I liked the lighting, art, and the music. For a 10 hour game I'm impressed. Good job, solid game!

I liked the lighting, art, and the music. For a 10 hour game I'm impressed. Good job, solid game!
I liked it a lot. Nice graphics, nice atmosphere. Very hard though!
Fits the theme well. Nice looking planets and interesting concept.
Argh, multitasking. Creative take on the theme. It has a very polished feel to it. Pretty hard!
Overall nice game with solid features. Unfortunately it was too hard for me and I barely made it halfway to other planets.
Very nice game. Good difficulty curve and fun mechanics!
So awesome, really innovative concept and fits the theme well. I really enjoyed playing it.
It's not much of a game, but it's a good start!
Great concept, good gameplay. I like the basic graphics. World switching could have been easier and it's kinda hard to know what is going on. Overall nice.
Surprisingly fun for such a simple mechanic. I like the graphics and music a lot. Difficulty can be a bit spiky because of randomness.
I sure did, that's fixed now. Thanks!
I'll upload a 32 bit version too, maybe that's the problem with msvcr110.dll.
Nevermind I forgot to include it in the zip, redownload if you got the msvcr110.dll problem.
Pretty hard! Good shooting. Not very clear when you get hurt and the hitboxes are pretty unforgiving. Overall good game!
Really neat game. Elegant and sensible use of the theme, and a fun mechanic. A little hard to judge the size of your hitbox.
Cute game, fun music and solid gameplay!
@jack-maxwell I don't recommend the web version anyway as the performance is abysmal. There are dropbox download links for a packed executable version, as well as a love2d file. I'll look into getting an itch.io account, though. Thanks! EDIT: I uploaded the game to itch.io so it is also available there at https://healthire.itch.io/hell-venture-tycoon . Probably for the best anyway as dropbox isn't the most reliable for file distribution.
@muffty The altar is unlocked after you collect 100 praise!
@nardanas when you unlock the crystal you also unlock a spell for zapping minions. Each zap costs 15 praise. Later you unlock other spells to make mass sacrifice even more convenient!
@valkling-friend-of-all-things Thanks for the feedback! I agree some audio would have made a big difference. I just completely ran out of time. :( It's something I'll prioritize higher for future projects for sure.
Good music. Jumping feels a little floaty, but overall a good game and fitting to the theme!
Big plus for lasers. Good movement and shooting, killing hordes of enemies is always fun. Difficulty progression is a bit slow, and the vertical stripe background makes it hard to track vertical movement. Fun solid top down shooter!
Transitions between levels are very slick, but a bit too slow.
Very moody. I kept expecting something really bad to happen.
Very impressive scope, there's a lot in here! Controls could be a bit smoother. The difficulty ramps up really quick.
Fun mechanics and nice progression. It's satisfying to clear out the trees. It took me a few tries to figure out a good strategy.
Twist on a classic! Very nice. Leaderboards with replays is a really cool touch.
Looks great, very nice sound effects. Solid physics. Levels are fun if simple. It's hard to draw smooth lines but the bumps kinda make it more fun anyway. It's got a nice atmosphere to it.
Very nice. Novel mechanics, good level puzzle design. There's really a lot in here. The sound effects are fun too!
Looks super slick. I tried landing on the other planet and fell straight through it instead. With some real gameplay and gravity this would be really cool. Good job!
Very spooky! The sound bar was a good idea. Pretty short game as I found the helicopter almost immediately.
Nice graphics and good concept overall. Controls feel a little clunky.
Cool concept and a lot of nice variety in enemy types and powerups! Good controls. Balloon physics are a little too unpredictable.
Looks great and runs super smoothly. Great music, sound, and mood. Controls are a little hard and feel a bit disconnected. Physicsy gameplay meant I had to bump away incoming objects with the shields which felt a little unintuitive. Minor nitpicks though, overall very nice!
Good job! Colors hurt my eyes a bit and it seems like it would be pretty hard for a 3 year old hahah. It was a bit of a challenge for me and I'm way older than that.
It started off hard and got easier as the game progressed, because more food spawns as you play and there's more food spawning than you need. The game also slows down as you play so it's easier to control. Other than that it works fine and the gameplay is solid, well done!
Really cool game and really neat puzzle mechanic but damn is it hard. I would have loved to see more of the puzzles but I could not get past the difficulty of the enemies and shooting.
Looks good and has really satisfying sounds. Controls feel a little difficult with the physics.
I've lowered the sound volume in the web builds, I didn't realize it was so ear splittingly loud.
Got an impressive amount of stuff in here! A lot of interactions and stuff. Some of the text wasn't readable behind the icons in the top right.
Beautiful game, very atmospheric with great music. The gameplay was pretty easy, I completely messed up at the start and used up all my RCS fuel crashing into the moon but still managed to make it out of orbit.
Very fast and pretty hard, ship is pretty hard to see. It looks really cool though and the game mechanics are innovative and interesting.
Really impressive amount of game here. I didn't go through the entire thing but the puzzles are very cool and it fits the theme super well.
Board game idea is an interesting take on the theme. I seemed to spend most of my time just pressing roll waiting for equipment to brew. And when I managed to make a keg of pale ale it sold for less money than I spent on the malt and hops.
Cool mechanics, though it felt pretty hard just physically to get everything done in time. It made me think I was missing something and was doing something wrong, until I managed to get it. Overall really solid though. Nice graphics, solid gameplay. Fits the theme well.
Interesting mechanic. Good flow once you get into it. I did get into a soft lock where I was in the innermost circle and couldn't escape, and I couldn't find a way to reset.
Impressively big level. It's cool that you have cutscenes. Great overall mood.
You could probably just have skipped the shooting and sprint mechanics as they are each just used to get past a single hard gate each, and spent that time fleshing out the exploration parts instead.
Overall very good job!
Gameplay is solid. Nice music. Putting a leaderboard in was a worthy time investment. Some of the gaps between flames and spikes felt very close, borderline impossible, but it's balanced out a bit by the fact that you can heal.
Good job!
Pretty good controls and it was decent fun for a few laps. Not sure how it relates to the theme.
Fun take on the theme, and a fun game. Good music and sound, looks good. Nice to have a clicker that doesn't go on forever.
Very cool idea for game mechanics and solid gameplay. I was getting completely wrecked by the centipede.
Looks great, nice music. It's very passive in the beginning before you get any resources to buy any upgrades. Very zen experience. Good job!
Great graphics and a whole bunch of content. Cool generated levels. Not quite a full game but what you have is all really nice. It's a little weird to have a hotbar that isn't used hahah. Would play a full game version of this. Good job!
Cool mechanics and level design. A few paper cuts in the gameplay and performance wasn't great. Good job though doing destructible 3D terrain in a game jam is impressive!
Looks great and the environment is really cool. Simple but interesting interactions between the player and the environment. Well polished too.
@icarusdev @derean @hilvon @honey-pony @blubberquark
Thanks for the feedback! I'm surprised the platforming turned out too difficult because I thought I tuned it to be on the easier side and I consider the controls pretty tight. It's very easy to make it too hard though, after hours of testing you get really good at the controls. This seems like a consistent problem with LD games, especially platformers. Hard to get it right without external play testers!
I felt the punishing failure conditions were okay because the game is so short, and none of the rooms were (I thought) particularly challenging.
I don't think it was (consciously) inspired by any particular game. I just saw the theme and knew I wanted to do something recursive. This was the first idea that came to mind.
EDIT: Okay looking through it again there is one particularly mean room that sends you back to the beginning if you fail what is probably the hardest jump in the game. I would probably change that one.
Simple gameplay but everything is solidly implemented. Controls are good, sounds and particles make me not even mind hitting the obstacles. The ghosts to show where you died previously are a nice touch. Good job!
Interesting combination of mechanics. Some of the physics felt a bit inconsistent. Landing on flat ground seemingly launches you in a random direction which seems overly punishing, especially when you need to get close to the ground to get the pickups. That said, rope physics are inherently fun and this was an interesting take on it. Good job!
It's got a nice clean look and just fits the theme really well not just in gameplay but the mood and atmosphere of it. I like the sound effects of the fish they're super scary.
Only a maniac would make a ludum dare game in Rust though, what are you thinking.
Beautiful game with a great atmosphere. Very cool take on the theme and fits well. Good music and audio. Controls could feel a little tighter. Sometimes hitting space does nothing and sometimes it does something, hitting space feels like flipping a coin.
Got stuck at about 48 points for a few runs then figured it out and beat it with 109 points! Funny, well implemented, and pretty addictive. Good music and sounds. Overall solid, good job!
Very cool concept and interesting gameplay mechanics. Solid graphics and good sound and levels. Very mario maker. Unfortunately it was just too hard for me. I got to the level where you have to first jump on a rolling rock then roll a rock off a platform and jump off the moving platform, land back on the moving platform, land on the rolling rock, then pick up one rock, throw it, pick up another rock, jump and land on the rolling rock and bounce up to a ledge, then bounce the rock off the wall and bounce off that rock to get up the ledge.
A simple idea but very well executed. Excellent graphics and sound. There's not much of a challenge and it quickly gets out of control but it's very satisfying to play.
There's a really impressive amount of content here. The graphics are good, the sound is good, the music is good. The game is very hard in some frustrating ways though. Hitboxes on the worm things are a bit mean. Sometimes when I got to a platforming segment the moving platforms would be out of sync and that made it almost impossible to get past. It would be better to have no aim reticle than to have one that is wrong.
All that said, this is a cool entry for compo, good job!
Very solid little set of mechanics and really nice level design. The rules were quick to understand but with surprising depth!
I've played Kerbal Space Program a fair amount so I didn't have much trouble beating this. Close orbit around a big planet, pick up 1 fuel can in orbit, then one big burn at high speed toward the target and then it's smooth sailing. Well implemented but being able to skip most of the content means I didn't get to see a lot of it.
@robotex Oh sorry if I came off as overly critical. Very well done on the game, especially if you had an even more limited time frame! It was fun, I am a sucker for orbital mechanics hahah. It's very tricky to design a game like this so that it's challenging but not extremely difficult.
Cool innovative mechanics. Good audio, good graphics, good theme fit. Real solid level of polish which is something I really appreciate in jam games. Overall super solid compo game. It's pretty hard though and too stressful for me haha. I might have enjoyed it more without the time pressure.
Nice programming language choice! :)
