LD45 — Start with nothing

HOBO RAMPAGE by Ntimi 2019-10-10T14:44:16Z

It's a pretty solid game. Good job, guys! Didn't notice any bugs, runs solid, even via wine on Linux ;) Nice art and music. Music is my favorite, so far. Difficulty curve is pretty hard here. Since its beat'em'up, it's a good thing :) When I get a bottle, it becomes harder to hit the running guy for some reason. Probably, should have jumped ;) Overall, it's a solid entry. Thanks for making this game!

Outsider by Shinmera 2019-10-08T20:02:10Z

Liked the stealth mechanics alot. Lights are good! Could use some sound. Dragging bodies around felt unnecessary. Lisp wow! That's awesome.

Redbeard's Return by civmaniac 2019-10-09T11:02:43Z

Yeah! Cheesing those sharks is definitely an option :D

Redbeard's Return by civmaniac 2019-10-22T16:21:17Z

@empty-set Gameplay is indeed on the simpler side. Sadly, it's the action elements mostly that underwent cuts. Thanks for your feedback. For the next jam we'll try to improve on this particular aspect.

Redbeard's Return by civmaniac 2019-10-22T16:35:30Z

@whiteseraph Thank you for your suggestion!

We made a web build. It is now hosted on itch along with other builds, folks!

LD46 — Keep it alive

Keep Hope Alive by joe40001 2020-05-09T23:17:26Z

If you would like to continue working on this game, I have some ideas to share. Would be cool to fill those areas with some kind of collage of photos. Like good times could contain some sort of good memories and rock bottom - bad and depressing pictures. Could be drawings instead, or you could go for realism. Also, you could alter ambient lights to warmer colors near top and maybe darken the "mood" near the bottom. Another idea I have is having some dynamic element, like anxiety or depression could actually be a "seeking" enemy, that follows you when you are near, and if you cross path with it, you lose your energy and such. Anyway, programmer's art should be a separate nomination I think xD

Here's my best run: Screenshot from 2020-05-10 02-09-12.png

Also, thank you for playing our game in your stream!

Keep Hope Alive by joe40001 2020-05-09T23:30:28Z

I think, the problem with people spending too much time in the rock bottom may hide in one's inability to release all desires for a while, centering yourself and recollecting their life's energies ;)

Keep IT Alive by waylon531 2020-04-21T20:15:22Z

Dead inside. Nice! Had a good laugh with this game! Thanks for the Linux build. Btw, we also made a game with Godot engine.

Kreep Alive by AViTT 2020-05-12T18:51:52Z

Really impressive scale! Crashed on me on restart, but since I played it using wine on Linux, I'm not sure if it's not a wine bug or a missing dll. Besides that, I had butter smooth frame rate! As a programmer, I get it. It's great! Gameplay could use more touch, though. I wonder if you can do complex animations and blending with this DOTS system you've mentioned in a comment above. Good job making it work on such a scale!

Dragon Eggs: Greatest Hits Edition by Shaolin Dave 2020-04-22T12:45:59Z

I liked that, even when only a few of the opponent's knights were on the board, I was still waiting for a dreaded 3 on a roll that would kill one of my vulnerable forward pieces. GGs, opponent! ;) I felt like dice could use more weight and a sound effect. On the other hand, it created an impression, like if I am playing a boardgame on a surface of a low-gravity moon - kinda interesting feeling :) Linux build worked well for me! Thank you for providing it!

Good Squire by Eli Delventhal 2020-04-21T21:38:56Z

Sweet game! Hard at times. Got to level 18 in about half an hour. Overall, a quite polished experience!

VAMP by gwinnell 2020-05-11T10:43:29Z

As a fan of early id Software titles I really, really love the aesthetics of this game. I like how drinking blood is visualized. And enemies running away from me in fear fills my blood-shot eyes with tears of joy ;) I wonder if there were any secret passages in game, since the tight gameplay prevented me from exploring much. Tight gameplay is probably a good thing here, though! Music track is on spot! Now, for some reason I couldn't use my mouse in fullscreen mode (Firefox on Linux). I really missed sensitivity settings, since with my mouse the game was overly sensitive! Overall great compo entry!

If you wish to continue development of this game, I have some ideas that you may or may not find interesting. You can introduce some silverware to the game. Like a silver candlestick, if you walk into it - you get hurt. Another idea is turning into a bat to access some places. This could be a good mechanics to introduce non-linear map exploration, like secret doors did in Doom levels.

Have Mercy by Stefan Jovanovic 2020-05-01T00:46:21Z

Linux build works fine, although on 21:9 aspect ratio the game cuts the top and bottom of the screen, so I was unable to read what the game text was saying. I suspect, it's like that on all platform builds. It's best to make sure game scales properly across different aspect ratios, but for a jam you can also simply enforce 16:9. Screenshot from 2020-05-01 03-09-04.png

Concept is interesting and could use more meat. I think some random variation would be nice, since they always seem to attack the sword guy. For example, you could add some enrage ability that would highlight the person they would attack next, but also deal double damage the next turn. Maybe they could highlight several characters they would attack (some AoE attack), and player has to choose who to defend. If you implement AoE attack, healer could use a weaker version of healing that heals all player-controlled characters. You can also surprise player with choice slider having different animation dynamics: different speed, tweening with easing in vs easing out vs easing on both ends. Maybe choice zones could be varied slightly for added difficulty.

Also, I think it would be nice to have a story explanation of why player needs them "down" instead of "dead". Maybe, a wizard hired him to get some goblins captive for wicked experiments ;) Could be a simple story text in the beginning, or a small cutscene.

Good job and thank you for different platform builds!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, that I needed to add executable bit for it to launch on Linux.

Mainframe overload by Evanaellio 2020-04-21T20:36:04Z

Great atmosphere! Reminded me of Shadowrun games for some reason :) I liked your work with lights, especially! Thanks for a Linux build. We also made a game for LD46 in Godot engine!

Medically Inaccurate by Emperor Eagle 2020-05-11T11:51:45Z

This twin-stick shooter mechanics could go really well with defend the point game like this. I call it twin-stick shooter, because this game would work nicely with controller! I liked how you have to balance defending, with going after a health drop. Especially, that they run away from you eventually and shrink. Couple of times I caught myself in a situation where going after a health drop wasn't really worth it in the end, since heart lost more from an invader than I gained from picking up a health drop. I wish there was something else to do, like maybe a grenade to throw at a cluster of enemies or maybe a melee attack with a push to repel the parasites away from the heart. Graphics are fine for a jam. Could be better though. Music choice was good, and the sound effect of dispensing your health to your heart went organically with it. Pretty good! Background really hurt my eyes, this fleshy red, but I got used to it after a while. Overall, a good entry with tight gameplay! Screenshot from 2020-05-11 14-25-31.png

Special thanks to respecting other aspect ratios besides 16:9. I was pleasantly surprised that your game scaled nicely on my 21:9 display!

I really missed gamepad controls here. Movement and shooting actually worked, but I couldn't control the look direction. I would recommend mapping shooting on right trigger and controlling look direction on a right thumbstick. It would work like a charm! And some button should also dispense your health to your heart. I think this kind of game would be great on a gamepad!

Thank you for participating in **feedback exchange program**!

@bellatrion, you are welcome! Developed on Linux, btw :)

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-22T00:29:29Z

Hey, @melomel. Thanks for playing our game! We really appreciate all the feedback you guys give us. I'm glad to hear you liked it. As to your question, we don't have any further plans for this game for now. But we are currently on a hunt for good game ideas, so it is surely not off the table.

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-22T01:24:58Z

@fatpenguin, we've uploaded a new repacked version for macOS (in a dmg container). Credits for fixing it goes to @shaolin-dave :) Seemed to be some problems with executable bits in files inside .app. Anyways, it should work now! If you are still interested in trying out our game, we would appreciate if you let us know how it went!

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-22T11:59:21Z

@bongooo Thank you :) @nablaz Thank you for your feedback!

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-23T16:40:06Z

@kjscott, thank you for your feedback! Indeed, maybe we needed to be more clear there with the message. Something like "Press ESC(B) to skip" maybe. I'm wondering about the performance issues you've encountered. Could you tell me, on which platform build did you play and if it's a web build, which browser did you use?

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-23T16:53:44Z

@dodormeur, now that you point it out, I very much agree. We have a stagger animation, but it's very short - somewhere around 0.2 seconds. I didn't want player to be "stun-locked" so I kept it short. Maybe we could use also some different cue, like character sprites blinking for a short duration after being hit. Or just a different animation. Thanks for feedback!

stagger_animation.gif

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-23T17:13:39Z

@sandra-jasionowska, stutters, hmm... That's probably because I was lazy and didn't load scenes asynchronously :) On my machine, transitions are very smooth and practically instant, but I have a high-spec hardware. Well, that's good to know for future. Thank you!

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-24T14:42:43Z

@giulia, we actually had a discussion recently on how to do illustrative cutscenes fast for jams and if its worth the time spent. If we can do it in an hour timeframe, maybe its worth it. Thank you!

@sofy35 and @alexey-kuzovkov, I'm glad you liked our entry! Thank you for your feedback!

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-24T18:48:17Z

Thanks, @tom-stroll, some great feedback there! I was thinking on shortening the intro, maybe adding some art to go with it. Thanks, again!

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-04-25T13:26:27Z

@splitpainter, one of the ideas that got cut was procedurally animated tree. I wanted it to be fully rigged with bones and change color, maybe loose leaves gradually, but well... We ran out of time.

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-05-04T09:06:28Z

@gustavo-christino, @marcusnystrand, @vugars, @matootsy, @nathalia-hohl Thank you for feedback! We truly appreciate it!

The lack of UI indicator for tree health was actually intentional. We didn't want to show tree HP as some abstract value, instead we opted to change its visuals when it goes from happy-and-wet to dry-and-dead. I still think that tree health indicator probably is an overkill in this case, but the visual representation could certainly be improved. And thanks to feedback, I realized that we could certainly use some cues like a sound effect to announce change in tree state. Maybe if the tree gets dangerously close to dying, druid could show a speech bubble with a graphic of dying tree, thus notifying player of his worry and approaching defeat.

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-05-07T18:20:46Z

@ausstein Thanks for playing! Actually, this is the first time we see someone else playing the game! BTW, you almost made it to the end!

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-05-07T18:23:29Z

@mika-la-grand Thank you for your feedback! We wanted to do cactus seeds, but it was cut by the end. Acorns are a sign of your progress and it's, basically, your score. And you just have infinite seeds :) If you finish the game, you are shown how many acorns you've collected. I'll tell you a secret... Acorns are a number of waves that are coming to take your tree down ;) With each wave you get one, and when you defeat the last one, you win!

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-05-07T20:25:18Z

@papaver, thank you for your feedback! Game ends after 12 acorns. We kept it short (under 10 minutes), so we could test and iterate on it in our limited time. Basically, you win after you defeat all the hordes (12 waves total). However, now I think acorns should probably fall after you defeat monsters.

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback and suggestions! We've released a 1.1 post-jam version of the game. Please mind, that you should still use version 1.0 for rating, if you haven't already! If you liked our entry you can check our post-jam version on our itch.io. Web build is still 1.0 for the sake of rating, so you need to download native build. Main changes are: gardening cacti requires seeds now, optional harder difficulty level available, increased player movement speed, cutscene got illustrations and more. You can see full list in the description. At least I think it is full, since I was compiling it late last night ;) Thank you for playing our game!

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-05-11T13:54:51Z

@gwinnell, you could try to intercept a dash with an attack, but it is hard. Better either to lure him into a stormy cloud, or to predict where he will stop and get there by the time he stops and lock him with a sequence of your attacks. Attacks interrupt his actions.

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-05-11T19:56:18Z

@bredian, you're absolutely right! Unfortunately, there is a dominant strategy here. We have tamed it a little in a post-jam version by introducing cactus seeds, that player needs to plant cacti. But I think it's just lack of better alternatives for now, that keeps it still dominant. In future versions we are planning on introducing some other powers/activities for the druid, as well as more interactive map features. Thank you for your feedback!

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-05-11T20:43:47Z

@bredian I'll have a look into it and try out your suggestions. I think maybe +50% time needed for a seed to drop, but would have to be tested if it's not too overwhelming. And yeah those pools are kind of randomly placed ;) Thanks, man, this is really helpful!

The Last Guardian by civmaniac 2020-05-12T12:09:01Z

New post-jam version 1.1.2 released, featuring better overall game balance, optional easy difficulty level and support for ultra-wide aspect ratios. Please use original 1.0 submission for rating purposes (Web version is still 1.0 until rating window is closed).

Zorla's Tavern by Nexushub 2020-04-22T14:44:07Z

Made me laugh! Good story, introduction in the beginning is really great! Graphics are really nice. Gameplay loop is boring, you probably know it. Although, growing the beast is really satisfying. Seeing it tearing those silly adventurers to pieces. Great animations and good choice of sounds, btw! Not for the mouse, I feel like my carpal is coming back xD

Whacktory by sndsgood 2020-04-21T19:52:27Z

Very good entry! Graphics, animation and music goes nicely together and create nice mood. Good job! I would suggest one fix. The left-right movement controls behave differently from up-down keys, which confuses me a lot. I'm not sure that was the supposed effect. Either left and right mapping should be swapped, or up with down, IMHO. I have played on the web build. Thank you.

untitled by BEBADBOI 2020-04-21T19:38:43Z

Works on Linux, though I have no sound coming out. Not sure what's the problem is. Looks very atmospheric. A fantastic setup for some mystic adventure game.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Stuck in an inner tube! by UkuleleFury 2020-10-11T21:36:34Z

Mechanics are simple, but well utilized. Makes for an addictive gameplay. Some of those jumps are really diabolical and I dig it! Fitting visuals and sounds, well done! Also, Godot, yay! Ran it from source.

Lร–ร–PS by Tamail 2020-10-15T23:30:38Z

I don't know why, but I had fun! xD I find this game really charming! This cat tycoon could use some strategy elements, though ;) Thanks for a Linux build, btw!

Quantum Split by InitialPosition 2020-10-08T19:47:26Z

I like the puzzle part, tough one. Atmosphere is pretty cool. For some reason, it reminds me of the Lost Vikings, except you are all three at the same, or should I say parallel, time? ;)

Paradox by IndieRonin 2020-10-15T22:46:03Z

Clever trick with the ending. I have to admit, I have explored every crack in the cube, even fell through the geometry once ;). Nice mood thanks to the soundtrack! I think, graphics could use a bit of darker tones to amplify mystery, maybe some glow around cracks. I enjoyed movement mechanics when I got... hmm... a hang of it? ;). Nice to see a 3D game made in Godot. Well done!

EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot to mention - Linux build ran well for me!

Saint Uck by 11thPenguin 2020-10-15T22:11:14Z

Cool concept of limiting directions for movement and also well visualized. At first, I didn't realize that the game limits my options and thought it's bugged, since it was auto-correcting my aiming. It is kind of obvious if you pay attention, though. Both thumbs up for a Godot game! You could make a web build, because most people are too lazy to download ;) I ran it from source on Linux. Worked well for me. Game "crashed" into debugger somewhere after level3.tscn. My guess is code ran out of levels to load ;)

iLoop - the 2D endless runner game of a robot stuck in a loop :) by melvinng 2020-10-15T23:51:35Z

Congratulations on finishing your first entry! Bonus points for a Godot game! I really dig your art, style and music, but gameplay, I'll be honest, is just too simplistic. Would be nice to have some variance. Maybe mobs could occasionally jump too, giving a player some cue, that they are going to do so. Some food could cause different effects: speeding up, slowing down, increasing jump force, invulnerability that turns enemies into prey (pacman-style).

Noticed there's a bit of "shimmering" around pixel edges. I wonder if enabling pixel snap in project settings could help with that.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Let's Go Deeper by Deozaan 2021-05-01T18:55:02Z

I enjoyed the game! Couldn't beat Honest Dan's score, but still got pretty high on the table! ^^ The only real complaint is stretching on wider displays. Check my screenshot.

Hellfall by Tom Robson 2021-04-28T14:44:46Z

I really love the punchy colors, the outlines and bright flames and cinder particles combined with dark tones of the levels. Pacing is well done, introducing different mechanics and enemies at consumable rate. And gives a different feel to each circle of hell. Great atmosphere overall! Well done!

Got stuck at 6th or was it 7th circle? I'm not sure that one is beatable. My last attempt was a near perfect jumping sequence. I swear, that flame wall is cheating! xD But I'll be honest, I'm not that good at this kind of games.

We Have to Go Deeper! by Scott Steffes 2021-04-29T12:31:46Z

20,000 Leagues by marcmagus 2021-05-01T18:08:27Z

Just wanted to thank you again for playing our game on stream the other day! We played your game with @fabula-rasa, so I dropped by to do my bit of voting. Very nice game and I appreciate that you made art as well! Card mechanics reminded me somewhat of Terraforming Mars, one of my favorite games! Thank you for making yours! :)

Ninja Descension by Adam_B 2021-04-27T18:25:19Z

I liked the mechanics, especially death-from-above-style jumping and attacking. I had some collision issues, where my attacks didn't land when they should have. Especially, when running and attacking at the same time. I must say, even a very simple AI would be a big improvement xD. Glad to report that Linux version worked fine for me. Good job!

Catlantis by fabula_rasa 2021-04-27T20:03:13Z

@ashlynn Sorry to hear that! Not really sure what could be the issue, and we don't have a Mac to test.

EDIT: In the past, we had a permission issue with MacOS bundles exported in Godot. chmod +x may help. Like this:

chmod +x "/Applications/Catlantis.app/Contents/MacOS/Catlantis"

Catlantis by fabula_rasa 2021-04-27T22:08:19Z

Looks like the code is not signed and Mac refuses to launch it. Thanks for clarifying. At least now I have an idea what the problem is.

Catlantis by fabula_rasa 2021-04-29T23:11:14Z

Heeeeey, @trexxak! Nice to see you are jamming again :)! We are still recovering from our burn-out xD! This was such a hard LD for us. All the pieced came up together practically in the last 2 hours. Thank you for such a great and super detailed feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed the game we made! Still have to check out yours! I'll get to it soon.

@eduardo-yukio, Kiki getting confused - yeah that can happen! We didn't use pathfinding, but some raycasting and steering tricks! I call it "pathwinding"!

@andrewkennedy, whoa too slow in 1.0.1 ?! You should have seen it in 1.0 xD We indeed wanted the game to be chill, but not like way too easy.

@juutis, yeah... Initially, we had an oxygen plant near the entrance to the cave, so it was a bit easier to spot the item. But then I made "improvements" in the last hour... xD Anyway, it's back where it should have been from the start. Hopefully, that place is harder to skip now! Thanks!

Thank you everyone who played our game and dropped by to tell us about it! We finally put time to address the biggest bugs the game had. I'm really surprised it didn't fall apart at places, considering how rushed some pieces came out to be.

Selkรถ by Doot 2021-04-27T18:50:32Z

Great ending! xD I wonder if there are other endings, depending on which glyphs you activate in the end. Overall, it's really atmospheric and moody! I only wish there was some freedom in exploring.

Pescuit Pe Plajฤƒ by Trexxak 2021-05-01T17:51:15Z

That was an amusing experience! Loved the art-style! Would love music more, if it didn't try to go through one ear *laughs*. I chose convenience btw, since you didn't make a Linux build ;)

I stayed for quite a while to see what I can fish out and was rewarded with some interesting finds. Here is my greatest discovery:

giant_poop3.png

One can wonder about composition. Was it coincidence, or some kind of prophetic message from the author... xD

birb by Glaas 2021-04-28T14:11:04Z

Nice victory moves, bird! :D Pretty cool it worked with wider than 16:9 aspect ratio. PS: Got stuck at some point after a dig, with movement disabled. Luckily, it resolved after the timer ran out, so I didn't have to replay :).

Trapdoor in the Garden by InitialPosition 2021-05-01T16:44:20Z

I enjoyed the graphics, it's consistent and pleasant to my eyes. Music is cool and reminded me somewhat of FTL. An animated tutorial is a nice touch, especially for a Compo game :). I'm not necessarily agreeing to those hit boxes xD. Having played a number of rogue-likes(-lites), the difficulty is about right for me, maybe harder than an average lite out there. But for an LD game, maybe a bit too hard. RNG can be harsh as expected. Some enemies seemed invulnerable to damage. Not sure, I liked that. Overall, it is a polished and pleasant experience! A very nice compo entry!

Made about 6 attempts and here is my best score so far:

Dive & Dig by andrewkennedy 2021-04-29T13:10:10Z

A novel concept. Took me awhile to figure out, that I need to drill *through* the wall! It was a bit confusing that speech popups are dismissed with the same button as movement is done. But when I got through the initial friction, it was fun! Reminded me of some old arcade games. Sound and art is on spot. Good game!

That's how deep I got:

Very cool strategic game! Visuals and animation are simply 5 stars. Gameplay is also engaging. Reminded me somewhat of Curious Expedition. Great job, guys! Shame I couldn't try second world again after I quit the game!

Karawan by Rongo Matane 2021-10-08T22:10:27Z

Mac executables need to be signed, I think. They simply don't run anymore on recent Mac systems without a proper Apple dev account signing them. Not 100% sure, though. Previous LD we also had folks complains about Mac version not working.

Crumbling Mind by NoeTheLazyDev 2021-10-07T14:51:04Z

Nice graphics and animations. Especially liked your shader effects. It was fairly challenging and caught myself saying c'mon bear a few times! Depression message was a bit disruptive, since it took a whole screen, but the game was still going on the background. I think this could be handled better. And bonus points for a Godot game. I enjoyed it. Good job, guys!

Mint by Prรฉda 2021-10-07T14:23:25Z

I really enjoyed your entry, guys! Wish there was more ;). I see film grain, chromatic aberration and storytelling - sign me up! This game has a strong Alien vibe to it, get it? ;) I liked how you used colors and lights to show interactive game pieces. Maybe doors that could be opened should also have a special color of light, e.g. yellow. Great job!

Neon Tower by Sli 2021-10-10T02:37:11Z

I played and seen games streamed with similar ideas and, so far, this one I like the most. Glow of shapes and colors create a pleasant impression. Did you use WorldEnvironment Glow effect or did you draw the sprites like that?

I tried for a while, but couldn't make it to the end. Bloody hard and I like it! Some shapes probably should be simpler to be used, though. This is my best run:

Wonky Brew by civmaniac 2021-10-06T10:41:05Z

@mathgeek That's Godot and web builds. It crackles between scene changes. Changing a browser could help a bit, but otherwise I don't know how to fix it. Native version should work fine.

Wonky Brew by civmaniac 2021-10-09T14:24:41Z

@sakura-magika Hey! Thanks for detailed feedback! About prep stations. Originally, we wanted to place them apart, but since we don't indicate where which ingredient is supposed to be prepared, we feared it would cause too much confusion for a jam game. And judging by feedback, it is a problem. Eventually, we went with them being in the same place and I can see why that is not the best. One thing I was thinking about is spreading stations around the room, but maybe color code ingredients and stations, so that it's more understandable where which should go. Or have a more sane connection between them, like you suggested :).

Progress indicator would be nice, but not sure how to present such a thing. Just a progress bar is not great imho. Maybe an old clock in the corner or a window indicating time of day, and player goal is to get to the morning without totally screwing up. I guess, a progress bar under cauldron could work too.

The thing about time, PAR time is supposed to indicate average competent time of completion, which I calculated from my best run +30 seconds. It's an incentive for players to beat it, if they want to play again. 00:01 however is strange, I didn't see that bug happening until you reported. It should show your play time for the successfully completed run or --:--:--. I'll check it out. And thanks again!

Half Summoned by Game Endeavor 2021-10-06T21:58:01Z

I hope Geoffrey gets well! ;) I enjoyed the physical aspect of the game. It's nice to see enemies pushed around and respond to your attacks and move around and away from you instead of simply charging. I always enjoy such things in games. I agree with Tom, that life drain could be more emphasized, as I didn't realize what that form was doing until my second run. Good entry! :) And thanks for playing our game!

I really like the aesthetics of the game. From colors and shapes to perspective. Everything looks really nice! It's a pleasure to look at. All the little details bring place to live. However, I found gameplay boring. It's same thing over and over with little to no variation. I've read the description and I see now, that you wanted to focus more on the environment, and you totally succeeded there. It's a nice cozy place!

We've made a post-jam version with some improvements based on your comments. Web version will stay 1.0 until jam is over, and native builds 1.0 are still available.

Here's a list of changes: - Improved jumping and better controls. - New enemy: Ghost. - Player can now jump on bullets. - New particle effect plays when window gets fully cleaned. - Revised pizza box graphics.

Thank you for your feedback!

Fall Girl by civmaniac 2022-10-19T11:58:11Z

@papaver Glad you liked it! Thanks for suggestions! I like the idea of adding the splashes. The bug with jumping we fixed in post-jam. The music hanging is not only on your laptop, it is a common issue with Godot web export.

Hover Bites by Togis 2023-05-08T10:54:44Z

I like the futuristic (almost solar punk) serene atmosphere that music and graphic style creates. Nice touch introducing new buildings after player gets to know the mechanics. Browsing the daily reports was useful to gauge if I have improved the chain on the next day. Antialiasing wasn't enabled on my side - couldn't help but notice all the jagged edges

On the improvement suggestions, some fonts were too small in comparison with the rest of the UI - some more consistent UI would be nice. Would be cool to see pops coming to the burger and salad places and coming out with big bellies. Thanks for a very nice game! :smiley_cat: And, by the way, thanks for the Linux version!

Disk Dasher by Andreadbx 2023-05-03T18:12:05Z

Delivery Boy Express by civmaniac 2023-05-04T17:41:30Z

@XeduR, thanks for playing! Any thoughts on how to improve controls?

Delivery Boy Express by civmaniac 2023-05-04T22:22:48Z

@xedur That's the thing, I can't see a good solution. Increasing rolling/tilting speed would lead to even more such problems with right and left thruster controls, because camera would have to catch up more often. Increasing camera speed leads to comfort issues and motion sickness. Personally, I don't have problems with controls, but I understand why some people have issues. How to fix/improve the controls is another thing. Haven't got a clue so far.

Delivery Boy Express by civmaniac 2023-05-07T21:48:52Z

@niz Yep, red arrows are the gravity pull and more arrows indicate stronger gravity (4 arrows - the strongest). Controls sadly take some time to get used to, can't seem to figure out how to improve them. Ironically, we are working on post-jam version with optional challenges that increase the difficulty . And thanks for playing, appreciate good feedback!

Syntech Surfer by Xandruher 2023-05-04T10:11:49Z

I liked your motion the most from all the hoverboard games I've tried! It's not perfect, but very good. Some smoothing or lerp to the speed would be nice - it felt like speed changes too rapidly, which I wouldn't expect from a hoverboard. Love the camera effect on boost! Map is pretty, but not very challenging. Visuals are very nice! Here's some improvement suggestions: light pillars could give a speed boost when hit and same for jumping - a small speed boost when landing - stronger boost for longer time spent in the fall.

@trexxak Not harsh at all. You raised good points. We had a good time watching your playthrough! Even finished the game on the first try, congratulations! It turned out to be quite long: I guess most people who don't manage wouldn't go for the second try. We had no clue how long it will be since some of the systems were implemented mere hours before submission. Wizard n' Slims by rickylee 2023-10-04T12:45:21Z

Being locked into powers you select is probably not a good idea for a longer game, but for the jam it works. Makes me think what I want to choose. Interesting combinations of powers. MM is overpowered, and regeneration makes me go immortal/infinite too easily. Used to play NetHack, and wizard is my fav class, so your entry instantly appealed to me. Only sad part is that it's too easy. Lots of fun on the lowest levels! Good game!

A Clash of Horns by fabula_rasa 2024-04-18T08:38:31Z

Thanks for playing, everyone!

@james-dunlap You start with a randomly generated deck, and you always get a stable rate of sorceries and summons. It is possible you got a bad start - balancing is hard during jams  Each of the three opponents have their own biases to spells they like, and they are getting progressively stronger each time you defeat them, so you are expected to "loose" in this game - it's about staying alive for as long as you can. I also noticed it's not obvious for some players that they should use discard actions each and every turn - a tactical choice whether to draw more cards or get more mana, and if not used - it only leaves opponent with more advantage. @jacobingalls You can see more unit stats in a tooltip, for both hostile and friendly summons. It shows the card itself in the upper middle of the screen.

@conrad-etherton Thanks for letting us know. We fixed some of the game-breaking bugs in the update 1.0.1.

A Clash of Horns by fabula_rasa 2024-04-18T08:41:50Z

@togis Gotcha! You are promoted!

A Clash of Horns by fabula_rasa 2024-04-20T19:16:31Z

@justaroom Holy moly, congratulations on your high score! :confetti_ball: Enemies indeed get absurd amount of mana with time, and the player is basically doomed. That's because we didn't want the game to keep going into infinity, and didn't have time to test the balance to create a proper sequence of enemies this time around (we did that for ROLLiE during last jam).

A Clash of Horns by fabula_rasa 2024-04-21T00:40:46Z

@frank-gevaerts Hey! Thanks for playing and the feedback! :unicorn: I looked through code, and the shuffling looks good to me. What likely may have happened is that you got a deck with that kind of spells from the start. It's randomized, and the procedure only cares that a certain ratio of sorceries to summons is maintained. And some enemies also have predetermined bias for buffs and debuffs. In the retrospect, I should've put some precautions from generation becoming too boring.

The Royal Writ by Save Sloth Studios 2024-04-23T12:19:43Z

Excellent graphics and music, gameplay is a little on the easy side, but fun nonetheless! Storytelling cutscenes is a great touch, love it. I liked some card designs, like the twins. Would be nice to have some undo functionality for card placement. Great work!

Throes of the Javelin by MatterLinx 2024-04-27T14:59:40Z

This game really wants you to learn different tricks. I liked that you can use javelin in different ways, and learning various interactions is quite fun. And great mood and aesthetics! The game itself was frustrating at times, but I figured it comes with the genre. I think the impulse you get from returning spear could be more consistent, though. It was really hard to predict the back push. Eventually, I got to the end room with some collectibles. At least I think it is the end game, if you believe the soundtrack! Good game :v:

@papaver Thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it!

We got a small "tooltip" on the side, like this:

2024-10-09_21-44-35.png

It shows how far a unit can move and how far it can shoot, and the same for enemy units. We made it low-key, so it's not distracting, but I guess it became harder to notice? Ideally, it would be cool to visualize distance and attack patterns on the map for enemy units, but we ran out of time for that.
