Very interesting idea, and the visuals are nice. It creates a cool ambience. Great job!

Atomos by phi 2020-10-07T04:14:07Z

The art style is quite nice. It looks like a nice "hand drawn" type of style and very friendly. Nice work!

BLOOP by danman9914 2020-10-06T00:04:54Z

Very cool! A nice take on the theme, and well made. Good job!

Troubled Mind: A Life of Torture by Flying Cat of the Pepes 2020-10-05T01:43:14Z

I especially loved the "reviews" in the opening sequence. Seems like it was a fun game to make. Nice work!

Loop2Loop by A-Flat Miner Studios 2020-10-07T20:10:07Z

Love the visuals here. It creates a nice 'game feel.' Good job!

loops by irwatts 2020-10-05T00:57:41Z

This game got a good laugh out of me. The environment was great, and the graphics were really pleasant. The difficulty to control the loop makes sense to keep it difficult, but I did find it frustrating trying to move anywhere. Nice work!

Loopst by dcrdro 2020-10-06T22:29:07Z

I really like the art style here! It's interesting. It almost looks "washed out," but in a good way. Almost like pastel colors.

Nice work!

Dungeon Simulator by Yeti Kid 2020-10-05T19:38:21Z

Love the idea! I think there's a lot of potential for the 'dungeon builder' mechanic. I think it'd be interesting if you continue on with the idea. Nice work!

Pulsewave by bitdecay 2020-10-08T03:54:18Z

Nice work. I like the screen effect when things rewind.

Hooped by Matsudasu 2020-10-07T04:11:02Z

Also would love Windows or Web, but I must say I love the screenshot! I'm a big fan of the gameboy-era color palette.

Spinnerets by Jeremy Ryan 2020-10-05T02:16:42Z

Awesome work! I definitely agree with the recommendations to continue this after the jam and expand on it.

Shlooped by Omni 2020-10-05T01:46:51Z

Very interesting idea. I didn't realize what was really happening until the third loop. The repeat from my past loops was a nice twist.

Loophole Kingdom by MateusBoga 2020-10-07T20:15:08Z

Nice work! The artwork is great, and I think it's wise to make a story focused game when you have art talent like you do.

AudioLoop by Hyohane 2020-10-05T01:19:33Z

I died a lot without knowing why, which was weird, but other than that pretty fun. Nice work!

break by DecadeDecaf 2020-10-05T00:48:30Z

Great work. I enjoyed running to the computer to see what the next addition was.

A couple criticisms:

1. An early upgrade to player speed would be nice, as running all around was a bit slow. 2. A way to modify the computer's code or rearrange things would be awesome. It's what I expected it would be, but I understand the time crunch.

Thanks for the game!

Loop Invader by ZwodahS 2020-10-07T02:10:21Z

Awesome! Love the art style. Congratulations on finishing a compo game!

Tuxedo, watch out for the rock! by Gumemura 2020-10-06T01:10:31Z

Having the eyes look in the direction you're moving was a very nice touch. Good job!

Stranded by Robonaut121 2020-10-07T16:14:11Z

Amazing art and lighting.

I hear you on not having time to complete enough features in the short time span. It's certainly a time crunch. Congratulations on finishing.

Great job!

The Loop by TheVideoGamester 2020-10-05T18:45:02Z

Awesome. I love the idea of multiple endings.

You say not artistically inclined, but I think you did a good job. The color palette is pretty good. Just by thinking about palette is a good step!

Nice work, stick with it.

ZBX 9800 by Jonathanfdr 2020-10-06T01:52:51Z

Love the art style on this. Especially the death animation. Great job.

Loopin' Dungeon by Itskdog 2020-10-05T01:49:04Z

I love the graphics. The movement felt a bit clunky, and wasn't very responsive. It'd be nice to go diagonal and to stop faster.

Nice work!

Pentagon by obizram 2020-10-07T04:07:15Z

Very cool. I like your take on the theme. Congratulations on completing a compo game!

Imperial Eggnog Incorporated by Blue Pin Studio 2020-10-07T04:18:15Z

Love the mirrored visuals in the background. Very atmospheric. Nice work!

Clone Arena by GrizzliusMaximus 2020-10-07T04:17:01Z

Very hectic! A nice, fun game. Good job!

Eternal Run by kovalok 2020-10-05T06:17:17Z

Nice work! I like where you took the theme.

One thought for advice, look into some recommended color palettes, as the colors in the game are pretty dark and run together.

Keep it up!

Trapped On A Sheet by sku11knight 2020-10-05T23:58:06Z

The sounds are nice. Very neat idea doing the notes. Good job.

Sisyphus Beetle Takes His Daughter to Work by pee-thief 2020-10-06T22:05:50Z

Love the mood on this one, as others have also said. The ending got a good laugh out of me too. Nice work!

Convolooption by potatopancakes 2020-10-05T22:52:41Z

Very cool! The visuals are really pleasant, and you did a great job applying the theme.

Danger Beat by rhoff95 2020-10-06T22:12:23Z

Top notch on the art and sound here. Great job on that. Pretty hectic at the end!

I'm also a fan of how responsive the movement feels. It's a nice amount of acceleration and I feel in control, which is really important in this style of game.

Nice work!

Loopfield by MikoziQ 2020-10-06T00:17:48Z

Very cool ambience and mood in this one. Nice job!

You Stuck Bro? by Mridul360 2020-10-07T04:09:08Z

Agreed on aesthetic, it's quite pleasant. I think the colors go really well together which really helps. Nice work!

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-05T01:25:25Z

Thanks @michael-parrish ! It was pretty tough to balance the enemy spawns. Sometimes it was way too easy, and sometimes it was way too difficult. I tried to find a decent middle ground and ramp rate, but I agree it's a bit difficult.

I think me playing it so often, I ended up getting better at it, which made me tune the difficulty up higher than needed.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-05T02:05:32Z

Thanks @irwatts ! Loved your submission to the compo.

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-05T14:50:12Z

@kovalok I did have one other report of the game running at a crazy speed. I haven't been able to reproduce that or determine why it's happening on some computers.

@rhoff95 The WebGL build works, but there's no audio. If I can figure out how to fix that, I'd like to upload the WebGL port.

Thanks everybody for trying the game.

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-05T15:06:34Z

@rhoff95 I do use MP3, I'll try out some different formats. Thanks for the lead.

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-05T16:54:09Z

@rhoff95 Turns out just my music was MP3. Sound effects are WAV and aren't working either. I'll have to keep looking around for why WebGL audio isn't working!

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-05T22:41:40Z

Thanks everybody for the feedback!

@milestone-games and @nexade , I have uploaded a new zip for the MacOS version. Hopefully it works for you now. It is on itch at https://dharby.itch.io/hudson.

Note that the Mac version has a graphical glitch where the border outside of the game canvas is flashing red. It's pretty weird, but the game seems to run on Mac besides that.

Thanks again all!

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-06T00:33:29Z

Thanks @kp-gamedev ! I'd love to get WebGL working. Unfortunately audio doesn't work in the web version so I need to find a fix for that.

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-06T01:38:51Z

Thanks @gumemura ! Those are very kind words.

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-06T20:06:22Z

@rhoff95 and @kp-gamedev I have just published a WebGL version! Audio now works.

Side-note: Using the latest Unity beta for a game jam is risky... The beta has a bug with WebGL audio! Details here: https://issuetracker.unity3d.com/issues/audio-no-longer-plays-in-build

Thanks all.

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-06T22:09:41Z

@rhoff95 Thanks for the feedback! I completely agree. I originally wanted the health bar crack and 'leak' health, and you'd need to repair it. I couldn't fit that into the 48 hour compo though. :(

There are skill thief bugs that will steal the skill gems from your upgrade slots. That was my attempt at having more of the HUD be interactable.

Hopefully with more time I can implement some of these! Thanks for trying the game and providing thoughtful feedback.

P.S. I really enjoyed your submission as well! I'll put my feedback on it.

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-06T22:15:04Z

@rhoff95 I'm considering doing a rebuild of the game using Godot. This version was built with Unity. I want to learn Godot and it seems good to do a side-by-side project comparison.

So I'll still be working on this a bit more, maybe I'll take that opportunity to try out some additional mechanics. :)

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-07T17:25:32Z

Thanks @cursedsoldier ! Glad you managed to beat it. I tried to ramp the difficulty so that your first round or two are pretty tough, but as you learn the mechanics a bit, you get closer to beating it. It's all about sacrificing a bit of health on a push to the skill upgrade! Nice work on the win.

@wormius I'm glad you like the music. It was procedurally generated!

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-07T18:11:09Z

@tamail Thanks for the feedback! I wish I had more time to put a tutorial in-game, but 48 hours was a bit tight. I did add some information to the game's description on the ldjam page to explain a bit.

In short:

- Defend your health bar and skill bar from enemies attacking it. - Keep enemies under control and try not to get overwhelmed. - Collect gems as they drop. Pick them up with F, bring them to your upgrade bar in the bottom left, and press F to place them into an upgrade slot. - Collect all 3 upgrades for a chance to escape through the door.

Hope it helps!

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-07T20:48:27Z

Thanks @meatball !

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-07T20:53:22Z

@wegpast Thank you!

The theme unfortunately didn't show through as I hoped it would, largely due to the time constraints... The closest I got to it was being stuck in a loop of enemy waves spawning, until you can get to the key to escape and break the loop.

But I understand that doesn't come anywhere near the theme level of many other entries. Hopefully my next jam I can nail the theme a bit better!

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-07T21:06:40Z

I'm glad to hear that @jarvisp99 ! Thanks for taking the time to try it.

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-07T22:52:13Z

Thanks for the suggestions @mateusboga ! Really good ideas.

Hudson by Dharby 2020-10-22T15:01:42Z

Thanks @duke . As a compo entry, I didn't quite have enough time to get to in-game tutorials, but I agree it would have helped along with hit feedback!

Robot Rescue by Mike Caputo 2020-10-05T01:29:09Z

I seemed to have run out of battery with not enough scrap to do anything about it. Fun game though! Congratulations on finishing the project, it's a lot of work.

The Bards Tale by CursedSoldier 2020-10-06T01:43:10Z

Looks great! I think the tiling on some of the background could be toned down a bit as it's a bit high contrast and busy, but I like the color palette and general art direction. Great work!

Orbital Loop by Pradhuman 2020-10-07T04:37:43Z

Well done! I like that the controls don't move the planet (player) directly up or down, but at a bit of an angle. It adds a nice twist.

I think the background could maybe use some fading so it's not too busy, but looks good overall.

Great work!

I'm a big fan of stealth-based games. Glad to see an entry like this. Nice work!

Dryad's Quest by Cyborg Studio 2020-10-05T01:37:38Z

Very cool. I like to see point and click games being made. Sometimes the hitbox on the clicks was a little weird though.

Awesome work!

Stuck In A Deck(Web Available) by dadiaogames 2020-10-05T01:15:54Z

I can't understand the first game. I don't see any explanation anywhere. Maybe add that to the Ludum Dare project page?

LoopingAges - LD47 by MorpheusZero 2020-10-05T01:13:30Z
