Wow, I like it! Art is beautiful
Very good idea, and nice artstyle. I like.
A very cute game, which introduces some basic concepts of coding, in a wonderful little package. The character art is to die for (love the wizard so much), love the cheery music, the sound effects are amazing. Tt can be surprisingly hectic, circling around, blasting the slimes - especially once you unlock alt fire. Very fun, well polished, great game
Beautiful and nice concept! :)
Thank you @ellladee @butterbrot @ugly-robot and @pixel-maniacs! Appreciate the kind words.
A pretty nice little game! There's no overarching issues with it in my experience, only small nitpicks I could make about some of its design. But other than that, the game is great and a good fit for the theme.
Art is incredibly charming, especially when combined with the song. Makes for a nice mood and atmosphere for the game. Maybe I didn't understand the computer mechanic all the way, but I wish you could type or pick lines of code to manipulate how the game is played. Maybe this is the direction you were going before you had to leave to get tested. Hope you are well! Impressive game for the time you had!
Great work. I enjoyed running to the computer to see what the next addition was.
A couple criticisms:
1. An early upgrade to player speed would be nice, as running all around was a bit slow. 2. A way to modify the computer's code or rearrange things would be awesome. It's what I expected it would be, but I understand the time crunch.
Thanks for the game!
I love your take on the theme! My only criticism is that I wish the difficulty ramped up a bit more. Great job!
@dharby @zackavelli
It definitely would've been cool to allow you to edit the code in some way. I wanted the game to be as friendly as possible to people unfamiliar with programming, so if I were to expand upon this idea, it would probably be very minor.
My best idea right now is to "group" snippets of code together into disks, and then you would be able to enable or disable each disk within the computer.
Thank you for playing!
@dinoraz @diefleder
Appreciate the feedback! I'm open to hearing any nitpicks, even if they're very minor.
I agree with the criticism that the difficulty doesn't ramp up enough. During development, there were more increases to enemy stats, but I wanted to avoid making the "upgrades" feel unsatisfying, so I replaced them with more interesting things. In retrospect, I should've made the golden enemies harder than the normal ones; I think that would've helped a lot.
Thank you for playing!
Very fun! Pretty simple idea, but very fun to play! I love your art. The music was fun. The mood was good. It was very playable and scaled well!
pretty fun game! it just need a little more juice. also buy things with only one button press would be nice.
the art is very cute. and I love the music too.
Like it actually. Yes it is pretty simple and small, but quite funny to play just because the gameplay is very native.
Additional like for mute hotkey :)
Neat twist on the top-down shooter genre, though I don't think it did anything too radical - the code aspect was just a way to dress up the usual game progression, or so it felt to me. Like others have said above, being able to manipulate the code in some way could've taken the game to really interesting territory.
In any case, I found it enjoyable enough and did finish it. Visuals, audio and overall polish were top notch, really impressive work considering you had to cut the jam short.
I loved this, cute graphics/music and a nice satisfying ramp up of the gameplay. I liked that you made the enemies more dangerous as time went on, but also scaled the number of rewards so it didn't get tedious. Great work!
This was really fun to play on stream! Controls were tight, and the progression was reasonably paced, especially to make that final gag hit. I thought that the use of discs was a clever system to allow the user to slowly but surely increase the difficulty at their own pace. It would have been nice to see said disks be used for allowing the player to customize their experience more, but for what's there, I really appreciate the purpose it holds.
Presentation-wise, I did think the game was bit on the weak side. For starts, I felt the slimes came in a bit too slow, making the initial portion of the game feel pretty long and arduous. Some common polishes, like screenshakes and hit-stops, weren't used in the game, which I thought was a shame. I also think the game could have used more variety in the sound effects department. And I would have liked to see more dialog! The random prop NPCs at the bottom of the level were pretty cute, and I would have liked to see their conversation tree evolve over time.
Still, an enjoyable experience for what's there.
