LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Cult Under Construction by Neon 2020-04-20T10:29:57Z

EDIT: So this appeared on my ld46 filter. Huh. Well, here's the review.

I liked the story that you were building. I hope that you consider working on it further. An office take to magic cultism sounds entertaining to me.

If nothing else, I wish I could cast fireball on villagers :3

Sacrus by Drury 2020-04-20T08:31:20Z

This appeared in my ld46 feed. Huh. Well, I'll leave the review anyway.

"... Never in my life have I been called embarassinge. First time for everything.

Audio and graphics are release worthy. It took me a bit to figure out the mechanic but it was rewarding.

As feedback, I wish the enemies spawned on platforms randomly, to keep you on your toes. I'd zoom out and add more platforms too to give you a variety of available routes. Kinda like Joust."

LD46 — Keep it alive

Promethean Legacy: Fan the Flames by quill18 2020-04-20T15:28:54Z

This is so far my favorite game. I'm a sucker for games you could play table top, and this is definitely one of them. I haven't beaten it yet but I'll go back to it. I love the chance, the questing and the life systems.

As feedback, I think you could actually forego most of the tutorial, as the UI has explanations for it everywhere. The tricky part was understanding how the list of numbers was updated. At the beginning it was sequential, left to right. I wonder if that would make for a more challenging game?

That's Crazy, What? by commanderstitch 2020-04-20T07:21:38Z

I--what? That's, uh, crazy. Well, I guess it lives up to the title. Very crazy, but liekable :D

Of The Dark by cogcomp 2020-04-21T06:25:43Z

Hmm, it looks like a lot of work put into it, the terrain animations are captivating. It was tough knowing where I was and how the realm jumping affected me. Perhaps more focus on the minimap would have fixed it.

Eternal Flame by Galgris 2020-04-20T12:30:23Z

Haha, fun story! I think it's the only time I've seen firefighters as the bad guys. I like the sound design as well.

As feedback, consider adding some acceleration to the player. Going at the current speed feels unnaturally slow and makes some jumps a bit frustrating.

Filicide by Artylo 2020-04-20T14:05:10Z

It's hard to tell a good story in only 2 days, and this is a captivating one! Graphics and audio leave for a good presentation, well done. The gun rotation was very amusing, as you could point it to your own head :D

As feedback, I think you could've given more difficulty. I could just shoot straight non stop and the enemies would die off screen. Maybe something to deter me from doing that? Running out of bullets, bullets despawning after a lenght, or hitting the child would make me think twice before shooting

8 Degrees of Being Charlie McCandless by Simukas 2020-04-20T13:24:40Z

An interesting puzzle! I like the innovation that the pieces themselves have an expiration date. Not sure how to get the stability bonus though, but I liked it.

As feedback, I think you could improve the tooltips (show them sooner), and have some sort of levels, timer, or otherwise challenge to make me make decisions quickly and be challenged.

A drop of light. by cowa 2020-04-21T06:40:20Z

A charming style! I liked the sound design as well. I felt the enemies did not wander far enough for me to be able to wait them out. Also it'd been awesome if the plant started growing at the end, it would be a great payoff.

VillageQuake by Kontroman 2020-04-20T10:33:08Z

I need you to do my OSTs from now on.

It's a cool concept, I think it'd be great if you mixed it with some RTS like age of empires.

As feedback, some damage isn't as clear to some buildings, like fences. Maybe an outline would help to see?

HOLY SHIT I accidentally shot my friend in the stomach by unima9000 2020-04-20T13:19:29Z

Just from humor alone, this game is entertaining. The mechanic, while simple, is harder to control than thought, giving it some good challenge.

As feedback, I'd change the music to indicate that every level is different (same for background colors). Additionally I'd improve the grab feedback. It was my instinct to keep holding the mouse button, so it didn't work very well. Having a sound or keeping the hand closed on click would help discern how to grab.

Human Spiderweb by miziziziz 2020-04-20T15:43:44Z

Oooh, creepy, I like it. I have a feeling these space pirates aren't the bad guys, at least by the voice clips. The rope mechanic is very interesting as well, although I don't know if the hunger meter is too challenging. Anyway, great concept and a very pretty execution.

Catertainment by adsilcott 2020-04-21T15:32:40Z

Hmm it's a new take on the juggle game, but when there's more than one rat in the screen it's hard not to kill them as you want to get to them asap, since them running off deducts points too. Maybe having that gone would make the game a bit more reasonable!

Pas by Lukuluk 2020-04-21T11:57:51Z

Hmm, the graphics look very interesting. Did you replace every mesh face with a circle on rendering? Unfortunately I can't play it, as it runs at about 0.5 frames per second on my computer (Windows7, i7 CPU)

Pizza with a Pulse by slimabob 2020-04-20T14:47:35Z

Hey, who wasn't delivered pizza and vital organs?

Very funny; I'm a sucker for the voice clips and the explosions. I would give feedback, but every glitch I find just adds to the game. I guess I would like a nitro button. You know, fly off.

Fishing Around by TheGameGoyal 2020-04-20T12:46:21Z

They... Kiss?! What's next, they're going to hold hands?!?

Relaxing game. Seeing the population increase has a zen factor for me.

As feedback, I've found that I prefered to spam click rather than to aim for rare fish. Since the sea was so full, I figured I'd eventually select a rare fish. To solve this, maybe you can give fish a "lifespan" and remove them afterwards. You'd keep the score but the sea would be scarcer, forcing the player to think it through and chase the rares.

The Unicorn and the need for coffee..! by INCD021 2020-04-21T11:40:46Z

I really thought I could just leave the gate open, but nope.

It's a cool simon says spinoff, for sure, and funnily random. I think I would improve the graphics and add animations to give it further charm. I was a bit confused at what a flower was, since it was the size of the character, haha

Zombie Cure by thx4nothing 2020-04-20T13:54:37Z

I see what you were aiming for, kind of a CoD zombies meets king of the hill? I'd like a bit more lighting to better control the zombies, and maybe some time to barricade and get my bearings. Good effort!

Also your pal being a mummy is just hilarious

The joys of parenthood by IronyGames 2020-04-20T05:11:54Z

@abdurrahman-khallouf fixed a bug where that scene was monochromatic. Try clicking near the bed.

The joys of parenthood by IronyGames 2020-04-20T05:59:50Z

@supergamersgames try getting closer to the bed (right) and clicking on it.

The joys of parenthood by IronyGames 2020-04-20T08:37:21Z

@ofirma85 Ahaha, thank you very much. I hope the twist and build up were worth it, cheers.

@fiakaiera Yeah, you got it. I was trying to build up to it (how the expenses grow increasingly about the food, how the baby's diet changes within mere weeks). Hopefully it was worth it. And yeah, good point, opted out

@sirsnowy7 aaah this is the exact reaction I was hoping for. So glad you liked it! \o

The joys of parenthood by IronyGames 2020-04-20T12:09:15Z

@zwodahs @sneakycocoon @syo thank you for your kind words, I hope you find the story to be entertaining

@bigtinygames I appreciate the feedback; indeed, I planned to have a supermarket scene where you had to pick your food but I cut it due to time constraints. And I agree, I could expand the singer more. Thank you!

@wongkongphooey Thank you, fellow Picoer! :) I definitely overreached on this one, haha, but I'm glad it had a positive impact.

The joys of parenthood by IronyGames 2020-04-20T19:37:22Z

@saviqq thank you, i appreciate the detail. I agree with the feedback. If I continue I'll fix the improvements

@jeremyfa @connorthompson cheers, dudes. I went insane at some moments due to the overreach haha

@rhiz same here, I'm considering just writing Z and X from now on

@sanjuro @webox @johnjoemcbob thank you very much for your comments, they make the effort worth it :)

@rjerez192 agreed, I had to cut a fair bit. I'll budget audio for next time

The joys of parenthood by IronyGames 2020-04-21T08:04:19Z

@edearth ostres moltes gràcies ^^ glady suprised somebody used it. This message makes the translation efforts worthwhile. I'll keep it close to my heart in my next projects.

@kunonooni haha, thank you! that's the reaction I expected :) And yeah, I've gotten feedback that the singer could be improved (I agree), it's prolly not your fault.

@ilprinny thanks! I agree. A jam is a good place to experiment mechanics, but I wanted to see if I could make a story of this genre work. Glad you liked it! ^^

@commanderstitch thank you! Originally I had hoped to make an extra steal level and introduce some stealth meter, but time was running out. Maybe I'll revisit it after the compo.

@slimabob Thanks! Yeah I've gotten that, it's a pico8 thing. I'll think of alternatives next time.

@pusheeneiro @gimblll @jeremy-ryan hahaha, I hope I managed to surprise you but in a good way

@ubershmekel good catch. I'll definitely just type Z and X next time, everyone mixes X and O (including me, judging by the bug). btw the source code *is* on the page, just scroll past the description and look for a Download button.

The joys of parenthood by IronyGames 2020-04-21T19:27:19Z

@steve-dragon yeah, I'm aware of the button bug. And yeah many people've been requesting music, I guess I'll have to take a crash course for next time ^^

@daanvanyperen @joshuarabbit @gonzo13 @incd021 Thank you so much, all! I'm glad you could enjoy the twist :) I hope I foreshadowed it well

@hcursino fair enough, I thought no instructions added to the shock value but tbh you're right.

@beepyeah thanks! yeah haven't seen many of them around tbh

@antaresvaldemar I appreciate it my dude, yeah if I polish it I'll definitely add some tutorials.

The joys of parenthood by IronyGames 2020-04-26T06:38:00Z

@joe-bustamante noted! Thanks for the feedback :)

@natan-wiegenfeld Fair enough! (atm you gotta press Z)

@big-chalupa @matt-greenbury @lairinlair @sludgekey @verttixpertti @lucisaurus @garys @bruce @big-chalupa Thank you! I'm glad y'all liked, plus the twist :) I was afraid whether it would be too hidden or too on the nose, so I'm glad y'all enjoyed it.

@kjscott hahaha, careful now, you don't choose what meat you eat

@adsilcott That's high praise! Thanks!

@fabrizio-spadaro @saulo-rosart Thank you so much! And yeah I've definitely overscoped on this one haha, but I'm glad that it came out well

@kaisean-games yeah it's the engine's only font. I'll have to do something about that, thanks for the tip!

@asue @jonrei Very happy for your kind words, thank you!

@marcusnystrand @caveman54 @marxy-37 @neon @kiln Thank you for the feedback! Yeah if I continue to work on this definitely the minigames etc should get a revamp for more variety + instructions

@jamesolivermusic glad you like it! And yeah for sure this is inspiring me to go learn actual music to compose :D

@pushkan @g-a-gamestudio Yeah, this control scheme is the natural one for pico-8, but I think I can have a "right-handed" one put in :D

Light in the Dark by SirTyler 2020-04-20T21:59:03Z

The size of the character and the dangling chain makes for some very bizarre picture, I like it. It's a bit too floaty for my taste, and it would really benefit from visual feedback when the companion was hit. Still, I hope you keep it up :)

Solais by dragonxvi 2020-04-20T19:06:33Z

Damn, you really pushed the limits of a pico cart with this one! The graphics are amazing, the sound is good and I'm very intrigued on how the lighting is done. Reminds me a bit of celeste+spelunky. Well done!

For the king! by OfirMa85 2020-04-20T10:45:40Z

Very well made tower defense game. I prefer them when I'm given a character, so I don't have to wait and gaze at my king being killed due to my poor planning. I also like how you can collect money from the ground and not just from killing enemies.

As feedback, I'd like to have upgrades for my knight: speed, power, range...

Hacking is Probably Not Like This by sayumeki 2020-04-20T10:08:50Z

Wow, very nice adaptation of these minigames. Gluing it together with a hacker vibe really gives it punch. I just wish there were some more bleeps and terminal-y sounds. Very good!

Social Distancing Simulator by Ruoyu 2020-04-20T21:54:08Z

Cool idea and very topical! It shows you've put a lot of effort in the display, although I wish I could zoom out to see all of the households. And allowing game parameter configuration through queryParams is genius!

As feedback, I wish every night the day would pause waiting for my action to see how the people change their behavior clearlier.

juxta.LINE by fiaKaiera 2020-04-20T05:43:31Z

Very cool concept. The inputs are easy but man is this game hard. Anyway, it's really satisfying and create a rhythm.

To most games like this, my feedback is please allow IJKL keys next time for lefties :)

Bump N' Jump by beanslasher 2020-04-21T06:36:15Z

Cool twist on the endless climb genre. I found that spamming platforms worked pretty well. you might want to add something like spawn timers or obstacles to force the player to have a more critical approach to playing :D

Exolvuntur by PxGluz 2020-04-21T06:15:49Z

Hmmm, I like the presentation and the story, but I think the retrying is a bit too harsh. I understand it's short but it feels frustrating when I can't study the ghost's pattern for too long, for instance. And since it blindsides the player, that's hard to do too. Anyway, very good graphics though, entertaining.

Candy's Dream Egg by CosmicCrystalGames 2020-04-21T14:39:19Z

Great execution! It really felt like something you could find on the GBC.

As feedback, I do wish there was some acceleration to the character's movement to make it more natural to control.

Moluski by Piko Monde 2020-04-20T10:21:10Z

Very fun puzzle! Having to think how your actions impact another screen you can't see reminds me of old Point n Click adventure games.

As feedback, I'd recommend making the navigation arrows stand out -- for the first 3 minutes I couldn't see it. Maybe white or a pastel orange.

Plant life - My LD 46 Game by AcidViper 2020-04-20T06:33:04Z

Nice game. The bullet and shoot speed make it challenging.

As feedback, maybe try turning the music lower? It's good, but the high pitches get grating after a while.

Pet Life by ForeverTrash 2020-04-20T08:57:16Z

I want transparent trees.

It's a neat idea with some good presentation. I think it'd need a mechanic aside from buying + feeding, like minigames to earn money.

As feedback, I'd really like to have an item counter in my inventory. First time around I didn't know why i couldn't use the items, turns out I spent them all.

Heavy Petting by WongKongPhooey 2020-04-20T12:02:58Z

Hahaha, I'm loving the next gen of tamagochis. It was short but sweet. Even after the tiger was chomping at me, I couldn't help but keep petting the lil' cat.

As feedback, I would encourage you to continue working on this. Maybe you could structure it with levels, each one having a different apex predator.

Long Live The King by JavaSaurus 2020-04-21T14:35:35Z

Hey! Not bad. I went thru a couple of safehouses, does the game have an ending?

A good way to show progression easily would be to have different guard types for different legs of the journey; maybe even different moves you could learn along the way.

Anyway, I loved the Yoshi approach to parenthood.

Peculiar Farming by Arcus 2020-04-20T19:24:44Z

That's not how eggs work :D

Fun game, the quests really give it a feel of progression.

As feedback, I'd try to give more crop variety and allow the farmer to do other things like watering.

Feed the Fire by Rob Parker 2020-04-20T21:35:04Z

Funny twist. When all the mechanics you have is pick up and toss into the fire, you can see where it's going right away. Very funny that they only shout as if you were pinching them, haha!

As for feedback, maybe you could give some more time and the fire. I also found that not being able to feed the kiln from above to be a bit frustrating.

Egg Mother - Keep It Alive! by Barrier 2020-04-20T21:43:27Z

That was very cute :) the enemy amount progression feels smooth and challenging, and the game is just long enough to be fresh. I think you would benefit from some music and some more animations like the cat dash.

Coronary Flypass by squirmonkey 2020-04-20T07:58:50Z

Hi, can you please narrate my life please?

Surprisingly fun. It has that moonlander feel / fun frustration to it, and very funny too. It has a lot of potential!

I found a bug where you could get above the ceiling clouds but not get back below them.

Ice Ice Baby by Fabrizio Spadaro 2020-04-20T12:38:30Z

Cool concept. It's surprising what you effects you can create with just a bit of a camera tilt :3 melting ice is a great way to code a timer in your game's story.

For feedback, melting only happens when you're on the ground. I find myself hopping to avoid it. Is this intentional? It feels overpowered.

Keep Bob Alive by Motoki 2020-04-21T15:04:19Z

It's a cool concept to have your health also be a danger. The game would definitely benefit from the player having more things to do, like giving bob a shield, or push zombies away, or make ashley invulnerable for a bit. Maybe you could even try to collect 20 cures to end the game.

Yes, Mr. President! by HowlingShame 2020-04-20T08:25:03Z

Very cool concept. I found myself mass tackling people as the crowd got too big. I love that that worked.

As feedback, maybe lower the volume of the sound. But overall, very entertaining.

Captain! Captain! by SuperGamersGames 2020-04-20T05:35:20Z

How did you make a game so stressful in 48h.

Good job! This really is fun and can see myself playing for a while. As feedback maybe we could rotate the aim with the arrow keys?

Brain Training 101 by DigitalLimestone 2020-04-20T08:06:18Z

Buddy this game almost made ME forget how to breathe.

I live stress management games, and the way you introduced all the elements progressively really helped. When I saw the wee and poo bars I was like "really"?

As for feedback, I'd like the keys to be rebound / more comfortably bound. Maybe it was your idea so as to keep the hand moving?

Anyway, for a lefty it'd be much comfortable if they could be on the right side of the keyboard :)

KEEP THE PARTY ALIVE BABY by Taximan981 2020-04-20T05:30:53Z

Hey friend, the download link only has a .lnk file (shortcut). Maybe you uploaded the wrong file?

Keep the marriage 'alive' by MarcoMing 2020-04-21T11:50:31Z

Aaah, it's a cute WarioWare style game. I love it. All feedback I can give is please more minigames :D

Spirit Quest: Journey to Devil's Mound by TheseusInABottle 2020-04-20T14:36:09Z

There's clearly a lot of polish put in this game. The graphics look clean and the music is :100: .

But most of the time I feel less like trying to read the enemy and more trying to trick the AI behind it. I think this is because both me and the enemy have the same moves (albeit with differing stats) and because meditate often repairs many turns of effort.

I'd encourage you to keep working on this game as I think intelligence and move variety are key to an entertaining rpg.

Fuel Hungry by WubbaDuck 2020-04-20T12:54:57Z

I like how your life is your light radius. Maybe you could make it more defined so we have a better measure of how much time we have left. A bit of zoom would be nice as well.

Tutu Tussle by GabrielH 2020-04-21T14:44:58Z

Quite a funny take on ballet. The spring sounds are on point, as are the graphics.

As feedback, I'm more familiar with Mario's propeller cap, where clicking down makes you dash down only for as long as you hold it, instead of commiting until you're on the ground.

Save Dave by Kirbloid 2020-04-21T06:50:50Z

Hahah, okay that was a funny blend of genres. I think you got the challenge down well, I could not finish a dave's task or a monster off at once, I had to alternate between one and the other. As feedback, I think I would have liked better sound and effects from shooting to make it sound harder, like a gunshot.

HiJinx by DarriasArt 2020-04-20T07:31:52Z

Amazing drawings. Reminds me a bit of doodle jump.

I wish there was a play/replay button of sorts so i could more easily try again.

It Lives by Sbug 2020-04-20T11:08:24Z

Wow. Amazing. I'm into the horror you're putting down. The fact that its growl gets audible only after you start feeding it is amazing.

As feedback, I'd increase the light radius a bit. i know it's to create ambiance but many times I was unsure where I was going.

It's a great self closing game, and well presented. Superb!

The Beat Keeper by SplendidDog 2020-04-20T06:29:57Z

Great art and sound, good job. The concept is pretty funny, and would like to see this guy at an actual concert.

As feedback there's something counterintuitive to me to have to do 2 inputs to smack a beat (move away, move in). maybe you could separate movement and smack?

A highscore would also be great to give the feeling of progress.

But overall, really cool!

Primed by gimblll 2020-04-20T21:44:32Z

I wonder if there's any message to this one  very funny. Sad that it's short though, I'd have loved to actually play it!

SIMULATION by ZevsEHG 2020-04-20T06:13:25Z

Wow, very creative! It's like taking Gary's mod into a physics puzzle. Never seen it before, bravo.

It'd be great if the camera direction persist between transformation, right now it jumps a lot.

Also, there's a bug with gaining height with the paper plane.

Keep the flame alive by Dimling 2020-04-20T12:52:05Z

It's a good start and some nice graphics. I enjoy the idea of being lost in a forest full of spiders, very creepy.

As feedback, I'd give the player something... else to do while running from spiders. Maybe a short dash, maybe something to push spiders away. As it stands this game is a dodge and find, and I feel it could have more depth.

just a boring topdown shooter by Kinshuk_thebest 2020-04-20T09:11:06Z

I hear the artifact unlocks the secrets of good 3d rendering.

I'm a sucker for self aware characters. Ironically, since there is no ending other than failure, the narrator is always destined to win.

Good narration :) As feedback, I'd at least have liked for the agents spawn coordinates and speeds to be randomized. Being taunted while beating a more difficult challenge is very rewarding.

Tears of Coffee by Milestone Games 2020-04-21T14:56:53Z

Hi, neat concept! I think you have a good foundation. Most of my feedback is hoping for it to expand. At some point I was hoping that you could combine ingredients from both machines like bun+coffee = cinnalatte or something.

For a quicker improvement, definitely up the speed on the game to make it more challenging ^^

Planet Parasites by Danilo Sadzinski 2020-04-20T09:34:29Z

Great array of abilities and things to do and good presentation! I like investing in trees to keep your power up.

As feedback, I'd limit the sound of spammables (like bees). I'd also make the bees shorter, as a horizontal wipe move is pretty op (preferrable to #1)

Protect the Pup! by Maindric 2020-04-20T07:26:38Z

Cool ships, bro. If we ever get into space I'll adorn my spaceship with a giant disembodied human head :D

Neat little game.

I wish I could see the turret shots. Also I'm pretty sure at some point after the 2nd turret the tractor beams don't work. I stood inside some and didn't get carried off.

Fighting Footwork by Wolfier 2020-04-20T05:39:14Z

I'm of the same opinion as quichi.

The graphics and sound are very cool, there's obviously a lot of work put into it.

I'd like to have some tutorial to see how to read the AI and beat it.

The Genie of Light by Wilko 2020-04-21T14:50:54Z

A curious concept! Although I found myself shining as bright as possible always, to allow myself better control of the place.

Maybe there could be an ever present small radius of light around the character? The light at its lowest form is not very useful, as you need to explore the map anyway even in low health.

The IT by troll_hunterX 2020-04-20T09:22:57Z

Hmm, I'm liking the style and sound. The concept is nice and I'd like to see what's so special, perhaps behind that door?

But the time you're given and the ones the fruits give you is too short to do much exploring. Maybe I'm feeding wrong, but the cherries don't seem to lengthen my lifespan.

Satisfy'n: Keep the Love Alive by BlackOpsBen 2020-04-20T15:38:09Z

Hahaha, what charm! It reminde me of stick rpg from way back when. It's even got a little secret. I do wish there were an ending after everything is unlocked, though, some kind of closure. Anyway, very good!

Unlucky Day by landsykes 2020-04-20T21:11:39Z

Good work! Usually in these games you only need to tap, but here you have to combine elements and hold items for a while, which is pretty new. A zoom would have been helpful, and some sound would have added to the "death" variety.

Fermi Paradox by tversteeg 2020-04-20T10:36:51Z

Fun concept. The upgrades feel like game changers, and the graphics are schmuck as heck.

As feedback, I'd ask for a timer to see how much is left. Also maybe allow upgrades a little earlier? by wave 3/4.

Keep Yourself Alive by Ege686 2020-04-20T14:25:31Z

...qBert?

I like the isometric perspective and the whole premise of the game. Hearing that lil' fella talk is funny.

As feedback, I'd improve the UI. having the high score in the middle of the screen distracts from the zombies. Also I'd indicate somehow that the ammo is reloading and usable for all weapons. Perhaps a loading bar that gets full every time we get 1 ammo back.

Resurrection plan by NIKond 2020-04-20T05:25:42Z

You know, despite knowing the math behind the concept it's still really hard, haha!

I liked it, you definitely turned a generic concept into a creative story.

As feedback, I think it'd be good that the segment divide lines be more prominent. And maybe if you could drag a summoner from one segment to the other (found myself doing that a lot).

Balloon Balloon! by JetTheSimon 2020-04-20T08:41:59Z

You captured something me and my sis did as children. We thought we were mad inventors. Guess it's common!

Making a 2 player game in 48h is ambitious, but you really balance the difficulty by bonking the players of off each other, haha.

As feedback, I'd remove the balloon outline. I imagine you put it there to make it stand out, but since we're following the shadow anyway, I find it actually distracts you.

Fix the engine by VeniTheRich 2020-04-20T05:55:34Z

It's a lot of fun, if very stressful. I managed to get a feel for the levels and then it was more manageable. Maybe I'd've enjoyed it more if the 4 faces were all on screen, but only 1 was enabled; to let the player know you can change face.

Gluttony by Prackli 2020-04-20T22:01:40Z

Cute looking game! The jump is too hard for my taste, as it moves the camera very violently; perhaps it would benefit from some more air time.

Flower Defense by Evolving 2020-04-20T07:06:25Z

You've got the basis of a good game down; i'd like to see wave variety, and maybe some upgrades.

As feedback, I was expecting to dash in the direction I was moving, not facing. Also there are some blind spots where the sword doesn't reach, vertically. I'd have liked to be able to aim upwards.

Remember his Name by Adinimys 2020-04-21T14:30:12Z

Definitely a unique experience, I like how the challenge is less inside the game and more inside your mind, trying to decypher what could appease each crowd coming from the description.

As feedback, I'd have liked if every unique verse came with its own tune, so I could feel more like crafting a unique story each time.

Lighthouse Keeper and the Shadow Pirates by cagibi 2020-04-20T17:07:47Z

Quite fun! The mouse follow movement is always challenging to use, and I like the powerup shot from the lighthouse. Too bad the scoring doesn't work.

I liked the cutscene and its presentation, I'd play a game with a followup of that story :)

Let's stick together by syo 2020-04-20T12:06:17Z

As terrible as I am in chess... I'm even worse here.

Well executed and presented. Usually in strategic movers you only control one player. To have a squad of characters each with its own rules gives you a lot of dimensions in which to think about your solution.

As feedback, I'd ask that if I click when somebody is speaking it doesn't jump to the next sentence, but rather it finishes typing the current one. Like pressing B in Pokémon.

Flammo - Keep The Fire Alive by Team Prosit 2020-04-20T14:52:30Z

I like the acceleration physics in there as well as the light radius acting as health.

As feedback, I would expand coyote time (that is, allow for a greater walking length than the platform looks like). I always felt like I fell off a platform too son. Also some ambient light, even if it's just a bit.

Nature by rjerez192 2020-04-20T21:17:19Z

That's a lot of mechanics to do in a single compo, congrats! It really feels like a full strategy game. The idea of having population control is new to me, and pretty interesting.

As feedback, I think you could keep the resources' %s on at all times, to see them quicker.

Rainy Day by Mat_Mox 2020-04-21T06:33:08Z

Very charming! Having a story in such a short period is impressive. I feel this game is stealth redefined. I would have liked some sort of moving obstacles to add to the challenge, as well as being able to control the fox's direction with the mouse.

Corona Grocery Run by sneakycocoon 2020-04-20T10:26:36Z

Nice highscore / story sistem, although I'm not sure what to say about the stereotypes

Save the station by Alexander Termer 2020-04-20T14:56:34Z

Clean minimalistic look. I'm really digging the power line mechanics: instead of a fixed amount of spaces, here you can build your own towers anywhere -- assuming you can afford it.

As feedback I'd go one step further and create obstacles where we cannot build, and even objective zones for us to reach with transmitters and defend.

What a horrible night... by chertkov 2020-04-20T12:13:47Z

... To have a curse.

Good concept. Vampire with a tommy gun is a nice approach, and the style is on point.

As feedback, I'd tune the difficulty. The enemies catch you very quickly, but you can spawn bite and pretty much be safe healthwise. I'd lower the efficacy of the bite.

Save The Puppy by Kerpter by merttugkan 2020-04-20T14:18:22Z

Oh man, the story alone was incentive enough to keep trying. Very raw!

As feedback, maybe add some hard to reach objects that restore comfort, so as to give you an easier chance on later levels.

Space Station Alpha by kjscott 2020-04-20T13:00:54Z

Very ambitious, especially to make it fit in a pico-8 screen. I admit there's times where I don't know what I'm doing, but the heartbeat gives a very tense atmosphere that entices me to keep playing.

As feedback, I think this game would benefit from a checkpoint system, i.e. save when you get the suit. It's short, but it's a bit frustrating to go back to the menu to try again.

Medic! Keep'em Alive by Robert Li 2020-04-21T06:44:01Z

Very retro! It's cool to find a scrolling schmup where you actually do something other than shoot.

The game would have benefited from some feedback as the crosses appeard (sorta like a "ding"). Also I feel the healing could just start as long as you're close enough, as that's your only purpose anyway.

YOUR RAGING SPIRIT by madbookstudios 2020-04-20T10:13:13Z

Man, this game really feels good. The camera shake when hitting bears is satisfying. Having to throw them off reminds me a bit of smash bros.

As feedback, I see you can juggle enemies in the air with W. Since you have to wait for them to come down to hit them again, I'd really like it if you could chain the side attack with juggle to send them flying away.

Ozwomp Is Arriving by Melonking 2020-04-20T21:21:25Z

Bizarre! The colors, audio and general tone describes "dreamscape" to me. It reminds me of LSD: Dream Emulator. Drag-move with the RMB is also new to me and makes movement that more interesting.

I couldn't get anything to happen, I guess I had to wait further?

I'd really like to see a bigger world like this one put in front of me to explore :)

Rock. The Game. by jaschez 2020-04-21T06:19:36Z

I like it, the story was pretty funny. It reminded me of the run sections from Sonic Unleashed/Generations. Just a bid sad that it was so short, the different obstacles could have had different "kill animations" to contribute to the game's variety & humor.

Keep Adventurer alive by bigTINYGames 2020-04-20T12:19:03Z

It's fun to try and keep him alive, but I think I'd prefer some progression thru levels, kind of like bit.trip. And I enjoy that you can press willy-nilly and trap yourself, very clever.

As feedback, I would replace the arrows with outlining clickables, as they clutter the screen easily.

CampFire by MatheusBorba 2020-04-21T15:08:55Z

Hmm, I like the concept and the ambiance, but I would have liked a bit more in the way of a challenge than a scavenger hunt. Maybe put some wolves for me to avoid, you know? Anyway, good foundation, I'd really like to see this worked on :)

Stroller Rover by Kupnu4 2020-04-21T15:19:26Z

A very pretty game! It's premise is unique afaik. I loved how that astronaut is going thru apples by the pound.

I think it would have been good to get some variety in things to pick up, perhaps other resources to craft rocket parts. There were times where I just stood there, food full, waiting to pick up energy, you know?

EICON TOWN by Sacrface 2020-04-21T06:07:24Z

It's a refreshing concept! In city management games I seldom see trade management in them too. I'm not sure if I like or dislike having an fps perspective instead of the usual top down.

As feedback, the solution to the problem doesn't seem to change -- buy/sell. I'd have loved if there were stakes, like price fluctuation through the day and you have to learn them, or invest in the buildings to keep them from going bankrupt.

Don't Forget To Water! by Thor Lucas 2020-04-20T10:53:01Z

Very nice! You had lots of concepts on this game for 48h, and you introduced them progressively. I enjoy the water physics, reminds me of terraria. Some levels even needed some timing! You have a lot of potential here, I hope you continue to explore this project.

As feedback, I'd work with the smoothness of the water level. Sometimes it wasn't clear up until which point water pressure would raise the level, or if the water would be able to cross a "plain" of rocks.

Social Distancing For LadyBugs by mehrdadsh 2020-04-20T07:08:44Z

The hitbox of the swatter feels very good. It certainly keeps with the theme of these days :) I think I'd have liked for it to have more levels, and maybe some lives (so the first ladybug you squash isn't game over)

Saving The Light by Dpeet1 2020-04-20T07:02:52Z

Very calming game, for sure; the graphics look amazing. At some points it requires a leap of faith though. Maybe you could expand the light radius a bit?

Dog Feeder by plantleaf 2020-04-20T12:24:57Z

I like how xc and kl do different things, I thought it was going to be 2 rotators. The whole time I was wondering why the dog was smoking -- nice twist.

As feedback, I'd try not to have the music restart everytime. Also, I was using spacebar to restart the level since it's very comfortable. If I beat the level I'd like it to take me to the next one, not restart.

Cerberus by CameronDugan 2020-04-20T07:11:33Z

Hey, there's always next time :) I'm intrigued, were you going for a computer antivirus vibe? I'm into the idea of managing shoot em up controls with terminal inputs.

Stay Frausty by GameDoodles 2020-04-20T21:49:25Z

Cute game! Reminds me of doodle jump. Regenerating body parts is tougher than it seems, I like it!

As feedback, I would like to have some sort of % on body parts to better know whether to risk a certain move or not.

Good Shapes, Bad Shapes by ishmandoo 2020-04-20T08:52:15Z

Tougher than expected! I like how you mix walls with enemies in color, I never see them coming unless I move carefully. Very nice.

As feedback, maybe you could add a "wind-up" animation or sound to the charging shapes (triangles). I find otherwise I have no time to react.

Egg Rocket Unicorn by ubershmekel 2020-04-20T05:19:23Z

It definitely tells an imaginative story. I wasn't expecting the ending though. I liked the physics, gives it challenge. 2nd stage would have been nice if more roomy, but if you flip too much the egg falls.

All in all nice one! Good luck!

Package Protectors by AeroSoap 2020-04-21T06:22:14Z

It's a cool concept, I've never seen Moon Lander done with that button scheme. I do wish there was some sound, and maybe some leniency when it came to the health.

AetherPath by quichi 2020-04-20T21:29:31Z

Very ambitious for a compo game! I especially like that its RTS and you can mine/create/move all ships at once, really gives like a Warcraft feel.

As feedback, perhaps we could start with another ship to mine so we get a better direction of what to do.

Egg Defender by Tent Hat 2020-04-20T07:13:57Z

Haha, I really like the detail of planting flowers where enemies are defeated.

It's a cool concept, but I wish I could run faster / spam peck while moving. It'd give me more opportunities to defend the egg.

Also, these are some tallbois.

Save humanity: coronavirus killer by NutvillageGames 2020-04-21T11:37:49Z

You've got a cool concept going on, and very topical too. The movement feels ok and spamming bullets is satisfying. I wish the character were a bit faster and had a crosshair. Also you could make it so the camera stands between the player and the mouse so we can look around a bit.

Don't Leaf Me by MickeyO 2020-04-20T10:40:11Z

With such dialogue, I get why the plant was left behind. Wait.

Fun platformer, really liked the humor of it. As feedback, I would say to make the dialogue static, especially on the tutorials. Otherwise you have to stop to read.

Overthrone by Phibian 2020-04-20T05:49:35Z

Very impressive and polished for 48h! My opinion is that it's a bit tough: the sword seems pretty weak, and most of all it takes a while to set up a building. Maybe start with enough funds to buy 1 would be a good idea.

However it may be, I really liked it, good job!

Be THE DOG by ul0n 2020-04-21T14:22:25Z

A charming style, and humorous premise! Perhaps the human could be dragged forwards or backwards a bit as you move, so as to help in dodging.

Deer Quest by Brachistosauro 2020-04-21T11:32:39Z

Oh deery me, what a predicament.

Very funny meta story. Everyone killing everyone in order to save someone... Crazy world. I wished there was some sound to go with the game, as well as better defined tree boundaries. At one point in the map there seemed to be a narrow tree passage but I couldn't get thru.

Keep Her Alive by Jani Penttinen 2020-04-21T06:47:41Z

Alright, pretty funny that you can just toss a house out of the way (how is that even a danger?). The spaghetti western presentation also helps this game a lot.

As feedback, I would have liked a better representation of what could be moved or not. When a horse appeared I didn't know if it was an obstacle or if the character would ride it. Then she started punching it. Fun times :D

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Bullet Break by JCMonkey 2018-04-23T10:50:19Z

The introduction really got me! I consider this to be the most innovative mix I've seen so far! The clown really sells it :P

Tsundere Defender by Kirill Nepomnyaschiy 2018-04-23T12:42:06Z

These graphics are really good! However I couldn't figure out how to refill ammo, so I didn't get very far...

Wordelicious by ludipe 2018-04-24T17:15:27Z

With some storyline or some objectives, the task of a copywriter would be a very entertaining one!

One criticism: I kept going for the backspace instead of the left arrow to erase, and likewise with the enter key. I guess I expected all the functionalities of a typewriter!

PE@CE by bwalter 2018-04-23T11:28:42Z

Very unique aesthetics, and I can't resist a platformer. Only feedback is maybe shorten the respawn delay, as I felt I needed to get right back in there every time I died :D

CCG Shoot 'em Up by Moczan 2018-04-23T09:04:37Z

I like it! Some feedback for the cards would've helped, like how long is a dash, or how quickly will it happen. Otherwise it's a little hard to predict & dodge bullets. Good game!

Atlas Runs by Secretmapper 2018-04-23T12:16:38Z

Great idea! I especially enjoy the zoom-in on the village. As for feedback, I'd like to respawn in some checkpoint, rather than begin all over. But overall, very recommendable!

Tetra Dungeon by el-pepi 2018-04-23T11:39:35Z

This is a very interesting combination! I'd definitely play a full release of this.

Especially if there's 2P coop, where one controls the hero, and the other controls the Dungeon maker.

Rythm is Lava by egordorichev 2018-04-24T16:42:20Z

Truly a very innovative approach, I'd say you've even combined 3 different genres, haha! I can definitely see this being fun competitively (try to end the level OR make the other players' characters defeat each other). Lots of polish, I'm glad I played this! :)

Space Chess by zoglu 2018-04-23T12:07:38Z

Both the aesthetics and gameplay really work in tandem here. I'm sure you know this, but you have a great potential phone game in your hands! I really want to see this hit a Store.

Time Tug by IronyGames 2018-04-24T06:08:04Z

Morning, everyone!

@Serious07 yup, I've been getting comments like this, and I agree more enemy feedback will make this less trial and error. I'll aim for that!

@Moczan that is a think I've noticed as well, the bullets just don't stand out. Thanks for the feedback!

@jf1989 That's an interesting one, I didn't even think about mouse support, but it does make sense. I'll take a gander :)

@caeonosphere Thanks! I kind of wanted enemies to be unpredictable, at least the first time around -- figuring out the pattern being the fun part and all. But I agree some sort of feedback would be very helpful.

@Secretmapper Hey thank you! That was somewhat the effect I was going for. Though your description has given me an idea for a story -- let's see if I have time to develop it :)

Thanks for all your feedback, people!

Turn-Based Invaders from Space! by HacksawUnit 2018-04-23T12:35:59Z

Aaah, this one's so similar to mine! Haha, but this one's very well polished. I really like the different patterns of each enemy, it made for a challenging strategy game. Good fun!

The Place by KRP 2018-04-23T11:33:04Z

I really like the ambiance of this! You didn't open with jumpscares, which is always appreciated. My only complain is the mouse makes the camera move too fast. It looks cool, but in practice it makes me a lil' dizzy.

Dyeswap by morphine 2018-04-24T16:54:41Z

Ooooh, really cool combination! 3D puzzle games have been around, but I've never seen it combined with the delete-3 concept. Some polish and this can be a full fledged concept!

A Virtual Friend by frostdragonliz 2018-04-24T17:05:11Z

Haha, that was fun! Never played an eldritch tamagochi before. Nice little game! Nailed the aesthetics too.

Think Before Escape by acoto87 2018-04-23T10:59:55Z

I like it! I'd appreciate some button to trigger the beginning of my turn, and have time stopped until then. That way I get more time to think.

ACCIDENTAL EXISTENTIAL by slovnoslomo 2018-04-24T16:46:23Z

Hahaha, what a polished game for such an alien concept! I liked it though. It's very Stanley Parable perhaps, in its own meta-criticism of genre tropes. If not a game, at the very least I'd love to see a series like this retelling all genre combinations of videogames.

Scarry by Memel06 2018-04-23T11:22:56Z

Using the screams of terror as a positive mechanic is an awesome concept! Great game!

ASM Hell by vilix64 2018-04-23T09:00:49Z

Great game! As feeback, I've found myself using the "start" and "end" keys to navigate thru the lines, that would be a nice addition :)

Also, I can't access your vilix.xyz webpage

Pretty Crowded Dungeon by sprvrn 2018-04-24T17:07:57Z

Very cute! It kind of reminds me of another game of dungeon matchup from the pico8 store. I really like how you utilized the console. Keep it up!

BIRKANOID by MateCziner 2018-04-24T16:40:40Z

Aaah, this is so much fun! At some points you just want to use that card as well as you can even if it's not its most fitting situation. Would love to play this as a full-er release!

Memory Warfare by dirtymoonz 2018-04-23T12:23:26Z

Very nice! It really reminds me of those 5 second frenzy games, where you have to juggle your attention. If you were to put another minigame in there it'd probably be infernal... And I couldn't wait to try it, haha!

Escape by Gamekrazzy 2018-04-24T16:35:09Z

Ah, the graphics and the audio feel so good! Really would like to see this developed with some more "levels"

Shot Thru The Heart by sheehan 2018-04-23T11:13:42Z

Had a lot of fun! Although now I can't get that tune out of my brain.

The Colossal Carrot Caper by rush 2018-04-24T16:37:56Z

The most interesting concept here is limiting the number of movements; I think it'd be great for the horror genre, where you're escaping from a monster you KNOW it's there, but you can't escape as fast as you'd wish.

Flappy Blocks by Radical Dog 2018-04-24T17:18:45Z

Oooooh, this infuriates me in the good way. Really never thought of combining flappy with tetris. I also didn't expect a story, but I found those few parapgraphs funny! I believe you have a sweet arcade game to work on :)

The Magic Shotgun Coloring Book by BenPeterson 2018-04-24T16:49:13Z

To make such an unexpandable concept such as coloring games playable is very creative indeed! The idea of having to defeat enemies in a certain area is not one I've seen in other top-down shooters to be honest. I wonder if you could make a game based on these creative level objectives!

Yaxis by TimeLoad 2018-04-23T12:10:23Z

Figuring out 1D games is always half the fun. I was trying to figure out whether this was a simulated side or top view! Quite fun!

STEREOtype by caeonosphere 2018-04-23T11:45:49Z

Oh wow. It seems like such an obvious combination. Yet, I don't think anyone's done it before! And it's a lot of fun. From the mistake feedback (unaligned letters) to the pace change, to having to type restart to restart. Absolutely polished.

For slowpokes like me, I'd appreciate a smaller font so as to better prepare myself for the next word :)

Cat Pack by Potondo 2018-04-23T09:29:12Z

Haha, great fun! Obviously the cats'd have nine lives :) If only there were a way to give instructions quicklier, I'd find it more manageable.
