Unfortunately the game doesn't run for me, just shows a black screen and an FPS counter.

johnnysix 2019-10-09 20:37

This is very impressive, even more so that it's JS! Holy moly. The controls felt familiar and the tree smashing was fun.

With a bit of finess, this'd make a fun mobile / multi-player game.

Whenever I LMB clicked it kept selecting the text - if you do a post-dare version, I'd maybe do it within the canvas and not as a separate HTML element ( same for the scrollbar on the inventory to the left )

Add some pictures to your post and your game dude, this should get way more views!

niborious 2019-10-10 06:26

@shinmera Do you think you could tell me what browser and OS you are running on? also its possible that you just have to click it

niborious 2019-10-10 06:28

@johnnysix Wow thanks a lot! I've been continuing working on the game because I wasn't really satisfied with where it was gameply-wise, so I've been kind of ignoring its current LD submission state. Ah, that text issue was an oversight, it doesn't happen on my browser for some reason.

webox 2019-10-11 02:11

Well this is a weird one haha, I liekd the procedural part. Idk why the people I brought into my world wer such dicks!! Also idk if a bug or a feature but I turned into a cactus. It feels a bit confusing, but it's an amazing job for a game jam! Great entry!

niborious 2019-10-11 02:17

@webox Wait you turned into a cactus? xD

guoboism 2019-10-11 02:36

Awesome game! It is fun to run among the hills. Really nice jam game! I think the respawn part (where you need click to make your own character) really fits the theme.

plazmaz 2019-10-11 02:59

Getting an error on the page and a black screen: ``` Guy.js:198 Uncaught ReferenceError: HitBox is not defined at Player.hitboxCollide (Guy.js:198) at Player.update (Guy.js:45) at main.js:76 at Array.forEach () at animate (main.js:75) ```

diaonic 2019-10-11 04:40

Nice submission, game felt pretty good

ohsqueezy 2019-10-11 07:18

personally I'm impressed by the fog like I have no idea if that's easy to do but to me it seems impressive the way I played this was go straight jumping constantly and eventually the days started cycling and I found the rainbow crystals which I was very glad to have found anyway I think it's heavy that this epic world of biomes turns out to be about killing people in cold blood and stealing their money

shinmera 2019-10-11 08:29

@niborious Clicking or doing anything doesn't seem to change. Running Vivaldi 2.8.1664.40 (like Chrome/77.0.3865.93) on Windows 7.

icxon 2019-10-11 09:11

Impressive work! And punching is op

I love procedural generation! I could go on playing this game forever :D loved the swimming animation and sound. The only thing that I would change is the see-through terrain, even if I understand it, but sometimes it makes the environment a bit confusing.

xarras 2019-10-11 09:57

Fun and fast gameplay, I love how moving around is simple, direct, and your character moves a fast pace. Was great seeing different biomes. Incredible again to see what you've done with so little time :) And good to see you are still using js for LD

mrerdalural 2019-10-11 10:25

This is really fun! Most proc gen jam games feel empty and boring but your game is an exception. I would love to read a post of your going into details on how you handled the world generation. My guess is perlin noise height map and some temperature map for the biomes. For me it's always an interesting topic to discuss.

Thank you for the game. I liked it a lot!

selkkie 2019-10-11 10:40

This was hectic! Very impressive. I enjoyed the animation of the characters and the buildup from nothing. I also sorta wish the water was clearer, for a large portion of the game I assumed I would fall into nothingness if I went into it. Nonetheless, it was a neat procedurally generated game, nice work!

ninnec 2019-10-11 10:43

As others said this is very impressive! I really like the art work and the sounds.

weeping-rupee 2019-10-12 01:35

Thanks for hanging on stream-- here's the VOD of your game in case you're interested:

guckstift 2019-10-13 21:46

Hey, could you please share the source code? I'm always interested in that kind of stuff, especially since I also made a voxel engine once in Javascript :3

niborious 2019-10-15 06:10

@guckstift Ah, sorry. Source code has been added to the itch page. It is the pre-post-compo version and it is very messy and some of the files are not used lol

bdelehoy 2019-10-16 05:09

This game is adorable!!! Your JS never disappoints :D The animations are quirky and expressive and the variation in biomes is super cool. I could definitely see some vague Cube World influences.

For others that can't run the game and see just a black screen, try switching browsers. I couldn't run it on Chrome, but Firefox did the trick.

thomas-bringer 2019-10-16 10:03

Nice game! Very "minecrafty" haha :) I like how you used the them, cool idea. Also, is the level generated procedurally? If so, that's super cool :)

zuf 2019-10-16 10:19

I played this on Chrome. Very impressive. It seemed to run quite smoothly compared to the other 3D web games I played. I liked the smooth controls. Building the character randomly on respawn was a nice touch.

There wasn't much to do, but a post-compo version with more content would be great. This is an entry I'd want to tinker with.

chuchuw 2019-10-16 15:32

i'm a non-qwerty user, but using space + mouse + arrows was pretty complicated.

the character is cool, the universe is simple, no weird textures.

the movements are very dynamic, so it's not boring to move.

great minecraft-like

if you keep developing it, i hope you will choose totally different paths so it's not a clone :)

niborious 2019-10-16 15:46

@game-mon Thanks! yes it is procedural :)

niborious 2019-10-16 15:46

@bdelehoy Thanks Brandon!

niborious 2019-10-16 15:47

@zuf wow thank you! yeah I hope to do a lot with a post-compo version

fabula-rasa 2019-10-16 16:15

What a fun game! Aesthetics reminded me of Minecraft (never played Minecraft to be honest, but it is everywhere, so it's hard not to know how it looks like ;)). All the animations are great and even the blocky clunky graphics have their undeniable charm!

If somebody is experiencing "seeing nothing but black screen and fps counters" troubles (as @shinmera reported), I believe I figured it out. Ablockers, or rather script blockers, may be the cause. Probably not all of them but certainly the one I am using (uBlock Origin). After I disabled my uBlock, the game run with no troubles.

niborious 2019-10-16 19:31

@fabula-rasa thank you! ad blockers really? thats interesting I've never seen that issue before

fabula-rasa 2019-10-16 21:05

@niborious Yeah, uBlock specifically by default blocks any 3-rd party scripts/frames etc. The game runs with no trouble on my virgin Firefox and it runs with no trouble on Chrome too, after I disabled uBlock.

I played web versions of other jam games with no trouble. So I am speculating (it is pure speculation, mind you) that there might be something about this Three.js you are using here that uBlock (and presumably other script blockers) just hates.

itsdanidre 2019-10-24 03:40

The endless proceedural generation is mind boggling! :astonished:

The FPS was great, so was graphics, collision was smooth, and sticks chasing the player because I run too quickly was hilarious. I'm amazed all this 3D stuff can be done with Javascript though :open_mouth:

niborious 2019-10-24 03:52

@itsdanidre haha thank you so much!

autumn-schutt 2019-10-24 15:25

This was so fun!!! I loved jumping around and smashing things! Such good movement feel!

gullyngames 2019-10-25 14:24

Great game! I can't believe this was made in Javascript. I downloaded the source code :) I love the varieties of biomes / resources. I also like the infinite terrain with perlin noise. Good job!
