Looks cool, unfortunately I found I just didn't know what I was supposed to be doing.

Looks cool, unfortunately I found I just didn't know what I was supposed to be doing.
use the knife you find to chop wood use the wood to upgrade tool or buy blocks(press f) use new tool to gather new resources
The game feels very unpolished, but the ideas and concept are fairly solid. It could do a much better job of telling you what to do and making you want to do it.
There doesn't seem to be any enemies. The building and gathering worked well though, but I couldn't place the metal blocks.
the enemies do occasionally spawn at night, but because of their strength they kill you in 3 hits so I made only one or 2 spawn
Very cool concept, the monster noises were on point :P
This is really good, almost like a simplistic version of minecraft. I hope you keep making games like this.
thansk for the comments, I know there area few glitches and I will spend some time later to fix them
The game is a very cool concept. The monster noises actually made me jump a bit lol. I would mainly say that the pacing was slow, and the movement of the weapons just wasn't flush
The player movement speed felt kinda slugish, and the mix between top down and side view art was a little weird, but overall an interesting concept.
thanks, I was too tired to think when I made the sptites
I couldn't figure out how to harvest stone, I had over 50 wood though and killed some zombies. Cool idea, I loved the zombie death animation and their AI was on point.
It's rough but I like where your head is at, interesting mechanics, pretty fun!
Movement speed is really low, chopping wood doesn't feel that nice, got bored before crafting a single thing.
Thanks Lord, how could I make the movement a bit more fun as well as chopping?
Some more direction would be nice, to get people out of the dungeon haha. Got my spear crafted and decided to brave the wilds at night, i ended up out of bounds of the map in uncharted lands h where the zom-bros couldnt catch me? they stopped appearing ateast when i crossed the map border to the right. When i re-entered tho, haha, he mut have been wating long and hard for me because he was running fast, like saanic fast haha, smashed into me and drained all my life and crashed out the game haha!
mrGrind theEnd3.png
Up untill then, i enjoyed it, give your sounds and graphics some more love and it should be smooth :dove:
Think the game crashed when I died, otherwise cool :)
Was fun to play for a while! The monstoer noises wer fun for sure! The weapons and tools didn't always connect, especially with stone and enemies. Resources were unfortunately scarce and I keep losing track of where my base was. Dodging attacks from enemies felt satisfying. Fun time
Thanks for the comments
Interesting idea and fits the theme reasonably, but everything is too slow to be dangerous, and blocks are way too expensive for what they do (combat with the enemies directly on an open field is too easy). The player also moves too slow, as it gets quite tedious waiting sometimes.
I'd recommend making the enemies deal less damage but have a lot more of them spawn. Sometimes I'll go a whole in-game night without seeing a single enemy.
I also suggest including a little blurb at the shop about what the items do.
When I died the game froze and the enemy sound effect played on loop, that doesn't seem right.
Great little sandbox game! Lots of mechanics for 48 hours! Well done. :)
Good concept and impressive amount of progression and mechanics for a compo game.
Overall I think there's not enough action going on and the game felt a bit slow, though maybe that was just at first. The attack animation needs some work too, it might be bit too slow.
Nice work overall!
Those enemies are brutal! Maybe make them do less damage, move slower, and spawn more. That being said, I enjoyed this game, wandered around and got my tool upgraded before I got slaughtered at night
That's a nice starting point for a surivial game :)
I did feel it was a little slow to get going primarily due to how big and sparse the map is, but the need for progression kept me playing.
The shop was a bit confusing in the beginning, but once I understood what I had to do it got quite clear. The items however are still a mystery what are they for, what do they do, which should I go to first? I don't know. The game tells me to build a house so I start chopping trees but I need to get 25 wood to get some blocks. So I walk around in a huge map with this very slow character, chop a bunch of trees and then I get... 1 block hahahaha When I place the block and realized it was only one it was funny and frustrating at the same time, I think it required too much wood gathering for the amount of time you have till night, the same of the map and the speed of the character, this could use some adjustments but I understand those are hard to come by in 48 hours.
Note that the game crashed when the enemy killed me not sure if you are aware of that.
Also, what is the main character supposed to be? The reaper?
Great concept, was fun but a little confusing.
Could not figure how to get stone.
This was enjoyable. I liked the way the weapon/tool built up as you added parts to it. I'm not sure if there's an end to the game? I built two layers of wall infront of the dungeon exit and that felt like victory to me
Maybe a run key would be nice? It's quite a large map. And for me, the grid lines are very dark. Maybe you could just do dots in the corners in a lighter colour?
I liked the SFX the bat things make
It is like 2D top down Minecraft. I think player should be able attack faster with the first weapon.
Music was missing but it is not a huge deal.
Nice job!
Very well done, plays smoothly. I didn't really get how I would be able to get stone or metal; so I couldn't really build anything. Didn't survive the first night, but I managed to upgrade to my spear twice; not sure if that did anything.
Good job, could've been fleshed out a bit more but that's to be expected for 48 hours!
Nice, but I want to tell the difference between stone and metal. :)
The sound of those shadow buggers totally creeped me out the first time. Good game, I had fun with it. Though I didn't build much, just got to the scythe asap, then it started being easy.
Yeah the scythe is really strong, but the iron pick is even stronger
Addictive, simple game, enemies are too casual
Hm. Not quite sure what I was doing while playing the game... I understood after a bit that I needed to gather materials to upgrade my weapon so I can get more materials, but I ultimately felt there was no need to build anything. I could kill the monsters quite easily, even with my starter weapon. Also, the pickaxe felt like a huge downgrade because of how slow it swings, making it harder to nail enemies when they come close. Exploring the place didn't seem to yield anything interesting other than resources, and the building system seems to be bugged. I can only place down the Tier 1 blocks, but not Tier 2 or 3 blocks, even after I bought them.
Still, a nice attempt; this might be a fun game with a bit of work. Just needs more enemies and more reasons to use the other mechanics.
@justinooncx thanks for the feed back,.I will find why it is bugged and make the enemies a bit harder to kill
Really great! I enjoyed playing it a lot. The enemies were hard to hit at times even though it seemed I should have hit them. Not much longevity but for a 48 hr jam game I'd say that turned out pretty well.
Didn't quite understand what was the purpose of blocks, cause if you lock yourself at night you cant get out :D I wish map was smaller and resources were closer to each other cause there are just many empty spaces where you have to just walk for quite a long time.
A little confusing but good for a 48 hour game! It's compelling to keep playing.
20191008020830.png Not Bad....And how can I use these blocks useful
I like the intro music. Concept is nice, and it feels good when I cut a tree. Enemies are too strong for me, but they are probably suppose to be like that. What is the character I am controlling? Is it a man in a hood?
@keith-wang yes, the character is a man in a good and thanks
Quite complete for a compo game, good job !
@transkuja , thanks!
Sometimes understanding what to do is a bit hard, but nevertheless great game
Thanks man
A little confusing in the start, but overall a cool entry, congrats!
I wasn't entirely sure what to do orignally, but reading your comments here helped out a lot. Seems like a pretty ambitious project overall, could probably have reduced scope to increase polish, but overall it's not bad!
The blocks was not so useful..good idea, but still need polish,
Took me a while to understand what to do but thankfully didn't feel rushed. Creepy sound effects too! Good job - I hope you develop the game further.
Interesting entry even if I'm not a big fan of survivor game. Keep it up it's a good start !
Tha ks randdir
For some reason it wouldn't let me place the better blocks straight away, first I had to place some wooden ones..? Weird. Anyway, nice work for 48 hours! I'd say it would need an end-game, and increasingly dangerous enemies (as I saw it, they can juuust about break through 2 of the most basic barriers per night, and since you can replace them -through- walls, all you need is about 20 wood/stone to survive indefinitely). Also it really is too easy to fight them out in the open.
@wolfrug thanks for the comment, I will definitely be making this into a more complete and commercial game
It was pretty nice, didn't manage to build? (if we can?), looks like a small Minecraft !
Pretty impressive for a weekend! There is a lot of content in!
@jaypay it very much is like Minecraft, I plan to expand on the concept in the future
@nsadie thank you, your entry looks very good as well
Pretty neat, reminds me of what i found hardest thinking about the theme. Making a game that implies progress from nothing something that feels really good to players i think. Good job on your solo project :)
Hi could you please re rate my game =, the link now works- I will also rate your game, sorry for this very forward sounding message!
interesting subission nice colors
the message was absolutly fine! however, I have already given your game a 10/10, not sure how I can rate it further, if you are asking about critique then I would say that the game is very interesting and the art is very appealing, I don't really have anything negitive to say about your game
(that last comment was posted on the wrong game oops)
I really like the art, and how it is Minecraft-esque. Great content too - and I'm impressed how much you were able to include in it!
thatnks @zoarfy sure thing, I will add some audio feedback and comeback with a commercial game
Cool game but I think its a little bit too hard in the beggining, the night arrives too fast and there aren't enough materials around to build something up quickly enough. Also it seems the weapon upgrade requires you to hit somethin with the point of it? So if a monster has passed the point (like the fast walking ones) then you can not kill them anymore. I like the idea of 2D survival games, sadly not as many of them exist, and I think you could get somewhere with this one but needs some balancing for now.
@noshiz thanks, I will work on balancing the early game, what do you think of the first day being longer than the rest? or how about after the jam ends the player starts with a little bit of resources? the weapon upgreaded to a spear is supposed to deal much greater damage with higher range at the expense of the blade being far away from the player, I do however understand why that makes the game dificult
It's a pretty small and quite neat survival game, I like that you made all mechanics simple, but pretty interesting to play!
@artyom-volkov thanks for the feedback!
Cool concept i was a bit bored at the end of upgrading my weapon so adding something like stamina to run for few seconds, would be nice as a speed up and also it would give something to do besides collecting materials and also it could improve combat by making it more dynamic... estetics are good, audio not so much ( i muted it after 1st night )
@demuss thanks for the feedback, I should probably add those things in when I have the time, thanks for the feedback! Also, love your game
It was a nice short game, a fine idea for something bigger, the graphic was simple but clear. Could use a bit better GUI design but it's ok overall ^^ I met no glitches on my gameplay.
I am sorry, i failed to understand what to do. You could improve that with just some comments, or indications in this page.
I felt a bit clueless at first as to what I had to be doing. Thanks for the comments here I was able to figure it out!
👉 Things I liked about your submission: - Nice concept. feels like a top own mineraft - I liked the sound effects
👉 Things that could be improved: - Early game requires some balancing - I accendentally opened menu like 5 times - No need to build
Other than that, great game! Keep on making games!
Make sure to go rate my submission as well! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/45/ld45-submission
@shubart sure, il add some comments
@dane-tesla thanks, UI design is not really my specialty, bit I will work on it
@croewens thanks, il rework the buttons in the future, but i am currently not able to add or change much due to school, need to figure out what university to submit to by next year lol
It's a nice start to a game. I think the opening hallway is a bit long, and I was having a hard time placing blocks sometimes.
Great game! Minimalistic, but challenging and fun to play. I hope you keep working on it after Ludum Dare. I would love to see more :)
Quite a lot of features. I think the attacking could of used some extra work, as it was hard to tell where the attack actually hits or whether it did.
@aaranos @greendinogames @nisovin definitely going to do more work post ludum dare, but I'm swamped with home work right now
uhm at some point i had 4 stone blocks, but i could not place them in the world. i selected them nothing got placed. i had to go and collect more resources and then make more stone blocks to be able to place them again. just wanted to let you know. i liked the game, only the combat that needed some more work/fine-tuning. other than that gj. :dog: :dog:
Interesting concept for the theme, I thought that it fit quite well. The gameplay was alright, I found the combat to be a little difficult as it felt like there was a large delay in my swings that made it difficult to hit anything. I found the resource gathering to be a bit tedious because of the distance between resources and the slow speed of the player. I would guess that having the resource nodes take a few hits and give the resources incrementally would have made it feel a lot better without changing the player speed or number of available resources because as a player I would have had to spend some time at the resource nodes. I thought that the monsters were quite cool and interesting to deal with, and I loved the effect when they died. When I died (I think, my health was still around half but a monster was touching me) the game froze, the only thing that I could do was open the shop but then I couldn’t close it. Overall I think that this game has a good core concept but could have used more polish to become great. Well done for a 48 hour challenge!
People here already said most of what I wanted to say, so just a few key points: - could use more player speed and/or more resources along the way - more weaker enemies would work better, I think - the blocks didn't seem particularly useful; it'd have been a different story if player could attack over these blocks without destroying them (or maybe they could place some turrets; everyone loves turrets) - I liked the appearance of progressively upgraded gathering tool, especially this scythe thing that could collect metal
The use of theme is adequate, but not particularly creative.
All these things aside, it's a pretty solid entry, though it missed something that would make it stand out.
I liked the consepct it fits well the theme.
@pedro-rosa @alphish @smilewood thanks for the info and complements!
Great project and interesting use of the theme :) The concept is not really innovative but congrats for the time you managed into it ! Maybe you can add arrows keys or ZSQD compatibility on the controls for including all types of keyboard, it was pretty awfull to play because i use an AZERTY keyboard ahah
@corentin-sabiaux sorry, I didn't know other keyboards existed, but be sure that I will be updating the game on itch to include that compatibility
@nachtwitch No problem, thanks for the future update :D AZERTY is a keyboard configuration specific to France, Belgium and a part of Switerland, it's not really used on others countries ahah
Nice entry with a hell of a lot to it for the short dev cycle, awesome job. The UI controls etc were a little in the way though.
I was slightly confused at first, but managed to get the gist quickly. Would've helped to explain the visual difference between metal and stone. Also, I had difficulty finding resources in the beginning, and the minimap was too small and didn't help. When the first night came, I got killed pretty quickly. I tried a couple of times but failed to get past the first night. Regardless, good overall attempt!
I acquired the best item, built myself a little house and lived out my life in peace, or at least until I accidentally broke a wall and the shadow speeders got in.
Very fun game, you really managed to create an immersive atmosphere. I really lost myself in the cycle of gathering materials, building a base and fending off the shadow horde. Very enjoyable gameplay loop, great job on your entry!
Nice funny game, great job for a compo :)
interesting concept, the map could be clearer - I oftenfound myself getting iron instead of stone but trees stood out on the map. I was confused what the player was and what I was fighting - aliens? That being said, witha bit more polish this game looks promising. Keep at it. It's well made considering the time limit
I wasn't quite able to figure out how to get stone or metal, but I sure did my best with the wood I was able to collect. I think this was a super ambitious concept given the time limit, and the fact that it works is fairly impressive. I think the minimap could've been clearer, though, and perhaps some more instructions could've helped folks like me who weren't sure what to do.
On the whole this was a nice entry. Good work!
The third day for a jam-version would have benefit the game I guess. The core gameplay loop is interesting and minecraft-like. Just the balancing feels a bit off and some more polishing would have been great as well. But still its a fun little game which would have potential as the whole.
Not polished in an audiovisual way, but man, how did you make all those mechanics in a jam time? :D top-down minecraft like, really enjoyable ;)
@pablotitan I finished the game 15 minutes before the jam, rushed a bit to polish so almost nothing got polished lol
I like the idea, it's good and I have nothing against simple graphics. And I like your way of craft-build here (not a typical tower defence). But events happen too slowly and there's very large free spaces. Really funny sounds (when the enemy shoots - it clicks the pen?).
This was surprisingly fully featured for a compo entry. There is definitely some work to be done with the polishing side of things, and the balance of enemies vs. difficulty to survive and build feels like it could use some tweaking, but a lot of that just comes with time. I'm really impressed you made this all yourself. Well done!
I found the concept of the game interesting, however i felt it needed more polishing in order to become more entertaining and fun, specially regarding the graphics and the sounds (some music could set up the ambience for the better). Even considering that, the game works pretty well
Also, i could not place the blocks 2 and 3, even being able to place the block 1.
Anyway, nice job!
Enjoyable crafting game, I quite like this type of games so I found myself playing it more than other entries.
A few things I noticed: - Imo footsteps sounds should have a smaller delay between them because they dont seem to match character move speed. - World feels empty, variance in texture and just more trees or bigger rocks would help. - Collisions are a bit off, monsters and a few world objects seem to have way too large hitbox
Please post a web or mac build so more people can play and give feedbacks on your game! :D
Nice starting idea for a survival. I found building a bit strange that I could only build 2 blocks away, and unnecessary, too. Not a big deal, but you could disable buttons for one use after buying the items.
Fun! The game froze on me when I first died but other than that, works exactly as advertised. 10/10 best 2d minecraft clone
I enjoyed the concept but the game seemed pretty... empty to me. The enemies probably don't spawn a lot at first just to make it easy on the player, but I just fought all the enemies head on and didn't have to worry about it much. I did enjoy collecting materials, but the options were a bit scarce. There are multiple enemy types though, so I did appreciate the work that went into them! For a compo game it was enjoyable
It gets scary after dark when the creatures come after you. I think this is impressive how much you were able to do in the 48 hours. I think it would be neat to continue this idea and polish up some of the mechanics. Sometimes the gameplay felt sluggish and there were crashes. Overall, I had fun.
Congratz on submitting in time! FYI, it looks like your image link is broken in your post here. Any chance on making a web build?
The gameplay was pretty fun. The placement of blocks have been a bit easier and hitting opponents was also a bit too hard. Otherwise, great job, felt like an RPG.
Good submission. good work on the sound. a little confusing at first but good once I got the hang of it.
Very good game! Those little enemy buddies scared me when they suddenly poped up near me.
so cool, the movement is bit slow but it's fine, the light system is so good, great job man.
A bit of a slow game, but the graphics are cute and the concept is great. Awesome job!
Really impressive stuff for the compo! Everything sort of just comes together and has a fun and addicting gameplay loop while making you feel like you've started with nothing.
Cool game! Love the idea. I think the execution could be improved/polished a bit: graphics look alright, but not great to me, and a soundtrack could be cool. But for a compo game it's already great! Congrats :D
Interesting game, but I found myself struggling to find resources to upgrade the tools. The resources just felt way too scattered. Great job
Really nice entry! I like the building aspect (one of my weakness) Kept collecting and building but didn't find any endgame. Anyway, nice entry!
Concept is very interesting, I would just add more feedback, more instructions, because sometimes we players are dumb :) but otherwise it's fun to play! Good job
Idea is extremely interesting, but unfortunately I didnt understand how do get out of the base once I built it
