The 3D is not really successful But a little funny Good Job

mvasko2 2021-04-26 11:25

Thank you for playing, @elsombrero!

Can you please elaborate on what it means that the 3D is not successful? I want to know what to improve for the next time

I know about the lighting issues on the walls and about the graphics not being very pretty. Not enough time to fix that unfortunately

It is a really well executed endless runner bu I didnt find here any strong connection to the theme. Of course you can say that the tic tac runs deeper and deeper into that tunnel but for me it is not enough. Btw tic tac as a playable character idea is absurd but I like it. It is fuunny and probably easier to make than a character with hands legs and coomplicated animations

The character's movement could have been a bit snappier, and a few of the obstacles felt a little unfair (some combinations of pit, spikes and fire would essentially guarantee you lose 1 life). But that was pretty fun!

The gameplay and audio are great, I feel like some more 3D art would have really made it awesome, but it's good. The leaderboard is great too.

kieron-woodhouse 2021-04-26 14:37

Well I had fun! Ran for 2:52. The music kinda slaps - that kick drum is super punchy and made me want to keep playing :joy: The gameplay is pretty solid, although it sometimes feels like the obstacles are a bit too close together. Having to quickly move two spaces in a really short space feels quite challenging. Good job.

progdamn 2021-04-26 15:26

good game. And I am on the leaderboard)

geckoo1337 2021-04-26 19:57

Well done. I had fun playing (sorry but it recorded my name two times). I like your project, especially how you manage movement because it is really smooth. Even when I am jumping, I can control player. It's a good idea allowing only three steps - left, middle, right. It creates a good gameplay. Fire is well done, spikes too. maybe you could increase aesthetic and leaderboard. Thank you for this good game - and congratulations for your amazing score on my game Tunnel48 :)

mvasko2 2021-04-26 20:17

Thanks everyone for playing and the quality feedback! You've all made very good suggestions.

Don't worry about the leaderboard duplication @geckoo1337, that is a feature, not a bug (although I am probably going to treat it as a bug and fix it).

geckoo1337 2021-04-26 20:30

@mvasko2 I wonder what leaderboard you are using?

mvasko2 2021-04-27 18:20

@geckoo1337 A super simple Go server with a PostgreSQL database, nothing fancy

hpa97 2021-04-27 19:05

Simple, but fun and very challenging, I enjoy these type of runner games. I like that you implemented a public leaderboard which makes it worth going for a higher highscore! Also great soundtrack!

crocodiletuesday 2021-04-28 02:04

This is one of the most engaging games I've tried so far. I'm hooked on trying to beat my score, and I think that element takes this game to the next level. Also, I'm a sucker for any game that prominently features the tictac so that's a double whammy. great work!

nyxkn 2021-04-29 14:23

Super fun! Gets very challenging very quickly, which I think is good! But some times it felt like there was not actually enough time to avoid everything.

sdata 2021-04-29 21:06

I had fun with this one! There are some random generations that create near impossible layouts but liked that you have a chance to recover after a hit

healthire 2021-04-30 11:38

Gameplay is solid. Nice music. Putting a leaderboard in was a worthy time investment. Some of the gaps between flames and spikes felt very close, borderline impossible, but it's balanced out a bit by the fact that you can heal.

Good job!

jakobthequizguy 2021-04-30 19:49

I like it! The fire looks nice, and the music is really good. I just wish the player moved a bit faster, sometimes it felt impossible to dodge obstacles when they were in an unforgiving pattern.

mrosegreen 2021-05-01 13:57

Fun game - nice work on the graphics and sound design. If the player was slightly faster, I think I would have been able to avoid some of the less forgiving spike placements.

Overall, good job! :)

jk5000 2021-05-02 10:42

I love the games music and sound effects. The gameplay is okay, but is nothing super new. But overall a fine and fun little jam game.

kszaku 2021-05-02 12:33

The game is fun, and works correctly, however there is not that much to it

arthur-mairs 2021-05-05 11:25

Reminds me of temple run, nice job!

octopoid 2021-05-09 14:36

This is really good fun! Easy to get into, controls are responsive, and the music is great, I replayed it a ton of times without even thinking about it, just because it felt right and sounded good.

If I had to criticise anything, I'd just say the random generation could perhaps do with slightly more consistency, as odd as that sounds - truth be told my best time was very much made possible by the benevolence of the gods of RNG! The graphics are fairly basic but actually really clear - both the tic tac and the obstancles stand out really clearly from the level, and each other - I'd much rather this than really fancy materials that blend together.

The leaderboard for a game like this was a really great addition as well, as I could immediately see just how awful I was at it 😂 jokes aside, I played on for a bit to try and get into the top half at least, which I think without it, I wouldn't have.

Overall though, this a really great compo entry, I had a lot of fun!

laaph 2021-05-09 14:53

I love the idea! The is cool but I am not the biggest fan of endless runners. The music is awesome! I think snappier controls could have made this game more fun.

legavroche 2021-05-12 03:12

Gameplay was simple but fun. There were cases were the obstacles were just unavoidable though due to how close they were. I think fine-tuning the game balance can result in much improved gameplay with what you currently have.
