LD36 — Ancient Technology

Castle Siege by fitret 2016-08-29T17:26:00

I like the idea. The graphics are functional if not especially interesting, but they are far from ugly. Some sound would be nice, although I admit it would be quite hard to make a canon sound from scratch. I wish it was mouse controlled.

THE BOX by ReboundGames 2016-08-29T03:29:00

@Rico The Jammer The text is selectable on purpose in case (like me) you're lazy and want to copy/paste part of it into google if you don't know the answer. Thanks for the feedback!

THE BOX by ReboundGames 2016-08-29T18:19:00

@SamuelSousa Glad you enjoyed it! Were the FPS problems during the gameplay, or the cutscenes?

THE BOX by ReboundGames 2016-08-30T22:05:00

@justinooncx That one is probably the most obscure, almost to an unfair degree, so don't feel too bad if you didn't know it.

Revolution Wheel by kiguel182 2016-08-28T21:04:00

Surprisingly hilarious. The music loop during the gameplay gets old really fast, though.

The Tomb by Jacksendary 2016-09-01T03:28:00

I spawned on top of some spikes, but other than I don't think I found any bugs. Beat it after a few tries, but I'm not sure if I just got lucky. Art/textures were good, the bricks on the floor are particularly nice. Would be scarier if the lighting fell off all the way (so you couldn't see all the way to end of a hallway). Genuinely creepy. Good job.

Get On The Horn by kadexus 2016-08-28T19:00:00

Clever interpretation of the theme. I expected it to work like most flip phones I've seen where if you want to type two letters one after another on the same button you just have to wait a few seconds for it to register, but having a next button probably lets you type faster.

Artifact of the Ancients by Omiya Games 2016-09-03T23:54:00

The art is quite well done, as is the music. I found the gameplay confusing, mainly because I didn't really get how the crates worked until very late in the game. There's a series of games called SHIFT that has a similar mechanic, and honestly I like their implementation better. I also didn't really care for the story, because it seemed a little too "in your face". I wish it was longer, but that's true of most LD games, and it really just means you did a good job with the puzzle mechanic.

evolver - tinder for evolution by squigglez 2016-08-29T02:09:00

I really like the concept, but it would be nice if there was more content. Right now there's not a lot to it.

Aqueducts by Xatpy 2016-08-29T18:37:00

A simple game, but a fun one. Using a ball to model the water seemed odd to me at first but it works and the water actually looks pretty cool.

Inventions Through Time by CodeChomper 2016-08-29T00:52:00

The game is neat (the drawings of each invention are great), but I really just wanted to say that the animated green monster logo on your site is awesome.

Xolotl by SetTheBet 2016-08-28T20:08:00

The mechanic is fun and the art/animation is super slick. Love the particles in the red fields. Seems a tad on the hard side but maybe I'm just bad at it.

Sumer Game by Rico The Jammer 2016-08-29T03:38:00

The controls/mechanics work well enough (probably not so well on a touchpad but that's true of most things.) I don't have the patience to do 3 whole tablets. I feel like it should be scored line by line, and maybe have a time limit or some other way to add challenge. Perhaps the clay will lose the imprint if you wait too long?

A little tower. by UnknownEvil 2016-08-29T00:32:00

Seems like it's taking a really long time in between waves where nothing happens. The art isn't perfect, but it's cute, and the clouds/sky look really nice.

Protetorium by DrZanuff 2016-08-28T21:14:00

The art and animation is excellent, and the gameplay is fun for a short while but if there's more to it it should maybe come a little faster because I don't think most people will play it for that long. Maybe I'm just lazy though.

Chariot Arena Battle by KayZ 2016-08-28T23:08:00

The movement controls are quite responsive although I find it very hard to aim. The netcode also seems to work fairly well, which is impressive considering the time limit.

City of Words by ethankennerly 2016-08-28T20:51:00

I was really bad at this, got to 1648 but only with several hints. Seems like it would do nicely on android. The text was a bit blurry but still very legible.

Super Paddle Ball by Slothmachine 2016-08-28T21:31:00

I love the little touches like the particles and the way the score number bounces a little bit when you get points. It's unfair how much fun this is for how simple it is.

The Chosen One by nander 2016-08-28T21:54:00

Very cool idea to use telnet. Didn't play a whole lot because it takes so long to get anywhere, but it seems to work pretty well. I appreciate the little pickups that add to the story.

Lighthouse - Illuminate to rescue! by tomdeal 2016-08-29T16:31:00

The light looks really cool, and the rest of the art is good as well. The puzzles are fairly interesting, but I'm not sure the time limit really adds anything because you just restart right away (which is better than starting all over again, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't really affect the player.)

Old Tales of a Legendary Fish by SmallPhil 2016-08-28T22:57:00

The art is really nice, I particularly like some of the effects on the water. The background audio is also very pleasant. Much like fishing, not a lot happens but you enjoy it anyway because it's so peaceful.

A Decent Game With A Great Soundtrack by xWarZonex 2016-08-29T01:21:00

The title is fairly accurate. The music has a lot more effort put into it than most other LD games (i.e. it's not just a 5 second loop), though its a bit too modern-sounding for the "ancient" theme imo. The game itself is fun, although it seems like most of the difficulty comes from if you can mash the buttons fast enough (which I can't). It also would have been nice if the stone was a different color from the ground so it stood out more, but overall it's a fun game.

Heat Ray Defense by BoltKey 2016-08-28T18:55:00

The art is pretty funny, and the effect on the water is cool. I wish the beams went all the way to a 90 degree angle though, because it's frustrating when a ship hasn't reached the land yet but I can't hit it. Held my attention for longer than I expected.

The Stones of Kelzi by XAND 2016-08-29T15:47:00

Very nice. The art is good (I like that there's more than one tree sprite) and I love the little musical cues when you find a book. The combat seems quite easy as long as you keep your distance, but it works. It would have been nice if the ground had a subtle texture to it. This seems like it could be turned into a full length game if you wanted to.

The Switch - Worker by Ghen 2016-08-28T21:23:00

The 3d effect is very cool looking, and this is a pretty well detailed game for how quickly it was made. The boss is a nice touch. Had one time where I had to make a connection (it was 3M) and it seemed like it wouldn't let me but maybe I did something wrong.

Back to Nature by QuestionableQuality 2016-09-02T16:38:00

The art is quite nice (I particularly like the logo). Sometimes it's a little bit hard to see the gauges under the characters. As many others have noted, it seems really hard, but that makes sense because if it was too much easier it would get boring.

Battle of the Blades by MacDocBros 2016-08-29T18:26:00

Pretty fun. The character models are nice and the cutscene when you win is a nice touch. I like that you get two weapons, but I found the bow aiming too sensitive.

Call of the Ancients by fenwick 2016-08-28T19:16:00

Excellent, although for me the console scrolls back to the top every time it prints something out, which made it hard to read the messages at the end. Did not expect an ARG from ludum.

Call of the Ancients by fenwick 2016-08-28T19:16:00

Oh, the title is clever as well.

Ogg and the Obelisk by SimonHutchinson 2016-08-28T20:57:00

The number background is really cool, and the rest of the art is good as well. Sort of feels like I'm missing something though.

LD39 — Running out of Power

VUEL by Jezzamon 2017-07-31T22:37:02Z

This is really, really good. The best part is the little flavor text for each enemy. That and the eyebrows. Gonna spend way too long playing this. I do wish the music loop was a little longer, it's pretty groovy though. (Keyboard control would also be appreciated)

Power Plant Simulator. by BroRawr 2017-08-01T23:49:24Z

The art is excellent. I like the way the liquids looks, and it's handy that it tells you why you lost along with multiple stats. Very nice.

Unpluged-bot by eptwalabha 2017-08-06T17:28:39Z

I like the mix of turn based mechanics and the constantly draining power (plus the special bullets that are independent of the turns). I think you could make it into something really cool if you had more time to work on levels, as-is it was still pretty neat.

Spincharge by DMajor 2017-08-01T21:30:22Z

Interesting concept. Reminds me of a [minigame](https://youtu.be/WyUfVM2pOHs?t=21) in Thrillville. The graphics look nice, although because the tops spin so fast the checkboard pattern on top looks a little weird. I felt like the controls were a little bit sluggish, and I couldn't really tell why I was or wasn't able to push the opponent off, but maybe I'm just bad at it. It's definitely worth expanding with more sounds/opponents/powerups. Could make a really fun multiplayer game.

Shekateka by dietzribi 2017-08-03T01:16:03Z

Awesome mechanic, great art, and sweet sound. Not really sure what else to say honestly. It's fun.

PowerPath by Robin Komen 2017-07-31T20:57:21Z

Very appealing graphics. I like the way you made it look like a physical game. It's very difficult, particularly because of the strict time limit. I personally would have liked it more if the paths had been more complex and the time limits had been a little looser, but that's more of a personal preference than a flaw in the game.

Power Tank by sirikan 2017-07-31T21:21:30Z

Cool game! The sound effects sounded nice, but it wasn't super clear what they all meant. I would have preferred if the camera was further back so I could see more of what was going on around me, but the graphics were bright and the levels were pretty flat so it wasn't a big deal. Music would have been nice, but I know it's difficult to have time to write any.

Pinch&scape by Guillaume Gomez 2017-07-31T23:33:25Z

Got it working after a little fiddling. Unfortunately the battery in my old tablet is barely functional so I couldn't play for very long, but the concept is super cool.

The lights go out. by Slowpoke 2017-08-02T01:18:48Z

At first I was a little bit confused, but I think I figured it out. The art was decent, and I liked the gunshot sounds. I sort of felt like the placement of traps didn't matter as much as just shooting well. That said, it's a cool idea.

Power Defense! by Rushar 2017-07-31T20:43:25Z

Fun! I love the little details like the way the enemies' hats fall off. Feels like it could be expanded into a full game where you would buy more and more blocks to build a giant treadmill-powered fortress.

PowerClick by Ramlefant 2017-07-31T22:12:25Z

Neat little game. I like that you added a mute button (not that the music is bad, just it's cool that you thought of it). I do wish you had explained how clicking the circles stopped the phone from dying.

The Political Juggle by Phlip45 2017-07-31T17:23:13Z

The sound effects are really funny. The catch the spy minigame was usually the one I started to lose on once it got tough. Good job!

Bribe or Die by LeonLaci 2017-07-31T13:32:01Z

The sounds are pretty cute, and the art works well. I found it difficult to remember which ones not to bribe (a lot felt like they would damage me either way) but I think I could get it with more practice.

Probably A Capable Rhythm Game by New Sock Smell 2017-08-02T04:14:18Z

Music is aggressively cheerful. Helped me avoid punching my monitor because it's pretty difficult. It somehow felt like the graphic at the bottom was out of sync or something, but the scoring seemed correct so it doesn't really matter.

And Here Again by PerduGames 2017-08-02T03:48:47Z

Very atmospheric. Music sets the mood quite well. I wish there were more in-game instructions, and I found it very difficult, but it communicates a feeling very effectively.

Escape the Room by JesperSB 2017-07-31T21:30:14Z

Pretty impressive that you made this within the time limit, although I found it a bit confusing. I kept running out of power very quickly. One time I managed to break the door down, but I hadn't really done anything else during that playthrough so maybe it was a bug.

The Torches Are Burning Low by Didactylos 2017-08-02T20:53:43Z

Looks awesome. I particularly like the shadows the spikes cast as they poke out. The skulls look a little bit out of place. The footstep sounds are good, some ambient music would have gone a long way for setting the mood. I feel like some of the mechanics were a little too stingy (can't have more than 3 hearts, can't hold more than one key) considering how complex the mazes are + the dimming lights. The low ceiling also made the jumps look impossible (even though they actually aren't). Still, a very impressive entry.

Pompach by Patrick Premartin 2017-07-31T22:30:02Z

I don't speak french so I was worried that I wouldn't figure out how to play, but luckily it's very simple. I played on Android, and I kept wanting to swipe in the direction of the arrow instead of tapping the button. I think it's clever how the arrow will switch a few times so you can't just look to see if it changed or not, but it felt like there was a bit of a delay between pressing the button and the arrow changing, which slowed me down. Nonetheless, a cool game.

Character Assassin by ReboundGames 2018-08-12T23:23:21Z

@xinmone Can you open DevTools (press F12) and see if the console tab shows any errors or anything? Also can you let me know what browser/OS you're using? Sounds like the websocket didn't connect properly.

They Came while I was jogging by amras0000 2018-08-13T00:26:39Z

Wow. The way you handled the intro and outro was really neat, and I like how every section had a slightly different perspective and a different task to complete. It kept the gameplay fresh all the way through. The graphics weren't bad, but the I found the perspective a little bit confusing during the part with the checkerboard walls, and sometimes the character felt a little bit too small and far away. The music was pretty great.

Oh, also I found the title hilarious.

BlockDrop by kippllo 2018-08-12T23:09:26Z

I find the way the tiny cubes fall and interact very satisfying. Pain mode ramped up really fast! I like that you found the time to get creative with the menu screen as well.

Quantum Abyss by Delightfullymad 2018-08-12T23:58:59Z

I like the music and the visuals pretty well, but I found the game a little hard to wrap my head around. There's a lot going on in the UI, and some of it (like the "right away sir" popups) seems unnecessary. That said, it's pretty impressive that you built this in 2 days. This isn't the sort of thing I usually play so maybe that's why I feel like I didn't totally understand it.

Running out of Toaster by Jegus9 2018-08-12T20:24:58Z

The art is cute, I particularly like the way the lighting shifts on the character as you walk around. The intro was a little long, but it was pretty amusing, so that makes up for it. One thing I think would be worth adding is some sort of visible change on the lamps when you touch them, because until I died the first time I didn't realize what they did. This seems like a fairly complex game, so I'm impressed you finished not just on time, but a little early. Nice job!

ReMind LD-42 by EvanM 2018-08-12T22:09:07Z

I like the black and white look, it sets the mood a little even though it's almost all text. The idea of having the story develop as you keep going in the game is interesting, but I wish the gameplay moved a little faster because it felt a little sluggish to me. It would help if there were more different memories that came up so they weren't repeated so often. That said, a creative idea and an interesting interpretation of the theme.

grOw by Sokuaisushi 2018-08-31T02:21:08Z

I really like the visual style. The controls were a little bit "floaty" maybe but it wasn't a big deal. I like that you found the time to add the pause and settings menus (although the color blind mode doesn't seem to do anything for me). Nice game!

Viral by BigBossErndog 2018-08-12T23:31:18Z

Took me a while to figure out that you could scroll the windows but I'm an idiot so you have to take that into account. I'm always impressed when people manage to get decent music into a compo game, and combined with the art it gives the game a lot of character. It's fun just looking around in the folders.

Tunnel Ride by Xyntell 2018-08-12T23:16:31Z

The screenshake when you shoot makes the gun feel really forceful. I love it. It's a simple game but you polished the heck out of it. Nice one!

Mr. Finger by sl1m_cognit0 2018-09-03T03:49:30Z

Download seems to be working now. I found this pretty difficult (I could only get to the second level!) but it's a fun idea and it seems to work well. Using the phone screen and the power button for the menu was a clever idea, although I wish one of the apps was instructions! Took me a few tried to figure out how the controls work. Neat game!

Big Box Mania by jka 2018-08-12T23:50:27Z

This has some really nice touches, like the way the box dropping sound varies in pitch a little bit from box to box, and the particles above the shrink pads. In general I think the visuals a pretty good (although the lighting is a little bit odd) and you maintain a consistent aesthetic. The movement of the yellow box feels a little bit hard to control, but that's a hard problem to solve since it has to stay locked to the grid. For a first jam this is really good!

Quatris - LD42 - Running out of Space by KiotiKid 2018-08-12T22:33:11Z

I feel like I'm not smart enough for this game. I like that you put a spin (heh) on a classic puzzle game. If you feel like spending some post-LD time on it, I think some animations and maybe a brief tutorial would go a long way to making it feel less intimidating.

Claustrophobia by DangoGameDev 2018-08-12T23:38:18Z

It's very short, but it has great atmosphere. For me the mouse pointer stayed in the middle of the screen the whole time, which was a little distracting, but that wasn't a big deal.

CLAUSTROPHOBOI by turbo.torbo 2018-08-12T22:20:17Z

I like this one a lot. The art is very cohesive, I particularly like the font choices. I found that I was able to get pretty far by staying in the top right corner for as long as possible, although I would eventually get forced out. My best score was 125 seconds.
