Cool game! The art is nice and polished looking.

xenon27 2020-10-05 02:35

very good artwork! it was fun to play, even though I did die randomly before I finished (I think, couldn't really tell if I had finished or not)

samps 2020-10-05 02:44

Very nice. It took me a few deaths but I did manage to beat it. Gameplay was kind of cryptic but thats fitting I suppose lol. Graphics are top quality for a jam game! The one big problem here is that sound is very important for a game like this. Nice job overall!

justuspan 2020-10-05 06:09

The concept is concise and very cool. When I noticed the moon face first time, it surprised me and make the atomsphere more mysterious. Although it has BGM, I can still feelling the mood. Looping level + replay fits the jam theme very well.Good job!

dunderroffe 2020-10-05 06:25

Really cool :) Nice mood and graphics! Also really easy to get going with how to control the game. This is rare in COMPO games.

adroitconceptions 2020-10-05 11:27

- great art work - i liked how the moon was changing - really needs some sounds/music - I found the controls a but frustrating (everything on the one hand) - after the moon started changing, it wasn't 100% clear if it was a timer or just game state changing (clearly on death it was a timer) - the looping worked well - the movement mechanics could have used a bit of help (having to jump to go up stairs for example)

demure 2020-10-05 12:33

That moon change scared me when it came out of nowhere! I thought time would be tied to the loops but it seems it's tied to the moon, sometimes I was waiting for a bit for the shop to open for example when on further playthroughs I tried to speed things up. Great graphics! Could really use with some gloomy music. Nice job!

luis-oliveiras 2020-10-05 15:22

Great game! Beautiful artwork, the controls are easy to learn, the feedback, it's really well polished!

Nice work!

dadiaogames 2020-10-05 15:34

Nice submission with an awesome artwork!

zimny11 2020-10-05 17:05

The art style is amazing! Well done! Only the music is missing, but I understand, limited time :) Also, the moon has changed, my brain chuckles "I'm in danger!" :)

donamougou 2020-10-05 20:08

Cool game ! I love the mood and the lovecraftian universe. Controls are a bit tricky in my opinion ! Will play it again till I reach the end !!

cnewt 2020-10-05 21:33

The artwork is amazing! It was really cool how everything seemed to come together at the end. I was like "oh that's what he's talking about" or "oh that's where it goes." It was a close race at the end for me too but I managed to beat it. I really like this game!

tedbuke 2020-10-05 21:56

It's fantastic, good job

gilazarini 2020-10-06 00:14

Beautiful artwork, the moon and the cultist are awesome.

gilgom 2020-10-06 00:18

Loved it!!! The art is really cool!

magnusfurcifer 2020-10-06 01:37

The moon phases were very cool. Took me a couple tries to get it done but I got there. Nice entry.

nobleboy 2020-10-06 01:39

Man that took a lot of tries to get right.

Great looking game! Could've looked absolutely stellar with some animations and more detailed environments.

ukulelefury 2020-10-06 03:05

:) The moon face was excellent. I reeeeeally liked how you gradually become aware that it's actually getting closer and you're under a deadline! The exploring was fun, but it was a little frustrating how many times I had to loop all the way around the level because I missed the thing I was supposed to pick up (I guess that helps with the looping theme!). Definitely could use some audio. Fun art for sure.

sharkwithlasers 2020-10-06 03:13

Great take on the "Stuck in a Loop" theme and great artwork! That moon especially!

zwodahs 2020-10-06 03:38

Great graphics and execution.

Took me a lot of tries to get what I am suppose to do and the timing is really tight.

Having multiple endings rather than a single forced endings might make it better. Like for example, instead of "death", perhaps if you sacrifice the infant wrongly, you get a different ending from the real one. Put a ending unlocks at the menu will allow us to play around more to find other endings, and eventually the main ending.

Overall I really enjoy it and thanks for the game !

worblir 2020-10-06 04:47

Nice job! Creative take on the theme and solid integration with the storyline as well. It was a little awkward at some parts with the platforming like with the stairs, but it wasn't too big of a deal. Good work!

coryru 2020-10-06 04:50

That MOON is terrifying! I cant wait for you to add audio I think it will really tie the whole game together. Well done!

antaresvaldemar 2020-10-06 06:47

Superb visuals, and nice level design, I like how you go around the area in a circular fashion which is I assume how you interpreted the loop theme. I wish the game had some audio, even a simple bgm, having said that you managed to create a lot of atmosphere without it which is impressive. That moon certainly is terrifying, and when I saw that guy had disappeared I actually was shocked haha. Great work!

kodepo 2020-10-06 07:02

I really enjoyed the consistent world and exploring the story. One thing that I would have changed was the collider of the stairs to be a ramp. But all in all good work!

fax 2020-10-06 07:37

Good job. I would appreciate a AZERTY version but it works. Graphics are nice and story is fine. Really good entry.

chickencastle 2020-10-06 09:33

Nice one! really liked the art work, in particular the moon

namnam 2020-10-06 09:59

The good points : -Art is cute and well executed -Mood is cool - I liked the moon moving and changing, it give us a feel of urge - The control of the character are okay.

The bad points : -No sound or music, it would improve the mood by so much - Stares are awful - I didn't get how to trigger the event, have i just to wait the good moon phase ? Or to redo the level to make it loop. Anyway it kind's of frustrating and doesn't work well with the feeling of urge.

bukkaketears 2020-10-06 11:35

I'm wondering, because I have this strange feeling, that the story is highly inspired by Bloodborne, am I right?

Cool spelunky like graphics, but it lacks background. Mood would be perfect with proper sound. Right now game seems unfinished, but with huuuge potential. Anyway, congratz on posting something to ld!

rewzu 2020-10-06 13:12

Great entry! Neat art style and nice mood. Controls and stairs could be improved a bit. Nice work!

ds-nahogara 2020-10-06 13:49

Fantastic game! Art is very good, and the manage of time on this game is very important, i had to manage myself to understand what to do and who to talk, it lacks sound, i assume with sound and ambience the moon would be even more terryfing, however awesome game!

bereg 2020-10-06 15:37

The art is cool and the plot is interesting. I enjoyed playing the game. Great job!

tyrael 2020-10-06 17:06

Unfortunately no audio. The controls didnt feel very nice. I also prefer Jumping with Space . The art looked awesome. The main char reminded me of Spelunky

dario-sanchez 2020-10-06 17:58

Cool game with a nice little history! I liked the cute art and the simple yet somewhat challenging mechanics.

neragoth 2020-10-06 19:41

The atmosphere and the drawings are excellent! But I admit I felt a bit frustrated by the huge size of the area. It is a detail but if you densify the interactions in the given space to explore, it will kill the repetitiveness :).

milmalissa 2020-10-06 19:43

Really nice game! I really enjoyed it playing

madbookstudios 2020-10-06 19:52

The Lovecraftian theme is awesome, I really enjoyed it! Such mystery too, I liked how the events in the game were time dependent. The art was also very nice - I liked the player character a lot, he reminded me of the character from spelunky! Awesome stuff!

yeti-kid 2020-10-06 20:13

Really cool game with lore built in! The character is a lot like the spelunky character. Great job well made and would of loved some music and SFX to go with!

tomatolamp 2020-10-06 20:32

Awesome sprite work and story-telling; you created an excellent atmosphere out of some rather cute sprites!

I do wish the stairs were all just ramps though, as others have mentioned it gets a little tedious running loops through the environment, but I'm sure you had a lot on your plate. Great work for a solo jam!

dk5000p 2020-10-06 21:24

The art is great. I guess there is a win state but I keep losing just before making it. Shift to run doesn't seem to do anything. This really needed some eerie ominous music.

milestone-games 2020-10-06 21:34

Amazing artwork, I really liked the style. I liked how the moon got progressively more scary! If you were to develop it further I'd suggest adding some more interactive elements, perhaps traps? Great work!

twilight-world 2020-10-06 22:44

Amazing! I love the dialogue.

remzo 2020-10-07 07:56

As others have said, the moon is great! Very Majora's Mask. Also the character looks a bit like Spelunky. Cool game! Managed to complete it in my first attempt though the level design is also very loopy. Nice one!

takabro 2020-10-07 12:38

I'm impressed that you made it in COMPO! - Good visuals - Solid gameplay, - Okay controls, although I didn't see the need to stop sprinting. - Very good mood, specially regarding the Moon's lovecraftian vibe!

One suggestion for a possible future update: make more clear to the player how to trigger the NPC's events, it's a bit frustrating to not work everytime you need. Or don't, leave it mysterious if that's the intention.

As a whole, a well made COMPO game! Congratulations

eldelhas 2020-10-07 13:09

Great job, the art is nice, Lovecraft style story is here, really nice for a jam game, everything works well ! Since you are alone special contratz for it ! I can't complain about it, but some sounds would have been perfect for the atmosphere !! great job again !

tommy 2020-10-07 17:55

Nice game! I loved the twists of seeing some details in the world change each time you come back to the starting point. Only one little drawback: while the art assets are pretty cool, the game world itself feels a bit empty, expecially in some parts; also the lack of music and sound effects probably contributes to this. A part from this, tough, good entry!

tamail 2020-10-07 20:03

This was such a nice experience! I got all the story and context I needed in just a few sentences, the map was clear so I wasn't frustrated by it, the time ticking shown in the movement of the moon was a) clear, b) amazingly done... This was a really good game!

noakishere 2020-10-07 20:12

Really cool game. I really enjoyed my playthrough. You add some music and improve the graphics and youll have yourself a great game. Bravo ! :)

eugenik 2020-10-09 02:03

That's why we do Ludum, for this kind of game :D

bredera 2020-10-09 08:33

Really cool little game , I really liked the character art. The story was also interesting and a bit dark loved that! Good entry overall

arad-hamidsamiee 2020-10-09 18:40

Nice sprites, needs a bit polishing but the game is fun and engaging.

erlioniel 2020-10-10 10:46

I like it actually. Nice art style and the idea is working. But I kinda thinking that the idea is to linear for this theme.

Hovewer I do respect the result for single person and so small amount of time. Well done, mate

lelulagames 2020-10-10 16:46

The face was half way across the moon before I realized it was there, and the sky was changing color. Upped the creepy factor by quiet a bit.

sophiemae0 2020-10-11 03:29

Wow this is a gorgeous piece of art! I am so blown away by the graphics. Using the moon as a timer is very clever way to have the time in-game. It also reminds me a lot of Majora's Mask in the best possible way. Great job :)

antti-haavikko 2020-10-12 17:14

Pretty nice art! Very spelunkyish main character. And the other characters looked good too. Simple yet quite effective "walking animation". Could have done the similar treatment for idle and jumping too. Now jumping with the walk animation playing just looked goofy and the idle looked too static. The environment looked kinda bland to everything else in comparison. They could have used even just a little bit more details rather than just being solid color rectangles. The game had already a nice moody vibe which could have been improved even further by adding some sounds and a moody piece of music.

Managed to snag a win on my third try.

Screenshot 2020-10-12 at 19.51.57.png

Really find it weird choice and kinda annoying too that the game was pretty much just on a timer. You had to rush because being too slow meant the death. But then on the other hand, timed game events really lock you from progressing. Things like shop opening, sand falling (sure, you could glitch out the physics and do real high jumps to bypass this) and sacrifice starting. And my final run I was fast enough that I had to wait for store opening for at least a minute or so.

And if you're playing the way I think is intended, so just loop around the world and see events unfold, the timing of the end bits is way too strict. Even waiting for the baby to spawn at the altar and having a good guess on what to do with it, it still seemed like there wasn't too much time left.

I think a way better option would have been to trigger each event on a new loop instead of just timers. And maybe do something to kinda force the looping too like the initial key grab. Then you could also play a bit slower and enjoy the npc chats and so on. Rushing through didn't really fit the game theme wise.

Controls didn't feel great either. The jump was floaty and was quite easy to glitch the physics on the stairs. And the stairs were bad too. You pretty much had to either keep jumping (and eventually end up with those immersion breaking physics glitches) or to that sweet spot jump holding to levitate up the stairs which obviously also broke any final bits of immersion. I also think it was unnecessary to have running, without any downside it should be always on. And having talking and other interactions (carry/drop) on different keys felt pointless too. I personally am not one of these "up to jump" tribe people and would have loved to see a separate jump button. I always kept hitting space while going for jumps and then dropped what ever I was holding.

But yeeah, good job! Nice art which could be taken to a whole new level with some further additional polish and a a solid gameplay loop which could also quite easily be perfected.

eldar 2020-10-13 06:44

I had some complaints about the timing of events, and how nothing is really carried over from loop to loop - but @antti-haavikko right above me seems to do a better job of describing these things. People also seemed to have called out the lack of music - this type of game really needs some music to maintain the atmosphere.

One critique I would add is how you return to the tutorial screen (the one with WASD written on the floor) during every playthrough; it feels like this screen shouldn't really show up after the first time we traverse it.

These things aside, the art is beautiful (yes, that moon creeped me out too), and I was excited to finish the game and fend off the eldritch horror :)

frankarlovic 2020-10-13 13:50

A Lovcraftian mood and style is hard to achieve, I's amazing what you managed to do in such a short amount of time. One big complaint that I have is that there is no progression. Looping just doesn't seem to fit in such a story-driven game.

flying-basement-studios 2020-10-15 21:24

very nice graphics, it's a pity that there was no time left for sounds and music, while playing we found the bug - getting stuck in one place - see attachmentLD.png

lesinvisible 2020-10-19 11:35

Nice work! I liked the story and I would like to enjoy it in a slower pace.

onkel-mo 2020-10-23 05:56

A nice game :). The artwork is beautiful, the story is cute, the changing moon gives a feeling of dread, and you have juuuuust enough time to beat the game. I would have wished the controls would have been snappier (especially the jumps were kinda hard to control), and havin W for jump and space for pickup/drop really confused me. And it's really a pity you couldn't add sounds and/or music, as it really would have helped the mood. A great entry nontheless!
