LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Eternal Run by ping78 2020-10-13T22:23:36Z

Nice job, the graphics are awesome and firing the laser gun felt really satisfying - It was so powerful that the other gun seemed really weak in comparison. Controlling the character felt a bit janky, maybe because strafe movement was so slow compared to forward/back? The enemy gibs were neat but them having collision caused me some trouble, bumping into them killed me a couple of times, not sure if they pushed me or lifted me in the air or what, but I wasn't able to jump and fell to my death : D Impressive work overall

Arcade Legend by Samuli 2020-10-11T21:02:28Z

I think the game was actually a bit long for a jam game. Still, the writing was engaging enough and improving your stats is always addicting, and I finished it :D Nice job

Get Stuck In The Loop by el-pepi 2020-10-11T22:51:09Z

One of my favourites from the Jam so far! Funny interpretation of the theme, fun gameplay, nice audio and graphics. What a shame it had so few levels, I would have loved to play more : D Great work.

Exit Condition: Zero by godsboss 2020-10-12T16:38:38Z

I beat all the levels, but the second to last level was confusing. It clears when one of the beams hits the starting block, even though another beam hits a "zero"-block. From the tutorials it seemed to me that the objective was to have no beams hit a zero.

I also thought it was a bit of a bummer that when selecting an action it highlighted the available blocks - giving a bit too good of a clue to the player on how to beat the level. Though I guess having all the actions available for all blocks would make puzzle design too difficult and time consuming for a jam game.

I enjoyed beating the game though, and the amount of content and the depth of the tutorials was very impressive for a jam game. Good job.

Major TomCat by KOHCEPBA 2020-10-23T09:27:50Z

What the hell, man

I beat it using the walkthrough, i don't think I would've ever figured it out otherwise. Also I almost went deaf from that sound effect.

I liked it though. Always a fan of weird, experimental games.

Gorilla Power by Jiri Hysek 2020-10-05T00:24:16Z

Platforming was ok, running into guards to kill them felt satisfying. But having to hit shift all the time got old fast. I beat the game so I realize there was a point to it, but it could've been done in a better way for sure.

Under The Moon by Albuquerque 2020-10-05T02:44:15Z

Very nice. It took me a few deaths but I did manage to beat it. Gameplay was kind of cryptic but thats fitting I suppose lol. Graphics are top quality for a jam game! The one big problem here is that sound is very important for a game like this. Nice job overall!

Tunnel Racer by Killian 2020-10-05T22:06:31Z

Easy and repetitive, I got bored before I crashed once. I think if the game sped up gradually and kept some kind of score, it would have added a lot. But the amazing graphics made up for it, and the way the ship controlled felt nice and tight. Good job overall.

Plasma by Hakro 2020-10-04T23:46:02Z

Neat synthesis, playing pong while playing space invanders! Very imaginative, I liked it even though it got repetitive kinda quickly.

Synthætica by ixchow 2020-10-05T01:17:27Z

Really imaginative idea. Only thing that bothered me was having to wait for the camera when trying to go fast, but the lenght of the game of course has to match the lenght of the tracks so not sure how I'd change it. Last key was tricky, but in the end I managed to grab it. I enjoyed the game a lot, haven't played many products of this jam yet but this is easily my favourite so far! break by DecadeDecaf 2020-10-12T15:52:48Z

Neat twist on the top-down shooter genre, though I don't think it did anything too radical - the code aspect was just a way to dress up the usual game progression, or so it felt to me. Like others have said above, being able to manipulate the code in some way could've taken the game to really interesting territory.

In any case, I found it enjoyable enough and did finish it. Visuals, audio and overall polish were top notch, really impressive work considering you had to cut the jam short.

Singularity by nsadie 2020-10-23T11:01:07Z

Well done! A strategy board game isn't easy to design, let alone in the space of a jam, but you managed to pull it off. Sometimes I felt I was at the mercy of luck of the draw (In particular when trying to get those last cards to reach the goal), but there was always a best choice to find. Most of the time it was actually interesting to consider what card to use, what you want to use after, and what the opponent is likely to pick.

Like others have said, this really has some potential to be expanded into a proper game, adding some new rules (perhaps in later levels) to keep up the challenge, and make the optimal choice a bit more difficult to figure out.

Really impressive entry overall

BrewBrew by aressler38 2020-10-12T16:56:01Z

Neat idea to make a board game. I felt it was quite slow to start, and I didn't make my first brew until day 50 or so. But thats because I didn't know what I should be buying and wasted my money : D I think a good way to offset the randomness (and to help clueless players like me get back to their feet) would be to have a monopoly-like system where you get, say, one of each equipment and ingredient, or a cash bonus, every time you make a full lap around the board.

Die with the spikes by JaviCoder 2020-10-21T13:30:24Z

The spikes startled me the first time I died : D There wasn't much to the game itself but the audio and graphics were nice. The camera pan in the intro was a neat touch, but the one after dying felt pretty wonky. Having the camera just jump back to the starting position would probably have worked better. Nice work overall!

Oscillator Panic by tjm 2020-10-23T10:39:38Z

Really neat idea to incorporate Game of Life in this way! Complex patterns arising from simple rules - a point this game demonstrates nicely, since even though I knew the rules I had to rely on trial and error a lot : D

Still, a very creative fusion, enjoyed playing it despite not doing very well.

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

This Mortal Coil by Baconinvader 2022-04-05T20:33:23Z

Very interesting take on a bullet hell! I ended up playing a few games and got 536125 points with a time of 573 on my last attempt. Some thoughts: - On my first few games I was often confused as to what hit me, until I figured out the appearing flames and the tails on the purple projectiles. Maybe those could be clearer somehow? - The sides of the screen seemed like very dangerous places to be with the screen-width beams spawning right on top of you. It felt a bit bad to lose my multiplier to something that's so random. - The clocks giving a (seemingly)random amount of extra time felt a bit strange as well. - I would've liked to be able to keep moving by holding down a direction. Though I can also see why you'd have it the way it is. Overall I found the game enjoyable and novel, good work!

Board to DEATH by nsadie 2022-04-05T15:55:05Z

Outstanding work! Wonderful graphics and a great game concept. I found the puzzles to be on the easy side and wished that reset would work instantly instead of having to sit through the animation. The rules also weren't 100% clear, had to find out through trial and error that enemy pieces only capture once. But those are pretty minor flaws and the idea and execution are both superb here. Good luck with the ratings I feel that you'll do very well!

Hyper Kremlin Bros. II Tournament Edition by Samps 2022-04-07T11:46:06Z

@skleembof Thanks for the thorough feedback. Showing a preview on mouse over is an interesting proposal. I felt at first it would make the game too easy, but of course there's more to consider in the game than just the immediate results of a move. If we were to make the game again we'd probably at least give the tiles clearer borders, to help in visualizing what the result of a move would be.

About ready-made levels vs. endless mode - making and designing levels is of course a big time sink, it's time that we decided to spend on polishing the game this time around. And such a concept would definitely work better in a game about making a path rather than blocking it. Also, having the game be about surviving as long as possible was just too good of a fit for the theme - Moaning about the theme is a certified Ludum Dare classic, but I truly feel the theme was particularly bad this time around for how much it constrains design.

Thanks again for the thought-out comment and honest feedback.

TAILGUNNER by Metzkermeister 2022-04-06T10:23:01Z

Running out of ammo and being permanently stuck in an up-down limbo I found a bit weird. Also, for a bit of unsolicited advice, I think the bullets and rockets would look better if they were a lot bigger, and it would also improve clarity of the game. I found that kind of visual feedback to be a bit lacking in the game, it could definitely be more dramatic! Anyway, being clearly new to making games you did a great job, the audio and the pixel art were both excellent.
