abdurrahman-khallouf 2020-04-20 02:32

hmmmmmmmm, nice game but I think I got stuck when it kept saying not enough baby needs heat

ironygames 2020-04-20 05:11

@abdurrahman-khallouf fixed a bug where that scene was monochromatic. Try clicking near the bed.

supergamersgames 2020-04-20 05:40

It kept saying the baby needs meat. And I was creeped out tbh.

thegamegoyal 2020-04-20 05:44

Really cool concept and graphics

ofirma85 2020-04-20 05:47

I did not expect that at all. The game is very captivating, very well executed. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a baby demon that needs some meat.

fiakaiera 2020-04-20 05:56

The game is well done! I love the minigames of each.

...that doesn't change about the baby though. But I think that is your intention. Baby needing meat, this spam in the end where you don't have enough. The idea of locking into stealing after stealing. Having no audio helps this creepy endeavor. Such is a reflection of parenthood to keep the child fed.

Well done! What a great entry~

You may need to opt out of audio rating, since there is none.

ironygames 2020-04-20 05:59

@supergamersgames try getting closer to the bed (right) and clicking on it.

sirsnowy7 2020-04-20 08:30

I figured out the bed after trying everything in the room. I love this game. Great twist, great concept, plot, atmosphere. You nailed it, man. High fives

ironygames 2020-04-20 08:37

@ofirma85 Ahaha, thank you very much. I hope the twist and build up were worth it, cheers.

@fiakaiera Yeah, you got it. I was trying to build up to it (how the expenses grow increasingly about the food, how the baby's diet changes within mere weeks). Hopefully it was worth it. And yeah, good point, opted out

@sirsnowy7 aaah this is the exact reaction I was hoping for. So glad you liked it! \o

zwodahs 2020-04-20 08:41

What did I just play ......... Good job

sneakycocoon 2020-04-20 09:03

WOW, JUST WOW! Brilliant small piece of game. How the story progress sometimes reflect our real thought of having a child  I was under intense moment where i wonder if the baby is gonna come at me for food. Very well done indeed.

chertkov 2020-04-20 10:07

In "Papers, please" you try to survive totalitarian state repressions, in this game you try to survive being a parent

bigtinygames 2020-04-20 10:12

cool game, but at first glance I didn't understand it (I thought I have to go to shop and buy milk for that demon kido. My favourite minigame is office worker, singer needs some tweaking in my opinion (snap to track instead of free moving)

syo 2020-04-20 11:01

Good cartridge.

wongkongphooey 2020-04-20 11:51

You managed to pack so much into this! Great to get to play a variety of mini-games, and as a fellow Pico-8 jammer, I can appreciate how much work must have gone into this, well done!

ironygames 2020-04-20 12:09

@zwodahs @sneakycocoon @syo thank you for your kind words, I hope you find the story to be entertaining

@bigtinygames I appreciate the feedback; indeed, I planned to have a supermarket scene where you had to pick your food but I cut it due to time constraints. And I agree, I could expand the singer more. Thank you!

@wongkongphooey Thank you, fellow Picoer! :) I definitely overreached on this one, haha, but I'm glad it had a positive impact.

saviqq 2020-04-20 12:29

Hehe really interesting! I managed to finish the game, here are some of my notes:

**Things I liked** - overall execution and style - different minigames, kept the game interesting and engaging - nice touch with different language translations

**Things that could be improved** - music and sound effect missing, it would add another layer of atmosphere to the game, especially if you choose Singer career path - sometimes it was confusing what's going on on the screen, I think because font was hard to read at times

Overall I feel I did an amazing job in such short while

connorthompson 2020-04-20 12:52

Really nice job mate, can't believe the amount of depth you squeezed into this in the shirt time frame! Good work

webox 2020-04-20 12:54

ahaha that went dark so quickly I dind't expected it.. That's not a baby sir... The ending is plain awesome, a great surprise. Really well done, loved it!!

jeremyfa 2020-04-20 12:58

You seem to have put a lot of work in it, nice job! Maybe some screens could deserve some more explanations, I was a bit lost! Nice pico-8 entry though ;)

sanjuro 2020-04-20 15:52

Well, this was totally unexpected, in the best possible way. The only way this could have been better was with some more sounds, but it's extremely good as it is already. Excellent job!

rhiz 2020-04-20 15:59

No matter how many Pico-8 games I make, I still mess up the O and X buttons. The baby art is really good. I feel like the turn undermined the themes for me.

rjerez192 2020-04-20 16:57

Nice concept. Graphics are nice yet I believe it requires better sound. I loved the ending, didn't like stealing stuff. The mini games where fun, specially the one from the singer job. Thumbs up for multiple languages!

johnjoemcbob 2020-04-20 17:48

Great collection of minigames! Love pico8 :) Well done!

jetthesimon 2020-04-20 19:00

This is very cool! Loved the twist! Great graphics and the minigames were fun enough before the real story kicked it. Nice job man!

ironygames 2020-04-20 19:37

@saviqq thank you, i appreciate the detail. I agree with the feedback. If I continue I'll fix the improvements

@jeremyfa @connorthompson cheers, dudes. I went insane at some moments due to the overreach haha

@rhiz same here, I'm considering just writing Z and X from now on

@sanjuro @webox @johnjoemcbob thank you very much for your comments, they make the effort worth it :)

@rjerez192 agreed, I had to cut a fair bit. I'll budget audio for next time

edearth 2020-04-20 19:51

Dude, I played this game in catalan and it made it too real for me. Too close to home. Molt bon treball! I loved the atmosphere and I loved the plot twist in the end.

kunonooni 2020-04-20 23:50

I literally screamed "WTF" at my monitor when I was near the bed during the baby needs meat sequence. Well done! Oh and the minigames were really cool. I laughed doing the singer as I was horrible at it.

ilprinny 2020-04-21 00:39

Oh my god this freaked me the F out, I was like "I will sing cause I have been doing office work, oh I lost 400 dollars, Stealing huh? im curious, oh.. now I can only steal, Oh this guy only has 300$, WHAT IS HAPPENING OH GOD NO PLEASE NO JUMP SPOOK" that was a really unique jam experience, the atmosphere was perfect.

No Jam game has gotten me like this, probably because people seem more mechanic oriented during jams like this. really good stuff, the fact there was minimal audio up until the stabbing made me super paranoid when the Baby needs meat started. "Baby needs meat" is just a freaky statements on its own.

commanderstitch 2020-04-21 01:22

This was amazing. Such detail for such a pico game!!!! each phase was very carefully thought out and the act of stealing at the end was brilliant. xD What's funnnny is the meat thing. oh wow it was like a horror show. hahaha

slimabob 2020-04-21 01:55

Haha great entry!! Loved the art style, but the font was kind of hard to read :)

pusheeneiro 2020-04-21 02:07

Wow, such a game in only 48 hours.

gimblll 2020-04-21 05:39

Oh my. No Meat for me. Baby can have it all. Oh my.

ubershmekel 2020-04-21 05:42

Brilliant. I tried my darndest for about 10 goes to excel at these professions. Learned my lesson. One bug I'd like to report is that in singing, the X and Z icons are switched, you currently need to sing X when you see the Z character.

ubershmekel 2020-04-21 05:43

Where's the source code? Currently it links to the same location as the game itself...

jeremy-ryan 2020-04-21 05:50

oh

ironygames 2020-04-21 08:04

@edearth ostres moltes grĂ cies ^^ glady suprised somebody used it. This message makes the translation efforts worthwhile. I'll keep it close to my heart in my next projects.

@kunonooni haha, thank you! that's the reaction I expected :) And yeah, I've gotten feedback that the singer could be improved (I agree), it's prolly not your fault.

@ilprinny thanks! I agree. A jam is a good place to experiment mechanics, but I wanted to see if I could make a story of this genre work. Glad you liked it! ^^

@commanderstitch thank you! Originally I had hoped to make an extra steal level and introduce some stealth meter, but time was running out. Maybe I'll revisit it after the compo.

@slimabob Thanks! Yeah I've gotten that, it's a pico8 thing. I'll think of alternatives next time.

@pusheeneiro @gimblll @jeremy-ryan hahaha, I hope I managed to surprise you but in a good way

@ubershmekel good catch. I'll definitely just type Z and X next time, everyone mixes X and O (including me, judging by the bug). btw the source code *is* on the page, just scroll past the description and look for a Download button.

steve-dragon 2020-04-21 09:24

Really cool graphics. The X-Z and X-O thing was a bit confusing at first, but the game itself was quite interesting. Some music would have really driven home the atmosphere, but sound design as is was cool. The minigames were quite fun and the slow descent was very well captured by gameplay as well as story. Overall, I think this is a very strong experience. Short but impactful.

daanvanyperen 2020-04-21 12:05

This turned so sudden it gave me whiplash. Thanks!

joshuarabbit 2020-04-21 13:53

Wow! I think it a cool idea to make a 8-bit style game! That is nice!

hcursino 2020-04-21 13:53

My baby starved to death  Cute graphics, challenging game play and interesting concept. Only side note would to be to add some quick instructions for each mini game, other than that, amazing entry!

gonzo13 2020-04-21 14:47

a couple good minigames in game. Nice concept.

incd021 2020-04-21 15:22

OK, that took a sharp turn, damn.. đŸ˜® Got a shock when the audio kicked in. Love the graphics, and gameplay. Games in games  Nice work.!

beepyeah 2020-04-21 15:38

A fellow PICO-8 entry! Nice work, could use a little polish, but very solid for a jam.

antaresvaldemar 2020-04-21 18:26

Wow that was...unexpected. I really liked it overall, the minigames were fun (although I didn't understand the farmhand one), great sense of humour and nice graphics.

ironygames 2020-04-21 19:27

@steve-dragon yeah, I'm aware of the button bug. And yeah many people've been requesting music, I guess I'll have to take a crash course for next time ^^

@daanvanyperen @joshuarabbit @gonzo13 @incd021 Thank you so much, all! I'm glad you could enjoy the twist :) I hope I foreshadowed it well

@hcursino fair enough, I thought no instructions added to the shock value but tbh you're right.

@beepyeah thanks! yeah haven't seen many of them around tbh

@antaresvaldemar I appreciate it my dude, yeah if I polish it I'll definitely add some tutorials.

joe-bustamante 2020-04-21 19:53

Wow, that was not the game I was expecting when I first started playing. But it was so good! I'm really impressed by this entry. I like the incorporation of different minigames - you actually feel like you're improving and different jobs. As others have noted, some background audio would be nice, and I think it would help ease into some of the sound effects that happen later on haha. Overall, this is awesome, well done!

lucisaurus 2020-04-21 20:50

very nice concept and I love the gameboy like style! nice job!

natan-wiegenfeld 2020-04-21 20:53

I had trouble starting the game. Maybe clearer directions for start up?

garys 2020-04-21 21:50

Damn, that got dark pretty quick... I hope everyone plays to the end!! It was kinda fun anyway, but when it switched, maaaan I was _not_ expecting that! Very nice work.

bruce 2020-04-21 23:18

Great stuff, I loved playing it. Awesome ending. The baby needs meat.

caveman54 2020-04-22 01:14

Great game I had a lot of fun playing. The farm mini game was a little hard to understand at first and felt really hard once I did.

big-chalupa 2020-04-22 05:22

Wow that went from zero to one-hundred real fast. great game though.

kiln 2020-04-22 06:36

Interesting little minigame-game. Bit confusing at first, but when I got the hang of it, it was kinda fun! And for PICO-8, the graphics aren't bad.

jamesolivermusic 2020-04-22 08:13

Incorporating different languages was a really nice touch! Very nice overall style, but music and sound effects would have added a lot more impact and feel to the game. The minigames were good fun also

verttixpertti 2020-04-22 08:36

The ending was great!

marxy-37 2020-04-22 11:30

I wish i had a choice, because i cerantly dont want to keep that "baby" alive...

In all seriousness, the game was excellent, very fun and all, but explain better to the player how job works, because if i didn't read the description i wouldn't even known that there is a +money/-joy mechanic.

Keep the good work up!!!

adsilcott 2020-04-22 15:08

Kind of reminded me of Papers Please in some ways. Very nice.

matt-greenbury 2020-04-22 20:49

haha didnt see that coming, was a fun experience. With that experience time to hand the controls over to daddy now.... goodbye

sludgekey 2020-04-22 20:59

Nice plottwist :D good way of mixing in some different mechanics and using the core! I really like how it had enough variety for a game you made in a weekend!

pushkan 2020-04-23 08:36

Z and X? O_o Why?

asue 2020-04-23 15:47

Love the art, very well realized. I liked the diversity of the mini games ! Good job =D

kjscott 2020-04-23 17:10

Hahah, the alternative ending! XD I didn't see that coming! So glad I got to play, and just the kind of genre I like, quite fitting the story as well considering the theme. Overall what can I say, it was well polished, everything that it did I think it did well. The only thing is I want more now, more meat for the player....

Glad to see another Pico-8 developer out here.

jonrei 2020-04-24 01:49

love this kind of graphics!

marcusnystrand 2020-04-24 10:41

Nice retro aesthetics. Great game idea, I can easily see this fleshed out to a full game with more minigames and stuff.

Keep it up!

neon 2020-04-24 17:18

What a spooky ending :o Really like the pixel art. A good set of minigames, though I was pretty bad at them.

fabrizio-spadaro 2020-04-25 07:51

Hell of a game, the graphic is really well thought, and the mechanics are rock solid, great entry!

lairinlair 2020-04-25 19:23

So you made it to a game about a dad and his son... Hahaha. Nice loop you had there, and the mechanics are fun. Good game

kaisean-games 2020-04-25 22:11

An interesting entry. A bit dark tho

The font seems a bit unreadable for some characters, and the farming is not really straight forward, but otherwise, very nice job.

Keep up the good work.

saulo-rosart 2020-04-25 23:36

This was a big game for only 48hrs! Great work! If the game had sound effects and music, would be so much better! Nice entry!

g-a-gamestudio 2020-04-26 03:06

The game was great and it was so good I don't have any feedback other than that you should make it WASD and JK for the controls.

ironygames 2020-04-26 06:38

@joe-bustamante noted! Thanks for the feedback :)

@natan-wiegenfeld Fair enough! (atm you gotta press Z)

@big-chalupa @matt-greenbury @lairinlair @sludgekey @verttixpertti @lucisaurus @garys @bruce @big-chalupa Thank you! I'm glad y'all liked, plus the twist :) I was afraid whether it would be too hidden or too on the nose, so I'm glad y'all enjoyed it.

@kjscott hahaha, careful now, you don't choose what meat you eat

@adsilcott That's high praise! Thanks!

@fabrizio-spadaro @saulo-rosart Thank you so much! And yeah I've definitely overscoped on this one haha, but I'm glad that it came out well

@kaisean-games yeah it's the engine's only font. I'll have to do something about that, thanks for the tip!

@asue @jonrei Very happy for your kind words, thank you!

@marcusnystrand @caveman54 @marxy-37 @neon @kiln Thank you for the feedback! Yeah if I continue to work on this definitely the minigames etc should get a revamp for more variety + instructions

@jamesolivermusic glad you like it! And yeah for sure this is inspiring me to go learn actual music to compose :D

@pushkan @g-a-gamestudio Yeah, this control scheme is the natural one for pico-8, but I think I can have a "right-handed" one put in :D

rewzu 2020-04-26 11:38

Interesting concept and quite well executed. Great entry!
