The premise of the game had me immediately interested. It reminds me a lot of Gauntled, which I played a lot as a Kid. But to be honest this game feels like it isn't really finished and also probably not what you imagined it to be in the end. While the visuals are really, really nice the combat is just not really fun. And by that I mean the systems / game design behind it. While it's good that the attack ranges are pretty wide there is not a lot of telegraphing happening to tell you when to get out of the way. And since you completely rely on dodging that's pretty bad. I even looked up the controls again because I thought there *must* be a parry or block button. And it's probably also not really a question of skill because I can see that you're having the same problems in your video. I hope my criticism is not too harsh. I'm just trying to give you some input on what to improve because, again, the premise of the game is pretty great and I would like to see this concept fully fleshed out. So consider to keep working on it. Thanks :)
@warrrkus, thanks for playing!
I think if you played the very early 1.0 version, there was actually a melee attack hitbox bug that may have been throwing you off!
The game is hard! When a monster holds his weapon behind his head, it means he's about to swing at you! An enemy's turning speed goes way down when preparing an attack, so you are able to maneuver out of the way if you move in the direction of the swing.
Try approaching opponents from the left or right side, depending which hand they're holding weapons in.
Melee combat is really about hovering just outside of attack range and darting in to deliver strikes when there's an opening.
You can use shields to block incoming hits!
I appreciate your thoughts! I think maybe the combat mechanics are not transparent enough. We'll work with communicating some of this to to player in the future!
I'd be super, super interested if seeing if you had any additional thoughts on the build with the bug resolved!

Loved the pixel art and chip tune!
I loved the art, and boy oh boy did I enjoy the combat mechanics. Every fight felt like a frenetic scramble, and it all felt surprisingly tuned. I would love to play a massive version of this, will you be working on an expanded version? Very cool overall, and either way I'm going to keep playing.
Great audio and graphics! I struggled with the combat but I'm not very good at games like this.. I think it may have crashed on me when I died with "1 soul remaining"
I don't know if this happens for everyone, but there are some visual artifacts that happens constantly, where white lines appears on screen.
Other than that, good job.
Great combat! I suck at it but it is very good.
we are going to continue to work on the game! :D there's some things that need to be finished up, and others that need to be fine-tuned we have a pretty clear goal in mind. stay tuned!
One of my favorite games of the jam so far! The presentation is fantastic and the combat is really engaging even against individual enemies. My one small complaint would be that having to wait for the animation to finish before pressing the corresponding attack button again is a bit hard to feel out in the middle of combat but it does create a nice rhythm for alternating left and right attacks. Awesome entry!
Bug note: I had one crash - it was on the respawn screen with one soul remaining.
@tomatolamp Great feedback! Really great point on not being able to Tap attack at the end of an attack animation. I'm going to move to a system where you Hold Mouse Button to "ready" an attack, and release to swing. This'll solve that problem as well.
I'll knock that bug out too!
Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it!
Whooaa so beautiful graphic! Amazing!! I really have fun to play this game) Thank you! Awesomeness game!!!
This is a cool rogue like game. The art looks really nice and the idea of having two seperate weapon attacks. I have to say the AI moves and reacts amazingly. Sadly I did not get very far as I suck at these kind of games xD I did not really know what I was doing wrong.
@sam-minh thanks for playing! The game is really hard! I can't get past level 5 or so, so far. There's some technique to staying just out of striking distance and darting in to deliver your own strikes, and you definitely have to be conscious of which side of your enemy you engage on!
@alina-baybulatova thanks for the kind words!
The art is really good, you did a pretty nice job !
Once I got used to the controls that was one of the most fun games I've played this jam. Will be keeping a copy of this to play later. Only issue I found was the white line artifacts.
The art for this is fantastic and I really enjoyed the controls and gameplay. Definitely gave me original gauntlet vibes, but also felt unique in how it controlled. It's well polished and a fun entry, I'd love to see even more content!
A nice concept with cool graphics and good sound design. Also really liked the minimalist visualization of the map. Some custom art for it to tie in better with the overall style would be neat.
At first I was a bit lost, but quickly I knew what to do and how the game worked. The first time, it may take some time to figure out how to play, but once you do, it's kinda fun! The graphics were really good, and the music and sfx were also amazing. Overall, a few things could be better, but a really great game. Congrats!
Had some trouble on my end getting this to run but really like the concept
