LD44 — Your life is currency

SubMoney by hbocao 2019-05-04T00:34:44Z

This was a really cool game! I didn't know what to expect going into it, but ended up liking it a lot more than I thought. The mechanics of actually playing a song were good. As some others have said, it would have been nice to have gotten some points for mostly hitting a note - it felt like the detection was a little unforgiving at times. It might also have been helpful if the key lit up when the note was in a good spot, even just to help give a bit of feedback as to when the user should hit the note.

The atmosphere of the game was really cool. I liked how people would flock around to hear, and how each station had a different taste. I actually loved the graphics - maybe they were simple, but I felt they really added a lot of the game. They also kind of contributed to a vibe of a game that takes place in a city where you can't play in the subway - a subtle hint of oppression or whatever, and the mostly gray/brown color scheme added to that.

Overall, this was a really cool game, well done!

Idle Idol by Daniel Moreno 2019-05-01T23:47:58Z

As I was playing this game and had the entire map covered in the gold temples, I asked myself... why am I still playing this? I'm just putting more buildings on the map. Now I'm just going to destroy all these gold ones and replace them with blue ones. And yet, even though I was thinking that, did I still keep playing until I won? Most definitely.

This was a super addictive game even without having much in the way of mechanics, so for achieving that in 48 hours: well done! That fact that you did it while adhering to the theme, having a great chill backing track, and really nice simple graphics that added to the aesthetic makes it even more impressive. This is an awesome game! I'd love to see this idea taken and enhanced by adding more challenge, or more things to do besides just building things.

Seaway by Constantin 2019-05-02T00:18:04Z

Definitely one of my favorite games of the jam so far. The overall aesthetic is out of the park. The graphics are absolutely stunning and I love the different biomes you include, and the ship models look great. The music is also great - gives off a kind of RimWorld-y vibe but works great in your game. The autopilot sound seems very familiar though - wondering where you guys got that from. Overall, a really amazing game, with good mechanics minus some occasional pathfinding issues. The only real issue I had was that it runs pretty poorly on my Macbook Pro, which is somewhat surprising but also somewhat not given that it's Unity.

goldenpixel by klekky 2019-04-30T03:02:51Z

I really loved this! You nailed a lot of the core mechanics. The threat level was really cool, and it felt realistic seeing people running for the door. The other guns you could buy also felt really good. Overall, huge fan. I think adding finite ammo or some other mechanic to make it more challenging might be good to do.

99 Days To Earth by Shaolin Dave 2019-05-02T00:01:17Z

This was a really interesting take on the theme - lots of other games with a similar idea around trading resources necessary for life, etc., but I think yours was definitely one of the better mechanical takes on that. I think you also did a really good job with the buyers and sellers that came through, and the frequency there. I was able to make choices about which resources were important, and sometimes some trades were good deals that would have been terrible at others, so that was really cool to see! The sound effects were between simple and hard-to-hear/scratchy at times. It took me a few days to really get the controls and what I needed to do, but your description that you added was really helpful. I think one way to improve the game going forward is to add somewhat of a skill curve or give the player some control over their own fate - maybe there are some controls where you can try dodging enemy attacks or something similar. Additionally, there's a ton of potential in the mood for this game - lost in space, under attack, trying to get back to earth. Definitely some really cool things you could focus on there. Overall though, a really good game and one I enjoyed playing! Made it to about day 70.

Space Gunner by GerardB 2019-05-04T00:21:45Z

The actual mechanics of the game here were so good! Really good feedback to shooting, and the actual feel of shooting (the sound effect, the shake, the enemy burst on death) were really well done. The take on the theme was pretty standard, and the graphics sometimes made it hard to make out what was going on (I did like the 2d on 3d background though). Overall, this was a ton of fun, definitely something I could see myself putting lots of time in if it was more fleshed out/more levels, etc. Well done!

Knit Worth by ColeSlaughter 2019-05-02T01:26:55Z

Man, this is an awesome game. The idea is so wacky but it works perfectly. You did a really great job creating the feel of the game - the footage in the background, the voice overs, the art in the beginning. The close-up of the nose was very SpongeBob-esque haha.

The game itself was also great - I like that you had a pretty clear idea of what the core mechanic was, and just executed on that really well. The only thing I'd say, and some others have said it, is that the dark blue nodes were a bit hard to work with.

I kind of wish there was some sort of a cue that they were about to turn red or something, even if that changed in frequency or time whenever a new dark blue one arose. I don't know, maybe that's a bad idea, but it feels like there's possibly something you could improve there.

Anyway, truly can't say anything negative - this was awesome and one of my favorite entries!

Die Back by NikolayKuznetsov 2019-04-30T02:35:51Z

This was awesome! The art style and interface you guys created was really cool. Definitely took me one or two deaths before I actually figured out what was going on, but it was pretty fun! The animations and different enemy types were also really cool. Overall, really good gameplay and style - the audio was alright but didn't really lend much to the game, but other than that, I'm a huge fan.

invertebrae by jjjjason 2019-05-01T03:29:35Z

This was awesome, really well done! The music was so good - really added to the vibe. You really nailed the graphics/ambiance from the game. I also thought the way you made the story interactive was really cool, and being able to go back and try different combinations was a great idea. Like others have said, I think this would really benefit from some kind of an indicator about whether you've tried all combinations. Overall, this was amazing though!

DISREGARD LIFE, ACQUIRE CURRENCY by notb 2019-04-30T02:48:14Z

The graphics are so good - the water, using the stars as a map, all really impressive. This is a really awesome idea and I'm a huge fan. Might be interesting throwing in some other gameplay mechanics - other things to find and interact with, for example.

Sheep It by anstabo 2019-05-02T00:59:14Z

Man, the feel of this game is so cool. The graphics are awesome, and the animations just make it all come together. The background music is also perfect (and the sound effects are great, especially the mushrooms haha). It also just runs and feels really good mechanically. Seriously, the production value is so good for a LD game. The only issue I had is that, after awhile, I didn't feel that motivated to keep tossing sheep into the truck despite the tools and robots that came to help. It would be cool if there were some other elements to the game, like the ability to build things that could help you, etc. There's a lot of potential to this game as far as continuing to expand the concept. Overall though, such a good entry. One of my favorites so far. Nice work!

King's Alchemist by Vlad Dae 2019-05-01T03:19:58Z

I really liked the game, well done! It has a nice challenge too it, but I think some of this is also because the UI doesn't really help with the time crunch. The graphics are really good. Would be great to have more levels or some other curveballs thrown in, but overall, big fan!

Sigillis by JUSTCAMH 2019-05-10T20:05:40Z

This really cool! I was really impressed with how accurate the detection was on what I was drawing - it would be interesting seeing how the game felt with more/less accurate matching, and seeing whether having a bit more forgiving detection would alter the gameplay that much. I thought the gameplay was pretty well balanced though, even though it didn't get very difficult until later on. The background track didn't add too much to the game, but I thought that the rest of the art and assets worked really well together. I'm impressed this was made for LD, a really awesome concept that you executed on really well - good work!

Life of the Party by Madbarron 2019-04-30T03:09:28Z

I thought it was pretty fun! The title of the game and the idea are a clever take on the theme, and being able to distribute life was a really interesting mechanic. I feel like there's a lot of potential here if there was a bit more added to the core mechanics, but this was a good game.

DEA-7H by b3agz 2019-05-02T01:11:51Z

This was a really cool game! I love the art style - really cements the aesthetic you're going for, and the feel of the game is on point. The core mechanic is a really cool idea, and I think you execute it well by having to balance asking questions with not tipping off the target, but right now it feels like the simplicity of what you can ask (only the same three questions, the only information you can glean is explicitly given) holds it back a bit. Others have come up with some cool suggestions - I think another would be that sometimes people you talk to reveal helpful information that isn't immediately obvious, or that you somehow make the player do some investigative work in that way. Overall though, definitely up there with some of the top games I've played this jam. Really good work!

Danko by Pixel_Error 2019-05-02T00:09:27Z

Awesome graphics and artwork, perfectly complimented by some great sound in the background. I think the idea of the game is really cool - lots of people had a similar take on sacrificing parts of yourself for boosts, but I think the way you guys did it with sacrificing your organs for different effects was really cool. One issue I had with the game involved hitboxes - it's hard to know where I need to be aiming at to hit an enemy. Additionally, I wished there was more feedback about when I got hit. The health bar would go down, but I wasn't really looking up there when there was like 5 enemies on me, so it would be nice if there was maybe some camera shake or some flashing somehow. Anyway, a really awesome game with a really high product value - well done!

Nine Lives by J Briggs 2019-04-30T02:40:53Z

Cool concept, pretty fun base. I think it could definitely be taken up a notch with some sort of an upgrade system or sound effects - something to change it up a bit, but I'm a fan. The needing to give up a certain amount of lives to move on was interesting.

Life Path by kristinnes 2019-05-02T00:42:22Z

A really good idea that was executed pretty well. I think it would have been a bit more fun if you could've made some choices on what to focus on as you went, rather than all at the start. Additionally, it didn't seem like your age really mattered much in determining which events came up or what happened, so that was a bit disappointing. The music and graphics are great though, and really give this game a nice aesthetic. The ending is cool - it made me replay the game a few times just to see how I could change it. A really awesome entry overall!

Money is life by Nova31 2019-04-30T02:54:59Z

Has a really nice feel, and good movement and exploration. It's a good looking game and there's a lot of potential. I think it would help to add some more guidance of some kind - I didn't really know what to do or where to go. Other than that though, it was great!

Root Maker by Joe Bustamante 2019-04-30T12:26:10Z

@madbarron @shaolin-dave @jomiak thanks for the feedback! It's much appreciated. Keyboard support is definitely something we'd like to add support for soon, and some on-screen controls/making it easier to interact with in general, but we just ran out of time during the jam. But yes, if you make enough Root you'll eventually unlock an influence tab, and after that there's even the option to start a cult - but it takes a bit to get there. We'll keep working on tuning the rate of progression so unlocking things comes at a good pace and you can do more than just currency. Thanks again - really helpful stuff for us to hear!

Root Maker by Joe Bustamante 2019-05-01T12:27:44Z

@akirassasin @game-coder28 thanks for the feedback! Having an "autosell at price" ability is a really interesting suggestion - definitely something I think we would like to add.

Root Maker by Joe Bustamante 2019-05-04T00:06:53Z

@ransom @sylvie @gentel thank you all for taking the time to leave some feedback and comment on the game! It's much appreciated. Some really interesting ideas in there, like speeding up the simulation or making the connection between events/influencing and currency prices a bit more explicitly. Additionally, that's a good point - there often isn't much incentive to sell right away when you can instead just wait for currency to drop to 1.0. Some ideas we've talked about for this include capping different currencies at different points or implementing trade fees. Thanks again for the feedback and for playing!

Root Maker by Joe Bustamante 2019-05-04T00:08:22Z

@maggardjosh @yubs @mertios @falak @calzep @flashviper thank you all for the feedback, and for taking time to play the game! Glad you all enjoyed it. Also @yubs that's an insane amount haha, well done. We're planning on fixing the text box issues soon.

Root Maker by Joe Bustamante 2019-05-12T00:02:20Z

@gerardb thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it! Those are all good ideas, and a few of them are ones we've had planned as potential additions post-jam. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment with them all (:

@bitdecay @jsd @davidsheadgames thanks guys, appreciate the feedback! Glad you liked it.

@cheesepencil @caleb thanks for the suggestions - none of us used a numpad and we had to implement our own text input component in our engine, so we totally overlooked it. So much for playtesting 🙃 But yea, numpad support is definitely on the to-do list, as well as providing mouse support for setting buy/sell amounts. Thanks for taking the time to leave some feedback, much appreciated!

@swen there was a bug previously where cult items couldn't be purchased or the buttons would sometimes be hidden - it should be fixed now, if you want to give it another go! Thanks for leaving a comment.

Delta Fighter by LiauJ 2019-05-02T01:19:48Z

Really cool game! It was really smooth, great production value. The core mechanics all felt really good. The only real issue I'd say is that there isn't much variety and sometimes it was hard to know if I was actually in the ring. Great work though, and awesome art and sound!

Undercave by NoobException 2019-05-02T01:15:21Z

I really liked this game! The mood is really good - the graphics are really cool, and the background music does a really good job complimenting this. The gameplay is pretty simple but fun, a good blend of survival. This is awesome for a first-time jam! The controls made it a bit hard to use at times and once or twice I was confused about an item, but overall I really liked this one!

Life for Likes by FM Studio 2019-05-10T20:10:56Z

Ha, this was pretty cool! I thought the concept was interesting and a cool take on the theme. The graphics here are awesome, and the dynamic selfies really gave the game some life. I was pretty impressed by that! The music/sound effects were good, but I found myself muting the game after a few minutes just because it was a bit much. The actual mechanics of the game worked pretty well though - I like the risk/reward of trying to get selfies with enemies (I guess they're just animals haha, but here they're enemies). Overall, this was pretty fun. I'm definitely a fan, well done!

D.R.I.E.D. by JasonD 2019-05-02T00:49:20Z

I could tell I would really like this game even from the preview image, but man, it was even better than I expected. The music and the graphics are so good. The overall feel of the game that you've created is awesome. It's like a more simple version of FTL in a different setting. There's a ton of potential here for continued work on this game in terms of more levels or areas to go through, more encounters, etc. The gameplay itself was pretty good, not much to it mechanically but the exploration made it fun. I agree with what some others have said - the game was short enough as is that whenever I hit an empty spot I felt a little sad. Overall though, an awesome game. Well done!

utsvulten by ditto 2019-05-01T23:20:19Z

Oh my. What a game haha. I can't really add too much that other people haven't said. Having better hitboxes or even some small highlighting to help know when you're over something that can be selected would be really helpful. But wow, the mood here is amazing. It's the perfect blend of creepy yet artistic - the sound effects and music really add to it too. Well done!

Skeleton's Gamble by chompdev 2019-05-04T00:14:25Z

This was such a cool idea! I like how you played with the theme - using different body parts as a means to solve puzzles was really clever, and you executed it really well. The puzzles here were the perfect balance of simple yet learnable - I never felt frustrated after dying, and I always had an "oh, that's what I need to do!" moment. The graphics were simple but worked with it, and the audio was great - nice background music, and the sound effects were pretty good. Overall, a really awesome game! Would love to play this with more levels one day.

Kaide and the Bloody Sacrifices by Kritz 2019-04-30T02:28:32Z

This was pretty fun - combat felt good, the effects and camera shake were really sweet, and the upgrades felt nicely paced. As others have said, the camera was a bit bouncy, and there wasn't much of a difficulty change over time. This was awesome though, really good work!

LD45 — Start with nothing

NOTHING TO LOSE by Seththefirst 2019-10-11T01:55:37Z

Wow, I'm really impressed with how good this looks for a game jam, even if you did grab all the assets online. It has a really good feel and runs pretty well online. The mechanics are pretty good - definitely reminds me of some classic CRPGs or ARPGs. It would be really helpful if you could see who was a friend or enemy without having to get close to them. At first, after I had hired the first camp or two, I was unsure of where to go. Also, a lot of my followers would get stuck or end up not fighting, which kind of disadvantaged me. It would also be sweet if the player character itself could fight. Otherwise though, this is a really cool idea and I think you could make a really awesome larger game from it.

Magic Shepherd by Kevin Prehn 2019-10-11T02:03:35Z

This is really interesting. As a full-time developer who does functional programming every day, i thought the way that you were able to codify that into a game was actually pretty helpful and well done. I agree with the above comment - it's a lot to have to take in and learn just from reading the game guide, and not having a built-in tutorial or examples makes it a bit more difficult. Even being familiar with FP, it still took me awhile to figure out what I needed to do. I think this has a ton of potential and could be expanded into a really cool learning mechanism for FP, though, and am really impressed at how you took this idea and ran with it for LD.

The Choice of Life: Middle Ages by Xakkar 2019-10-11T02:10:07Z

This was really interesting! I typically love games like this, like Reign, for instance. I think you did a great job setting up the mood of the game. Both the graphics and the audio are really good (especially a fan of the artwork on some of the cards). I wish there were more events, or some kind of random variation, so it was less of a deterministic path. Still, I played it through multiple times to keep seeing how far I could get and to go back and choose an option that didn't cause me to lose. Some of the choices seemed a bit odd - I'm not sure how some of them would have caused my character to die, and it didn't always feel like I had much agency over what I was choosing. Overall though, I really liked this. I liked the stories you could get by going through different paths, and I think this would be an awesome game if you kept adding more cards and some more variation to it.

Amor Fati by starvingindie 2019-10-11T01:43:43Z

This was really beautiful, which makes me especially impressed since it was for the compo. You crushed it with the graphics and the audio - the game has a really great vibe to it. I was a bit sad that just by clicking as fast as I could I could pretty much beat the game in a few seconds, so there's definitely some room for taking the core mechanic and expanding on it. But overall, this was really cool! Also, great to see some other Godot developers in this LD!

Ship It by dxk2294 2019-10-11T00:40:31Z

I love what you were able to accomplish as far as the game feel - it gets pretty hectic and stressful, but in a good way, and the audio definitely contributes to that a lot. Having all the instructions on the game page is really helpful but it's hard to read it all and process it. I'm really impressed by what you were able to accomplish for the jam with this - really great work!

Better than nothing by Fictions 2019-10-11T01:08:35Z

This is so good! My team had this same idea for the jam but ended up going with something else. I'm really impressed with how well you pulled it off though - the game is a lot of fun and surprisingly well polished. Having a leaderboard is pretty cool to get implemented for a jam. I thought the gameplay felt good and was fun. The only complaint I had was that it got really laggy when levels were starting and ending, especially near the end. Otherwise though, this was awesome - really great work!

When Nothing Came by velvetlobster 2019-10-11T01:39:48Z

Wow, this was beautiful. The overall mood of the game is so good - the music is great (especially near the end), and the hand-drawn graphics are beautiful. I love how evocative it is. It was hard for me to totally follow the message of the story (even though I got it by the end) since there isn't always a direct tie between the current state of the story/what I'm seeing and the gameplay itself. I really did love this though, and am super impressed you were able to create this for a game jam. Well done!

Dead Again by Joe Bustamante 2019-10-11T00:29:33Z

@onat-sayg @jordanvang @doug-graham @thepelranthean @faiorb thank you all for playing Dead Again, and taking the time to leave some feedback! Some more variety in both enemies and weapons was definitely up there on the "If only we had more time" list, and we could definitely make the controls a bit more intuitive. So glad you all enjoyed it!

Dead Again by Joe Bustamante 2019-10-11T00:30:28Z

@twelvoo @eog @sefirost @blotosaur @smileyface @mad-brokli thanks so much for playing! Glad you enjoyed it!

Dead Again by Joe Bustamante 2019-10-11T00:31:05Z

@tofuman sorry to hear you were having trouble moving - do you mean the WASD keys weren't working for you?

Roman & Ownin' by mharring 2019-10-11T01:46:56Z

This was really good! The fighting took me a second to figure out but it feels really good. I'm impressed with the mechanics you were able to implement. Our game ended up taking a similar look at the theme (ish), and we used some of the same tools (Godot +1), so it's really cool to see what direction you guys took it in. I wanted to play a few times to see how far I could get, so you definitely got some of the fun factor right. Well done!

Crypt Hero by belug23 2019-10-11T01:50:02Z

Wow, I'm really impressed with how fully implemented this is for being a LD entry! Really awesome work. There's still a lot of mechanics to be implemented, and there isn't much of a loop currently after the intro, but I think you've got a great foundation here if you ever did want to keep expanding on this. Seriously, this is awesome you got all of this done. Also, love the Dwarf Fortress vibe - not just the ASCII art but even the user interface is a nice homage to that and other text adventures and rogue likes.

HONK by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2019-10-11T02:00:11Z

Wow, this is one of the most polished games I've seen in LD45 so far. I'm super impressed. It felt really good to play - you got the mechanics down really well, and the animations and feeling of moving were so good. I love the whole idea haha. The graphics are also A+. Definitely impressed that you were able to get all this done over the weekend. The only thing that kept me from playing it longer was that, even though the gameplay itself felt really good, there wasn't much incentive to keep going. The pace of the game was mostly the same, and it got a bit hard to see with all the effects going on. Still though, wow - this is sweet. Really well done!

itemless by NachtWitch 2019-10-11T00:59:04Z

This was surprisingly fully featured for a compo entry. There is definitely some work to be done with the polishing side of things, and the balance of enemies vs. difficulty to survive and build feels like it could use some tweaking, but a lot of that just comes with time. I'm really impressed you made this all yourself. Well done!

Nothing On Frontlines by Pavel Ivanov 2019-10-11T01:28:34Z

I'm really impressed you were able to make this all in 48 hours! The core mechanics feel great. The shooting and building work super well, and I'm impressed how easily you integrated being able to switch between the two. The range of buildings was also really cool - I felt like I actually had a use for all of them (and was disappointed when the big pink guy clubbed my healer I had just laid).

I think the audio is a bit much - not that there shouldn't be sound effects for shooting (the opposite), but the current ones just feel overwhelming and detract a bit. It would also be nice if there was more of an indicator when you or an enemy get hit - maybe a bit of flashing or something. It was really hard for me to see health bars sometimes because of everything going on.

Overall, this was a really awesome game. I'm definitely impressed. Well done!

Mr.Grind by iozsaygi 2019-10-11T00:57:05Z

This was surprisingly addicting! Even after I had gotten most of the upgrades and knew I had pretty much exhausted the gameplay, I still wanted to finish it out to see how much money I could make with everything maxed out. The vibe of the game was great - very chill, good background music, and good basic graphics. The mining sound got a bit annoying after a bit but no feedback to give - this is a super polished LD entry. Well done!

A Field of Flowers by KeithSwanger 2019-10-11T01:22:21Z

Wow, this was amazing. Even though there wasn't much of a gameplay loop, per se, I still played it for probably a solid twenty minutes because of how relaxing and calm it was. I love the background track - it's so good, and really makes the mood of the game. The graphics are really complementary as well. I'm a huge fan - you took a simple concept, made it work with the theme, and made a game around it that is super peaceful and honestly a piece of art. Really great work!

LD46 — Keep it alive

PlayBack by Joe Cowman 2020-04-21T19:17:35Z

Dang, this is a really cool game. It's a really simple core mechanic but you nailed the execution. It's a perfect jam game - simple, fun, makes you want to keep playing, and the background music you used just adds to the overall ambience. Graphics are great. I'm really impressed by this, well done!

Tiny Fragments by Daniel Moreno 2020-04-21T14:16:02Z

Wow, this is awesome - kind of the perfect LD game. It's quick, simple, but makes you want to keep playing. You nailed the core mechanic and it works really well. Some of the puzzles got pretty difficult, especially after level 6. I loved it, really well done!. The audio and graphics really bring it together too.

The joys of parenthood by IronyGames 2020-04-21T19:53:57Z

Wow, that was not the game I was expecting when I first started playing. But it was so good! I'm really impressed by this entry. I like the incorporation of different minigames - you actually feel like you're improving and different jobs. As others have noted, some background audio would be nice, and I think it would help ease into some of the sound effects that happen later on haha. Overall, this is awesome, well done!

The Heart Pieces by Sticmac 2020-04-21T20:06:13Z

This is awesome! I'm really impressed you put this together for the compo. The overall mood of the game is great - you did a good job with the graphics and the audio. They really work together well. The game itself is fun too. You did a good job creating the core game mechanic and I genuinely liked playing it (and it also had a nice amount of tension + cool take on the theme with dealing with relationships). Overall this was an awesome entry!

Lich Clicker by Fictions 2020-04-21T19:50:33Z

This is so awesome! You guys did such a good job with the art and the audio. I'm impressed you got both of those aspects so fully-featured for the jam, and it really gives the game a high production value, even for a weekend project. I think the game feel is really nice too - the camera shake and click feedback are really good. This was really fun! The only thing I'd say is that it seems to kind of take too long to get the next story progression near the end - I had to just click for awhile before it happened. Also, there wasn't really any challenge to the game. Not a bad thing I suppose, I still wanted to see what happened, but it might have been interesting to incorporate some kind of a mechanic that made it progressively more difficult. I noticed my hunger meter seemed to be depleting quicker, but it still wasn't fast enough to really change anything. Overall though, this is a really impressive entry. Well done!

Civilitris by dasilvacontin 2020-04-21T19:29:47Z

As others have said, I think this is a great concept for a game. You've taken resource management and civilization building and combined them with tetris/2048, and it works out really well. I think not having a tutorial/general explanation of what you need to do does hold it back a bit, it took me a couple tries before I actually figured out what was going on. Also, is there a way to hide the quest log? It was a lot harder not being able to see the left side of the world.

Besides that though, I loved it. The graphics are simple but great. It's cool actually seeing your people grabbing resources. I think the core gameplay is really awesome, but just needs some further explanation and some quality-of-life stuff, like maybe being able to see the next tile coming, to really make it something that would be fun to keep replaying and trying to do better (also going with that would be some kind of a score or game over condition). Really nice work!

Distant Messages by wrimo 2020-04-21T20:03:12Z

This is a really cool idea! I think it's a really cool concept for a game and there's a lot of potential here. It might have been nice to give us some backstory as to who we are or what the relationship has looked like in the past, so you have some context for the messages you choose to send. Also, sometimes the messages I sent or received didn't seem to totally line up with each other - like you have the option to say both "sorry I missed your call" and "why didn't you call", but the game seems to assume that Mark just didn't call, regardless of what you said, so that seemed a bit off. But this is a cool entry, and I think something that has potential!

Wispering Away by raoz 2020-04-21T19:56:58Z

You wrote all of this in Rust and WebGL? That's really impressive to do over a weekend, well done! This is a cool entry. You did a good job with the ambience of the game and setting the atmosphere. It's a pretty simple concept at the core but I think the main game mechanic is done well. It would be cool if there was some other element or challenge to it that appeared over time, but for a jam game this is really good, especially considering the technical work you put into it!

Virtual Meeting Simulator by Joe Bustamante 2020-04-21T13:59:45Z

@lvl76blastoise @sydream thanks so much for playing! Appreciate the feedback. Yea, there was a bug with input handling that made it difficult to correctly recognize capital letters. This has been fixed and now all input should be correctly recognized! Thanks again (:

@aryanjumani @vivek-sharma20 @seriouslycrunchy thanks so much everyone for playing, glad you liked it! Yea, it does start off pretty easy (and the typing itself isn't challenging) but hopefully the difficulty picks up pretty quick as the resource management aspect kicks in. Would love to see the score you all were able to get!

Virtual Meeting Simulator by Joe Bustamante 2020-04-21T19:20:16Z

@joe-cowman wow, thanks so much for such awesome feedback! We really appreciate you taking the time to post all that, and for the really kind words (: Glad that you enjoyed some of the humor and found it pretty topical (as someone who also has spent the last month on countless virtual calls)!

Oaks & Pines by Argon 2020-04-21T20:12:07Z

Woah, this is so cool! The atmosphere of the game is great - the audio is awesome, and the graphics are really impressive for a game jam (can tell you were art students!). Once I got the hang of how to play, it was really fun. After awhile I wish there was a bit more challenge or some rewards to incentivize continuing on, but I wanted to keep playing just because the game is so calming and charming. Really well done!

Pirabbit by TimeTravelHamster 2020-04-21T20:16:39Z

This was great! The graphics and music really make the game feel good to play. The controls took me a bit to get used to but once I did I really enjoyed it. The additional mechanics like dashing really add to it, and the variance that comes later on with the birds and all really makes it fun. It would be kind of nice to have more of those types of elements, and potentially to introduce them earlier on so the game moves a bit faster. This is a pretty impressive entry though, well done!

Lonely Year by Shanzhai 2020-04-21T19:32:50Z

Nice to see a fellow Godot entry! This was really cool. It's a simple game. I died the first few times but once I figured out the different ways you can interact with stuff it got more interesting. The graphics and the audio work well and help give the game a nice feel without being obtrusive. I think it would go a long way to have some kind of a tutorial or a bit more explanation about what you can do. A really cool entry overall!

Bullets & Babies by David Bohan 2020-04-21T14:11:12Z

This was pretty fun! I think trying to keep a baby alive in the middle of a warzone is a pretty clever take on the theme. It feels good to shoot guns, and the graphics and audio are great - the particle death effects are a great touch. Would be nice to have more varieties of enemies or perhaps more on the screen at a time. Also was kind of frustrating getting shot by enemies that were still a bit off screen. Really good overall though!

Social Distancing For LadyBugs by mehrdadsh 2020-04-21T20:08:44Z

Woah, this was your first game jam? That's awesome, this is a pretty great entry, especially for the compo. I'm really impressed! You did a great job - the game is fun and the audio really makes it stand out. Being able to post high scores is pretty fun, I've liked seeing what other people got here in the comments. I had some minor complaints with hitboxes, but overall this is so good!

LD55 — Summoning

Call for Aid by AndyP 2024-04-16T13:42:31Z

This was a cool interpetation of the theme! I think there's a little work that could be done to make the platforming experience a little smoother - the player's position sometimes seems to register in weird spots, and it's a bit unforgiving (tiny bit of coyote time maybe?).

That said, this reminded me of a really short precision platformer. On one of the last levels, which had a lot more height to it, I got almost to the end but then missed a jump (totally my fault) and fell all the way down to the bottom. Felt for a moment like I was playing Bennett Foddy's "Getting Over It", but in a good way. I made a mistake that I could learn from, and it made it even more rewarding when I beat that level (after a few more tries ). Overall fun little short game, great work!
