Woah, this game reminded me of many old retro games, but with a little sprinkle of dazzling effects. It was quite relaxing and overall a joyful experience. Good job!

i like the gfx :-)
The retro visual style is done very well. Interesting gameplay. But you could have come up with more game mechanics.
Cool game! Very polished project!
Best game I played so far! Very charming, nice amount of levels, great style! Takes me back to my classic Gameboy days
Carrying the egg around reminded me of my entry, though mine isn't as polished as this one. If you are interested, check it out here: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/eggcuse-me
Really love the retro style, reminds me of the sewer level from Fez!
Wow you really went all out with the levels. This game has so much content and its all high quality. I was pleasantly surprised how many different mechanics you had implemented! The final boss was also epic. Everything about this was an absolute treat! Keep up the good work!
Instantly gave me that old Gameboy Pokemon vibe when the music started. Nice aesthetics. The only thing is that the controls is bit clunky. In our country we don't have classical QWERTY keyboard.
Well made. Sometime it could be more precise (especially for jumps). Congratulation
Really fun puzzle platformer with a cute egg mechanic. I love the whole presentation, look and feel of this game and it feels very polished for a jam game. The levels are also pretty well designed and fun to get through.
Fun, but I'm not much for puzzle plat-former. Couldn't find any problems. Very nice game.
Great execution! It really felt like something you could find on the GBC.
As feedback, I do wish there was some acceleration to the character's movement to make it more natural to control.
I was really hyped to play this when I saw your beautiful progress screenshots on discord! Really, you should be proud of the art, and of the impressive number of rooms you created.

Occasionally the mechanics of this game led to unexpected situations. In this image, why can't the egg get to me? Pressing up does nothing.

Same question here...
Also, I personally enjoy platformers where the character has acceleration & a higher max velocity. That makes jumping over spikes more of a matter of timing and less of a matter of memorizing hitboxes.
Really cool game. It is very polished and i love the art style. The controls are a little weird for me but good game overall.
Great core mechanic with the egg, charming pixel art, and I really like how the later mechanics were introduced. The only issue I had was with the jumping, which sometimes felt weird when trying to get over gaps.
Epic. I love the ending. It has a BOSS!!!
@blaiserascal Thank you and thanks for checking out the game! :) So in the first image, that is an intentional rule of the design. The egg can be called up through platforms but not down through them. So the correct solution would be to hold the egg and jump down through the platform.
Now as for the second image, that is in fact a bug! The radius for calling the egg is a bit tricky. Being a 72 hour jam, not everything is going to be perfect, right? Haha But the good news is, I have just uploaded a new build with fixes for this specific issue and a few other collision-related glitches! Calling the egg is now much more responsive :D
Very charming! Even though the game was very minimal, all the assets felt very consistent. I like how the palette changed over the game to keep things interesting.
And speaking of interesting, you managed to squeeze quite a few mechanics in there in such a short time. Kept me wanting to move forwards to see what's next (and glad I did because you even got a boss fight in there!)
I know this isn't supposed to be a difficult game, but the boss was a little on the easy side since you could just stand on the top buttons and throw the egg up while easily dodging the one projectile he throws. Perhaps if he stopped appearing in the place you last hit him, it would make the fight just a little more challenging without ramping the difficulty up too much.
That aside, the movement of the egg seemed a little janky. Sometimes it would come, sometimes it wouldn't. Sometimes I'd pick it up, sometimes I wouldn't. But you're probably aware of it, so I won't fuss too much. :stuck_out_tongue: All things considered, this game was quite nice!
Big thanks to everyone who has played the game so far! Thank you all for your kind words and feedback :)
I really had a retro feeling playing this earlier today. It all fits together very nicely, well done ! I hope you'll consider making this a full game. Well done ! :) Thank you for making this game
Amazing graphics and music, love the different palettes
A nice tiny puzzle platformer. It resembles our submission, but have an absolutely different approach to core gameplay and polished very well.
Great puzzle platformer! The retro aesthetic was on point and the puzzles were well-designed! I also thought the music and sound effects matched the game really well. One minor complaint was that towards the end it felt like a lot of new mechanics were introduced but they weren't fully developed. I'd love to see some more conveyor belt levels and levels that involve the falling platforms.
What tools did you use to make the game by the way?
@herman-chau Yeah I'd really like to build the game out in the future with some Super Mario-style 'Worlds' to sort of group the mechanics and flesh them out more individually. Add some new mechanics and bosses too!
As for tools, coded in GMS2; art was made in Aseprite and Tilesetter Lite; I used Abundant Music generator for the music with a Gameboy soundfont applied through SynthFont; and I made all the sound fx with bfxr :)
Cool, thanks! I haven't heard of Abundant Music generator. I might try using it next time I do a game jam so I don't keep just using public domain songs :P
Nice game. Really well polished! So many levels and a nice boss battle! I had fund! Good job!

Hey! Your game is really well-rounded. I had a great time with it and was continually pleasantly surprised with what new little tricks in level design and mechanics you'd throw at me. I thought the presentation was very suitable and overall, just felt delighted to play it. A few niggling physics / collider issues here and there, but your game wasn't so dependent on them that they created any real problems. Thanks for the game, I had a lot of fun with it :)
This game is really fun, and I love the graphics and music!!
Super amazing puzzle game, I played it all in one go, totally engaged throughout the whole session Would love to see this being developed as a full game !
Great game! Love the art and music, the levels are so well-design and polish! One of the best game I've played. Excellent entry!
Alrighty so, comments about Candy's Dream Egg:
- Off the bat, very fun little puzzle game. - Follows the theme well. - Very nice gameboy-esque style, with some nice art. - Game plays very nicely with gamepad. - My only actual recommendation would probably be to have the character catch the egg if it drops from above them, instead of it landing under them and bouncing them up. That being said, this being a jam project I can see why it wouldn't be on the top of the priority list :D
Pretty interesting as a jam entry. Theme and coloring is fun. If you want to improve the game (as I think I saw you asking for in the discord), here are some things I thought could use improvement:
- The levels could use some updating. A lot of the same solutions were used multiple times without much added mechanics, which made level progression get boring quickly, and it felt like the most complex levels had maybe a two-step solution tops. Perhaps part of it is because you're confined to such a small space. Maybe slightly larger levels would help. - On that note, "tunnels" that you can't carry the egg through is an interesting concept, but far too many of the levels are based off of it. - More scenarios that require Candy and the egg feel like different entities that have their own abilities would be nice. Since the egg seems pretty rugged, enemies that you throw the egg at might be a nice add (admittedly, I didn't beat the game, so I suppose it's possible they showed up eventually). - "calling the egg" felt clunky and in most cases, like it was too difficult to get it to come to me. Perhaps just making Candy auto-pickup the egg when it gets close enough would help. - The jump arc feels very sluggish. I understand that it's probably to prevent Candy from jumping over some gaps, but it feels a bit like the rug is pulled from under you when you lose so much momentum during jumps. - The music and the call sound effect clashes pretty badly.
I hope that helps! Thanks for sharing!
fun and some really clever design! very well done!! :D

The controls felt a little stiff but otherwise it is a very impressive game. Crazy amount of levels and lots of mechanics kept being introduced. Plus it had a very well done retro style. Really enjoyed it and made it all the way to the end. Good job!
Very solid gameplay and a surprising amount of levels. I'd rather see a bit less but more challenging puzzles though.
The music, on the other hand, felt really annoying to me, especially after several loops. I wish there was a way to turn it off without turning off the sound effects.
Played this game on Newgrounds, so I decided to rate it here. Nice job!
When the egg is on the head it has a glitch that does not let you out, good job! glitch.jpg
