu upon beating a boss
Hey all! (Happy new year!) Cheers for playing! Yeah I think I made this one a bit too tricky - the idea is you hit when the ball is really close to you in time with the music, not where the sword swipe is, which I think's confused a lot of people into swiping too early - Entirely my bad there :p Might drastically extend the threshold when I upload it to m'itch.io when I've a second.
Thanks to everyone who played, and hope to see ya next LD! :D
Absolutely lovely! :D (Knew you couldn't resist sneaking a rhythm game in there :p) An impressive collection of little minigames and some very cute art and awesome music as always. Very nicely done!
Neat! Pretty simple and music loop got a bit annoying but physics were nifty & like the idea!
Neat! I'm a sucker for Dungeon Master/Wizardry/Grimrock-y dungeon crawling and it's a pretty good attempt at one. Only bug I had was I think a slime didn't realise it had died 'till I moved but its sprite was still wobbling in front of me. A few more effects for hitting/killing things would've help feedback too. Love the portraits and the art (specially the portraits) though, and WHO IS LEAVING THESE SHIELD-SHAPED DUST PILES EVERYWHERE :p
770m, and took a while before I realised you could collect the flowers. Total score 9640. I like it! Some of the flower placement was a bit unfair, but the difficulty scaled nicely and it was well presented. Reminds me of the recent Rayman games.
Pretty cool and fits the theme. Could do with some hold sections to mix it up, but enjoyed it!
Hah Nice :D Gorgeous game, if a bit simple. Nice little set of puzzles. Music seemed a little too 'epic' for what was going on :p
Hats off this is an impressive amount of Metroidvania for the time given. Enjoyed this loads! (Did you even sleep? :p)
Nifty! Took a few goes to remember what flower has what petals after I've placed it, but like the idea. Lots of nice touches too
