LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Debugger by wdebowicz 2020-10-06T19:53:21Z

I *love* that you play as a cursor - the trails emulating a "highlight" are really clever too! The platforming feels great and the aesthetic is very well done.

Some "some programmer humor" comments sprinkled through-out and maybe more PC-esque sfx would help tie it together, but the zany music and shifting text are already really fun elements.

Only real "issue" I found was that you could just cling to the walls indefinitely and tap space/w to climb way faster than the red bar can get you. Also, at the very top of the script, I failed by getting pushed to the other side of the wall and falling back down - not sure if there's a completion screen anyway tho.

Time Raider by Almax 2020-10-07T19:43:52Z

Very brutal but satisfying! The movement and presentation is well-crafted and engaging - talented team!

Toucan's Revenge by AfroAnt 2020-10-06T04:50:13Z

Absolutely adored this game. The music and art create a unique and engaging atmosphere that made me want to keep going.

It's a great little proof of concept that could be developed into a bigger project!

Dog Go Bark by Snowdrama 2020-10-06T20:18:50Z

I got stumped on 6/10 bones - I really want to complete it but I must be missing something, I'll have to come back and give it another shot! Overall it was very compelling and incredibly wholesome (up until I started chucking balls at squirrels). It's already nailing those gameboy vibes and I'd definitely revisit it if there are any plans to add audio.

Based on your comments, I can see how the systems were meant to shape up. As is, I'd do away with the curfew (but leave the returning home at low health animation because it's fantastic (maybe add a skip tho)) - I didn't mind the timer until I got stuck and then it quickly got in the way of an otherwise adorable experience.

A similar speed route/memorization issue led me to completely scrap my original idea - but I guess that's the fun of a theme. Whether you stick to it or have to compromise it - it can force you to adapt outside of your comfort zone.

Loop Factory by Nitero 2020-10-07T20:51:47Z

Such a tight, polished, little game and an adorable robot!

In a release build, it might be nice to have a skippable demonstration of the starting pattern at the start of each level - just to help wrap your head around the current loop.

Roundabout Way by Quandtm 2020-10-06T19:38:49Z

Such a well constructed, polished, jam game and it has my favorite gameover screen so far!

Cattle Ropin' by nandelind 2020-10-07T18:26:13Z

A great little game - reminds me a lot of something you'd find in an old Game & Watch/Warioware minigame.

I found it almost impossible until I learned two tricks: aim by the shadow of the loop and, less obviously, you don't need to click & drag in one quick swoop. Slowly "charging" the throw and lining up your shot is still challenging but much more manageable. Not disclosing those to the player makes it have even more in common with those old games, but might turn away people who don't get why they're so bad  Great work!

Free Hamster by Hozoku 2020-10-07T20:00:31Z

It was really fun to try and improve while also just smashing through different obstacles despite the controls feeling a little unpredictable.

The graphics team did a great job and that hamster-in-a-ball is absolutely adorable!

Under The Moon by Albuquerque 2020-10-06T20:32:11Z

Awesome sprite work and story-telling; you created an excellent atmosphere out of some rather cute sprites!

I do wish the stairs were all just ramps though, as others have mentioned it gets a little tedious running loops through the environment, but I'm sure you had a lot on your plate. Great work for a solo jam!

Hall of Repeat by Monkosum 2020-10-06T19:33:24Z

It's smooth, simple, and a joy to play. It's a genre we all know, but something about the simple shapes, punchy sounds, and slow/large bullets make for a really satisfying experience. I haven't beaten it yet, but I keep coming back for more!

HONK II by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2020-10-07T20:08:15Z

I thought I had rated this already, but I came back to play it again and realized I hadn't. I think the fact that I came back speaks for itself. Great game, incredibly polished, amazing product out of a jam!

Lily Pad Drifters by bernard-bumblebutt 2020-10-08T14:49:32Z

Found this game to be incredibly charming and addicting for such as simple concept. Want to echo that this feels like it has the potential to be a successful mobile game!

My only real issue was in the first level - it seems your flies spawn pretty much at random, so I had a couple attempts where very few flies came within the reach of the lilypads.

Coalescence: Battle System Prototype by Seth Tal 2020-10-06T05:06:42Z

I'm a big fan of this kind of "active battle system" - lots of potential here for a bigger endeavor. It reminds me vaguely of battling in the original Digimon World (psx) - you just cheer on your Digimon with buffs while it beats on enemies. Very charming for a battle system prototype!

Coalescence: Battle System Prototype by Seth Tal 2020-10-06T05:17:14Z

@seth-tal That's awesome! Oh man, DS rpgs...some of those battle systems are really creative and criminally overlooked. Lots of great game mechanics from the past just waiting to be put to use!

Core Guard by TomatoLamp 2020-10-06T14:24:38Z

Thank you so much for all of your feedback, everyone.

@seth-tal That's great to hear! It's certainly got a bit of a unique feel to it, so my main goal was just making it feel somewhat manageable at the various speeds. But, if you get the speed going all the way, it still gets a little bit nauseating!

Core Guard by TomatoLamp 2020-10-07T14:55:27Z

@valentin-roche @fractalsunrise @666savior

All valid points - I wish I had given myself enough time to work on the graphics and add particles/etc. I'll definitely update a postjam build with your feedback in mind!

Thanks a ton for playing - excited to check out your projects tonight!

Core Guard by TomatoLamp 2020-10-08T13:10:14Z

@tricky-fat-cat

Absolutely agree, all things on my list that I just didn't get to.

Thanks a ton for playing!

Core Guard by TomatoLamp 2020-10-10T15:57:37Z

@justcamh Awesome! It was really neat watching you work through it and you brought my attention to a few other issues with the game loop. Mainly that the "messages" weren't incredibly coherent. The goal was to destroy as many enemies as possible but the entry description made it sound time-based (I've updated this).

Playing it the way you did felt a lot more slow and meandering because your goal (length of survival) wasn't accelerating the speed of the game. An easy fix for this would just be a timer that increases the difficulty even if you don't grab a healing item.

The only thing you didn't quite catch was that there *is* a button to flip directions and shoot outside of the ring, which you wished for a few times. Though it's easy to miss things like this when we're playing so many projects in such a short time!

Thanks a ton for playing - I've followed you on twitch and I'm excited to check out your games as well!

Core Guard by TomatoLamp 2020-10-12T05:36:57Z

@olima @galpashitaka12 Thanks for taking the time to play and your feedback!

The music and some of the sounds were done by a friend for a different jam game that never saw the light of day - he'll be happy to hear that you liked them!

LOOPLLET HELL by Bicheste 2020-10-06T04:09:12Z

Everything about the presentation and feel of the game is incredibly solid! I absolutely adore the old school style complete with the announcer; that rewind effect also helps bring together the "time"/wristwatch/loop themes - great work!

I agree with the comments about autofire - I do love tapping as fast as I can, but the machine gun became a blessing

Hamster Happiness by shosanna 2020-10-06T05:13:17Z

Just absolutely adorable. Is it weird that I was scared of losing? Like...can you run the hamster to death? I'm not sure I wanna know. Love the style and vibe - oozes charm

Caught in the Sheriff's Loop by Kassie Kitsune 2020-10-06T05:00:14Z

The points listed before are all valid, but I wanted to add that the art-style and vibe of this game are absolutely spot-on. Add a western chiptune and some snappier gameplay and you've got something special here!

Interstellar Roundabout by sparrow-lynn 2020-10-06T04:25:02Z

Great use of the theme and, while I wasn't particularly thrilled about the idea of a traffic roundabout, you made it feel like a daring adventure. The car handles really well for the gameplay objectives, letting you feel comfortable to make quick maneuvers but it's still clearly your fault when things go awry - plus the fender-benders were always kind of satisfying to see.

Fröggo by Loren Heubert-Aubry 2020-10-06T19:23:48Z

I died so much that I won - I kinda love it. From roadkill to king - the changing soundtrack is fantastic and ties in nicely with the sense of humor and art style.

It's definitely hard to feel out the colliders for those sprites and, occasionally, I seemed to jump off of nothing instead of dying in the lava - but it was a fun experience that I wanted to see to the end! I'll definitely be showing it some friends to see their reactions

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Onigiri Mining Corporation by wasd 2021-04-28T19:30:22Z

Great presentation and humor; I think it might have benefited from some type of enemy/obstacle to knock you around (or maybe fake Onigiri blocks to dig up) but the story and humor really carried it regardless! Very fun and fresh approach to the jam, nice work!

Deep-fry Deeper by Ithildin 2021-04-28T19:52:21Z

A perfect little minigame and a great concept for staying in the scope of a jam. As others have said, that fast chocolate pour is maybe too fast lol but it did keep me trying again and again to get a perfect batch! Fantastic work!

shaftception by testudor 2021-04-28T19:18:37Z

A lot of feedback already and I agree with most of it. The presentation, music, graphics, etc. are all very polished but the UI/level design maybe leaves a little to be desired. It's hard to see whats ahead and some of the obstacles/split-paths happen immediately after a boost-wall so, if you're on the wrong side when you boost, you will always fail - meaning the gameplay comes down to just memorizing the current "checkpoint."

That being said, it works pretty well as a memorization/speed running game and I had a good time with it! Nice work!

Acheron's Gambit by zarthas 2021-04-27T21:11:52Z

One of my favorite games of the jam so far! The presentation is fantastic and the combat is really engaging even against individual enemies. My one small complaint would be that having to wait for the animation to finish before pressing the corresponding attack button again is a bit hard to feel out in the middle of combat but it does create a nice rhythm for alternating left and right attacks. Awesome entry!

Bug note: I had one crash - it was on the respawn screen with one soul remaining.

Deep BO-12 by themorfeus 2021-04-28T21:27:00Z

I'm very impressed - a 3D game with a grapple hook for a gamejam is no small undertaking but this a fun and clean idea that works! I agree with others about the ammo capacity being a bit low but it was frantic and kept me moving about at least. Nice work!

Depths of Slumber by Snowdrama 2021-04-30T17:48:59Z

As has been said, the music and vibes are really great and combined with being chased by your own gliding movements, it has a sort of haunting feeling that made me want to keep going deeper. More obstacle variety and some sort of indicator towards the end portal would go a long way towards completing the package, but it's a jam and I had a good time with it - short and sweet!

Anglerfish Feeding Frenzy by js_ 2021-04-27T18:38:29Z

A very solid concept and well-built for speed-runs! I would have liked a visual counter on the number of dashes you have before the cooldown (3, I think?) but it was easy to feel out and satisfying to lure fish into a row and take out a big chunk at once - nice work!

No sun by Croosle 2021-04-28T19:45:49Z

I like the atmosphere and vibes quite a bit - the level design leans into the gameplay mechanics in the right ways, however, I do think some kind of checkpoint system would be nice; it's pretty unforgiving as is.

It would feel less frustrating if there was a dodge or crouch that helped you avoid the enemy projectile attacks but right now they happen in very narrow quarters and sometimes you just get really unlucky with no way to move out of the way - especially with the one right next to the spikes.

Nice work getting a solid platformer together in such a short time - can't wait to see what you do next!

Abyss by Nomppie 2021-04-27T19:07:43Z

Very chunky and satisfying and I really like the character designs! More enemy variety would have been great (I saw only three or so of the bats enemies across multiple runs) but it's a very solid package of a jam game - well done or "Nice!" ;)

Bug note: sometimes when restarting the black fade would come back and immediately hide the screen and I'd have to reload the game.

20.000 LIGHT YEARS deep in THE SKY by Arivenzys 2021-04-27T19:37:19Z

Agree with everything said, a fantastic entry!

Catlantis by fabula_rasa 2021-04-28T21:03:33Z

Really strong entry! I love the underwater vibes and feel of the movement - it reminds me a lot of the classic Echo the Dolphin. I think my only real complaint is it feels like the air bubbles could maybe just completely refill your oxygen immediately - there didn't seem to be much purpose to the slow refill outside of making us wait.

ONI by Daniel Whittaker 2021-04-28T20:28:27Z

Really liked the atmosphere and the puzzle solving aspect of the game. Unfortunately, the combination of really sensitive mouselook, slow move speed, and flashing lights kind of made me a little nauseous towards the end.

I can tell you put a good amount of effort into crafting the story and it really feels like its on the right track - reminded me a good deal of the game "Ether One." Nice job!

Screw it by Jasuse 2021-04-28T20:47:31Z

Very nice presentation - it has all of the makings of a WarioWare minigame and just the right level of sadism, lol.

I agree with @fraukauz about the pointer and scoring systems but aside from that it's a clean, polished, package - great work team!

Kibble Caper by TomatoLamp 2021-04-27T22:53:37Z

@glitchman That's totally fair, I ran out of time for the story/tutorial stuff.

@matif100 Yeah, he's a bit of a thick boy, haha.

Thanks for playing everyone; I'll be checking out all of your games as well!

I was trying to capture the feeling of something like Ape Escape where you really only get one clumsy shot to get the enemy before they scurry. I definitely recommend letting the rats come to a rest and quickly sneaking up from behind or in grass for the easiest catches.

Kibble Caper by TomatoLamp 2021-04-27T23:51:26Z

@fabula-rasa I just fixed this, I apologize but thank you for sticking with it! :D

Prospector Paranoia by Kovi 2021-04-28T20:05:25Z

Fully agree with @the-neon-shark, you've got a great foundation here and accomplished a lot during the compo - just some work tightening the core-gameplay loop would go a long way towards player engagement.

I hope you can have fun using this project as a post-jam testing ground for those bigger ideas you didn't get to! Nice work!

Awfully Good Pizza by beahives 2021-04-28T21:17:20Z

Show this game to anyone who thinks games aren't art and move over Townscaper, we're making pizzas now!

image_2021-04-28_161549.png

Hilarious concept and amazing art - very little to say here except great work everyone!

Not Really Righting Reflex by MahayBandit 2021-04-27T18:27:50Z

Adorable! I really like the sprites and it is a very clean/straightforward concept! The music stopped playing early on unfortunately and I maybe would have liked to see it ramp up in difficulty but it's a solid game. Also, we both made cute, "retro" cat games :D

Descending the Abandoned Mine by RoCap 2021-05-12T18:34:46Z

There's a good foundation here! Like others have said, more feedback on hits/cooldown and reasons to engage enemies would go a long way. Maybe enemies could drop hearts when defeated?

I wasn't able to complete the game as it's fairly unforgiving and twice I encountered a bug that ended my attempts. If one of the skeleton enemies jumped on top of me while I was attacking, the player character would repeatedly swing his sword until I died.

Egress by SirDuck 2021-04-28T19:10:40Z

I agree with almost everything that has been said - there's a fantastic foundation here and with a little more polish on the tutorial side and speeding up combat, it's something I'm very into! Great work!

Don't hit anything by Martinek 2021-04-28T20:41:17Z

The game has a clean look but the lack of visual/audio feedback on hits makes it hard to know what's going on, especially in the lower areas when the backgrounds get more detailed. I couldn't tell what was hurting me and died several times when seemingly just the tip of my hand would touch a bird which feels pretty hard to focus on in the middle of all of the action.

When I beat the game, I didn't go for any breakable objects and just held to the left of the screen, grabbing hearts as they appear - maybe it'd make more sense for the balloons to drop hearts so the player would have to engage more in a risk vs reward decision?

Still had fun with it and agree with most of the comments here! Congrats on the entry!

Deeper than Darkness by leodantas 2021-04-27T21:24:23Z

You've got a solid foundation here in your atmosphere and gameplay feel, it could just use some more effects/sound/time. Like @batiali said, that's just how jams go! Also, I really like the enemy designs!

LD49 — Unstable

Router Runner by JustinMullin 2021-10-12T20:48:29Z

A really tight puzzle concept with a great layer of polish. The "feel" of pulling the wires was very satisfying and actually kept me playing longer - well done!

Lizzie's Lucky Potion Shop by celia14 2021-10-20T03:44:37Z

Loved it! My wife and I spent way too long arguing over how to gamble our money away...mistakes were made.

The Lunatic by Samuel Fine 2021-10-20T16:51:21Z

Seems like I was stuck in a similar predicament to someone else, but overall I really liked it and wanted to keep playing. The concept is slow to pick up but rewarding in practice!

image_2021-10-20_114926.png

Celestial Waltz by gasgiant 2021-10-07T23:08:52Z

I agree with everything said here. Great mood and theme but would benefit from informing the player their calculations are only done before pressing space - an easy thing to miss that might have some people clicking away before seeing your hard work.

Good job finding something so unique to convey and executing it so cleanly!

Pen's Panic by TomatoLamp 2021-10-12T21:16:19Z

Thanks everyone for playing and for all of the comments! That walrus sure is a bastard, you really have to play it careful and not under-estimate him.

Overall, I had a lot of big ideas that could have made this more of a "real game" but I'm at least happy that I used the jam to try my hand at some new things - even if they wasted all of my time lol

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Lucifloor by Snowdrama 2022-04-06T22:27:43Z

I love the art! The presentation and gameplay feel super solid though it does seem like there should be some obstacles to discourage the player from just building a tall tower and standing still.

Potential bug: The block inventory does not reset to 10 after restarting - our game has this same problem with power-ups too,

Great Work!

The Pit by dikkop 2022-04-06T22:55:42Z

Your dropbox link is not working - it looks really fun, hope its working soon!

TOOB by Gatlink 2022-04-09T19:38:10Z

Awesome style and execution! To avoid repeating what others have said, here are two observations of mine:

Perhaps having a camera that points down the "TOOB" would help a bit with avoiding deaths to obstacles while performing tight turns.

Also, turning left and right on the XboxOne gamepad is odd as it stops reading your input as a turn when you push the stick too high or low on the y-axis - I'd just leave the triggers for accel/brake and give the stick better range of motion.

Great entry and nice work!

Bonanananza by shieldgenerator7 2022-04-09T20:10:49Z

Awesome presentation and a very tight little game. It's easy to see how the idea could be expanded on and polished - great work, everyone!

The Denevetable by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2022-04-06T23:05:16Z

I love the aesthetic and the level design makes fantastic use of that asset pack! Overall, the game feels tight with a great presentation - nice work everyone!

Prestidigitaxation by TomatoLamp 2022-04-07T17:19:33Z

Thank you to everybody for playing and for all of the feedback and kind words; we'll be working through your games and providing feedback over the next few days!

Tamaghost Jump! by Kaiyaki 2022-04-06T22:01:43Z

A super cute entry with incredibly solid presentation - great work!

Death Will Find A Way by ashley watson 2022-04-06T21:30:11Z

I love Death's animations and the comedic use of the theme - it can be pretty tough and unforgiving at times but it's a jam game and you accomplished a lot in a nice little package!

Jupiter Station - v0.5 by Kyra Sanchez 2022-04-09T18:02:15Z

Fantastic use of theme and absolutely agree with @peachtreeoath about its potential and innovative take on the genre. Awesome entry!

Last Night at Tax fraud by iMadislol 2022-04-06T23:13:01Z

A really fun idea - probably made better for those familiar with FNAF. Spooky atmosphere with fun artwork!

We also made a run from the tax-man game - it's, uh, different.

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Timed Turn Based Strategy Game by PatBGames 2022-10-19T03:35:37Z

There's a good framework here in your updated version, it's a little slow but I feel it's just missing a layer of polish. A timer and turn-order UI would really help inform the player what is happening. Also, auto-selecting the next available unit (and focusing the camera on them), a pan button for moving the camera, and showing enemy turns on camera would help the flow of the game a lot.

Overall, I'm glad you took the time to add the extra combat elements as they did add a bit of strategy and pull it together a bit more - it's hard to make such complex games during a jam (especially compo), nice work!

Faraday Uncaged by TheWustache 2022-10-08T23:05:03Z

A deceptively deep and addicting little game, I agree with everything said here - it already feels ready for the appstore!

Mr. Kittys mana potions by TinySalad 2022-10-13T21:00:32Z

It was fun to experiment with the different spells and I did feel like I found myself in a bit of a traditional gameplay loop for a while but it could definitely use refining. You have a good foundation with the destructible terrain and the functionality of the spells - it would be cool to see their reactions expanded as some of the other comments have noted but of course those are difficult things to tackle and keep in-scope as a solo dev and I think you accomplished a lot as is.

Either way, the cute cats were enough to make it worthwhile and gives charming context to the playground you've built - keep it up!

BLOODKNIFE : KNIFE OF BLOOD by TomatoLamp 2022-10-04T10:21:25Z

@zakroutil Thanks for playing! We need a tutorial and controls lists yet but you can aim directly by holding right click and even fire projectiles by charging that way.

BLOODKNIFE : KNIFE OF BLOOD by TomatoLamp 2022-10-06T02:23:23Z

@thewustache Thanks for the feedback and bringing an issue to our attention! I assume you were playing on 144hz monitor? Enemy attacks were not working on those setups...it is extremely bizarre. We've uploaded a new version with the framerate locked to 60 fps for the time being.

Kangaroo Court by Celtican 2022-10-13T20:26:21Z

I did have some issues with the gavel not registering but, aside from that, this has been one of my favorite entries so far! It's a great use of the theme in a clever and complete little package. While the gavel should certainly be more reliable for the time you have, it was otherwise very polished in presentation and gameplay loop.

Of course it was frantic and there was information overload but that seemed to be exactly the point. I always felt like I had just enough information to make a weary assumption but I somehow got the "good" ending. Great work to the entire team!

Encoded War by KokkakNiphon 2022-10-09T18:12:41Z

A really solid package and a clever game design - I agree with most of what has been said here. Primarily, I think it would benefit from letting you practice during the read phase - at least to serve as a tutorial on the first day.

Moovement by AshCubed 2022-10-09T18:53:59Z

I agree with the above comment, I played for over 5 minutes on my first run and never once actually saw a battle since I kept getting more time. I'd be really interested to play a version of this with a tighter balance, it seems like there's a lot of potential here!

Sunfall by chemicalcrux 2022-10-13T19:12:40Z

You really have the perfect amount of polish and scope for a jam game - it reminded me a lot of Race the Sun at first but your effects and layered design help it stand out on its own. I agree with what others have said about a safe-zone transition and I wasn't a huge fan of the audio tone after an extended session but it definitely helps with the feeling of dread. Overall a great entry, nice work!

Zombie Bomb 10 by Sparkinex 2022-10-12T23:08:36Z

It always felt satisfying putting up the shield just in time! Enemy variants and having more audio/visual feedback when the player takes and deals damage would go a long way but we all know how hard it is cramming everything into the weekend. It looks as if this might be your first LD game, you've got a great start here - keep going!

LD53 — Delivery

Crazy Pizza Galaxy! by Snowdrama 2023-05-15T16:39:07Z

I actually played for way longer than I expected. I think the style and music really contributed to an engaging lo-fi/vaporware sort of vibe that I got sucked into.

I do think the "increasing difficulty" format is a good fit for jams and am guilty of going that route every time. You're right on the balance issues but I think you were very close to hitting the mark - it's a little slow to start and then gets too hard once you get into a flow but I still enjoyed the time I spent with it. Nice work!

Supply Drop by Bernhard 2023-05-17T14:21:23Z

A very well put together compo game! I actually really enjoyed the handling of the helicopter once I got accustomed to it but the chaos of the rope physics was pretty unwieldly lol

A couple of notes: -Some indication of what can destroy the box might help make things clear to first time players. Sometimes it would seem to explode when it hit the helicopter and other times it didn't?

-I like the chaos of the rope being able to hit the box but maybe it'd be better if the rope only had collision on some kind of end claw object? This way the player will still have to be careful but they wouldn't be responsible for random folds in the rope snapping straight and sending the box off towards its doom.

Good work!

I agree with most of what's been said here - you had a huge scope but absolutely delivered. My biggest nitpicks are these:

I really wish the "landing" animation played in time with you hitting the ground. It seems small compared to how much you've accomplished but also very important for giving that main action satisfying "feel." For the same reason, I would love a sound effect when you jump on enemies.

Regardless, gorgeous entry with an incredibly polished presentation - awesome stuff!

Save the Mail! by MtWhateverest 2023-05-03T19:21:39Z

Based on what others have said, there may be some bugs with the counting of boxes but the general premise and scope are perfect for a jam game. Additional challenges and a bit of polish would go a long way, but it's a simple and fun entry. Good work!

Jurassic Part-Timer by TomatoLamp 2023-05-15T14:27:43Z

Thanks for playing everyone! We've been busy but I'm taking some time to work through and rate all of your submissions.

Notes: -Packages can destroy the pirates but they're a bit hard to aim at properly.

-I think the camera speed is going to vary wonkily depending on your mouse DPI and screen resolution. (Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to plug sensitivity into the menus)

Instant Delivery by Scorpion 2023-05-17T14:32:51Z

This is really well scoped and a good entry for your first jam - especially as a solo dev.

Aside from what has been mentioned, I think you are just a step away from an engaging gameplay loop. Maybe something like making packages appear as pickups on the road that you need to keep stocked up on - that would force the player into traffic more and from there you could layer in additional enemies and even player abilities pickups (invincibility, projectile, etc.). Mixing that chaos into your left/right throwing system sounds like a blast to me.

Regardless, you pushed through and submitted a game - good work!

Xenoluv by TennoTako 2023-05-18T14:32:42Z

How did you manage to make something so horrific *this* adorable?! A great concept and executed well outside of some minor bugs - but the visual style and the little charms really make it a blast to play (especially for fans of the series).

Some added hazards, music, and a pause menu would be welcome additions to completely the package, but great work!

At one point a marine just walked up to an egg on their own, lovestruck - it was just like Prometheus lol

Crab Raider by Lex 4kraba 2023-05-05T03:29:46Z

A great homage to one of my childhood favorites! I'm sure it's a bit confusing for those who didn't play the original but it's very well executed overall. I wish there was more but you accomplished a lot for a jam game already.

At one point, Not-Sam-the-Sheepdog got stuck in this fence and made my run a bit of a breeze. Though I was impressed at how effective he was normally! image_2023-05-04_222815807.png

railless! by lethargic 2023-05-17T18:11:18Z

The premise is awesome and the overall presentation is phenomenal but something is definitely a little off about the difficulty.

One thing that might be an issue is that the player's starting angle and position seemed to vary slightly after failures which has a pretty big effect on drifting in such small spaces. Maybe it was just me, but levels like 4 and 5 became much easier when I quit back to the main menu and returned to them properly lined up.

Overall it is a remarkably clean and complete package of a game for a jam - perhaps a few speed difficulty options would have made it more accessible for first impressions. Nice work!

Feed Before Fight by WangJeff 2023-05-17T18:35:55Z

I really enjoy all of the character sprites, animation, and the overall visual design - it's not completely cohesive but there is a clear vision here and it's very cute and charming!

The main gameplay loop, however, is immediately a bit confusing - you have a hand of cards, there are cards of different rarities, coins, and hearts but the player has no familiarity with any of it on starting (outside of your write-up).

You may want to considering how you can tie these systems together to create a more unified and straightforward experience. Perhaps your health could be the amount of cards remaining and getting hit takes your cards - currency could even be cashing in on cards and their value could come from their rarity.

Regardless, I had fun; it looks like this is your first jam as a team and overall you show a lot of promise - nice work!

CONVEYOR PROJECT by Almaz 2023-05-03T19:29:04Z

Nice work for your first entry! It isn't exactly my type of game but I still found myself sucked into the process. I thought the art style came together in a fun way and enjoyed seeing the boss spy on me as I failed terribly.

I think the trigger on door 4 is maybe a little messed up - I regularly couldn't drop packages in it and when it did work it was kind of far to the left on the door.

Pier Boat Delivery by Vinicius Meireles 2023-05-17T23:30:17Z

The surfboard put a huge smile on my face - not to mention the dogs! I kind of wish we got to keep and activate the abilities manually but they did add a sense of urgency to things.

Overall, I think @bmacintosh said almost everything I can but I'd like to add that the player controls really well for a 3D platformer jam game; good work!

LD54 — Limited Space

The Jazz Cat by chispaLBC 2023-10-15T18:40:28Z

One of my favorite entries so far, I don't really love puzzle games but it had such a fantastic visual style and mood!

I agree with some of the comments above about the cursor/controls and confusion about what to do - perhaps having the cat paw cursor to click between the kitchen and the payout on the "restaurant segments" rather than walking would be enough to ease that confusion and let you keep the cat paw there while removing it in the puzzle parts.

Great work to the whole team!

This Robot Wizard Game Is Taking Too Much Disk Space! by jandourek 2023-10-18T23:55:05Z

Amazing concept - absolutely the best take on the theme I've seen. The gameplay was simple and the art was charming - what more could you want from a jam game. Great work!

Eggcellent Oot by N3K 2023-10-19T00:05:43Z

The art direction is so good here - great work on the models! I had a lot of the same issues others mentioned, including riding an egg out of the ring and being stranded outside the level. With those issues fixed, some balance adjustments, and a tutorial - I could see a pretty fun little jam game here.

Six Seats Left by F1Krazy 2023-10-19T20:20:52Z

What a great little compo game - while we might want to know more about the characters, knowing so little and only seeing them in their desperation adds to the reality of the situation, there is no easy or right choice. Excellent work!

Hellevator by SgtWeirdo 2023-10-18T23:28:16Z

The presentation here is great - I love the art style and the detail put into the scrolling background. Really great job making something so charming. I think if the attack animation played consistently and the enemies could damage you - it would make a world of difference too. Regardless, well done team!

No Room in Hell by TomatoLamp 2023-10-05T04:14:44Z

Thanks for playing and taking the time to write.

Our goal was pretty much to just have fun making a little randomized version of a classic RE game - overbearing dialogue and all. We knew it wouldn't be for everyone. We actually narrowed in on resources and things like that to avoid over complicating it and instead focused on the "Limited Space" side of the theme.

I will say, I feel most people would find jump scare horror to be cheap - making the player panic means that you actually felt something, so I'm happy to hear that!

No Room in Hell by TomatoLamp 2023-10-07T22:24:03Z

Thanks for playing everyone!

@zee-yuen We understand all frustrations about the controls! (Which we did list under the pause menu, but they were easy to miss there @silas-reinagel )

We knew they would be divisive but for us it's not just about nostalgia. The way you have to watch your character's forward direction, scan the rooms, and reverse away from enemies to avoid them in the nick of time - it's just a unique experience that I want to coexist alongside modern third person shooters. If any part of it interested you, I'd encourage you to go check out the Resident Evil 1 remake (which has an okay modern control scheme option) or any of the classics - I'll be honored to be your introduction.

Ultimately, you like it or you don't - but we're happy you took the time to play and write all the same! We'll be working through your games soon as well.

Bar by CleverDog 2023-10-15T21:24:36Z

I love ice grape orange drink. 10/10

we been bussin by dvdstain 2023-10-19T19:42:36Z

I love the presentation and overall mood of the game - it's not the most intense gameplay but the premise and execution are very charming. Maybe adding more exits over time or other ways to fail would make it more challenging - but I enjoyed it regardless.

Bubbles by Emma.Ge 2023-10-19T04:44:55Z

It definitely could benefit from an in-game tutorial - it seems like most of us immediately leave the bubble and see the "press space 3 times message" and get confused thinking that's how you should survive. Once I got used to pressing "J" to make my path, it was a lot more fun to move around. Maybe pressing "J" with no direction could create a bubble on top of you and eliminate the need for the spacebar mechanic completely?

I think the way you incorporated the theme into the story and gameplay is very well done and the artwork is incredible. A really intriguing entry that I fear will be missed by some due to a rough start.

Bone Box Brawl by LucasZoom 2023-10-19T02:26:52Z

I really enjoyed the straightforward design of the scoring system and the ever-increasing intensity. As others have said, some feedback on taking damage and moving the box would go a long way for your presentation and player satisfaction. Regardless, great work for your first jam game and way to nail the theme!

Shadow's Edge by octahedron 2023-10-18T22:02:33Z

Like many have said, visually, you've made a charming little entry - nice work for the compo! I also made a frustrating to control entry, so I'm maybe biased towards the controls but I found it to be a fun challenge - I only wish I didn't die to so many holes I couldn't see.

LD57 — Depths

Big Boom Bob by indegame 2025-04-17T01:53:21Z

Charming character sprites and a strangely addicting gameplay loop. With some polish and additional content, there's already a fun little game here. Nice work pulling this together!

Siren Song of the Deep by merc37 2025-04-17T02:17:26Z

Aside from having to hold shift to use the objects, I really liked how the ship and its mechanisms controlled! Maybe I was lucky but it seems like you're able to mine the coral around the shaftway without ever getting attacked by fish? Maybe if the area became increasingly dangerous over time or less coral spawned there it would force the player to venture out.

I could see this being increasingly stressful and hilarious if it were expanded a little more. Good work!

In Focus by miroreflect 2025-04-17T02:31:08Z

Kudos on making a working puzzle game and especially one with a fresh, on-theme, mechanic!

Side note: my brain really wants to see this as a 3D game with a forced perspective (from the main camera angle, everything would look normal but if you turned the camera you would see which objects are "out of place" and interactable)

Dark Depths by buckmeister 2025-04-09T18:12:52Z

Echoing what's already been said, it's fun and atmospheric with great presentation!

Bug report: the mouse sensitivity seemed to be read differently when going in and out of the upgrades menu. Before opening the menu, I was hardly able to turn at all and it would reset back to that state if I alt+tabbed to a different window.

Cloud Sea Catalog by TomatoLamp 2025-04-10T04:40:23Z

Thanks for playing and leaving feedback, everyone!

I've been working through your games and it's a really impressive batch of entries - if you're reading this, make sure to check out all of their games too!

Underwatica by MilkWine 2025-04-10T05:39:02Z

It felt kind of cruel but scanner go brrrrr! A cute exploratory entry with an unexpectedly cozy vibe - the sound design and "scanning" animation really brought it together. Good work!

Below by Regmont 2025-04-09T18:58:39Z

Despite the slow gameplay, I was kind of drawn in by the sound and presentation. Some additional hazards to navigate and maybe a boost or dodge feature to give us a chance to get cocky and hit the mines would have made it a bit more dangerous but it was a good length and fun to explore!

Wobble Down by MartenJ 2025-04-17T03:26:24Z

At first I really wanted the leaning to allow me to navigate around the obstacles but once I realized how it functioned, I enjoyed it my time here!

I do think the obstacles could be more dangerous. I was able to run full speed through most of the level, only slowing down for the steep, downhill, segments.

Additionally, stepping on obstacles randomly sets your balance but it doesn't provide any "momentum" in that direction so the best thing is to often not input at all. If obstacles "pushed" the balance in a direction for a length of time (or until another obstacle is hit) - it might make them trickier and more exciting.

All in all, it's a unique entry with some ambitious features - good job!

Lust4Life by hirqshi 2025-04-09T18:08:12Z

Great art direction and immersive way to clue the player into the objectives without any tutorials. I wished the minerals wouldn't fall into the boulders so easily but an impressive entry overall!

Dredge by Snore 2025-04-10T05:27:21Z

I love the cutout art-style - it's cohesive and adorable. Some of those fish are incredibly tricky to navigate around!

Bug report: I ran into an issue where the rope occasionally wouldn't reel me in. I was unsure if there was a mechanical reason for that.

СГ-4: Superdeep by Auto 2025-04-09T18:25:59Z

Honestly, this might be one of my favorite game jams...ever? It's small in scope but the execution is practically flawless. The way the music and visuals build-up make it quite addicting and the presentation feels like it's been pulled straight from a DS WarioWare game - fantastic work everyone! As others have mentioned, discerning the rock types can be a bit tricky at times but learning that did add a layer of complexity that I appreciated.

Depth Gem by haykam 2025-04-10T05:00:27Z

I really like the arcade-style presentation and the strategy in saving the mining for the escape segments. The controls were very sensitive and the jump height was sometimes inconsistent or I would suddenly clip up onto a ledge. The scope is appropriate for a jam game but some additional hazards to avoid or upgrades to mine the deeper blocks would go a long way.

Regardless, it was compelling enough to keep me playing for a while - nice job!
