LD33 — You are the Monster

Monster Jailbreak by voxel 2015-08-24T12:24:00

The music is alright, but gets rather repetitive quickly. The sound effects are... voiced, I'm guessing? It sounds rather weird and jarring in combination with the music. It would probably have been better to try to make SFX in the same style.

The graphics are fine. It could use some more animations to make it more interesting.

Game wise it is a simple platformer, nothing new there. Sadly the controls are very heavily inertia based. While this works OK with the gigantic platforms, it would still feel a lot better if they were tighter and allowed more precise control of the character.

There's a couple of oddities in the game that could be qualified as bugs. The camera is not always on point, the jump isn't always registered, and the ending screen's grammar could be improved.

Overall, a nice entry, but it could be expanded in a variety of ways to make it more interesting. For example, adding in further types of platforms with different properties, or simple key/jail mechanics that would force the player to actually use the other characters, rather than having them as a sort of gimmick.

Itty Bitty Bites by Andrew Adams 2015-08-24T17:14:00

Would have been nice to have a display for the keyboard controls as well.

Otherwise, very cutesy as advertised. The music and effects are very simplistic, but they match the theme well enough. Overall from a presentation standpoint this is very well done.

The movement unfortunately feels bogged-down and with the tiny playfield it is quite a bit too constrained and awkward to roam around. Sometimes physics things happen while I have no idea what caused them, which can be pretty confusing.

I could see this becoming a very fun little party game to play with friends if it were made to be just a lot quicker, requiring more swift reactions and movement to compete in thrashing the buildings.

Road To Hell by Hyoga-3D 2015-08-24T14:45:00

A rather classic game. Unfortunately the window size feels quite awkward on a computer. I understand this was developed with mobile platforms in mind, but it would have been very nice to have a wide-view, or in the very least a square-view available.

The style is probably this game's biggest strength, as it feels well put-together and doesn't clash with anything. All the parts fit and work with each other.

Music wise it's a rather simple track that unfortunately gets a bit repetitive quickly. The sound effects are fine as they are.

Regarding the 'rules': That hitting cars that go in your direction increases speed is pretty counter-intuitive. One would expect that any kind of collision would slow you down. Instead something like speed-panels that are obviously marked up with flashing arrows might have been a better choice.

The tunnels that occasionally pop up also feel unnecessarily punishing. Since I can't see into them, I'm pretty much at the game's mercy about whether I hit a car in it or not.

Island Terror by TooMuchPete 2015-08-24T20:02:00

The Data folder is missing from the Windows download, making it impossible to play. The web version worked fortunately enough.

Generally the game gets repetitive pretty quick. This could be fixed by adding additional elements to the game such as enemies for the monster, such as villagers with spears, change of environment by having villagers build things for you to destroy and so forth.

Additionally it would be nice if you could attack the villages themselves in order to destroy them completely. That would also provide for some form of a goal, instead of just trying to chase villagers for as long as possible.

The graphics are fine, though it is a bit strange that the monster and terrain has nicely textured sprites, while the villagers and villages themselves remain mere circles.

Monster City Rampage by KamikaziUk 2015-08-24T12:35:00

A fine little physics toybox.

Sadly that's pretty much all there is to it already. I'm not sure why the game switches to an almost silent ambient noise music track once you actually start it instead of remaining on the rather funky menu music. This and the complete lack of sound effects make it a rather bleak entry.

Apparently the end of the world follows you as you move to the right, since as soon as you turn to the left there's a giant gap that you can fall down into and off the map. I'm guessing the world is cut off to reduce the amount of physics objects and increase performance. However, it would've been much better if the view was prevented from moving left at all, making it impossible for the player to jump off the map.

The movement of the character is very constrained and most of the time you'll just find yourself mashing the left and right mouse buttons to get around. Having the buildings be harder to demolish and making the jumping actually work well would've allowed a much less linear experience by forcing players to move up and around the buildings, rather than to just stand around on the ground and wait for the bomb to recharge.

Style wise the world itself looks alright, but the player character is oddly out of place in this. It would've been more fitting, and perhaps even funnier, to have a similarly block-like player, than this weird sprite form.

Speaking of sprite form, generally allowing the player to move around freely rather than being constrained to a single axis could have made this a lot more engaging already and help reduce the repetitiveness of it all.

Monstering Monsters by NickMakesGames 2015-08-24T16:59:00

What to say, what to say.

The graphics are a nice beginning. It feels rather empty though. I understand the need for a large, open area in order to leave the player room to dodge, but it would have been nice if it had been integrated a bit better into the overall game. Instead of just a flat room, it could have been an entrance hall in a mansion with various things to throw in the corners. Just generally more detail in the background would have helped to make it more visually interesting.

It's nice to see a game that has some semblance of a story worked into it, that was very refreshing. Reading the various blurbs at the beginning of each stage was nice.

When typing things out I felt very constrained and unnecessarily stressed out rather than genuinely challenged. I can't move around while typing something or while moving the speech bubble around, so I'm completely exposed and pretty much up to the game's mercy as to whether I'll get hit in the process. A way to move both the parent and the speech bubble at the same time would have helped alleviate that problem.

Otherwise the gameplay follows a nice difficulty curve, arching upwards and adding new elements to liven it up. Well done on that!

Cruelty by Jeasonfire 2015-08-24T17:54:00

Let's see.

Primarily the problem is that the game doesn't seem to fit the theme very well. It is a neat start for a general management/building game, but other than that there isn't much to say about it.

When selecting a group of people, they can become wildly out of sync in relation to where they're moving if they're hitting something and get held back because of that. It's very hard to get them to actually gather resources, it seems that it requires a very particular positioning to get the entities to actually 'get' it. When running into the building to get the spears it's all too ease to drop it again by hitting the building again. There's no way to scroll back in the message log, and the small backlog is just too small to be able to make it out properly. The enemy AI doesn't really seem to do anything beyond just hitting the trees and rocks.

It's nice that you put some effort into getting a day/night cycle and making the map look appealing though. Generally the style of the game is alright, though it could have been streamlined further by making all objects very hard-edged (particularly the rocks and the surrounding terrain) to fit in with the rest of the trees and buildings.

So yeah. This seems like a base to start out from. With some more time and work this could turn into a nice game.

Coconuts by congusbongus 2015-08-24T14:54:00

A neat little entry. Reminds me of the time when I was smaller and played flash games all day.

At first I wasn't quite sure whether my mouse cursor position or anything else I pressed had any influence on where the coconuts were going. A little arrow indicator that tells you where it will fly might have helped alleviate that question.

Sound wise this is perfectly fine. The track and effects are nicely goofy and fit into the overall theme of the work. Perhaps the effects could have been made a bit quieter to make the music stick out better.

The graphics are simple and charming. The coconuts feel a bit out of place as they are textured, whereas everything else is flat.

I really liked the bounce mechanic of the coconuts as a way to create combos. I think it could've been expanded further upon, where you have special types of coconuts that bounce differently, or fly differently, etc. That would have helped improve the variety of the game and increase its replayability.

Theme wise I'm sorry to say that I don't see this fitting in very well. While this palm tree is certainly a nuisance to the tourists, I wouldn't exactly call it a monster. Maybe an ape throwing around soft-drinks or something similar would have worked better.

Meeuw by TomBoogaart 2015-08-24T13:13:00

A hilarious and fun little time waster.

Now, please avoid using the Z key in the future, as it is extremely awkward on non-QWERTY keyboards. Sure, it is reconfigurable, but having something else like space be the default action key in this would've been a better choice.

The game overall is very well put together. By which I mean that everything (with the exception of music, which is sadly missing) fits together to form a nice whole. A Gesamtkunstwerk, as one might call it. The movement, animation, graphics, and effects all complement each other and are perfectly in theme to form a simple and clearly silly game.

I'm not entirely sure what else I could say about it. Aside from the music there is scarily little that could still be improved. Perhaps having more clearly laid-out goals --I was not sure why I would be collecting these small pillars? or if that's what I was supposed to be doing-- might be better. Maybe a counter for how many things you've destroyed so far could be neat.

Definitely one of the best entries I've played here. Very well done.

Detonate by AdenMansonGames 2015-08-24T15:46:00

A sweet little game.

Generally though it could still be improved by quite a margin. First and foremost, having some kind of panel as a background to the HUD would improve readability a huge lot. As it is now, it's very hard to make out the text. The ending animation also seems to go on forever. It just left me sitting there for quite a while without me knowing whether anything more was going to happen.

Controls wise, the game could've been made a lot more fun if we had some sort of jetpack that allowed at least a limited amount of control while in the air. As it is now, you can be at the mercy of gravity for a very long time. Limited air control would also have allowed you to space the planets out more liberally, and would have increased the skill required to play it, rather than the chance of knowing when to jump by trial and error.

The sounds are ok. Nothing remarkable, but not altogether awful either.

If you had taken more time than just ten hours a lot of the problems with this game could have been easily fixed and improved upon. Hopefully you'll have more time the next time around!

Eat Sheep & Die by Conk 2015-08-24T15:57:00

A very neat game. The graphics are nice and consistent, charming all over. The animations and variety in the sheep add on to the effect.

The music and effects work well together with the overall theme of the game. Perhaps the sound effects could have been a little bit quieter.

Generally it was a bit too easy for me to gain camo, and soon I was fully camouflaged, but also so slow that I couldn't really get anywhere anymore. A way to shake off your camo would have been nice so that you could continue the game.

Overall pretty nicely done, though it could use some more variety by --say-- adding more things to do with the camo. Things I can think of off the top of my head include losing it due to wind gusts, having to colour it to get to certain type of sheep, being able to hide in spots to avoid enemies, etc.

An usual Day In a Troll's life by ajopart 2015-08-24T13:01:00

There's a couple of places where you can fall off the map, in which case the game will react by simply stopping the camera and letting everything else move. There's no way to get out of it, and you won't die of it. Rather annoying!

Now, on to things that aren't bugs: The music is alright and fitting to the theme of the game. However, it could loop a bit better. As it is right now it's rather noticeable where it stops and starts again.

Graphics wise it's fine. Most of the game is well stylized with the exception of the random mob in the back, which for some reason is just a long, non-transparent plane of a scanned notepaper. Needless to say it feels rather jarring and out of place. Maybe having a dark dust cloud instead (I'm sure unity has something like that in stock), or at the very least making it transparent so that it doesn't look like a straight plane would be much better.

There's a few places on the map that could make use of slopes quite well and instead just have abrupt height differences. I'm guessing this is because slope mechanics haven't been added to the game at all, so they were avoided altogether. This is rather sad, since allowing the player to move up or down on the map could have livened up the game play by quite a bit.

T.H.E.Y by WuPex 2015-08-25T08:58:00

I'm sorry, I couldn't get myself to finish your game.

The controls are just incredibly hard to handle and very awkward. I kept turning in a direction I didn't expect and fell off the platform in the introduction part at least three times before I realized what was actually going on. The flames seem to start from the wrong end and I get hit by them even when the particles don't actually reach me yet, which is quite infuriating.

The graphics are fine otherwise. Simplistic and abstract for the most part that I could see, though the particle effects don't quite fit into that. When the platforms overlap there's gross texture clipping going on. You should look into techniques to avoid that from happening.

There's a spelling error in your introduction text.

I don't really understand the story going on. Why are they pigs? Is it metaphorical somehow? If so, I just can't see it; sorry.

Guessing by the awkwardness of the controls I would wager that this is one of your first games. If so, don't worry. Take a look at existing games and tutorials to see how they handle movement, then work on figuring out how to replicate that into a scheme that makes the player character fun to move around. Getting movement right is a core part of any game like this, and investing time into learning how to do it will definitely help you a lot in your next game. Good luck!

Petit Monstre by LeoM 2015-08-24T15:20:00

Tales of the Underworld: Rebellion of the Souls by ladybenko 2015-08-24T18:09:00

A nice, little, short platformer.

The tileset is good and it all fits together to form a great ambiance. Sadly the levels are extremely short and the music starts anew on each stage instead of continuing on, which is pretty awkward.

Overall there isn't much left to do to make this a full game except for expanding on it further. Adding more, longer stages, and perhaps a few more different block and enemy types to match it all together.

The End of All We Know by Shinmera 2015-08-24T16:42:00

There are no controls beyond movement. Crash into the planets to damage them.

p good by goodolvic 2015-08-24T20:13:00

Well. It's not much of a game, unless I'm missing something here. I tried handing things over to people but it seems I can't give things away. There's also no other interaction besides looking at people and the various advertisements, and picking up that one penny.

While the flavor-text and general mood are nice, it just doesn't amount to very much. It could be expanded a lot by adding further interactions with the various objects, as well as what adventure games are known for: combinational puzzles. Perhaps even a dialogue tree to allow us to interact a bit further.

I'm guessing the implication here is that we're the monster because we don't give anything to all the homeless people? In that case, why not drive the implication further by adding actual dialogue with the people that forces the player into awkward situations and so on? As it is now it doesn't feel like there is any real point to the game as the message is just too vague and there aren't any actual game play elements that could provide a point.

ORDEAL by Don_Martinez 2015-08-24T17:31:00

I can't seem to run it. Once I launch the game it just freezes my screen and I have to terminate it with the ask manager.

Grouchou The Ugly by moon519 2015-08-24T16:36:00

Well let's see what I can say about this.

There's a couple of lighting and texture problems on the map. Sometimes the character randomly starts to crouch for to me no apparent reason. The control scheme is also very unconventional.

While moving around it didn't seem like I had to crouch or actually hide from anything. The AI was dumb enough not to be able to follow me and I could outmaneuver pretty much anything. A radical simplification of the game could have helped a lot here. An example: Instead of villagers, have sight posts with search lights that move around in a well predictable manner. That way it would be immediately obvious once you've been detected, and the puzzles in the world could be designed around dodging these lights.

Generally I'm not sure what the story behind the game is. Why am I collecting these things? Why are they lying around randomly? Having items that are more in-theme with the rest of the village could have fixed that: Stealing chickens, produce sacks, or other random goods that match better with the rest.

I suppose it was a good first learning experience though and I wish you all the luck for your next entry. I'd suggest simplifying your initial game idea for that when it comes around. Taking a very simple idea and fleshing it out fully will result in a much more enjoyable game than trying to be overly ambitious and only finishing half of it all.

Insurgency Strike by nili 2015-08-24T12:13:00

When I first started the game I almost immediately ended it again, because I flew directly into the exit zone again by accident. By having a designated exit zone somewhere else on the map that could've been easily avoided.

While the helicopter itself controls just fine, it is incredibly hard to hit anything in this. I'm very confused as to why I have to shoot by clicking, yet can't aim to where my cursor is pointing.

The graphics themselves are very minimalistic, and while that can work just fine, in this it looks extremely bleak. I understand that that is probably done intentionally, but it still doesn't rectify the fact that from a game quality point of view, it is a detriment. Having things stand out more by adding colour, as well as adding a few effects here and there, would spice things up a lot and help make the game more engaging.

The additional camera view at the top right is probably supposed to be a major point of the game (simulating what you see on the news), but it is simply too small to be noticed while playing the game. It would've been much better if you could switch between 3rd-person view and this mounted camera view by hitting a button.

Overall it plays alright. If you make the shooting easier to control, this could turn out to actually be fun.

Crabs in da Pipe, yo! by Steven Colling 2015-08-24T12:48:00

Definitely inspired by the classic Mario Bros. title. Almost a bit too similar, it would've been nice to have some additional mechanics to mix it up.

The graphics and sound are the game's biggest strengths. It is visually consistent with nice background and sprites. The music and effects are fitting and complement each other quite well. You did a really good job on that.

Sadly the controls are rather weak. It is very hard to move the player around and hit the crabs on the head; given these constraints the time limit is simply way too low. However, these should be things that are easy to fix by fiddling around with the movement constants, so this could be turned into a fine game quite quickly.

A bug: When the time limit is below 10 and you get hit for a 10 seconds penalty, the game locks up completely and you have to force terminate it. Oh dear!

UFO by Polyganz 2015-08-24T16:45:00

The OS X application won't launch for some reason.

Bar the Door by Rose 2015-08-25T08:15:00

A very nice, basic idea.

While the core mechanic of the game is fine, it seems needlessly unforgiving and could definitely be expanded by quite a bit still. For example, it's almost completely up to the game's RNG as to whether you have any chance at barricading properly since the pieces you get are random and you need perfect timing to get it right.

The game also loses its touch rather quickly. It would be nice if it were mixed up a bit further by introducing pieces with a special effect such as filling a certain hole perfectly or damaging the monster in some fashion.

It could be further mixed up by, say, dropping multiple pieces on the side continuously and allowing the player to pick which ones to use. This could be made even more interesting by introducing a proper 2D physics engine that makes the pieces interact with each other, thus making things fly around if you try to barricade too hastily.

LD39 — Running out of Power

Robo Drainer by Hjalte 2017-08-01T18:41:22Z

Could have done with some more variety in the gameplay-- perhaps some way to fight back at a distance, rather than having to sneak up on the other robots until you can hit E without getting blasted. Other than that, I'm not sure if it was necessary to enable physics on the robot bodies. That doesn't really add anything to the game.

SPHEER by Split82 2017-08-01T19:18:06Z

A solid foundation for a lengthy puzzle game. With something on the side to give the player a way to flesh in the world a bit more outside of just the puzzles, this could be really good. The mechanics confused me a bit at first though, as I didn't realise that I could interact with the sphere from afar.

Cave Light by Rafael Alejandro 2017-08-01T15:03:43Z

Neat little game, though it could have definitely profited from a tighter control scheme and some more variety. It often felt like I was floating about rather than walking and jumping. Otherwise, I appreciated the more laid back approach to the theme and liked the calm atmosphere.

Zest & Goop by conk 2017-08-01T19:56:09Z

Well, it's a tower defence game. The power twist on the formula works pretty well, and the graphics and music work fine together. Since I don't really play tower defence games myself I can't say much about whether it holds up as a game in that genre.

The Music Box by DDRKirbyISQ 2017-08-01T19:30:05Z

By far the best game I've played so far. The art style feels nice and meshes together with the music and the dialogue to a very cozy and charming atmosphere and environment. Very nicely done.

hypotricae by blackoptics8 2017-08-01T16:22:26Z

Neat graphics, though the animation on the jump is way too distracting, so I probably would've complained about that as well even if this had been a completed game. I couldn't really tell by just the editor what the game was supposed to be like in the end, or how it would relate to the theme, though.

Running Voltgun by sinclairstrange 2017-08-01T18:53:07Z

Definitely a very presentable game, with a lot of polish in the graphics and audio departments. Unfortunately I've found enemies walking through walls and glitching around otherwise, so that was a bit disappointing to see. It seems also rather hard to avoid projectiles and enemies at times, which may be due to how cluttered the pixel graphics get at times, and the movement controls not being entirely fleshed out.

Blasphemy! by FelixMcFelix 2017-08-01T14:51:04Z

Quite alright, though the mechanics were way too unforgiving in places. The rather insulting game over screens didn't help my will to continue playing either, so I had to drop it before I could complete it.

Overall a nice effort, but it could've maybe used some more playtesting.

Quad and Cycl by ijzm 2017-08-01T18:19:23Z

It seems that the robots have achieved flight, as you can levitate indefinitely by just hitting up repeatedly. Them not running out of power either pretty much removes all of the puzzle elements from the game. That aside, the fact that you immediately switch between the characters as soon as you go across a charging station leads to a lot of frustrating forth and back as you try to move across one.

The music was nice though, which is a rarity in ludum dare entries. Good joj on that.

Shadow Lurkers by nusan 2017-08-01T19:08:01Z

Interesting concept for a game, though it definitely needs some fleshing out. With some more variety put in like a temporary flashlight, platforms to jump on, or differently behaving enemies, this could prove for an intriguing game.

Rise Shine Fall by ijona 2017-08-01T18:36:55Z

Radrover Snap!! by radmars 2017-08-01T18:24:53Z

Oh hey, it's Pokémon Snap on mars.

So, I had a lot of trouble controlling the game, as the cursor wasn't locked into the view, even if I fullscreened it, meaning I couldn't turn around all the way. Other than that, it's disappointing that you can't [mobe your bobby preebly](http://tinyurl.com/yayezd8v) as being on rails and looking around in and of itself isn't much fun.

robottodor by jelch 2017-08-01T18:47:36Z

The most solid game I've played so far. It feels complete and well-rounded. The graphics and music fit well together to form a relaxing environment. Unfortunately, the slow pacing and almost impossible to avoid snails detract from it all quite a bit.

Self Preservation by spencerjp 2017-08-01T18:56:58Z

An interesting game concept that could lead to a fun little time waster. I could see this being some sort of mobile app. One thing that could definitely be improved though is the transition between states. Even small animations or tweens would help a lot in letting the player see what's happening, rather than having to piece together the delta manually after each movement.

Winter Survival Game by glauz 2017-08-01T19:51:26Z

Unfortunately because you can't really do anything aside from picking up wood or returning to your hut, the gameplay quickly becomes repetitive. Having some other options like fighting the wolves, felling and planting trees for easier wood production, or other kinds of mechanics would help the game a lot.

Lights Out at Station 5 by Wisp 2017-08-01T16:57:42Z

Well, it's a real shame that your game broke last minute. I couldn't get any of the aliens to actually walk around, they always just glitched right on through into outer space. Otherwise, I can see how this could have turned out entertaining.

@red-fan-games: Looks like your system doesn't support the required GL features in some way. Do you have GL 3.3 capabilities?

@eott: The wall jump in that section should be super easy. Just hitting jump repeatedly without any other buttons should get you to the top quite quickly.

@alejandrodlsp @monoloon @ALeal-Dev @e-jp @Damoy @FelixMcFelix: I'm very sorry that the game doesn't run for you guys. It's unfortunately very hard to tell what's going on, since we can't reproduce the issue on our own Windows 10 x64 machines. If you could download [this](https://filebox.tymoon.eu//file/TVRNNE1nPT0=) alternative binary, replace the existing one in the folder and run it again, then it should produce a `trial.log` file that might contain some useful hints. If you could send me that, I would appreciate it a whole lot.

Edit: I've also just realised that you might simply need to install the visual c redistributable that is included with the windows download.

Rush by Shinmera 2017-08-02T06:19:01Z

@felixmcfelix Whoops, looks like the AMD drivers don't conform to the GLSL specification then. Thanks for the report! Here's a fixed up binary that sidesteps this issue: Hopefully that'll work.

Rush by Shinmera 2017-08-02T10:23:15Z

@holyblackcat Yeesh, that seems like an error originating somewhere in the GL driver. I'm not sure if I was able to fix it, but I've [updated the downloads](https://github.com/Shirakumo/ld39/releases/download/0.9/win64-ld39.zip) with a potential workaround.

Rush by Shinmera 2017-08-02T17:24:22Z

@felixmcfelix Sorry for all the trouble. I wish I had an AMD card to debug this with.

Rush by Shinmera 2017-08-04T11:40:44Z

@felixmcfelix The primary effect in the game comes from a rather intensive fragment shader, so I'm not surprised that low-end chips are lagging quite a bit.

Corrupted by Shess 2017-08-01T15:16:58Z

Pretty interesting and nifty concept for an action strategy type of game! I enjoyed it quite a bit, though the mechanics confused me a bit as new tiles came in and I lost too quickly. Maybe some way of being able to recover from a failure, or at least not receiving a full setback would have been nice.

Escape Velocity by Klowner 2017-08-01T16:14:55Z

Nice little game, though the movement mechanics were not enjoyable enough on their own. Made it feel more like a chore than a challenge after a bit. With some more tuning, this could have turned into a fun little time waster, though.

Embers by Mortadelegle 2017-08-01T15:58:00Z

I'm not entirely sure how this qualifies as much of a game, to be honest. Since there's no skill in clicking involved -- you can't click faster or more precisely -- and your choices impact the outcome only extremely minimally, there's just not much to do. The graphics are nice though, I guess.

Powerwatch by Gurbx 2017-08-01T18:10:34Z

The graphics are definitely very nicely rounded and well done. The movement and shooting works just fine and doesn't get in the way. The jump seems a bit too strong though, so I hardly ended up using it. As for the heavy and weak attacks, I don't know if there was much point to having the two, as there's no incentive to just damage an enemy rather than killing them completely, and there were no different enemy classes, so the heavy attack seems like the only way to go.

Doubt & Anger : a journey in space by namnam 2017-08-01T15:48:23Z

Nice little adventure game. The art style is very nice, would definitely like to see a full game done in the same style as this! I'm not sure I entirely got the whole "doubt your crew" part of the game since I could just click on everything until I got a new message and repeat that process to win the game.

Keep Shoveling by Twaldigas 2017-08-01T16:37:48Z

A neat little game. Reminds me of the good old days of online flash games. Unfortunately the limited scope of the game also means that you quickly run out of new things to do, so it gets old very fast. A great start into Ludum Dare, though.

DOHMIERE by Jesus Fermin Villar 2017-08-01T15:32:36Z

A nicely looking game that could've easily expanded into something bigger. Unfortunately the button prompts for the interactions with the environment are rather fickle and sometimes don't seem to pop up, confusingly enough. Definitely sets a nice mood, though.

Photon Phury by PanC4k3 2017-08-01T17:49:45Z

No matter what I tried, I couldn't manage to avoid any of the photons, given that they're homing, much faster than the robot, and that the robot has a huge hitbox. As such it seems rather impossible to me to actually beat the game and run out of power at any point, since the robot seems quite happy to go about without ever losing any energy whatsoever.

Power Crystals by chispaLBC 2017-08-01T17:59:25Z

The graphics are a nice touch, though the energy bar being a smooth rectangle is quite jarring when compared to the nicely pixely artwork that's present everywhere else. Other than that, there isn't much to say since it's such a simple game.

Our Stories by ciderWrath 2017-08-01T17:44:44Z

Well, all the grammatical errors aside, I felt like you were trying to push the theme of the jam too much. The dialogue felt rather forced at times because of that. The art style is alright, though there isn't much to see of that either. It felt weird to have a such a stark disconnect between what she was saying and her expression.

I need coffee! by kkrac 2017-08-01T16:26:19Z

Not much of a game, to be honest. Given that the characters wouldn't actually do anything interesting, there wasn't anything for me to get involved in. All the game ended up being was a click-the-button simulator.

uRUNium by yopox 2017-08-01T19:45:35Z

The graphics and theme work well together, but the gameplay was hampered quite a bit by the tremendously slow movement speed. I found myself holding right all the time, and it still feeling quite slow. The gradual introduction of new gameplay elements was a really neat touch though.

End of Machina Factory by zanagi 2017-08-01T17:15:31Z

I didn't really know what I was doing most of the time. Just clicking on the speech bubbles whenever they popped up seemed to be enough to just win the game, though I doubt that that was the intended effect. Otherwise, I was simply too confused about what was going on to really understand the mechanics that you were trying to show. I'm guessing this was mostly inspired by Infinifactory and games like that?

Maximum Velocity by rdm 2017-08-01T17:21:54Z

I could hardly manage to jump to another vehicle at all. It just seems to throw me out willy nilly without me having enough control over where I'm going to get to the next one.

Unplugged by TheM 2017-08-01T19:40:43Z

I'm really glad that you stuck to one mechanic, and did a lot of different things with it! That's rare for a ludum dare game. You could probably deepen out this mechanic even further by allowing you to smash through things with the plug, use it as a sort of lasso to drag items, and so forth. A really nice base for a game that could turn out very solid.

Power Surge by Neathan 2017-08-01T18:03:42Z

While the lighting effects and such gave way to a nice mood, a lot of the weapons were practically useless, as they wouldn't hit the enemies on the floor. Since I couldn't duck either, I had to wait for the enemies to drop down and hope I'd be able to land the hit. All in all this ended up making me not feel like much of a "murder machine".

ikon by Gregor 2017-08-01T16:33:04Z

I wasn't entirely sure what I was supposed to be doing. The newspaper clippings (?) were strange and I couldn't really read them, as they filled more than the entire screen. I have no idea if that was intentional or not. Since I couldn't really fight back against the monsters and instead could just run away to the exit there wasn't much for me to be doing in the game. A higher focus on gameplay could have definitely helped.

Mind's Eye by Aaron Ishibashi 2017-08-01T17:33:18Z

For most of the puzzles I didn't really know what I was doing and since the light goes out immediately, I have no way of confirming that pressing the buttons actually does what I assumed it would. Thus it would probably have helped quite a bit to introduce the mechanics to the player in a lit room so that they can gain an understanding of what kind of consequences their actions would have in a dark room. Otherwise, I've also found that the audio easily glitches out, leading the game to scream your ears full.

November Hail - LD39 by alexJ 2017-08-01T17:38:48Z

Unfortunately I can't say that the action part of the game is much fun. Since you get stuck on walls so easily, movement quickly becomes a chore. The quickly looping background music was quickly driving me nuts as well. Perhaps the game was a bit too ambitious for a ludum dare-- trying to incorporate and juggle all these different mechanics in a game for a jam sounds like you bit off more than you could chew. Focusing on a particular mechanic and making sure that it works out well to its full potential would have probably helped a lot.

DrillBill by NexusBreaker 2017-08-01T15:52:47Z

I wasn't actually sure where I should be going at all. Drilling for ore didn't seem to do anything but increase the counter, and the game didn't actually end once the O2 reached zero. I didn't know that I could breathe negative amounts. Cool!

The Kleptocracy of Rodentia by JemSmith 2017-08-01T16:45:06Z

A nice-looking game for sure, but there really just wasn't any challenge involved. It's way too easy for the AI to just get lost in a room and get stuck in there indefinitely, leaving me to roam around as I please. Additionally, I've found that sometimes, despite an object glittering, and me pressing space as much as I want in its vicinity, I just couldn't pick it up at all.

Power Dronomics by BrazMogu 2017-08-01T17:56:38Z

The game could have been improved a lot if the movement speed hadn't been so damn slow. It makes it much more of a chore to play than it has to be. I also found that the green projectiles/enemies at some point just all stopped dead in their tracks and wouldn't continue. I'm guessing that's not intended.

QRTTNBPBYTROAYALID! by Pip Turner 2017-08-01T18:13:56Z

Nice music for once! A rarity in ludum dare entries. Good job on that. The graphics are nicely rendered too and add up to a chill mood. The level generation is unfortunately flawed, as I found myself without any batteries to pick up, or with a ledge that I couldn't jump, thus forcing a game over.

Cheetah Power by shabap 2017-08-01T15:04:25Z

The downloads are missing a data folder, so I can't actually play the game!

Lithium by bveeramani 2017-08-01T17:04:50Z

Nicely minimalist aesthetics. Combined with the fitting music it makes for a very relaxing game. Unfortunately it is also rather glitchy. On multiple stages I was able to walk outside the levels and cheese the game that way, or could simply phase through doors without having to collect any keys at all. Whoops!

Light's out by Kjtherocker 2017-08-01T16:50:19Z

The linked download page will only download the exe without the data folder. Without that folder, Unity won't start. Whoops!

Light's out by Kjtherocker 2017-08-01T16:54:22Z

I'm not sure I get how the Egyptian hieroglyphics relate to you getting power back for your shoot tank thingy. That aside, there's some glaringly easy to fix issues, mainly related to how the walls intersect and the floor doesn't properly line up on the east side. With some more variety thrown in and some satisfying effects when you land a hit, this game could have been improved significantly.

Lavender by onlyslightly 2017-08-01T16:48:21Z

The only good part about this is that if you click outside the window and back in, it just turns to a black screen immediately, so that I know I can close it and forget about this pretentious piece of trash.

THE LIGHT TRAPPER by TRIGONOMETRIC GAMES 2017-08-01T19:34:43Z

If you had focused on a single mechanic, say the teleport stones, and then just made a good amount of puzzle levels around that, forcing you to manage your power resources, this could have turned out alright.

Shade Runner by ShadeRunner 2017-08-01T19:03:04Z

The movement is a bit of a hassle. Sometimes I seem to run fast, other times really slow, with no discernible reason as to what's causing the slowdown. I'm assuming it's something based on "realistic" movement? The mechanic of the body switching wasn't really clear to me, so it took me a couple of tries until I actually understood the mechanic. After that, it became a bit of a problem, that the energy doesn't recharge automatically, and there aren't any pickups around, so once you run out, you're basically screwed. Would make for a nice little puzzle game otherwise.

Breakthrough by Prithvi Makes Games 2017-08-01T14:53:19Z

The concept could make for a fun game, but the screen is so incredibly busy whenever anything happens that it's impossible for me to tell what is even going on. The pixel effects and massive amounts of particles really don't help in that. I tried to play a few rounds, but since I couldn't really see what I was doing, it just felt like chance whether I was doing well or not.

Mechanic Monkey Madness by CMilby 2017-08-01T17:28:32Z

While in space the momentum is a bit too strong. It's all too easy to flail out of control and shoot into space. It's also frustrating that I don't really get an indicator as to where things break and instead am forced to walk around the station constantly, trying to figure out where the meteors might have hit.

Return to Earth by nixim 2017-08-01T18:29:50Z

It seems all too easy to be forced to a loss by the RNG. Other than that, there isn't really much in terms of skill to the game, as the screen isn't large enough for you to really be able to see something and plan in advance whether you want to waste energy moving towards it or not.

FLARE by whalecakes 2017-08-01T16:18:42Z

Since there's no animation or transition whatsoever between states, it's really hard to figure out what is even going on. The game also seems extremely trivial to beat. Despite my inability to see what was happening, I was able to beat the game within a few seconds.

LD45 — Start with nothing

Soundmarine by Dustyroom 2019-10-08T18:21:08Z

Very nice and relaxing game, well within the scope of the jam. Good job!

Some issues, though: - It seems possible to start without a visible submarine. No idea why or how, but it happened. - Due to the lack of shading, reference plane, and shadows, it's rather hard to understand where things are in relation to you. - Some of the purple... thingamajiggers can only be reached by going off-screen.

Washed Ashore by nek0las 2019-10-08T20:00:18Z

The game looks pretty nice, but I gave up after a while because it just takes so long for anything to happen. I also don't understand why you can't get more fish by yourself. It seems that if you don't pick fisherman as the first job, you soft-lock the game completely.

ZeroCraft by jwgk 2019-10-08T19:09:45Z

Style is nice, but I couldn't figure out how to actually get any apples (?) or build more robots. I can get the one robot to gather wood and stone, but that's about it?

Untitled Sandbox Game Where You Throw Sticks by niborious 2019-10-08T21:04:23Z

Unfortunately the game doesn't run for me, just shows a black screen and an FPS counter.

Untitled Sandbox Game Where You Throw Sticks by niborious 2019-10-11T08:29:45Z

@niborious Clicking or doing anything doesn't seem to change. Running Vivaldi 2.8.1664.40 (like Chrome/77.0.3865.93) on Windows 7.

My name is Nothing by sheepsalamanderfox 2019-10-08T17:53:12Z

Nice style, very relaxing atmosphere, which was surprisingly nice. I couldn't actually pick up anything at all, though, no matter how much I clicked. The rain also starts and ends too abruptly, otherwise it would make for a very chill game.

Outsider by Shinmera 2019-10-07T21:19:45Z

Hi, if you have any problems with the game not launching or otherwise crashing, please let me know and paste the `trial.log` file to a pastebin.

Thanks for giving the game a shot!

Outsider by Shinmera 2019-10-09T09:17:54Z

@cpokered @nachtwitch @saltfactory-studio @brokenmirrormedia Sorry about the glitches. Can one of you send me a screenshot or video of it? I haven't been able to reproduce it myself.

@narudgi No idea how that can happen at the moment, very sorry it doesn't work. If I can figure something out I'll let you know!

@bredera @saltfactory-studio @civmaniac @catiliangames I'm very sad we didn't have time to fit in sound, too. Hopefully next time, though! Thanks for the feedback!

Outsider by Shinmera 2019-10-12T15:49:49Z

@msamyel @roastedpotatoe It'll only let you take down guards if you're strictly behind them and rather close. Unfortunately it's a bit too strict right now, making it pretty frustrating to find the right place to stand.

@msamyel It's supposed to return you to the credits after the third level but there's a bug that skips it. Sorry about that! And yeah, I would have liked to have longer and more intricate levels, but what's there was thrown together in the last few hours of the jam. It's the best I could do with the time, I'm afraid. Thanks for the critique!

@cipery Yeah, I'll have to fix up my sound engine in time for the next jam for sure :)

@le-don It seems that my engine glitches out on AMD graphics cards. I don't have a card of my own, so I don't know how to debug it right now, I'm sorry to say.

Get off the Hook by RAC-Games 2019-10-08T21:40:29Z

The movement feels pretty weird. There are noticeable "steps" in the jump arc, and the ledge grabbing seemed very inconsistent.

Help yourself by Narudgi 2019-10-08T21:17:06Z

The game looks very pretty and the music makes for a calming mood, but unfortunately the platforming physics are quite enraging.

Ex Nihilo by Caffeinated Psychics 2019-10-08T19:22:07Z

Nice music, pretty relaxing, though the game quickly becomes tedious, as the landscape is very same-y and you get lost wandering around the same place.

Spirit of the Herd by Prakkus 2019-10-08T20:17:17Z

It would have been a lot more interesting if you could have interfered with things more directly, giving certain animals temporary boons to save them, etc. As it is I just have to wait and watch the animals spin endlessly around bushes, which isn't very engaging.

Pie Witch by jandourek 2019-10-08T20:09:16Z

Pretty good! I was especially surprised at how many different possible combinations of pie you could make!

Slimy by korvyashka 2019-10-08T20:42:39Z

It's pretty easy to soft-lock yourself by timing things slightly wrong. The beginning of the game was also rather confusing until I figured out that dropping onto the guards... possesses... them? Anyway, an interesting idea, but it definitely needs some more testing and polish.

Jelly Tale by LeFraisier 2019-10-08T17:22:45Z

I got stuck at one point and couldn't jump over the obstacle. Generally the text moved way too fast so I could barely read it. The style is nice, though, and it looks like a good beginning of a game project.

The Carpenter by Valentin4311 2019-10-08T20:47:20Z

Pretty fun, simple game. Seems well fitted into the jam and pretty complete. Good job!

Special Topics: Art with Professor Nothi Ng by Blarfnip 2019-10-08T17:12:32Z

Would have been very nice to have some interactions with Nothi, like when trying to paint on him, or outside the canvas. Also good would have been some sample images or something like that to give inspiration.

Untitled LD45 Entry by Kramdar 2019-10-08T18:30:48Z

The screenshots looked very intriguing, but I couldn't even make it past the first (?) level. It just kept looping between these appearing walls, with no indication as to where to go, what to do, or how to progress. The eye in the center opens if I face slightly downwards, but doesn't seem to help, otherwise. I simply couldn't find anything to do, no matter how far, or which direction I walked.

upgrade by yellow 2019-10-08T20:22:39Z

It seems that in this game, much like in real life, you can only die.

Peak Velocity by HarveyU 2019-10-08T20:35:01Z

Nice to see an entry with actually rigged animation. The platform placement was really glitchy though, it seemed to give me the wrong type of platform sometimes, and selecting it in the first place was tricky.

Jewel Hunter by exigo 2019-10-08T21:31:32Z

Very reminiscent of commodore and DOS-era games. Unfortunately I could not seem to move in any direction except to the right and jump up, so it was pretty hard to get anywhere.

Limbo by Jannick Larsen 2019-10-08T17:42:36Z

Pretty good for the time given! I'm not into spoopy horror games and all, but it was fun enough for a short while! Could have done with a bit more setup at the beginning to explain where you are and why things are happening.

Legends of Hobo by Cipery 2019-10-08T19:29:17Z

I couldn't get the game to run? It just crashes on start.

Legends of Hobo by Cipery 2019-10-12T15:55:36Z

@cipery The WebGL version works, thanks!

There's some weird seams between the tiles when walking around sometimes, and your health can drop to -1 without dying. It's also pretty hard to actually hit the ghosts without taking massive damage yourself.

Otherwise I like the idea of building a house out of the cash earned from adventuring! If you want to develop this further, could be cool if the enemies drop ingredients that need to be sold or repurposed first, instead of directly dropping gold.

Ex Nihilo by Alexascher 2019-10-08T21:01:53Z

Very nice and relaxing game. Unique concept and stylish execution bundle it all into a solid package. Well done!

The Last Word by stasm 2019-10-08T19:33:46Z

Pretty good, though the game is obviously very much aimed at QWERTY keyboards. Doesn't work so well for other layouts. I really liked the twist of being able to combine abilities.

Consume by TobySmith 2019-10-08T18:12:45Z

I could walk underneath some tables, but not others, without clear indication as to why. That confused me a lot. The people also seem to be able to pass underneath the tables like I can. Cool little game, though chasing around the levels zoomed as much as this gets kind of tedious after a while.

GettingHome by Mowgli 2019-10-08T18:54:51Z

Would have been good to have a count down on the time, as well as a movement animation. Otherwise, very reminiscent of old cell-phone games, which is a neat feel.

High Steaks by FriedYeti 2019-10-08T18:48:54Z

Surprisingly complete game for your first entry. Keep at it!

Bring All Pineapples by GGenius 2019-10-08T17:28:09Z

The controls are extremely slippery, and I got lost way too easily. It would be very helpful to have some kind of indicator for your cave, so you can find your way back. If you can figure out how to animate the models, that would also make the game look a huge lot better. Keep at it!

Fit the Sticky by Leonard Graf 2019-10-08T18:42:20Z

V0iD by senar93 2019-10-08T19:53:13Z

Really enjoyed the look and feel on this one, though the jump is way too strong -- I often lost track of where I was during the jump, since the shadow goes out of view.

A Dream Of Life by LukeDJ 2019-10-08T20:28:47Z

The basketball is extremely glitchy, you can even use it to soar through the sky. My biggest complaints are that it's very hard to actually pick it up, and the motion blur makes me nauseous. Otherwise, nice mood and visuals.

Strawberry Jam: Isle of Asmodeus by Tori Domi 2019-10-08T19:17:38Z

Good job to the artist, really nice pixel art!

Unfortunately, I couldn't really figure out how the card game worked, a slow introduction to that would have been very appreciated.

Lost Path by Neloly 2019-10-08T17:18:54Z

Very floaty controls, which could be excused, but most of all I just felt confused while playing it. I'm not sure what I was supposed to be getting out of the bizarre imagery.

GTFO by Asto 2019-10-08T18:38:54Z

It would have helped if I could have seen at least /something/ in the very beginning. Stumbling around in complete darkness, without any feedback at all on where you're going or supposed to be, isn't great. Once I got the light, things opened up though, and the game was nicely atmospheric.

Cactorio! by AploveStudio 2019-10-08T21:09:34Z

Pretty complete package for a jam game. Wish there were different things to pick up and combine though.

My mates went to bed before we could decide on a name! by msamyel 2019-10-08T18:02:43Z

Really should have used nearest-neighbour scaling on the textures, the pixel art becomes really blurred. The minigames are fairly unforgiving, requiring me to try them many times. Especially the convincing your uncle one is just weird and unintuitive.

An adventure about getting your body back could be interesting, though I'm not sure the minigames approach works too well for that.

CodeName:Jesus by Unreal4reality 2019-10-08T18:33:43Z

Well, the title is pretty good.

Unfortunately, I couldn't really figure out how to play the game though.
