I loved the look and feel of this game. The sprite work is really nice and I loved the reverbed sound of the explosion from the gun. I did however find the hitboxes/death animation a bit confusing at times, it may be worth just making it a little more obvious when you died/why. Nice job!

superunknown 2020-10-05 00:02

I love the graphics, sound and animations. I did find it a bit difficult, maybe thats just me though!

mikoziq 2020-10-05 00:02

Hi! The visuals are astounding. The only thing I would point out is the slippery movement of the character. Seems kinda non-responsive at times :)

tulipekoni 2020-10-05 00:03

ah some great pixel art! Goold entry, although I found It tricky to time your jumps and rocket shooting to shoot over ledges. Good job!

dinosire 2020-10-05 00:05

Like others have said, this game looks and sounds amazing. I love the extra beat the rockets add to the music. It was hard to tell when the rocket hit the enemies as it didn't blow up on contact with them, and the death animation wasn't clear (it looked like I was still playing, perhaps screen shake/sounds/colours would have made this more clear?). Overall though, this is amazing for such a short amount of time, great work!

initialposition 2020-10-05 00:06

Amazing graphics! Especially for a compo game!

Since I'm playing on a QWERTZ keyboard the controls took some time to get used to but weren't impossible to manage. The rocket launcher feels solid and the rockets are very satisfying to use.

Had a lot of fun with your game, good job! :D

keylime 2020-10-05 00:08

A little tricky with the slopes but I love shooting rockets

stephanyeblakely 2020-10-05 00:09

I love the art and the music! I also found jumping and shooting to be very difficult, but it was tons of fun to play!

jessifin 2020-10-05 00:10

Maybe I just suck at video games but I thought that this was a bit too hard. When there are enough enemies you can't really complete the level because they will insta-kill you. Music was good.

jcmonkey 2020-10-05 00:23

in a game like this i would stick to normal control schemes. since you gave us arrow keys for movement, you should have given us UP key as jump, would have been a better experience then fat fingering rockets when your trying to jump.

curdlegames 2020-10-05 00:59

This is great! Love the aesthetic, the sound was nicely done too, there was a strange bug with enemies not getting attacked properly, but it was very forgivable because you did so much in such a short time, and bugs in a game jam are normal. Really really good work, my friend!

xenon27 2020-10-05 01:57

very good. I like the visuals and music a lot, game was good too. I would have preferred space or up arrow for jumping, but otherwise fantasitc.

magnusfurcifer 2020-10-05 03:03

Awesome visuals and sound. I like the idea of the level iterating as you traverse the loop.

I did find it a bit tough, mainly because of how the rocket worked (It wasn't like a bullet, but rather seemed to exploded a minimum distance away) but was still fun to shoot the baddies.

Really great entry.

bookerbluejay 2020-10-05 03:04

As stated, beautiful art! Gameplay was tricky and frustrating but i may just not be very good. Solid Game!

tengusheath 2020-10-05 03:19

The artwork and music are really nice. I found the game a little hard. The control scheme was too awkward for me to jump and shoot with my left hand.

albuquerque 2020-10-05 03:49

Great game. Solid graphics and audio and I liked the reuse of levels as part of the main mechanics of the game. Wanted the game to be more forgiving though. Great job, specially for COMPO. Wow.

rhoff95 2020-10-05 04:12

Extremely nice art and music. Well done. Collisions with rockets and enemies seems a little difficult, but overall a great game!

change 2020-10-05 04:17

Nice pixel art and audio! If have more different level,it will better.

nick-barrash 2020-10-05 06:28

I kind of wish you could jump on top of the bad guys. Really polished though, nice job!

connorthompson 2020-10-05 06:34

Absolutely lovely graphics however I did find a way to survive pretty fast (stand in top right or top left or under the central door) and after finding that I got bored fast. Has super crate box vibes but could do with some more enemy variety to add to the challenge ! good work guys

stuffed-wombat 2020-10-05 09:49

this is really nice!

I had some trouble realising what to do and what effect that had. Like, after opening the door and entering it, I wasnt sure something had changed! The changes between levels are too incremental i think, some harsher differences would make progress much clearer!

The same goes for the death animation! I often didnt realise I had died, because there was not enough feedback!

Design wise, the reset on death is extremely harsh, so i never finished it (if it even has an ending).

my favourite part is probably the soundscape & music, that works really well together!

Overall, great job on the production with some things not being clear enough for me!

zimny11 2020-10-05 09:58

The pixel are is really good... and music... and idea... and gameplay ;) I enjoyed playing it!

flopo 2020-10-05 11:55

Amazing visuals and sounds. The shooting feels pretty good. I just didn't really understand the goal of the game.

justuspan 2020-10-05 12:13

1) Juicy and lovely pixel art 2) Joyous BGM 3)incredible smooth animations All of these are combined together and we get this game. Very well! I give a highscore for this.

iluvatar 2020-10-05 12:21

I had a great time. It was very repetitive (which was the point), so I am happy with that. I really liked the smooth movement together with satisfying animations (the rocket is so cool!) and the graphics, oh boy how I loved the color selection. The dark colors really added so much to the game :) . I loved the relaxing music too.

PS: It took me a while to get even to the first door! But after a few attempts I managed to get used to the gameplay and it wasn't that hard. Yet still great fun.

nethead 2020-10-05 12:48

Huge thanks to everyone who has played the game so far, I'll be taking the feedback regarding difficulty/controls into account for future games ^^

@dinosire @stuffed-wombat you both mention that it was hard to tell when you died: on death some text should pop up saying "DEAD PRESS Z/X", was this not the case? I'm wondering if on some browsers/systems this is not working D:

stuffed-wombat 2020-10-05 12:57

@nethead the pop up was there. it just took a while to pop up.

the player didnt change animation and continued moving. the screen didnt go dark, etc etc.

it looked like gameplay continued for about a second and that was weird.

john-gabriel 2020-10-05 12:59

The game didn't seem to work on Firefox, but worked fine on Chrome. A+ for the graphics and music! The presentation here is really good. I didn't quite suss out the mechanic with the indicators and the doors, though. I seemed to get somewhere new by entering the first door when indicator 3 was lit, and the second door when indicator 4 was lit. A clever use of the theme, though.

nethead 2020-10-05 13:09

@stuffed-wombat ahhh that's super weird, sounds like a bug D: thanks for bringing it to my attention!

tomeks 2020-10-05 13:27

Wow very polished and such a nice music. Great entry for a compo.

neonjeff 2020-10-05 14:09

Nice game! I didn't like the hitboxes/splash damage and kept dying a lot but I'm also not great at platformers. fun music and mood!

zakamana 2020-10-05 14:58

Congrats on the entry! Cool polished game, I find it quite hard, but I'm not used to this control mapping. It has been mentionned above, but the hitboxes feel a bit harsh. I really loved the music!

doomerismo 2020-10-05 15:42

gave you really good scores here. The graphics, movement, mechanics and all are very well implemented and the game is surprisingly harder than it looks and yet perfect for a jam scope. But it dont seems that you can win the fourth level.

nethead 2020-10-05 15:52

@doomerismo thanks for the kind feedback, super appreciated! the 4th level is the last, and you have to run right after hitting the switch (you'll wrap around and come out the left side of the screen) if that's where you're getting stuck. if you make it to the last level you'll get a screen letting you know :3

indiedevdan 2020-10-05 15:57

Beautiful looking game, along with it sounding great. Clever idea for the theme too!

meek-bits 2020-10-05 16:59

The gameplay, audio and graphics are awesome. I can't beat the 4th level though. I think it's mainly because I believe that jumping on a monster kills it.

basileios 2020-10-05 17:02

The game feels a bit too hard and I can't really see the connection to the theme. However, I love the art and the game is generally really expressive

hamus 2020-10-05 17:35

Astonishingly cool soundtrack, especially when in-game sound effects mix so well with it. Love the art design and the gameplay feels responsive. Only feedback is that given how easy it is to die it would be nice if the game simply reset the level rather than sending you back to the beginning.

yeti-kid 2020-10-05 18:41

Really great feel and vibes with this game. A really cool experience! Reminded me of super crate box which is game I love! Would of preferred a traditional arrow keys or WASD controls but other than that great job!!

yeomsley 2020-10-05 20:18

Really fun! The rocket launcher is satisfying to use. Some of the levels get pretty tricky with timing jumps before more monsters spawn. Nice job!

bradur 2020-10-05 20:37

Difficult game. I spent at least 20 minutes playing it. The gameplay was slick and the feel of the game very engaging. I think figuring out the order was a little too much of a chore, since it was mostly trial and error. Lovely music & sound effects. Good job!

dharby 2020-10-05 20:47

Love the graphics. Nice work!

milestone-games 2020-10-05 21:43

What an amazing game. The level of polish was clear from the get go - I was especially impressed how you managed to communicate so much detail with such a low resolution and limited color palette, something I struggled a bit with my own game for this LD. The particle/smoke effect animation from the rockets were just right.

The soundtrack looped well and the sfx fit in really well, all without becoming repetitive.

I think you also nailed the difficulty level. After dying five times in a row on the first level it finally clicked, and I was able to progress further. The only suggestion I might add is allowing the rockets to also be able to loop around just like the character.

All in all a solid entry!

thorn 2020-10-05 22:17

Beautiful game. The shooting and jumping took a little bit to get ahang of. The jumping felt a little bit floaty and the shooting was a tad awkward because of the height the rocket came out at but the aoe explosion made that better. I do wish that there were more level designs (I only saw two after ~10 minutes if there were others then maybe I just got unlucky)

nethead 2020-10-05 22:37

@Thorn thanks for the feedback! i probably should have place the rocket a bit lower, good call. which level you end up on depends on which indicator (top of screen) is lit up - if you figure out the correct order there are 4 levels + an end screen.

dominatorino 2020-10-05 23:12

nice game, and man... the drum and bass was legendary nice work m8

maxtemple 2020-10-05 23:19

the pixel art is incredible :o

aplovestudio 2020-10-06 00:00

amazing!!! i love the art style!!

pokaloms 2020-10-06 01:19

great game, I love the aesthetic.

bicheste 2020-10-06 02:37

Loved the artstyle and the music, could give more feedback to the player when being hit but overall, great job!

supergamersgames 2020-10-06 02:39

Fantastic graphics, but I couldn't understand how I actually progress which should be a bit more obvious ;)

slammer 2020-10-06 02:41

Sooooo good! What a great style - excellently put together.

clemonades 2020-10-06 03:13

wow the music and pixel art are great!

badpiggy 2020-10-06 03:15

The art was really damn good dude. The music was rather nice as well. You got the theme right but the game ended up being rather repetetive XD. But for a compo game done in probably less than two days. This is awesome dude.

Also, there was a bug in the lower center of the arena with the hitbox of the ground being raised a little. Or was it intentional XD ?

6smith 2020-10-06 03:27

awesome game and concept, really enjoyed it. some of the timing with enemies could be a little more forgiving, though! if it didnt get so hard i might be more motivated to try and finish it!

cydouzo 2020-10-06 03:36

The music was great! I like how you made sure that each new instrument would join the music as we're finishing a cycle of the loop.

I was expecting something to happen if I survived long enough. Weren't supposed to go through a door or something like that?

On a second run, I hacked the game by climbing on the platform where enemies arrive and spawn killing all of them. Could be fixed by making sure both platforms are at different heights

melvinng 2020-10-06 03:54

Great graphics! Really enjoyable gameplay and I loved how the characters looked! Awesome, and solid game!

zashers 2020-10-06 04:57

Good energy and ambiance to the game!

nerdytopic 2020-10-06 05:35

Sadly I had an issue where no matter what keys I pressed nothing happened, so I didn't get to get past the first level. But I did refresh a few times, and from what I can see the music is *excellent* and I LOVE the art. Especially how you outlined the main objects that are important with a white outline. Nicely done!

adil 2020-10-06 06:22

Wow, graphics are wonderful, sounds good too. It's so ambitious, love it

worblir 2020-10-06 06:35

Wow, great job! The game looks, plays, and sounds great overall! Sometimes I found the combat involving jumping and timing rockets to be a bit frustrating, but that was a minor note and could just be on me. Good work!

daniikk1012 2020-10-06 06:42

Graphics and sounds are awesome!

bentebent 2020-10-06 07:35

Really clean entry with crisp gameplay, sweet visuals and nice audio. My only gripe would be that it's very hard to differentiate between levels, even when I was certain I had jumped into a different one I couldn't really tell what was different. Overall tho, really good job!

3mpty 2020-10-06 07:37

Looks and sounds great, the gameplay left a bit to be desired, enemies only spawn at the top and don't really do anything exciting, the players moveset is a little overdone, the players hitbox and weapon behaviour are also a bit clunky...

I think it missed the mark on the jam's theme but easily makes up for it with gorgeous sprite work. I can't stress enough how nice this spritework is

andreo200 2020-10-06 08:37

Not cool control, but good sounds and graphics.

div00 2020-10-06 10:47

I like the art, the game feels a lot polished. It's a great game, but to make my comment useful, these 3 areas, I find needs improvements: - Alternative control as current controls make it even harder to play the game. - Hit boxes seems off, maybe they need to get decreased? - Kill and movement animation seems unresponsive.

Thanks for the good experience!

fishmasterino 2020-10-06 10:49

Awesome sprite work

thekrane 2020-10-06 10:55

Unfortunately the game is really hard to control for me on my QWERTZ keyboard with X and Z being so far away from each other. I like the look and feel of the game though.

witekwitek 2020-10-06 11:13

I really like this Game! It's really fun and Innovative! The only problem i have is the controls. It took a little bit but after, I got used to it

asue 2020-10-06 11:57

I really like the atmosphere of the game. The music and the graphics fit well together. Well done :o

snazghoul 2020-10-06 12:24

Great artwork & sound, solid feel. I couldn't finish the game however, whenever I got the 4th stage I would get trapped in an unwinnable situation where I was forced to drop on enemies and die. This also seems to cause a bug where the game will only load room 1 after restarting.

easygoingdubber 2020-10-06 12:34

harts in ears but other look fantastic

louiejams 2020-10-06 12:36

Lovely little accomplishment for a compo entry! I found the art very cute and the music seemed to suit the environment. I wasn't sure what the top diamonds were for and the middle tiles was kind of unclear on where the actual platform was. Great job!

nethead 2020-10-06 12:50

@badpiggy thanks for playing! the slightly raised ground in the middle was intentional! I probably should have made it a little higher so it was obvious though. really appreciate the feedback :3

nethead 2020-10-06 12:54

@cydouzo thanks for the thoughtful feedback! in the middle-bottom of the map there's a switch (red circle). If you hit it the door will open. to make progress, you need to open the door and then pass through it when the correct indicator (top of the screen) is lit up (otherwise you get "stuck in a loop").

nethead 2020-10-06 12:56

@nerdytopic sorry to hear about that! did you try clicking inside the game? it seems to depend on the browser/system, but for myself I have to actually click the game itself before the controls become responsive. if that doesn't work then i'm at a loss ;; thanks for the kind feedback regardless!!

zrepa 2020-10-06 13:00

It is hard at the beginning, but a little bit later - deal with all levels. Good job!

caeonosphere 2020-10-06 13:10

Wasn't able to finish the fourth room: you mentioned in another comment that you can walk right and wrap around, but I just see a wall there, and the enemies fall down too fast for me to get back up. Hm!

Cool art and music, enjoyable even if I couldn't secure the win. :)

nethead 2020-10-06 13:10

@snazghoul thanks for the kind feedback, and for making it all the way to the 4th level! I'll have to see if i can figure out why the restart bug would happen. also that unwinnable situation was definitely a poor design choice so thanks for calling it out!

nethead 2020-10-06 13:13

@caeonosphere thanks for playing! that would be the third room and it is.. admittedly poorly designed. it's possible to get up but it's tricky! if you're interested, there is an updated version (https://nethead.itch.io/soro-boro-updates) which makes that area a bit easier, but i realize you are probably busy playing more jam games!

g-a-gamestudio 2020-10-06 13:25

@nethead Great game, but controls are a little weird and the game can be really difficult as you have to start over when you die. I wish I could rate it, but I couldn't make my game on time.

caeonosphere 2020-10-06 13:28

@nethead Hey, if you respond, I'm gonna give it another go... and I was able to navigate the time loop and beat it! The spawn rate of enemies still seems determined by how many enemies are dead, I'm guessing? In the very last section I was having like five enemies spawning back to back from the left and coming down the stairs. Only with a very tight jump was I able to escape.

nethead 2020-10-06 13:33

@caeonosphere thanks for giving it another shot :D makes me very happy to see people beat it. the spawn rate is constant but what you're seeing is slimes from the bottom left wrapping around to the top right, so sometimes you get weird clumps like that. lesson learned though, i'll try to keep the difficulty more consistent in future games!

holyperceval 2020-10-06 14:16

The lack of informations is serious... And what are with the keybindings ? left right Z ? ever heard of wasd or ad Space ? Other aspects like music and graphics are great !

ssjcoder-yt 2020-10-06 14:22

Amazing Graphics!

ansoneh 2020-10-06 14:31

Great graphics and sound! Gameplay reminds me of Super Crate Box in some ways.

skvader-418 2020-10-06 14:32

the graphics are the best ive seen so far but i feel like the hitboxes are a bit wierd, and the game is a lot of fun

tamail 2020-10-06 14:54

Oh, this game is hard! But I enjoyed it along with the music and beautiful graphics!

binroot 2020-10-06 15:01

Very polished! A quick suggestion: I kept confusing and X and Z keys. Maybe spacebar for jump and Shift for attack?

animaster 2020-10-06 15:12

Art and music is very cool. Jump function can be better in my opinion, but still, really great job!

kate90 2020-10-06 16:35

Great art, fantastic music! I just cant understand why you used z/x for jump/shoot? After multiple attempts I'm still confused with controls. What is pink diamond there for? I see it changes slots from first to second and so on, but what it indicates? couldnt figure out that one.

thomas-volpato 2020-10-06 16:43

I thought the game a bit repetitive, But the idea, sprites and sound are nice, I think you you get some more variations it could be a nice game to sell it.

nethead 2020-10-06 17:06

@kate90 thanks for playing and leaving feedback, really appreciate it! I grew up playing cave story, a platformer that uses the same z/x control scheme, so it feels more natural to me but i know now to support WASD as well in the future!

as for the diamonds, when you go through a door, where you end up depends on which diamond is lit up. to progress through a given level, you have to figure out which diamond is "correct". sorry if the puzzle was too vague!

nethead 2020-10-06 17:07

@thomas-volpato thanks for the nice feedback ^^ definitely wish I'd had time to add a bit more variation, maybe i'll create a post-jam version when i have time.

indivisibleparticles 2020-10-06 17:15

The hitbox could be more forgiving in my opinion, otherwise a very nice game and I really loved the music.

ruruie 2020-10-06 17:55

This is very crisp and well presented by I wound up being super confused by the puzzle as well. Also would've been nice to have more control or play with the rocket launcher as I'm not sure what causes it to trigger. It sometimes blows up slimes and always when hitting terrain but I couldn't find a mechanic to aim it down?

victor-reiner 2020-10-06 18:28

Is beautiful! The graphics and especially the music is great! I loved it!

darkmax14 2020-10-06 19:20

Graphics are gorgeous and sound is amazing too. Took me a bit to figure out what to do though

mohmehdi 2020-10-06 19:53

every thing fine but i guess there should be a reloading time rather than hiting x rapidly

bellringerquinn 2020-10-06 20:00

Great art and music. Gameplay is extremely hard. It was confusing when I first went through the the door and didn't see any difference.

trypants 2020-10-06 21:26

The game feels great overall. Took me a while to figure out what to do. I think 1 simple thing that could change, is to add a really small pause when the player shoots. Strong entry

jon-nova 2020-10-07 00:12

Nice art and music. a little difficult, but pretty cool

blue05 2020-10-07 00:23

The pixel art looks really good! It was a little confusing at first, but it was really fun when I kept playing.

victor-vk 2020-10-07 01:24

Really Great, the music is incredible, realy cool to play with a lot of potential

I had some trouble to realize what to do, isn't that intuitive that we need to hit the switch

so good vibes but i think that we could have more feedback for our actions, a death screen to be more explicit that we died, diferences between the levels, cause sometime i think that nothing has changed

and if we die, the enemyes should stop spawning, because i let the game opened some time to drink water and this happend, LMAO:

Screenshot_4.png

lanalux 2020-10-07 01:26

Wow, this was super hard but really addictive! Great work! :)

jeremy-ryan 2020-10-07 01:32

Solid entry! It took me a few tries before I realized you could shoot rockets (I must have tried level 3 ten times haha). The graphics are really clean and the mood is nice, although the hit boxes could be a little tighter (there were a couple times I didn't think I should have died, but alas).

Good work for 48 hours!

chris-hay 2020-10-07 01:56

Thanks for making a post-jam version with up-arrow jump! Way easier to play with right hand on the arrows and left just to shoot, I found. It's really a fun addicting puzzle, so far I got about five levels in with the memory aspect but then gave up (it's a good challenge though). Yeah, the music and graphics are great, and the animations. Thought you used the "stuck in a loop" idea pretty cleverly too. Amazing job for a compo submission!

eduardo-yukio 2020-10-07 02:10

I definitely wasn't expecting the drum and bass haha, it's one of my favorite music genres, and it's SO GOOD! It gave a nice mood to the game. I never created music in my life, but now I feel inspired to learn and make something like you did, its so good, I left the game tab open to write this comment while listening to it hahaha.

The pixel art is awesome too, everything is beautiful and well polished: it has screen shakes, particles, animations, nice.

I think it would be nice to have the instructions inside the game. I had to exit fullscreen twice to read the commands and what I was supposed to do.

It is a bit harsh too, when I died after going through three rooms it was very frustrating to spawn at the beginning.

But overall, I think this was a great experience! I'm feeling very inspired by it. I will for sure revisit it in the future to use as a reference!

tinykidtoo 2020-10-07 02:48

Man this was challenging, I never did figure out the timing. I just kept dying over and over. It might be too hard for me. I don't play many platformers. Awesome art and sound though.

samdwester 2020-10-07 03:30

I wasn't able to figure it out but the graphics are pretty good and the sound is amazing

mafgar 2020-10-07 03:32

Wish I was better so I could hear the entire track! dope song, cool art!

junebug 2020-10-07 04:28

You did a great job with this! As folks have pointed out, the music and art was great. Sometimes it seemed like the rocket passed right through enemies though, which was a bit annyoing. The character was also a little slippery for my tastes, but that's a more personal opinion. Might have been nice to be able to take more than one hit before dying, but it does emphasize the "stuck in a loop" aspect of the game, so it does have a positive aspect as well. Once again, great job!

pichuscute0 2020-10-07 04:54

Not sure I quite understood what was going on here. The graphics are looking nice, but the music is a bit annoying. I liked the feedback of the shooting, but I was much less a fan of the jumping physics and that you could fall down hills. Overall, it felt a tad sloppy, but I do appreciate what was done here nonetheless.

krg 2020-10-07 05:22

very cool game need download option

arad-hamidsamiee 2020-10-07 07:27

nicly done

tipyx 2020-10-07 09:23

Well done and well crafted (the art and the music are excellent!).

pradhuman 2020-10-07 10:07

Cool Game But Too Hard For Me

tannimun 2020-10-07 10:41

I liked the visuals and the audio was very good. I think the game should be played with a nintendo 8bit controller haha

zombiebust3r 2020-10-07 10:52

Amazing graphics and cool gameplay. The little changes to the maps makes you think quick to where to move and how. The collisions of the enemies are a bit too low, sometimes the bullets go through them.

sarafilipa 2020-10-07 10:53

This is a gem of a game. The art is awesome, the audio is really good too. Fun and nicely challenging too. Feels very polished too. Well done :D

squimmy 2020-10-07 11:39

I really like the idea, but I'm sad to say that the combination of dying in one hit and miserly hitboxes on the enemies put me off enough that I didn't stick through to finish it.

Aside from that, the rest of the game was great. Good music, distinctive art, and all of it working together to build a compelling and cohesive style.

eldelhas 2020-10-07 12:14

That's a good game ! Good job doing it by your own, that's not easy !!

nethead 2020-10-07 12:49

@jeremy-ryan @junebug @zombiebust3r @squimmy thanks for the feedback, particularly on the hitboxes! i think i'll need to add separate hitboxes for player<->monster and bullet<->monster next time, since it sounds like they were too large for the former and too small for the latter! greatly appreciated.

nethead 2020-10-07 12:51

@victor-vk thanks so much, this is some of the nicest feedback i could receive! the fact that i could inspire you in any way means a ton to me :D also ty for the feedback on instructions, i'll try to make the game teach its own mechanics better next time.

theaxe316 2020-10-07 13:35

Very nice entry! Really cool premise. It was difficult but fun. I especially loved the mood of the cursed temple.

tricky-fat-cat 2020-10-07 14:05

Small and neat arcade game with classic vibes. I really enjoy such a simple concept in such great realisation.

copito 2020-10-07 14:12

I liked the art direction and colour palette / style, but i found the rocket collision a bit too janky i think it would have benefited a lot from Continuous Collision Detection

nethead 2020-10-07 14:22

@copito thanks for the feedback! i've found godot's collision detection to be a little janky in general, going forward maybe i'll just implement my own raycast based solutions...

jusw85 2020-10-07 15:43

I really liked the aesthetic, and the platforming was great! I beat the game, although I still didn't understand why I had to enter the doors in that particular order, I just randomly entered until I got a new screen.

Spoiler:

colejparker 2020-10-07 18:22

Pretty difficult but great job on the sound and sprites! There seemed to be some weird things going on with the rocket's collision detection but overall liked the game.

sefan 2020-10-07 18:23

A beautiful, addictive and difficult game. Great job.

mykola 2020-10-07 18:38

Very good entry! Everything is on point. I played several times but could not find a way to pass between enemies on the way to exit on the third level. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the game!

garywiss 2020-10-07 19:02

The game is a bit too repetitive but fun, I really like the art style. Good Job !

seth-tal 2020-10-08 01:31

Nice work! The sprite art is fantastic! The way the character feels is smooth, although I found it difficult to get used to the controls. Nice work though!

ukulelefury 2020-10-08 02:55

:) Very cool! I love the art style. It was all very well composed to create an immersive feel. I find myself deeply curious about how this mysterious adventurer is, and why he's lost in this spooky underground... Not really a revolutionary new concept, but very well implemented fun to play.

celuloide 2020-10-08 07:53

Cool game! my nitpick is that sometimes the rockets were passing through the enemies and it frustrated me a bit. Good job!!

pixelmoose-studio 2020-10-08 08:21

Amazing graphics and smooth movment and amazing sound, a bit to repetetive tough

berserg 2020-10-08 09:59

Polished game. Graphics and sounds are amazing

colinbellino 2020-10-08 10:17

The art is super nice, love your style <3 The audio was good too !

Unfortunately i couldn't get far into it because of my keyboard layout (azerty), and also because i'm bad at playing side scroller without a gamepad haha.

pinneh 2020-10-08 10:50

Really well done! As mentioned previously I think the hitboxes are a bit off but once you get used to it, its mostly okay. It might have just been a combo of the platforming being a little floaty and the hitboxes being the size they were? Great game though, good job!

weeping-rupee 2020-10-08 16:02

Hey, I played my game on your stream if you're interested the VOD is posted here.

krg 2020-10-08 16:05

well noice game sorry but i dont know why u r at first position just kidding lol great art work and shooting

collision could be better

nethead 2020-10-08 16:42

@Krg ahahaha no worries i don't know either but I appreciate it a lot :D :D

nethead 2020-10-08 16:44

@weeping-rupee thanks so much!!! watching you play helped immensely with understanding which parts were too difficult/not intuitive, i appreciate it a ton :D

etrealjunior 2020-10-08 18:23

Hi all right, I loved your art, I really like the simplicity well executed, some things have to be observed when staying for a while at the bottom it becomes impossible to leave, due to the huge number of enemies, you would not need to put down on the door to leave only, if you redesign the level you can have many more things to enjoy using the displays, congratulations again, a big hug.

l30nard0-b 2020-10-08 18:57

GG good game

malashik 2020-10-08 19:44

Great job! Sprite-art is awesome, music is great, the idea is perfect! I love this game! :)

dmitry-mozgin 2020-10-09 09:39

I like pixel art and music they fit well together. The visual and music are very good quality for combo games it is definitely the strong side of the game. I like levels, but they all look the same. I mean literally it is very hard to distinguish them, but objects on a level are different. If I got it right, then the game has only four levels and that is a few content. I think this is the main weak point of the game. Overall, very well made combo game!

arron-fowler 2020-10-09 11:35

You have already picked up on the controls which I did find got in the way. I needed to get my Jungle on! Other than that I loved it.

neowhoru 2020-10-09 11:54

really nice graphics and fluid gameplay - also you should enter door better made "UP" key - down is not intuitive entering a door :D

bibicio 2020-10-09 17:09

This was an amazing game, especially as a compo entry! The art was really cute, the audio was amazing, the idea was creative and the gameplay was smooth (although I couldn't pass the 4th room...). Overall, really impressive stuff, good job!

scidev 2020-10-09 20:30

Sound and Graphics are amazing but the two things that I would change is that it is not always immediately obvious when the player dies, maybe a sound to alert the player?

moddingmachine 2020-10-09 22:18

Was a little hard to get a hang of the movement, but once I got that done I had a great time! There are few games a really enjoy playing however this was definitely one of them. Great Submission!

projectaroid 2020-10-10 01:04

Art and audio are great and work really well together. The game play feels really nice. Great work!

sandpile 2020-10-10 01:23

A cool game. Graphics are excellent, and the music works well. The hitbox of the bullets is a little bit strange i thought, but overall, cool game!

davidwesst 2020-10-10 05:55

Wow this game was awesome. I never did figure out the pattern, but once I got a hang of the controls I was having a ton of fun running around blasting. Great graphics, and that music is just lovely. Continuing to listen to it while I write this comment because it's totally my jam.

This is an amazing submission. Great work!

doctorhummer 2020-10-10 09:43

Definetely one of the most beautiful games from this jam. Bravo!

patrickjr 2020-10-10 19:37

I love the background music. I'm loving the simple color scheme. Shooting rockets feels powerful. Innovative way of incorporating the theme. I find the game hard; to me the enemy colliders are too big.

almax 2020-10-10 23:03

Great aesthetic and audio! The gameplay was simple but engaging. I loved how the rocket launcher felt, but found the character a little uncomfortable to control - primarily due to enemy hit boxes and the character feeling a bit too floaty. As others have mentioned the levels do all look/feel very similar which can make it difficult to tell if you're doing the right thing to break the loop.

All that said it was a very polished entry and I had fun playing! Looking forward to your next jam game!

bumdag 2020-10-11 00:18

I really niced the graphics and musics/sound effects but the controls did my head in to the point I refuse to progress further. Not even getting to the first door.

joleon 2020-10-11 11:23

Excellent fun and addictive game! I restarted countless times, but could never get past level 3 :/

Interesting concept, but I never really understood the mechanics 100%. Each level has some value the top counter (1-2-3-4) has to be on in order to progress when you leave the level, right?

I wish leaving the level at the wrong time didn't bring you back to level 1, but actually just made you replay the current one, that made more sense to me.

I also wish dying wouldn't instantly bring you back to level 1, but maybe 3-4 lives per game would make sense for this difficulty.

The dark/eldritch pixel art style is beautiful, and the outlining made it super clear what was the visually most important stuff on the level.

THE MUSIC is probably my favourite part. Probably kept me in a trance, replaying more times than I normally would have :)

Good job!

nethead 2020-10-11 13:27

@joleon thanks for the very thoughtful reply! in retrospect i agree with all your suggestions regarding death penalities/difficulty. you totally got the mechanic correct, but as others have mentioned there isn't really enough feedback to make that clear and i didn't leave any hints to help with that. lots i can do better for my next game!

thanks again for the kind works on the art/music, i'm really glad the atmosphere clicked for so many people ^^

wabble 2020-10-11 18:32

Cool music an graphics, didnt understand what the dots on the top did

stefan-laimer 2020-10-11 21:47

Great game! The art is nice, the music is phenomenal and I really like the difficulty. It's challenging, but not impossible.

As others already mentioned, the control scheme takes some time getting used to, especially on a German keyboard, where z and y are swapped :D

The 3rd screen was the toughest for me but after some tries I figured our a route how to beat that screen consistently. And then after a few more tried I managed to beat the game :)

soroboro.PNG

sharked 2020-10-11 22:09

Pretty cool ! But I struggle with the input chosen, it's very odd.

nethead 2020-10-12 01:02

@stefan-laimer thanks so much for playing! and I do feel bad for being unaware of QWERTZ keyboard before this... oops, lesson learned! really happy to see you beat it, congrats ^^

lesinvisible 2020-10-12 11:39

Very solid looking game, I liked the feel of characters movement and these slick animations. Also, not so uncomfortable control scheme by the way.

gentoogames 2020-10-12 20:41

The game is brutal, but i definitely enjoy the challenge! Great submission and i love the pixel art!

frankarlovic 2020-10-13 13:02

The pixelart is great, it's a pitty that I've seen just a tiny glimpse since I couldn't get very far...

eoshadows 2020-10-13 21:23

Really great game! The graphics are amazing, as well as the sound effects and music. I do agree with what a lot of the other people are saying, the controls are a bit uncomfortable, but I managed to get used to them. I think it kind of adds to the uniqueness of the game though - it just adds to the challenge. Speaking of challenge though - aaaaagh. This deserves recognition as a rage game. I could not get past what I think is the third level change? I know there's a way to get past it, but it's just so difficult, especially sense I keep getting sent back to the beginning. I wouldn't change it though - I actually love how freaking challenging it is. As I said, it makes for a great rage game. Overall - great game! Well done!

d-studios 2020-10-14 00:37

I liked the graphics of the game (especially the visual effects and the screen shake). I liked the moody simple soundtrack and the sound effects were also quite nice. However, this game was frustrating for me. First, I was angrily confused on what the objective of the game was. I was still frustrated with the game after learning what the objective was because I thought it was unfair that death resetted all my progress.

healthire 2020-10-14 00:38

Very nice art. Good music and sound effects, and cool gameplay. I could not figure out how to do the 4th room, and the hitboxes seem a little unforgiving.

apples-mmmmmmmm 2020-10-14 21:21

Cool game. Great visuals, nice sound effects. Like others have said, controls are pretty awkward. The chamber navigation is neat, but one of the chambers felt impossible since an enemy would spawn and fall back to where you need to jump back up to without time to move past the section, or space enough to shoot the enemy blocking your path.

james-joubert 2020-10-15 07:35

Great visuals and audio. I just couldn't get past the first level, as the controls are quite awkward, and I think the hit box on the character is a little too big. At times it doesn't even look like I made contact with the enemy, but then I'm dead. A little tutorial, or super easy level would've worked nicely as well.

flying-basement-studios 2020-10-15 21:34

I like the graphics and sound, I think up arrow for the jump would be better

killerkun 2020-10-16 09:26

Excellent work on this, you definitely nailed it with the art and the theme overall, I guess most people have already said this but an option to switch control schemes would have been nice. Great work!

pierre-cilluffo 2020-10-17 09:56

I like the graphics and music but I don't understand the goal and the controls are disturbing (Why we jump with z and not with up arrow or space ?)

bitdecay 2020-10-18 05:13

A very well rounded experience. I had some issues with how the hitboxes work (I may be missing something with the rules of the rockets). So I died a lot with slopes and other situations. I found it very difficult to navigate the level segments as there isn't much feedback. I felt like I was going through the door at the same time, but I would end up in different places.

All that said, I enjoyed the game, and it's hard to not enjoy playing games to some DnB :)

kuro 2020-10-20 12:44

This might be the best compo game I played so far this LD. Took me a while to figure out what I was supposed to do, but it was fun most of the time. Finishing it took me about 10 minutes. An ideal gameplay time for LD game. Thank you for the game, and well done!

felixmcfelix 2020-10-20 22:15

Very nice to look at, and an interesting concept. I didn't have any issue with the controls, but dead enemies being able to kill me was a major pain point. The music was nice and fit the dark tone, but I would have liked if it didn't reset every time I died.

Great work!

vphyre 2020-10-21 04:30

Your game is very unique. I like the graphics, and the sound in general. The mechanics of observing the time indicator to be able to access the door is also interesting. Good job.

hunttis 2020-10-21 14:36

The game looks great, plays great and sounds great.

The controls are a little difficult and the only thing I was really missing was that the death event would have a sound, since the death animation was kinda long. It felt like the controls were taken away from me and I didn't immediately understand why (I had died, so of course, but a sound would've made it clearer what happened).

Despite that, one of my favourites this time around and I'm happier to have played it.

jonathanwang 2020-10-22 22:01

The graphics are stunning and the sound design is great. Gameplay wise its a little bare but it still feels satisfying to move and shoot.
