Outrunning Space! by drludos 2018-08-13T01:02:18Z
HOLY CRAP! I LOVE THIS IDEA!! Its very simple. Love the animation and I definitely have never seen a game played in a url bar. Very limited space indeed!

Awesome art style. Love the take on the theme as well. Quite a bit to manage but quite entertaining. The controls are a little sluggish and I feel like I'm driving a tank though. I could see this working really well with a controller using the analogue sticks though. Maybe even some kind of co-op play. I think this could be really polished into a marketable game!
@stepan-shabalin I'm getting some divide by 0 error when I run it... x64 version
@stepan-shabalin No worries. I tried the x86 version as well and it was a no go. Real shame, since I like the concept! Might have to download the source and give it a shot in Godot
@stepan-shabalin I did download both. When I load the game, I see the main square character but nothing else on the screen. In the debug window, I get the division by zero error...
I didn't see the overall progress moving up at all. Not sure what I'm doing really. I had 2 out of the 3 sciences over 100% though....
Very cool concept. Kind of like a 1 player Battle Royal thing. I do find the control a little awkward. I think its because of the perspective. If the camera was higher and tilted downwards (3/4 perspective), I think might fix it.
Very cool. Very simple idea yet challenging enough. I love the fact that it is very intuitive. Also nice to see another puzzle type game! The sounds get a little grating/harsh at times. I think its more the volume than anything.
The style is really cool. I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing but I feel like it is a very neat concept.
Beautiful. Love the style and chiptune music. Is it just me, or do some of the ships look like the old NES Gauntlet ghosts? Gauntlet_Gameplay3-1.png
@reboundgames I would agree! I was hoping to have a menu screen and a little tutorial screen for the jam but just ran into some bugs that I had a hell of a time fixing. Animations were an after thought for me, but I would also agree. We'll see if I dig it back out. The nice thing is, I teach intro programming. So now I can at least show the kids an example of something I did on my own in 48 hours and maybe encourage them as well!
@teo-miklethun Thank for the feedback. I struggled with the grid size a little. I wanted it big enough to give space but small enough to be difficult. I didn't try too many combos since I was too busy squashing bugs but might give it more tweaking later down the road.
@korso Thanks for the feedback. I didn't have much time for animations. A shadow would be an interesting idea and I never thought of that! Animations were something I didn't plan to put in for the compo. I didn't have the time to determine a good way to handle it. My thought was a simple picture to just give the illusion of movement but ran out of time.
@omnipotentindie Thanks for the feedback. I just went with the idea without even knowing if it would play well! I would agree its hard to actually play and the field may be a bit big.
@noxalus thanks for the kind words. I spent a little time trying to figure out different ideas but the Tetris theme seemed to be the best. It's the original running out of space!
@tetra Thanks for the kind words! I had not seen the idea of rotating the room either and thought "why not give it a go". I did program in speeding up. It happens after every 5 lines and reaches max speed at 50. It just doesn't seem very fast at the start. I also think the grid was a little large. I had originally thought of adding a menu with a difficulty selection to have it faster at the start but unfortunately, time just ran out and I was running into a major bug I couldn't solve.
@bog13 @paulhocker @eric-kulbiej @candlesan @autumnotopia Thanks for all the kind words. I hadn't stopped in in a few weeks due to school starting back up. I'm glad everyone enjoyed and I'll try and get to your games as well!
LOVE the aesthetic! The hand drawn characters/animation/background with the music creates a very mellow atmosphere. Very cool little story game. Not exactly sure I know what is going on or if I get the backstory from it, but very cool nonetheless.
Very cool. Hard to see on a smaller screen. Text and everything gets crowded and makes it hard to select things... or that is intentional....Very addicting though.
Very cool idea to use the theme. No only do you have to watch out for the batteries running low, but you need to watch how much info you can store. Love it! Music was a good fit as well and the characters were very charming. Like the idea of surveying the life around you.
I love it! The hand drawn sprites and voice sfx fit really nicely. The controls are a little weird but I don't mind that. I'd almost want it centered on the screen near the bottom to give me that full "boat driving" experience. The ranks are a nice touch as well!
Love the opening dialog and back story. Very cool take on the theme. Music is very fitting too. I seem to be very bad at the game and keep blowing up, but very cool!
Love the idea behind it! A little difficult to play on my laptop without a mouse attached but I managed! I could see this concept working really well with a controller. Co-op play could be interesting as well. I'm thinking along the lines of Overcooked! Really enjoyed it
Not bad for a day! I like the idea. Reminds me of that Human Tetris/Wall game.
