the game wouldnt load for me, i tried a few different browsers, if all else fails, you can upload it to itch.io for free

aressler38 2020-10-05 00:13

Thanks. I just updated the link.

literally-void 2020-10-05 00:27

I think the game's private on itch.io.

aressler38 2020-10-05 00:31

Ah it was private. OK I figured out how to make it public.

I'm good at drinking beer but not so good and brewing it! I spent ~40 days in and could never buy enough resources to make beer. I enjoy hearing it growl at me when I try to do things I can't though :)

- Not having brewing experience, not having all the relevant info for receipts available when at the shop/etc made it a pain to figure out what you might want to purchase. - the "you can't do that" sound is really annoying, would be nicer to just have the option greyed out/disabled, perhaps with something telling you what you need to be able to do the option. - There wasn't any clear reason for the dice roll, unless it had to do with stuff only staying on the board for so many turns, you always stopped at the shop, recipe place, and sell space. - It would have been nice to be able to craft something before 10ish laps around the track (this may go back to the first point of understanding what you need/don't need).

Neat idea. I made a mistake and went on a shopping spree my first time around and then it took around 30 more days before I was able to get a keg to actually make the beer!

GOTY

It's a drinking game - get it?

The audio was very loud and sharp. I would recommend putting on headphones to test it before shipping. A technique to make sure the loudness levels are correct is to take a popular very well produced song. I like to use Despacito, you can use Bohemian Rhapsody. Maybe some even crappy music would have taken the edge away from these sound effects that felt like they were punching my ears. As far as gameplay goes in a board game, I was a bit confused because my inventory was in pictures, but the store had textual item names. That's about as far as I was comfortable exploring in the game. I think it could be a cool board game if you fix some of the rough edges. Thank you for the game.

This was an interesting game! I unfortunately seemed to get a bit unlucky where by day 80 I had almost 10 of every brewing equipment except no coolers were appearing and cost more than my beers would gain me when sold. Since there is a lot of rolling in this game I think it would be nice to have a hotkey for it as well as to leave dialogue. Overall though I like the mechanic of collecting the various beer recipes and it is a nice premise.

A tabletop game about brewing, I get the idea and the initial system is cool, this type of stuff is cool but hard to acomplish for a jam (trust me I went on a similar route on on ld 46). I bet you learned a lot a bout inventroy/crafting systems!

Neat idea to make a board game. I felt it was quite slow to start, and I didn't make my first brew until day 50 or so. But thats because I didn't know what I should be buying and wasted my money : D I think a good way to offset the randomness (and to help clueless players like me get back to their feet) would be to have a monopoly-like system where you get, say, one of each equipment and ingredient, or a cash bonus, every time you make a full lap around the board.

This game was okay. But it was very difficult to be able to brew beer. I'd recommend having a simple starter recipe so that players can start doing the seller aspect sooner. Otherwise it is just a grind, but I suppose it does help with the "stuck in a loop" theme. This is a good idea and I haven't yet seen something that felt more like a board game in this jam. So good job on that, just a few tweaks and I think you'll have something good here. Also the "hungover" sound effect made me laugh.

gwinnell 2020-10-16 16:19

I think I had some bad luck with the random generation. I didn't find any recipes for at least a few loops, and the first recipe I found required many many ingredients. I would suggest starting with smaller/easier recipes nearer the beginning of the game and ramping them up as you go further for a better player progression. Maybe also stop some of the items from being purchasable in the beginning too as others have said they spent money on the wrong things. Probably shouldn't let that happen!

Well done, I wouldnt even know how to begin to code a game like this in Unity (or at all)

healthire 2020-10-26 20:17

Board game idea is an interesting take on the theme. I seemed to spend most of my time just pressing roll waiting for equipment to brew. And when I managed to make a keg of pale ale it sold for less money than I spent on the malt and hops.
