LD46 — Keep it alive

By the Sword by wilsk 2020-04-22T14:27:31Z

I tried it with a friend and it is an interesting and ambitious concept. Sadly we couldn't make it to work as intended. We tried reading the rules but I don't know if we misunderstood or if the game is broken... For example after the phase where we are supposed to discarded card it says that we'll get back to 5 and this didn't happened. I also ended up with zero gladiator for an unknown reason... Also I feel like the game lacks visual feedback clarifying what action does what.

I'll be eager to test an updated and fixed version if you continue working on it though :)

Lost Goblins by pndaa 2020-04-21T12:56:13Z

I finished your game with 13 goblins dead ^^ It was pretty fun and original.

My only complaints would be : -the death animation is too long and you're stuck there doing nothing -there are too much uneeded advices, I feel like puzzle game should let people experiment to figure out themselves how it worked -the puzzle (especially the later ones like TooManyDoors) would be more interesting if they had more of a "catch". As it is in a lot of turns I felt like the answer was quite straightforward (simply opening the door in front)

But apart from that I enjoyed it a lot. Having everyone move 1 turn at a time after one action was an interesting challenge, good job !

The Keep! It's Alive! by minibobbo 2020-04-23T16:59:52Z

Your game seems really interesting but I have an issue with my cursor drifting to the left. This doesn't happen out of your game or in any other game. But as soon as I click on your game's window it starts drifting. This makes the game extremely hard to play so I stopped playing and will try again later. Is it an issue other people faced ?

The Keep! It's Alive! by minibobbo 2020-04-23T19:10:03Z

@minibobbo I'm using Linux (Manjaro) with Firefox on a 1920x1080 screen. I haven't tweaked anything recarding scaling so I assume it's 100%. An offline downloadable version could be a solution for me if Phaser supports Linux (don't know, never used it ^^)

Thanks for taking the time to fix this

The Keep! It's Alive! by minibobbo 2020-04-23T20:21:35Z

@minibobbo Interesting stuff : I found that by switching my window manager from i3 to xfce there is no longer any issue. On to testing your game then !

The Keep! It's Alive! by minibobbo 2020-04-23T20:36:40Z

Alright, I played it to the end. It's really really good ! Beautiful pixel art, nice gameplay, great theme interpretation, cool music that fits the gameplay and is simple without getting annoying.

If I had one remark to make I would have prefer hands a little bigger or at least a bigger hitbox as I was sometimes missing my target during tense moments The way the levels are varied with different enemies is really nice and adding stuff in the foreground to alter visibility was a nice and unexpected addition. Regarding those enemies I feel like the difficulty could be handled a little bit better as right now speed is by far the biggest component in the difficulty of an enemy. The big dudes that need two times to eat are way less dangerous than the small speedy ones. I just needed to ignore them and take them at the end.

So I feel like the game could take advantage of some slight gameplay tweaks and if you had time some more levels with different enemies but it's already in a great shape and a nice bit of fun ! Good job :)

Fox! Hen! Bag! by 0x01F0 2020-04-25T15:09:29Z

Fun riddle game. I expected that the chicken would eat the grain so I took the grain. Don't know why I overlooked that the fox would eat the chicken xD Is there a purpose to the skeleton instead of just throwing him below ?

The gameplay isn't fantastic but it's simple and efficient in what it does so... not much to add or criticize. A very simple concept very well executed. Well done !

I am your Dead by Akelliona 2020-04-26T10:14:09Z

It's a shame that you didn't have more time to polish and balance your game. It's beautiful with a promising concept but sadly in the current state it's a pain to play.

I don't like this random movement mechanic in its current state. There are times where it allows me to spare resources by just waiting for my character to go by itself to the place I want. Sadly it means that I have to wait and this is no fun. You never want a situation where the optimal option is the boring one. The best example for this is your first level. You could win by doing nothing thus sparing 2 mana. But then your players will have to wait a long time at the begging of each level. On the contrary if you order your creature to move near a trap and it then decide to jump inside by itself it's also a big loss of time. I'm not sure if there is really a way to tweak the mechanic of random movement to make it fun sadly. Maybe you'll have a better idea than me but in the current state I feel like the best would be to cut it and make a simple puzzle game. Or go all in with both characters present at the same time and having the one not controlled move randomly. But then you'll have to make traps less punishing otherwise it would get annoying.

Also in terms of controls. A lot of game have move order on the right click and it's the first thing I tried. It might be good to playtest with other players but I think that switching for right click might be the good call.

All in all it's an interesting concept with beautiful character designs. Well done !

Trap-o-mancy by karreg 2020-04-21T17:13:05Z

Nice game, I liked it very much. I found that the second visitor can easily be answered after the first card because she'll still be having hp left. But I guess that figuring it out is part of the game. Considering the limited space on the board, some cards are really not helpful like the one that cancel another. Effectively you'll be lacking one card. Death is also quite hard to benefit from (I guess it's fitting if that was the intent ^^)

If I'm not mistaken there is an issue with the card that "puts to the power of to" as it says in the description that it's the number of card plus one to the power of 2 and with two cards it should be 9 (3 x 3) while I'm pretty sure I got 8 which is 2 to the power of the number of card + 1 (2 x 2 x 2). I'm not 100% sure but might be good to check  When the last visitor came back (I think I played her 3 times, it was really fun), she comes back with the message of thanks that she has when she leaves. Minor bug here but it felt weird. As a last bit of criticism I find the text displaying way too slowly making the player wait to read the card description.

Overall, a really good game. Congratulations !

Trap-o-mancy by karreg 2020-04-21T17:51:45Z

@karreg Honnestly the second visitor situation is more of a feature than a bug to me. It's rather fun to have someone come to you and basically answer "Dying ? You're not dead yet now, are you ? It's ok, you'll leave then"

For the power situation, I just checked and you were right. There is no error, I read it wrongly the first time I got it ^^

Blood Runs by Sol Roo 2020-04-21T10:16:14Z

Awesome looking pixel art ! Also the music is really nice. But... the controls... Damn, the vertical axis inverted is a bug, right ? Also the car is extremely fast and the vampire really slow. Plus it's not clear when the blood bar replenishes and when it doesn't. I couldn't finish day 2 but I'll be willing to give it a try again if you could fix the axis swap :) Good job !

Blood Runs by Sol Roo 2020-04-22T13:36:09Z

Ok I replayed it and... this is awesome ! One of the best game I've played up to now in this jam. What I said before about the art and the music still stands but now I could appreciate the gameplay much more. The ghoul mechanic plus the car work well together to force you to move to another place.

If I had stuff to nitpick concerning places of improvement I would say : -I found that you've got a beautiful graveyard and you're not using it, I feel like it's kind of a wasted opportunity -does the rising sun actually do something ? What prevents us from staying in the city endlessly ? It seems I never died or anything from a rising sun

Keep It (restaurant and baby) alive by Nutriz 2020-04-22T18:09:29Z

Your game has a really fun concept with a cool art style (and dishes on the head which is nice :P). But like you said, it's quite broken sadly :/

I feel like the biggest issue are the controls. I ended up zigzaging and I guess that it's not a good look for the baby and the customers to be drunk ^^ I think that it would have been better to pick one between top-down and fps view. By trying to do both you ended up with 2 messy way and it's not really possible to alternate both without having camera issues. Also increasing the hitboxes to pickup the baby and orders would be better I think. I also feel like the alarm sound is too loud (plus I didn't understood at the beginning that it was linked to the baby)

It's a shame because it really looks cool with a fun concept that could be quite fun with more polish. I liked the dino-baby and having dishes on the head. On this subject why not allow to carry 3 dish : one on the head and one in each hand ? That would allow for some planning in taking orders.

Still, congrats for you entry :)

The Machine at the Center of the Earth by p53 2020-04-21T12:39:53Z

I like the way different parts are breaking in different ways. And I was surprised to see the jumping point at the center being able to break too, it was a nice surprise. It's a shame there is no real goal to it but given the time limit it is to be expected ^^ Good job !

Keep it Olive! by Nathalia Hohl 2020-04-21T20:10:16Z

Fun word play with the theme. I also like the low poly esthetic of it. But on this subject I think it would have been more fitting if the flames were low poly particles too. It would also be nice if the punches and water had more range to it and were a little more in the center of the camera to see better what we were doing.

Small nitpick too : I used the Linux build and the folder downloaded is just named "Linux". It would be better to have your name attached I think.

Overall goodjob, it was a funny experience

Сharon-don-don by Royoyo 2020-04-21T19:45:46Z

Your game nicely fits the theme. One of the most original out there from this standpoint. I felt it was quite hard to grasp though. I didn't manage to use the "questgiver". Also even though the game needs explaining I feel like frontloading it with the overlay with the arrows was a bit too much. Maybe working more on the environment to make clear what is what could help ? (well, obviously I now that in this jam setting we were all short on time...)

The dialogue with Charon needing to repair his boat was funny ^^ and I liked the esthetic of the lake

Also, I was wondering : with such a big team, how did you organize work ?

NecroTyper by Tadej 2020-04-21T10:19:59Z

It seems really original and I'll be willing to try it. Sadly it's windows only right now. Send me a message if you upload something that runs on Linux or html

NecroTyper by Tadej 2020-04-21T21:43:41Z

@tadej Thanks. I'll try it tomorrow

Commodore Commander by Alex_ADEdge 2020-04-22T14:01:23Z

The game appeared laggy in my browser with the interface not reacting to most of my inputs rendering it unplayable. I would still love to test it though because it seems original with beautiful graphics but it just didn't work for me. If you were to upload a compiled version for Linux I would like to retest it though :)

Commodore Commander by Alex_ADEdge 2020-04-22T16:31:54Z

@alex-adedge Thanks for your efforts. Obviously I'll be willing to check if the Linux build works. Sadly it still doesn't work. Both the Linux and Windows zip files cannot be opened and I'm getting an error

"Open ERROR: Can not open the file as [zip] archive ERRORS: Is not archive"

I never had any issue opening .zip on this computer so I assume the issue is with your file. :/

Also most of the people expect to be able to click the link to get to the download while I get a 404 error and I've got to "Save as" to get the file

Mount Ookie by Brusi 2020-04-21T19:28:42Z

I tried the HTML version (I'm on Linux) but it kept saying "Loading game for the first time...". Nice screenshots though, maybe I'll try again later as I'd like to test your game

Mount Ookie by Brusi 2020-04-21T21:32:41Z

Thanks for the updated web version. It works now

Really good gameplay, idea as well as aesthetic. My biggest issue is the difficulty to catch the wasps while jumping meaning that some are sometimes hard to reach. That combined with the difficulty due to the amount of wasp spawning, sometimes really far, meant that I didn't manage to finish the game but still enjoyed it a lot.

Well done !

Edit : I forgot to add it but the tutorial is really good !

Open Fire! by Amazura 2020-04-25T21:10:45Z

It's a little bit sad that the gameplay is just button mashing. You had nice pixel art, a cool music and fun dialogs but I feel like the gameplay part was lackluster and a little bit annoying to be honest

It would have been nice to have a touch more complexity to manage. Civilians forcing you to avoid shooting, needing to pause shooting to reload... But for sure for just one guy it's still a great job, a beautiful little game :)

Soulbound by Fenderbate 2020-04-21T17:38:09Z

As other said above me. It's simple but good ! The limited color palette really add the the aestethics and mood of the game ! One of the game of this jam that I played for the longest time ^^ I ended up stopping because for unknown reason I couldn't move right randomly which was gamebreaking. I don't know if it's a bug with your game or if my keyboard is dying on me... My only real bit of criticism would be that the theme is really loosely adapted. By interpreting it like this you could basically adapt every game that has enemy in it. Still, really fun game, congrats !

The Keep is Alive by OwlyCode 2020-04-23T13:43:16Z

I was happy to see your entry because the "Keep" theme was something we considered during our brainstorming phase ^^ (but in the end we didn't went with it) Your graphics are really beautiful and the taking paths that block the barbarian horde is fun. I felt like the hitboxes where a little bit janky and unpredictable. Actually I feel like the game could have been better as a full-on 2D game instead of 2.5D

It would have been nice if the gameplay evolved a bit while picking up piece instead of the binary situation fleeing/winning. For example with different part allowing differents paths or other types of power-ups to fend of the barbarians. But I guess that it would have been too much for the scope of a jam.

All in all, extremely well done, good job !

Edit : actually reading the comments I saw that the different parts DO give power ups. Then... it was not really clear for me, there should be something telling you this more clearly I feel

Fordhill by Ethan Losten 2020-04-21T20:18:50Z

I like the graphics and the trap variety. My issues with it are that the controls are a little bit clunky (really easy to miss a swing and get hit) and it would have been nice to have audio feedback. I also couldn't find how to heal making the game quite hard. But I liked it a lot, well done !

Jibier's Adventure : Valentine's Curse by Jibier 2020-04-21T18:31:24Z

I liked your game very much. At the beginning I forgot I could pick object up which made it way harder but I still managed to beat it. Killing ennemies by throwing your friend was fun ! The graphics are really beautiful though the boss is quite subpar in term of quality compared to the rest. The font was hard to read and I feel like you could add an indicator for the amount of health remaining for the boss. Overall, really nice game !

King is not moving! by tapehead 2020-04-21T10:33:51Z

Beautiful art. Though I had an issue with the road buying drawn on top of the characters, hiding the king (on Linux, maybe it's not the case for everyone). I couldn't finish the game because the king got stuck mid-road for some reason but I still liked it :)

Why Baby? by Chris Rock 2020-04-21T20:29:33Z

Today I learned : being insulted by a baby t-rex is a thing oO Really fun aesthetic and idea The gameplay is basic but works. My biggest criticism would be using a red filter for hunger. It took me time at the beginning to understand what it meant and it ruins the beautifull graphics when it gets too red :/

Still, one of the best game I played in this jam. Well done !

Edit : is it actually winnable ? It seems like the water is draining way too fast when the dino gets huge

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-22T16:46:41Z

Nice game, I played it to the end (after a first try ending in a death) and liked it very much The art style is clean and nice and the mechanics interact well with each other. Though I feel like the attack move is useless as it's more efficient to summon cacti and let them fight instead.

The music is cool but too repetitive considering the length of one playthrough. The midgame was a little boring with few enemy to fight but then it spiked before the end which wasn't an issue because I prepared with tons of summoning beforehand but could be an issue for someone who summoned less and spend his time fihgting

Overall, excellent work !

Who did you meet ? by Fabien Parisot 2020-04-21T21:17:35Z

Super jeu !

Nuke-A-Tron 2000 by kale 2020-04-22T13:55:23Z

I didn't like your game so much. The art of the main screen is quite cool as well as the general idea of clearing mini games under tension. But sadly I find the mini-games quite basic and not that interesting. Also I had the screen for the color mini-game stuck in front all the time and not disappearing which was annoying. And this music... I'm sorry but it's too repetitive and irritating. Also on the aesthetic side it would have been cool if you customized the default godot look (you can do so using theme as I discovered myself in this jam ^^)

Remember his Name by Adinimys 2020-04-21T10:47:59Z

@xdsilentstorm Thanks ! What result did you get at the end of it ? How easy was it to guess what the public liked/disliked ? I'll also check out your game, obviously ^^

Remember his Name by Adinimys 2020-04-21T11:15:08Z

@fat-cat Oh, I didn't see it as a mini-game inside a bigger game before but it's a great idea (no bigger game plan right now though :P )

Yeah, we discussed a long time about the different reactions as a team and they could be playtested more as our internal thinking is not always the most clear to all players. But in a jam setting we lacked time for that ^^ Glad you liked it though !

Remember his Name by Adinimys 2020-04-21T11:16:20Z

@forging-foxes Yeah we were going for more environmental storytelling but sadly lacked the time. That's why some assets are way less polished than other (liked the weapons for example)

Remember his Name by Adinimys 2020-04-22T17:35:55Z

@fabula-rasa Great the hear about "King Andreval de Rosran the Courageous that did... something before he definitely died" :D

Remember his Name by Adinimys 2020-04-26T16:58:58Z

@circleoflife It's true that it's really hard to get everything perfect. Assuming that few people would play more than once we wanted the game to be hard enough to avoid most of the people getting everything right. We felt it would kind of defeat the purpose of this "lie vs truth" mechanic if you could just tell the truth most of the time.

For sure if it was a bigger game we would have needed more time testing everything to assess how easy we wanted everything to be

Cold Front by chrismcco 2020-04-21T10:57:29Z

Fun short game. The art is clean and the reactivity snappy Though I feel like to reinforce the them it would have been nice to have a "melting" animation on your snowman. Also... is there an actual AI or is it random (it feels like, making the game really easy) To expand this game it would be interesting to have bigger board with chokepoints and maybe a chain effect of conversions. Good job !

Spirit of the Forest by podchasov 2020-04-21T18:06:32Z

Maybe it's an issue on my part but I couldn't find a way to extinguish the fire... For the ennemy I could use fire mode and stick to them so I tried water mode sticking to burning tree but it didn't work at all I think I'm missing something ? If you could explain to me what I was supposed to do, I'll retry it though

Ball Monster by marrero171 2020-04-21T20:45:31Z

As other said having to restart the entire game on each death is a little rough. That plus the lack of precision in throwing your buddy means that the game is quite hard to play. I stopped playing at the shadow level... :/ But the idea and the aestethics are really good, that's a big plus !

Seeking Past by DylanPiserchia 2020-04-21T09:45:40Z

It took time for me to understand the controls but it's an original combat system. Even though I feel like it can be cheesed by just spinning endlessly. The theme of keeping memories is nice (quite similar to our approach in fact ^^) but sadly it seems like the link with the gameplay is quite arbitrary. I couldn't manage to collect all memories so maybe there is more to it than I missed...

The Old Shelter by Seind 2020-04-22T14:46:27Z

I feel like there was a lot of though put behind the intro which was nice. The gameplay itself... not so much. It's very basic and in a lot of case I end up dying because a vampire ask for something out of the screen.

Also on the visual side there is no coherency between the vector art (really well done and clean) and the grey background texture (more detailed but aesthetically more basic). Considering the size of your team it might have been wise to divert someone from gamedesing/code/production to art in order to get more manpower on this front.

The idea of vampires asking drugs from a robot is kind of fun though ^^ and the game is clean, without any apparent bugs which is always a plus in my book :)

Cr4ck Launcher by Simply 2020-04-21T09:58:50Z

Beatifull UI and fun to play. Though for me the theme was not respected at all. Swithcing to "Don't keeping alive" allows to create almost everything. Still, I played until the battery ran out, managed to crack a wifi password but didn't finish the game. Really cool game though. The link to "Premium" was a nice touch xD I expected where it would lead me but still a fun addition

Feed Them, With A Gun! by Andrew-David 2020-04-21T13:12:25Z

Nice game good job ! If I had to make some remarks : -you could move to animal count to the sides, out of the arena to not hide anything -what is the point of increasing the area's size ? Isn't it easier to keep everyone in a thigh space ? -I think that you don't need to had a reload bar for your gun. Everyone expect a gun to have some reload and not shoot indefinitly, there is no real need to show it

Mr. Cheesy by SAVVU 2020-04-25T21:19:02Z

You adapted a very simple gameplay by wrapping it in an original and well executed skin. Special mention for the spaghetti plate bellow, nice touch. There isn't much to add or criticize in this case as it's simple but polished :) Though it would have been nice if you added an html version. I guess that for a simple 2D game it would be fitting

LD46 By Kinto by Kinto 2020-04-21T20:03:04Z

Nice and simple. I played it with all the weapons until I died once for each. I don't feel like the weapons are that different except that I found the lance really ineffective compared to the rest. The fact the the weapon can be used to push as well as harm is an interesting way to defend our ducks.

Like the person commenting above me I feel like there needs to be more variety in enemy types and placement. I bit more feedback (visual and sound, even if I know you were short on time ^^) would add to it too. The powerup giving an additional duck was useless for me most of the times because usually when I messed up it was by pushing a monster to my ducks by mistake and I killed both of them then.

Overall it has a nice "idlegame" feeling to it. Just moving your mouse and seeing numbers go up an down is quite cool but would need to be refine a little to be enjoyed more. Good job !

Keep Pit Alive! by BunnyDen 2020-04-23T22:01:50Z

Nice horse design and the idle animation is fun :) The music is extremely repetitive and the controls not very responsive (mainly due to the size of the horse). Also given it's a horse I feel like it would make sense for it to jump longer distances and maybe smaller heights. I didn't finish your game but I didn't find any use for the rear up move ? It broke boxes to find carrots but I'm not sure if there is any use for them.

The idea of having surprise traps and making the player restart to try to avoid them can be cool but then I feel like polishing the controls is key because you don't want players frustrated by irresponsive controls and unpredictable hitboxes

Overall cool design, well done !

Bacteria Attack by Nikos1304 2020-04-21T18:12:59Z

I kept dying. I couldn't understand what I'm supposed to do. I tried but putting the colors of the first bacterias coming, putting just one, putting all... Nothing worked. The theme is adapted in an original way though, it's a shame I couldn't play it. But I'm obviously willing to try again if you were to tell me what I'm supposed to do

Eggsploration by ChickenCastle 2020-04-21T13:19:36Z

The controls are a little difficult to use. I feel like the jump is quite heavy. But it's original with a fun universe and style. Though the animal that jumps from the trees has a style way different that the rest giving a weird contrast. Still, good job !

Controller by XdSilentStorm 2020-04-22T21:03:02Z

First of all, I found your game because you commented on mine so thank you.

I enjoyed playing your game very much. All the level are very well though out. It needs a little bit of reflection in a fraction of a second and with the added music it gets very tense.

The graphics are rather basic and I would have enjoyed a little bit of "juice" when pressing buttons or destroying obstacles. Also walking in top of space between two objects is sometimes a little bit janky. Maybe you could have pushed the collision boxes a little bit closer ?

In total I feel like this game could really be extended with a little bit more polish and more levels. I would enjoy that very much

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Autumn Harvesting by Don Fouts 2022-10-04T15:08:57Z

Didn't expect this type of harvesting from the cover art of your page. Nice subverting of expectations ! x) I had trouble understanding the basic controls to open and get objects out. It might be nice to add something like a scalpel sprite to the cursor in order to signify what the action is doing. The gameplay is really basic and get quickly repetitive (is there an end to it ? ) but considering the clever presentation of your theme it was rather fun to play for some time. To be fair I feel like your employee handbook is really the best part of this game x)

Well done ! :)

Demons, bullets and new rules by Bugord 2022-10-05T19:19:08Z

Nice game overall, I enjoyed it. If I had a remark to make for a main thing to change I would suggest finding a way to communicate when a modifier stops being active. It's not really clear. Is it timer based ? Or does it stops when it's replaced by another of the same "family" ?

Space Kitten by Renan Felipe 2022-10-04T13:52:50Z

Nice game ! I played it until the end :) I feel like the jump is a bit slow/heavy but apart from that it's really cool. The gameplay idea is classic but well executed

Dreamare by TureGrappa 2022-10-04T14:12:54Z

I liked the mood of the game. The audio makes a good background to setup and horror game. Sadly, unless I missed something it seems like it goes nowhere in terms or gameplay or horror. There doesn't seem to be a way to win and I couldn't understand if there was suppose to be a logic to room transitions... Also what is the interphone ? I could never identify it sadly.

But as a one man project it has a great presentation, well done !

LANDSLIDE by Adinimys 2022-10-04T14:15:10Z

@firellon did you try to play with keyboard or controller ? Sadly the keyboard controls are suboptimal. We didn't want to add mouse input to the game but without it's a bit wonky. I would like to know if keyboard was the issue for you or if it was something else.

Thanks for the feedback and the kind words !

@amarokczukay Yeah, it's sad but it's your survival first ! ^^

@skyward4d Hitboxes sure are an issue with this type of view. We decided to use a circle at the feet for moving around, colliding, falling and hitboxes around the bodies for pushing/swords/rocks. Might not be the best approach though

@vulkaara Really ? What resolution did you use ? Was it the shake or the particles flying from the ground that were are to see ?

@arscene We decided not to show cooldowns for pushing as it is so short. And the 2 other abilities are instant refresh on tile collapses with their uses shown by the input prompt below disappearing. But it's right that it might not be clear enough and could be improved

@digitaldude555 we thought about adding more monsters to avoid empty time. But the issue is we couldn't playtest much and we prefered making the game a bit too easy than too hard to have people play it ^^

While I like the theme usage and the ambition of making a deck builder fighting system I have to admit I didn't enjoy the game. And that for several reason : - the looping music is really annoying. The loop is way too short - the font is really hard to read - and most important of all : I didn't get how the fighting works. I tried using the keyboard and the mouse but none work. Tried clicking abilities, dragging them... I don't get it.

In the short time available to make a jam game I feel like it would have been better allocated to a tutorial system instead of so much exposition dialog at the beginning.

If someone can explain to me how I should play (I may be dumb ^^), I'm willing to revisit the game and give it a second chance :)

Did not manage to make it to the end after several attempts. The timings are hard to evaluate. It's hard to know when is the last point you can start building the campfire and if you start too late it's over regardless of whether you have enough logs or not. Plus it was hard to understand if how useful feeding the fire was. Also I don't know if I had a bug or of there is no sound ? Some simple sounds would help a lot the mood of the game as well as the feedback for the players Nice simple esthetic though you manage to create a nice simple scene with really few resources.

Tower of the Dice God by Skyward4d 2022-10-04T15:36:28Z

Played until roughly 90 floors then ended up flying out of the screen. It's quite fun and addicting to be honest. Ended up unlock most of the upgrades including limit break which was really fun. Though at some point you are one-shoting enemies so the damage upgrades end up feeling pointless. And the different weapons are not too well balanced because there are so much enemies on the screen that you don't really care for bouncing off walls or target tracking. You just want AoE at some point.

Also I don't know how intended this is but I found that the best approach was to maximize move speed a jump in order to alternate all 4 corners of the screen to have enemies running in circles in the middle.

Last thing, regarding the dice... Is this somehow related to the latest GMTKjam theme ? Maybe a continuation of an idea you had there ?

Overall, well done !

Love the idea and the mood. The music and the dialogs are really fun and the little puzzle mechanic is cool. Though I find death way too punishing considering how slow the game is. You can die either from a misplay or from trying a new approach. But then you'll have to backtrack through a lot and it's no longer interesting once your dead. Puzzle should take time to figure out but then be simple to execute once figured out. I stopped a bit after getting the vine spell before a big lava pool. Don't know if there is much of the game after that. Still it was rather enjoyable overall, well done !

@hekateras Ping me once you post the post-jam one, I would like to give it another go !
