LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

Do you have the colour? by saintheiser 2017-12-09T05:12:07Z

Now that's my kind of game! It's just happy and colorful. :-) You wouldn't think it would be hard, but it is! It's ridiculously simple, but I think it's a lot of fun. I like this kind of hard better than the kinds of difficulty in a lot of other game types.

I actually think it's very helpful to show the new color after you collect it, because often the colors look different in the large sample than I would expect, or I can see the differences better there. For example, two swatches may look just the same but when I see the large intro bar of one, I realize it's darker than I thought and then I can remember that that swatch means the darker color even though it looks like the lighter one to me.

Mr. Capital! by fluidvolt 2017-12-09T02:55:01Z

I love how the theme message is both the story and the mechanic! Great point, and the humor makes it fun. The imprecise controls were a bit frustrating, but the game was short enough that I could put up with it. Really excellent unity of design.

Give Me a Pound My Friend by KriskyD 2017-12-09T04:25:43Z

Dismissing the beggars by clicking didn't work for me; I always crash before I can even see if pointing on them and clicking gets rid of them. I like the concept, but couldn't figure out how to get through the game. Also, how do you exit the game?

Tycoon of the HighSeas by RelicTooth 2017-12-09T05:56:03Z

I like the graphical details like fish, clouds, rain, day/night. The sound effects and music are very nice too. But I don't feel like I'm playing a game because it just goes, and even at port there aren't very significant decisions. I don't see how it fits the theme at all. So it seems like a lot of your time was probably spent on the less important extras, and it would make a better overall game to focus first on the gameplay. It's hard to focus and prioritize in such limited time!

Introverd by Krzysztof Krawczyk 2017-12-09T05:36:08Z

Before I could get this game to run, I had to copy the Introverd_Data folder into the main folder next to the .exe (it said it couldn't run because it expected that folder there).

The idea is funny, but I think the balance needs to be adjusted. I can't get enough coins to buy the upgrades needed to survive before I die. I didn't really appreciate the offensive upgrade options, though I understand that fits the quirky theme of the game. But since it's unbalanced there's no way to earn enough money to buy them anyway.

It's a creative idea and a good effort, just unfortunately difficult to play because of some probably simple adjustments. Keep trying!

LD42 — Running out of space

Stock Overflow by afendar 2018-09-04T19:21:18Z

I would be proud if I made those graphics for a jam (and did no other part)! It looks awesome. It was confusing at first, and the controls didn't always respond right even once I figured it out. It also kept crashing, which was a bit frustrating. The code needs to be able to handle when I do things wrong. But it was still fun! It would be nice if the packages arrived more often, so I spent more of the time juggling the running-out-of-space aspect, and less letting orders go because I just hadn't received any of that color. It probably would be better overall if you spent a little more time on getting the gameplay smoother, at the expense of graphics, though I do love the graphics you made.

Mindblocked by diptoman 2018-08-15T19:11:10Z

Very nice, polished and consistent game. I love how you took the theme and made it more often a good thing to run out of space! I was hoping there would be some games with a positive take like that - I couldn't think of how to do it, but I didn't like the feeling that it had to be a problem.

Urban Planning by reuno 2018-08-14T02:17:50Z

The guy looks great. The houses didn't seem to do much damage to the blobs, so it was hard to get very far.

Chroma Jump by crazi456 2018-08-14T03:29:00Z

Is there a pattern to the colors that makes it possible to make it, or do they fall away randomly? I couldn't tell if it's a hard puzzle or a hard random run.

Eventful Horizon by bitdecay 2018-08-14T04:14:12Z

Love the theme and the creative mechanic! The graphics are awesome, but they are in a few different conflicting styles. One thing that would be nice is a checkpoint; it takes long enough to get to the black hole that it makes me not want to keep trying as many times as I would like to if I could just try the race part over. I really love the idea and playing with a unique mechanic.

All Ahoard by Matt Fabius 2018-08-14T05:08:45Z

Very cute and peaceful feel to both the pictures and the music.

Big Crunch by Dave Grey 2018-08-21T05:11:50Z

Haha, that took me a while to figure out what to do, but then it was hard to stop playing. I like how the black hole gives it a unique steering mechanic. One thing that would be nice is a way to distinguish which objects I do and don't want to run into.

Tiny Colony by Mikixen 2018-09-04T19:58:33Z

Fun! I like that I can just keep moving things and not feel too much like either I'm waiting or I can't keep up.

"glow" Our first game Jam! by Angela K. 2018-08-23T03:23:31Z

My laptop couldn't handle it, but I played it on the desktop. I don't often enjoy rolling ball games, but I did enjoy playing glow! Thank you for making it so I can go slowly! And the graphics look so happy.

Light of Bacterium by Blurred Lines 2018-08-14T02:17:02Z

It sounds fun but the game wasn't at the link.

High Tide [html5] by SuperQGS 2018-08-14T02:54:23Z

I love the theme-shaped letters in the title! I expected to shoot on pressing the key but instead it shoots on release, which made me at first think it was lagging.

Boom Boom Farms! by Telefrag Entertainment 2018-08-23T05:09:39Z

Interesting take on the theme...the critters ran out of personal space instead of the player running out of space (though I guess I would if I lasted long enough). The over-the-top explosion was fun. :-) It was hard for me to keep track of what's going on though, so somebody would blow up by the time I noticed them having trouble. That's partly the wide flat area (a map could help) and partly because it wasn't clear how close is too close (drawing a visible radius around each critter could help).

Super Overachiever 42000 Deluxe by suve 2018-08-23T03:51:42Z

Very clever use of the theme! I'm sorry some of the commenters seemed not to understand it. That's the most outside-the-box, but completely fitting, use of the theme that I've seen. I thought the controls were fine, but it's frustrating to take so long (because of slow falling and starting over a LOT). But the slow falling was helpful for me as a not-very-good-platform-jumper, so I can't complain. Mostly I just die a lot which is my fault!

It didn't wind up as fun to play, since the gameplay itself is a plain standard platformer and nothing else to give interest. The unique thing is the acheivement hoard, which is more frustrating than fun. Still, I enjoyed seeing the clever idea even though it's not a game I wanted to play very long.

Never Gonna Give Doggo Up by Rafiki 2018-08-14T04:29:10Z

I really like the teamwork idea, but I wasn't sure what the goal is (besides staying together as much as possible) or how to win. The background art feels so happy. :-)

ChromeStuck by Inferture 2018-08-14T04:42:53Z

Changing color is a fun idea; I just can't keep track of so many controls at once. I feel like I would have enjoyed playing a game with some of these concepts instead of all of them at once... like the color changing and walls with only a simple enemy/distraction task.

Void Incoming by Purrfexionator 2018-08-23T04:50:32Z

This was a lot of fun! The tutorial was good at teaching as you go without too many words, and it's nice that you can choose to skip it. I thought levels 9 and 13 were really cool that they seem so hard until the "ohhh, aha, duh!" moment. And I like how you were able to make a boss out of the same mechanic; I didn't expect that! I would have liked a little more to the graphics; I think that could make it easier to look at.

LD47 — Stuck in a loop

Loopy Flight by Macmist 2020-10-06T18:39:33Z

Great job! I like the double loop theme and having an unusual mechanic in a common genre. It's a good challenge to control while it's looping but not so hard it's frustrating, just fun.

Daily Grind by spacemyname 2020-10-09T05:19:55Z

The game is pretty well balanced, which makes it fun even though it's simple. Good work!

Lasso'em up! by honey 2020-10-10T04:58:16Z

I'm glad you covered handling the cows after roping them - I felt like I cheated by skipping that step in my game! Once I figured out how to steer them (haha), the controls work pretty well, and it's fun to move them around. I love how the cows get some personality by going their own direction. I really like the hand-drawn art, which is a subtle style and I think the grid lines overpower it a bit. If the lines were fainter then the drawings could stand out better, as they deserve. Great job!

Programmer Nightmare by Cary Stanley 2020-10-14T20:37:43Z

Very creative and fitting! I did have trouble sometimes with putting an instruction on something, where it would sometimes drop/disappear before I got to where I was going or clicked to try using it.

Round-a-bout: Get Me Outta Here! Edition by trmrddr 2020-10-06T20:04:14Z

The graphics look amazing. I think it would be more fun if I didn't spend most of the time upside-down.

LDJRodeo by Oinktato 2020-10-06T16:51:59Z

Haha, way more fun spinning! The slow acceleration is frustrating sometimes, which actually makes me feel stuck in a loop (the fence, constantly turning which slows me down) in another way in addition to the lasso loop. Music is very simple but fits and manages to not be annoying in repetition (a trick I haven't figured out yet). Good job, a fun game!

The Little Perpetual Errand Boy by Bocchi-dev 2020-10-07T00:24:50Z

Nice controls and graphics, and I really like the tutorial drawn on the ground! I'm really bad at fighting and dodging though, so I just die all the time.

Shoobeat - Control a spaceship using a programmable loop of actions by MTabasco 2020-10-06T02:18:49Z

This looks amazing, and should be a really fun game. It's telling me "Score: 550" every time regardless of my actual score, but I'm guessing I died rather than passed the level; it's hard to play when that's unclear.

Shoobeat - Control a spaceship using a programmable loop of actions by MTabasco 2020-10-06T16:08:00Z

I tried again and understood the game better. I didn't realize before that I can choose the level with the arrows; I'd wondered why I wasn't going to the next level if I had enough points. Now I tried the other levels, but it appears to take away one of my lives whenever I shoot an enemy ship. Is it supposed to do that? Because of that it looks like bombs are the only way to get enough points before I die after three hits.

Peter Carlson: PC Adventures by Pink shard games 2020-10-07T05:15:34Z

Well I was going to catch up on sleep tonight after the busy weekend of jamming, but then I started playing Peter Carlson... This is super fun, and I don't usually have patience with games that I have to die and try over and over so much. This is a lot of content for a jam, too. I like the little animations, and I like the bricks. It's a good ramp-up of difficulty. I actually almost gave up on it at first because I didn't understand the actions (what the symbols meant, and that walking isn't an action though jumping is), but I'm glad I figured it out. This is a great game!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Descent into Midnight Trench by kfischer-okarin 2021-05-01T03:30:07Z

I like the graphics, simple but fitting. It's cool how realistic the physics feels - including the sluggish-feeling movement!

tetronimo! by gregfagan 2021-05-01T03:52:11Z

This is a cool idea, but it took me quite a while to figure out what to do.

Go, Little Mole! by maxr00 2021-05-01T03:18:48Z

This is a fun mechanic! Very good development of the idea through the level. I like how the different shades of background color sometimes gave me a hint early on of where to go. Though the graphics are super simple, they communicate effectively, which is great for a game jam!

Laundry Pile by nandelind 2021-05-15T18:38:00Z

@ryan-dotsikas and everyone else - There can be duplicate clothes, so you click it and it doesn't count because there's another identical piece that's the right one. Sorry we didn't have time to figure out a way to distinguish everything.

Plummet by PotatoNugget 2021-04-27T19:36:40Z

I enjoyed the surprising feel of trying to go down when I expect platform puzzles to be trying to go up. I wish the ending had some reason to it - why would I be trapped or cursed? Why choose one versus the other?

Dig It! by Rusty Bailey 2021-05-03T21:43:38Z

Nicely polished game. The animations are great! I don't know how people are getting scores in the thousands; did I miss something?

Where's grandpa? by Holy 2021-05-01T02:13:04Z

This was fun to play; I like the variety of puzzles! I don't know if this was intended, but when I got the tangram pieces in the second room the door opened right away, and then when I looked at the horse puzzle the pieces weren't there so I couldn't do the puzzle (and didn't need to since the door was open). I didn't like that the grandpa you're saving kills you at the end though; it felt jarring and disturbing and confusing.

Adventure in Socksland by OwlyCode 2021-04-29T21:19:57Z

This is a cool idea, and I like the animations! It's a would be more fun in my opinion if it were not so hard (I gave up on the last level). The background music and drip sounds were really nice, but I didn't like the loud sound that comes with the "oh yeah" when you reach the stairs each time; it didn't seem to fit with the rest of the sounds, or feel like a positive achievement.

Captain on the Bridge by tkers 2021-04-29T20:28:39Z

This is pretty fun! It feels like an intro level and now I want to play the whole game! It took me a couple tries to figure out what to do; I think I was confused because the way you fight is unrelated to the way the enemies fight, which was more obvious. It could definitely use some balancing for difficulty, and also the cruiser's cards don't make much sense together (it's never worth it to use the charged laser). Am I supposed to be able to use the same card multiple times in one turn? I felt like I shouldn't, but it let me, and that also makes it a bit easier. I really like how it's a card game you could play with real cards and dice, but you also made a digital play mode.

Deep Dive by CodeForJoyCaro 2021-05-01T04:09:03Z

The circle creatures are so cute and funny; I love their expressions! The music and sounds are very nice too, calm and soothing. I would enjoy continuing the gameplay a little longer...but that's how the end of a good dream feels, right?

Elevator Ninja by Loig 2021-04-28T01:33:42Z

That was so much fun! The mechanic is simple but the ninja poses make it awesome. I was amazed to read in the comments that there was a second level, so I had to go back and keep playing until I beat the first level so I could see it. But you're cruel to make me start over the first level when I die in the second! I did appreciate a lot that it skips the intro (which was great) on subsequent attempts, so it's easy to try over and over. Next time I'm in an elevator I gotta try some ninja moves...

Marty and the Eldritch Horror by Game Endeavor 2021-04-28T01:04:02Z

That was a cool mechanic, and worked really well! It ended at a good difficulty level, I thought - took several tries, but not forever, and wasn't so long that I'd get frustrated and give up.

Jelly Pacifist by Dan McAlister 2021-05-04T05:12:14Z

This was a very good portrayal of life...making mistakes, learning to hurt fewer, still being valued and not giving up in spite of frequent failures. Thank you for the encouraging view. I wondered if there would be points or something at the end listing how many I killed, but I'm glad there wasn't. Great work!

Force, Fall, Run, by AfutureV 2021-05-01T03:05:51Z

Wow. Just wow. This is honestly a work of art - even though it looks like it would be the opposite. I can't believe how much you said about life in such a short, simple, unassuming game. As I've thought about it while writing this comment, I've realized deeper and deeper what you've accomplished. Congratulations.

The Deep Well by BlueDingo 2021-05-01T02:46:08Z

It feels satisfying to collect the crystals. :-) I would have liked if the lighting was good from all angles; depending on where I was, sometimes I could hardly tell what colors the crystals were.

LD53 — Delivery

Overtime at the Tetromino Factory by Tim Sims 2023-05-02T19:49:11Z

The version of Tetris I always wanted to play, where I can make the shapes I want! That feels really good, and I love that it can be one or two-player; that's quite an achievement to make the same gameplay work either way. I did find a bug where on restart, the first piece that came down I couldn't move or turn.

EneRail by Ryabchik 2023-05-02T21:16:07Z

These puzzles were fun! I would enjoy a lot more levels. It stopped working after introducing color-change dots, so I don't know how much more there is. I like the music too.

Planet Xpress by Retrific 2023-05-02T20:50:16Z

Nice little game! Good job making the physics. One thing I would like to see is how to find home when I run out of packages. A bolder color on the compass might have been easier to read. I appreciate the scientifically accurate sound track: the silence of space!

LD54 — Limited Space

Start Wreck: The Finite Frontier by LandoSystems 2023-10-03T02:26:48Z

Very funny! I enjoyed the references, and that the encounters seemed generally not too hard or deadly...though it's convenient that we don't mind crashing ships willy-nilly to begin with. I was disappointed at the very "colorful metaphors", glad I tried this one when the kids weren't around. A nice low-stress game for laughs!
