LD45 — Start with nothing

Empty Dungeon by Wevel 2019-10-07T15:59:40Z

Nice take on the Theme and mechanics to go with it! The retro monitor art style is very well done too! I did accidentally assign a few keys wrong - try playing the game with all the directions muddled up  It would have been nice to have a way to reset the game. Maybe have a button or a key available from the start, or registered early on.

Nice job

Zilch by commanderstitch 2019-10-07T15:36:32Z

That main menu! Almost burned my retinas off :knife::eyes:

I think level 8 was hardest for me, with all the cars going both ways and such low life.

The game is crazy and I think that's just how you wanted it! The graphics and sound fit that just fine too!

It took me a while to understand I could damage the tents in the final level, as they don't show any reaction to being hit the first few times. That would be my one suggestion! That and a warning before that menu screen

Nice work!

Little Something by Meta-link 2019-10-09T11:50:06Z

Lovely concept, very innovative, the graphics are very nice. The main character is well crafted.

I'd love some way of seeing what other's have done more obviously. I struggled to find a specific piece of art or collection of things which I went "That's cool". I did think the whole concept was cool though. It's probably just some extra controls like have already been mentioned - zooming out or rotating for example.

New.AI by smilewood 2019-10-07T14:49:26Z

Very nice! I love the little frame you're in and the way you have to go about gaining the skills. I think that was a very smart mechanic and piece of writing! Controls were pretty good - there was the odd time I didn't jump when pressing jump near an edge. I think with a lot of platformers - if they require precision - it can feel nicer to the user if you allow a short amount of time *after* the user has gone past the edge, to still initiate a jump.

Good job

Karl and Timmy by kuro 2019-10-07T00:32:13Z

First things first, love the music track

Gameplay was pretty sweet for such a small game. I like the mechanics you put in there and the graphics worked well. Not 100% sure about the story  but at least Mark got something out of it all

Deserted by Pio 2019-10-10T12:35:24Z

The start of a survival game. I liked that you had rabbits jumping around which gave some life to the island, a crafting system in place, and an end goal (even if that goal was quite easy). The mouse problem @bytinggames mentions is the same for me, it would be great if you could lock the cursor whilst you're not in the inventory instead of it being visible and moving.

I think it would be interesting to see where this game could go, given you've deliberately kept the island quite small (which i think is a good thing). Maybe you could progress from small island to small island trying to get home. With each one presenting a new challenge such as the hostile animal you ran out of time to make.

I think this is quite a difficult genre to build in 3d in a few days so congrats on that!

EEPROM by bentglasstube 2019-10-07T14:59:08Z

I'd love to play this but I think i'd need a pre compiled version for Windows 10. Let me know if you manage to get one of those up and I will give it a bash!

Lands of Kingdom by MouthlessGames 2019-10-09T11:41:39Z

I love the gameplay idea. I loved Settlers 2 and this has a nice vibe like that. I got stuck because I don't know where the Hunter should be? I assumed it would need Plains but that doesn't seem to work:

Screenshot 2019-10-09 at 12.37.17.png

It took me a while to realise I could build extra roads by clicking on an existing building. And I don't know why buildings can't be built next to each other?

It's a really nice little system and game, the music is nice, the sfx are ok (a few too many beeps when the system is getting bigger).

Well done

Seven Dwarves Brawl by pfeyffer 2019-10-06T23:20:17Z

Nice little card game. I like the card drawing and flipping animations

Grow quickly by congusbongus 2019-10-07T00:13:29Z

Love the music and the game. Found the controls a touch precise, but that just made it feel more like it was playing on a retro machine

Bearly Alive by bjeaurn 2019-10-06T23:12:37Z

I found mom! I enjoyed playing your game. It seemed a bit strange to eat the polar bears! I liked the Winter progression

Begging Simulator 2019 by lekiy 2019-10-06T23:04:49Z

Haha, i love the voicesque sfx for the talking  Seems pretty difficult to survice, perhaps that's supposed to mimic reality! Graphics are consistent and I like the little musical theme

Begging Simulator 2019 by lekiy 2019-10-06T23:58:23Z

@lekiy Yea, I know what you mean. I reduced the difficultly on mine, thinking that i've been playing it for 2 days - probably going to be good at it by then! Still a lot of people find it difficult! Ludum Dare is like a full on user testing session!

A Platfomer by ZenriS 2019-10-08T18:54:44Z

Also can't see a dl or play link

@nikita-demidov it looks like that site generates music based on an algorithm. Think it would be a bit of a grey area as to whether it counts as a Content Generator - which would be allowed.

Ultra Quest by 100th_Coin 2019-10-07T10:13:13Z

Loved it. The **intensity** of those boss fights  whoa!

The art style is beautiful and the game played really fluidly. It wasn't especially challenging, I think it feels like the tutorial levels of a game when you're learning how to play. That's not necessarily a bad thing though - I loved the way you incorporate discovery of mechanics. Like the careful placement of the first snowman - so when you hit the target with the rock you also discover that rocks kill snowmen too. Bravo

Loop to the unknown by dray 2019-10-07T00:09:25Z

Wow, i love the style of the cuts and the switch between comic and 3d and back. I found it quite hard. I missed the tips for a lot of the game. Maybe I need to "Learn to **[F]**ocus"

I also jumped on top of the monster and it span around a bit

Mr. Nothing by schwede 2019-10-15T20:07:12Z

Like the concept. Really hits the theme, well done

I had two challenges! The first was, when he's invisible, movement is very difficult. Unlike @odeyalko my movement did not match up to my cursor and because the camera has easing (slowly moves to your position) it gives the sense of a lack of control. Maybe if the camera was fixed on my characters position that would feel nicer - but make the game easier.

The second issue was I fell through the floor when making a jump near the end of the second to last level. I just restarted the level with R and it didn't happen the next time. Probably just a collision detection issue with the speed I was moving. Continuous Collision Detection would help with this.

Background music was nice and ambient and I liked your vocal sound effects. I made it bro!

Amor Fati by starvingindie 2019-10-08T10:34:19Z

Very much on point with the theme and mood. The graphics are really nice and the music and sfx all fit perfectly. Not much to improve here! It's really good, maybe a tad short, but it conveys it's message well in that time. Well done

Bonnie Bones 🧙‍♂️💀 by xUMR 2019-10-07T15:53:11Z

I immediately got the mood of the game with the music. It's all pretty simple but sets a tone in the game which is matched by the choice of graphics.

I found the jumping a bit tricky to time - initially I was trying to jump over all the enemies.

It took me a while to realise I had to input the 'spell' commands whilst simultaneously holding down  but when I did the mechanics started to make sense.

Claimbeer by neowhoru 2019-10-07T10:24:07Z

Nice graphics. I too love pixel art so this is right up my street

I found the 'hitboxes' for transitioning from upper levels to lower to be a little off. It was sending me down holes even when it looked like I was still on the edge of the platform (completely on the edge, by a character's width). That made it a little frustrating some times as I would fall when I didn't want to.

Also there were a couple of platforms on the screen to the right of the flippers I couldn't jump on.

I finished it without finding the bow or the "fast forward ball" - it was a nice little game I enjoyed playing

Nothing Ventured by David Bocek 2019-10-12T12:08:09Z

@heta @xitaro @fabula-rasa @david-bocek I found the game on gamejolt. The url is just missing an id: https://gamejolt.com/games/nothing_ventured/443471

I've confirmed this is the right game as the other games by this gamejolt account match the previous entries by this ldjam user

So to the game, it's playable as a little control demo at the moment. The controls are responsive and it looks like there's a variety of skills which look interesting.

There's obviously quite a bit missing to make it a full game. Only being able to destroy trees (eventually). Not being able to change your skills after you pick them up. And not having any idea of controls (Standard twin stick shooter, space is your 'super' ability).

I noticed one issue you might want to look at, the direction your bullets travel in is currently also using the y coordinate. Meaning, if you aim very close to yourself you hit the ground. Generally in these games it's just the x & z coords that are used. Simple fix is to set the y coordinate on your bullets motion to 0 or to the height it starts at depending on how you're doing motion

Your SFX are really nice :sound:

TinyBeat by Tiberiusuciu 2019-10-06T22:58:14Z

Simple and fun. At the end the text was all squiggly as my eyes were readjusting  Nice work. I thought of it more as a timing game than a musical game.

Adventure of Barrel Man by Arthridas 2019-10-08T19:05:54Z

I like the way you get to upgrade the weapon by making a choice after the first level. I assume there's only the two levels? I found the second level much more difficult as I chose 'Gun' and 'Explosive'. The frog things stay so close it's hard to get them blown up!

Invasion by gwinnell 2019-10-07T13:56:51Z

This is great. Enjoyed the puzzle, although it wasn't too difficult once you got the basics. The art and music were really nice. I did notice a little rendering issue when the camera is rotating around. One of the angles looks perfect then as it rotates the sprites clip their neighbours:

gamejolt.com_games_invasion_443322.png

Doesn't detract from what is a really nice game though! Congrats

Nightwatch by Brallex 2019-10-07T00:17:48Z

I'm not very good at being two people  although I can see how it would be cool with two.

Music is fitting and retro! Good job!

Candy War by azrou 2019-10-10T12:44:56Z

An enjoyable bullet hell style game with a good ramp. The pumpkins were too difficult on a laptop as the touchpad wasn't so easy to aim with! The gameplay is fluid though and the sound effects good. I don't mind the game being hard but that will appeal to a smaller group

God of the Elements by Keppu 2019-10-07T13:35:07Z

Oh, humanity!

humanity.jpg

Great puzzle game. Love everything about it, well done

The Persistent Thief by Darylsteak 2019-10-07T11:09:47Z

I really like this concept. I found that the controls are a bit difficult as they're all over the keyboard and near the movement keys. Maybe you could have mouse wheel (or numbers) change between the two 'weapons' and then they can both launch from the left mouse button. F or E could be a universal 'use' to start hacking, glass cutting etc.

I did get stuck in a bug. The second time I exited the mansion on the right of the screen the screen faded (I think) but then reappeared with me, immobile, at the side. See image: stuck.png

Overall this was a fun game to play!

Ludum Dare 45 by Trypants 2019-10-07T17:21:46Z

Love the art style, when I first launched it none of the movement keys worked. Also, the hit detection when picking up blocks feels off. Maybe you could change the system to automatically pick up any items in the grid square you're in rather than have to be so precise?

SFX are good for the job they're playing  Music was nice too! Overall a pretty good starting point for a game, congrats!

Delta Test Site by Derek Volker 2019-10-10T13:10:37Z

I have to say I didn't have any issue with the jumping per se. It wasn't something that came to mind. I really think this is a well executed game with some nice extra components (the modes).

My only issue was the level design - not visually - but the layout. I think the challenges you were presenting were good, but the levels involved a lot of 'boring' time as well as 'interesting' time. My opinion is that you want to maximise 'interesting' time as much as possible. For example on the first level, you have a deep drop that means if you're at the bottom, it takes a long time for the lift to come and get you. The level could have worked mechanically with just a small drop - enough for you not to be able to walk out. Another instance I felt a bit bored was trying to get on the elevator next to the first 'enemy' you meet. That elevator requires a precisely timed jump to get on it but if you fail the jump you just have to wait for 10 seconds. The interesting jumps are at the top of the level, the jumps which are recovery jumps should be kept easy, i think.

Thankfully the whole game was put together well and my feedback is just a minor comment. Whilst standing around I was enjoying the 80s style music :musical_note: :sunglasses: Well done

The Void by Norris Eldridge 2019-10-07T00:24:20Z

I liked the feel of this game. It felt like the controls were slightly off, but it might just be the movement speed or a slight animation thing. I haven't managed to kill the void boss

Good work on this though. The minimal color pallette looks really nice and I love the music and SFX

King of Nothing by notapixelstudio 2019-10-11T13:26:05Z

Very cool idea! I like the rhythm game element as it forces you to make quick decisions and make mistakes. I think that's a really important aspect. Nice work

Virus Jones by Bernardex 2019-10-15T19:55:46Z

Hi @bernardex i enjoyed playing the game but I wondered if i'm playing the version submitted for the game jam, or the updated version? If I was playing the game jam version then I will rate it but if it was the updated one then I think you're supposed to keep the two versions separate so that the original version can still be rated.

SHOCK by Ossi 2019-10-09T08:18:38Z

Well imagined puzzle game. It could have done with some sound, and I felt you could have made more of the potential puzzle elements by making more of the zappers in the levels optional to disable. So you could try and navigate a difficult route or spend shocks opening up an easier path.

I enjoyed playing the game and the graphics were nice. I like the pixel art especially on the electricity itself :zap:

Slinger by Bungalow 2019-10-07T13:22:58Z

This is cool. Love the little character.

I found the controls a little dificult initially. Maybe you could use the same key for jump and sling? Unless you plan a double jump then this would help a lot I think.

Also, the `K` key didn't work for me in the boss fight  I was using WASD + Space + K as my control scheme but had to use Tab in the boss fight. I thought I was doing something wrong!

The Music and SFX are spot on. Overall, very good!

Gridwords by ixchow 2019-10-07T01:42:42Z

I got very confused at what the rules where. It might be nice to have more of a tutorial/hints on the first few puzzles.

ixchow.github.io_gridwords__3.png

I couldn't get past this

Looks really nice though

*Edit: I've just got the fact you can move more than one at a time :face_palm: *

Truth of Nothing by Ty Victorson 2019-10-12T12:22:35Z

Hi @ty-victorson i too cannot find a windows executable in the zip

nothing-truth-ofn-nothing.png

Truth of Nothing by Ty Victorson 2019-10-16T22:55:17Z

@ty-victorson i'm glad i played it! Nice little experience! I was walking around thinking the trees were really cool but it would have been nice with colour. I slowly understood what was going on (although i wasn't sure what the block after the bridge gave you?) and the "pie chart" pickup made me :open_mouth:. It was a really nice surprise and everything looked so cool.

I really liked the level design too - as in the path you have to take and the way it's laid out infront of you.

I didn't get any audio when i picked up the speaker. Did you just run out of time or is that a bug i've experienced? I should also note, on my second run through i missed the bridge jump and when I hit the water the game crashed to desktop! Thankfully I made the jump the first time through!

It would be nice to have some sort of text (or other UI indication) of what each pickup gives you and the controls you can use.

Congrats on the game overall

From Nothing by arkinrev 2019-10-08T18:50:32Z

Hey I tried to play this on Itch.io but i don't seem to have any controls. Just see the following:

Ping me @kazatan if you think there's a fix or you upload one

J'Accuse! by bobotast 2019-10-07T14:37:49Z

I like these sorts of deduction games  and i love the crazy spaghetti legs

It would have been awesome to have a little background music to add to the tension but otherwise this is a solid little game, nice work!

Scrap Attack by TheseusInABottle 2019-10-09T08:04:01Z

Hey @theseusinabottle, great to see how Scrapy has come on since the first idea phase! Cool mechanic with the different 'scrappers'. I think this is definitely something you could build upon. The controls are quite difficult as A/D can both mean Left or Right depending on which way scrapy is facing. I'm thinking that's just part of the challenge though.

The music loop is great, sometimes short loops get repetetive, but I think you've done really well with this one that it just becomes background ambience. Nice metal SFX created too.

The design of the main character is perfect - as people have said - it's a very cute robot. I think everyone wants scrapy to survive. It's a bit sad when the fuel cell runs out! :robot:

Living Forrest by Majadroid 2019-10-07T19:11:49Z

Good game

Liked the music and the sound effects, especially the chomp

Just A Minute by Skalex 2019-10-08T10:47:06Z

Enjoyed the game and the way you gather more information from each playthrough - that captures the Theme of starting with nothing

I would have loved to be able to skip text - maybe only the second and future times i interact with someone/thing.

Good work

Egg Farm by kuviman 2019-10-06T23:17:01Z

Really nice - very much with the theme. Love the little intro bit

Alone by Becher 2019-10-06T23:40:50Z

Great graphics, i love the style. Simple sound effects and really solid gameplay. I'm not sure if there's an end goal but I can see how the game could expand in future! Nice work

A Fishermans Friendly Island Builder by Lombax 2019-10-07T16:15:55Z

I like how you've expanded on the City Builder genre by forcing you to take an action to even have ground to build your city on. I think that is very in keeping with the Theme.

I liked how you could hook the flotsam with other captured flotsam. That made a nice little mechanic of trying to hook at an angle to capture more than one piece at the time.

It would have been nice if there was more of the floating stuff! I know the game isn't complete yet but it feels like this part of the game could have been sped up a lot if the initial rate of grass and wood was higher.

A good base for a game, I think.

No Body by lizelive 2019-10-06T23:54:23Z

That green on pink at the start  I managed to get some armor, but then I couldn't move properly. This game seems a bit mad  I like the running animation with the fluid lean

Nothing In The Way by JediNeeson 2019-10-09T12:02:41Z

Nice puzzle game. I didn't see a single physics issue and actually I just wish there were more levels with more things!!

Hunt and Gather by Gaz_Ireland 2019-10-07T00:02:55Z

I can see it's not a finished game yet but I like the resource pile models. I think the trees are cool.

Colour Shot by HumphreysMedia 2019-10-10T14:53:00Z

Looks good and has nice simple gameplay. I would also prefer it if you could click anywhere to shoot in a direction - it's quite difficult to do well using a laptop touchpad :computer:

I only managed to score 75 :x:

Star Twit: H. Nothing by ogre 2019-10-07T00:53:04Z

Hah, the title screen did not give away how good a little game this is! I like the progression and the puzzle aspect of it. I assume the controls are somewhat difficult for a reason and I like it. Took 7.5 minutes to complete.

itemless by NachtWitch 2019-10-07T13:02:08Z

This was enjoyable. I liked the way the weapon/tool built up as you added parts to it. I'm not sure if there's an end to the game? I built two layers of wall infront of the dungeon exit and that felt like victory to me

Maybe a run key would be nice? It's quite a large map. And for me, the grid lines are very dark. Maybe you could just do dots in the corners in a lighter colour?

I liked the SFX the bat things make

Witch's Cauldron by Kazatan 2019-10-06T23:22:22Z

@jcmonkey Is the page loading? It's a Unity web player :worried: Thanks for looking.

Witch's Cauldron by Kazatan 2019-10-06T23:56:09Z

@kuviman Everything should be using Unity's delta time to keep a consistent speed. Unless that works differently in their web player

Witch's Cauldron by Kazatan 2019-10-07T01:10:33Z

@johnnysix @cooz @wie @tobias-froihofer I think the problem with the controls is the classic developer problem. As I played it a lot whilst making it I probably 'get' the controls now. I will try and think of some good ways to improve the learning curve in the future  thanks

@rob1221dev @adroitconceptions With a bit more time a few of the progression mechanics would definitely be improved. I only got so far in the time given and I agree that it doesn't feel like a full game yet

Thanks to everyone for playing and leaving feedback :hugging:

Witch's Cauldron by Kazatan 2019-10-07T12:24:07Z

@stefanie-leitch the green potion is just a speed/accelleration boost - should change the music a little too.

@pavel-ivanov I hadn't thought about using that sort of control scheme. Thanks for the feedback.

@darylsteak yea, i agree it needs some sort of tutorial or story to help with that.

Witch's Cauldron by Kazatan 2019-10-08T08:28:19Z

@wevel when I started out I was thinking dragons would be one of the hardest to find and capture, but i didn't have time to flesh out anything inbetween frog and dragon

@djee The method i found was to try and come at them from their side. You can turn quite quickly if you slow down, so release the movement key, aim at their side just over the back and that seems to be the most surefire way of getting them. I think they're too difficult right now, so i would balance it better if I did it again

@jupiter-hadley love your videos, i've found a lot of other cool games to play on here by watching the first part. Thanks for playing

@barrier Thanks for pointing out the plt holes in my story! I haven't actually conveyed the story in the game so for now it will just have to make no sense! Glad you enjoyed it and managed to complete the game :star2:

Witch's Cauldron by Kazatan 2019-10-09T08:29:29Z

@kuro i'll keep you posted! For now, it's back to work and a regular sleep schedule though

@wansou Yea, definitely needs a tutorial/story/more character development. In the end I got the core gameplay into the 48h but didn't have time to address those other parts.

@velvetlobster maybe I should add some fire and ice magic!

Witch's Cauldron by Kazatan 2019-10-16T22:35:33Z

@schwede I look forward to watching the whole of your video tomorrow! I was very happy with myself in this game jam for not trying to keep my code tidy! Normally I spend too much time organising my code and not enough time making the game! From the bit i've watched so far I noticed it runs very slowly for you (the movement is slow) - so I must have made a mistake with using delta time somewhere. @kuviman also had the opposite issue so sorry about that!

@hadik thankyou, i agree - there's plenty of things missing from the game! I hope to get another version of it out at some point. I will make sure there is a tutorial and change the controls a bit (or give options).

It may be your story by Keseril 2019-10-07T00:42:19Z

This is one of my favourite games of the jam so far. Inspirational. Such a good use of timing and games. Well done!

I think the simple art style works for the game although a few sound effects would be nice and add a lot I think.

Thanks for making this.

Nothing On Frontlines by Pavel Ivanov 2019-10-07T16:36:41Z

Really enjoyed playing this. I thought a tweak to the controls might be to be able to select a building using the number keys rather than having to bring up a menu and click to go through each. Or have the scroll wheel scroll through without having to open the menu and a seperate build key to the attack one.

I saw a lot of bullet casings today  I didn't realise how important dummies are until my third run through!

Scrap Seekers by Gonzo13 2019-10-06T23:46:02Z

Love the scene! I couldn't quite work out how the points worked but I enjoyed elbowing a few scrap seeking hobos all the same

Mr.Grind by iozsaygi 2019-10-06T22:08:13Z

Love the graphical style, music is a little repetitve but really sets a sense of pace to the game. Fun little clicker! Nice one

Minor potential bug - Gold Per Second is giving me 1 per second and i'm on 4

Ludum Dare 45: v0.0.1 (Working Title) by Travis Carlen 2019-10-06T23:27:36Z

Wow, four games in one! I like this minigame take on an idle clicker. Well done

Nothing45 by StickyGames 2019-10-07T14:56:20Z

Nice atmosphere in this game! Like the little intro where the lights turn on and you see all the controls on the walls. The graphics have a nice asthetic - some are really good - some of the models animations are a little wooden but not bad for a 48h game!

The mechanics are good. I wish you could interrupt searching bins! And you can fire in to the wall whilst you're searching which is funny (but not very useful ). It might be nice to change the controls so that punch and shoot are both on the mouse - maybe use mouse wheel to switch between them, or number keys to select weapon. I find F is a little tricky to use when you're also trying to dodge with D.

Overall, good fun

Word Salad by philliptrudeau 2019-10-07T00:59:01Z

I have to say I found it very difficult - even with your notes on this page! Audio sounded good to me - the music was cool

I'd say slow down the enemies a little, at least to start with, to give the player a chance to make a word to discover how to play.

Egg Problem by Bry 2019-10-07T17:12:53Z

Works really nicely. I think the blue slow down birds are a little overpowered - in that they make everything else so much better. A balance issue like that is not something to worry about in a 48h game jam though! The graphics and SFX were great. Would have been lovely to get some music to go with it! Good work

Knight of Redemption by Yeomsley 2019-10-07T15:13:27Z

All the components here for a nice little action adventure game. The movement was responsive and I liked the weird enemies

I don't know if there's a way to complete the game. I tried running around the map but couldn't find any specific exit. I like the way damage is visualised on the body of your player. With some textures I think that would look very cool and is a neat addition. Is there a way to jump? That might also help with the spikes!

I did notice that sometimes, when I re-entered a room from the far side, having gone through it once - that the enemies wouldn't always spawn.

And just to check, in the screenshot on this page there is intro text - that didn't appear in the version I played. Maybe it was just added for the image

Start Of A Galactic Empire by Ruby Interactive games 2019-10-07T10:42:42Z

Nice start on a city builder / 4x! Quite a *big* genre to go for in 48h. I think you should be pretty proud of where you got to, especially if most of it was in 24h rather than 48!

All the elements are here - it's just a bit of polish that needs applying - pretty much as others have said.

I personally didn't mind the music - it was repetetive but it felt like a nice starting point for a piece.

My base build was 4 pops, 5 farms, 1 factory.

A Field of Flowers by KeithSwanger 2019-10-09T12:09:19Z

Very relaxing and beautiful. It took me a while to realise I could pick up the seeds - or rather, i was trying to pick them up by clicking on them whilst i still had the sun 'equipped'. The music and visuals work very well together. Fine job

Nothing by motormousegames 2019-10-08T11:14:29Z

Itch.io page appears to be loading for me now. 15 minutes of work time gone

really nice concept for a puzzle game. Quite simple and really well executed. Nice pacing of the puzzle elements and difficulty was good. I wonder if there is really a need to hold space for light - given that i ended up holding space 99% of the time, momentarily releasing it for launching. I think you could just make the lighting the default and have space as launch on tap.

Ambience from the music is excellent

Starlight by naltroc 2019-10-07T15:44:47Z

Hey, the web version didn't seem to work well for me! When I rotated my ship I could still only fire towards the bottom right corner! So I just held the button down a lot and eventually it changed through some colours and then I won! Whoop!

The music is lovely :musical_note:

It really feels like you could come up with your own solutions to each puzzle. Very nice.

PolyFury by Dom Harris 2020-10-06T10:18:10Z

Nice game. Definitely one of the best bullet hell games i've played so far in this jam, and I think most of that comes down to finesse and polish!

The menus are a bit bland but most games on here don't even have menus so i'll definitely mark you up rather than down for giving us the option to change volume!

I didn't find if there was a quit button from within the game other than Alt+F4? :grimacing:

The movement seemed quite fast at first but I managed to win on my second play and it was a close win - so i'd say the difficulty was almost perfect for me. The camera and other little effects (tilting etc) probably made it feel even more exciting and were clever additions

Music and sound effects were very apt - they worked well!

Congrats on making this in such a short amount of time too! Not even using the full compo time

Cashier Every Day by schwede 2020-10-05T09:51:01Z

This was frustrating - in a good way!

It took a couple of passes to start to find the right angle that the barcode scanned at. I mean - that sentence is awesome because it shows that you've captured some of the essence of the cashier job!

It got pretty difficult I thought but the gameplay mechanics of pick, rotate, swipe were solid. I may have preferred a more granular rotation - as in slowly rotate it around the center whilst you hold down the button instead of the angle snap rotation but I don't know how that would have affected the gameplay.

Graphics being hand drawn gave it a fun look and colourful. I'd have loved more expressions on the customer faces - they made me laugh

Sound effects were minimal but totally as expected. It would have been great to have some background music too!

Overall I thought it was a fun experience and a solid LD entry 👏 👍

Time Ghosts by healthire 2020-10-05T11:19:41Z

Very nice puzzle game. I think it gets hard pretty quick but that could be fixed in the future by splitting up the levels a bit. It's quite overwhelming to start with!

The graphics are good, the gameplay is excellent.

I get 'caught' on the edges of doors sometimes although it looks like I shouldn't. That's a very minor issue.

Loved playing the game although I didn't manage to complete it! 👍

Defuse in under 5 by Darylsteak 2020-10-05T13:55:43Z

I love the art style and the game play. Had been waiting for this one since I saw it yesterday.

The first couple of plays were more like muddling through, as it isn't immediately clear what will give you the information you need. A short tutorial where you have very easy levels would be great.

Art is lovely. Love the style and the colour palette.

Music is appropriate and fun and the sound effects are just enough.

All in all good job, well done

Evolooption by WiseClock 2020-10-27T14:08:53Z

Loved the narration! The game got pretty difficult and seemed quite random by the end.

I actually enjoyed the nuke "twist" Although I did stop playing once I hit that

Well done 👍

Goop Loop by jitspoe 2020-10-27T14:17:11Z

Very cool mechanic although I really struggled with controlling it consistently! I'm sure with more time and refinement it would seem very natural - or some tutorial levels which explain & practice the most used movements.

Cool sound effects - and nice use of the tension building effects near the cliff edges 👍

A top entry! Well done!

Magical Marissas Troubles with Time by TheseusInABottle 2020-10-05T09:42:26Z

Oh god. Please get that sound out of my brain   It was very catchy!

Enjoyed playing the game - it was a really good length and I completed the wand on the third loop. My 'speed run' score was 29 seconds remaining

The aesthetic is hand drawn (to go with the voiced music!) which I like. The gameplay is smart and the physics are about right - everything behaved as I expected. There were no bugs although the cut where the music replays is a little harsh!

Congrats on your LD47 entry!

Run by MindJink 2020-10-06T11:03:40Z

Nice game with good atmosphere!

I found the ghost leading me to be quite... fast... although I never lost it so I don't know if it's moving at a speed relative to myself or I just managed to keep up!

I liked the thunder effects and the music was haunting and fit the theme.

I completed the level on the second run but never had to interact with anything so I don't know if that's intentional or some features were cut during build or if I was just lucky! 😆

Nice work

Portal Pete: The night-time Sheep by Kazatan 2020-10-05T08:58:34Z

@quak Thanks I think it's becoming a style of mine - I really like 2d/3d crossovers too

@lestat Thanks! It would have been great to have had another few hours to polish an ending and more levels!

@nikos @ondy1985 Glad you enjoyed it. I've added a video walkthrough to this game page above if you want to see how to complete each level. Thanks for playing!

Portal Pete: The night-time Sheep by Kazatan 2020-10-06T08:27:06Z

@rhoff95 Yes, I get the issue with the win conditions. I got to a point on Sunday where I wanted to add more levels to really give some depth to the game, and in those you would have got a sense of the rules that are in play. The first few levels were always supposed to be a bit abstract because I wanted the design to ensure you tried everything later on. With more time they would have been polished up, and as I mentioned in the Dev Notes - feedback to the user was high on my agenda via some more emotions on Pete. Thankyou for playing and your feedback!

Portal Pete: The night-time Sheep by Kazatan 2020-10-06T15:51:07Z

@dom-harris Thankyou very much!

@avatargreggles Can you try again or try this link to the hosted web version: https://kazatangames.co.uk/projects/ld47/ I can still see it working for me - hopefully you can see it.

@adil thanks for the feedback 👍

Portal Pete: The night-time Sheep by Kazatan 2020-10-08T08:10:21Z

@avatargreggles glad it worked for you and you enjoyed it!

@thewinrawr Yep, this is good feedback. It could do with a day's polish and a day's extra content! Funny you should mention the switch because most of the time when making games I have a rule of "make it difficult _after_ you've made it easy" but I don't think I applied that thought to the switch mechanic - probably in too much of a rush!

@11thpenguin I think there is definitely room to adjust the physics and the 'feel' of the movement. I think I settled on how it is because you can spend so long on that you run out of time for everything else! I'm a big fan of 2D/3D crossover and i'm happy with the way this one came out. Thanks 👍

@candlesan Thanks  I can understand that frustration. There were a few things I wanted to do to improve it but time was the enemy. More levels - where the 'rules' would become more obvious over time. And more feedback: to help players understand if what they're doing is helping progress the level.

@unluckyninja Yes, the last puzzle is a bit tricky. You can see when I recorded my video walkthrough above it actually took me several goes to get it right when I was trying to play it as if it was new to me! I take your point on the jump height - especially over the ball.

@thecreator Thanks! I too love a physics sandbox! I really wanted the end game screen to be one (with the 4 boxes) but I had to make more puzzle levels in the last bit of time on Sunday!

Portal Pete: The night-time Sheep by Kazatan 2020-10-12T08:17:19Z

@schwede thank you for your feedback  Your points are very fair.

I wanted to create more levels which would showcase the rules and I wanted an ending scene where you'd found a flock of sheep but time ran out. I actually hadn't put much thought into story - which isn't surprising given the short time to develop - but an extra-terrestrial plot would be good, yes!

If I return to this game to continue it I will definitely make some changes to help the gamers understand the puzzles 👍

Pogo Knight by TheWinrawr 2020-10-08T08:49:40Z

The game is really good but the controls went against my usual muscle memory! 😆 I don't know what it was about them but with jump and slash being the same button I consistently used them at the wrong times. For me a seperate slash and jump would have been much easier to control.

The graphics, music and sound effects were really spot on. The music could be a touch quieter compared the the sfx but that's a minor gripe. They were very fitting to the game and the art style.

Overall very nice 👏

Don't Go by ubershmekel 2020-10-06T08:38:36Z

I really enjoyed the concept. It's hard for me to mark it as fun because I liked the experience but as it's so alien to me it gets quite frustrating. I'm certain that that is the effect you were going for and so I won't mark it down despite my lack of pure 'fun' :grimacing:

I think it would be good if you kept a version up with the 48h build - with bug fixes of course - but adding things like the piano feel like a bit of extra polish that are great but not strictly within the 48h limit. I've seen many people before have an extra link to a 'compo' version and an 'extended'/'improved' version.

Good work and thanks for making this!

Danger Beat by rhoff95 2020-10-05T13:29:50Z

Very very good. I'm not that bad at bullet hell and I couldn't beat the 90bpm mode though  Could do with toning down the difficulty slightly I think.

Music was very good, and the graphics were really nice too

Tum-Tum: An Unexpected Diet by Maxime Barre 2020-10-27T14:03:21Z

Nice little game mechanic which works well. Fun art style. Well done 👍

GravLoop by AvatarGreggles 2020-10-06T16:04:45Z

Very nice game. I found the jetpack to be a tiny bit floaty - I would have liked a little bit more control at slow speeds because I hit a lot of platforms flying up. I almost made it to the top but kept running out of time by a few seconds so didn't quite finish it. I liked the fuel container mechanic and how that helped your progression. I think I would have preferred if the enemies meant you lost time instead of fuel though. It was very punishing - if I hit one enemy I knew I couldn't win and had to wait 20 seconds to start again.

Graphics, music and sound were good. A few more sound effects for the enemies would have been great.

Overall a nicely polished game, well done!

The Infinite Parable by BenSlaney 2020-10-08T08:41:10Z

Very enjoyable! Everything seemed right for an escape room and the puzzle 'inputs' were well done. I didn't get part of one puzzle and so I guessed the last digit - you can continue guessing after you've failed three times but before you're kicked out the game :grimacing:

Nice work

Time Saver by Daniikk1012 2020-10-06T15:46:55Z

Played on Windows:

Very smartly made game. Everything worked nicely and the mechanics were very good. I liked the time bubble - it took me a couple of goes to work out what it meant.

Once I got the hang of it the difficulty was fairly easy but it took me 10 minutes to play which I think is perfect for a ludum dare game.

Graphics were mostly very good and the sounds effects that were in the game were good too although some more would have been nice! I'd have liked a message "You Win!" at the end

Well done

LOOP by Akai_Pixels 2020-10-27T14:07:38Z

Works nicely - it's a proper little game this!

I found it was quite garish to look at (with the offset pixel effects) but I think that's probably because i'm on a large PC monitor instead of the target low res device!

INSIDE THE LOOP by aerloth 2020-10-27T14:02:15Z

I really enjoyed it although I never quite managed to understand my controls. If I wait, I can stand on the ceiling but if I go sideways I fall down.

I'm guessing the disorientation is intentional, and for that I shall say you succeeded!

No Room For Mistake by Jack I 2020-10-27T14:00:40Z

Aptly you described it as rage inducing

I enjoyed it, although I didn't like the levels where you started right over a gap! That felt too punishing!

I liked the quick levels and it's simplicity was a plus 👍

Hotel Mobi by TheCreator 2020-10-05T10:22:24Z

I loved the mood you've created in the game. Your use of music and assets has created a really nice experience!

I found it difficult to find the last window to clean. I mean, I guess I shouldn't worry given the obvious needlessness of it all  Nice touch with the 'last visitor' date

Cool :sunglasses::thumbsup:

My Last Wish by BDenis 2020-10-06T09:00:14Z

Ok so first off the game is really dificult! I don't know if you became pro at it because you played it lots but it took me several minutes and about 40 attempts to make it to the first black circle.

Then getting to the second was easy with the invincibility, but when I realised you could only have invincibility _or_ strength I stopped playing.

The gameplay ideas are good and make sense and the sound effects are decent. Congrats for making it in the time frame and my biggest suggestion for next time is to start the game easy and increase the difficulty 🙏😁

TIME MACHINE by stuartrules 2020-10-27T14:05:12Z

I enjoyed the first few levels (up to level 4 I think) but it maybe got a bit samey after that. The mechanics worked pretty well except I assumed I would have to jump on another past self's head to get across some gaps and that felt a bit dodgy in terms of physics (sliding off them).

Good concept and generally well executed with just a few things that could be improved with more time. Well done 👍

LD49 — Unstable

The Vortex by Liam 2021-10-04T10:29:24Z

I enjoyed playing the game. It was quite challenging but well voice acted and with a good level progression.

One thing with platformers like these - I would probably try and build in a little more tolerance for the controls and make it 'biased' towards the player. By bias I mean keep the hit boxes slightly smaller than the visuals - I don't mean make it easier! You can make the visuals bigger to compensate 👿! It just gives a nicer feel to the player.

By control tolerance I mean things like allowing the "jump" to happen shortly _after_ you've left the ground. Sometimes a player's fat fingers can't press the A and W keys at identical moments and so giving a little tolerance again makes the game controls feel tighter.

Congrats on your entry

Unstable Landing by schwede 2021-10-03T23:09:46Z

Infuriating 😡 ... in a **good** way! :grin::grin::grin:

It took quite a few attempts to get anywhere near a landing but eventually nailed it.

I liked the graphics and the sound effects fit with the style.

I got 78% on my 3rd successful landing.

Nice game 👍🏻

The game played well. I wish that you had maybe three lives though!

Badly Designed Cargo Delivery Pad by jka 2021-10-04T10:10:49Z

It ran well for me in Chrome, Windows 10. I enjoyed the game a lot too. For me, level 1 and 2 were way harder than 3 & 4. Level 5 I stopped on because I couldn't complete it in one trip and it was so far to fly back without any cargo!!

I had the same "issue" with the help text. It's not that it didn't clear after stage 1 - it did. It's that I couldn't see how to get to stage 2! The "Press space to advance level" text was hard to read and covered by the help text

SFX were spot on for the art style.

I thought this fit the theme well - despite how infuriating it is trying to train your brain to press left to "go right"

Professor Unstable's Chemical Combustion by Kazatan 2021-10-04T09:54:56Z

@poisondart00 @dobryn @richard-jiang @chameth @kassanu @mickm Thanks for playing! It's great to hear what each of you experienced from the playthrough! There's quite a lot of simulation going on under the hood - and I realised later that most of it was not necessary for this game 😆

I did have a debug view which I never managed to add into the released version: modelling2.png

The molecules get energised based on the solution temperature they're in. They all enter at 17°. That's why - when they're near the flame at the bottom - they get energised a lot more and wobble around 😁

The temperature shown in game is the average for the solution - and it's this that controls "game over" (110° and -10°). The Stability text is trying to work out if you've got a lot of reactive molecules in the solution which might force the temperature up above the max, or down below the min. 🤓

Professor Unstable's Chemical Combustion by Kazatan 2021-10-04T10:48:51Z

@kromeboy yes - I agree. I should have included something in the "Reactions" UI to show if it the reaction was endothermic or exothermic. I blame lack time and sleep 😁

Professor Unstable's Chemical Combustion by Kazatan 2021-10-12T20:04:11Z

@cody-miner that's a shame about the performance issues. You might have to wait for the molecules to heat up in the solution (it's not instant - each one has it's own energy level). Maybe the performance issues is slowing down the simulation too 😬

Professor Unstable's Chemical Combustion by Kazatan 2021-10-14T07:53:58Z

I agree @wendel-scardua - to see the underlying simulation would be really interesting I think. It's a shame I didn't work a view of it into the game. Thanks for playing 👍🏻

I enjoyed playing your game. I thought that the physics based gameplay was a neat idea. Thanks 👏🏻

My best was 867kg.

Cargo Cove by superjai 2023-05-08T15:47:19Z

I enjoyed the game and played it through to the win. I found it a touch easy and I think I would have prefered controls where left/right turn your ship slowly as opposed to `a` goes left, `d` goes right etc. That might make it more 'ship-like'.

Regardless the gameplay was fun and so I will be rating this very highly. 👏🏻

Pizza Friday by Phlip45 2023-05-08T13:49:26Z

I like roll & write games generally - I sell one! 😁

If took a little while for me to fully understand the rules of the game. I guess you don't have a lot of space for rules on the game sheet itself but it would have been nice to have an example playthrough sheet (2nd screen in the digital version) with an example of in-play. I'm more of a visual learner so seeing how the game is being played would have probably given me all the info I needed to play it myself. Explaining roll & write's is the most difficult aspect I find. I don't know if that's the same for you?

So nice mechanic. Nice way of incorporating the theme. Congrats on your entry 👏🏻

Mailman Madness by AndideBob 2023-05-02T07:02:57Z

I enjoyed cycling around the town. I really liked the sound and music - I know you didn't enter the sound category but you picked well. The dead ends (cul-de-sac) are the hardest part. Several times I turned down those and lost my multiplier! Thanks for the game 👍🏻

Zero gravity delivery by island-jam-2-group-3 2023-05-08T13:33:44Z

The colour switch mechanic was a nice addition. I managed to make a few towers before an impossible set of boxes flew at me (two of different colours from the same side at about the same speed). Congrats on your entry 👏🏻

Dante's Delivery Service by Scott Steffes 2023-05-02T07:20:43Z

I enjoyed your game. The night time twist was certainly a surprise and was a great addition. Like another reviewer I felt the daytime was a bit slow. I think you could have maybe added lots more packages to deliver and just allow that part of the game to be a bit of a speed rush (lower the money you receive for each parcel for balance).

I had a few technical issues as the game doesn't seem to 'keep' the mouse in certain scenarios. In full screen I could not turn past ~180 degrees. The turning felt a bit fast in general for me - but that might just be my preference.

I found the road arrows and bounce pads to be occasionally useful but I didn't feel like they were necessary for the game.

I saw three types of enemy - I don't know if there were more because I didn't get further than the 3rd night

Overall I liked playing the game and thought it nailed the theme 👍🏻

Perfect Delivery by JulienLussiez 2023-05-18T17:43:01Z

The graphics are totally fine - more than that - they're good! There was a breakout mobile hit called doodlejump that used a similar hand drawn aesthetic. I think there's a big section of gamers that would be totally happy playing a game like this.

Drone Drop by Kazatan 2023-05-02T11:43:49Z

@dysleixc @aschab If I were to work further on the game then I think lots more stats (including "wasted" boxes), power-ups, and some simple enemies (birds) to avoid would be my plan. I agree with your feedback - thank you.

Pizza Come: Deliverance by mira 2023-05-09T12:31:40Z

I enjoyed the game. If you had a bit more time it could be a nice idea to visually differenciate which pizza you are holding on your player. I found it difficult to remember which mode I was in - it wasn't natural for me to look at the bottom left. Also, it would be nice if it were more obvious whether the pizza is in your box or out in the world by looking at your player. There may be some subtle differences but they were too subtle for me if there were any!

Well done 👏🏻

Panic Potion by Tugaryn 2023-05-09T12:35:29Z

I couldn't get out of level 1  I wanted to though because I thought there was a decent game under there. If you could aim and throw with the mouse that would make a big difference to me.

Sole Deliverer by FoggyDude 2023-05-08T13:28:32Z

It took me quite a while to work out I could right click the plank to retrieve/destroy it. I liked the puzzles and weirdly I prefered having the planks destroy themselves after a set amount of time. That meant I didn't have to do it myself with the mouse! I got very close to the end I think (The Finish Line, going up the two steps on the far left after riding Will's cart). Unfortunately I got my plank stuck a step above where I was and couldn't right click it 😢

The graphics were proper oldschool and the music and minimal sfx suited them and the game in general.

Congrats on your entry! 👏🏻

Croc Crate Consignment by aschab 2023-05-02T07:40:15Z

I found the version embedded in LDJam to be working for me. Congrats on the game - it plays pretty well. I wish the arrow updated a bit quicker when you pick up a box or get to the next delivery point. I felt I had to hang around or drive in circles for a little bit (half a second?) and with the ghosts it made the game feel a little more sluggish. The driving and the core loop was fine though. Good work
