Game starts off a bit too abruptly, but pretty neat nonetheless. Made it 24 seconds lol

dave-grey 2018-08-15 07:22

Haha yeah it throws you in at the deep end. A start screen would be one of the first things I’d add. Thanks for playing!

It was hard to understand who is the main character at the beginning but after it it was easy. Cool idea with colecting these purple things for boost!

Yeah I kind of liked the idea of it being chaos at the start and having to work it all out quickly, but it's definitely not user friendly haha. There was no time for balancing or even testing difficulty really. Thanks for the comments and playing!

Graphics gave me a bit of a old arcade game vibe which I didn't mind but when it came to figuring out how the jetpack worked that took me a few tries maybe having the player start with it would've been nice however once I got past that it was a fun game and I think you did a great job for the 1 day you worked on it.

steve-sparkes 2018-08-15 13:42

The simplicity of this game makes it really nice to pick up and play! Once you get a feel for juggling the jetpack it's fun to chance the risk/reward of swinging around the singularity to save some cats and people. It would be great if you could update it with a "continue" screen at the end of the game, cause I want to check over my score! A solid entry, keep making games!

dave-grey 2018-08-15 13:48

Thanks for playing and commenting @rammy294, your kind words are very appreciated. I knew starting without the jetpack would be divisive, but I kind of liked it. If I had time I would have liked to have gone even further with it and seen how it felt spawning the player and jetpack in random places and never knowing where it would be so you would be having to make a mad scramble for it each time!

This was pretty cool, I liked that you had the grab the jetpack first but didn't figure that out until I'd died a few times, just thought my controls were broken hahah. But still, pretty cute concept and graphics. Loved the cat! ;)

dave-grey 2018-08-15 13:56

Thanks @steve-sparkes! Yep, not having time for a score screen was probably the biggest shame. I should have prioritised it over something else in retrospect. I'll definitely be adding one though. Really happy you found that risk/reward loop swinging around the singularity. Thanks so much for playing!

made it to 30-32 seconds. I doscovered the jetpack only by luck lol. i d'like to know what a good score is

Pretty solid entry for the day you worked on it! Of course as said a few times a start screen and score screen would have been nice but I understand you were in a "Big Crunch" on time which is understandable in a game jam. The mechanics were fun and I enjoyed going for the risky saves like when there is a large rock or something behind a person. One time I tried saving the UFO, but clearly it did not appreciate my efforts haha. Great work, also enjoyed the art style!

rainysolar 2018-08-17 05:11

The black hole is so powerful, I never made to rescue someone. The idea and gameplay are great. Love the graphics!

dave-grey 2018-08-17 10:52

@tontonpizza I'd like to know too! I'm making a post jam version with all the basics like a score screen, a start screen and lots more I didn't have time for in one day.

@ethan-allwood thanks! Yeah, those UFOs are Un Friendly Objects haha.

@rainysolar Thanks! Did you get the jetpack? It is a pretty powerful black hole anyway though!

shinyogre 2018-08-19 07:33

Took a bit for me to realize that I was controlling the little astronaut, and then another bit to realize that I needed to grab the purple jet pack. Work on communicating that to the player at the start of the game. Add sound effects and maybe music! To make the game more dynamic, the blackhole should maybe move around the screen, or add a camera and make the play field bigger and the jetpack more powerful. A solid game overall.

nandelind 2018-08-21 05:11

Haha, that took me a while to figure out what to do, but then it was hard to stop playing. I like how the black hole gives it a unique steering mechanic. One thing that would be nice is a way to distinguish which objects I do and don't want to run into.
