nice game, cool music, amazing graphic effect
Oh man, I love this! The music, the visual style, the feel... Amazing work! It's hard as nails though!
My favorite game so far! I wish there was a way to turn down the music a bit in game, but overall this is awesome! I really liked the background effects.
Nice Work! Visuals and Music were on point!
Awesome graphics style, and a lot of fun to play. I really like the music and the feel of the game play. While some of the weapons didn’t do it for me, I really like how they all feel different. Cool twist on the theme that makes each round of game play stay short without making it too obvious. Overall really great submission.
Beautiful. Love the style and chiptune music. Is it just me, or do some of the ships look like the old NES Gauntlet ghosts? Gauntlet_Gameplay3-1.png
This is awesome. Clever use of the theme, and I love the music/overall ambience.
1. I love the tv screen. 2. I love the game. 3. I hope that you make moregames in the future.
Nice! Probably the best I've played yet.
love the tv screen
That is absolutely beautiful, nice work.
The TV screen. the sound effect. the music. the sprites.
Every thing, it feels so retro and awesome
Ludum Dare's eval system really lacks something that rewards execution. This game looks, plays, feels competently done. I enjoyed what I played. Good job.
Awesome execution, great gameplay and music!
Nice game, enjoyed it very much. Keep it up!
The game feels really great to play. Very well done. :D
Awesome soundtrack (reminds me of the 'classic' MegaMan games), very nice retro-graphics and good overall game-play.
Nice soundtrack, Nice visual, Nice gameplay. this is a fun game and i found interesting to maximize the player score in such a short experience. i'm curious to know how much variation do overall score have. i don't find the use of the theme as much original as other entry but the game feel is really good and that is more important to me.
The best game I have played so far! Graphics and audio are excellent, the gameplay looks like it took way more than 48 hours, and the old CRT nostalgia fits perfectly. Well done! This deserves to rank high.
I enjoyed this one a lot, all of the enemy fire patterns are a lot of fun to navigate and it has a great feel, but there are a few points in it that I feel could really have improved it.
First is a direct connection between your health and the wall. It feels arbitrary to have two forms of death. I feel like the game could be a lot stronger if you combined them, and made it so that when you get hit the wall gets closer to the player.
Also, it sometimes felt like the wall sometimes moved a lot faster than others, and one game I got almost none of the large enemies that really stop its progress, so it felt inevitable in a bad way that I would be engulfed.
The controls of the game should have more options. I have a decent laptop, but it can't press the up and left arrow keys and space at the same time (I know). The option for using Z or another button to fire would be appreciated so I could use my right hand for movement. Not a big deal but it hurts the experience a little bit.
The graphics and sound are awesome. I love this visual style, and the execution with the crt effect and all of the different enemy graphics is simply amazing. Excellent work.
Overall, a really fun experience. Good work!
Love the clear style and aesthetic of both art and music. Gameplay feels good. All in all a nice little game.
Cool game. I like the music and the variety of weapons.
@terracottafrog Thanks for that very detailed review  . For the health + wall combo, I did experiment with that but I wasn't very much convinced by it. I wish I had more time to refine these mechanics for the jam.
I know that the game is not very well balanced, again because of the time constraints.
For the controls, you can use ESDF instead of the arrows keys, or a controller (but I did have some problems where the controller wasn't recognised by the browser)
Thanks for the review !
_Also thank to everyone for your kind comments_ :hearts: !
Very solid entry! Visuals are super easy to read, great game feel overall. Loved it!
Amazing game and the look was unbelievably cool. I didn't fully understand how to stop the space from engulfing me or if there even was a way to hold it back. Very challenging but fun to play. Great Job.
I hate it ... No honestly i'm just jealous. It seems we had very similar idea. But you pulled it off. You really did a amazing job. aside from the artwork, music and gameplay what I find impressive is the punch of it all. I want a put a 6th star in mood. So I hate it.
Beyond awesome. Extremely fun, approachable yet challenging, terrific graphics by themselves but the monochrome with the old school CRT effect is a really nice touch. Top notch controls and visual feedback like screen shakes give an incredible feel. Textbook example of how to do a LDJAM.
good graphics, style, and feel. awesome work!
Great art style! I love the screen warp as well as background parallaxing - gives the space nice sense of scale. I only wish there was a way to push the wall back somehow (unless I'm missing something). I also keep thinking that those round bombs are pickables :D. The shooting is very sold and gives a lot of satisfaction. Fantastic work!
Love the art and feel of the game! Took me two plays to figure out killing enemies move the nova back and that grabbing weapon power ups are essential. Only complaint is it seems like enemies are attacking from inside the nova—maybe that is intentional but seems a bit unfair! :)
Overall a great game. Top marks for the style - artwork and audio. It's fun, unforgiving and plays like a classic. Great job!
Fun and hectic, reminds me a lot of the game i made, but more polished. I dont think enemies should attack from behind you. Really well done
Good concept, I really enjoy this game! I like the CRT look of it. music is on point. Thanks for sharing
A good game idea, the music should be improved. The graphics are good. Try our game too, maybe you'll like it)
Getting chased by the space clouds! enjoyed the music more than any other entry it's really neat little polished game. I was wanting a little more mechanically other than avoidance, but it's pretty cool for what it is.
Great game, well done!
I like your game, but I think the initial audio level should be way lower. I really like the music that creates the mood for the game - why did you opt out of that category? Love that it supports controller. Solid entry!
Fun, well made game. I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/YTqGyFG4tXA
Love the visuals and the sound track is awesome, great work!
Solid 5/5 from me. So much fun!
On second thought, It would have been cool if I could control the ship with the mouse and click to shoot, but that's a minute detail.
Awesome game, as already mentioned! It could benefit from some balancing, because after playing it for quite some time, I find myself restarting the game again and again until 1) the first enemy waves are not too powerful, and 2) the first power up I get is the triple shot (definitely the best weapon from my experience).
This is a really good one. Graphics and music are really on point. Feels smooth and is a lot of fun. Super hard though, might be me but I feel like the supernova is a bit too fast, I feel like there's no way I can kill enemies fast enough to have the supernova not catch up on me. Is there a mechanic I'm missing?
Really nice entry. Love the idea of CRT display. I consider myself as fan of those types of games, but this was a hard one. Had a tons of fun though! Art is nice and suits very well the overall mood and style. Good job!
This was great fun, especially when you get the laser!!!!!
Very nice. Graphics were good despite being black and white, and the music and sound were great, though a little loud. Pretty difficult, but the controls made sense and were easy to use.
Loved it!!! Sound and visuals perfectly matched. Very challenging yet addictive!
Great fun, super juicy, nice soundtrack and schmup action is aces. I'm not sure how to avoid the supernova growing though, and bullets shot from within the supernova feel kind of unfair (after all shouldn't the bombs and enemies be burnt to a crisp inside that).
This game oozes style. I love music and the way the audio changes to a 'higher fidelity' when you start the game. That's a really nice touch. The game itself is quite enjoyable and it makes me feel like I'm in an arcade. Excellent work!
Very nicely made o/ I keep dying though ;_;
agree with everyone, you pretty much nailed it - perfect game - thanks for making it
Great entry, the game is fun and feel very responsive (music, sfx, screenshake ...) It may be a bit too hard for me, and when you start loosing, you get less space so you loose even more. Maybe having more back and forth with the back wall, according to the kills you do, would be more dynamic. I had a lot of fun !
What a rush! Seemed quite hard at first, but once you get into the swing of things (and in my case, avoid getting the laser upgrade, minigun worked best for me) it becomes doable to get a quite a while in.
Has a bit of a Luftrauser vibe to it -- here though, the concept is even simpler, but I find that I don't mind, since for this game, everything is in the execution. Everything just flows and handles so well that it almost doesn't even register.
Big fan of the music, 'hopeful' in a way that only some retro-chiptunes seem to manage, seems to have as much filtering over it as the (also great, or at least very 'alive' and in a style I like) graphics/animation (to achieve the 'old arcade-hall speaker' effect to it no doubt).
I like that the screen shakes just a little bit even if you do nothing at all, just to give it the feeling that you're going so fast the ship is about to blow up all on it's own, never mind the big white void.
The only criticism I have right now is that your eventual success (or lack thereof) seems to be a bit too dependant on the initial ships/upgrades you get thrown against you. (Though the randomization keeps it more replayable I think.) But maybe that's the reason the upgrades don't stack? Because that would have been neat, at the cost of making it even more arbitrary.
