first lets see what we got
Alright there and back again, congrats to everyone for making a super fun game, it was a little brutal having to restart the entire level if you fell in the water, died to monsters sure but falling in the water and restarting was not fun.
reminded me heavily of the old collectathons like spyro and crashbandicoot, taking the egg from one point to the other to complete the level is fun though i didn't know i could fight back so until the basketball arena I was just dodging and even after i didn't know if it was just the goblins or all monster that I could jump on.
I think i found one glitch in the game, I was full health all 6 and found the steak and the spare star under the final door of level ... 2? and the steak just hung out with me, attached to the character and followed me to the end.
good sound, great art work, great animations, it felt awesome to play.
I love this kind of games. I played a lot of crash bandicoot and this brought me back some nostalgia. As mentioned, a bit harsh to reset the whole level after death, but who has time for checkpoints in game jam anyway.
This is a very nice and very fleshed out game, i reaaally liked it!!
Please publish a web build!
@cheesepencil I would love, but it's impossible.:(
@soloadventurergames thank you for playing.
@tomas-selmeci thank you
@drapfelwurst thanks!

This is a really polished game. Its impressive how you managed to create this whole game including all its content in the little time you had. Graphics look good, sound is nice. Game controls are fluid, gameplay has alot of elements to it. One of the best games I've played during this LD

Really impressive in terms of scale for a jam timespan! Well-designed levels with variety of different obstacles, enemies and unique situations. I encountered small issues here and there like water flickering or missing sound when you land on an enemy, or enemies on a baseball field ignoring the player and looking at the walls - but these are just minor things in comparison with a complete well-made game here.
Well I can definitely sense that your previous game served as a base, although it's good to see the controls were improved. :P
I'm still not too much a fan of collectathons so after falling in the water near the end of a level on multiple occasion I couldn't be bothered to redo everything and collect every single meat piece again.
I managed to softlock myself too which forced a restart of the game : turns out doors can be interacted with when you stand right on top of it : a text saying "Can't unlock" appears and pressing F closes the door, permanently closing it.
Jumping on the enemies wasn't great, kinda finicky to perfectly land on them and the bouncing off being physics based meant it could be hard to predict and occasionally threw me into a deadly situation.
I think I would've preferred less levels and higher polish, small stuff like : - some checkpoints, - a small tutorial bit, - an objective indicator showing where to go these could've eased the experience a lot for me and make me willing to try harder to complete the game.
The art is really cool, I liked the animations and the general vibe. Sound wise it's lacking a bit, the music is nice but barely or no sound effects on a lot of actions make them feel a bit underwhelming, especially when you're doing them again and again across the retries.
For the gameplay, I would've liked a bit more interactions possible with the egg, it feels like the game would've barely changed without it. The only two notable consequences were the few puzzles requiring to throw the egg at a target and enemies running away with it, though that only happened once in my playthrough.
What if instead of damaging the enemies by jumping on them, you do it by throwing the egg on them ? Turns throwing from something to avoid to a double edged one : You need to throw it to kill enemies But it would give them a chance to grab it
Could be interesting to then design everything around the egg : - Different throw moves (directly in front, upward, just placing it down, etc) having different uses, adding depth to it - Enemies that are designed with the level design in mind, so you don't ignore 95% of them until they somewhat bother you enough to take the time to kill them but are an integral part of the gameplay
Imagine placing the egg down to attract an enemy, rolling the egg like a bowling ball and damaging everything in its path, but losing a health point upon impact with a wall etc
Well anyway this is long enough as it is. Hopefully this was helpful and did not come across as bossy, it wasn't the intention.

this game is so fun, and i love the third person character controller. the only bad thing i can say about this game is that there was some artifacting with the grass. when i got to the island where the spinny things and cannon shooting there was some flicker in the grass textures. other then that great game, looked great and felt fun to play.
@patatenouille Thank you for your feedback. I am glad that you have a good overall impression of this game. Indeed, everything that you have described is possible to implement, but requires much more time and study than the time frame of the jam.
@pavel-tararin For sure yeah, it probably would be over-scoped to do everything I mentioned.
My point was more than instead of having several long levels I would rather have a shorter but more in depth and polished experience.
Though that's just my opinion, and like I said this isn't particularily my type of game so it might be irrelevant.
This said, the game was fairly polished, just difficult without checkpoints.
@patatenouille thanks for the feedback. Agree that we don’t utilize egg in puzzles enough. Talking about levels, they’re much smaller than in a previous one, but still can be smaller and more focused on gameplay.
Ah, it's nice to see the goose team back! Another very polished game once again, great work!
love croc
Love the gamecube era platformer vibe going on here. The music sets the tone and the like greenhill zone esque level design does a good job of keeping that sense of place going. I could totally see this having some cute little opening scene that gets you vibing with this dinosaur guy. Obviously that kinda thing is outta scope for a jam but the fact the other game having a sense of place put me in a spot where I was hungry for something along those lines.
I couldn't quite figure out how to defeat enemies, my initial thought was to throw the egg at them. Maybe they weren't meant to be defeated but the hearts above their head made me think otherwise.
The dinosaur had a great set of little reaction sounds to different stuff going on. I especially dug how emotive the death frustration sound was!
Great little game, makes me hungry to play more 3d platformers like this.

@tricky-fat-cat just wanted to make sure you knew the -50 influence thing was a joke and that it did nothing lol, im loking foward to playing your game eventually
@pomo No worries! I was extremely tired after a jam and workday. :)
@thae @tnnv @jcmonkey @dingledorf @freshbone @groundwater-studio thank you for playing!

This is a lot easier to control than your previous game :)
Restarting the whole level when you die is too harsh, especially when they are so large. Pushing some of the buttons by throwing the egg was really tough.
ok so u guys did mario 3D in 72h --- no pressure --- you got a game in the top 25 here --- pretty sure you know it but I had to say it ^^# haha --- very nice!! --- I didnt realize you could kill npcs by jumping onto their heads _[no judgement]_ but actually the dino stealing my egg at the basketball hoop made me figure it out --- I feel there's a lot of really clever game design in this game that nudges you in the direction you should go gently --- it's mega-juicy with all these steaks and all --- huge, really well-finalized, well-level designed --- yeah Im having a hard time finding critical things to say, honest --- it's not punhshing --- you guys have a banger in your hands, what can I say --- thanks for setting the bar, guys, and until next time ;-) :-D :sparkles:
@chybby thanks for playing. Indeed it's harsh to do a hard reset of the level, and it was a tough decision. However, it was the best way to emphasize our intent.
@strangeryann than you for feedback! Indeed we had some inspiration from Mario.
Great job!
The mood of the game is very cool. I'ts like playing a good ol platformer.
I almost expend more time exiting the game than playing :laughing:
The scope feels really implessive! A lot of long levels, good music, many mechanics - maybe too many.
I was not able to play past the first half of the first on linux build :( (there was no button before the stone door).
The egg could be utilized more in combat :). But considering the limitation of the jam it is really great

The game is beautiful, but it weighs a lot and is very heavy for my PC
Yayy I found the hat
@daniboygg thank you!
@tetrergeru hey, thank you for the play. Did the game crashed?
@kartun04 I'm sorry for the performance on your machine. Next time we will try to add a proper settings window.
@snakemuho yay!
No it didn't crash, the button that opens the door was missing :(
@tetrergeru or maybe it was somewhere else.:)

Its a fun platformer. I think the meat pickups don't work very well since there so many of them and your player isn't capable of gathering them efficiently.
completely missed the part where you jump on enemies to kill them, oops xD thanks for submitting! Here's the VOD: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1812243943

@tricky-fat-cat I played your game a bit on stream today if you wanna check it out, did not finish it I had other things that needed done as well
@tricky-fat-cat I was watchin my friend playing the same level and it was right there for him (on windows)
Good looking and feeling game. Maybe it was my approach going for the top level first, but after dying once I was unable to lower the bridge. I have no idea what lowered it in the first place, either. Perhaps the game could've used the classic floating F for interactions. I had no issue starting over but I didn't reset too many times either.
Good work.
@pomo oh no, I've missed your stream because I fell asleep. :(
@wolfier thanks for playing.
@mateusboga thank you for the stream!
@coderaurus thanks.
Very impressive for a jam game!Really like the aestetics it reminded me of bajoo kazooie!Only thing is that it might have been better to make the tutorial required for the first level or maby more prominent because I didnt get it was a tutorial and thought I had 2 choices for level or something like that and picked the closer blue one and was a bit lost at the start but other than that very cool game good job to everyone!
A very full game, again with probably too much content for a game jam! As I mentioned on stream, I'd love to see 25% of the content and then spending the extra time making the UX feel tighter and more engaging (and less frustrating!). These games def have that feel of classic 3d platformers like mario and banjo, and you bring together the 3d assets well to build a world. I think the level design feels good, but at the same time its hanging on the old charm of those games - where you're expected to run around and collect everything, perhaps without moment to moment fun / challenge.
Oh man I love Spryo/Crash Banditcoot-style games, and you managed to make one in a couple days?! This is really excellent, holy heck, nice job!
Couldn't get the game to run properly with my graphics card. I didn't rate the game because of that, but I thought you might like to know. The game ran, but the lighting was very dark.
I agree with most of what's been said here - you had a huge scope but absolutely delivered. My biggest nitpicks are these:
I really wish the "landing" animation played in time with you hitting the ground. It seems small compared to how much you've accomplished but also very important for giving that main action satisfying "feel." For the same reason, I would love a sound effect when you jump on enemies.
Regardless, gorgeous entry with an incredibly polished presentation - awesome stuff!

Once again, you showed how easy it could be if people don't let themselves be held captive by the theme. You just make good, fun games. I'm inspired to finally stop stressing out over all the superficial stuff and concentrate on the fun. Thank you for this gem that taught me better than any Post Mortem could! 5/5.
