Pretty fun game, I'm failing to see the theme integration. Maybe it was a project prior to the jam? Lots of polished features.
Great job as always Quill, the body part collection was fantastic, I particularly liked the leg back kick and the dash towards the end. Its always fun watching your development process to and its been an inspiration in my development work. Keep on keeping on my friend, you deserve some good chocolate and whiskey after this one.
Yeah this looks good, you made alot of art assets for this game and they all look really good. The character rigging is great too. I experienced a weird camera bug when taking over camps, it would zoom in and get jittery and the AI is kinda strange. I went to the first big camp and had the boss and minion chasing me around, while my guys chased them. Only way I could get them to fight was to get the boss stuck on my guys and even then only one of my guys would attack. Either way you did a fantastic job, I really like the feel of the game.
Very well done, I tried figuring out on my own first and struggle abit. After going back and reading the directions it made alot of sense. This would be a great mobile game, very impressed!
Very nice job, I love the innovation. I hope you continue this project. I tested with a keyboard and gamepad. Controller feels really good, but theres no button to zoom out. Not a fan of W for jumping, I'd rather see space.
The objects stuck in the snow is a "feature", you gotta get the shovel to get them out. stick, rock, rock on the work bench. Just for my own sanity, were you using a gamepad or keyboard?
GAH JUST SAW I DIDN'T UPDATE THE PC CONTROLS. PICKUP IS Q. Also updated the instructions
Yeah all the music was generated procedural from Abuntantly Music. Some of it is better than others. I put 5 tracks in and they're randomly played. Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for the feedback, I did encounter the tree z axis thing, but it wasn't game breaking and I kind of liked how you would walk infront of some and behind others. All trees can be taken down to stumps, stumps can be removed with a pickaxe.
For any future readers here is the crafting recipes:
Stick, stick, stone = axe Stick, stone, stone = shovel Stick, stone, stick = pickaxe
Again appreciate you giving feedback and trying it out š
@bocodillo I'm pushing an update to address the difficulty level. If I had more time I would of played it more and worked on balancing. I think my game suffers from developer knowledge, the fire is burning too quickly for players not experienced with it. Almost roguelikeish. Where as I've built it and played it and know the optimal path.
So my update will reduce the fire burnout rate and increase the tool charge count. I appreciate the feedback, carrying one item was a design decision as I didn't want to get bogged down with building an inventory system and I think it presents difficult decisions to the player.
Cheers
@josh-galecki Just uploaded a new version, I pushed up an update about an hour ago adjusting the difficulty and somehow selected server in my build settings. Should be fine now, use the same itch.io link. Cheers and thanks for reporting it.
@tmullet Thanks for the kind words. If I had more time I would of dove into more of a story driven feel, with more crafting. My initial thought was, how can I capture that feeling of mario bros when you're nearly out of time, that tense moment when the audio changes and you know you need to "go". I wanted to use a winter theme, and I wanted to not code an inventory system. Push difficult choices at the player whenever possible.
Yeah I noticed the tool spamming being an issue as well, its not so bad when using a game pad which is what I did most of my testing on. Its definitely a problem with the keyboard. Appreciate you trying it out and giving me some feedback. @kekkodude
Yeah if I learned anything this jam, I think I needed simpler control scheme. Thanks for the feedback
@the-osk @igoreshka @artyom-volkov
Thanks for the feedback, I'm going to keep iterating on it and seeing what I end up with.
@corrade @brallex Thanks for the feedback, was my first Compo entry. I wanted a proper tutorial and inventory system, but time didn't allow for it.
@captaindreamcast Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm surprised trees weren't' re-spawning. Then again its a jam game :)
@nisovin were you aware of being able to double jump? I know the controls and crafting now clunky, being a compo entry I had no time for a proper inventory or tutorial. Thanks for trying it.
Nice entry, mood, sounds, and gameplay had a good feel. After the second campfire I was just tired of walking so slow. I loved the scarf the player, the animation was a nice addition to the weather and environment.
Nice submission, game felt pretty good
This sums up my experience with the boss. He poked me, then machine gunned me down.
Nice submission, I don't know if it was just the web player, but I kept seeing these weird lines show up across the middle of the screen, and the audio started playing really slow towards the end, not sure if that's intentional or not.
Eitherway, I like the art and the gameplay feels solid. Great job! Annotation 2019-10-07 005342.png
Very cool game, I enjoyed the graphics and story telling aspects.
This is probably the most interesting LD45 game I've played. I love the action system and the platforming feels really really good. Great job with this, I didn't play around with the level editor, but it looks polished.
That was cute, I made it to the third map before moving on. The cannon towers not firing directly at the enemies at first was frustrating, but that was probably due to lack of knowledge. I was like... why are my towers missing their shots ?!.
Props for making so many levels too, nice work!
Nice job with this, I love the aesthetics, as Bocodillo pointed out gives the game a really bleak outlook and the single string instrument sounds fit perfectly.
Great job with this, clever and fit the theme very well. The boss fight was misleading, I was flying for like 10 minutes before I realized I should be shooting.
Wow I really enjoyed that, the graphics are fantastic. I found the audio a little repetitive and I almost fell through the floor on level 2. That sword weapon on level 3 was really clever. Very impressed, you should continue on with this and make it into a mobile game. Cheers
Very impressed, had alot of fun with this. The console was well done and I liked seeing the jumbled modules that I can find and unlock. My only critique, make the jumping easier or have shortcuts in the console such as E for exit, m.l for lights. Lots of restarting on those early jumping platforms when it needs to be pixel perfect.
The flashlight and enabling the camera were brilliant additions btw and well implemented. Cheers
I really enjoyed the intro, giving you max stars for mood. Shame you couldn't of finished it. You had this captivating feel, inside the truck cracked me up :D
The controls, movement, combat all felt really really good. You did a great job with this. Might I suggest using a camera slightly more zoomed in and eliminate some of the black space. Might give the game a different feel.
Also noticed a bug with the four square fall through tiles, if you stand directly in the center, nothing falls.
Hilarious, loved it. Great job
Nice submission, just a few quality control things I saw. Rename your exe so its not LD45. A sound slider to lower the volume would be awesome. I love the idea and the sound effects are hilarious. Nice work!
I love the art and mood to this game, you did a great job with this. Some simple audio and SFX would really do this game justice. Very impressed, good work!
Ever since I played doodle jump, I've loved hand drawn art like this. You did a fantastic job. I got my sword and just slayed the bandit leader cheers
Great job, I love the "Downwell" graphic asthetics, the game would hugely benefit from some basic audio and sound effects. Well done!, nice submission.
I had trouble figuring out the controls. What was working for me was Q to move left, W to move right, and like m to shoot / jump. Once I figured that out it was playable. The jump and shooting on the same key made it very difficult to time shots and make platforms. Nice job overall, its tough making a game in 48 hours.
I enjoyed the game overall, the jump button is incredibly frustrating though. You don't know when you can jump again and I found myself sitting at the edge of platforms waiting. Graphics are nice and the idea is good. Well done
How do you add stuff to the boat?
Fun little game, I love the robot animation and tank style movement, you even got the rocking back and forth when slowing / stopping. Great job
I love this, I think you could build this into a business app. Collaborative white boarding, add some prefabricated shapes. Well done!
I ran into the physics issue on several levels. I'd recommend using raycasts instead of physics for platform movement, would solve alot of these little quirky platform errors. I got to the final level, but I'm stuck. Pretty nice submission, well done :) Annotation 2019-10-06 193530.png
Art looks great, I loved the transition from top down to platformer. The difficulty ramped up pretty hard after getting the sword and I'm not in love with the controls, I'd like to see space as a jump button, it played pretty well on gamepad, but I couldn't find the attack button. Also don't forget to add the source so you get a grade ( compo requirement). Great work!
Nice submission, reminds of the old Adventures Of LoLo game. Well done!
Understanding the controls was alittle frusting, but I think removing the 5 second game over scene before you can start a new game would be helpful. I probably did 10 restarts before I started getting it, and having to wade through that each time was painful.
Gameplay was interesting and captivating once I understood what I was doing. Nice work for 48 hours.
Very cool, I love watching the objects self propagate and expand out. Kinda fun to click a bunch of random things and just watch what happens. Nice job!
I was going to ask if being up here was a bug or a secret, then I got alittle further and saw your message. Either way really nice job. I really liked the skeletons and the naked guy animation. The knight felt alittle too shovel knightish for me. Either way you did a fantastic job for 48 hours. stuckorbug.png
Nice job, seems like a good base. I built the raft, wasn't sure what to do after that though.
I couldn't figure out how to harvest stone, I had over 50 wood though and killed some zombies. Cool idea, I loved the zombie death animation and their AI was on point.
Very impressive submission, loved the art and the gameplay was fun. Checkpoints would of been great for the last non ludum dare level. Cheers
Nice work, you really killed it with the mood and audio... I was scared to go outside, then night 4 happened and I had to see what was pounding on my base...I won't sleep well tonight.
Very cool, I love the mysterious narrative happening. You should do that with a creepy portal type voice, would add alot to the mood and feel. Very impressed, I loved the rocket and flying around to different planets.
Love the art, I made it to the office area before giving up. I liked how your escape had you move through different prison roles was very creative.
I actually really enjoyed it. I'd be lying if I told you I didn't try to push on the stones and the graves and was really hoping for a staircase. I couldn't figure out what the green grate looking things are for. Also don't underestimate the value of music, even some procedural generate music such as Abundantly Music is super easy to implement and adds alot to the game play. Overall very nice submission.
Gave it shot, got up to 100 peeps with a claimed orb. The cmd interface is a cool idea, but you need to clear the prompt after each command is entered. I'd also recommend looking into the Command Pattern if your not familiar with it.You could easily implement the ability to use the up and down arrows to cycle through previously used command which would add alot to usability. Good work getting a submission in for the compo, its something to really be proud of. This was my first compo, but I've done many jams before. Cheers
Interesting idea, I had trouble understanding what to do at first.
Excellent job, I got stuck after the first large gap. However, I really enjoyed the game play. Very innovative, controls felt good, animations and sounds were on point.
Nice work, the sounds got kinda repetitive. Overall nice submission, procedural generation was good and I liked the ghost and player graphics. Good job!
Great art, the gameplay feels abit too random. I made it to day 4 with .28 and only saw one person that wouldn't give me money. So I starved. Cool Idea overall and I really like the implementation, there just needs to be more variation on the people coming and going. Maybe faster movement speed, with more than one vending machine? and the vending machines run out of food or have different food values based on cost. Lot of different directions you could with this. Nice job!
Also ran into the space resetting when I assumed it was jump. I'd also recommend not using physics for your jump mechanic and use raycasting to detect when you're on a slope or the ground. Lots of tutorials out there about it and it dramatically improves your platforming ability. I love the theme you have going, you should add some music though to improve the mood.
The game didn't really do it for me. However... the audio did. The cat noises are hilarious, the tempo picking up was genius and seeing cats just crash into each other was great. You need to remake this with ragdoll physics. Great job :)
Keith you killed it, I love the art, music, the mood. While it doesn't feel like it has a destination, sometimes journey's are better left that way. Really nice work
My super ants are taking over the world... one waypoint at a time. Great job, had some fun with this one. ants.png
Hands down the best LD47 game I've played yet. Loved it, I got to level 7. Great job!
Neat little game, I like the limited color palette. My only critique was I couldn't figure out how to start the game. Took me awhile to realize that alt was the primary control.
Nice job overall!
Got it, thanks for the tip!
@schsam i had a lot of fun making this game and during testing the wall walk mechanic was showing every level had multiple paths to the goal. The first real level I counted 5 different ways of reaching the goal. Thanks for playing and the feedback, Iām always learning from these events!
Cute game, the concept fits the theme very well. There are some obvious edge case problems such as track breaking right in front of the train without any reaction time.
Nice job overall!
Pretty cool game, different take on a pac man like game. The speed boost and jump abilities are fun. However, on level 2 you can definitely get stuck if you didn't buy it. Maybe just have it as a dropped item? Great job!
Very cool game, nice job! Is there more than one solution for each level?
I love it, takes me back to my childhood when I would spend hours on Adventures of LoLo for the NES. Fantastic job!
Pretty cool game, I've always loved the hand drawn look of graphics. As others mentioned the hit boxes and AI speed was a bit too much. The game also seem to lag out with the html5 version which made making those timed decisions pretty difficult. Great job overall though, very polished.
I agree with the floaty comment, otherwise it felt pretty good, I love the Title screen, felt awesome falling off and edge and flying down from the top and the start vs level select was cool.
Music really set the mood, very nice game!
Nice job overall, few suggestions. Remove the collider from the torch, placing one while walking and then having to walk around it was pretty annoying. Diagonal movement would be a nice addition too.
Nice work! Love the art
That death animation is epic, love it. The wall jumping felt a little funny almost like it wasn't detecting being on the ground or against a wall.
Great job!
Art is fantastic, the platformer portion needs some work. But very impressive for such a short window. Great job!
Nice job, controls felt good, game play feels good.
Well done, gameplay feels great, keyboard was alittle wonky, but once I used a gamepad it was awesome.
If you get 3 consecutive losses it gets enabled. Then if you use it, it takes half your credits but gives you the potential for 10x returns on any payline.
@kevin-s Thanks Kevin, appreciate the feedback. It was fun just working on a smaller scope compo project. Typically I go way overboard on features and put together something that's half finished. Thanks for playing! @pkenney Amazing comment, when I started building this I modeled the reels after a real famous slot machine called Larry Lobster. Which has two versions a 85% payout and a 92% (I think). Either way the reels were very tuned. Then I just played around with the gamification features, sound, and tweaked the payouts. It was a fun project, but I also got plenty of sleep and family time during this compo which I enjoyed. Thanks for playing!
damn well done, loved the art. The movement felt alittle fast, but it worked really well, love the umbrella. I ended up over the map with the dream message. Very cool
Nice I appreciated the simplicity of it, it wasn't clear what the bait was for, but I used it anyway :). Nice job!
Nice job, its a like a simple version of a Crimsonland.
Great job with this, really enjoyed it, I got the hat :).
I loved the art and the movement felt great. An audio level slider would of been nice but great job overall, I really enjoyed it.
Nice job overall, an audio menu would of been nice. The AI was also very good. Nice job!
This game is going gold, well done!
Nice job, controls felt little odd to me, but overall it was good once I figured it out. I'd add some directions on the LD page, I was using left side of the keyboard to move and interact, but didn't realize I had to use the arrow keys for the down function.
Nice submission overall, cheers.
