I'm TOTALLY not a clicker! by maartene 2018-08-13T19:48:47Z
Clicker games get me every time! Sure enough I got completely hooked, its a nice take on a clicker and a nice twist in needing to pair the cubes together too. Well done!

Clicker games get me every time! Sure enough I got completely hooked, its a nice take on a clicker and a nice twist in needing to pair the cubes together too. Well done!
One of the best games I have played, top marks for innovation! It's exactly the kind of cool concept game that can come out of jam, and it should be continued into a full mobile game! Well done!
It's an impressively long game for a jam! Nice, polished graphics and a clear set of game mechanics that complement each other well. Well done!
Nice! Quite a lot of depth of a jam game, and always nice to see ones made in Pico-8! The dice rolling animation is nicely done, and I didn't come across any bugs etc. Well done!
Really nice game! When I played the first level I wasn't really expecting much, but it develops nicely into a really strategic game. Happy to have managed to figure out level 11, although it did take a while! Just the right length of game, not too fast, not too long either. Well done!
Great to see a hand drawn game in the jam! It was a very slow process taking the notes as a policeman, which is a shame as I'd have loved to have skipped through parts of the dialogue, but I did enjoy the idea of seeing it from 2 different sides, and as a concept it's very clever. Well done!
Wow! What a great little game. Lots of polish and some really slick gameplay that is intuitive yet easy to understand.
Each level posed a different challenge and kept me going back for more until I beat them all!
Well done, this deserves a high rating.
Cool to see a Bitsy game in the jam! Nice graphics and nice interface with the text windows etc. Also guessing the portrait of Poseidon must have taken a while! Well done!
Graphically the best game I have reviewed so far! Super polished, looks like a complete game straight off of a game boy! The mechanic works well with having to tidy up the crystal debris after firing, and the enemies are well animated and tough to beat. Well done!
Fun concept! One of the more innovative games from the jam, it's great that it requires some lateral thinking thats very unique to this game. Well done!
Looks like it has a lot of potential, and it is a very unique game! Have to be honest, it took me a long time to understand how to play, and I couldn't figure out how to beat level 1! A tutorial may help. Well done for coming up with something genuinely innovative!
A lot of complexity for a jam game! Clearly a lot of thought went into this, so well done for getting it to a playable state! It works very well and takes a nice balance of quick thinking and strategy. Well done!
It's a fun game! Shame it is over rather quickly, but it's a nice challenge dealing with the falling tiles and planning ahead. The audio is good and the graphics are too. Well done!
Fun game, lots of nice puzzle mechanics to figure out and a nice take on the theme! Did find it very difficult, but that's not a bad thing. Was very satisfying to beat a section after failing it so many times. Well done!
A neat little game! It's quite tricky to come up with something engaging when youre working with a 2-colour palette and basic graphics, but this works really well. High score of 33. Well done!
It's a really great game! Lots of complexity considering it's Pico-8, and very impressed by the graphics. Well done!
@paulstraw thank you so much!
@gulfick thank you Gulfick!
@deformhead Thanks! Art isn't usually my thing so this means a lot!
@ephoria Thanks Ephoria!
@apple-dash thanks for such a thorough and complete review! I totally agree that the procedural part makes it really tricky to know if the game is actually 100%-able. Will take all the feedback on board :)
@ulcius thanks so much for the lengthy review! It means a lot. It could certainly suit being a rhythm game!
@qkerguelen I will definitely have a go at yours too seen as we have done something similar! I'm pretty sure a perfect score is borderline impossible so don't feel down about it. Thanks for the review!
@alex-adedge Thanks for the review! With a bit more time I wanted to add a phone, but yeah a retro phone or something tiny like a Casio would've been funny!
@quicklyer Thanks for the great review! I wish I had have gone a stage further now and done a really tiny final level! Do definitely recommend Pico-8 to anybody, after 4+ years of Unity development I found Pico-8 a breath of fresh air for building things fast that don't require complex code. Thanks again!
@cary-stanley thanks for the review! The difficulty does ramp up especially on the Game Boy screen so dont feel bad, just remember you can roll through the boxes instead of jumping them ;)
@ithildin thanks for such a great and lengthy review! It's much appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the game!
The best game I have played so far! Graphics and audio are excellent, the gameplay looks like it took way more than 48 hours, and the old CRT nostalgia fits perfectly. Well done! This deserves to rank high.
It's a really well put together game! It's very challenging yet easy to get the hang of. Graphics are nicely done and I didn't come across any bugs or glitches. Well done!
It's certainly fun! Took a little while to get the hang of quickly drawing but its an enjoyable challenge that I ended up restarting several times. Well done!
Great fun! Quite tricky to get the hang of it, but enjoyed it as I improved. The multiplayer was very fun too! Well done!
Great work! It's a nice concept and does fit the theme well. There was a couple of little bugs like getting stuck inside the plane when pushing it, but that can happen with a fast jam. Well done!
Clever game! Ended up playing it for quite a while so it definitely has replay value. One of the only games I've played that scored well for humor, due to the funny nature of some of the folders! Well done!
Nice idea! Its an innovative concept that has been executed well. Just needs a little more variety of the characters which could be easily done with a bit more time. Well done!
Top marks for innovation, this is a really fun game! It's simple yet challenging and I think it's got a lot of potential if you carry on developing it. Well done!
Took a while to realise there was a jump button! Once I had it figured out though it was a fun game! Challenging level progression and a nice smooth experience. Love a good Pico8 game! Well done!
Would it be possible for you to add a set of instructions to this jam page? I really didn't understand what I was doing! I think if I did understand it could be really fun, as it does seem well put together from as far as I got, in terms of drawing maps and placing the tiles around.
Fun game! Enjoyed playing it, and it has some nice mechanics too. I would say that it could do with some kind of score or progress counter as I wasn't sure whether I'd completed it or not! Good job using Pico8, the graphical parts came out looking nice! Well done!
Enjoyable little puzzler! Fits the theme well, and I didn't encounter any bugs! A really nice level of challenge as it took a few goes to pass most levels. Well done!
Surely the most complete 3D game submitted in the jam! Really impressive to have created all those assets in 48 hours, it was pretty challenging and I only managed to get 1 sheep to the barn, but thats fine! Well done!
Exceptional work soldiers! Seriously though, it's an outstanding jam entry and you should 100% carry it on with some more levels and release it, because it will definitely sell! Well done!
A nice jam game! The hand drawn graphics look great, and the game plays well. Its simple to understand and play, and theres some fun humour elements in there too. Well done!
Great game! A totally unique idea and its genuinely great fun. Well done!
An enjoyable jam game with a lot of progression and features built into it! You did well to create something so vast in the time frame, and it of course fits the theme well. Well done!
A nice idea to put a "sacrifice" spin on a classic game of dominoes! Played a full game and ended up winning 104/29. It's well put together and I didn't find any bugs. Well done!
Making a good game in Bitsy is about as tough as it gets, but you came up with something that works really well. PLayed it all the way through and was genuinely hooked! Great job!
Found 3 of the items and got back to the house, so I think I won! A nice little jam entry, the sailing parts work really well. Well done!
This might well be my favourite game of the whole jam, it plays so smoothly! Little details such as the player momentum, bounce physics and ability to play the levels backwards, it's all so cleverly done! Also, top marks for using Pico-8 (I did too!). Well done!
Great game! Played it multiple times and ended up using all of the mechanics and functions. It all ties together very well! Great graphical work and UI. Credit for using Pico-8 too (so did I :p). Well done!
It's a great take on the theme and theres so much logic and complexity packed in considering its a jam game! Well done! It plays really well.
Looks almost too polished for a 48 hour jam! Well done!
Enjoyed this a lot! There is some seriously good and well thought out level design in play here, and both times I played through I ended up going in a completely different route. Well done!
Hilariously good fun! The voice acting is so so good, combined with some solid gameplay and lot of humour, I really enjoyed this one. Well done!
Great game! It's a really accomplished platformer and plays well for something made within the timeframe of the jam. Played it all the way through which is always a good sign, and its great to see a Pico-8 game submission! The lightning flash effect on the map was particularly impressive! Well done!
A really unique storytelling experience. I enjoyed the overall experience, and it was nice to play something completely different to every other game in this jam. Well done!
Graphically its one of the best I have seen so far! Gameplay was interesting and fun, if a little overwhelming at first as theres quite a lot to understand. I enjoyed this one a lot! Well done!
Great visuals and a fun, creative take on the theme! The online leaderboard is a great feature to have added too! Well done!
Great game! Enjoyed this one a lot and played until I got completely stuck! Top marks for using Pico-8 (I did too!), I can see you put a lot of effort into the graphics. Well done!
@meursault thanks for the great review! I agree the controls are not the smoothest, it was tricky to get a balance between people reading the text or having to wait around. Thanks again!
@mafancy thanks so much for the great review!
@vatigo thanks for the great review! Glad that you didn't encounter any bugs!
@minibobbo Thanks so much for the thorough review! I agree that some sound effects would've added something extra, and I was totally aware of how clunky and slow the control scheme can feel at times, I agree with all of the feedback, and appreciate you taking the time to write it up!
@justalocalhero the penny was there to straight away teach people what kind of things to not bother picking up, to fall for grabbing it on the way out again is extremely unlucky! Thanks for the review and feedback!
@samh one of the items that I really hid was a pile of cash under the bed :), and possibly you missed the penny by the front door? Either way you got all of the important items which is the primary challenge so well done! Thanks for playing/reviewing!
A nicely presented game with a strong connection to the theme running through it! I like how strategic it gets. Well done!
Great little game! It looks cool in monochrome and plays well too. It's a nice use of the theme to have a cat sacrificing its 9 lives! Also, great to see TIC-80 submissions (I'm a fan of TIC-80 myself!). Well done!
It looks great, but I simply couldn't figure out how to play it! Threw everything in the fire in the end, and this is not how it works seemingly! Good effort though, particularly on the art.
A fun little game with some nice audio and graphics! Great that you added story elements to it too! Well done! Controls are a little tricky with using the mouse, keys and spacebar at the same time.
The most fun game I've played so far! Really polished gameplay with some great animation. The volcano explosion caught me by surprise! Well done!
A nice balance of humour, challenging gameplay and strategy! It is genuinely very fun. Well done!
Fun little shooter! The controls are simple enough to use and I like that the gun overheats as not to make it too easy! Thought the mood of it was particularly good too! Well done! A little bug I did find was that there is a deadzone straight down the middle where the gun can't fire, so if an enemy is approaching in the middle of screen, the bullets initially all go above or below it.
A really unique experience! Great art style and the game is well presented and animated. I managed to get to day 8 which I thought was pretty good! Well done!
Great first attempt at a jam game! It's a nice take on the theme and the commentary prompts are a really nice touch! Well done!
Little thing: In future, add a button to restart a level if possible!
Nice graphics and a nice general atmosphere has been created in this game. It plays well, and I didnt feel overwhelmed by anything. Well done!
For your first Ludum Dare you did a great job! A simple game but its been put together well and the graphics are great! Well Done!
Great game that has some nice mechanics going on! Lots of humour and I kept playing it for quite a while! Well done!
Genius!
Had no choice but to persist to the finish as I was hooked, and I'm glad I did!
The best game I've played this jam.
Really enjoyable game! One of those simple concepts that makes you think "how did nobody come up with this already?" Nice graphics and it's really quite addictive! Well done!
Great game! The graphics are nicely presented and the core game mechanic works really well. Great to see a TIC-80 submission too! Well done!
I laughed out loud when I went to sculpt my first pot and stuck my ham hands right through the middle of it, shrinking the middle to the width of a twig. It's a great jam game that feels really polished and clean. It's also totally unique. Well done!
Love it! A great little arcade game with a tight connection to the theme. The intro explained everything well so I could just jump in and understand what to do. Lots of nice animation and effects which is often lacking in jam games. +999 for using Pico-8 too! Well done!
A nicely crafted game with some real polish on the graphics! The intro set the mood really well.
A little bug I had after I died next to a door the first time, I then had "Press E to Open" permanently stuck on screen and it overlapped the dialogue from then on so I couldnt read it properly. Sure its an easy fix if needed.
All in all, well done!
Outstanding! The best game that I've played so far. A great use of the theme to come up with something unique and intriguing, I played it all the way through and really enjoyed the experience and the sense of perspective you get from it. Well done!
A nice experience and change of pace from the other jam games. The graphics look great and I particularly like how the text drops into place as it displays. Well done!
A nice change of pace for a jam game, more of a jam experience. A cool atmosphere in game and plenty of attention to graphics which look great. Well done!
Wow wasn't expecting to play any games that felt so complete! This is the kind of game that gets developed over several months usually, but it didnt feel rushed or buggy at all. Outstanding atmosphere achieved in-game and you should definitely release it as a full game. Well done!
It's one of the more innovative ideas I've come across so far as theyve all felt a bit "samey". Great frantic gameplay that draws you in and engages you. +1 for using Pico-8 of course! Well done!
Excellent work! It's a great game that above all other's I've played pulled me into the narrative and made me really take in the dialogue. I enjoyed the puzzles and made it to the end (I think), although it did bug out when I pressed Z when the text box lifted up (after you trade the last lives). No harm done, well done!
Great interpretation of the theme! A lot of strategy and content for a jam game and some nice graphical elements too. Well done! This is one of the most memorable games that I've come across so far.
@notb thanks for the feedback and for the heads up on the latest Pico8 version, I'll definitely jump on that one!
@shawn-moore thanks for playing! Awesome that you recognised the style from last jam :).. the score thing was a design choice on my part, it felt mean to dish out negative commission! Also meant if you took a while to get the hang of it, then it could take forever to then finish starting off with minus score. :)
@aeveis Thanks for the feedback :). You're not the first to say there wasn't any audio! I've re-exported it with the newest version of Pico-8 in the hope that it fixes that issue. Thanks again!
@64mega not bad at all! Best I managed knowing all the tricks was only 10 seconds faster :)
@aeveis thanks so much for letting me know!
@xlambein thats a great suggestion! Thank you, and thanks for playing!
Wow great work! Love the fluidity of the gameplay and the mood it sets. It's a lot of immersion and cleverness to be achieved in Pico-8 limitations in 48 hours so well done!
P.S. It took me a long time to find anyone initially, because I was only going left and right. Maybe start with someone always on screen as the first soul to find to get people going :).
Love it! Great soundtrack and graphical work, and a nice concept that can definitely be built upon. You have the foundations of a great releasable game and you should continue working on it! Well done!
Makes me want to have a go at GB Studio myself! Great work, a real nostalgia trip with some lovely graphics work. Maybe continue working on it to make it longer post jam? I really enjoyed it and want more! Well done!
Really nicely laid out game, almost a cross between a Bitsy game and a Pico-8 game. Simple to pick up and understand, with a nice underlying focus on what to achieve. Well done!
Outstanding! It's a great take on the theme, a genuinely challenging puzzler, it made me laugh out loud a couple of times (losing a skull, and the "it'll cost you an arm and a leg" cliche in particular), it's really clever and I played it through to the end because it deserved that. The best game I've played so far in terms of fun and innovation. Well done!
Excellent game, very very clever to have to figure out the intro puzzle in order to play, which teaches the main concept before starting. Well done!
A nice side scroller with some challenging gameplay. Nice mechanic to avoid the water sprays. Plus points for using Pico-8! Well done!
Love it! I have an appreciation for anything Tic-80 or Pico-8 as I know how much more coding is involved when making things, this plays really well and is so much fun! Well done!
Best game I've played so far. Most innovative game I've played in a while, and I'm sure if this became a full mobile app release it would do very well. Good job!
Oh yes, this was awesome! Straight out of an arcade cabinet somewhere, the music is awesome, the graphics are great, and the fast paced action worked perfectly. The fox is a worthy opponent! Great job!
Amazing what you managed to achieve with such limited colours! It has a great mood to it, and was a lot of fun to play. Reminded me of Minit. Can I ask what engine you used?
You managed to pack so much into this! Great to get to play a variety of mini-games, and as a fellow Pico-8 jammer, I can appreciate how much work must have gone into this, well done!
Great entry! Reminds me a bit of Enter The Gungeon, you managed to get a lot of polish on there in the timeframe. Well done!
Great job! Simple to pick up and a nice brain teaser on each level. Nice to see a totally original concept too!
Fun little arcade game! A nice way to make light of the current pandemic. Plus points for Pico-8 of course!
I like it! Simple concept but it fits the theme and it has a nice difficulty curve as you go. Well done!
I enjoyed this one! Lots of originality to it and some clever mechanics. The levels were nice and challenging too. Well done!
I had no idea what to expect when I started playing this, but I really enjoyed it! Cool concept that required thinking to learn it and master it. Well done!
Nice to play one for those submissions that has a new game mechanic that I've not seen before. It's a fun game that's quick to pick up and play. Would work well as a mobile app title. Well done!
Really enjoyed this game! A very original idea and I was hooked long enough to keep playing up until the finish at round 10. Well done!
Great game! The most important thing about it is that you built lots of replay value into it, and lots of levels to play through. The audio is particularly catchy too!
Nice little endless fighter. Plus points for using my fave (Pico-8) engine too!
Late review to get you over the 20 votes threshold for a ranking :D Good luck!
Awesome job! Was a pleasant surprise to see multiple levels, I wouldn't have been mad if there was only one. Genuinely fun and plays smooth.
Very cool concept and nice interpretation of the theme!
Love the graphic style too, very 90's Indie Japan :D
@michael-parrish thank you so much! Especially as you're the first reviewer!
Something charming about the computer generated voices thanking me haha, great fun!
What a nice, unique idea! Simple, but engaging. Exactly what you want from a jam game!
After seeing many many games based around circular loops, this was a very refreshing twist! It did make me laugh as a concept, and the graphics are looking great. Well done!
Very satisfying the first time you make the jump!
For a first jam, great work!
It's infuriating, it's addictive, I hate it. 5/5 can't stop playing it!
Nice physics at play here, and it fits the theme well. Bonus points for using Pico8, my favourite!
Awesome job on the art! I was determined to finish it but after many attempts couldn't get past about 70% haha. The fact I wanted to keep playing is a very good sign! It's a bit like reverse Doodlejump.
Great job as always Phil! Top marks for innovation, for basically reinventing a classic and turning it into something new! I really enjoyed playing it. Top score was 128413.
Nice art style, and a well executed jam game. It presents really well, and has plenty of polish. Well done!
Nice job! It's an original game, and in 4 hours too! That is what Ludum is all about.
Plus points for Pico8 too ;)
@oadt thank you!
Very, very impressive! Totally worth a published full release. Graphics and Audio are about as good as I think I'll see on any jam game that I play here.
A really well thought out game. Requires a whole set of skills that I am yet to master!
It did make me laugh when the transforms happened! It's a nice game, and a creative take on the theme which I always like. Well done!
Awesome! The soundtrack is one of the best I've heard for sure, and the gameplay is really satisfying. Well done!
Plus points for Pico8 too ;)
I really enjoyed this, and probably played it for longer than any other jam game so far! It feels like a release that has been worked on for months honestly.
But, I did get stuck pretty early! If anyone could give me a hint so that I can pick this back up again that would be great. I couldn't find either the nicotine, or a key to the bathroom.
Nice job, you created a cool atmosphere and mood that suited the game. The puzzle elements were easy enough to not get stuck, but hard enough to need to give them thought. Well done!
A nice, creative use of the theme. A simple platformer with a fresh interpretation! Well done, I really enjoyed playing it.
A really nice, polished entry! This would work really nicely as a mobile puzzler game that you could release off the back of this jam. Graphics are really clean. Well done!
Nice! You managed to create a lot of depth and intrigue in such a short space of time during the jam. Nice work on all the 3D assets too.
Surprisingly more-ish, just like drilling for actual gold I guess! I got about 5 levels down but sadly my early retirement will have to wait. Gad Dangit, drills overheated.
Oh this was an unexpected surprise! Not sure how you integrated Wiki into a game, but it works well. Really cool that you have taken a fictional game and actually given it structure to have a leaderboard etc. Well done!
Nice! This game is challenging, without being impossible. Some really nice transitions and effects thrown in, the massive blood explosion on death was hilarious.
Plus points for using Pico8 ;)
Well done! A solid first jam entry, and clearly you put a lot of time in to get the graphics drawn and audio effects created.
Nice job! A fun take on the theme. Clean graphics and animating. Bonus points for using Pico8!
Nice job! Feels like a solid, original idea that was executed well.
It's just good clean fun. Sometimes that's all you need in a game! Well done!
Nice job! It ends up getting quite frantic, and I like how it encourages you to multitask. It's certainly an original idea.
A fun take on the theme! Liked the funky music too
Nice job! I felt compelled to play for a long time which is always a good sign! Clean job with the graphics too.
Loved it! What an original take on the theme. These are the kind of jam games that stick in my mind for many jams to come. Well done!
Top marks for innovation as it's a very clever mix! Enjoyed playing it, but would have liked it to get harder a little faster (more colours etc.). Well done!
Really impressive stuff! Was not expecting to end up playing such an in-depth game from a jam, the amount of logic going on is clearly large and it didn't take me long to get the hang of it and start enjoying it. Great job!
Great job! The most expansive and polished game that I have played in this jam so far! Fun concept and great gameplay. Well done!
Nice work, like the simple art style, and am very impressed that the levels dynamically generate! Well done!
Really fun game! Spent ages playing this, almost a shame to speedrun it as there is plenty of detail and polish that has gone into it. Well done!
Good fun! Really solid game experience, nice upgrade system and some nice mechanics too. Well done!
Outstanding! The best game I've played so far this jam. A completely original concept that I haven't come across before, with loads of polish, a clear and concise tutorial to get playing, and it is genuinely fun! Well done.
Enjoyed playing this! Simple enough concept but the gameplay is genuinely fun and it feels a lot more polished in the menus and animations than most jam entries are. Very easy to pick up and play quickly too. Well done!
Cool concept and fits the theme well. Did find the controls a bit tricky as you often need to control the players whilst also upgrading things, but it has a nice upgrade system! Well done!
Great game! Enjoying the various card/hybrid games coming out in this jam, but this is my favourite. Challenging but quickly becomes tactical and rewarding. Well done!
Cool concept, it's definitely something that has the makings of a good game. I like how simple it was to pick up and get crafting things. Well Done!
Really enjoyed playing this! It's a unique concept executed very well, and the boss fight was great too! It's a compact but complete game with a good level of difficulty. Well done!
Fun game! It develops nicely as you play and doesn't throw too much at you at once. Gameplay is smooth and there's something about hovering mid-jump while deciding which way to move next which works very well. Well done!
@spthiel thanks for playing! Agree that the monsters are a bit sparse so I should probably add a few more in. And some hints to help people get started too!
@belga54 thanks for playing! I wish I had added some music and SFX in, ran out of time in the end (and the audio editor in Pico-8 confuses me a bit too!), but glad you had fun playing it!
@apace thanks for playing and for all the positive feedback! 195 is a great score, I only managed to beat that myself once!
@ciaranw sorry, I didn't make it all that clear, in order to catch fish, you must swing the rod across so the line lands in the middle of a puddle in the water. Once it hits, hold it there for a few seconds to hook a fish. Then hold Z to reel it in, whilst avoiding the piranhas. Thanks for the feedback!
@zanhava Great idea! Didn't think of doing something like that, but it would really add to the horror element. Thanks for playing!
@aterlamia Thanks for playing! My biggest regret is not adding any music or sounds to the game, I know it would helped a lot! Thanks for the feedback, it will be helpful for when I pick this up again after the jam.
Always good to see someone pushing the boundaries of Pico-8 and making destructible environments and things work! Its a fun game that has plenty of challenge. Well done!
Great game! This is the one I played the longest of all those I've played this jam. Nice upgrade system, easy to get used to and nice mix of character traits. Well done!
Really enjoyed playing this. Simple concept but it works really well! Also liked the fuzzy screen effects that helped set the mood. Well done!
Great graphics, and I do like a good visual-novel game, but the stealth element doesn't add anything to the experience which is a shame. I'm assuming if I placed something heavy on my X key then I can just sit back and enjoy the visual-novel! On the positives though, the art is very well done, especially on Pico-8!
