LD30 — Connected Worlds

Heart Star by AdventureIslands 2014-08-25T21:48:00

Great game! The pixel art is awesome and I love the character animations. Puzzles are interesting and sometimes challenging. I like the idea of using the other character as a stepping stone or carrying them. Creates some clever gameplay ideas.

(And yes, you're right, our games are quite similar!)

Blue Rays by KEFIR 2014-08-30T12:48:00

Great transition effect, Quite simple puzzles to solve, but still enjoyable. Only downside is that the connected worlds mechanic and the gameplay itself don't seem very related.

Strange World by pumpkin 2014-08-25T11:58:00

No rating because I'm not on Windows, but I think the "Web" link is supposed to be for a browser-playable version of the game.

World 255 by jimmymcmillan 2014-08-25T11:11:00

Unfortunately doesn't work on Linux for me: "java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: Method org.lwjgl.openal.ALC10.nalcGetString(JI)Ljava/lang/String; name or signature does not match" thrown from com.beefdrippinggames.ld48.Game.init(Game.java:174) in your code.

InfiLoop by komjaur 2014-08-30T13:14:00

It was interesting, but yes, very similar to antichamber. I have a couple of notes: sometimes the trick you're using to reveal the exist is very noticable (I'm pretty sure in antichamber they actually use world portals to the different areas); and I still didn't figure out what the meaning of the eye puzzle was, but just by looking back and forth I got it to work.

Connected Worlds Training Facility by sftrabbit 2014-08-25T11:56:00

Thanks everybody! I had so many gameplay and level ideas that I really wanted to add - too little time! I also really wanted some better SFX and music, but oh well. Maybe next time I'll be a little quicker with the boilerplate libGDX stuff.

Thanks for the feedback!

Connected Worlds Training Facility by sftrabbit 2014-08-25T16:26:00

Thanks everybody. I'd like to keep working on this in the future. Unfortunately the first level was only meant as a training level, while the second level was rushed in at the end. And I agree that the SFX don't really fit!

Also, I also noticed that the sounds are a little delayed with the web version - I'm not exactly sure why that is, but I'll look into it.

UNIVERSAL FEELING by hoyt hoy 2014-08-30T12:56:00

It was fun and definitely one of the more innovative games I've played. Unfortunately it felt more like just a timing game than an actual music game, because the music didn't seem to be connected to what I was playing. Also, the notes that play when you hit the keys are a bit dissonant. Still, nice idea - I like it.

Flipper by leondryaso 2014-08-25T22:42:00

On Linux I get "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: URI is not hierarchical" from WorldLoader.java:108.

Abstrakt by ViliX64 2014-08-25T13:23:00

Unique, certainly abstract. The "attacking" mechanic did confuse me at first, but I just had to read the instructions again. Nice work.

The Field by DrPrettyPatty 2014-08-25T11:37:00

Great game! I really enjoyed the art style. The characters were really fun and I enjoyed exploring the world. Would love to see it made bigger, because I love this kind of adventure platform game.

The tasks were nice and challenging, but I noticed that walking down a slope seems to prevent you from jumping (trying to jump onto the spinning green platform). Also, it was a little hard to judge the distance of the single soul, but maybe that was the point! Also, some camera controls would be handy!

Good job!

Bolder Rolling by Wspon 2014-08-25T12:45:00

Great idea and pretty fun! Well done making so many levels in a short time. I also like the lighting effects.

Girl, Alien and Robots by Glint Games 2014-08-25T11:19:00

Fun little platformer. The jump is a little too quick and so is the death restart so it's sometimes hard to tell what killed me. Not sure what the connection was between the girl and the alien - would like to see that expanded on.

Rubber Slimes by JangoBrick 2014-08-25T13:12:00

Cool idea. The intro text wasn't wrong - it did get a bit infuriating at times! Checkpoints would have made this a little bit better. Overall, pretty enjoyable though!

Twin star by t4u 2014-08-25T13:04:00

Cool game and interesting orbital mechanic. I think it would be cool if the comets were affected by the stars' gravities (but would also make it more difficult).

Buddinge by rhmoller 2014-08-30T22:40:00

Neat game and innovative idea. A bug I noticed: the amount of cable you have left doesn't actually matter. If you hold space between the two houses, you still connect them.

Connected by DarkEngineer 2014-08-25T10:56:00

Also not sure if it's buggy for me or not! I can walk through walls and there's a blue circle, but I'm not sure what to do. Nonetheless, looks like a good starting point for your custom framework.

Universe Travellers by MrSylar59 2014-08-25T16:55:00

Also can't see any levers in the web version (Linux, Chrome 37)

Interdimensional Puzzler by little-burrito 2014-08-26T22:30:00

You need to stick the Linux build in an archive so we can download it all as one file. :)

God Save the Peasant by Elde 2014-08-25T10:43:00

Interesting idea. As others have said, it's a little unclear what the effects of my actions are. I don't know why I would want to use the "Spy" action - what does it gain me? Nonetheless, I think something pretty interesting could be made out of this.

Tesseract by UoLCompSoc 2014-08-30T12:40:00

The error I get on Linux is this: com.badlogic.gdx.utils.GdxRuntimeException: Shader compilation failed, TesseractMain.loadShader(TesseractMain.java:714)

Cubic's Adventure by RikMuld 2014-08-25T16:24:00

Doesn't appear to run on my Linux machine with OpenGL 3.3 support (NVidia GT 630M). Apparently my drivers don't support GLX_ARB_multisample.

Warp Pong by Reisn 2014-08-25T16:46:00

Simple, interesting take on classic pong. I noticed that sometimes I can only sometimes see the lines - is that intentional? Once I understood how it was choosing which side to change to, it became more fun because I'd be trying to work it out in advance. Nice game.

Adamantium Cyborg by TD5 2014-08-25T12:36:00

Very fun! Nice graphics, music, and challenging gameplay.

A few points: there's not much space in front of you, so hard to see when the enemies are coming. Also the one hit death makes it super hard! Would be good to have a health bar and health pick-ups.

Anyway, nice work!

Jon's Adventure by SchiffFlieger 2014-08-25T13:38:00

Once I understood the mechanics (mainly that boulders were picked up in one world and placed in the other), it was pretty enjoyable. Solving the levels required a bit of thinking, which is nice. Good work.

OtherWorld by shashwat 2014-08-25T11:54:00

Nice idea! An innovative puzzle mechanic that I've not seen before, which also happens to fit nicely with the theme. Didn't take long to figure out what I needed to do. The only problem with gameplay was that I expected from proconcieved notions that I needed the "heaven" character to succeed, rather than both. I was enjoying it - wish there were more levels.

Interesting use of Bootstrap for navigation and level changes.

Jack and the Rotating Worlds by owyoow 2014-08-25T13:55:00

Nice use of the theme. I like that there's more than 2 worlds (unlike most games I've played so far). Also the transition between worlds is funky. I had fun but didn't finish, mostly because I got to about 40 points and then died - checkpoints would make it a lot better!

PRISM by rantt 2014-08-25T16:20:00

Interesting concepts for each stage, although I didn't get what was different about the "Sometimes you can't stand still" world. Good work.

2LOVERS by RevoluGame 2014-08-28T22:43:00

Fun game. I enjoyed it. There's another game that's been submitted with pretty much the exact same mechanic but you control two boulders instead. That's not a problem, of course - it's a good mechanic. :)

Nawakworlds by Sébastien Bernery 2014-08-26T17:31:00

Well it's the only LD 30 game I've seen so far that involves a tricycle! It was enjoyable while it lasted. Would have been good to see more levels and mechanics. The controls were a bit strange and I would ride past the intro text too fast and not have chance to use it. Still, you've made something interesting here. Good job.

Sabotage Will Set Us Free by machine_screen 2014-08-25T11:08:00

I like the game mechanic, but could be a little more complex. It'd be interesting if more events occurred, or if the two robot things move around in different ways. It would also be good to see progressively more difficult levels. I like your pixel art for the people and the machines.

Connection Chase by Nanofus 2014-08-25T09:06:00

Fun game and it was great to figure out the different tactics you can use. Every one of the special planets is very useful and there was a certain level of enjoyment when jumping across to another green planet to save some of my own. Also, the music definitely made it feel more tense.

A minor problem that made it a bit confusing for me on the first couple of games: you need to be playing in a wide format resolution, otherwise parts of the game are missing off the sides.

LD35 — Shapeshift

Shift the Shapes by Larzan 2016-04-21T09:02:00

Once I got a hang of the controls, I thought this was pretty nice. Simple mechanic, works well! Was quite easy until I got to level 10. It's also a simple enough idea that you could easily add mechanics on top of it to expand the idea some more. Nice work.

gay vampire from outer space by Bendix 2016-04-21T17:45:00

Interesting... also very difficult.

Chromawarp by tower07 2016-04-23T19:19:00

Nice game! Enjoyed the level warping mechanic. Also, you can't really go wrong with Kevin MacLeod music! Good job.

2D-Tris by Monofraps 2016-04-22T17:43:00

The OSX build works great (there's a bit of a weird warping of the grid when rotating, but it doesn't break the game in any way). As others have side, nice twist on a classic. And interesting audio... especially when you hit escape.

Ship Shape by paquinn 2016-04-23T21:49:00

I played it the first time not even realising I could move the guy... oops! Nice graphics, and I think the audio is decent, but I think some music would definitely go well. The gameplay is a nice idea, but it kinda breaks down because you can just spam the movement keys near the energy core and keep placing up a new shield as the stars destroy the existing one. You end up dying only when the number of stars is practically impossible to deal with. Still, I thought it was pretty neat. Nice work.

Lycan by lightsoda 2016-04-20T23:50:00

Quite a simple idea and pretty short, but the graphics and audio were well done.

Turnstone by Walnoot 2016-04-22T22:49:00

Great game! I got a little frustrated trying to jump over the tall wall for a while before I figured out what I was meant to do... I like that all of the abilities of the shapes make sense for the shape (not just arbitrary powers). And it was actually fun trying to complete the levels. Yeah, nice work.

Lucy's Adventure by TP2k 2016-04-18T21:13:00

Nice game... until 1-1 and 1-2! They were just so frustrating with the surprise deaths, especially when 1-1 had such a hard start to it. Still... enjoyable overall!

Amorphous Space Widgets by hitchh1k3r 2016-04-20T23:40:00

Nice idea, and I really like the mechanic with sliding the bits of the level around. The movement was very fiddly and I found that to get up the set of steps as the square, I just had to spam up and left until it worked. Maybe I was missing something. Overall, pretty cool!

AntiVaxx by macronoid 2016-04-21T22:25:00

Fun, simple, nice graphics and music. I didn't really feel like it was possible for me to actually keep my health up (just make it go down slower) because there weren't enough red cells.

A Cursor-y Attempt by RNanoware 2016-04-22T22:38:00

Interesting mechanics! Definitely new to me. Agreed with others that it would be helpful to start with smaller, simpler puzzles. Also, I kept forgetting exactly where my cursor would move to depending on which key I pressed and what my current position was.

Temple Shifters by sftrabbit 2016-04-18T21:53:00

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I'm glad to see the difficulty seems to ramp up nicely. I think there's definitely a couple of "aha" moments in there. Wish I'd had more time to explore some of the puzzle mechanics more. And @Jod - totally agree, would have loved to have a background and some level select/menu screens.

Temple Shifters by sftrabbit 2016-04-20T08:56:00

@Fumiko Totally agree - I both wanted to gradually teach the mechanics and also explore everything deeply, but I simply didn't have time to make more levels to explore the shapeshifting well. For me, there are a couple of stand-out levels: the one where you're first introduced to sacrificing a warrior, the one with green/white where you have to change their formation to get the statues out of the way, and the one with the line of red shifter circles. I would have loved to explore these kinds of things more, in particular combining the formation mechanic with the shifting more.

Temple Shifters by sftrabbit 2016-04-20T09:23:00

@Insality That's a difficult question. I'd say there were two things that helped:

1. Being able to quickly make levels with Tiled
2. Having a set of simple mechanics that you can introduce gradually and combine in different ways

If I had just had one mechanic, let's say the "altar" mechanic where you move against the thing with the hand on it and it allows them to keep moving while the one walking into the hand stays still, I certainly could have explored it further, but it wouldn't have had the same feeling. You'd learn the rules, and then it would just be level after level of applying the same rule in more complex situations. To make the learning experience fun, you need to introduce new rules that all interact with each other.

One of my favourite moments, when you sacrifice one of the warriors, was just a happy accident. I had the mechanic of needing to cover the exact number/colour of goals, and I had the mechanic of them falling down the pit, and then I realised I could use these together. I think it works especially because by that point I had set the pits up as a bad thing, and then that level twists it on its head.

There are some mechanics that I think *don't* work well. If I were to develop this further, there would need to be some tweaks to the statue pushing (perhaps areas of the floor where you can't push it?). Currently, it's just too *free*, so doesn't restrict the solution space sufficiently.

Temple Shifters by sftrabbit 2016-05-02T14:11:00

@knason Thanks, and you can! Just hit R and it should reset the level!

Temple Shifters by sftrabbit 2016-05-09T13:40:00

Thanks all - lots of nice and helpful comments!

Bortman by Rscar 2016-04-18T22:49:00

Great artwork and gameplay was pretty fun! I had some cool moments when I would transform to human mid-air, shoot an arrow, and then transform back before touching the floor. Felt pretty good! Great job.

An Errant Slime by gnerkus 2016-04-22T21:37:00

I think I found another little bug: if you use up all your turns exactly when you reach the end, you seem to end up in a weird state where you can see the next level but can't move any more.

Regardless, nice idea! It was sometimes quite tricky, and I like how you made moving as the slime ball more expensive than normal movement so that you couldn't use it all the time (the game would be broken!). A simple set of rules made for some nice level design. Also, good graphics and music! Nice work.

Perspective by Jeasonfire 2016-04-28T18:12:00

Really nice mechanic. I was surprised by the variety of puzzles you managed to make out of it, although I'm not sure how much further you could go without repeating the same ideas. I feel like the theme connection is a bit of a stretch! But still, lots of points for having a great idea and a game that is actually fun. Nice work.

IGEO by Thought Reactor 2016-04-20T23:47:00

The orientation of the controls was fine for me, just it was a bit slow moving. Neat puzzle ideas though.

Pegs In Space by Smiley 2016-04-21T22:17:00

211 for me! Simple, good fun! I found that usually the main reason I missed was because I couldn't see the shape either because it was obstructed by my shape or because it was a really dark colour that I couldn't make out against the background. Music was great!

Enester, the unexpected magician ! by sroelandt 2016-04-28T18:21:00

Nice idea and puzzles. Worked well! Fits the theme!

Best Game Ever by TheJJ100100 2016-04-18T20:05:00

Not exactly much too it. A few points on the theme I guess...

QWER by orukinawa 2016-04-28T08:54:00

Neat idea. Mixing the shapes and colours really made things tricky. It got incredibly difficult when you started having to do multiple shapes at the same time. Nice work.

Don't Race Me Or My Son Ever Again by Idkfawin32 2016-04-18T22:05:00

Nice raycasting! I like the interesting effect if the camera passes through a hill.

The Critter Within by Adam Gould 2016-05-07T18:26:00

Really nice work! Level design was good and taught the mechanics nicely. Graphics and musics were done well! I had a couple of minor issues: the movement was a bit too slippy, and I felt like the collision of the bird/fireballs was a little too unforgiving. Still, great work!

ShiftShape by killthealias 2016-05-09T08:07:00

Very interesting concept. Agreed with others on needing some visual indicator about direction of rotation (or even just having control over which direction it would go). There are lots of places this mechanic could go!

Laser Town by Hectigo 2016-04-19T23:43:00

Wow, fantastic game. A great take on the classic laser routing puzzles. The added depth makes it so interesting. Also, very well polished - hardly feels like a game jam game.

Figure Shift by Simaflux 2016-04-21T08:54:00

Good game! Nicely implemented tutorial. I felt like the growing grid didn't actually have much of an effect on difficulty, but the moving rows/columns definitely did. Nice work.

Moonlight by Phaix 2016-05-08T10:39:00

Really nice. Took a while to understand the mechanics with the moonlight, but once I did, I started again to do it properly and I think that mechanic is pretty interesting! I think a couple of things would really have helped: better representation of shapeshifting (I didn't really realise when or why I was changing at first); and make it clearer that attacking is doing anything.

Great work!

Stay Frosty by taviandir 2016-04-21T17:39:00

Very nice! Managed to finish the time trial with 1 second left. I liked that there were different kinds of monsters and the movement felt good. Graphics and audio also very good. Only criticism would be that the theme connection was quite weak. Nonetheless, great entry!

Shift & Persist by hazzahazzam 2016-05-08T10:58:00

Nice! The idea has been done a lot, but the levels were interesting and the humour kept me in. Also, really cool that you had a final boss - I only wish each of the 6 weak spots had a different set of obstacles leading up to them (it got a bit repetitive). ALso, the movement on the sheep in particular was quite awkward. Still, really nice work!

Shapeshifter by Sublustris 2016-04-22T21:12:00

Great graphics, well polished, and fun to play. Controls were a bit awkward (I would miss the buttons sometimes) and I felt like it was a little too difficult to not die and get sent back to the start. Overall, great job.

The Night Shift by silkworm_sweatshop 2016-05-09T11:54:00

Reaaaally nice. The writing in the intro was perfect and the game was fun. Only minor gripe was that it was a little frustrating having to start again so easily. But the graphics, music, humour - all awesome!

Shapeshift Inc by Jajo 2016-04-22T17:28:00

Unfortunately I get "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no lwjgl in java.library.path" - I guess the LWJGL dependency should be shipped with it?

Dice Delve by lanestp 2016-04-18T20:14:00

Great idea with the dice. I feel like there are some interesting mechanics you could make out of that. However, as it is, it was quite easy because you only ever have to care about the current move and it's a simple "Should I move there or shouldn't I?", which is immediately obvious from the numbers shown. Nice work with the music.

(Web) Pyramid Escape by lukethecoder64 2016-04-20T23:32:00

Also can't figure out how to play. Nothing seems to happen, whatever I press.

Reshape by Mantlair 2016-05-01T12:51:00

Great mechanics and puzzles! You're right - our games are similar! In fact, I was thinking of something more like yours when I got started. Really enjoyed solving those levels. Nice work.

Who Let The Chicks Out? by jdmazz 2016-04-21T17:49:00

For learning 50% of what you know during Ludum Dare, good job! As others have said, the movement were quite tricky to master. I really like the barn sprite for the end of the level. Good work!

Good Old Minigolf by mard 2016-05-07T18:35:00

Pretty fun! Honestly would like to play more of those kinds of levels (just maybe without the shapeshifting?).

Taymishi the shapeshifter by Genpaku 2016-04-28T15:34:00

I think I 100%ed it. Well it certainly has shapeshifting! Although I'm not sure what purpose the human serves...

Those Aren't Stars by Gtron 2016-04-28T08:50:00

Nice work! Lots of levels and great that you even managed to get a boss fight in there. Also, nice art for the characters. I didn't actually realise I could shoot until I got to the boss... that's probably my own fault for not reading the help page. However, it does show that you can basically just ignore the enemies because they do so little damage. Sticking to the edges of the platforms made jumping around quite difficult and is actually what made me get hit more by enemies. Also, agreed with the others about the moving platforms being too slow - I had to read the comments before I even realised there was a moving platform there - I kept trying to figure out how I would get across the spikes some other way. In general, really good work though.

FLESH TO STONE by tjmolinski 2016-04-21T22:31:00

The mechanic of having to keep your power up worked really well. Nice twist on a simple idea. Also, very well polished - graphics and audio were good!

Paranormal Investigator by kwmx 2016-04-19T07:44:00

Nice game! Turned out to pretty difficult (and occasionally very simple when the shapeshifter appears in a previously completely empty space). I like the idea - good work.

Neon Level Switcher by theck 2016-04-21T17:28:00

Nice idea, but like the others, it got to the point where it was switching so fast that I would just last until a wall appeared where I was (and prior to that happening, it was pretty simple). Definitely fits the theme though!

Morphris by bushmango 2016-04-23T19:27:00

Nice take on Tetris - I got some very interesting shaped cats!

A Tale Of Shifted Shapes by Odyssey 2016-04-19T19:45:00

Nice work. Wasn't really able to exit the game very easily! In fact... I'm no sure how I did actually get out - I basically just hit everything on the keyboard.

TiltForm by Gemberkoekje 2016-04-21T17:34:00

Nice game. Very difficult, as others have said. I wasn't sure if there was a button to quickly exit the level.

Sneaky Sphere by RPGghut 2016-04-28T08:33:00

I didn't realise the cubes had line of sight until I came back and read the description. Would be helpful to have some indication of where they're looking (other than the direction of movement). It was very difficult. Still, nice game, I enjoyed it.

Catshift by ragnta 2016-05-07T18:18:00

Oh god that music! Not really sure how shapeshifting was helping me. Is the number of cat faces related to speed? I'm a little bit confused.

Catshift by ragnta 2016-05-08T10:28:00

I came back because you asked me to check the rules, so I double checked them. Here are the things I'm confused about:

- The rules show a sad cat face - when does that appear? For me, the cat faces just disappear.
- The rules suggest that the pipe/ball/vase will add cat faces and make me faster. Is there a difference between them? Does being a particular shape have any effect?
- When I grab one of those items, it actually slows me down for a second, which is the main reason I get caught by the dog. How am I supposed to balance this when the thing that speeds me up is also making me lose?

You're a Floor Lamp Now by blinry 2016-04-18T21:50:00

Laughed out loud at the concept! Definitely an interesting idea and the lighting effects are nice - good work!

William's Dilemma by thunderklaus 2016-04-18T20:25:00

Nice puzzles - the one with 6 boxes and 6 switches was the most interesting, because I spent a good while trying to figure out how I could possibly get all 6 boxes down. However, some of the puzzles were too simple (just grab all the green things then hit the switches). The graphics were actually quite hard to understand at first - the empty spaces are quite difficult to see and the buttons and doors look very similar. Overall, interesting puzzle mechanic - good job!

ShapeShepherd by liva 2016-04-28T18:15:00

It must have been fun because I was sad that it ended so soon! I was looking forward to seeing how far you could take this idea. Nice work.

Shape Switch by stefvanschie 2016-04-19T07:36:00

Also had problems at first with the select folder dialog and then the keys already being bound in OSX. However, once it was working, I enjoyed the game. It effectively becomes a simple maze game but where some of the paths are covered and others not depending on where you go - I feel like this simple has lots of room for expansion! Overall, nice work!

Relec Hunter by geekguy100 2016-04-22T21:23:00

The inspiration from Metroid is very obvious! Decent gameplay ideas. The enemies are very easy (especially since I could just click as fast as possible all the time and I'd never end up seeing any enemies). Also, the worlds were just too big with too little content and such a slow walking speed - it felt quite tedious to walk some of the areas. The music was nice. Good work.

SUPER SHIFTER by Ellian 2016-04-20T23:21:00

Nice mechanic that fits the theme well, although I didn't really figure out an arrangement that would be good except for just making a horizontal line of guns. Would be interesting to have different parts of the ship work together in some way. Also, I wasn't sure how the triangle pieces were supposed to be used. Still, graphics and audio were nicely polished. Nice one.

The Protean Organism by Tomahawk2001913 2016-04-21T22:07:00

Decent game! As everyone else said, it was a bit annoying having to start from the beginning after you die. Another issue I had was that the list of things you could shapeshift into was reverse compared to the direction of the arrows you press to turn into them. I kept hitting the wrong direction because of that. Still, you got a nice simple mechanic and found some interesting puzzles to make out of it, so well done.

Shifting Worlds by ichbinkeinreh 2016-04-20T23:28:00

Nice idea (would have been most well-suited for LD30!). That last level was actually quite tricky.

Blockboy by cheesewhiz999 2016-04-22T17:38:00

Nice simple mechanics - honestly would be a bit more enjoyable if it didn't involve extremely accurate jumps to avoid hitting things that send you back to the start of the level. At those points it just felt like random luck when I managed to do it. There are definitely other ways you could have made it hard, but also less frustrating! The music is cool!

Dustin Finamore by fin_nolimit 2016-05-09T09:58:00

Nice game, I enjoyed it, but I've definitely played it before (Silly Sausage!). Really great art (especially for a 10 year old)! Well done.

Down The Well by ekx 2016-04-18T20:49:00

Simple, but actually very fun! I felt pretty tense, especially with that music! Controls were confusing at first, but actually worked great.

GOLD+SLIME by bibdectrl 2016-04-21T13:22:00

Agree on the theme being a bit of a stretch, but the graphics were nice and it was fun, so nice work.

Aftertile by LOSTALLOY 2016-04-19T17:57:00

The game looks very interesting but I honestly can't figure out what to do! Space bar to rest? It doesn't seem to do anything for me. And when I move into a wall and become a tile... what does that mean? Nice graphics, music, and the idea of transforming into a tile is interesting, but could be a little less confusing.

Speedshifter Ultra by notime4games 2016-05-07T18:12:00

Fun game! Kept me interested enough to finish every level, and a couple of them took me quite some time! I like the interesting ways that the different shapes worked together and how you used them to make kind of platforming puzzles. I had to do level 4 before I understood the mechanics for level 3 (maybe they should even be swapped?). The music was well done, but perhaps a bit too repetitive! You could have had a few bars with just the bass and drums and then it would have been a bit better. Overall, nice work!

The 3 Rules of 2-Color Shapeshiftin' in a Microworld on a Flickering Torus by theOnlyGoodDrcz 2016-04-18T22:42:00

The art and music are very well done and awesomely disorientating. The puzzles are interesting and I really like the use of the torus/repeating space to solve them. Really great work!

Shapeshift by hildegarbage 2016-04-19T22:33:00

Nice mechanic and I loved figuring out that I could make the block move off the platform it was on. Looks like you tried to go for a pixelated look, but didn't set it to nearest neighbour filtering or whatever, so it ended up looking a bit blurry. Cool music! Overall, a fun game!

Changeling by FBJazz 2016-04-22T21:27:00

I like the idea! The level was a little too busy to be able to shapeshift without being noticed and I felt like I could just run around letting them shoot each other the whole time. Interesting graphics! Nice work.

Shape Fiction by vootele 2016-04-18T21:44:00

Nice game, great graphics and music! I agree with the others about the bouncing animation making it difficult to control. A lot of the difficulty was in timing the animation with the edge of the platform. It would have been good to have some simpler levels that showed you what each of the shapes meant - I didn't really learn what the different shapes were, I just kinda picked them up and assumed it would help (which it always did). Anyway, good job!

Push Putty by joezeng 2016-04-20T08:26:00

Nice work. The idea is actually similar to what I was thinking of when I started my game, but then I actually changed it a lot and it's completely different now. Like the previous commenter, I don't think I fully understood the rules for moving certain rows/columns. I thought it might be to do with the number of connections or something, but I couldn't figure it out.

Shapeshift Wizard by foepje12 2016-04-21T17:16:00

I also experienced the same bug as Imperial Unit. Also, it is quite easy to complete a level just by walking around the edge until you get to the exit, without using any special powers or shapeshifting. I don't think I figured out what the duck's special power was.

I like the graphics and the effects like the eye, the shapeshifting smoke, and the line-of-sight area thing. Definitely an interesting take on the traditional stealth mechanic. Good work.

Shapegrammer by APantaloni 2016-04-18T22:26:00

Great game! Played it until I got the top score so far (30!) and enjoyed it the whole time. Felt like I was really learning how to get better at it. The fish and dragon were the most difficult ones for me, but I ended up with a technique of thinking "Which way is the dragon/fish facing? Press the direction 90 degrees clockwise from that" - quite a tricky bit of mental gymnastic! Lots of fun and a great idea - nice work!

Shapeshiftmaze by duenschnlate 2016-04-18T21:30:00

Interesting idea and quite difficult! The only issues I had were with having to recall the level from memory and it resetting the order of the shapes every time. Still, nice work!

Out of confort by ultravioleta 2016-04-21T17:54:00

Great artwork. It's pretty hard, but I managed to make it maybe 5 or 6 bowls at some point. There seems to be a weird bug if you fire off the left hand side of the world - my fish just seemed to reappear further along the level? And also, if I was holding click while I died, I kept a living copy? Not sure if that was intentional or not. Anyway, nice work!

Make your Queen happy by Rafos Games 2016-04-23T19:23:00

Simple concept, pretty difficult! Nice work.

LD36 — Ancient Technology

The Unreal Odyssey by cushycode 2016-09-01T20:40:00

Nice idea! I also was quite confused by the starmap and eyeglass, but eventually figured it out! However, even once I got it, it was still a bit of trial and error to see which direction I needed to to get towards the goal - I wasn't sure what perspective the eyeglass view was from. Oh, and I also didn't realise the X was the goal at first. But still, turned out to be a nice little puzzle. Graphics are pretty nice for the boat, ocean and island! Well done.

THE BOX by ReboundGames 2016-08-31T12:34:00

Really nicely done. Much more enjoyable than a normal sliding puzzle game and having duplicate letters makes it less frustrating. Great idea.

Siege Climber by masamunedragon 2016-08-30T21:10:00

Unfortunately the controls weren't very responsive for me (Chrome + OS X) - was tapping left and right and it would only occasionally move, which made it very difficult to do anything. Still, looks like an interesting take on a familiar mechanic.

SOS Snake by Pyrofoux 2016-09-01T20:23:00

Great idea! Really tough! Just doing two completely different kinds of movement simultaneously is a real pain. It would have been a bit kinder for the snake to remain safe after crashing and probably still fun (because then the puzzle is to get the snake in the right position). Anyway, really nice work. Graphics are simple but fit well, and the music is great!

Guidance by Avalanche Games 2016-08-30T17:19:00

Very short and the laser/mirror mechanic isn't new, but still an interesting implementation. Clearly the aesthetics are inspired by Stack!

Balloon by Kableado 2016-09-01T20:27:00

Nice art, especially on the balloon! Gameplay is quite simple and also easy to finish. Occasionally the movement was a bit glitchy, but it wasn't too much of a problem! Nice work.

Temple Balls by SiberianCyborgs666 2016-08-30T17:12:00

Love the background art. Simple game, but the upgrade mechanic keeps it interesting.

R. Lastey, archaeologist by Aurel Bílý 2016-09-04T23:31:00

Awesome game! I'll start with negatives:

- The vine puzzles, dusting, and spider invaders felt a bit like filler! There wasn't really any challenge to them.
- The dusting was quite tedious! And I didn't know which letters I was missing, so I would dust, check the letters, the next level button wouldn't show up, so I'd get back to dusting everything, repeat... Felt a bit like pixel hunting!
- While I quite enjoy sliding puzzles, the one in this game could have done with some innovation! Was just a normal 3x3 sliding puzzle. Still, I enjoyed doing it as much as I would any other!

Now the positives!

- Lightchess - is this an original mechanic? It's *awesome*. I agree with others that the second one was very difficult, but I got to the solution through deduction and reasoning, which was really neat. Took me a while to realise the controls (I keep trying to click and drag the pieces), but honestly I think I was just being dumb. Honestly though, could have made a whole game out of that.
- Loved figuring out the alphabet and the interface for that was really nice. When the message became apparent, I laughed out loud! So obvious...
- Despite some of the other puzzles not being as good, I still like that you put a mix of things together. The map screen was really nice and it was interesting seeing what each dot was going to have in store.
- The graphics were great. Love the minimal colour palette and the way you used it. I especially like the map drawing and the little dude.
- The music was also great. Was great that there were multiple tracks for different parts of the game. I keep telling myself I'll spend more time on music next Ludum Dare, but never get around to it (music for my game was made in 10 minutes right at the end). Next time!

Great work! Enjoyed it throughly!

Lost Orion by Sri Harsha Chilakapati 2016-08-30T20:52:00

Good work! More levels with more enemies would have been great. Movement was a little slow - could have done with a boost!

Fireworks Grandmaster by local minimum 2016-08-30T21:20:00

Wow, those customers are not so nice when you mess up! Interesting idea! Interface was a little confusing at first, but a bit of experimenting helped. Nice work.

Generation 0xDEADBEEF by sftrabbit 2016-08-30T18:42:00

Thanks for the feedback! Let me know if there's any bugs (I've had a couple of people tell me that it crashed at times) or anything that could have been clearer. Also, would love to hear how far people have gotten through the game!

Generation 0xDEADBEEF by sftrabbit 2016-08-30T20:27:00

@doomista Let's just say cell 0C *is* the player's position. ;)

Generation 0xDEADBEEF by sftrabbit 2016-08-30T20:29:00

@doomista (If that's not clear enough, being able to freely edit any part of the state is indeed intended behaviour!)

Generation 0xDEADBEEF by sftrabbit 2016-08-30T20:33:00

@nitroix If you could open the game in a new tab, check your browser's console (in Chrome, ctrl+shift+J or cmd+opt+J) and let me know if there are any errors, that would help a lot! Thanks for trying!

Generation 0xDEADBEEF by sftrabbit 2016-08-30T21:52:00

@nitroix Curious. I can't reproduce that issue. Just tried with Firefox 48.0.2.

Generation 0xDEADBEEF by sftrabbit 2016-09-04T22:49:00

@Aurel Bílý

Hurrah! Love to see people completing it! I'll respond to each of your points separately:

Multiple solutions - yes! This is one of the aspects I really liked about this mechanic. I would set up the levels to work a certain way and either notice another solution later or only find out when somebody shows me. In fact, with level 0x08, I saw you use the OC to move the player, which is totally not what I intended (but I did know you could do that). Unfortunately that kinda spoils a later level, but oh well! Different players have different experiences!

More levels/ideas - definitely! We had a whole bunch of other mechanics written out on the whiteboard, but just didn't have enough time for them. Originally the idea was going to be that the whole aim of the game was to escape the map and walk out the edge of the screen - it was just too difficult to constrain everything such that the player wouldn't be able to do that too early. But yes, there's so many more ideas that could be done here.

The stack - there is indeed some state outside of what is presented on the screen. Each of the "objects" in the level (just players and lasers) currently takes up a row in the game state and the values are highlighted red to represent "position", just like the player position. This isn't actually what I intended to do, but it seemed like an okay compromise that would be reasonably clear. I actually wanted objects (there would be more objects) to fill up the game state all packed together, and then individual objects would get colour coded and highlighted in the game state (just so you know which state corresponds to which objects). I'd be wary of putting *everything* in the state simply because it would become too cluttered and difficult to understand.

Story - the story was mostly random musings from throughout the jam, and yes, it's a bit cliche! It's mostly a result of having a neat game idea and a theme and trying to smash them together however possible... Also, the conclusion was going to have a homage to Metroid, where the sloth's armour would break off and there would be some text about it being free and able to achieve world peace, but alas, no time!

The bug - Ooo... interesting! I should check this!

Thanks for the great feedback! And thanks to Danae for playing it on the Twitch stream!

Really like the art style. Also, mazes are great! Enjoyable game!

Irradiated Steam by Postcursor Laboratories 2016-08-30T15:06:00

Interesting idea! Could definitely expand on this further. I agree with others above about the controls to pick up/drop cargo not being obvious. I feel like you could make a pretty exciting action game if you just picked cargo up as you passed and you had to figure out the routes between the different stations (maybe avoiding obstacles) and trying to avoid any stations getting too full.

Made of Steam by holgk 2016-08-30T15:00:00

Not sure how to get past the "You can move the camera" screen. No keys seem to do anything and I can't see any way to close it.

Disgolem by ocarson 2016-09-01T20:45:00

Crazy game! I'm not sure I quite understood the mechanics (how would it know when to stop taking my inputs and why were the inputs sometimes disabled?) but it was definitely interesting and afaik original.

Left Behind by RockhopperGames 2016-08-30T21:06:00

Great atmosphere - particularly the positional sound effects. It was cool seeing a drone move from another's perspective. There are definitely some interesting game mechanics that could come from this!

DYSCOVR by Sean 2016-09-01T20:32:00

Interesting! Also, the effects are really cool (maybe a little over the top!). I was a little bit confused (even after the help), but I understood when I read the description and a few of the comments. Neat idea and interesting aesthetic!

Key Adventure by g12345 2016-09-01T20:58:00

Very nice! Would have been good to have a proper hearts based system, rather than being damaged a lot just by having a lot of contact with an enemy. I like that there are different kinds of enemy that each have their own behaviour. Fun game!

Also, response to your comment on my game: just checking if you knew you could press shift to view the hex values! Should avoid having to squint so much! There are, however, definitely still some other contrast issues (was quite hard to balance), but I think it's totally playable!

Dizzy Mayan by aschab 2016-08-30T17:25:00

Very innovative gameplay! I would have liked to see more puzzley variations on the mechanics. Was occasionally a bit tedious to move the cogs around (and especially with arrows involved).
